An example of the problem
When entering a cutscene in SWTOR, the animated models for characters will have
black flickering spots appear and disappear in a frame during cutscenes. I
cannot find anything in a debug log that would give a reason for this to
happen. All settings are on Ultra. It is incredibly hard to screenshot and show
the problem, but I've attached what I could get.

AviUtl is a Japanese AVI file editing tool. When a user clicks up-down control
in the dialog, the corresponding value is updated but immediately reset after
the click.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Download aviutl_plus_20120619.zip from
http://spring-fragrance.mints.ne.jp/aviutl/
2. Unzip it.
3. Launch aviutil.exe in Japanese locale, i.e. LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine aviutl.exe
4. Choose [設定]-[拡張編集の設定] (Settings-ExEdit Settings), then the window titled
拡張設定 (ExEdit) will be shown.
5. Right click the time-line part on the window and choose [新規プロジェクトの作成]
(Create new project). A new dialog window will appear.
6. Click [OK].
7. After the click, right click the time-line part again and choose
[メディアオブジェクトの追加]-[グループ制御] (Add Media Object-Group Control). グループ制御 (Group
Control) dialog will be shown.
8. In the dialog, click up-down control's down button nearby the lower right
corner.
Expected behavior:
* The left side edit control (indicates 対象レイヤー数 (number of target layers))
shows '1' instead of '--', and keeps the value.
Actual behavior:
* The left side edit control shows '1' while clicking. But, it shows '--' again
right after releasing the mouse button.

Hello!
I tried to update wine to 4.14 on Slackware 32-bit and few of my
games/benchmarks (3Dmark2001SE, Unreal 2 Demo, Unreal Tournament) started to
render upside down!
Wine 4.12.1 was ok, so after compiling and testing 4.13 I can say it is
regression between 4.13 and 4.14.
windows version was set to Win7 (but tried to set it back to WinXP - same
problem).
Note: I use mesa-git drivers:
Mesa 19.3.0-devel (git-a3d42ad248)

The shadow under the character flickers badly, especially in the

(This is with winetricks strictdrawordering=enabled as per bug 22383 )
It is present at least as far back as wine-1.1.36, but it gets
harder to tell as you go further back, because of other problems.

Now that bug 22200 is fixed, Dragon Age Online no longer needs native
msvcr80. But when you move the mouse, there are black
bars in the game's opening menu page.
You can work around this with WINEDEBUG=-msvcrt.
The messages this suppresses look like this:
fixme:msvcrt:_controlfp_s (0x518e8f8 655391 196608) semi-stub
fixme:msvcrt:__crtGetStringTypeW (unk 0, type 1, wstr 0x518e58c(1), 0x518e590)

This seems to be a concrete case of a verbose FIXME causing suboptimal
performance. Should we
a) declare this to be not a problem because the user is supposed to read the
manual or appdb and know to use WINEDEBUG=-all when running this app?
b) declare this to be not a problem because the distro is supposed to patch
or wrap wine to always run apps with WINEDEBUG=-all?
c) temporarily mark the FIXMEs that cause the performance problem to be
displayed once only?
or d) something else?

Black boxes covering player models
While playing Orcs Must Die!, flickering black boxes appear on the edges of
many models, including background models that are part of the arena as well as
character models. These black boxes rarely stay in place long enough to capture
with a screenshot, but I have one that shows two such boxes. They change
position as the player moves and animations execute, but the boxes are present
in almost every frame.
Tested with 1.1.35 and 962230064d and got identical results. I have never tried
to play with earlier versions so I don't know if this is a regression or not.
The attached screenshot shows a black box over the archer's head and the
player's elbow. The box on the archer is permanent, the box on the players
elbow flickers as movement animations occur.

The Witcher 2 suffers from strange anomalies where objects or parts of objects
are drawn as black rather than textured. This occurs regardless of whether GLSL

The only console message during this time is:

I've attached a screenshot showing the issue. Shifting the view slightly
changes what will and won't be shown as black. It happens mostly outdoors and
generally on foliage, although it sometimes appears on characters as well as
the screenshot indicates.

On playing The Forest I'm seeing 2 issues that seems to be related:
- On running around the environment gets often very dark. It is a fading effect
and is maybe a feature of the game but on looking at Let's Plays on Windows
this doesn't appear in such a heavy way.
- Some graphics have missing textures and they will be shown as a white graphic
then. Also I'm noticing that looking at such a graphic does also trigger the
first issue.
In the attachments is the terminal output and 2 screenshots that compare how
the game looks normally at night and how the environemnt turns black after
turning a little to the left (so that I'm looking at a standing fire which have
partly missing textures).

I have experienced serious problems with Wine's internal CHM reader, which does
not seem to be compatible with some CHM files.
Running Wine 4.0.1 stable on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 installed via "brew install
wine".
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
- Open an affected CHM file with "wine hh file.chm"
Note: the CHM files I've tried work flawlessly under Windows XP using native
hh.exe.
ACTIONS THAT INITIATE PROBLEMS:
- Attempt to do either a global search (using the "Search" tab)
- Attempt a page search (using Ctrl-F)
- Attempt to navigate through the document with links on the document's home
page.
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED:
- No results are given for valid searches.
- Home page links do nothing when clicked on.
WHAT DOES WORK:
I can navigate through the document by clicking on links in the "Contents" tab.
SOLUTIONS ATTEMPTED:
- Use a manually installed alternative hh.exe from an original Windows XP and a
Windows 7 installation disk. Result: I cannot bypass Wine's internal CHM
viewer.
- Use a manually installed alternative hh.exe, renamed hhxp.exe (for example),
and changing the registry key at "HKCR\chm.file\shell\open\command" so that it
points to hhxp.exe. Result: I cannot bypass Wine's internal CHM viewer.
- Install an alternative CHM viewer, such as kchmviewer. Result: the file
opens, but navigation and searching are impossible. This may be a problem with
kchmviewer, but I include it here as additional information.
SOLUTION PROPOSED:
- Allow the user to bypass Wine's internal CHM viewer by enabling usage of the
standard hh.exe, or allow usage of a manually installed hh.exe from a standard
Windows installation.

Hello folks,
some apps cause a significant spam = slowdown due to the following FIXME:
--- snip ---
fixme:msvcp:_Mtx_init_in_situ unknown flags ignored: 2
--- snip ---
You can find various bug reports which include such spam:
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46800#c3
I've encountered this recently in an even more annoying form with SIMATIC WinCC
V15.1 Runtime services. Although the spam is partially caused by other bugs
(error paths), it completely bogs down the console when a prefix is
bootstrapped (emitted by 'autostart' type service).

mtx_init
C Thread support library
Defined in header <threads.h>
int mtx_init( mtx_t* mutex, int type );
(since C11)
Creates a new mutex object with type. The object pointed to by mutex is set to
an identifier of the newly created mutex.
type must have one of the following values:
mtx_plain - a simple, non-recursive mutex is created.
mtx_timed - a non-recursive mutex, that supports timeout, is created.
mtx_plain | mtx_recursive - a recursive mutex is created.
mtx_timed | mtx_recursive - a recursive mutex, that supports timeout, is
created.
Parameters
mutex - pointer to the mutex to initialize
type - the type of the mutex
Return value
thrd_success if successful, thrd_error otherwise.

An msi x64 app cannot be uninstalled. This is a regression bug which came in
with Wine-4.6. Uninstalling a x64 app with Wine-4.5 has worked fine.
Repro
- install x64 demo app from the att. of bug 46846 "notation player 4"
- start "wine uninstaller" in a shell window
- select "notation player 4"
- Press button Change/deinstall
Problem:
The msi installer does not uninstalls the app but starts installing the app a
second time. After completing this second installation and trying to uninstall
this app again buts the button "Change/Uninstall" into grey.
An x64 app cannot be uninstalled at all.
The uninstallation of a 32 bit app works fine.

Hello folks,
as the summary says.
It's rather harmless as the failure is catched and handled in managed code.
So the issue is rather about an improvement and the app can be used as test
case.

Filing this based on https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37772#c2.
The default wineprefix created by running wineboot (or anything else) on a 64
bit system is 64 bit, even if wine64 is not explicitly used. However, wine-mono
is not automatically installed to a 64 bit wineprefix unless wine64 is
explicitly invoked. There is no warning to the user that wine-mono is not being
installed, and http://wiki.winehq.org/Mono says nothing about needing to
specify wine64 to install/uninstall it in a 64 bit wineprefix.
If not installing wine-mono to a default wineprefix unless wine64 is specified
is the intended behavior, there should be a warning about that in the console
at wineprefix creation, and it should be documented on the Mono wiki page.

Downloading over FTP is supported under Windows, so Wine should implement this

An example app using this functionality can be found in bug 9741. As I don't
want to argue whether closing that bug was right, I'm opening this new one.

Logs with the __crtGetShowWindowMode call data
The config tool window doesn't show up when launched through Steam (windows
version, not proton) with builtin msvcr110, but with native msvcr110 it shows
up just fine. When launching it without steam it shows up with both native and
builtin.
The reason for this seems to be that the config tool calls
__crtGetShowWindowMode and uses the return value in a call to ShowWindow.
Wine's implementation of __crtGetShowWindowMode seems to differ from the native
dll.
Steam + builtin: window doesn't show up, __crtGetShowWindowMode returns 0.
Steam + native: window does show up, __crtGetShowWindowMode returns ?. (steam
crashes with +snoop)
Without steam + builtin: window shows up, __crtGetShowWindowMode returns 1.
Without steam + native: window shows up, __crtGetShowWindowMode returns 10.
Steam + builtin dll with __crtGetShowWindowMode hardcoded to return 10: window
shows up, __crtGetShowWindowMode returns 10.
I haven't done much investigating with proton, but the window shows up without
any tweaks on proton.

Inquisitor shows only a black screen with lots of red artifacts when the game
is started in fullscreen mode.
Reverting commit ff92a993ad63f6ed94cd1dd873aa578ba46c5979 fixes the black
screen issue.
The problem doesn't occur when the game is launched in windowed mode (in the
configuration file 'd3dparams.ini' the option 'StartWindowed' must be set to
1.)
No demo version is available. Let me know if you need debug logs.

This header is a part of MinGW-W64 compiler.
When trying to #include <propvarutil.h> and use the 'PropVariantToInt64'
function, we get a linker error.
Looking for the latest master branch:
https://github.com/wine-mirror/wine/blob/master/include/propvarutil.h
Seems that there is no extern "C" around function prototypes.
Such workaround fixes the problem:
#include <shtypes.h>
#include <shlwapi.h>
#if defined(__cplusplus)
extern "C" {
#endif
#include <propvarutil.h>
#if defined(__cplusplus)
}
#endif

When trying to setup controller buttons in the Joystick settings panel in game,
all buttons get mapped to BUTTON 1.
Even though the joystick calibration tool in the game's launcher correctly
recognizes the gamepad (an Xbox 360 wireless controller using the xpad driver

It could be a problem with auto-fire.
I'm leaving the severity to normal since it's a kind of game meant to be played
with a joystick or pad. Mouse or keyboard control of the ship are quite aweful.

kernel32: Allow double quote style escape in argv
In Windows, two quotes together (within outer quotes) represents a
single quote (with the first quote - of the inner quotes - acting as an escape
character).
Thus calling 'CreateProcessA' with four quotes as a parameter (i.e. '""""')
will represent a single quote (i.e. '"'). In wine, this is currently being
treated as two separate sets of quotes and thus results in a empty value.
The attached patch fixes the problem.
This can be tested with the following (just copy and paste):
cat << END > test.c
#include <windows.h>
#include <stdio.h>
int main(int argc, const char *argv[])
{
PROCESS_INFORMATION processInfo;

Crash log from Intel GPU
There appears to be some issue with wined3d in Wine 4.0rc3. I haven't been
able to nail down the pattern yet but it seems like when a lot of geometry is
being loaded. For example, zoning into a new area, or entering a cut scene can
cause a crash but it isn't every time. Unsure when this was introduced as I
wasn't able to login until bug 46263 was resolved. I have two separate crash
reports one with a Intel driver and the other with Nvidia proprietary driver.
Both crash in similar circumstances.

least since 3.14 (did not test all versions between 3.3 and 3.14) other HID
devices than Joysticks or Gamepads are not supported anymore. That means they
are not detected and no entries are made in the registry so that the setupdi

When do you plan to add these functionality again? In 4.2 it still doesn't

I have been in contact with Aric, but it looks like he gave up.
It's so easy to test yousrelf. Use the HID test program from Microsoft

Summary: widl generates invalid typelib when an interface

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: richard(a)torproject.org

Background:
We're attempting to add accessibility support to Firefox when building with the
mingw toolchain which requires implementing the IAccessibility2 interface.
However, the typelib (tlb) file that ends up getting generated is invalidated.
The generated tlb be partially loaded using oleview.exe but throws up several
TYPE_E_ELEMENTNOTFOUND errors and the inherited interfaces are apparently not
defined. The interfaces with invalid/undefined inherited interfaces varies
depending on the order in which the child interfaces are defined in the source
IDL.
Reproduction:
I've created a min-repro here: https://github.com/pospeselr/mingw-widl-bug
(you'll need to update the Makefile to point to your local instance of widl)
I tested this with the latest mingw ( commit
c61763cc740f8f4986755eeafce832baa3655ee8 ) which uses widl version 4.5.

documentation may be misleading as well.
I also would like if support for converting 7.1 to stereo to be added to the
dsound component, because games like Need for Speed: Rivals loose audio some
capabilities, fxp. in game dialog is non-existant without this and turn it into
a worse experience than on windows.
Since I already made these changes and tried them out for basic testing, I'll
attach my diffs.
Also any tips on contributing would be helpful,
Cheers

plain terminal output (nothing of interest)
I noticed a couple of glitches in the game Freelancer which occur during the
cutscenes when the player interacts with NPCs in the game. It should be noted
that these glitches only occur after you loaded a saved game: if you don't use
the game's save/load feature just start a new game and follow the storyline
then those problems aren't visible.
1. in the short cutscenes where the player interacts with NPCs, the player
character is missing (invisible). This can be observed as the camera is moving
back and forth between the player and the NPC. It looks like
as if the NPC was speaking to the air.
2. when you enter the bar and click on an NPC to talk to him/her, the NPC's
head is moving unnaturally during the conversation, sometimes the head is
almost spinning around the neck.
Reverting 98eb7171e1d61ec24d337d11b672373dfac19db8 on top of Wine 4.4 fixes the
problem.
Native msvcrt.dll also acts as a workaround.
The problem can be reproduced in the demo version:
1. After installation launch the game. Start a new game from the main menu (a
lengthy cutscene is shown which can't be skipped unfortunately.)
2. When the intro is finished you are on the spaceport screen. Press <F1> to
bring up the system menu and choose the save game menu to save the game. Click
<Return to game> after saving.
3. Reload the save game you just created by using <F1> and <Load Game> menu,
then click on the second icon from the left on the HUD above to enter the bar.
4. Here is another cutscenes playing, you can notice that the player's
character is missing while he's talking to the barkeeper.
5. When the conversation with the barkeeper is over you can see some NPCs in
the bar. Click any of them to start a conversation and watch their heads'
movement during the conversation.

Hi,
I'm trying to get The Sims to work, but when I try to open any menu the game
hangs.
My first suggestion for the cause, was the lack of music. But when I used
winetricks to install quartz, the music played as it should. So there is
probably an other cause for the hang.

Qt 5 applications under Wine 1.6.2 have problems in positioning menus, the
combobox dropdown and other "floating" elements in case of a multiple monitors

In particular, the position of such elements seems to be clamped to the primary

The problem doesn't show with Qt 4 applications.
You can find a statically-linked demo application here

- it just sports a QMainWindow with two menus and a combobox. Its source is at

Two of the sample files including in the free trial:

Layout Style Demo.cxp
do not exhibit this issue. Feedback from the developer states that these two

All other sample files fail when viewing layouts.
On my other system, Linux Mint 19.1, WINE 4.13, the .exe file won't install at

When playing Champions Online through Steam (but I guess the issue would appear
when playing through Arc Games / without a launcher as well) the game sometimes
crashes (on Wine it's most often when trying to drag an item after playing the
game for a while, which causes a glowing outline that crashes a game to cause a
crash, but the game is often unstable even on Windows).
Crashing causes CrypticError.exe to appear with icon in notification area
(which sometimes isn't visible) a balloon notification about gathering system
data to appear which eventually closes, and error window with a place to write
details as well as Cancel and Submit buttons. However, the notification icon
(or rather an empty place from it) often stays open in the taskbar and can't be
closed other than killing CrypticError.exe or even the whole wine prefix (in
Steam that results in game still "Running").
To cause a crash, it's easier to try to launch the game with D9VK or switch
renderer in troubleshooting section of video options to DX11 and play the game
for a while with DXVK then try to drag item which will result in game crash.
The game is free to play and can be downloaded on Steam or through publisher's
website.
That issue was consistently happennig for at least three different computers
running different wine versions and having different software (WM/DE etc.)
installed.
I last tested with wine-staging 4.13.g010c308a but the issue was consistently
happening for almost a year now (along with the crashing issue, but that might
be related to DXVK or game bug), I can retest with the latest master though.

The installation is successful, but when `wine tsmanager.exe` is executed, an
error dialog pops up with the following message:
Cannot find import; DLL may be missing, corrupt, or wrong version
File "wtsapi32.dll", function "WTSEnumerateProcessesExW" (error 0)
Nearly identical dialogs appear as stubs are progressively added for:
WTSEnumerateSessionsExW
WTSOpenServerExW
WTSFreeMemoryExW
After that it complains that utildll.dll is missing, but I'll save that for
another bug report.

Pretty self-explanatory. Wine prints "unimplemented function
ntoskrnl.exe.SePrivilegeCheck" and when a stub is added for that function, Wine
prints "unimplemented function ntoskrnl.exe.SeLocateProcessImageName" instead.

Wine debug log +relay,+ntdll,+winsock
For several years we've been using Wine 1.7.18 on Lubuntu 13 (Linux 3.11.10)
with a proprietary 32-bit Windows application programmed in Delphi. It is
installed on small embedded PCs with AMD Geode LX processors at 500 MHz and 1
GB RAM and we have about 100 of these machines. After upgrading a test machine
to newer Linux distributions and Wine 4.x the application crashes in its
network functions. When booting the same hard drive via USB on a modern PC
everything works, so the bug might be driver related. (But it works on the
older kernel!)
The basic error is this (Wine 4.13 devel):
340728.035:0008:0009:Ret KERNEL32.GetProcAddress() retval=7db174ac

Winedbg does not work. When attaching to the Windows process, the application
crashes and Winedbg says "Can't attach to process ... Error 5". Running the
application in Winedbg directly generates the above error message plus "Process
of pid=xxxx has terminated". There is no backtrace, the thread dies completely.
I have tried various Linux distributions using 4.x kernels (Bodhi Linux 5,
Linux Mint Debian Edition 3, Debian 9.9, Debian 10, Ubuntu 16.04) and also
tried Wine 2.0.2, which is the oldest available binary package, and everytime
the above error occurs. Building a custom Linux kernel for the machine also
didn't change anything. Trying to build Wine 1.7.18 on Debian 10 resulted in
several compile time errors that I am not able to fix, so I am stuck with
available binary packages.
Debugging and changing the Windows application itself managed to move the crash
from the first network connect to when the application is shutdown. Only widely
available network component libraries for Delphi were used (Indy and ICS),
there is no self-developed net code.
So, the same Windows executable works with Wine 1.7.13 on Linux 3.11, but it
crashes in Wine 4.x (I tried several packages from Ubuntu and Debian from
winehq) on modern 4.x Linux kernels on this machine.
Any ideas? I'm ready to provide more needed info.
Thomas

--- Comment #36 from Grant <ggustaf(a)math.utah.edu> ---
Workarounds for the thumbnail bug, new Faststone 7.3 (June 2019) install under
Wine 4.0 in Linux Mint 19.2. Applies to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. Linux Kernel 4.15.
These workarounds do not modify the install at all: expect them to work as well
on modified installs or installs from PlayOnLinux.
Symptom: Thumbnails are generated but only a few are visible.
Issue: Cannot find the image or the file name.
Workaround: Find the image/filename another way.
Workaround #1: Click on the empty spaces after the visible thumbnails. The
image shows in the PREVIEW sub-window lower left corner of the FastStone
window. Double-click on the PREVIEW sub-window for full screen, which shows the
file name as well. Not useful on large directories: see #2 below.
Workaround #2: Double-click on any visible thumbnail. The image is displayed in
full screen. Use arrow keys to find the image desired. Press ESC key. The image
will be in the PREVIEW window, ready to crop (key "x"), resize (key ctrl-R),
save (key ctrl-S).
Workaround #3: Applies to crop and resize of an image. Find any thumbnail in
the directory, click once to make it appear in the PREVIEW sub-window lower
left of the Faststone window. Press "x" to launch the crop window. Click on the
left or right arrow icon in the crop window, which loads a new image into the
crop window and also into the PREVIEW sub-window. Proceed as in workaround #2.

I've got the message while installing the 32 bit windows package Metatrader 4,
using the PlayOnLinux wrapper.
It started to prepare the wine-prefix and download and install the necesary
packages, like gecko... (I cannot remember the complete package name, sorry for
that) and wine-mono-4.5.4.
After that it tried to run the MetaTrader 4 installer and it threw this
exception. See the attached file.
I have been able to install and use this program in Windows succesfully.

Anyone have any other ideas? Does anyone have any idea how to make the native
dll work after wine-2.7-40-gb8bf0c2628 ? Or, any ideas for a fix-forward, to
make the builtin dll render more accurately?
