All thes programs have dlls that are not in the Windows/System directory, for
example, with WP for win, loading stops with the error message:
Could not load 'SHWINB20.DLL' required by 'WPWIN60', error=2
This dll is to be found in d:\wpc20. The Wp for win binaries are installed on
drive D: This drive is correctly configured because other programs such as
Agent run without complaint.

Try converting the .a file into a .so file, iirc something like
gcc -shared -o libXv.so.1 libXv.a
should do the trick.

AFAIK this issue is somewhat known.. IIRC It is mainly due to the fact that we
do not have the quartz libraries in the wine tree anymore. The problem is
basically that when you open the file in windows, it loads the embedded player
and that player uses another player to actually play the movie (actually it's
codec). If the codec is not installed, the movie will not play. That is the
same case here.. More than likely, the codec needed is included with windows
media player, and that isnt installed. I must note though that even with media
player installed, there is no guarantee that the video will play, due to the
fact that the codec's are usually (i think) similar to drivers in the sense
that they are system wide. It's kinda like winhelp.. It uses Internet
Explorer to browse the web even though you don't see ie, it is what's being
used.
Of course I could be wrong about everything I just said, in which case you can
just ignore everything.

ReportedBy: spyderusa11(a)hotmail.com
Some programs, it seems to be the ones that use DirectSound, will play sound
fine, but will kill sound for the rest of the system once started. Other Windows
apps that use other methods of audio play fine but don't have any problems. For
example, I can run a game that uses DirectSound and exit it, and the sound will
not work in any other application (Linux or Windows). However, if I run the same
program, or another one that uses DirectSound, the sound still works there but
only there. Running /sbin/fuser /dev/dsp says nothing is using the device and ps
ax reports nothing out of the ordinary (including wine or wineserver) continuing
to run. If I try to play an MP3 in XMMS, the position indicator fast forwards
through the file with no speaker output. The only way to get the sound back
(that I've figure out so far) is to restart the computer.
I'm using RedHat 9 on a Gateway P4-M laptop with ESS1988 sound (maestro3 driver).

invisible "main" window (a name like "Project1"), then all other windows (forms)
have this invisible window as parent. the test program (url given below) does
exactly the same, and reproduces the bug. (it also uses the same style/ex flags)
the buttons show on windows, and on wine in "windows lookalike" mode, but not in

The commands accepted by the Wine debugger are a reasonable
subset of the commands that gdb accepts.
The commands currently are:
help quit
break [*<addr>] watch *<addr>
delete break bpnum disable bpnum
enable bpnum condition <bpnum> [<expr>]
finish cont [N]
step [N] next [N]
stepi [N] nexti [N]
x <addr> print <expr>
display <expr> undisplay <disnum>
delete display <disnum> pass
bt frame <n>
up down
list <lines> disassemble [<addr>][,<addr>]
show dir dir <path>
set <reg> = <expr> set *<addr> = <expr>
mode [16,32,vm86] walk [wnd,class,module,maps,
whatis process,thread,exception]
info (see 'help info' for options)
The 'x' command accepts repeat counts and formats (including 'i') in the
same way that gdb does.
The following are examples of legal expressions:
$eax $eax+0x3 0x1000 ($eip + 256) *$eax *($esp + 3)
Also, a nm format symbol table can be read from a file using the
symbolfile command. Symbols can also be defined individually with
the define command.

You use the red hat 9 package by mistake. Look at the file name. If this is
still a problem with the red hat 8 packages, please reopen this bug.

Hey!
Today I tested wine 20030709 + FreeBSD 4.8 + mIRC 6.01 and it works great!
I use a domain for server-adresse and it works great!
I think other net-apps could work now too.

It's because of some dll separation things that aren't finished yet.
This will be fixed soon, in the meantime you have to build with
optimization so that the functions get inlined.

There is a typo in file dlls/kernel/comm.c. It makes the configuration program
for the Fritz!X isdn adaptor - and maybe other programs too - fail setting up
the serial port.
This diff fixes it.

Here we go... to reproduce the problem do this:
setenv CFLAGS -O0
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/wine
make depend ; make
I'm not sure why the -O0 flags would cause this problem?

Still, on my system (ru_RU.UTF-8) I can enter Cyrillic text in Wine only with
this patch. I attached a newer version of the patch (sync'ed with CVS).
Maybe something is wrong with my setup?

I tried using an IP-address instead of hostmask, it's connecting to the server
and as soon as I am connected on the server it shuts down and the window closes
it's connecting and as soon it's connected it closes it

Have the same Bug with FreeBSD an wine.
For example mIRC does not connect to any server.
But I get mIRC working using IP instead of domain for server-adresse.
But this is no solution I think.
P.S.: It seems to be a DNS-Lookup problem!

Summary: sscanf assigns incorrect value to %n variable
Product: Wine
Version: 20030709
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com

int pos=0;
char s1[32], s2[32];
sscanf("136 I30 I40 hello","%*u %s %s %n",s1,s2,&pos);
// now pos=2! but it should be 12!
this comes out when linking the app dynamically on Windows (XP) and running
with wine on Linux (SuSE 8.1).
After linking statically it works correctly (pos=12).
This may break any dynamically linked application that relies on %n.

My OS is Redhat 9 which uses gcc-3.2.2. Perhaps I had some environment variables
set that affected the build, like CFLAGS=-O0 for no optimization. Normally I
don't touch the environment, however I could have been hacking something else
before I decided to build wine.

- 'wine autorun.inf' cant work since autorun.inf is a test file.
- please modify $HOME/.wine/config to reflect your floppy disk configuration (A:
drive messages)
- you must have a midi configuration in order to get music.

I am trying to install IE5.5 (by running ie5setup). It fails in the middle of
the download process (well, actually near to the end of it). "Cannot download

ie - and found no useful hints.
If there is no bug about IE installation "in general" I offer to use this bug as

End of console output.
I have omitted large similar parts of the output, because it's 300k in size. If there's a possibility to
add an attachment here, I'll add all of it bzipped (then 15k).
I hope you can something about it, because the newer snapshots are definitely better for other
applications (e.g. bridge builder)
Thank you very much,

I have a windows app that requires to read data off the clipboard.
However wine dosn't send updated clipboard information as soon as it recives it.
To read new clipboard data i have to almost reset the program,
I was wondering if an event handler for the clipboard could be inserted into
wine to send updated clipboard information down.
and also the other way if possible atm
Thanks
(i checked but couldnt see this anywhere else)

I started the build again from scratch:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/wine --without-opengl
make depend ; make
This time the build completed without a problem. The first time I got two
unresolved symbols when linking the wine executable:
InterlockedCompareExchange and InterlockedExchange
This forced me to link with kernel32.dll.so and wine worked. However since I
can't reproduce the problem I'll have to blame it on some supernatural force
that cannot be explained.

Running on Redhat 9, trying to play Simcity 2000, it work :-) with a few bugs
Simcity 2000 Problems
minor- autorun.inf on cd in win95 directory does not work(wine does not
reconised the executable type)
minor- music does not work ether(unsure if it a problem with my conf or wine),
but sound effects does work.
minor- that menu of which you click all those little buttons in the main game,
like select road, every time a newspaper or budget or save verifaction appears
the menu hides itself and the game acts like it's not selected. Of course I can
just click on the title bar for the menu to reapear, but this gets annoying very
quickly.
Had around a 93% correct configuration according to wine check.

kernel32.dll.so is the correct name, and the wine binary must not be
linked to kernel32. Something else must be wrong, but I can't tell
without knowing what the actual problem is.

The latest release of Wine (20030709) creates the library kernel32 with the
wrong filename. Fix:
cd dlls
mv kernel32.dll.so libkernel32.dll.so
Also, under the 'miscemu' sub-direcory, the 'wine' executable would not link
because '-lkernel32.dll' was missing from link. Fix:
gcc -o wine -Wl,--section-start,.interp=0x3c000100 main.o -L../dlls -lntdll.dll
-lkernel32.dll -L../libs/wine -lwine -L../libs/unicode -lwine_unicode

Summary: utf8 flag in vfat mount options prevents wine from
working
Product: Wine
Version: 20030618
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-loader
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: jargonautti(a)hotmail.com
If the "utf8" flag is specified in the mount options, Wine aborts with "wine:
cannot find 'programname'. For example, cut 'n pasted from the console:
[juho@ua247d157 juho]$ wine /mnt/dosc/Ohjelmatiedostot/Agent/agent.exe
wine: cannot find '/mnt/dosc/Ohjelmatiedostot/Agent/agent.exe'
If the utf8 flag is removed, wine works normally, but the system can't display
some filenames in VFAT volume correcly (replaces some characters with a ? ).
The line of fstab for this partition reads as follows:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/dosc vfat uid=0,gid=501,umask=007,rw,noexec,codepage=850,utf8 0 0
The partition has been checked for errors with scandisk (in native Windows), and
none were found. Ls and xmms have no problems accessing the partition.
The same problem happens in other partitions mounted with utf8 flag, too.
The problem started immediately (next run) after adding the utf8 and codepage
flags, and disappeared immediately (next run) after removing the utf8 flag, only
to reappear after readding it.
How to reproduce:
1. Mount a vfat volume with utf8 flag.
2. Try to run a program with Wine in that partition.
And please note that the filename (and path) itself contained no special
characters, nor did any other file in any of the directories on the way.
This is a major bug since it prevents one from correctly displaying VFAT
partitions directory lists while working with wine. Since Wine can be expected
to run programs which require access to said directories, this has the makings
of a headache...

Summary: Filename capitalisation issues
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: dseifert(a)gmx.de
I installed wine-20030619-SL8.2.i586.rpm (also tried today's CVS
source) on a SuSE Linux 8.2 installation and tried to install MS Office
2000Pro. The command I used is "wine setup.exe".
The MS Office CD is in /usr/local/dossrc/Office2000Pro (NFS mount).
Installation starts fine, but after the installation progress bar is at
roughly 30%, there's a problem that the file
Z:\usr\local\dossrc\Office2000Pro\OFFICE1.CAB can not be found. I
checked the directory and there is a file office1.cab (47713575 bytes
in size).
It seems that there are problems with file name capitalisation.
Unfortunately I cannot rename office1.cab to OFFICE1.CAB.
Running with --debug=files does not give any output on OFFICE1.CAB,
but after I click on "Retry" in the error message, the following lines
are added in the debug output:

Code notes (server/thread.c):
DECL_HANDLER(init_thread)
{
[-snip-]
int wait_fd = thread_get_inflight_fd( current, req->wait_fd );
[-snip-]
if (wait_fd == -1)
{
fatal_protocol_error( current, "bad wait fd\n" );
goto error;
}
[-snip-]
}
So thread_get_inflight_fd is returning -1 is his case.. but why..?
/* get an inflight fd and purge it from the list */
/* the fd must be closed when no longer used */
int thread_get_inflight_fd( struct thread *thread, int client )
{
int i, ret;
if (client == -1) return -1;
-----something is probably failing between here-----
| do
| {
| for (i = 0; i < MAX_INFLIGHT_FDS; i++)
| {
| if (thread->inflight[i].client == client)
| {
| ret = thread->inflight[i].server;
| thread->inflight[i].server = thread->inflight[i].client = -1;
| return ret;
| }
| }
| } while (!receive_fd( thread->process )); /* in case it is still in the
socket buffer */
-----and here-----
return -1;
}
and so it returns -1. If it doesnt make it to the loop then the client is bad?
Could someone add a trace in between the client == -1 line and the start of the
loop and attach the diff (along with instructions on how to proceed) here?
