Example: 1. Open Notepad++ 2. Switch to an OS X application (say TextEdit or Chrome) 3. Copy some text to the clipboard 4. Switch back to Notepad++ 5. Encounter the spinning ball of death However, if you just switched to an OS X application and then switched back without interacting with the clipboard, there is still a 50/50 chance you will encounter the spinning ball of death. I had previously installed it in a Windows XP virtual machine but found the game to be to slow on it so I wanted to try to install it with another method on Mac and decided to try using Wine. With the help of few tutorials I manage to install it in a wrapper and run the game, the game shows the intro video, the game menu but when I try starting the game I get an error saying that a AdapterConfig.exe (an .exe in the game folder) has encountered serous problems and had to be shut down. Because of it the game will not start. This same error also comes up if I try to config the game before I start it up, (There is a menu to start with where you can start the game or configure it before you begin, this is before the menu I talk about earlier and before the intro videos) I have no clue what is going on or how to fix it. When the installation process asks for product key, it is impossible to enter it because the fonts ar too large. You have to enter 5 characters in each field, but only 3 or 4 characters fit in. I already try to chaneg the font size in the "system.reg" file, but it does not effect the font size in the game's installer. But I realized; not all characters don't fit! If I enter only numerics it is possible to enter 5 characters. (any numeric) It seems you can enter 5 characters if they are "thin" (like I, J), but you can enter 3 or 4 characters only with "fat" characters (like O, W, etc.). Halo 2 manages to launch, but does nothing. I get one line of regular log fixme:powrprof:DllMain (0x7e3f0000, 1, 0x1) not fully implemented after which the app proceeds to use 100% CPU power while doing nothing. I tried various debug channels, including +ALL. Even with +ALL, logging ceases after 7.4MB. It's like it's waiting for something. I have no idea what the matter could be. Hopefully some dev can look into this and maybe even fix this. No idea. Additional info: I'm using the Loader.exe which came with my version of Halo2 that was modified to work with WinXP. Poser 7.0 is a 3D model manipulation and rendering program. It has a main background window and several child windows, including a 3D viewport using openGL. It runs quite well in a virtual windows desktop in version 0.9.55. In versions after that, when the 3D window is manipulated, the child windows all disappear behind the main window, as shown in the attached shot. Resizing the main window will allow one to bring the child windows to the foreground, but it happens after EVERY manipulation of the viewport. It only happened very rarely under 0.9.55. This doesn't occur when running on the KDE desktop using the window Manager; however, in this mode moving the window causes the cursor to flash between the normal pointer and the cross shapped move window icon, and the mouse buttons and keyboard to become unresponsive for between 20 seconds and one hour-this did occur prior to version 0.9.55(I suppose I should report this one whilst I'm here). Eventually the flashing stops and the window can then be moved. The GUI itself runs well, but I can't activate the chess engine Houdini 3. There is a security code to enter, but entering it only produces an error message ('Engine: not implemented yet'). However, I am able to load and use a different chess engine, Houdini 1.5. This older, somewhat weaker engine, now in the public domain, doesn't require a security code. A recent Steam update has brought this issue to my attention. It would appear that Valve have either added functionality to steam that requires WSALookupServiceBegin to function correctly, or, have made Steam exit when WSALookupServiceBegin returns an error. Having researched this, I have found other issues and forum posts around the internet, some related to steam and dating back quite some time (2013 was the earliest post I saw about this and steam). Non of these appeared to cite failure due to this issue. This effect appears both with the vanilla wine version wine-1.7.45 and the fedora version wine-1.7.45-1.fc22.x86_64. I will hand in later a screen photo. The 64 bit compile mode finds them, but the 32 bit one does not. I installed the same package for both using dnf, so unless the version is TOO new or something is misnamed and the one wine wants is actually not available, i'm not sure what to do about it. Not that I necessarily need these features, but I am trying to figure out why it cannot find them. ---This package cannot be seen by either 32 bit mode or 64 bit mode--- configure: OpenCL 32-bit development files not found, OpenCL won't be supported. I have installed several opencl related development packages that I found using dnf search, but I can't seem to find one that satisfies this for either 32 or 64 bit builds. --- the following are probably not bugs, but I could not test their detection--- configure: OSS sound system found but too old (OSSv4 needed), OSS won't be supported. I'm not sure which package, if any, provides this functionality on fedora23. I've been attempting to locate such, but as of yet haven't found it. configure: libhal development files not found, no legacy dynamic device support. ^ I don't think fedora even HAS libhal packages anymore, so I can't really test this one. Result = 800b010a, (-2146762486) This only started happening with recent certificates from VeriSign, and only fails when run under Wine. If I run the same command (minus the 'wine' in front, of course) under Windows, using the same certificate, key, etc., the signing attempt succeeds with no errors. I am using a plain-vanilla wine install, under the latest Kubuntu Linux. Installed wine-1.9.1 (Staging) under Fedora 23. created a 32 bit WINEPREFIX as a Windows XP environment with default settings Logger32 installs and starts ok. But if you right click on the logbook page, then select SETUP -> GRID LAYOUT and try to change some checkboxes (didn't matter which one), when clicking APPLY or CANCEL a crash will occur. Similar crashes also happens in other similar windows. Crash seems to occur every time a "modal" window is closed. After upgrading to 1.9.0 from 1.3.0, the fonts in Stars! broke in several ways. Screenshot attached. Nothing else changed on the system - same libraries and same fonts are installed for both Wine versions. I realize it's a wide version gap, but with Wine builds taking 15 min each, I'm afraid I don't have the time right now to bisect closer. 1. The wrong font is picked. Wine 1.3.0 and several previous versions picked the same, correct font as real Win 3.11. 2. The font's height is calculated wrong, leaving only part of the text visible. 3. We could have had a pirated WinXP CD installed via VirtualBox, add the scanner driver to scan. But we CHOOSE NOT TO. I lost my Win98 CD, so I can't use it further. I have still kept the scanner despite its 6 year non-functionality. Well, the issue is that if those special files have references to folders and/or files which names have Latin characters (ñ, í, ó, ~, etc.), the program can not read it well and it truncates those path into blank spaces after the first Latin characters in the line. For example: If the original path is: D:\PROGRAMAS\COMERCIALES\La Malagueña 2.mp3 (Reference to an advertising audio file) The software reads it as: D:\PROGRAMAS\COMERCIALES\La Malague ...blank spaces... (because of the ñ character) As a result of that, the scheduled events (the main reason to use the software) doesn't work so fine (the audio files with Latin characters aren't be played), so... It isn't useful as an automatic schedule program. Free download link to the installer in the URL. The client requires mfc42.dll (winetricks -q mfc42) and Adobe Flash. The Flash 12 install option was broken in my version of winetricks but the client opens the default web browser to the Flash download page. I didn't have any problems installing Flash 16. During installation the client will ask for an email address and new password to create an account (will send verification link to the email account). When launched, it will park in the system tray. IIRC it then shows the release notes and asks for the login credentials. It gets stuck logging in (animated dialog) due to this missing function. The workaround is to use a native dnsapi.dll. I used the SP2GDR (Service Pack 2 General Distribution Release) version from the WindowsXP KB945553 security update to get it working. The update hung for some reason when I started it :D so I simply copied the DLL out of the temp directory it created. Trying to set shaders on anything higher in-game and then clicking on "accept" will freeze the screen (doesn't turn black), cursor remains controllable, music runs until the end (doesn't start to play again). The "game needs to be restarted" dialog doesn't appear, clicking on visible elements from the options menu doesn't do anything. When running the 1996 MFC game Creatures, the Creature View pop-up window is rendered incorrectly when Wine is configured to allow the window manager to decorate windows. With the setting disabled, it is rendered correctly. When rendered correctly, the Window should have a 128x96 client area. Incorrectly, it has a client area of 134x121, which happens to be the exact size of a corrected rendered window including its decorations. To isolate the window manager out of it, I ran with decorations on both Fluxbox and Unity which both experienced the bug. Using NirSoft's WinExplorer on Windows, the following styles are activated on this popup window; WS_DLGFRAME, WS_BORDER, WS_CLIPSIBLINS, WS_VISABLE, WS_POPUP, and WS_EX_WINDOWEDGE. It's window class has the style of; CS_HREDRAW, and CS_VREDRAW. May be worth mentioning; the program make no use of AdjustWindowRect() due to its age, instead seems to only use GetSystemMetrics() and NONCLIENTMETRICS. Running the most recent Wine as of this writing, compiled from source, at commit; 6056a3f1634a72e181fb3a03ca625aaa7720523e.
