maybe the problem is the directory from which you run the program: when run from
a random directory i cannot change background either. when doing
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Full Tilt Poker
wine FullTiltPoker.exe
i _can_ change background. Could you try?

Hi, i didn't even know you could use native advapi32, and at least it's rather
tricky as fulltilt will i guess write registry entries about the background,
which , with native advapi32 is likely to fail. What i've found is that after
install, you can run full tilt once with native advapi32, and after connect
during the first run exit the program again. then run again with builtin
advapi32 and now you can connect as well. changing the background does work
right here with the above mentioned method.
could you try this, and report back please?

screenshot of gameplay
This is at a table with 7/9 places filled. The seats around mulder_fbi are
empty, but there should be a pedestal-style graphic in the gaps that is
clickable.
A background should also be loaded, instead of the plain green backdrop that is
visible. Right-clicking on the background should allow you to change it, but a
right-click does nothing.

Summary: Full Tilt Poker drawing issues

Full Tilt Poker is a popular online poker system. The installer is available at
http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/ and works very well.
To actually get the client to connect, you must use a native advapi32.dll. I
pulled mine from http://dll-files.com/. This causes a few problems during
shutdown, but I don't think it affects actual gameplay.
Unfortunately, the game is unplayable due to some rendering issues. You are
supposed to be able to change backgrounds by right-clicking on the table, but
this doesn't work. Empty seats also don't appear (to join a game, you're
supposed to click on an empty seat). It seems like the rendering gets worse as
you jump from table to table. I'll attach a screenshot.
A few versions ago (sorry, I don't remember the version number), the game was
much more playable than this.

Update: Alexandre seems to think that this can be fixed in wine, until the hacks
are removed from the X11 sources, and the X patch can be invalidated. See below.

In general yes, but in this case it's Wine that is creating the huge
bitmap, and that could easily be avoided.

>From what I understand, WinRAR creates several small bitmaps, and then wine
renders it all as 1 big bitmap, which X cannot handle due to the cause of this
report, and so therefore X returns a BadAlloc call, to prevent some sort of
over-/under-flow... Wine, according to Alexandre and some others on the list
can work around this by properly rendering the images as several small bitmaps,
instead of 1 large one.. How long it will take to get that done, I dunno, which
is why the next post to this bug by myself will be linking this bug to a metabug
tracker for the šXorg Pixmap patch issueš.

Yes I did install from an RPM. It was the one that was provided on the wine
website. I'm running it without any windows addons. I don't have windows on my
computer.
I'd prefer to use an RPM rather then a CVS version it makes it easier for me to
maintain my OS. But I'll be sure to try the RPM version of the next release when
it comes out.
I've also had problems getting dream weaver to load and the windows version of
shadergen. shadergen is an open source project made with an open source API. Its
not loading either. Maybe it is my configuration. But it certainly didn't work
out of the box.
As for downloading parts of windows on to my computer. I'd prefer not to do that
but if thats what it takes. I'll see what I can do.

When I install steam per http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=1554 I
get wine-systray running in its own window. This would be fine (ideally it
would be part of the Gnome systray), however upon minimizing steam to the
systray by clicking the X button another problem crops up: the steam icon
doesn't appear in the wine-systray, and instead the only way to effectively
click it is to carefully right-click on a one pixel tall white strip.
Perhaps a default Wine icon is needed if there's a problem with the
application's icon? Moreover, the steam icon should work...

~/.wine/fake_windows/Windows/profile/<username>/Local\ Settings/Application\

Interestingly it starts complaining when I type-in password:
[177:382] [9] CryptProtectData failed 2148073495
[177:382] [9] Checking sign in valid
And further the sign-on process complains about failing cryptography.
Is it possible that some encryption library is missing/not implemented?

No, I haven't. And I don't see any point whatsoever in doing that, because
considering that all the variations I've already tried so far haven't changed
the error nor the logfile in the least it should be plain to anyone that the
problem lies elsewhere. I'm a software developer myself, I do know how to
interpret and hunt down errors; continuing to assume the problem is my
installation at this point is way beyond clutching at straws.

Well, if you can tell me where to output stuff or send me a diff that
patches the driver I can give it a go. Best would be committing the
changes to CVS for potential future problems.

Hmm... you're running Xorg, I'm still using XF86 4.3, apart from that I
don't see any noteworthy difference. My kernel driver is a little older
(1.0-7167), but since I've had the exact same behaviour at least since
6*-versions (maybe 5*-versions, I can't say for sure when I first tried),
I really don't think that's it.

Mesa's libGL should be inactive, otherwise you'd be running in software mode.
Since I'm using Debian, my Mesa version is considerably older than yours,
though (4.1). Upgrading my system is pretty much out of the question ATM,
though; I could try installing an up-to-date Mesa from source, but I don't
think that'd work without upgrading the X-stuff as well, which basically
equals a complete system upgrade. I seriously doubt this problem is caused
by GLU anyway; doesn't look like it aborts because of tesselation gone bad
or something...

running native SndRec32.exe in Wine. Although I got lots of buffer underruns,

Yup that's a safedisc copy protection. The only way ATM you can play it is to

What does your app does what it crashes? Please be more specific. You have the
source, tell as what you call (what function(s) that lead to this crash). And
please keep one bug per, well one bug. Firebird is something different and not
related to this problem.
Also please try it with latest wine version.

You should check if wine is still running "ps ax | grep wine". And if so, kill
it "killall -9 wine-preloader". Then check again. If you see zombies then you
need to update your kernel. Also what window manager are you using?

The game Hearts of Iron 2 runs perfectly from what I can tell, with one
exception: it is very very slow.
This error fills the terminal window:
err:ddraw:Main_DirectDrawSurface_GetSurfaceDesc Impossible/Strange struct size 0.
The other possible cause of the slowness is that this application opens
thousands of little bitmap files, much more than a typical Wine application
would be expected to, so perhaps that's related.

Booting on the same system but with non-SMP kernel (2.6.14), vb3run.exe runs
fine. Only when booting with SMP kernel (2.6.13 or .14), vb3run.exe fails. So
it seems the issue is a conflict with SMP Linux and 16-bit Windows.

The same 16-bit error occurs in other programs we want to run on our terminal
server for our learning center. The other programs are niche, proprietary,
important programs, and I used vb3run.exe as an example because we could all
test it.

Hello.
I recently dug out my copy of Clockwerx, an old game (1995). I load it up in
WINE, and lo, it plays perfectly, save for one caveat - no sound. Background
music doesn't detect a MIDI device (unsurprising - no MIDI device installed),
but sound effects do not function either. The README states that it won't work
if another device is using the sound card, but even when I have all daemons
which might touch the card killed, it still fails to function.
Additionally, it gives no error about not detecting something with which to play
sound effects - it just silently fails to play. Additionally, other devices can
access the sound card and play sound perfectly during this time, so some mystery
app has not locked it.
Thanks.

I suppose you mean rm -rf / as root ;-). But just having to install all the
emulated apps would be bad enough...

I can move the configuration files or even the whole directory, that's
easy. The problem is that apps might fail for completely different
reasons then because registry entries that might have been introduced
during installation are no longer found, so there's no way to be sure
that sort of thing doesn't make matters a lot worse. Still, I did

today and the MaxPayne demo failed with the same error. So no luck there,

Done. Unfortunately the OpenGL driver isn't particularily talkative either,
but maybe those two extra lines give you further insight (I kind of doubt
it, though).
> And one wild guess: does switching a Desktop Double Buffering checkbox

Tried all combinations of desktop double buffering and desktop itself on/off
and it didn't make the slightest difference.
I'm pretty sure Wine currently uses undefined behaviour when destroying
hardware rendering contexts, so it works on some platforms and fails on others.
What I'd really like to know ATM: what kind of graphics cards and driver
versions do people use for whom the current system works?

I have a playstation (PSX) to USB converter that shows up as /dev/input/event1
This is recognised and used by zsnes, fceu, and epsxe (everything I've tried it
with) However, using wine (0.9.1 from your unofficial debian repositories) the
joystick does nothing. This is with GTA3.
I was advised to run wine with WINEDEBUG=+dinput. On doing so, Gta3 would
immediately change resolutions, and then sit for a long time. It continues to
display the desktop, but grabs the mouse.(if I move the mouse onto window
decorations at this point, it has an unhandled exception, but I suspect that's a
different bug) At some point between 30 seconds and never the game starts
pretty much as normally, but still without joystick support.
I can send you one of these trace files, they're quite large but compress very
nicely. Let me know if I can give you any more information.

Unabashed plea for another bug report:
Actually a far better answer (IMO) for the LAU community would be to
reinvigorate the Wine Jack driver as we all use Jack already and Jack's basic
nature is to be a mixer.
Currently the Jack driver is not working. I filed bug 3806 a few weeks ago:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3806
My suspicion is that this driver died when the Jack team introduced some new
Jack API stuff so possibly it wouldn't be as difficult to fix that?

This happens because with --disable-debug the function strcpyW is not defined.
I added #include "wine/unicode.h" in joystick.c to fix the problem. Of course,
there may be better solutions.
