Magicka error log
When starting up Magicka via Steam in wine the game throws an error and quits
likely when it wants to start to render the logos/splashscreen. It just gets to
the point were it has a "ingame"-rendered mousepointer on a white background
and goes no further.
The error description is (full Magicka log attached):
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: The render target index must be within the
valid range for this device.
Parameter name: renderTargetIndex
Software and hardware:
Wine 1.5.9
Ubuntu 12.04
Steam, DX9, XNA31 and dotnet35 via latest devversion of winetricks
Tested, in turn, with both the following graphics cards (identical error on
both)
Radeon 6770 - driver 2:8.960-0ubuntu1
Geforce 250 - driver 295.49-0ubuntu0.1
Also tested both the fullversion (current latest 1.4.7.0) of Magicka (steam ID
42910) and the free demo (current latest 1.4.0.0) (steam ID 73050). Again, same
behaviour in both versions with wine 1.5.9.

The default message handler for WM_DESTROY for list view with LVS_OWNERDATA
sends WM_NOTIFY (LVN_GETDISPINFO) message to the control. This does not happen
on Windows (tested on XP, Vista, 7 and 8).
This causes crash in WinSCP application as objects that are released on
WM_DESTROY are accessed in WM_NOTIFY (LVN_GETDISPINFO) handler.
I'm attaching simple test application that show this. Press "Destroy view"
button.
On Windows, you will see, in the log view on the left side:
Message [0002] - WM_DESTROY

I've noticed that these two tests fail on Fedora 20 64-bit, and at first
assumed that it was a missing 32-bit ntlm_auth:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=968860
but looking into it further, it looks like wine isn't compatible with samba4.
To test this, I tried in my debian 7 (wheezy) VM, which has both samba versions
available.
$ sudo apt-get -y install winbind
$ cd ~/wine-git/dlls/secur32/tests
$ rm *ok ; make test
works
$ sudo apt-get -y install winbind4
$ cd ~/wine-git/dlls/secur32/tests
$ rm *ok ; make test
fails very quickly. Some of the default entries from samba3 are not valid in
samba4. With a minimalized smb.conf (attached), I was able to get rid of the
warnings from samba4, but the tests still fail (and pass with samba3).

In Ubuntu 8.04, AMD64 version,
Team Fortress 2 is unstable in Wine 1.1.4 (reverting to 1.1.3 fixes this
issue).
Crashes are semi-random, but include:
Semi-regular crashes on resolution change or other events restarting the render
backend.
Semi-regular crashes on Alt-Tab to and then from desktop - this also seems to
crash X with a segfault
Xorg[6069]: segfault at 8 rip 7feceb912cab rsp 7ffff837cdb0 error 4
If neither of those happens, invariably TF2 crashes (after around 15 minutes of
play) with some access violation in opengl libraries, freezing the screen and
requiring the user to switch to a virtual terminal and use wineserver -k to
kill the process and regain use of their X session.
I'll get some logs and attach them in a bit.

I tried to back up my game files, to move them to another computer.
I selected the game, then backup local game files, choose ~/Desktop as folder,
and i pressed the "Make a new folder button"
the dialog came up alright, but the box didn't want to accept any keystroke
(neither number or letter).
After that, I manually made a new folder from the gnome desktop, and I was able
to choose the folder. In the next step i could type size (number) in MB my game
files i wanted to split too.

unimportant bug in this case, but it may affect applications that monitor

probably a simple fix, and it is, in fact, a bug.

Shadow Vault freezes during the initial log screen. Under Windows, this load
screen would be followed by the intro video. Occasionally, the program will
skip the intro video and display the main menu (slightly corrupted and without
a mouse cursor), but the game then hangs when you try to start a new game (at
the point the new game intro video would play). I've attached a console log,
but the game reacts differently when run with alternate WINEDEBUG settings.
+relay causes a crash instead of a freeze and +all allows the game to run
normally, but too slow to play.

The program works under wine 1.0.1, but produces and "unsupported operation"

The website has a free download that can be used to test for the fault. The
problem has been there for at least a couple of years, but I suspect no one has
made any attempt to trace it until now. This program is used every year, so it
would be nice to get it going under current versions of wine.
Good luck. If I can be of further help please ask.

If once game started and save & config files created, the game won't crash

Summary: Patrician III: divide by zero exception scrolling the
city view (side effect in user32.SubtractRect())
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: user32
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: jcantero(a)gmail.com
Created attachment 47575
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=47575
Backtrace of the exception, wine trace log and an example .c of the bug
The game 'Patrician III: Rise of the Hanse' crashes by a 'divide by zero'
exception in certain conditions (later explained). I've debugged and found the
root of the bug: it's a side effect in the wine implementation of
user32.SubtractRect() function. In my attachment there's a C program that
simulates the error (and a fixed version of the function to avoid it).
I'm using wine 1.6.2, but this bug applies to all versions of wine to this day.
In git-master it's here:
https://github.com/mirrors/wine/blob/master/dlls/user32/uitools.c#L1424 . The
bug was already reported serveral times, but due to lack of new information it
was CLOSED ABANDONED (for example bugs #11768 and #16535). The bug is also
mentioned as well-known in the comments of the AppDB entry of Patrician III
(the vast majority of users avoid the bug disabling the feature that triggers
it). Other applications can be also affected by this bug (see later).
But first is first: the symptoms. The users of Patrician 3 suffer this bug when
they try to scroll the city view and that city has a layer of weather effects
(rain, fog, snow, ...). If the user changes the view of the city using the
minimap, it works but only if the original rectangle of the view and the
rectangle of the new position don't overlap. If they overlap in any way, or
when the user tries to scroll the view (then it always overlap), the situation
is detected by a call to user32.IntersectRect() function that returns TRUE, and
the program branchs through 2 calls to SubtractRect() (I suppose to find the
area that it's not in common between the two views). These calls fail when the
actual version of the wine user32 library is used: they return an empty
rectangle (with values {0, 0, 0, 0}) instead the expected one. The code of
Patrician III is not prepared to handle the unexpected result, and when it
tries to use such values in some calculations including a division, it crashes
due a 'divide by zero' exception. That's what I found debugging the executable
with winedbg. The attachment includes a log of (part of) the calls (it's a long
list but the only relevant info is just before the exception near the end of
the file).
The cause of this bug lies in... let's say an unorthodox use of the
SubtractRect() function. In the common case, the wine version works flawlessly.
But that particular code of Patrician III calls SubtractRect() using the same
pointer for the out value (dst) and one of the in values (src2). One of the
first things that the wine implementation of SubtractRect() does is copying the
scr1 value to dst. But with dst==src2, the assign also changes src2 as a side
effect, provoking the bug. That behaviour is what is needed to fix. This bug
can also affect other programs that uses the function in the same way
(fortunately the bug is not present in Windows version, so there can't be any
program that rely on it).
In my attachment the SubtractRect.c that can be compiled (alone) to demo the
bug behaviour. It calls SubtractRect() -a straight version from source code-
with 3 different parameters (working as intended) and with the 1st and 3rd same
parameter (bug). The .c has 2 #defines in the beginning, one to show more debug
info and another to replace SubtractRect() with a fixed SubtractRect2() that I
tested. The fix is not probably the best of the solutions, it only delays the
copy *dest = *src1; past the uses of src1 and src2. But it works! (a better
solution probably wouldn't use dst as a lvalue at all, only as a rvalue).
I've applied the patch to wine 1.6.2 and now Patrician III is working with the
weather effects to high :)

Wine crashes when I click on the Launch button with Half-Life 2 selected
in the My Games tab in Steam.
I am running Arch Linux (dual-booted with Leopard on a Macbook
(13-inch)), and I downloaded Wine from Arch's package manager.
After first encountering the crashing behavior, I removed ~/.wine and
reinstalled everything pertaining to wine. I then installed Steam,
following the instructions on the AppDB page for Steam. I then installed
Half-Life 2 using Steam. When I click on the Launch button, Wine
crashes.
The attached file "log" is a copy of the terminal output when I start
Wine with the command
wine "C:\Program
Files\Steam\steam.exe"
. The last four lines (not counting the $
prompt) appear once I click on the Launch button. The previous lines up
to and including "fake device notification handle" appeared as Steam was
loading.
The attached file "report_file" was created using the command
WINEDEBUG=+relay wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" 2>&1 |
tee relay.out;tail -n 100 relay.out > report_file
.

Both CS:S and Team Fortress 2 both seem to run fine, but any keyboard input at
any time will cause the .exe to crash. Nothing else appears wrong. I can join
games and play as long as no movement with keyboard is made.
CS:S before the engine update worked fine, but now it's running on something
similar to the TF2 engine, and it does the same thing.
I can't grab a log of the crash, and the terminal doesn't report anything.

It puts a link on the desktop that starts
<install_dir>/bin/win_x86/uktrucks.exe, the game config utility and launcher.
When I press "Start" in the launcher, it shows a blank window and nothing else
happens.
The demo is actually the full game, limited to 1 hour of play. Apparently, it
tries to connect to the internet and show a web page to let the user an option
to buy a full game.
The full digital version has similar problem. It requires activation over the
internet and it seems that's what it tries to do when I try to run the game.

splinter cell demo #2: shadow error in projector mode
Hi there,
I'm currently trying to get Splinter Cell running on my system. After
experiencing some massive problems with the full version I switched down to the
demo versions (there are two AFAIK), and I'm now trying to get the demo #2 to
perform correctly.
I've disabled GLSL and set the OffscreenRenderingMode to fbo.
I also tweaked the Splinter Cell ini a bit, so it uses "shadow projector mode"
instead of "shadow buffers", by changing the line
ForceShadowMode=0
in the D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice section.
Still I get some visual errors with the shadows. Seems like some sort of
polygon/decal offset problem, see the screenshots for more details.
Also I have the already mentioned "light source bug", which makes some
lightsources shine through massive geometry, I'm also attaching these screens.
The console is still flooded with various error messages about invalid GL
instructions, and so on, also going to attach some logs.
The shifted screen bug (that I reported in this bug:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9609 - screenshots already there) also
happens with the demo. If I'm running the demo with 640x480 resolution it
doesn't appear though.
Greets,
Tobias Jakobi

the leaves are flat black...
Affects the demo as well as all retail versions of the game.

Tried wine 1.5.17, 1.5.19, 1.4.1 kernel 3.7.0-rc3 3.7.1 mesa 9.1-git, 9.0 in
this order.
Running d3d application randomly crashes. No debug info is generated. I cannot
find any information on debugging crashes that do not trigger the debugger.
The crash seems to be related to some locations that contain more objects but I
cannot tell if rendering particular object or effect triggers it or if
rendering many objects at once causes trouble or something completely
different.
I cannot downgrade to earlier Mesa due to driver vs hardware incompatibility. I
suspect the issue is driver related but wine provides no debug info whatsoever.
Application is stable on windows.

seems to be crashing randomly. I played the first few missions and it was
crashing at different times, not when movies were being played or changing from
field / battle scenes. So I loaded up the menu and walked away for around
30mins. when I came back it crashed again.
I'm using aali's opengl driver
with the squaresoft 1.2 patch
Everything else seems to work fine

This has happened to me a few times, which caused me to downgrade to wine
version 1.1.29 in hopes that since it was the most stable version, that it
won't happen. The problem is such that sometimes I get a clothing patch error
in World of Warcraft, such as robenorthrend read error, or this time, can't
read Kalimdor_33_21.adt
I've attached the whole report I got from running WoW via konsole. This is
preventing me from playing my characters online. You guys know of any
solutions? No matter what version I go to, I get some kind of a read error.
Just in case, I'm using:

Yes, this is still relevant. Google Pinyin is the most important Chinese input
method today, it is significantly better than alternatives and it is used by
many Chinese people for their own input needs.
(There's a port of the open source Google Pinyin Android IME to Linux, but it
may not even be derived from the same codebase as Google Pinyin, so I'm not
sure how good it is, and it is still a work in progress:

Summary: StarCraft: keyboard shortcut doesn't work with french
keyboard (azerty)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.0
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: yann(a)droneaud.fr
Starcraft allows setting groups of units and assigning them to a number using
CTRL+# (# : 0..9) and recalling them using the number.
In StarCraft game, see Help -> Keystroke Help:
Ctrl-# - Save Group #
# - Recall Group #
Under MS Windows, keystroke works well even with a french keyboard, but under
wine it doesn't work.
On french keyboard (azerty), number are enabled with the shift key, but trying
to use CTRL+SHIFT+# doesn't work either.
If I switch my keyboard to US using command such as
"setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout us", those keystrokes work as expected.
This problem related to keyboard mapping may not affect only StarCraft, but
some others games / softwares as well.

crash error log - Thief (Gold edition)
I installed Thief - the Dark project using wine 1.6. and installed the TFix
patch. This kinda worked, but very low frame rate, and crashed on fire arrow
detonation. Upgraded wine to 1.7.15, and ran very well, good frame rate, and
only sometimes froze on exiting. Updated to wine 1.7.16, and now crashes on
opening. error report is attached. Will now try re-installing with 1.7.16, see
if that improves it.

Projects like DosBOX or ScummVM allow choosing a scaler algorithm which
increases the size of fixed resolution games with beautiful results. Here's a
nice comparison picture of one of the algorithms:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hqx
I'm aware that this slows Wine down as long as the feature is activated, but
this is only used for very old games anyway (newer ones run on different
resolutions anyway) with no 3D, like "classic" RPGs. Since this is not a
problem on modern PCs with e.g. DosBOX I thought this would be a very nice
addition for Wine as well.
What do you think?

Bug #: 30115
Summary: Perfect World: Skills and items icons messed up
(regression)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.26
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

CC: hverbeet(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Regression SHA1: a84275075d4a20a9a7f42eda01585d34f31b56d4
It is a well-known regression that had been reported ages ago to APPDB, but it
seems that no one had took care to proceed with the regression testing so far.
The problem manifests itself as the all in-game icons representing items inside
the inventory or skills in hotbars/learning trees/e.t.c. - are "messed up".
"Messed up" in this case means that, for example, for an item "sword" you would
got displayed anything else other than "sword" icon.
This problem is actual with latest Wine (1.4), and seems to affect all the
localized versions of PW out there: I've seen complaints about this bug
affecting PW International on APPDB PWI page, I've seen complaints about messed
up icons on Chinese forums, e.t.c. The regression testing I had done had been
held using localized Russian version of PW client (by Mail.Ru, downloaded from
pw.mail.ru). Unfortunately I can't repeat the test using international version
as IPs belonging to AS located in Russia are region-restricted from
registration/playing on PWI servers.
This regression is a bit tricky and it was a bit hard to cut the things down to
a single commit id. Problem with straightforward bisecting is as follows: the
game works OK up to but not including commit a8427507. Starting with commit
a8427507 and up to but not including commit 156d24c6 the game refuses to start
hanging early during startup process and displaying so-called "red traffic
light" bugreporting dialog box. From commit 156d24c6 onward the game starts up
but with icons messed up.
Checking out commit 156d24c6, and then reverting commit a8427507 using "git
show a8427507 | git apply -R --" fixes an issue making icons to be displayed as
they expected to be. Checking out any revision in-between a8427507..156d24c6
and trying to compile and run the game with is "as is" results in game hang on
startup. Checking out any revision in-between a8427507..156d24c6, reverting
commit a8427507 and compiling wine results in the normal game startup and
correct skills/items icons.
Just for completeness, here is "git bisect" results:

Hello.
I have to gentoo amd64 systems and the problem occurs only on one of them.
they both have basically the same hardware besides that the problem that the
keyboard not responsive problem occurs as a GFX card GTX 660.
the problem occurs randomly. sometimes right from the beginning of running
Diablo and sometimes after playing several minutes.
the problem occurs almost all the times the I had a chance to play on that
specific computer.
the keyboard becomes non-responsive. and it seems that buttons are auto-clicked
randomly. sometimes I need to press a button 10-20 times for it to be actually
exeacuted. and sometimes that doesn't help either.

When trying to use Steam in Wine, there was no text, making the program
impossible to use. I googled this and found that disabling dwrite fixes the
problem. The only thing is, it didn't actually fix anything. I started Steam
with Wine using -no-dwrite and there was still no text. I then entered regedit
with Wine and created DWriteEnable, setting it to 0. This didn't help either,
Steam still had no text. Please tell me whether there's anything I can do, as
this is the only solution I've found, and it doesn't work for me. Should I
reinstall Steam using -no-dwrite? Anyway, this is highly irritating, I expect
Wine to be able to run the few Windows programs I need properly, otherwise I'm
ditching GNU/Linux all together, or finding out whether there's any alternative
to Wine. My hopes aren't high for the latter. If this is unsolvable, I'm
extremely disappointed with Wine.

Hi,
So this is an issue I encountered with every wine wrappers (I tried with wine
bottler, crossover and playonmac, wineskin etc....).
So it's seems like something with wine.
I installed a software called Construct 2 from Scirra. Install perfectly
worked, and the software is basically working correctly unless a major thing.
I can't save file in this software and can't open files (open files crashes)
neither.
Same thing if I drag and drop a file.
This occurring from the release 148 of this software, before 147 : all was
working well.
You'll be able to find releases and change log here
(https://www.scirra.com/construct2/releases/r148 or r147)
Considering the developer :
"We updated to the latest version of BCGControlBar (by BCGSoft). IIRC there
have not been any important changes to the save/load code for a long time, so I
would expect it's some side-effect of Wine lacking support for various
features."
Considering the change log of this release, the devs talked about something
which may help you to find what's the problem (please let me know if you need
logs or something like that):
"We had previously been using the UI library that ships with Visual Studio.
However we were surprised to find it was way out of date - last updated in
2007! We've gone directly to the vendor and gotten the latest, greatest, 2013
edition of the UI library. It comes with several new themes including new
Office 2010 and Office 2013 themes, as well as Visual Studio 2010 and Visual
Studio 2012 themes. These themes bring a much more modern appearance to the
editor, and we've chosen Office 2010 Silver as a fresh new default. The image
below shows the old Windows 7 style (above) with the new default Office 2010
Silver theme (below):
New Construct 2 theme with r148
For backwards compatibility, the first time you open r148 it will set your
theme to the new Office 2010 Silver style. However if you prefer you can change
it to something else via the View ribbon tab. The old 'Windows 7' style is
still available, but is now called Scenic.
The new UI library provides us with lots more options in terms of features, as
well as six years of bug fixes. If you've ever had any minor suggestions for
the UI, now would be a good time to raise them again. However despite our
testing, it's possible there were backwards-incompatible changes that we
missed. Some new things may actually be broken or slightly different. Let us
know if you find anything you think is a problem."

I change in 'System Settings/Printer Configuration/Local Printers/' printer
orientation to landscape and to fit to printable area, it worked,
but now only half of the page is seen, other half is outside of paper
Bottom of drawing is on middle of paper, so size of drawing is correct, but it
is on wrong spot
The paper size is right .
In windows my program works fine. I am dumping whole drawing (or screen) to
printer

Hi,
So this is an issue I encountered with every wine wrappers (I tried with wine
bottler, crossover and playonmac).
So it's seems like something with wine.
I installed a software called Construct 2 from Scirra. Install perfectly
worked, and the software is basically working correctly unless a major thing.
I can't save file in this software and can't open files (open files crashes)
neither.
Same thing if I drag and drop a file.
BUT, in this software, you can create sprites, and there is a sprite editor
which allows you saving in png. I tried and it works - So the problem come from
the open and save software's files.
I asked to the developers but they are helpless.
Hopefully someone here could help me.
sorry for my english !

--- Comment #1 from Anastasius Focht <focht(a)gmx.net> ---
Hello Robert,
you have definitely multiple problems your Wine installation.
I suggest a clean reinstall using recent Wine and updated graphics drivers.
You are _not_ running CoD:MW3 multiplayer which would be 'iw5mp.exe' - the log
shows the crashing process is 'iw5sp.exe'.
Regarding logs ... I'm not sure, but what part of "Please do not PASTE logs and
back traces (create an attachment below, instead)." besides the BIG RED STOP
SIGN was unclear?
Multiplayer works fine with recent Wine (I tested this).
The single player crash looks like a variant of bug 32515

console output from wine for Avalon
While running Siege of Avalon (chapter 1) the sound / background music will
start playing, but within a few minutes in the game the sound "wobbles" and
then shuts off entirely. I don't know enough about the sound system in wine to
determine which of these is an appropriate sound related entry, so I'll attach
all of the console output for a 5 minute play.
The sounds go badly quickly when opening a gate, such as on the southern side
of the courtyard.
I have tried launching the game through DTMain1.exe and DTLoader.exe. Both
sometimes hang after a few seconds of the intro.

I believe that I am still running into the same issue with 1.7.16.
Working with kubuntu linux 13.10 64 bit.
In application LTSPICE IV (namely scad.exe) everything that should be printed
in a monospaced font is totally unreadable, as chars run one onto the other.
Application can be downloaded at
http://ltspice.linear-tech.com/software/LTspiceIV.exe
To test:
1) Install the application in wine
2) Start the application
3) File->New Schematic
4) View->SPICE Netlist
The result is also attached. Clearly, with an empty schematic the text is very
short and even with the bad rendering of the monospace font, you can still read
the content. When you have a large schematic, the text has many long lines and
becomes unreadable.
This is particularly unfortunate as the application strives to be wine friendly
and explicitly advertises wine.
Please advice if it is a different issue, so I can open a new bug.

Still an issue, but I don't know if I'll ever get back to trying to debug it.
The workaround is to kill the process and start it up again. If you want to
close it out, I'm fine with that. If I ever to get back to trying to track this
issue down, I'll open up a new bug report.

With wine-1.1.35-105-gd4a7a9d, when the color picker in the What Colour program
is selected, moving the mouse outside the What Colour's client area doesn't
result in any color selection changes until the mouse is pressed, causing the
application to finally grab the color under the mouse cursor by presumably
taking a "screenshot" of the desktop area. On Windows XP, this "screenshotting"
behavior happens first, made obvious by a brief, visible change in the screen,
and then moving the color picker over the area outside the What Colour client
area shows active changes in the color selection, which is only halted when the
mouse is pressed.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3591
--- Comment #25 from Bernhard Reiter <ockham(a)raz.or.at> ---
For py2exe to also work, I think there should be another loop iterating over a
DLL's functions, nested in the one mentioned in the previous comment, and which
invokes StatusRoutine with Status set to BindImportProcedure, and with the
current function's name as Parameter.
BTW, I think I have found out the crucial function required to implement this
to be ImageDirectoryEntryToDataEx [1] (with dir set to
IMAGE_DIRECTORY_ENTRY_IMPORT). Similar iterations like the ones sketched here
seem to be found in fixup_imports() (in dlls/ntdll/loader.c) or
dump_dir_imported_functions() (in tools/winedump/pe.c, though that isn't using
win API functions).
So I've tried to implement what I've described in this comment and the previous
one, but unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out the very first part
required: obtaining something that can be used as the "base" parameter for
ImageDirectoryEntryToDataEx from the ImageName string passed to BindImageEx.
I've tried LoadLibrary(ImageName), LoadLibraryExA(ImageName, NULL,
LOAD_LIBRARY_AS_DATAFILE), and MapAndLoad(), but unfortunately, all of them
seem to either import all the PE's symbols in a fashion that collides with the
already loaded ones (in particular in a python-freezing context, like running
"wine C:\\Python27\\python.exe setup.py build" with the test case attached to
this bug report), or not load them in a way that can be used for
ImageDirectoryEntryToDataEx. Maybe someone can help me figure out how to do
this...

This was installed via Steam in a clean wine prefix. The wine version is recent

Other Steam games work OK, for example Far Cry 3.
The game (or steam) installs DirectX on each startup -- I'm not sure if that is

Screenshot from Mofiki's Autoclicker Premium Edition v1.0.0.3
Hi. First i want to say that this is not the only autoclicker i've tried.
AutoClick v2.2, AutoClickerPRO v2.5 and Auto Clicker by MurGee.com, to name a
few, is other autoclickers i've tested. None of those is able to (for example)
doubleclick at the Computer icon at the desktop. The attached screenshot taken
from Mofiki's Autoclicker, show the cordinates where the Computer icon is
located, and that the Double Click option is active. Those autoclickers just
somehow doesn't get allowed to pass through their clicks, or what now can be
blocking the choosen clickmode. I can atleast see that the cursor moves to the
given cordinates, and then nothing more. The idealclicker i would like to work
in Wine, is AutoClickerPRO (by valissoft), but the official webpage have been
down for a year or more now though. Will there be any autoclicker for Wine,
which is able to work with it completely, or is there just any modification
that can be made to the current version of Wine ? It would bring me lucky
tears, if it would at least do one single click for me.. :)
Thanks in advance, and bows'n'bends to the clever creative people (that have
been involved) and that nowadays are involved in this nifty project!
Working solutions are truly worth donating to.

https://bitbucket.org/anthony_tuininga/cx_freeze/src/de3e8865616a1048d17e95…http://sourceforge.net/p/py2exe/svn/HEAD/tree/trunk/py2exe/source/py2exe_ut…
In both cases, BindImageEx is called with BIND_NO_BOUND_IMPORTS |
BIND_NO_UPDATE | BIND_ALL_IMAGES as Flags, which I think means that no actual
changes to the image's virtual address table are done, but they're only used to
determine which DLLs are used by the image.
So for cx_Freeze, it would be apparently enough for Wine's BindImageEx stub to
iterate over all DLLs whose functions are used by the image, i.e. the exe or
dll passed as the ImageName parameter, and call StatusRoutine with the Reason
parameter set to BindImportModule, and DllName set to the DLL, while the
"Parameter" and "virtualAddress" arguments aren't required for it to work. The
part I don't know yet is how to get the list of DLLs required by the Image, but
I suppose that some function in dlls/ntdll/ (maybe loader.c ?) could be used to
do that. (It can't be that hard anyway as it's possible to display them by
running i686-w64-mingw32-objdump -p myimage.exe)
(Py2exe also requires StatusRoutine called with BindImportProcedure as Reason,
and will in that case check if Parameter is set to PyImport_ImportModule before
it does something, so that's possibly a little bit more complicated to
implement.)
I'm now hoping for some Wine guru to pick this up and implement BindImageEx as
described above so that at least cx_Freeze will work...

When starting World in Conflict, the game complains about insufficient system
capabilities (Windows Version (no matter what is set in winecfg), available RAM
and "appropriate" 3D card).
Fortunately the game can be told to start anyway but the graphics options are
then severely restricted. This can be mitigated somewhat by using a native
dxdiagn.dll but SM3.0 water shaders are still not available then. See the
riviera screenshot in the game's AppDb entry and compare it e.g. to
http://uk.media.pc.ign.com/media/821/821566/img_4763025.html on Windows.
Attached is a +relay,+snoop log of the game up to the point when it complains.

Test case
Hi,
This is forwarded from http://bugs.debian.org/741592
The printf documentation states that "%#x" prepends 0x for non-zero values
only, but the Wine implementation prefixes 0x for zero too:
$ cat t.c
#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
int val = 0;/* zero */
fprintf(stdout, "value=%#x\n", val );
return 0;
}
$ i686-w64-mingw32-gcc t.c
$ wine32 a.exe
value=0x0
The resulting executable prints
value=0
when run on Windows.
Regards,
Stephen

The issue I experienced when attempting to load the game is described here :
http://www.whatwasithinking.co.uk/2008/10/08/brothers-in-arms-hells-highway…
.
In this how-to, they suggest to update/reinstall the graphics drivers and the
PhysX module. My graphics driver is already updated to the latest (nvidia
190.42), and I fetched the latest bundle for the PhysX software. DirectX is
automatically installed by the game, I therefore used winetricks to make sure I
had the latest DX9 bundle. Despite that, I still get the same error message.
I browsed furthermore and have been refered to this :
http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?p=1379618#post1379618 .
This seems quite unusual to me, therefore before I test this, I would like to
have some feedback on the solution proposed.
I have uploaded my console output, if it can help.

The game was downloaded from gog.com and installed into a fresh WINEPREFIX. It
runs fine and the intro scenes are faultless but when the game itself starts
the graphics are corrupt and the game is just about unplayable.
I've tried it with fullscreen and windowed mode, selecting different
resolutions and colour depths in the game's options, and the corruption is the
same. It's difficult to describe the corruption so I'm going to attach a
screenshot showing a time when the corruption is really bad (mostly it's just
the characters which are warped and/or flickering).

Hello folks,
found this while investigating some issues with Aeria Game Launcher
(https://www.aeriagames.com/playnow/ignite).
Aeria requires .NET Framework 3.5 installed.
After applying 'wintricks -q dotnet35' recipe to a fresh 32-bit WINEPREFIX the
'Aeria Ignite' installer silently fails.
The reason is that some folders such as '%USERPROFILE%\\Application Data' are
completely missing and the installer fails to put some files below that.
Those folders are created during WINEPREFIX creation (wineboot).
Deletion afterwards won't let them get recreated (prefix update).
Further investigation reveals this happens during .NET Framework service pack
recipe runs where products to be upgraded are uninstalled (expected, by
design).
Example: .NET Framework 2.0 -> .NET Framework 2.0 SP1

Some folders are essential for many installers/apps.
Deletion will cause subtle problems on further software installations (the
actual apps) or at run time.
Especially true for:
'%USERPROFILE%\\Application Data'
'%USERPROFILE%\\Local Settings\\Application Data'
Those are precious and need to be preserved.
On Windows this scenario never happens because there always exist dozen of
subfolders below by default.
A quick fix would be the creation of (empty) subfolder below, for example
'Microsoft' which is present on all Windows systems by default.
This prevents the deletion of the parent.
Another option is to fix bugs like bug 34910 which needs
'%USERPROFILE%\\Application Data\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Themes\\' folder present,
which would automatically thwart the folder deletion attempt.

Summary: Dead Space resolution issues
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.11
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: H3g3m0n(a)gmail.com
When first starting the game, the maximum resolution available for me is
1360x768 (there are also many multiple entries each resolutions with whole wide
range of different frequencies, about 6 entries for each resolution).
When I quit the game, the desktop resolution and gamma fail to revert to
normal.
If I manually set the desktop resolution using the nvidia-settings tool then go
back into the game I can now select my native 1920x1200 (It jumps strait from
the end of the lower resolutions 1360x768 to 1920x1200 with no other
resolutions in between). (I'm not sure if this is the result of
nvidia-settings, of it it just happens to work after restarting multiple times
and screwing with the settings).
The gamma still fails to return to normal levels, opening nvidia-settings
(without needing to change any settings) fixes it.
I'm running on a Nvidia GTX260. Ubuntu 10.10.
Other people are reporting similar problems with the resolution choices.
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=14457
Another possible, untested work around if someone can't fix the resolution is
to manually edit:
~/.wine/drive_c/users/<YOUUSERNAME>/Local Settings/Application Data/Electronic
Arts/Dead Space/settings.txt
And set:
Window.Width = 1920
Window.Height = 1200
Window.Hz = 150

When I upgraded from 1.1.11 to 1.1.13 the fog in-game is messed up. Outside it
is a medium fog and if you go inside somewhere it is a nearly total fog. If you
go into the in-game settings menu and adjust the fog slider you will see it
affected but it is still unplayable indoors in this condition.
Going back to the previous wine version works. I also today installed wine
1.11.15 and the same bug is present still.

Interestingly the 'account' button is displayed correctly in both.
'winetricks gdiplus' works around.

Terminal doesn't yield much useful information (no fixme's/errors related to

There is another 'transparency' issue (see window borders), unrelated to

Summary: Touch screen loses calibration when in full screen

When running AtomixMP3, and other WINE apps, in full screen mode the
touchscreen goes way out of calibration, which is important for this program
specifically and how i use it. In un-maximised mode it works fine.
If it helps this program will not operate at all (display to be used anyway) in
full screen mode in VirtualBox, but again fine when in un-maximised mode.
A demo version is available here fore testing:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1640537/Link%20to%20Atomixmp3.exe
I have searched various forums and have fond no clue towards a solution. ie, I
have no idea if it's a bug or something that is easily configurable. I have
played with WINE config settings and screen resolutions with no success.
I tried changing my x screen resolution to 800 x 600 (normally 1680 x 1050) and
noted that the calibration is the SAME as the WINE app in full screen mode,
with the pointer very biased towards the left side of the screen.
Please advise, would love touch screen to work properly in full screen mode.
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Guy Newman

ReportedBy: eric.ladner(a)gmail.com
The "distant impostors" setting has no effect. The way it implements distant
impostors, I believe, is substituting a flat 2d texture for 3d objects that are
very far from the camera, giving more detail to the landscape without having to
render 20 million polys for the trees.
See
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/group/?app_parent=4029;foru…
(second post from the top) for screen shots comparing LotRO running on Wine and
Windows and the difference "distant impostors" makes.
I've verified that it doesn't work on 1.1.24 and 1.1.25 (although 1.1.25
crashed a lot for me on LotRO for some reason and I had to revert back to
1.1.24).
I'd be happy to provide any extra debugging info if any would be helpful.

now with bug 35109 fixed the game runs into next problem.
After the main process 'LANoire.exe' has started an error dialog window is
shown, stating:
"Error: DX94: Graphics card capabilities are below the minimum specifications."
It was actually a bit of pain to diagnose/debug because of several processes
involved which are (re)started in sequence with the actual timing being
important.
There are only very small time windows for attaching debuggers, if you miss
them -> boom (avoid 'auto' debugging of childs from parent).
Additionally, these processes are a mixture of native binaries, .NET binaries
and mixed-mode binaries somewhat complicating diagnosis further (unmanaged code
with various managed code transitions in the same process).
Relevant part of trace log, showing processes involved:
NOTE: Don't redirect to files located within Steam folder to avoid
unnecessarily triggering the directory watcher thread(s).

After dumping, rebuilding and analysing the main executable + trace log for
some hours I finally deduced the place where the problem originated.
The d3d calls from trace log are register indirect calls which requires a
debugger to identify the actual call site at run time.
Additionally some of them are hooked at through Steam gameoverlay renderer.

--- snip ---
The error dialog window is created from .NET code (windows form), along with
some unusable callstack display (another bug).
The actual reason for the problem is not visible in trace log, one has to
analyse and step the disassembly.
d3d9_device_GetDeviceCaps() returns D3D9 Device Caps structure.
The engine code checks several caps struct members to decide if the card is
'good'.
My card 'NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M' was not recognized (bug 35054) hence Wine's
default choice was taken: 'Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX'.
The minimum video card requirements for this game (from website): "NVIDIA
GeForce 8600 GT 512MB" ... so even with the default (incorrect) choice it
should have been 'good'.
Each time a requirement is not met the game internally assigns an error code
'DX<two-digit-code>' which is translated to a more or less generic error
message.
DirectX caps checks (in order):
--- snip ---
VertexShaderVersion
my raw value: 0xFFFE0300
good value: >= 3.0 (masked out)
failure: "DX92: Shadermodel 3.0 required"
--- snip ---
--- snip ---
PixelShaderVersion
my raw value: 0xFFFF0300
sanitized good value: >= 3.0 (masked out)
failure: "DX93: Shadermodel 3.0 required")
--- snip ---
Now the important one ...
--- snip ---
MaxVertexIndex
my raw value: 0xFFFFF
good value: 0x555555 (5592405 decimal)
failure: "DX94: Graphics card capabilities are below the minimum
specifications."
--- snip ---
Wine uses a hard-coded default value.

4446 caps->MaxStreams = MAX_STREAMS;
4447 caps->MaxStreamStride = 1024;
...
--- snip ---
Increasing the limit to 0x555555 made the game DirectX engine happy :)
There were a few other dx caps checks following but those requirements were
fulfilled by default.
***
Interesting tidbit:
There exists a kind of hack to overcome the failing dx caps check without
modifying Wine code.
During dumping/analysis of the main binary I found several 'goodies' ->
semi-/undocumented command line parameters.
One of them is '-disablecrashhandler'.
You can pass it through launcher 'command line' options dialog.
This basically skips the invocation of the .NET based error handler and lets
the game engine code continue as if nothing happened.
Having this kind of 'override' in actual code is usually disastrous.
Due to the special way the requirement checks were coded this 'magically'
works.
Each invocation of error handler leads to a no-return 'continuation' like call.
The next prerequisite check immediately follows the no-return call (without
branches in between).
Disabling the crash handler made the no-return calls basically a no-op hence
letting the execution flow 'magically' continue.
***
The game runs further until next problem ... looks like some wined3d volume
texture/surface management thing (that area is currently being worked on).

The game starts up, sound is working and I can enter my login and password.
After that it is trying to run the WebPatcher.exe (I guess this works using
COM).
WebPatcher.exe crashes and T4C is stuck displaying "Please wait while we look
for Patches. This may take a few seconds".
As a workaround I can run the game with "T4C nopatch.exe", but this only works
because I happen to have the latest version.
T4C reports its version as "1.71 R.037".
The 1.71 client can be downloaded here:

Moving this window inside the virtual desktop restores the black behavior.
Looks like the black is the background and the store is a child that's not

Bug #: 33281
Summary: Bioshock infinite fails to use TaskDialogIndirect
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: andras(a)sth.sze.hu
Classification: Unclassified
Bioshock Infinite fails to use TaskDialogIndirect from comctl32, because in
it's imports table there are by ordinal and by name function link.
I think wine tries to resolve it by ordinal (345), and fails, because our
comctl32 does not have this ordinal link (and as far as I looked windows'
neither has it too)
This bug is not same as #24580.

Summary: Screen update problems on Counter Strike: Global
Offensive
Product: Wine
Version: 1.7.14
Hardware: x86
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d

Regression SHA1: 4c4552c5a1910a9d5adf8eccff0ac62d89ffe376
A new regression:
While playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive (other source engine games might
also be affected; did not test yet), it runs fine at first, but if I alt-tab
out of it and back several times, the game starts stuttering a lot and the
*apparent* framerate drops several times.
Even though it looks as if the framerate plummeted, the in-game FPS counter
keeps showing a normal framerate, i.e. there is no framerate drop from the
game's point of view. GPU load also remains the same, too. Thus, this leads to
believe that rendering is still done normally, but Wine doesn't flip / update
the screen properly, leading to stuttering and apparent framerate drop.
After some testing, I found that reverting this patch makes the problem go
away:
commit 4c4552c5a1910a9d5adf8eccff0ac62d89ffe376
Author: Ken Thomases <ken(a)codeweavers.com>
Date: Wed Feb 19 16:14:53 2014 -0600
wined3d: Restore the pixel format of the window whose pixel format was
actually changed.
I also tried it with the patch from bug #35705 - It did not help at all, so it
is possibly a different bug.
Judging from its description, it does not seem that bug #35655 would the same
bug, either.
With the bug triggered, I did not see any errors / warnings / fixmes that were
not present with the bug NOT triggered, even with +d3d on. So, I am not sure
whether posting debug output would be of any use.
Although it in itself is unsupported, to shed more light on the matter, I
should also mention about the behavior of this bug when encountered on Wine
with Stefan Dösinger's CSMT patchset:
Everything is the same, except the game is stuck on showing one frame that was
drawn right before triggering the bug. Which *visually* makes it seem as the
game has hanged. Leaving game like this for longer amounts of time, I can see
that it then flips / updates the screen approximately once every one minute
[leading to 0.016 frames per second, effectively]. Sometimes, after waiting a
minute or two, graphics start updating / working normally again, but that lasts
for fifteen seconds tops and it gets stuck on showing one frame again.
