When trying to run OWML in a clean Wine prefix it will fail due to issues with
the Newtonsoft.Json library.
Running the same application with regular .NET 4.8 works perfectly fine. This
issue occurs in multiple applications that use Newtonsoft.Json.
To reproduce:
* Download OWML: wget
https://github.com/ow-mods/owml/releases/download/2.6.0/OWML.zip
* Unzip it: unzip OWML.zip
* Start it with a fresh prefix: WINEPREFIX=$PWD/.prefix wine OWML.Launcher.exe
See attachment for error log.
To fix it simply install dotnet48 with winetricks: WINEPREFIX=$PWD/.prefix
winetricks dotnet48
Starting it now will work.

Summary: Majesty Gold HD runs very slowly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.52

Created attachment 52535

Clamp the glFlush rate in the Mac driver to 60Hz
The game Majesty Gold HD (http://www.gog.com/game/majesty_gold_hd ) runs very
slowly under Wine for me (Late 2013 iMac 21.5", quad 2.9GHz Core i5, GeForce GT
750M with 1GB GDDR5, OS X 10.9.5). There is an in-game slider to speed up the
game, but it has no effect.
The game is a DirectDraw 7 game. There are also some reports on Windows
regarding this problem, but most people can solve it by telling the game to use
DirectDraw for blitting (set BlitMode=1 in the MajXPrefs, or use the -useddblit
command line parameter -- see
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/bug-fixes.601217/#pos…
)
The game performs its drawing commands in the same thread that runs the game
logic (I don't know whether anything else is even supported by by DirectDraw
7). From a trace I can see that game performs many small blits to update only
the parts of the screen that have changed. Example from a trace:
trace:ddraw:ddraw_surface7_Blt iface 0x16c160, dst_rect (0,0)-(24,38),

...
I think Wine, however, always flushes a complete new screen via OpenGL, as the
game spends almost all of its time waiting for glFlush() to finish. I have
verified that this is the case by applying the attached patch to the Mac driver
code to unconditionally clamp the glFlush rate to 60Hz. This solves the speed
issue, even at 1920x1080 (without the patch, the game is glacial even at
800x600). Obviously, the patch cannot be integrated in wine, since it
occasionally discards the "last" blit to screen after a static scene change,
leaving old data visible and no longer updating.
I previously posted about this issue (a long time ago) on wine-dev:
https://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2015-February/106625.html . To
answer some questions/suggestions from the end of that thread:
a) the SkipSingleBufferFlushes registry key does not help (my system supports
the GL_APPLE_flush_render extension)
b) related to Henri Verbeet's suggestion that it may be related to wine
possibly not implementing asynchronous ddraw blits: it's true that wine does
not support this, but OTOH the game does not ask for them either: it calls
ddraw_surface7_Blt rather than ddraw_surface7_BltFast (BltFast is documented on
MSDN as always being asynchronous), and it does not set the DDBLT_ASYNC flag
The game offers a built-in ability to wait for vsync via its configuration file
(set the VSync variable in $HOME/Documents/My Games/MajestyHD/MajXPrefs to
"1"), but that only results in
trace:ddraw:ddraw7_WaitForVerticalBlank iface 0x146750, flags 0x1, event 0x0.
fixme:ddraw:ddraw7_WaitForVerticalBlank iface 0x146750, flags 0x1, event 0x0
stub!
I'm also not sure whether it would help, but looking at the ddraw log (which I
will also attach -- it's a trace+ddraw,trace+d3d_draw log), I think it may
since often there are several blits between the vsync waits.
Some possible approaches to tackle this issue may be:
* handle small direct rects more efficiently
* add support for waiting for VSync in ddraw
There is a demo of an older version of the game, but it can only run in 640x480
and there is no way to adjust the game speed via an in-game slider, and at
least on my system the difference with and without my patch is not very visible
there (http://www.cyberlore.com/Majesty/demo.htm )

When launching a game, menu shows only big primitive shapes, which are hard to
click. It's actually a regression from wine 6.0, wine 5.7-11 works fine, also
enabling dgvoodoo2 partially fixes the problem.
The game is not an official copy (becuase I can't find one, even on gog, it's
an old game which doesn't being sold anymore) but a repack, but I don't know if
I can share the link to a torrent here. I have (probably) an copy from disc on
another pc but it's complicated to get copy it on my system.

The simplest way to reproduce the crash is (I was only testing it running
32-bit process):
- disable csmt
- run the test with WINEDEBUG=warn+heap (to guarantee the crash)
The test destroys window/hdc used by current gl context. After that it's not
possible to restore previous context in Direct3DCreate9Ex. It also leads to a
crash when deleting "destroyed" context in
IDirect3DDevice9Ex_CreateOffscreenPlainSurface.

Chronology fails to start and consumes 100% of a CPU when run under wine-mono
until killed.
Based on a log with WINE_MONO_TRACE=wrapper, the only thing it does is call
Steamworks.NativeMethods:SteamAPI_InitSafe, which is a cdecl function with no
arguments. That function then endlessly throws breakpoint exceptions.
InitSafe is a cdecl function with no arguments returning signed char. I have no
idea how we could be screwing this up.

Summary: CompareStringW gives incorrect result for some wide
strings
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: peter(a)cendio.se
It seems like CompareStringW does not work correctly, when using wide/unicode
strings. I first discovered this when I saw that listbox controls sorted
swedish characters (say, LATIN SMALL LETTER A WITH RING ABOVE) side by side
with the base character (LATIN SMALL LETTER A). An example is
http://www.cendio.se/~astrand/wine/40-listbox-sort/list.exe.
The cause seems to be that CompareStringW gives the wrong result. I've created
the small test example
http://www.cendio.se/~astrand/wine/40-listbox-sort/comparestring.exe, with
source available in the same directory. On Windows, the result is that the
string "äpple" is greater than "orange", which is correct. With the latest
Wine CVS version, the result is that "äpple" is lesser than "orange", which is
wrong.

In Wine 7 MDI child windows show strange icons in their title bar (looking like
"0", "1" and some strange rectangular shape, respectively) instead of the
expected standard minimize/restore/close buttons.
This used to work in Wine 4 and possibly later, I could run git-bisect if
really necessary, but it's going to take some time to rebuild Wine ~15 times,
so maybe someone can see where does the problem come from without doing this?
Also, I don't provide a reproducer because I believe this affects any program
using MDI, but please let me know if one is needed (and in which form, source
or binary).

xmodmap example
With xmodmap, I am binding "Mode_switch" to CapsLock in order to simulate a
different layer of keys. I've attached a file (xmodmap.txt) which is all you
need to reproduce this. Download the file and run `xmodmap xmodmap.txt` to
enable the example key map.
The easiest way I've found to test this is to use `wine notepad`. In the
example keymap, Caps + H is bound to the left arrow key. Type something, then
press Caps + H. The expected behavior is to move the cursor to the left, but
this doesn't work. This issue happens with seemingly any application run
through Wine.
You can confirm with `xev` that the xmodmap configuration does indeed work.
I've attempted to use both keycodes and keysyms in the xmodmap configuration;
both result in the same issue. The problem doesn't occur when directly
rebinding a key without using "Mode_switch", but that isn't really a
workaround, so it still seems worth it to report the issue.
Tested on Ubuntu 22.04 running Wine 6.0.3 and GNU Guix running Wine 7.8.
The version of xmodmap is 1.0.10.
I've reviewed bug #20610 and I think it's worth recognizing this as a separate
issue. Maybe the solutions are related.

The affected software is GR Level 3, weather radar software.
Please see the attached image of the issue described below.
In wine-staging 7.16, if the dpi setting in winecfg is greater than 96 the
software only displays in the top left part of the program window. The rest of
the window is either black or covered with artifacts. It is nearly impossible
to interact with the software in this state, making it unusable. If the dpi
value remains at the default 96 the issue is not present, however, on high dpi
monitors that makes the software difficult to use.
I have tested this in Arch and Nobara (modified Fedora 36). The issue is
present on both systems regardless if the prefix is an existing one or a new
prefix.
This issue is not present in wine-staging 7.15.

Recently, there were some bugs about adding the WineHQ repository. And whether
this could be made easier.
I created a simple Debian package that adds the winehq key to the system and
creates a winehq.sources file. As far as I can test, the package works on
Debian, Ubuntu and Mint. This will make the installation the same on these
distributions.
Is there any interest in making this an official winehq package?
The source code can be found on:

It looks like since mid-2020, NtSetSystemTime has been a stub that does nothing
except possibly error when the difference is not greater than -500ms and less
than 500ms.
In the past, wine used to call settimeofday when NtSetSystemTime was
implemented directly in dlls/ntdll/time.c, but this is seemingly no longer
present in dlls/ntdll/unix/sync.c.
Is this intentional? Unfortunately, it's causing a time syncing feature to fail
for a server daemon that I use, which I can't distribute.
The call to NtSetSystemTime is from SetLocalTime(const SYSTEMTIME *).

Updated to winehq-devel from Fedora's wine 7.12
Primary program worked fine with Fedora's wine up to 7.10, but after updating
to 7.12 it would just show a spinning circle icon when opening email message.
dnf downgrade wine took it back to wine 6.16 and got rid of lockup. same
messages opened just fine. No error showing in wine, and nothing in top or ps
-ef?
In up to 7.12 the scroll bar works fine with clicking on arrows or sliding bar.
With 7.13 scroll bar does show, and using the scroll wheel on mouse does have
the scroll process work, but clicking on up or down arrows do nothing, and
trying to drag scroll indicator does nothing.
wheel worked, but was very slow so used imwheel to change setting to 7 to get
it to work better.
Don't know how to get more data on issue.
Since didn't have winehq version of wine running earlier, can't say if this is
new in 7.13, or is something different between Fedora wine and winehq wine?

version off.
System:
Void Linux 5.16.11
pulseaudio-15.0_3
pipewire-0.3.47_1
wine-7.4 (7.3 previously)
What happens:
Run upc.exe (uplay/ubisoft connect) and launch watch_dogs with Windows XP
(because otherwise sound doesnt work in game)
Previously got dialog about not being able to even generate a crash, I assume
because this completely crashed pulse audio. With pipewire and pipewire-pulse
things keep running and I was able to get the attached crash. The backtrace
seems to be more on upc than watch_dogs though.
Game runs fine on Win7 and Win10, but without sound like it has for years.

In-game videos in the game Obduction rely on Windows Media Foundation, and
although they have presumably never worked, the audio and subtitles for these
videos started working in Wine 7.11.
However, in commit 6dc35196ae4a5afda6490abe585bc8d468f1ed2d , which is part of
Wine 7.14, these features stopped working again.

The StarCitizen launcher freezes on start with 100% cpu.
It does not show all UI elements and does not response to the mouse.
The authentication-process is also stuck in that moment.
It feels like a race condition btw the auth process and the launchers UI init
racing for heapspace, wich is currently set down to 0x40000 in
dlls/ntdll/heap.c.
Raising HEAP_DEF_SIZE up to at least 0x80000 made the launcher come up again
and all is fine.

Once you minimize it's window and then maximize it back to normal size, the

On my Debian system, I can install `wine64` (from Debian sources) and I get
wine complaining about missing 32-bit libraries, but working for my purpose
(running 64-bit apitrace).
In CI, where we loaded the winehq repository, I'm unable to cleanly install
wine-stable, without installing both wine-stable-amd64 and wine-stable-i386,
while I believe, the latter should be RECOMMENDED, but NOT REQUIRED.
If there is a chance we could drop the hack to avoid installing the whole i386
subarch into CI, I would be really glad.
Thank you.

DWRITE.DLL cannot be cross-compiled for WIN32 with freetype delay-load
dependency thus fonts are not being rendered on Windows hosts.
Steps I used to enable cross-compilation with freetype:
1. Addad freetype headers into "include" folder
2. Changed in config.h.in:
#define HAVE_FREETYPE 1
#define HAVE_FT2BUILD_H 1
#define SONAME_LIBFREETYPE "freetype.dll"
In order to cross-compile for WIN32 I should use "--without-freetype" key in
configure.

It's purely a cosmetics issue but it's really annoying, so I'd love to hear
from Wine developers. This is not a bug per se, but I don't know where to ask.
It would be really great if Wine was error/warning-free in terms of using

I am running the PC version of Steam within OS X. I have installed Half-Life.
Now I would like to install the high-definition pack. The way to do this is to
visit the link:
steam://installaddon/halflifehd
However, clicking on this link does not automatically send the click to Steam
(so whatever API is used by Steam to register steam:// to redirect to Steam.exe
is having no effect).
When I click on the above link, I get a dialog box within OS X (attached). From
within this dialog, I can select any OS X application (*.app) to receive the
steam:// click. However, if I navigate my drive_c directory, all Windows
executables, including Steam.exe, are gray and cannot be selected. Therefore, I
cannot redirect it to the PC version of Steam. (It's worth noting that one
could redirect it to the Mac version of Steam).
This is obviously a problem with Wine fitting into the OS X design paradigm.
But the program doesn't work as it's supposed to, so it's a bug.

Wine backtrace of Mario Kart DX12
The game Mario Kart DX12 using something called "ThICC_Engine" fails to run in
Wine 5.18 with vkd3d-1.2. It is a freeware game from Itch,
https://mattfiler.itch.io/mario-kart-dx12
I also filed a Mesa bug at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/3567
It may be a Wine/vkd3d bug not a Mesa bug. Odd thing is that if you start it
and leave it alone it starts racing on it's own and that works, see screenshots
at
https://linuxreviews.org/Vkd3d_1.2_Is_Released
but if you start a game to play it the game just crashes.
It should be easy to reproduce since the game is freeware.

Yesterday I updated wine on my Arch 64 bit system from 1.3.33 to 1.3.34. Since
then I've noticed that some now aren't anti-aliased anymore. I've seen it in
Steam when looking at the fonts displaying "MAC", "VIDEOS" etc. on the main
page and on the install pop-up that appears when you install flash11. These
fonts looked fine on 1.3.33 but with 1.3.34 they look "ugly". So some kind of
regression happended.

ws2_32:sock fails quite consistently on wvistau64:
https://test.winehq.org/data/patterns.html#ws2_32:sock
sock.c:3838: Test failed: FIONBIO returned 0
sock.c:3838: Test failed: SIOCATMARK returned 1
sock.c:3848: Test failed: FIONBIO returned 0
These failures happen consistently for both 32- and 64-bit tests on wvistau64
but only the 64-bit WineTest is run daily.
They don't happen at all on wvista though so there must be some difference
between these two VMs.
wvista has the older ws2_32 dll (6.0.6001.18000 vs. 6.0.6002.18005 for
wvistau64), which means the failures happen on the more recent ws2_32. This
makes no sense so the root cause is probably elsewhere.
The failures look like they might be timing related but while adding a
Sleep(50) before the failing lines avoid the first 3838 failure, it's not
reliable and does nothing for the 3848 failure.
The failing tests were introduced in this commit:
commit 2795fa9c00338bfff6304c1b756d1a58f9f6ca60

When executing any program through wine, and using the command line to generate
a virtual desktop, no virtual desktop will be created if it is named "default".
For example,
wine explorer /desktop=default,1920x1080 control
yields the control panel without a bordering desktop.
wine explorer /desktop=foo,1920x1080 control
creates the virtual desktop with the control panel within it correctly, and
names the virtual desktop "foo".
Capitalizations of "default" do not seem to make a difference.

This is the file that failes. Its from the Apache log4net project
I've been using WinSCP on wine for years and just hit my first big issue and it
appears to be a wine issue. I was trying to transfer an xml file to an IIS
server on Windows Server 2019 and it fails on the client side with the error:
- Copying files to remote side failed.
- The specified data could not be decrypted.
The version of WinSCP I am using is 5.17.2 portable. The same issue occurs with
WinSCP 5.11.3 portable.
The error on 5.11.3 is a bit more verbose:
- Using TLSv1.2, cipher TLSv1/SSLv3: ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384, 2048 bit RSA,
ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 TLSv1.2 Kx=ECDH Au=RSA Enc=AESGCM(256)
Mac=AEAD
- Copying files to remote side failed.
- The specified data could not be decrypted.
To isolate if this is a WinSCP issue or a Windows issue, I deployed the exact
same WinSCP 5.17.2 on Windows Server 2008R2 and the file transferred ok with no
errors.
I suspect this issue is related to TLS libraries deployed with Wine.

might be X11 related, and I remember Fedora 36 switching to Wayland, so is that
the problem?

The game crashes at launch with opengl/vulkan renderer. For vulkan renderer, i
use vkd3d-git build as PE (thanks ZF)
I attach the output console and a +d3d,+d3d_shader,+dxgi log.
Use dxvk fixes this issue.

When I try to run the shipped Wine application called 'winemenubuilder' using a
64-bit wine bottle.
I execute: wine winemenubuilder
The result is:
Application could not be started, or no application associated with the
specifie
d file.
ShellExecuteEx failed: File not found.
However, when I try to execute the exact command on a 32-bit bottle (meaning
I'm using the WINEARCH=win32 environment variable during the bottle creation).
I'm actually able to execute the winemenubuilder command without error message.
Other programs like winecfg do just work fine with the 64-bit bottle. As far as
I know it's only happening now with winemenubuilder.

ReplayGain by Foobar gains only with standardoptions and it ignores every
change.
So if I want to write with "+0.0db" to get "89db" on a track he will do this.
But if I want to write with "+6,00" to get "95db" on a track he also writes
with "0,0db". It seems that its a debian versions problem. Ubuntu versions
works fine. But I dont use ubuntu anymore.

Noticed a difference with running wine under my regular user versus a new setup
with root user for testing?
Found my user had a number of dll files in directories were older recent
install under the root user??
Moved old dll to dll.org and then copied the newer one from root?
Fixed my problem, but not sure why the dlls hadn't been updated like most
others? Some just a few months, but one was from 1998?

This issues happens in multiple versions of Wine. Starting with Adobe Reader DC
version 19.012.20034 and onward I am unable to open a PDF file in Adobe reader
on wine.
If you go one version before to Reader DC version 19.010.20100 then Adobe
reader installs and opens PDFs just fine. Something changed in 19.012.x onward
that has broken this.

Trying to open mdb-file gives error message "OLE error 800401F3." or "Provider

With plain wine I get the OLE error. If I use winetricks and install mdac28
and/or jet40 I get the error about no Provider.
Jet-drivers for this old mdb-file is dropped in MDAC26, if I got it correctly.
So one would need MDAC25. I found it at http://www.sima.cat/baixar/WIN98/?T=A
But were not able to install it (error: Already installed).

There are quite a lot of bugs in Wine itself and there's no keyword (

Having "Self" or something like that would be nice.

I'm try to run some CUDA application (Cuda-Z, Warpem) on Debian11.
Both appliations are running find under wine-staging 7.3 on some Debian10

upgraded from Debian10, or installed Debian11 from scratch) and following the
these instructions [1] of installing wine, wine fails to run, and switches into

I remember that a few weeks ago, I could make wine-staging (v7.1?) running on
Debian11. But I can not reproduce this anymore.
I'm suspecting that some dependencies on libraries have changed, or some
dependencies are not correct in the debian/control file.
Or that some some differences in the build environment and my setup is in place
I tried checking finding differences in the packages installed, and fixed a
number of difference, but there are too many. And I've not been successful so
far.
Do you have any ideas how to proceed and identify what the problem might be ?

Printing doesn't work when the windows version is set to win10 in winecfg. It
does work if win7 is set. Unfortunately other important functions of the app
break (e.g. updating) when win7 it set.
This issue was initially discussed with a regression in bug 51853
(https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51853) however the regression was
resolved so I'm opening a new issue.
--Installation Guide--
The app is a bit like kindle in so much as the engine is free but the resources
cost so there is a free download. Unlike kindle it has many advanced research
features and books link together etc. The main app is free but there are paid
features, resources and subscriptions. To use the app you need a free account
https://www.logos.com/product/194909/logos-9-basic. It uses a downloader app
which last I tried doesn't work with wine. The actual msi link is

3 winetricks settings fontsmooth=rgb
4 winetricks dotnet48
5 winetricks settings renderer=gdi (you might need to set the reg key
manually)
6 Install the Logos.msi download but don't run it.
7 wine64 reg add "HKCU\\Software\\Wine\\AppDefaults\\LogosIndexer.exe" /v
Version /t REG_SZ /d vista /f
8 Run Logos and sign in with your free account.
There is a script which downloads a preconfigured wine bottle and sets it all
up in $USER/Logos_BibleP directory which you can then easily remove etc.
https://github.com/ferion11/LogosLinuxInstaller/releases Choose fast install
without wine AppImage.

Possible workaround with Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS is to install
gstreamer1.0-plugins-good:i386.

Summary: GetMonitorInfo returns wrong work area
Product: Wine
Version: CVS/GIT
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lich(a)math.spbu.ru
GetMontorInfo always returns rcWork equal to rcMonitor, but it must take panels
and taskbars into account.
The only solution I can see is to use SystemParametersInfo(SPI_SETWORKAREA)
during initialization time, but I do not know how to deal with different
monitors.
P.S. It is needed to properly implement maximum dimensions of console window.

backtrace generated by Wine
SWAT 4 crashes frequently at seemingly random points of the game. This happens
both when using 64-bit and 32-bit prefixes. I've had three crashes that made
the game quit suddenly and three which generated a backtrace, which I've added
as attachment, all three with the same "page fault on write access on 32-bit
code" error. Since the game saves progress when quitting to the desktop, this
can lead to loss of data.
