Summary: Under Wine, I run a program called Editplus. When
uploading a file directly to a server via FTP, it always
gets stuck on 100% complete. The file has been
transfered, but the status bar gets stuck at 100%.
Product: Wine
Version: 20050524
Platform: Other
URL: http://verted.net/misc/editplusbug.png
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rthomas(a)verted.net
I appologise if this is bad. It's my first bug report.
As you can see, the URL is a screenshot of a bug that occurs whilst running
Editplus under Wine. What happens is, Editplus has a feature which allows you to
save a file, and it uploads directly to a server via FTP. A status window opens,
to show the percent of the file that has been uploaded. The problem is with
large files, it always gets stuck on 100%. The upload is successful, but the
status window stays on 100%. In order to get rid of it, you have to click
'cancel' every time. The uploaded file is fine, but it's just very annoying,
having to wait around, and click cancel when it gets to 100%, every time you
upload a file.
Thanks,
-Russell Thomas

Code is in cvs. Note the last update relates to as trap attaching a file, but
thats completely unrelated to this bug. Please raise new issues in a new bug
report to avoid the reports getting confusing.

Patch to enable this disabling of the dimput mouse_hack via the registry
patch is against wine/dlls/dinput, to apply the patch move into that directory
and type patch -i mousehack.diff
The registry entry

This bug is here to track progress in getting half life 2 to run
on CVS wine - it does not track Oliver Stieber's tree - I'm interested
to see what can run with the patches currently committed.
Msi status is tracked in a separate bug.
Status Fri Jul 1, CVS:
- downloaded and installed steam
- patched steam for keyboard focus bug
- downloaded HL2 over the web (3G)
- it shows the Valve intro screen, and dies immediately after.

I have just copied over all the dll overrides into the user reg from the
winetools utilities and have reformated them by exporting the registry (using
regedit) and saving the relevent dlloverrides section then importing them to a
fresh .wine directory.
When attempting to use winecfg to view these overrides it instantly crashes into
a winedbg session reporting 'buffer overflows' or some such.
By adding the overrides using the winecfg interface you can reach the same error
after about 10-12 dlls.

I don't see why I should be cutting and pasting the password into
Steam in the first place. The problem is that:
1) Steam runs on top of everything
2) Steam runs on all workspaces
3) Steam never has keyboard focus.
Changing to Desktop mode has no effect.
I'm not sure what you mean by "selecting icon from tray" -
there is no icon...or tray. I haven't logged in yet

So, I re-downloaded the Steam installer, and the update passed
successfully. I am not quite sure how to get it back to a state
where it breaks for testing..
Will leave bug open for now..
However, Steam presents other problems, for which
I'll file a separate bug - it runs on all workspaces, on
top of everything, and has no keyboard focus
(I can't type the password).

Summary: Wine and DMIX (ALSA 1.0.8 and 1.0.9) broken again -

Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Component: wine-multimedia

ReportedBy: leon_fraitak(a)mail.ru
After setting up Wine to work with DMIX (used an undocumented config option in
[ALSA] section I had to find out by looking at the source code!)
I encounter choppy sound with Wine whenever the CPU load is higher than
10-15%, and when it's 20% the sound stops playing at all.
This may be also an ALSA bug, because without ~/.asoundrc Wine produces sound
full of crackles (DMIX is being used then too)
Here's my asoundrc:
pcm.my_card {
type hw
card 0
mmap_emulation true
}
pcm.dmixed {
type dmix
# any unique number here
ipc_key 313
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
# these settings may require tweaking for different sound
# cards; this is for the Powerbook's built-in snd-powermac
# probably not required at all for well-behaved cards...
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 16384
# mentioning rate fixes wrong speed/pitch in native ALSA stuff
rate 44100
}
}
ctl.asymed {
type hw
card 0
}
pcm.dsnooped {
type dsnoop
ipc_key 2048
slave {
pcm "my_card"
# rate 48000
# period_size 128
}
}
pcm.asymed {
type asym
playback.pcm "dmixed"
capture.pcm "dsnooped"
}
pcm.pasymed {
type plug
slave.pcm "asymed"
}
pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm "asymed"
}
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "asymed" #asymed
}
ctl.!default {
type hw
card 0
}
Is that because Wine uses mmap? It is currently incompatible with DMIX.

So, I did run memtest86, and there are 0.0 errors.
I've had memory problems before, and this is not
characteristic of what happens - bad memory does not cause
random crashes in wine - it causes random crashes _everywhere_,
and makes your system unusable.
===============
I've uninstalled wolfenstein, and I've erased the large logs
since they took way too much space, but I've kept the small
ones on http://ivan.ivg2.net/wolf/ if there's still interest
in fixing this.
I'm not having any luck with HL2, as the installer still doesn't
work, and now steam is also broken (freezes at 27% update). So,
if you really need more logs I can reinstall.

I've been working on getting WeatherScope running under wine. (Freely
available at:
http://sdg.ocs.ou.edu/builds/final/win/WeatherScope/WeatherScope-1.3.exe)
It's becoming quite usable, but there is an issue with the mouse I'm trying to
shake out. In the program, when you right click on an object and bring up a
context menu, after selecting an item from the menu, the object behaves as
though you are holding the left mouse button and dragging the object around.
This is especially annoying if you select the properties item from the menu.
This pops up a dialog box, but you can't interact with the dialog box because
the object still essentially has control of the mouse. Double clicking the
object, which also brings up the properties box, does not produce this
problematic behavior.
Looking at a +msg, +message log, it looks like X sends a right button up
message, but this message is never dispatched. I'm guessing this is because a
popup menu is engaged. My guess is that since the button up is never sent, the
program thinks the user is dragging the object. If I knew where to look it in
the Wine source, I'd try to see why the message isn't dispatched. At any rate,
this behavior is not observed on Windows.

Thanks, Tony, for the URL.
WRT the app db page, fonts are no longer a problem since it ships with sb.ttf;
just bung that where xfs can see it (call me lazy, I use drakfont --install)
and Bob's your uncle.
Since nobody seems to have any ideas on this one, the client is minded to
tweak a version of PuTTY to cope with the few special features required.
