How did you get your Wine binary files? My Wine throws me lots of lines
$ export WINEDEBUG=+file,+module; src/wine-cvs/wine/wine uninstaller 2>&1 | wc -l

$ export WINEDEBUG=+file,+module; /usr/src/wine-cvs/wine/wine --version 2>&1 | wc -l

May your Wine be compiled after configuring it to disable trace messages?

Rich, then maybe set WINEDEBUG=+file,+module env-variable. This should give
more output about Wine operation on FF dlls. Even +module may suffice but I am
not sure.

I was able to make more progress by installing MS's msi handler. instmsia.exe
is included on my Disk 1. I am using 20050930. I started by rm -rf .wine/.
Then I used winecfg to set wine into desktop-window mode and Windows 98 mode. I
ran instmsia.exe, which failed but left its temporary files in
windows/Installer/InstMsi0/ (as described here:
http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2005/07/0298.html). I copied those
files into windows/system/.
I then ran Setup.exe, which for me must be triggered from "Disk 0". I used the
same disk-relinking technique described above to do the disk changes. The
install completed without errors and popped up the Unlock Wizard. I typed in my
registration key, at which point the Unlock Wizard made the following proclamation:
There is a problem with the UnlockWizard Registry.
Please re-install UnlockWizard and start it again.
There were no errors shown on the command line.
Since the Unlock Wizard was left sitting in the c:\Garmin directory I tried
running it again, with the same result.
So at this point, wine is vaguely capable of installing MapSource, but not of
unlocking it.

I have the Garmin version of NavTech MapSource v6 included with the Garmin iQue
3200. This version has 3 CDs. I was able to make some progress by copying two
of them to the hard drive (recursively, not as images, into two separate
folders) and leaving the third on /mnt/cdrom. Each time the program asked me to
change disks I simply deleted my ~/.wine/dosdevices/d: link and relinked it to
the next disk's location.
I still didn't get very far. If I run the Setup.exe at the root of Garmin's
setup CD (which I call "disk 0") I am presented with a prettified menu system
that tries to make me install Palm Desktop but fails. That is presumably
orthogonal to this bug.
If I instead go to MapSource Disk 1 and run setup.exe I am able to make some
progress. The installer runs, copying dozens or hundreds of .img files into my
c:\Garmin\CSNA6\ directory. It stalls in the middle at which point I changed
the symlink to the second cd and it resumed progress.
The installshied installer fails at the end of its installation progress bar,
without having installed any useful executables (only tgr_trim.exe, whose
function is unknown to me). I suspect that the installer tries to run a .msi
installer to install the real software, but when I try to use it with msiexec it
fails:
~/apps/mapsource/disk1 $ wine msiexec /i MapSource\ -\ City\ Select\ North\
America\ v6.msi
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted due to error (1603)
So currently I have just over 2 GB of files with names like 00128007.img (and a
few like CSNA6_mdr.img) and no idea what to do with them.

Excuse my ignorance, but would it make things easier to create a DIB engine
based on EVAS? I mean, EVAS is exceptionally fast, supports hardware
accelleration, the license is compatible with Wine, and it's still network
transparent AFAIK (Enlightenment DR17 should be network transparent?).
BTW, I'd suggest to set the target to 1.0, if that's not too optimistic?

Ok, so it's a false alarm then? Please next time _update_ your cvs and recompile
before claming that you have cvs!
Closing this time for good (in 24 hours). If anyone has any objections please
respond now.
As far as themes go, there are still some problems that wine has in A <-> W
message translations. If you don't have theme enabled those bugs should not matter.
raid517 any comments? Still doesn't work? Have you tried to remove ~/.wine dir,
disable theme and try again? And please make sure that you do have latest cvs!

messages:

... and nothing happens in Picasa (stays operational otherwise), but once it's
closed it tries to open the embedded window (a section of the screen becomes
frozen, as if a window were there), and a security warning comes up ("you have
requested an encrypted page... etc"), as well as a "fatal error" that is only
displayed on the KDE taskbar (no window).
Once the first warning is dimissed, part of the "frozen window" actually loads
up the embedded URL (as if the frozen window were the now-closed Picasa, and the
browser were loading on the main part of its window, leaving space for toolbars
around it), but that whole area of the screen (top left) remains
unclickable/unfocusable until I right-click on the "fatal error" message on the
taskbar and hit "close", which removes the frozen window altogether. This also
triggers the debugger output.
I have Internet Explorer 6.1 installed on Wine, as well as the Mozilla ActiveX
Control v1.7.7 (with required msvcp60.dll file).

Checking with the current CVS HEAD.
1. Better -- new values are still there when I reopen the dialog, but still
don't get saved to the registry when I chose "() Retain these settings for
later". (Restarting reverts to the old values).
2. I see my description wasn't very precise. Here's what I did:
1. wineconsole --backend=user Far.exe
2. changed to buffer height=30, window height=25 (with the Properties
dialog). A Windows scrollbar appears on the right side of the window.
3. enlarged the window with the mouse, to make it >30 lines high
4. using the scrollbar's thumb, scrolled up with the mouse to the top
5. started typing -- this made the FAR display and the scrollbar jump back
to its original position (the one before step 4), and a dead copy of the FAR
window displayed at the bottom. The latter appears to be a refresh problem as
it disappears when I force redraw of the window.
I guess the scrollbar is not handled properly, i.e. it should not jump back.
Just noticed another thing: if I do 1-4, then force redraw of the window, the
lower part is not refreshed.
Hope this helps.

regarding the wierd error message: appearently the game takes the russian
messages. dunno why ...
if you remove all 1_00c_Texts_demo_*.gro files from the game directory, you will
get the error messages in english.(not that it helps much)
the good thing is that then the log file of the game is also in english.
That reveals that the game is looking for opengl32.dll. After copying the file
from my window installation, I get a bit further.
This time the game complains it doesnt find a display mode which supports
hardware acceleration.
I attach the log file of the Game.
Maybe somebody has an idea which WINEDBG settings could give any further clue?

ALSA's OSS emulation works far better (when wineserver is reniced to 19).

Hi, I'm sorry to say that this bug is back - as of CVS 23/10/2005. (I downloaded
using the European CVS server if this info is any use). 60% of my installs
(which should normally pass without a hitch) are failing with the same error
message that 'the directory is not valid.'
Is this patch actually been committed to CVS yet? Because if so I'm afraid it is
still a problem and has not been fully resolved.

only happens for me when I move my mouse pointer over an X11 window from the remote system; the
application runs normally when I keep my mouse elsewhere. Additionally, X11 applications run on my
local Mac work normally.
I run 20050930 wine built from source.

This DLL exists, and is, in fact, a native DLL which is in the program folder.
The only bug I could find vaguely similar to this involved Max Payne and
DirectX, and I doubt that is relevant here.

Wine regedit, as of wine 20050930, does not implement the Find functionality.
This severely limits the usefulness of it - in fact, cat and grep are more
useful than wine's regedit replacement in this regard.

Summary: toolbar button icons shifted
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mfranz(a)aon.at
Ever since "Austrian Map v1.0" (by Chrysler Daimler Aerospace) works in Wine,
I observe that icons on toolbar buttons are shifted, and thus cut off, or
spanning two buttons. I verified this bug in yesterday's CVS/HEAD.
Screenshot: http://members.aon.at/mfranz/toolbar_buttons.png [8 kB]
I don't have other Windows applications installed, but when I still had, those
had correct toolbar buttons.
Linux 2.6.13.4/i386, gcc 3.3.4 (SuSE 9.2), libc 2.3.3
(The bug didn't seem to be in the bug database. The closest was
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3575, but I don't really understand
what the reporter actually means. "incorrect wrapping"? "toolbar control"?)

Could you attach WINEDEBUG=+cursor log? I think I see what is going on here. The
only place that it devides something is here:
if (!(image = XCreateImage( display, visual,
ZPixmap, 0, (char *)(ptr + 1), ptr->nWidth,
* 2, 16, ptr->nWidthBytes/ptr->bBitsPerPixel)))
So the game creates a cursor with 0 BPP!
What's interesting it works for me, but all cursors a ugly (the cursor mask is
visible and is offset to the bottom of the cursor).

Summary: pif's using batch files and autoexec.bat

Component: wine-dos
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

I have not seen this one problem listed and it may be a 1.0 target.
Legacy installers modify autoexec.bat to add the install directory to the path
and some set's. After the installer installs the program will not run as it's
bin directory is not in the path.
If windows type is set to 95 or less in winecfg then autoexec should be
processed before running the program.
I also have programs which uses a pif to run a batch file. The batch in a pif is
disabled/stubbed. I plan to look at filling it that feature when I get some time.

Summary: dialog: no wm_paint message at first draw
Product: Wine
Version: 20050930
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: T.Bonner(a)freesurf.ch
In a program I want to create a (modal) dialog (like in petzold), but
additionaly I've inserted in the message handler code to draw something when
WM_PAINT is received (besides other things defined in the resource file). with
wine this wm_paint code isn't called at the very first startup of the dialog,
but afterwards (e.g. at repainting) all is ok.
e.g.
(handle messages of the given dialog)
case WM_PAINT:
hdc = GetDC (hDlg);
/* draw something */
ReleaseDC (hDlg, hdc);
break;

Wine does not have "explorer". So that won't work. It would be nice to
communicate with browsers from different window managers, but that again is not
wine wine will do in the near future.

I think it's a won't fix as this requires interuction with window manager, that
wine does not do and will not do in the future.

Copying files from a Windows installation is *not* a fix.
Wine needs to be able to handle this by itself
(perhaps by telling the user they need to run
the official installer for some microsoft redistributable).

Summary: MDAC 2.7 installs, but its DLLs never get unpacked
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/downloads
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
A lot of VB apps use MDAC (http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/mdac/downloads/).
They tend to include mdac_typ.exe, the mdac installer, and run it, but
unfortunately,
Wine doesn't seem to run it properly. (I'm testing using mdac 2.7 sp1, fwiw.)
First, the MDAC installer refuses to run unless the registry key for IE6
is present. (OK, that's easy to work around... if you're a programmer.
It probably ought to be a winecfg pulldown.)
Second, even if the MDAC installer runs, all it does is install a bunch of
directories under c:\windows\RegisteredPackages. The DLLs needed
by the VB app are locked up in .cab's in those directories.
In the app I'm trying to install, the installer then fails with
err:module:import_dll Library MSDART.DLL (which is needed by
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\msadox.dll") not found
Something, somehow, is supposed to be triggering an unpack, but it's not happening.
(See http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/delivery/download/download_node_entry.asp
for a discusion of how the unpacking is supposed to go on Windows.)
FWIW, here are the fixme's I see when I run the mdac 2.7sp1 installer

err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 712 bytes
is a common bug I encounter with Atmel AvrStudio. For me its caused by
CopyImage() in dlls/user/cursoricon.c. I sent several approches to keep wine
from crashing, but none was applied. Could you try my patch
" CopyImage for IMAGE_BITMAP still not right, next Try"sent to wine-patches 20
Sep 2005 and report?
Thanks
