Summary: Failure to install Dawn of War demo on Linux using Wine
0.9
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: magnus.lundborg.6955(a)student.uu.se
When trying to install the Dawn of War demo (available from
http://www.dawnofwargame.com/demo/) the installer crashes before finishing.
I am using the 0.9 version of wine (0.9.0-winehq-2 package) on a Debian Sarge
system.
I have tried changing some of the dlls which are reported as used when running
with WINEDEBUG=+loaddll, but it has not helped. Perhaps I have picked the wrong
ones. From the output it seems like ole might be a problem.
I have also tried switching graphic settings in winecfg, but to no avail.
Running with WINEDEBUG=+relay shows something about an unhandled exception
(about 5000 lines from the end). I do not know how to attack the tailed output here.
I'd be glad if someone could see if the error is reproducible.

This bug has somewhat disappeared with later Wine (20050930).
It still happens rarely, but I can't seem to invoke it at will anymore.
Stuttering sound when loading/saving is still there, but it won't make Wine die
anymore.
I currently have no skills for debugging nor time to acquire them :(

Summary: WGL_COLOR_BITS_ARB handled with improper values
Product: Wine
Version: 20050930
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chris.kcat(a)gmail.com
Looking in dlls/opengl32/wgl_ext.c, it appears WGL_COLOR_BITS_ARB is
implemented using GLX_BUFFER_SIZE. Unfortunately, accordind to
developer.3dlabs.com:
WGL_COLOR_BITS_ARB - Specifies the number of color bitplanes in each color
buffer. For RGBA pixel types, it is the size of the color buffer, *excluding
the alpha bitplanes*, For color-index pixels, it is the size of the color
index buffer.
GLX_BUFFER_SIZE - Number of bits per color buffer. For RGBA visuals,
GLX_BUFFER_SIZE is the sum of GLX_RED_SIZE, GLX_GREEN_SIZE, GLX_BLUE_SIZE,
*and GLX_ALPHA_SIZE*. For color index visuals, GLX_BUFFER_SIZE is the size of
the color indexes.
This is causing WGL_COLOR_BITS_ARB to handle the alpha value where it
shouldn't be.

For some of the controls like Animation.exe, wine is working better than windows
one. Our Commctl version is 5.80 but on win xp its 5.82. Anyone please test the

Still the same problem with the very latest, but here is a strange thing.
When run from a "windows" executable under KDE, by setting up a mime type,
i.e. by clicking on the .exe name, and selecting as start this program with
wine, then sometimes it works. But, when attempting to run a program from the
command line, the same error occurs, even on a program that runs by clicking
on it.

Okay, so I've tracked down the cause of this bug. The functions
GetMonitorInfoA() and GetMonitorInfoW(), along with the display name, were
changed in cvs on 2005-09-28 03:17:13.
Using the older definition of the function, the graphics are invisible under
Windows 2000 emulation but visible under Windows '98 emulation. This
corresponds to a display name of "DISPLAY".
Using the newer definition of the function, the graphics are invisible under
Windows '98 emulation but visible under Windows 2000 emulation. This
corresponds to a display name of "\.\DISPLAY1".
Absolutely no clue why this is bad, but if I switch the display names back and
forth, I can recreate the bug in either emulation mode. I'm new to wine, so if
there's a run-time method of determining which emulation mode is happening, the
functions could be modified to pick the right display name. Or if theres
something more fundamental going on that I don't understand, please enlighten me.

I'm not a c expert or a linux expert. So, I may have the explanation/wording wrong.
The kernel headers that wine uses during the compile are in
"/usr/include/linux/" instead of possibly the
"/lib/modules/version/build/include/linux" directory, which causes the HAVE_V4L2
check to possibly be inaccurate as it is defined in "/usr/include/linux/videodev.h".
http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2005/05/0176.html
>From what I understand the kernel headers in "/usr/include/linux" should be the
ones that glibc were compiled against, even if the running kernel is different.
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0007.3/0587.html
In short I would assume that the kernel headers should be taken from the
"/lib/modules/version/build/include/linux" directory using the version of the
running kernel to decide which headers to use.
Perhaps only certain parts if not all should be compiled against the running
kernel headers while others using the ones that Glibc were compiled against?
make failed orginally for me because of this when compiling avicap32_main.o

Summary: Colour palette goes nuts when Input fields displayed.

App: Titanic Explorer
It an educational CDROM produced using Macromedia Director and making heavy use
of Quicktime.
Had to disable ddraw within Quicktime as there was a repainting issue. It now
works fine until I try a search.
When the search dialog opens the white backgound of the 'input field' flickers
to blask and then back to white. When I start to enter a search the backgound of
the field goes black again. Then the colour of the application go screwy. blacks
become white text blue and so on. Also masks that give the front-end shape (like
rounded corners) appear so the rounded corner now appears in a white box. This
behavior continues even after the search dialog has been closed.
To give you an idea of the colour shift. If I don't enter a search criteria the
app displays a 'Windows' dialog. Instead of the light gray with black text and
blue title bar, I get a dark grey background white text and a yellow title bar.
When all this happens I don't see any errors in the console. What I do get in
the console is at start up (see below);

This just came to my mind: AFAIK, Wine has basic support for device drivers
these days, for SafeDisk and similar copy protection schemes? So, Wine can
support device drivers to a certain extent? I assume the element5 VxD is
somewhat similar to SafeDisk drivers, as there's no real/ special hardware
involved, so maybe it would work with Wine?
The second thing is - are regular services really standard executables? The
one from element5 ESD is. And it's possible to start it with Wine - so, maybe
it isn't a real service? If that's the case, it might work, if ZBrush would
even start up...

Some applications ignore the "COMSPEC" environment variable and expect the
command prompt to be located at '%WinDir%/COMMAND.COM'. For these applications
to work properly, there needs to be a symlink called 'command.com.so' pointing
to 'wcmd.exe'.
Occasionally, applications will look for "RUNDLL.EXE" when calling functions in
16-bit DLLs. For these applications to work properly, there needs to be a
symlink called 'rundll.exe' pointing to 'rundll32.exe'. Wine's RUNDLL32 does
support calling 16-bit libraries by the way: I checked.

The truth is that most applications do not mind the SETUPX_CreateStandardLDDs
function not being implemented although this can result in files being installed
incorrectly in %WinSysDir%/Unknown when one of the standard paths is not found.
The freeze when attempting to run Active Setup is actually caused by the native
ADVPACK.DLL included in the package not initializing correctly. The solution is
to launch the Active Setup Wizard executable with Wine's ADVPACK.DLL set to
builtin. If it is contained within a self-extracting package, you can find it at
<Wine's temporary files dir>/IXP[000-999].TMP with the highest number (the
[000-999] part).

Are you saying that Wine now supports the LNK/PIF file formats used for
shortcuts? I only reported this as a bug because I couldn't load the native
EXPLORER.EXE in Wine 20050419 (but that was the version used in NT4 SP6 -
probably too advanced...). Are there any 3rd party shells that support the
LNK/PIF file formats (which is where applications get their path info from, of
course) and are usable in Wine? Does Wine now run EXPLORER.EXE or have its own
implementation? Can Wine now launch LNK/PIF files directly as if they were
executables? Does WINEFILE now support launching LNK/PIF files?

This is defiantly a bug outside of DirectX, so far I've narrowed the fault
down to between 2005-08-30 and 2005-06-13, using the current version of
Direct3D and the dated version of the rest of wine.

take a look at this test case ?

Hey, it works after I 'rm -rf ~/.wine'.
And it stops working if I run 'regedit all_wine_old.reg'.
Now I going to compare my old registry (with DCOM, MSI, IE6, ACAD 2004
installed) to the new (clean) registry and to find offending part from my old
registry.

very strange. this would mean krnl386.exe.so is not linked in /usr/lib/wine
can you cross check that?

Nothing is changed for these problems.
Can someone assign to bug resolution task list before wine v1.0 will be released?

Summary: No windows redraw or repaint in Adobe Photoshop Deluxe
Home Edition
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: karllinuxtest.relton(a)ntlworld.com
Using a very old version of an Adobe Photoshop Deluxe Home Edition (version
3.1), I have a regression in wine between the December 2004 release
and current releases (at least from March 2005 onwards).
Previously it was usable, but now none of the applications
display area redraws or repaints properly. I guess this is related to
the window management re-write that started earlier in 2005.
An example sympton is if I iconise the app completely (using
gnome-metacity window decoration button), and then un-iconise it,
nothing gets redrawn. Similarly if I move another app window
over this app, and then bring this app to the front again it
does not redraw (leaving an image of the other app).
In fact, when the app opens, the app window contents are incorrect
from the outset because things are not redrawn properly.
I realise this is specific to this app, so if you can give me some
guidance on what debug channels to turn on, I will try and produce
some trace logs to attach.
The window management stuff has definitely gone adrift in the
case of this app.

This is log for running the winelib executable. I disabled imm32.dll just to
make log shorter. I believe this change makes no difference regarding the
crash.
