AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: zarquon(a)t-online.de
There are input problems in "No one lives forever". The latest build (20050211)
has working mouselook at last, but mouse buttons and keys are still broken (e.g.
W and S appear to be mapped to the shift keys). While the game's running, I'm
getting lots of these errors on the console:
"fixme:keyboard:X11DRV_GetKeyNameText (01000000,0x4063f968,256): unsupported
key, vkey=0000, ansi=0000" (with varying key codes) and the occasional
"fixme:dinput:IDirectInputDevice2AImpl_GetProperty
(this=0x403783c0,<guid-0x0001>,0x4063f09c): stub!". Cursor-keys and escape work,
though. This appears to be the only remaining obstacle in playing the game,
rendering and sound are just fine.

ReportedBy: zarquon(a)t-online.de
After changing fundamental video settings (mode, depth, ...) in Quake3-based
games, Wine fails to reinit OpenGL and aborts with the log entry "...calling
LoadLibrary( 'c:\windows\system\opengl32.dll' ): failed" (I can provide the full
log, including the first attempt to load opengl32.dll, which succeeds). This
happens in all recent Wine versions I tried, in both "Alice" and "Soldier of
Fortune II". In case this is a card-specific bug: I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce4
Ti4400 and the 66.29 drivers (but 53.36 had the same problem); system is Debian
Woody with 2.4.21 kernel and a KT333 motherboard.

approx. at the middle of December 2004. It was already there around December 23,

with .../D2004.xx.xx.22.00.00.
about 20041119 (I use it as a "working" binaries) okay, seemingly
20041125 shows menubar, no main window at all, stops (hangs) at that
20041129 okay, seemingly
20051202 okay, seemingly
20041207 shows main window, but bails out on not "seeing" notes.ini in PATH
20041208 same

I am not sure, if this could be related issue, but have you tried to managed mode:

for me this is the only way for a mouse input to work. BTW, then keyboard input
stops working, but this is another story. am just suggesting.

D'oh... Did some more investigation prior to drafting email...
The problem here was you havent run wineprefixcreate. Once this is done, that
key appears and the install gets to the first panel (which I dont understand
the language of but looks about right!). With wine as I had it installed, the
application traps because it doesnt expect this key missing - it is there on
all windows systems by default.
Please confirm how you installed wine - was it an RPM or via CVS. If cvs
please confirm running this resolves the problem, and we can close this bug off

When I try to launch a win32 executable (ie. notepad.exe) with wine it works
quite perfect except with the one user I log in with.
In other words. root worksfine, if I create a new user it does too, but if i
start notepad using the existing useraccount 'xeroc' it crashes with

I already deleted the config files .. same error .. it's not due to KDE .. I
also checked that up. No soundserver causing the error.

Note: Also, 20050211 release is affected .
The problem is in the function _get_tmp_fn(FILE **) ( in

static LPSTR _get_tmp_fn(FILE **f)
{
LPSTR ret;
int tmp_fd,count;

if (errno != EEXIST) {
ERR("Unexpected error while open() call: %s\n",strerror(errno));
free(ret);
*f = NULL;
return NULL;
}
}
---------------------------------------------------
When regxxxxxx.tmp is created by open() 0666 mode is used.
Since that default umask = 022 :
(0666) &~ (022) = 0644 = -rw-r--r--
Solution:
Use .. open(ret,O_CREAT | O_EXCL | O_WRONLY,0600))..

When an application is runned, wine makes a dump of windows registry in /tmp
with name regxxxxxxx.tmp .
regxxxxxxx.tmp is created with -rw-r--r-- permissions.
This could represent a security problem in a multi-user environment.
Indeed, any local user could access to windows registry's dump and get sensitive
information, like passwords or other private data.
A local attacker could use a script to check every X seconds the presence of a
regxxxxxxx.tmp and copy it in his home directory for a successive analysis.
I have made some tests to reproduce this bug, running several applications and i
noted that it's been possibile get information in

OK, so apparently this is related to the kernel version. 2.6.8 works, 2.6.10
doesn't - both with the same version of nvidia driver (Debian 1.0.6629+1-1).
I haven't been able to find any other GL program that will trigger this - only
wine - so I'm a little hesitant to just start blaming an nvidia driver bug. I
just tested with wine 20040813 too and its exactly the same.

More comments...
1. Run the install - It will say its going to install the msad parts
- Let it reboot at the end of install or run wineboot
Now.... The install DOESNT install the msad parts, no idea why but a relay
trace doesnt show even an attempt to install it so I wonder if thats a problem
with the s/w an dnot wine?
Anyway you can manually do some of the install
Copy from a windows machine the msado15.dll and msdart.dll, and run
wine regsvr32 msado15.dll
Copy from a windows machine the oledb32.dll and oledb32r.dll, and run
wine regsvr32 oledb32.dll
This gets things further but it still doesnt start :-( I suspect if you
install the MS Data access components seperately you may get further but thats
a guess
Sorry about the rambling, but it might help someone pick up from this

screenshot of the reactos regedit.exe running in Windows NT4 SP1
Bummer, looks like we poor ReactOS guys have to fix it ourselves. I consider
our regedit as a real life application and I'm aware of the fact that it works
fine from at least NT4 SP1 on (can't test without any SPs as my copy of NT4
comes with it). I've verified it on NT4, 2000 and XP.
This is definitely a Win9x thingy and as ReactOS aims to be a NT compatible OS
this is unfortunately inacceptable. Our regedit should not be fixed as it works
correctly on the NT platform, the software wasn't designed for 9x originally
after all.
If it doesn't get fixed in WINE there's no choice but it one day has to be
fixed in ReactOS, even though I would appreciate more code sharing.
I hereby request to re-open this bug.

UsePrimary is the only clipboard specific parameter.
UsePrimary tells wine to grab the primary selection in addition to the clipboard
selection when ever it takes ownership of the clipboard. This allows you to
paste text into applications that don't support clipboard selection, for example
xterm.
When pasting data from a non-Wine application, it indicates that it should first
fetch data from the primary selection if available, otherwise read the clipboard
selection. Again, this allows you to paste data from non-Wine applications that
don't support clipboard selection.

I checked the syscall.h file which ended up pointing to bits/syscall.h after a
few includes and found SYS_rt_sigaction but no SYS_sigaction. Is SYS_sigaction
some system call that recently got removed from the linux kernel for some
reason?
I'm using a vanilla linux-2.6.10 kernel, glibc 2.3.4.20041102 and gcc 3.4.3-r1
all built using gentoo ebuilds.

I am having the same problem with installing Rise of Nations Gold Edition. The
keyboard input is being sent to the console. I did find a workaround though to
allow me to at least get past entering in my product key. Type the product key
into a text editor and then copy and paste it into the product key field using
your mouse.

Reproduced in Wine 20050111, from CVS, with download as of 2/8/2005. Jem's
analysis is correct. Some additional comments:
1) ES_NUMBER is defined in include/winuser.h, line 639, as an edit control style.
2) ES_DISABLENOSCROLL is defined ins include/richedit.h, line 172, as a _rich_
edit control style.
3) ES_NUMBER is processed in dlls/user/edit.c (for the edit control). Look at
lines 3700-3702.
4) ES_DISABLENOSCROLL is _never_ processed.
In Windows, the rich edit control is subclassed from the edit control. The
designers of the rich edit control did not need to use the ES_NUMBER style bit
because the rich edit control never needed it. So they used it as
ES_DISABLENOSCROLL, overriding the ES_NUMBER setting.
The patch is more complicated than simply determining whether the control is an
edit or a rich edit control. Suppose a newly subclassed control (say,
RichEdit_Numeric) is derived from the edit control. The ES_NUMBER bit might be
used in that case. We need some general mechanism for handling subclassed
controls like this.

I've been playing Dungeon Keeper II quite happily for a while now, but for the
last month or so every time I start the game it crashes immediately on the first
move of the mouse. I had this once a while ago and didn't know what caused it -
I believe a reboot fixed it, so put it down to nvidia hardware wierdness. This
time however, nothing I can do can make it go away and it is 100% reproducible -
always with the same stacktrace. As far as I can tell, other (non-wine) GL
programs run fine.
By putting in some TRACE statements, I've tracked it down to the
glReadBuffer(GL_FRONT) call in d3ddevice_lock_update() (d3ddevice/main.c:~3670),
called from This->lock_update(...) in Main_DirectDrawSurface_Lock()
(dsurface/main.c:1124). Unfortunately I don't know anything about GL (or D3D)
so don't know how to debug this further.
A full WINEDEBUG=+ddraw log is available at http://www.inodes.org/~gus/dk2.log
The "made it to __LINE__" lines are my extra debugging traces.

That's interesting, same behaviour under 20050111. That is, the richedit with
style ES_DISABLENOSCROLL only accepts numbers, so it is not completely disabled.
I think there has been an error in interpreting the win32 API! The style
ES_DISABLENOSCROLL as per MSDN "Disables scroll bars instead of hiding them when
they are not needed." And that's what I observe on an MS Windows system.
The #define value for ES_DISABLENOSCROLL is the same value for ES_NUMBER, which
is confusing. However the observed behaviour on MS Windows systems is that a
richedit control with this style shows a disabled scroll bar rather than hiding
it. It does not, as Wine has interpreted, only accept numerical input!
So from what I can see, Wine's richedit currently misinterprets ES_NUMBER as
meaning the control should only accept numbers, whereas on MS Windows systems
this style (== ES_DISABLENOSCROLL) means to show a disabled scrollbar, without
caring about only-numerical input.

There is a workaround for this bug. If you edit the .wine/config file like this:
; Use the Render extension to render client side fonts (default "Y")
"ClientSideWithRender" = "N"
; Fallback on X core requests to render client side fonts (default "Y")
"ClientSideWithCore" = "N"
; Set both of the previous two to "N" in order to force X11 server side fonts
You should be able to see the text. It's very small and hard to read, but it's
there. You can download and install fonts and tweak to try and get better
performance (see this thread at boards.wizards.com:
http://boards.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=369379 )

Hi this is my first bug report on wine. I have been trying to get a favorite
game of mine working under wine for quite some time now. The game is called
turborisk and I thought it would be no problem since it seemed like pretty
simple application but it exhibits some strange behavior. Upon starting up the
game everything is normal menu's work and everything is drawn correctly. Then
when you start up a new game the processor utilization of the process goes to
100% and mouse clicks in the map area don't seem to work, even though the menu
still works fine, and in fact when the menu is active the processor calms back
down to normal. Anyway I've tried playing around with the app defaults and
dxgrab and such but no luck so I figure this program is trying to use some
unimplemented feature but no fixme message is output to the terminal. Anyway
thought this might be of some interest.

the address "http://appdb.winehq.org/" gives alternatively lots of red-colored
SQL error messages, or a weird-looking page (all columns blank except the last,
which says either application name or something like "screenshot").
Based on error message I'd say that it's in the "AND id = AND" part - you might
want to specify the ID :).
Example of SQL error (there's lots of these in red boxes, one under another):
Database Error!
Query: SELECT appData.*, appVersion.appId AS appId FROM appData, appVersion
WHERE appData.versionId = appVersion.versionId AND id = AND type = 'image'
You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your
MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'AND type = 'image'' at line 5

This is not solution. I was try compile wine with this change and with all
mesa.c from older version 20041019. Wine works in both cases, but colors are
wrong without any changes.

I have the same in FVWM 2.5.10 and Wine 20050111.
It is ok if I change Desktop (I have 4 Desktops).
But it appears if I change _virtual_page_ (I have 3x3 size of Virtual desktop).
In others window managers this bug don't appear because there are usually Virtual desktop have size
of the physical screen.

Summary: in wcmd.exe, "if exist %directory%" always false
Product: Wine
Version: 20050111
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jpabecasis(a)zmail.pt
"if exist %what%" works correctly for files but always returns false for
directories.
This is to reopen Bug 1564 <http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1564>
The issue persists in version 20050111. A patch was attached to bug 1564, but it
seems that it was never applied to CVS.
