Summary: Outlook 2007 cannot read MSG files anymore
Product: Wine
Version: 3.2
Hardware: x86

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: quatze(a)t-online.de

I use wine to drive Outlook 2007 to produce automatically printed PDF files
from MSG files (created by Outlook 2007 under Windows) in a batch script under
linux.
For that I use cupspdf as default printer and call Outlook with the '/p' switch
and the respective file as the second argument.
I have implemented this script well before the 3.0 release. I think it is
running since more than one year. Initially I ran into the issue that Outlook
could not open an MSG file and spit out 'Cannot start Microsoft Office
Outlook'.
So currently I am working around that issue by firstly trying to open the MSG.
If above error is given, I convert the MSG file to an EML file via
http://search.cpan.org/dist/Email-Outlook-Message/
and then reconvert it back to MSG via:
https://labs.rebex.net/mail-converter
Usually, Outlook 2007 can then start and open the file correctly. So there is
already something not in order in view of parsing MSG files created by Outlook
itself.
This was before the update to wine 3.2
Since wine 3.2, no MSG file can be opened. Outlook always drops above error
message regardless if the MSG had been converted or not.
For now I have reverted back to wine 3.1 and everything works as it should.
However, something had been introduced, what breaks Outlook 2007.

Summary: AutoWikiBrowser database scanner fails with "no access

Product: Wine
Version: 1.8
Hardware: x86

System.IO.__Error.WinIOError at System.Xml.XmlReader.ReadToFollowing
Running the AutoWikiBrowser database scanner fails with "no access to memory
location" normally within seconds of scan starting.
Occurs on wine wine-1.8.1 and wine-1.7.39
To reproduce: export WINEARCH=win32
winetricks -q msxml3 dotnet35 corefonts gdiplus riched20 ie6
[Probably only dotnet35 is required for this testing]
download AutoWikiBrowser from http://sourceforge.net/projects/autowikibrowser/
choose latest version (5.8.5.1 at time of writing).
unzip AutoWikiBrowser and run wine AutoWikiBrowser.exe
choose Tools -> Database scanner
download a wikipedia database dump file from https://dumps.wikimedia.org/
browse to the database XML file
search based on title contains 'foo' or other option. Press Start.
Wait for scan to progress. Scan normally fails within seconds with "no access
to memory location" error (stack trace relating to C# XML reader attached).
The problem only intermittently occurs on smaller XML dump files (e.g. < 100 MB
uncompressed) but always occurs on large XML files.
Above process works without error under Mono version 4 on same machine (using
50 GB English wikipedia XML dump file) and of course on native Windows.
Possible further information/speculation:
I have written a simple single threaded console only .NET 2 exe that works
under same wine setup without this error on same machine. So I suspect that the
issue may be to do with multithreading: the AutoWikiBrowser scanner is
multithreaded, versions of the test console exe I wrote failed with same error
if I added multithreading.

work with wine. What's missing is a possibilty to give an application less

The game I am playing is called Puyo Puyo Tetris. This is it:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/546050/Puyo_PuyoTetris
Steps to reproduce:
1. Upgrade to wine-staging 3.5-1
2. Run game
Expected results: Background music and sound effects play and game does not
freeze.
Actual results: Sound effects play but background music does not. Game will
freeze sometimes (when it freezes, it will not recover from having frozen).
I include the "freezing" bit because I think it is related. Whenever the game
freezes, the terminal that I launched the program from shows this line:
00a7:err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x8438a8
"../../../wine-staging/dlls/xaudio2_7/xaudio_dll.c: IXAudio2Impl.lock" wait

The addresses are unpredictable, of course. The second time it happened, I got
the same error but with different addresses.

"../../../wine-staging/dlls/xaudio2_7/xaudio_dll.c: XA2SourceImpl.lock" wait
timed out in thread 0082, blocked by 0092, retrying (60 sec)
The problem seems related to https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39517 ,
but the proposed fix does not work for me. That is, I tried installing
Microsoft's xaudio implementation
winetricks --force xact
but the problem persists after doing this (and restarting the game).
Downgrading to wine-staging 3.4-1 makes the problem go away.
Other info: I am running Arch Linux (Linux computer 4.15.15-1-ARCH #1 SMP

Wine – snapshot effect issue
Description of problem: Once clicked onto the title bar of an application
emulated by Wine in order to enlarge its respective window, all the windows
already opened then on the same desktop, including the window of the
application whose title bar has been clicked on, are suddenly and for the
duration of the wine session set as part of the desktop active background
picture.
Version-Release number of selected component in Fedora 27:
wine-2.20-1.fc27.x86_64
Steps to Reproduce in terminal:
$ sudo dnf install -y wine
$ wget https://www.grc.com/files/DNSBench.exe
$ wine DNSBench.exe (alternatively click the respective execute file)
Actual results: Result is similar to a snapshot of the desktop background at a
definite time, which in that case corresponds to the time the operation of
clicking the title bar of an application emulated by Wine was accomplished.
As noticeable the width of the title bar of the emulated application's enlarged
window does not correspond to the width of enlarged window. See attachment.
Expected results: No snapshot effect. The width of the title bar of the
emulated application's enlarged window to correspond to the width of enlarged
window.

This is why there are different game versions. This big is not linked to the
new game version since it does not apply. But iccup still offers the best
custom game ladder experience, so it's useful to have that game version.
Using ddraw.dll workaround was useful to me by reading this thread.

It's a separate bug but it is related. This bug applies to the old battle.net.
Since 1.18+, all classic blizzard games connect to the "new" battle.net.
This should bug should be closed.
I only see this being useful for people playing old versions (1.16) with some
modified (eg Fish) server.

1) Start `/opt/wine-staging/bin/wine Battlenet/Blizzard\ App/Battle.net\

2) In-game:
Hold Shift-key (to force character not to move when clicking with mouse)
Hold Left Mouse Button down
## What should happen
The mouse button should keep down for as long as I actually hold the mouse
button down. In-game the character should stand still and channel a skill.
## Result
The game acts as if I released my hold of the mouse button and the character
stops channeling it's skill. This happens on every odd mouse-down.
In other words: the first time I hold down the Left Mouse Button everything
works as it should. The second time I hold down the the Left Mouse Button the
game thinks I released it after ~half a second even though I'm still physically
holding the mouse button down. Then on the third time it works as it should, on
the fourth time the button acts if it was released automatically. And the cycle
repeats.

Summary: Focus Problems with Tera
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.24
Hardware: x86-64

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: eli(a)orbsky.homelinux.org
Hi.
Using wine 1.7.24 32bit on x86_64.
Wine is configured to:
Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen
Allow the window manager to decorate the windows
Allow the window manager to control the windows
I play games in full sreen on a dual screen setup. The screen that I play on is
sitting to the right while my other screen is to the left.
The game that I play most of the time is Tera online, but I've seen these
problems other games as well.
1st Focus Problem
-----------------
After starting the game, the launcher pops up and I can login. When I press on
the play button; what should happen next is a splash screen pops up, then a
warning about not being able to exceed 4GB memory should pop up ontop of the
splash screen. I would then dismiss the warning and then the game should pop up
in front and I should be able to play.
What does happen is that the the splash screen, the warning screen and the game
itself are all thrown into the background. I need to alt-tab to the warning
screen before I can dismiss it. Then I need to alt-tab to the game window
before it appears. The game then starts normally.
Now... If I disable "allow the windows manager to control the windows" then the
windows pop up as expected, but.... when the game pops up, the mouse does not
move.
2nd Focus Problem
-----------------
During transition screens the mouse looses focus and I can drag the mouse off
the game. This also happens after starting a dialog with an npc and the dialog
box of the "conversation" appears. If I click on the game again all is well,
but I shouldn't loose the focus.
3rd Focus Problem
-----------------
Sometimes, when actually playing I cannot turn to the left (where my secondary
monitory is sitting and the game is not. I can continue to turn to the right,
but turning left is froozen unless I alt-tab cycle out of and then back into
the game and all is well.
If there is any additional information that you need from me I will do my best
to either provide that info or ask howto provide it.
Thanks for any time you might spend looking into the problem.

Bug #: 32986
Summary: Fallout New Vegas: Anti-aliasing doesn't work properly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.24
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: joedavison.davison(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Before continuing I should mention Multisampling is enabled in the Wine
registry.
Anti-aliasing in Fallout: New Vegas doesn't seem to work like it should. Values
up to 8 samples (as per the launcher) apply anti-aliasing, but it seems like
it's only in fact rendering with 2 samples. Selecting 9 samples or more simply
disables anti-aliasing altogether.
World details are anti-aliased correctly. Buildings, streetlamps and the like
are smoothed like they should be, while objects like grass are not.
Furthermore, structures in the distance (like pylons) are not aliased at all
and look like pencil scribbles from MS Paint.
I've observed this in Wine versions throughout the 1.5.x series. My distro is
Arch Linux x86_64.
DirectX 9 DLL overrides *are* being used as the Steam installer for New Vegas
installs DirectX automatically. I have not yet tested it without overrides.
This doesn't occur in Skyrim, a game that uses the same engine as New Vegas.
My specs:
Nvidia 660Ti 2GB
16GB DDR3 RAM
Intel Core i5 3.4GHz @ 4.0GHz

patch
The following patch has a test which shows that RemoveDirectoryA will set
incorrect GetLastError error.
For example, using RemoveDirectoryA("D:\\not_exist_file") will lead to
ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND in windows while ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND in Wine.
I had tried to write a patch to fix it and it worked.
However, it causes a set of tests failed in ntdll.

Vulkan is now released: https://www.khronos.org/vulkan/
Wine may profit from this.
The HLSL -> SPIR-V compiler can make it possible to translate direct3d shaders.
I guess implementing that backend can make Wine much faster for 3D graphics.
I'm unsure though if the translation interface is too complicated and slow if
the application still does the OpenGL/Direct3D calls.

Using wine-staging 2.21 or older FPS runs into the 100s when in the menu

Origin works well enough, and downloads Titanfall. It's playable at 45% so I
hit play, and it usually gets to the "Respawn" splash screen with the logo

I've attached the backtrace and terminal output, from the latter it looks like
it might be a .dll error, which the first couple lines of the backtrace
corroborate (bcrypt.dll?)

When trying to load the Sylenth1 VSTi in any kind of host, Wine crashes with a
stack dump and backtrace.
You can download Sylenth1 from:
http://www.lennardigital.com/modules/downloads
(5MB, no sign up required.)
This happens in all hosts I tried, native Linux ones (LMMS, QTractor) as well
as Windows ones running in Wine (FL Studio, Reaper.)
The easiest and fastest way to reproduce the error is:
* Install LMMS (should be available in all distros)
* Install Sylenth1 with Wine
* Run LMMS
* Insert the "VeSTige" instrument into the song editor.
You do that by clicking on the "Instruments" icon in the
vertical bar to the left and drag&dropping the "VeSTige"
item into the song editor.
* In the VeSTige GUI (click the newly added VeSTige instrument
to bring up the GUI), click the folder icon, select the
Sylenth1Demo.dll and click OK.
At the moment the DLL runs, Wine crashes.
I'm using Wine 1.3.37 on Gentoo Linux AMD64.

This is a somewhat old regression that I noticed now when I updated wine after
a while.
When you move the cursor to resize a "wine window" (windows decorated by wine,
not the WM, usually windows within a wine app), it now uses a hardcoded wine
cursor instead of the system "resize" cursor icon. (I posted this on forum
first; I am talking about the "resizing arrows" that show up when you move to
the edge or corner of a resize-able window)
I did a regression test, and it turns out this commit
32ccc0b9e0f1536655b7fca6e68823e1bf05374a:
commit 32ccc0b9e0f1536655b7fca6e68823e1bf05374a

forces wine's own cursor icons to be used in those cases. But I want the cursor
to look like the normal (system) cursor again.
I was told to file a bug report at least for enhancement request to disable it
and make it back, somehow, as an option perhaps? If it's not a bug, that is. I
mean, an option to let wine use the normal cursor as before.
Or any workarounds available?

I installed Battle.net on Ubuntu 16.04 using this link
http://askubuntu.com/questions/803785/battle-net-wont-launch-after-latest-u…
and installed Starcraft 2 in the Battle.net app. But when I start the game by
clicking Play it crashes immediately with the message "Unexpected Fatal Error"
and an ID along with it. I have checked in the settings and the game runs in 32
bit mode. Has anyone faced the same problem? Is there a fix for this?

Let's Encrypt and CloudFlare distribute ECC SSL certificates.
If someone tries to use it or connect to an HTTPS website that uses an ECC
certificate, Wine will claim that the certificate is invalid, and throw an
error.
If you try to view the public key directly, the dialog also claims that the
certificate is invalid. This is evident if you view the properties of the
CloudFlare ECC root certificate:

Bug #: 34182
Summary: Empire Earth v2.0: mouse cursor only moves at high
mouse movement
Product: Wine
Version: 1.6
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: toxatec(a)web.de
Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 45468
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=45468
WINEDEBUG="+dinput"; simulated mouse movement with xdotool
Moving the cursor in Empire Earth v2.00.3466 is not possible unless you move
the mouse very quickly. When you do, the cursor moves by only a few pixels.
Generating mouse movement with xdotool [1] showed that the cursor moves by 1
"unit" for each 120 pixels the mouse moves. One "unit" seems to be more than 1
pixel and depend on in-game settings...
$ xdotool mousemove_relative -- 0 119 # --> no cursor movement
$ xdotool mousemove_relative -- 0 120 # --> moves cursor by 1 unit
$ xdotool mousemove_relative -- 0 239 # --> moves cursor by 1 unit
$ xdotool mousemove_relative -- 0 240 # --> moves cursor by 2 units
About the logfile:
Started the game, then in main menu: no mouse movement except 3x 119, then 3x
120 pixels downwards using xdotool, then alt-F4
Those parts look interesting but with I'm lacking the skills to figure out
what's wrong or even fix it:
$ bzcat dinput-120.log.bz2 | grep -B10 -A30 120
$ bzcat dinput-120.log.bz2 | grep -B10 -A30 119
I hope this is helpful..
Using native dinput, behavior is completely different and hard to describe. I'm
not sure if it's relevant:
The game seems to remember the amount of pixels you have moved in X or Y
direction, moving the cursor by a corresponding value on every mouse event
(also clicks). After moving the mouse to the right, the cursor keeps going
right even when you move the mouse left. Moving the mouse in the other
direction lowers that "memory", stopping the cursor eventually.
You have to set "Mouse Sensitivity" to "1" in regedit, otherwise the cursor is
uncontrollably fast.
This is different from the issues with the Demo version or 1.00 (bug 13351),
therefore I'm creating a new bug report.

ClipStuidoPaint English 1.5.4 installs and loads great but the canvas doesn't
work.
(When painting on the canvas it stays white.) But the thumbnails of layers show
that thigns are being painted.
Under the debug mode this is the only thing that comes up:

ROTTR.exe - Wine 3.4 Git testrun
Tested with the following Wine versions (compiled from source):
- Wine 2.22
- Wine 3.0-RC1
- Wine 3.0-RC3
- Wine 3.0
- Wine 3.4
None of these versions work with ROTTR.exe game launcher on Steam. Wine Staging
works, but I haven't had time to check which specific patchset fixes the issue
there.
---------------------
BEHAVIOR DESCRIPTION:
When I launch Steam client and simply try to launch Rise of The Tomb Raider,
the game launcher window doesn't appear as it should. The Steam client just
indicates "Running" status for the game. When I checked system processes, the
game hangs up, using exactly same amount of memory, every time and on every
vanilla Wine version I have tested so far (see the list above). Memory amount
the game reserves is approximately ~126.2 MiB (always). CPU load is stuck at
8%.
I have also tested running ROTTR.exe without Steam client interaction. No
difference.
---------------------
SYSTEM SPECS:
No winetricks nor DLL overrides. Wine prefix 64-bit. Arch Linux 64-bit. Both
Nvidia GTX 1060M & Intel UHD 630 tested with the latest drivers available
(which doesn't really matter because the same issue exists with older drivers,
too).
---------------------
LOG ATTACHMENTS:
I have attached a generic output of running ROTTR.exe on Wine 3.4 Git (latest
available).
My next comment has log of running the game on Staging Git, equivalent
settings, same prefix. And launcher works.

Terminal Log
I am trying to run the student version of Solid Edge ST8 on up-to-date OpenSUSE
Tumbleweed using the latest wine build. It seems that there has not been
activity in the DB entry for SE for years and so I am under no illusion that it
is supposed to work but I can't see any major reason why it should not because
I cannot see any reason for the program needing any hardcore Windows APIs.
After all, it is mostly OpenGL and OpenCL and its big brother NX which it
shares a lot of engines with has native Linux support. I am therefore
determined to get it working.
It installed just fine after I changed Wine to at least Windows 7 (it didn't
like XP...) and the tiny "Viewer" program works but the full program terminates
upon startup with a dialog that says "Error loading LOCALE resource library
SPLASH.drx". I can confirm that the file is present on the filesystem and in
the same place that it is on my Windows PC where the program works.
I have attached the terminal output from wine. I do think though that maybe the
"fixme:module:load_library unsupported flag(s) used (flags: 0x00000060)" line
might be the cause of the problem.

Hello Louis,
this ticket is a meta bug and completely messed up from history/traceability
point of view.
I would rather close this one but people keep posting to it as they have no
idea how GameGuard works and bug tracking processes in general.
Please don't abuse this one further for individual issues which could be
perfectly separated into own ticket(s).
Regards

Hello,
I have found a bug with fortnine Battle Royal.
The sound bug appear when you play and in loading screen.
I have fix it once but I can not reproduce it on clean wine prefix.
In the WinePrefix without this bug on winetricks this elements are ticked:
d3dx10,d3dx10_43,d3dx11_43,all d3dx9,directx9,xact,xinput
And nothing in libraries tab on winecfg
I had the terminal output with and wihout the bug.

I using a 64bit Manjaro (an Arch based) linux, the version is 17.0.1 on a
desktop computer. (Core2Quad Q6600 4GB ram, Nvidia GTX650 OC 2GB)
I have this strange mouse movement in many 3D games under Wine.
When moving the mouse slowly, it always moves down-righ a bit, no matter which
way I really move the mouse.
It is possible to move to the direction that I really move the mouse, but it
looks like something "fighting" with my mouse movement and always moving it a
bit to the down right direction.
I tried with 3 different mouse (a Logitech cordless, a Trust GXT 25, and a
noname cheap one) in every USB port and always getting this strange movement
with every mouse.
This problem is makes those games impossible to play, because it is impossible
to aim correctly.
I already searched for solutions on the web, but I can't find anything that
works.
Changing anything with winecfg not working. Changing mouse settings in the OS
not helping.
There is one suggestion that said, this is something to do with that the OS is
recognising the mouse as a joystick/gamepad, so not wine problem, but that not
the problem in my case!
I tried that "solution" too and I find out my mouse is fine and not recognised
as a joystick, so I think the problem is really with Wine.
I think this is Wine problem, because those games under real Windows in this
same computer, are working fine.
Most of the games that I own and like to play are working fine in Wine and/or
have native Linux versions.
But that few that is affected with this problem are in the top that I really
like. So it would be really nice, if someone can help me to get rid of this
problem.
One more thing; this strange movement is only happening in the 3D environment.
In menus or inventory or something like that, when you see a mouse cursor it
never happens, the mouse moving normally as expected.
Games that not using 3D are not affected with this, and there are some 3D games
that working fine.
I think this is not releated to specific game engine, because it happens to me
with games with different 3D engines.

As in the title, I cannot use full screen resolution (1366x768, 16:9) with game
that support it.
In particular the game is GTA San Andreas (I think 1.01v).
I'm using wine 1.5.27.
The game lists only 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768. On Windows it is able to start
with the full screen resolution (1366x768) and there are also more other
resolutions available.
The game has been installed in the same way on both Windows (7) and Linux (Xubu
12.10).
I tried to use a virtual desktop. I set it to 1366x768 but the game still lists
only 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768.
I also tried to use a bigger virtual desktop (4000x3000). In this case, the
game was able to recognize the 4000x3000 resolution (it started but clearly was
unplayable due to huge resolution) but 1366x768 is still not present.

I've found a strang bug while testing my program.
I used few WINAPI funcs for codepage converting (the file path was in UTF-8,
and to open it, I needed to convert it to the Windows's awkward wchar_t and
back). I hadn't a copy of Windows that time, so I tested it on wine. There's
the tested code:
char* WcharToUTF8(wchar_t *in)
{
uint64_t len = WideCharToMultiByte(CP_UTF8, MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS, in, -1,
NULL, 0, NULL, NULL);
char *out = (char*)calloc((len + 1) * 6, sizeof(char));
WideCharToMultiByte(CP_UTF8, MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS, in, -1, out, len, NULL,
NULL);
return out;
}
It worked on wine. On wine it returns correctly converted string. On real
Windows it returns nothing, and empty string crashes the program.
After replasing MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS with 0 it worked on both wine and Windows.
char* WcharToUTF8(wchar_t *in)
{
uint64_t len = WideCharToMultiByte(CP_UTF8, 0, in, -1, NULL, 0, NULL,
NULL);
char *out = (char*)calloc(len + 1, sizeof(char));
WideCharToMultiByte(CP_UTF8, 0, in, -1, out, len, NULL, NULL);
return out;
}
Also, the code was stolen from MSDN page about codepages, and there was a note
about "nothing will work correctly WITHOUT MB_ERR_INVALID_CHARS".
Windows bug? Wine bug? Wine did work as said in MSDN, Windows did not.

This is an indie game built on Unity (4.5.x).
When the game uses the DX11 renderer and you enter the 3D world of the game,

Game has black and red textures (particularly in faces, mainly visible in

Problem can be worked around by changing any graphical setting (such as Shadow
Quality), resulting in near correct output (disregarding other bugs):

If I reload a save, the problem will occur again. Problem is not limited to

cutscenes, but intermittent outside of cutscenes.
Testing was done using this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2033/?

Expected result:
It shows "縋る" in the text area.
Actual result:
It shows "・vる" in the text area (see the attachment).
Note:
* When I open a text file which contains "縋", it shows without issues.
I can paste the character, too. Therefore, it's an input side bug, I think.
* I can also reproduce with JIS X 0208 level 2 characters whose leading byte
value greater than or equals to 0xE0.

script.sh: Test script to reproduce the problem; test.c: Windows program;
hello.c: Host/Linux program
The problem arises from the fact that `create_process_impl()` in
`dlls/kernel32/process.c` ultimately calls `MODULE_get_binary_info()` in
`dlls/kernel32/module.c` which detects PIE exectuables as ELF shared objects
and thus sets `info->type = BINARY_UNIX_LIB;` instead of `info->type =
BINARY_UNIX_EXE;`. I do not have enough knowledge about the precise way that
Winelib apps are implemented or supposed to work, but the fact that PIE
executables are in fact ELF shared objects and not ELF executables according to
the ELF header, causes Wine to detect these as Winelib apps and ultimately
invoke the wrong process creation path.
The problem especially manifests on the just released Debian 9 Stretch because
Debian 9 now uses PIE executables throughout the distribution and these cannot
be started any more from within programs running on Wine. Tested with
winehq-devel packages 2.10 as well as Debian 9 packaged Wine 1.8.7 and 2.0.
Looking at Wine git master, the relevant code paths have not changed at all for
quite some time, thus this very likely also applies to all other Wine versions
as well. Non-PIE executables work fine.
Test script (script.sh) to reproduce the problem as well as output of the test
script attached.

Bug occurs on DigitalMicrograph versions 1.8.3 and 2.3.0 (others not tested)
and with wine 1.6.2 and wine-1.9.13 (others not tested).
>From tracing the outputs and by debugging wine I found the reason for the crash
to be in dlls/user32/edit.c: The application calls EM_GETHANDLE and later
WM_SETFONT on an edit control (without sending EM_SETHANDLE in between). During
processing WM_SETFONT the es->text field is accessed, which at this point
contains NULL due to the inhibited buffer locking after EM_GETHANDLE.

terminal output
I tested this bug with the GOG.com version of the game, but it can be
reproduced with the demo version, too.
The demo contains only a sample save game but that will do to reproduce the
bug.
The game becomes unresponsive when I start a new game (after the party
selection and intro video), or when I try to load a previously saved game. The
game executable constantly pegging the CPU at 100% and the game needs to be
closed forcibly.
To reproduce the problem in the demo:
1. Install the demo and start Wiz8.exe. On first launch the game configuration
window will appear (requires mfc42.dll). Just accept the default settings and
get in the game.
2. In the menu select load game and choose the only available save game the
demo offers --> the game hangs for good.
Reverting the following commit fixes the problem for me:
commit ee33d38c5041a8293c64257801572d1c742b0aba

msvcrt: Call cdecl functions with empty FPU stack in _CI* functions.
The FPU stack should be empty on cdecl function call. Failing to do so
breaks GCC 6.4.0 -O2 optimized code.
Using native msvcrt.dll also works around the problem (winetricks vcrun6).
I'm on Arch Linux (64-bit) and gcc version is: gcc version 7.2.1 20171128 (GCC)
I compiled Wine without compiler optimizations '-O0 -g' but that didn't solve
the problem.

First of all, I'd like to apologize if I came to the wrong bigtracker, since
I'm a wineskin user, not pure wine user. But I believe the problem is a
wine-specific, not wineskin specific.
I'm using Wineskin 2.6.0 (latest) with Wine Engine WS9Wine1.7.18 (the latest
available via Wineskin).
I'm connecting PS4 Gamepad via Bluetooth, then I start a Wine/Wineskin Command

If I disconnect the gamepad, the applet works fine.
I attached the crash log information in a text file. I can provide any debug

Summary: Stereo IMA ADPCM encoding in WINE produces loud static
instead of sound
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.8
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: msacm32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Nachanon_Vetjasit(a)hotmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
I've been using Microsoft Sound Recorder to convert PCM (44100Hz 16-bit Stereo)
wave file to IMA ADPCM (44100Hz 4-bit Stereo), and saved to a wave file.
When I played the file in MPlayer, instead of the desired sound,
it played a loud static on the right channel, and a mashup of both
original channels on the left channel.
Mono encoding didn't affected though.
Other codecs are fine, except PCM (crashes; bug #26388), MS ADPCM
and MP3 (unavailable).
To reproduce:
- Start Microsoft Sound Recorder (use Windows XP version or below):
$ wine sndrec32.exe
- Open some PCM wave file that is 44100Hz 16-bit Stereo.
- Go to File > Properties
- Click "Convert Now"
- Choose "IMA ADPCM" codec with 44100Hz 4-bit Stereo configuration.
- Click "OK"
- Save it to another wave file. (No matter play button is grayed out or not)
- Play that wave file with any player that supports IMA ADPCM.
You'll hear a loud static on the right channel, and mashed-up sound
on the left.
Another thing is after encoded, Sound Recorder saw a doubled length of audio,
MPlayer also saw so. When played, playhead moved twice the normal speed.
(Which is a strange behavior)
Note: I filed this as msacm32 since Sound Recorder is using it
directly for encoding.
Using WINE 1.3.8 (source) on Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 (i386: Intel Pentium 4
2.66GHz)
WINE Audio Driver: ALSA 44100Hz 16bit (Full Hardware Acceleration)
WINE installed without GStreamer support.

Segment of relay output
I'm trying to get Astroplanner to run with Wine. The author has a low opinion
of Linux users being willing to pay for his software. So it only runs natively
on Windows and OSX. I'd like to prove him wrong, but I need to get it running
first. I'm doing this on an up to date Ubuntu 8.04 laptop. I've installed
Wine from the repository. I've attached a segment of the relay output around
what I think is causing the problem. Recreating the problem is very easy.
Download Astroplanner from
http://www.ilangainc.com/astroplanner/reguserdl/V1.6.1/AstroPlannerWindows.….
It runs in demo mode until registration. There is no installation process, so
just run it under Wine. After a lot of initialization, the application comes
up. Create a new plan when that screen comes up. Open the Edit,
Preferences... window. The problem occurs when you close that window. This
seems quite reliable. The problem seems to be an unhandled page fault in
ntdll, but I really don't know if that is the real problem. Thanks.

The config application for the Temple+ mod uses a library that calls

It crashes on startup because the method currently returns E_NOTIMPL;
To implement this correctly wine needs its known folder definition expanded by
the redirection capabilities as this is currently completely missing.

We have a port of OpenSSH to Windows that work well on a real Windows system,
but crashes under Wine. I've tried to pinpoint the issue but I get very weird
stack behaviours under winedbg. I've attached a binary with debug symbols.
A simple "ssh.exe server.example.com" crashes. Stepping shows that the crash is
on this code:
sshconnect.c:641
> if (sscanf(server_version_string, "SSH-%d.%d-%[^\n]\n",
> &remote_major, &remote_minor, remote_version) != 3)
However the stack is already corrupt when this code is reached.
Stepping earlier in the program causes it to crap out when doing this call:
ssh.c:1095
> direct = option_clear_or_none(options.proxy_command) &&
options.proxy_command is NULL before the function is called, but once
option_clear_or_none() the stack is bonkers with local variables and the call
trace messed up. However it still executes a lot of code correctly after this,
so it might just be a winedbg bug.
Not sure how to proceed at this point.

Full build log with all warnings
I'm using VC++ 2013 command-line compilers under Linux with WINE.
I'm specifying /SUBSYSTEM:WINDOWS,5.1 to link.exe to target Windows XP for x86
32 bits.
Unfortunately, when using WINE VC++ runtimes, I got :
LINK : warning LNK4010: invalid subsystem version number 5.1; default subsystem
version assumed
I tried to check what warnings WINE returned but I think the only relevant one
was : fixme:heap:RtlSetHeapInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0 stub
When I check the PE header of compiled executable, the minimum Windows version
is set to 6.0.
When using native msvcr120.dll by specifying :
export WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcr120.dll=n"
Everything link perfectly without warning and the PE headers has Windows 5.1
minimum version.
I attached the full build log with all warnings.
If you need a test case, I can create a small one with required VC++
executables and all files to reproduce the issue.
Thanks :)

stdout/stderr output with the crash
Hi there,
I've downloaded the very latest (I think its the very latest) MSVC LINK.EXE
from Microsoft and tried to get it working with my locally compiled Wine
version 2.19.
You can download the linker from this URL [1] that points to a zip file
containing the linker. Inside that zip file the link.exe is located in the path
[2]. The linker is a 64 bit binary, so it needs 64 bit Wine. WOW64 is not
needed.
You'll obviously also need a Windows SDK handy to try out the linker, and some
object files to feed it with. I haven't tried out whether cl.exe works, its not
my priority. My object files were generated by rustc which uses llvm, its msvc
based target only uses the linker.
You can see that my setup is a bit hard to reproduce, therefore it would
probably be the best idea to just send me a patch that I can then test.
Just invoking the linker without any args works as expected. It prints all the
options and then complains that it didn't get any args fed.
If you use the linker to link actual payloads however, you'll get an error,
boiling down to the following error message: wine: Call from 0x7b44f727 to
unimplemented function api-ms-win-crt-string-l1-1-0.dll._memicmp_l, aborting
I've attached a file containing stdout/stderr output of the linker with the
crash happening and the /VERBOSE option passed.
I've created a patch for wine to implement the stubbed out _memicmp_l in all
the dlls that reference it and with the patch applied the linker is able to
produce working binaries for me!
Now I am afraid I can't share the patch with you because I can't fulfill your
requirements for contributions. However, I hope my information that
implementing that function fixes the issue for me, will lead to the function
being implemented in upstream Wine as well. I am ready to test any patches you
send me.
Thank you!

it, so I am guessing it hasn't been reported/fixed yet.
The game worked fine without any winetricks, but the workaround currently would
be to use vcrun2012-2013:

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, yet the effect can potentially negatively
affect various apps.
Probably even regedit shows it, but to pick a random external app that shows a
problem, let's look at Cheat Engine 6.6.
In its Help Menu, there's 'Cheat Engine Tutorial(64-bit)' option.
If FontSmoothing (that registry option) is off, it fits the menu. But if it's
on, the text is just a bit too wide, so it's cut off. It's also noticeable on
keyboard shortcuts.

When using WeChat with default Wine installation (no library overrides), any
text typed in the chat window is not shown. The text input window remains
empty. The text however is indeed being accepted, and pressing "send" sends it
correctly.
Using winetricks riched32 fixes this completely.

This may be a duplicate of 11521, but I'm not sure.
I have owner drawn buttons in my own app, and they work fine in WINE - unless I
enable a theme in the 'desktop integration' settings. Then the buttons don't
appear at all until I click them. Without a desktop theme, the buttons also
redraw on mouse-over, but not with a theme. You have to actually click them,
and then they show up - but they don't redraw on mouse over even then.
I think this used to work prior to version 1.8. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had
theming enabled on this machine. It's an old Linux machine that I recently
brought up to date - don't know what WINE version was on it previously.

Delphi 7 relies on registry value enumeration (for

It's using the Caphyon 'Advanced Installer' so bug #34989 applies but that bug
specifically indicates it hangs when the problem occurs. This installer does
hang but only after the error dialog is closed.
I originally tested this with Wine 1.8-rc3 and encountered the same error (also
filed bug #39792 for a different problem with the installed app). After 1.8
was released I complied it from git since I couldn't find a package for Xubuntu
14.04 (Trusty). I included the latest patch for the MSI bug:
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34989#c16
The same error occurred. Installing various native DLLs with winetricks
(identified with Dependency Walker) failed to change the result.

too. The game can be launched directly, without Steam running.
Beside the Bermuda game, I have 2 more games on Steam that crash with the same
backtrace. Maybe it's only a coincidence that all these games require
msscript.ocx to start. The crash reported here occurs sooner, so it's doesn't
matter whether msscript.ocx is installed or not.
I remembered that those games used to start properly in previous Wine versions
(provided msccript.ocx was installed).
The result of the regression test is probably not the cause of the crash, but
it could have surfaced a different bug in Wine. I talked about it on irc with
Nikolay and he also has doubts that this commit has anything with the crash.
However, I verified that those games don't crash prior to
commit 50ad765cd604630214d87f9e696d7da216c0f814
kernel32: Added a message for WSAECONNRESET.
