Summary: W-buffer not well handled
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.32
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: nikos42(a)gmail.com
There are some minor display problems in Mafia. In particular, at the very
beginning of the demo, when people are sitting around a table, their eyeballs
seem to pop out of their heads. This is probably due to the fact that Mafia
uses a W-buffer, while Wine handles it as a Z-buffer (this can be seen in
dlls/wined3d/state.c).
Moreover, I get this fixme message:
fixme:d3d:state_zenable W buffer is not well handled
Would it be a lot of work to add support for a W-buffer in Wine? (the
WGL_EXT_depth_float OpenGL extension might be used)

Tested version was both the newest available (07.0026 as of today) as some
older versions.
When run, it displays some splash screens, and in the console window there is
"Segmentation fault" error message.
The same version runs OK on the same machine but with WinXP OS.

I took over maintainership of this game
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=15060) because I
want to get it running on OpenSolaris and it seems it worked at some point on
Linux.
Despite the appdb report I had to install d3dx9 via winetricks to get the game
running at all. I have an NVIDIA graphics card using the proprietary drivers
(glxinfo output attached).
A recent GIT build additionally has the regression that the background image in
the menu screens is not shown (this works in 1.1.26, output attached).
To reproduce the crash simply start the game and start the demo (press return a
couple of times).

I can open and edit Spice models and circuits without problem, but when I run a
circuit simulation LTSPICE IV will crash after about 10 to 30 seconds.
The simulation actually works. I do see what I expect for some seconds.
It seems to crash faster with multiple simulation nodes but I have to say it is
apparently random. Best I've seen is about 30 seconds, worst about 1 second.
attached the error message. Please direct me to suitable logs if you require

'An unknown error has occurred in file "Artweaver.exe",
(Error: 300000)'
This error code is mentioned in the FAQ of Artweaver, it's something about
Windows Root Certificates:
http://artweaver.de/help-en/Frequently-Asked-Questions/start-fails-with-err…
It seems this error was present in certain Artweaver versions under Windows,
but should be fixed after Artweaver 3.0. I tested with Artweaver 3.1.2 btw.
'winetricks crypt32' is a workaround.
Reverting the following commit on Wine 1.5.15 fixes the problem and Artweaver
can start (furthermore it needs Tahoma and Times fonts but that's unrelated to
this problem):

Summary: winmm/msacm: Improper shutdown sequence

winmm, msacm, tid trace of shutdown, including backtrace
How to reproduce with source code:
Use my MCI shell (bug #20232, comment #10), play a .wav involving the
MSACM (i.e. not a linear PCM file, but e.g. an ADPCM encoded one) then
end the shell application while it's playing.
play 11kadpcm.wav # auto-open
ctrl-Z/ctrl-D # end the program while music plays
Native does not crash and stops the music.
The attached log shows how upon exit, Wine first detaches msacm -- while winmm
is still playing -- then the MCI from within winmm. Closing the MCI device
causes Wine to crash in acmStreamUnprepareHeader when indirectly invoking the
MSACM codec that handles the file.
trace:msacm:DllMain 0x7e210000 0x0 0x1
trace:msacm:acmDriverClose (0x740598, 00000000)
trace:winmm:DllMain 0x7e820000 0x0 0x1
trace:mci:MCI_Close (ffffffff, 00000002, (nil))
The console EOF bug #24306 currently shadows this bug when using the MCI shell,
so use wine-1.3.1 or older (or write a one-liner mciSendStringA("play
11kadpcm.wav",...);). BTW, in even older versions of Wine (1.0 IIRC), this
scenario would trigger a critical section lock timeout instead of a crash.
Perhaps ACM_GetStream should test the handle like MSACM_GetObj does?
Crashes with (and does not depend on) either OSS or ALSA.

I have Dragon Age: Origins running under wine, along with two pieces of
downloadable content: Blood Dragon Armor and The Stone Prisoner. The game is
properly registered with the Bioware server[1]. Both DLC packages are properly
registered as well[2]. I have installed dotnet (using winetricks) and the
daupdatersvc service is running when the game starts.
As long as I don't log in to the Dragon Age servers, both DLC packages work
just fine. When I log in to the servers, Blood Dragon Armor continues to work,
but The Stone Prisoner stops working and gets marked as "(Unauthorized)" in the
Installed Content window. I will attach screen shots.
I have re-downloaded and re-installed the content, but it didn't help. I have
followed various recommendations in the Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting
FAQ[3], but that didn't help either.
I installed from CD. The problem is present with versions 1.02a and 1.03 of
the game. I have not tried earlier versions.

It is not clear to me what to do next. ERR_get_error() returns 0 and errno == 0

Patch to greatly reduce numerical noise in scanf conversion of doubles and long
doubles
If I compile the test_scanf.c code attached below using "gcc test_scanf.c"
under MinGW/MSYS on wine-1.3.26, I get the following results from running the
a.exe executable that is created by that build under Wine.
bash.exe-3.1$ echo "1.1e-30" |./a.exe
1.1e-30 is input string
1.1000004917384256455392e-030 = 3f9b64f8772f16505258 is long double value
1.1000004917384256198806e-030 = 39b64f8772f16505 is double value

39b64f881a45df44
1.1000004917384256e-030: 16: 1.1000009834770711519501e-030 =
39b64f881a45df42
1.10000049173842562e-030: 17: 1.1000009834770711519501e-030 =
39b64f881a45df42
I annotate the above lines of output to demonstrate what the test application
does.
1. Read a string from stdin (in this case 1.1e-30) and output the result.
2. Transform that string to a long-double value (80-bit floating point) using
sscanf with a format string of "%Le" and output that result in decimal and
hexadecimal. The decimal result (in this case 1.1000004917384256455392e-030)
immediately demonstrates the bad numerical significance loss in sscanf since
the answer has a relative error of ~5e-7 rather than the expected relative
error of order ~1.e-20. The 64-bit mantissa in the hexadecimal representation
of the long double is shifted to the left _on output_ by one bit to simulate
the hidden bit that occurs for double values to make hex comparisons with the
corresponding double in line 3 easier.
3. Transform the string to a double value (64-bit floating point) using sscanf
with a format string of "%le" and output the result in both decimal and
(unshifted) hexadecimal form. The decimal form (of
1.1000004917384256198806e-030) demonstrates a relative error of 5.e-7 rather
than the expected relative error of order of 1.e-16.
4-8. Use sprintf to write the double-precision form of the number to a
character string in rounded form using a precision of "i" where i ranges from
13 to 17. Transform that string to a double value (64-bit floating point) using
sscanf with a format string of "%le" and output the rounded string, the value
of i, and the double result in both decimal and (unshifted) hexadecimal form.
This test indicates how much precision is required for the conversion from
double to a rounded string in order to read back a double that is the same as
the original double. In this case at a precision of 16 and beyond sscanf
provides consistent results, but they are not the same as the original double
because of the large numerical noise in the results from sscanf.
I then applied a patch (attached) to wine-1.3.26/dlls/msvcrt/scanf.h that fixes
this numerical precision issue for conversions of doubles and long doubles by
the scanf family of functions. (Note, wine-1.3.26/dlls/msvcrt/scanf.h and
wine-1.3.28/dlls/msvcrt/scanf.h are identical so this patch should apply for
wine-1.3.28 as well.) What the patch does is make sure all calculations during
the conversion are done in long double precision with results scaled in such a
way that all calculations except a possible multiplication or division at the
last are done with integers stored in long double form. These changes assure
exact results for input numbers between 0 and 2^65 - 1 that can be represented
exactly in long double form, and results with minimal numerical noise in other
cases. Here are the same test results for this patched test case:
bash.exe-3.1$ echo "1.1e-30" |./a.exe
1.1e-30 is input string
1.0999999999999999999835e-030 = 3f9b64f86cb9cefaf7a0 is long double value
1.0999999999999999165078e-030 = 39b64f86cb9cefaf is double value
1.1000000000000e-030: 13: 1.0999999999999999165078e-030 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
1.10000000000000e-030: 14: 1.0999999999999999165078e-030 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
1.100000000000000e-030: 15: 1.0999999999999999165078e-030 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
1.0999999999999999e-030: 16: 1.0999999999999999165078e-030 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
1.09999999999999992e-030: 17: 1.0999999999999999165078e-030 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
The results are vastly improved by the attached patch for the scanf family of
functions. Now the relative numerical error for "%Le" conversion to long
double is reduced from 5.e-7 to 2.e-20 and the relative numerical error for
"%le" conversion to double is reduced from 5.e-7 to ~1.e-16. Furthermore, the
round trip test of converting a double to rounded string form and then back to
double shows exact agreement. (For other tests with repeating decimal input
such as 1.111111111111111111111111111e-30, exact agreement was obtained for a
rounded precision of 16.)
Just as a matter of interest, here are the results for the same test
application (compiled with gcc for Linux) on Linux:
software@raven> echo "1.1e-30" |./a.out
1.1e-30 is input string
1.0999999999999999999835e-30 = 3f9b64f86cb9cefaf7a0 is long double value
1.0999999999999999165078e-30 = 39b64f86cb9cefaf is double value
1.1000000000000e-30: 13: 1.0999999999999999165078e-30 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
1.10000000000000e-30: 14: 1.0999999999999999165078e-30 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
1.100000000000000e-30: 15: 1.0999999999999999165078e-30 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
1.0999999999999999e-30: 16: 1.0999999999999999165078e-30 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
1.09999999999999992e-30: 17: 1.0999999999999999165078e-30 =
39b64f86cb9cefaf
which is identical with the patched wine result except for the 2-digit
exponents.
When I created JPL binary ephemerides (consisting of roughly 1.5GB of doubles)
from JPL ascii ephemerides with my ephcom-2.0.2 software on Linux and on
Wine-1.3.26 built with the attached patch, I got exact agreement between the
double data for the Linux- and Wine-produced binary ephemerides in most cases.
However, 0.04 per cent of the time the double values on the two platforms
differed at the 1.e-16 relative difference level which is consistent with scanf
errors in the two cases differing on average by one in the last bit of the long
double representation. By chance such small differences would propagate to the
double representation (with 11 bits less in the mantissa when counting the
hidden bit) roughly 0.04 per cent of the time. So I feel this patched scanf
family of functions does very well against the Linux equivalent.
I have classified this apparently long-standing bug after a lot of thought as
"critical". The reason for that classification is the scanf family is a
fundamental building block for any platform and the numerical precision of the
scanf family for double values is critical to a lot of applications (such as
ephcom-2.0.2 where I first discovered the issue). One could argue that a
workaround is available (Dan Kegel noted this on the wine-devel list) of using
Microsoft's version of msvcrt.dll rather than the Wine version. So this is not
critical because of the availability of that alternative msvcrt.dll. However,
there is a chicken/egg problem here. Presumably some of those apps that use
the Microsoft version of msvcrt.dll do so because the scanf numerical precision
bug in Wine's version is giving them trouble. Anyhow, applying this patch
going forward is fundamental to Wine as an independent platform so that is why
I chose to use a "critical" classification as a first approximation subject, of
course, to any reclassification Wine developers want to make for this bug.

because ProtocolList entry in

incorrect: under Wine it is of type REG_SZ and contains tcp, under Windows it
is REG_MULTI_SZ and contains both tcp and np.

Gothic 2 + Addon 2.60 is running fine on windows 7 64bit for me. I had to run
Gothic2.exe *twice* and then kill rundll32.exe to make it actually launch.
Vdfs32g.exe seems to work as intended although it causes problems for some
people on windows as you can read around the web.
Maybe there is a bug in wine affecting Vdfs32g.exe, but as you can just ignore
the crash or delete that binary shouldn't we just close this bug and add a note
in the AppDB?

I just installed Gothic 2 (German "Limited Gold Edition") in a clean prefix
with wine-1.5.16 on arch64.
Gothic II (without addon) 1.30:
- Installs fine
- With vdfs32g.exe: Runs fine without music, minor issues concerning
resolution. Vdfs32g.exe seems to be working as intended (Before the game starts
there is a progress bar "initializing" something)
- vdfs32g.exe removed: Still working, no progress bar at startup
- Original CD and no crack used
So version 1.30 can be excluded I guess.
Gothic II (with addon) 2.60:
- Addon installs fine
- Copy protection doesn't work -> NoCD fix (2.6 GERMAN NoCD/Fixed EXE)
When starting the game Vdfs32g.exe crashes immediately: "Program Error, The
program Vdfs32g.exe has encountered a serious problem..."
You can close this window, then the game starts and runs fine.
With Vdfs32g.exe removed the game runs fine, as Xavier pointed out. I can also
confirm that with 'winetricks directmusic' and musicEnabled=1 there is an error
message at startup and the game closes.
I'll test this on Windows 7 tomorrow.

Some of the older strategy games from Paradox Interactive (Europa Universalis

When starting the settings editor in Wine, no visible window is shown and the

those settings can be adjusted manually by editing the settings.cfg file.

Summary: Steam windows move twice as far as they are moved
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.3
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sheeettin(a)gmail.com
(From bug 20865)
Moving any Steam window by its own decorations (never the window manager's)
often results in the window moving twice as far as it should.
Dragging windows to a new position works fine, but on release of the left mouse
button, the window jumps the same distance you moved it beyond where you moved
it to.
This effect occurs most often with short, jerky moves. Waiting before releasing
the LMB may result in proper behavior.
This bug occurs with or without a virtual desktop. However, WITH a virtual
desktop, it DOES occur when resizing. (Without a virtual desktop, resizing
works properly.)

Does gothic2 work with Vdfs32g.exe in a real windows box?
If yes, there is a bug in wine about this binary.
This bug report is unreadable. Different bugs are reported.
Let us focus about Vdfs32g.exe if there is a bug in this binary.

New results :
I was able to load and run the game with the community fixes by removing the
vdfs executables.
- The vanilla version without the CP worked if I removed vdfs32e.exe
- The CP version worked if I removed both vdfs32e.exe and vdfs32g.exe
winetricks directmusic creates the following crash when I run the game with
music either enabled or disabled.
c: failed to initialize sound, MSS reported: Broken waveOut driver - 'buffer
done' flag never set
The console does not reveal anything unfortunately about the reason of this
crash. It is therefore preferable to run the game without the override and
music disabled.

Yes. I get crashes in Vdfs32g.exe all the time, despite using the GOG.com
version and the community 2.10 patch. There is also a Vdfs32 patch for the game
which I tested, the results don't change.
I also tested with and without directmusic installed with winetricks, and with
music enabled or disabled in Gothic.ini.

Quoting next item:
"ASSIGNED
This bug is not yet resolved, but is assigned to the proper person who is
working on the bug."
So combined this basically means there is still no proper person to work on the
bug.

fine): mouse clicks don't register in the main menu thus making the game
unplayable.
I can move the mouse pointer freely on the screen, hovering the cursor over any

effect.
I tried with Wine's fullscreen mode and virtual desktop mode: the same problem
occurs.
The only difference in the terminal log while starting the game that the
following lines are not present in the (working) demo:

Message I get when trying to run Mplus 5.2 under wine
I am a user of Mplus, a statistical software package. For some time and from
versions 4.2 to 5.1, I successfully ran Mplus under wine in Linux.
Unfortunately, the newest version (5.2) no longer runs under wine.
I contacted the authors of Mplus and they indicated that the problem appears to
have arisen due to their use of the latest version of the Intel Fortran
compiler (10.1.025).
At present, I am using version 5.1 of Mplus, though it would be nice to be able
to use the more recent version.
If any more information is needed, I can ask the people who produce Mplus; they
are quite good about supporting their product and this would likely benefit
them as well.

Wine users have had problems with missing mfc42.dll for years as evidenced in
forums and other records. The error reports are not useful and the Wine user,
or would be user, is frustrated at best. Winetricks will not install mfc42.dll
either, reporting a bogus checksum problem. Microsoft is similarly not useful.
A suggested fix is for Wine documentation to explicitly recognize the problem
and provide the required solution or direct the user to it.
In the instant case, fresh Ubuntu 12.04, Wine 1.4 and Winetricks 20120308,
attempting to install Irfanview 433, the solution was to copy mfc42.dll from a
Windows XP system into Wine's drive_c/windows/system32 folder. No installation
required.

KeePass maximized to 1366x678
This is happening on a laptop (1366x768) with external monitor (1920x1080)
setup, running i3wm 4.3.
How to reproduce:
1. make sure smaller resolution display is the only one active
2. launch wine apps, like KeePass and Picasa3
3. connect second, larger resolution monitor
4. run "xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output HDMI1 --auto --above LVDS1
--primary" or equivalent
5. move wine app window to larger display
6. try to maximize wine app window on larger display - observe the window
enlarging, but app display area staying the same as on initial lower resolution
display
Workaround:
1. connect second, larger resolution monitor
2. run "xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output HDMI1 --auto --above LVDS1
--primary" or equivalent
3. launch wine apps, like KeePass and Picasa3
4. maximize and un-maximize now work correctly, on both monitors, even when
you connect and disconnect the external monitor
Obviously it's particularly enjoyable to be able to only launch new wine apps
when the large monitor is connected.
Some example screenshots attached.

Output when running Borderlands2.exe
Overview:
Borderlands 2 cannot be started due to unknown graphics issues.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Create 32-bit wineprefix on 64-bit OS. (Optional: Set VideoMemorySize to
actual value)
2. Install and update Steam (with winetricks)
3. Create "./drive_c/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Borderlands

Actual Results:
The game runs (I can hear the intro sounds), but the screen is black. After the
intro movies the sounds stops and the window becomes transparent. Other windows
on the background cannot be clicked because Borderlands 2 still has focus.

After compiling the latest development of wine from git and running Eve Online
every time I open the in game browser it crashes. The game is still playable
but the browser breaks each time.
This may or may not be related to the lack of libOSMesa 32 bit dev files which
I cannot seem to access in my system (there is no 32 bit architecture version
accessible in my package manager unless I'm missing something).
This isn't game critical but it is rather annoying.

Created attachment 42093
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=42093
terminal output
This is a follow-up to bug #31411.
The installer for the game installs the required msvc* components, so the
problem is reproducible only when msvcp90=builtin.
When using the built-in msvcp90, the game shows a MS VC++ runtime error message
while loading to the main menu then it quits.
The relevant lines in the terminal:
fixme:msvcp:_Locinfo__Locinfo_ctor_cat_cstr (0x8dee56c 1 C) semi-stub
fixme:msvcp:_Locinfo__Locinfo_ctor_cat_cstr (0x8dee61c 1 C) semi-stub
The demo version can be used to reproduce the problem (over 2 GB download
size!):
1. create a new wineprefix, set msvcp90,msvcr90=builtin
2. 'winetricks d3dx9_36' so you don't need to install the whole DirectX package
when the installer asks for it
3. install then start the demo with ../bin/Divinity2.exe. Soon an error message
pops up and the game quits

Screenshot of graphics glitch
When playing the game Starfleet Command (either the full game or the demo), the
graphics of items needing transparency (torpedoes, in-game menu, explosions
etc) have permanent black squares around them, as though lacking transparency.
In particular, if the player's ship flies "inside" of one of these squares
(such as towards an explosion), the ship turns completely blue against the
black square background.
I've attached a screenshot to demonstrate the issue as well as console logs
from the app.

Summary: CCleaner hides cleaner rules by default
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.35
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: comctl32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: RandomAccountName(a)mail.com
Classification: Unclassified
The treeview on CCleaner's cleaner (default) screen doesn't display the cleaner
rules for each application (i.e. which information from that application should
be removed) by default. It only shows the list of supported applications, and
double-clicking an application's name will make its cleaner rules visible.
Another double-click will hide them again.
On Windows XP, it shows these rules by default, and nothing happens when
double-clicking an application name.
Same issue in 1.3.18, 1.2, 1.0.1, and 0.9.33. The terminal output is the same
as attachment 38082. Workaround: winetricks comctl32

Minimising and closing steam by pressing it's own buttons for those functions,

ArtRage starts fine when the installer asks "would you like to run it now", but
after quitting, doesn't restart in the following way:
splash screen appears, then CPU is used but no window appears (in fact a tiny
dot of a window appears in the workspace organiser window in xfce4, but not on
the actual desktop)
Using Xubuntu 12.04 and wine 1.5.5 from the winehq ppa.
WORKAROUND: before quitting the first time, set the window to not-full-screen
from the little window size icons on the right of the top panel inside artrage.
This state appears to be saved on quitting, and then it starts up properly next
time. Just remember never to set it to full screen.

Hi.
This is not exactly a bug, but i think that you should have it in mind. I dont
know how can it be related to wines internal behavior or not.
I only play one game. Tactical Ops 3.5
This game uses Unreal99 Engine.
It works in Wine as a Gold and sadly with at most 30 fps with all builtin.
With only one override it can grow to 70 fps in the same test conditions.
This native is msvcp60.dll
The game runs better with this dll present on the system. I dont know why or
what does this dlls or why the game can run without it but, it does makes a
difference.
I think that this override can improve all Unreal99 based games.
Close this bug if you think that it is invalid. I post to contribute and
documentate to other looking for the same issue.
Cheers.

+dinput log.
Hello,
I've been using wine to play X3:TC under Fedora 14/x86_64 without any major
issues (beyond a number of known issues).
I've upgraded my workstation to Fedora 15 and initially all worked just fine.
However, since yesterday, I can no longer use my joystick under X3:TC.
1. Somehow the axis/POV mapping is all wrong, the viewport is locked to the
bottom right position and I cannot use the POV or keyboard to re-center it.
2. All the other joystick axis (yaw/pitch) seem to be broken as well.
3. The throttle axis seems to be working just fine. (It's a joystick / throttle
combo).
4. The keyboard seems to be generating multiple keyboard events per keypress.
5. The joystick has a "profile" selection knob - which triggers an always
"pressed" joystick button 11, (profile 1), button 12 (profile 2), button 13
(profile 3). Switching profiles changes the direction in which the POV is
locked.
6. If I disconnect the joystick, the POV re-centers, and the keyboard returns
to normal operation.
7. I checked the native version of X3 Reunion (Official LGP release) and
everything seems to be working just fine. (So no kernel / hardware problem).
8. +dinput log attached.
P.S. When playing the Linux version of X3:R I developed a library [1] that uses
pre-loading and _open/_read/_close symbol replacement to modify certain aspects
of my X52 joystick (E.g. mask/disable certain axis/buttons, capture
axis/buttons and turn them into X11 keypress/release events, etc).
Among other things, I used this library to mask out the problematic profile
buttons and turn the POV axis (which behave much more like buttons) into X11
key events.
Can I somehow use the same pre-loading / symbol replacement under wine? It will
help my locate the source of the problem?

Error message
Installer appears to work fine but when attempting to load RebelBetting in
wine-1.5.6-75-g034de95 it immediately fails with the attached error message.
Not sure if this is a dotnet/mono error or not but this is definitely a dotnet
application.
The installer itself claims the necessary components are already installed.
Tried "winetricks dotnet2" but that seemed to error out, and Wine just told me
to install Mono anyway.
No idea how to work around this.

Steam Jamestown's keyboard/mouse input still don't work for me on wine 1.5.13,
vanilla wine with a fresh wineprefix in winxp or win7 mode. It seems to use raw
input. Same story on both Arch Linux and Linux Mint 13. In older versions of
wine, it worked fine with a raw input patch, raw3.patch, available from the now
closed-fixed rawinput thread. Other games that didn't work due to requiring
rawinput before work fine now though, thanks to you guys implementing support
for it (thanks :D).

Project Black Sun is an indie game, developed by Starflower Games.
ProjectBlackSunDemo1.0.2.exe (17 MB download size)
md5sum: c41b66a130b6fce69de8c227333ea5f2
The installer of the game reminds you that the game needs the MS VC++ 2010
runtime libraries.
The game starts fine using the built-in msvc*100 dlls, the menu appears and you
can start a new game. Some intro scenes are shown then comes a loading screen
and the game suddenly quits (without a crash dialog or backtrace).
In the terminal:

Workaround: 'winetricks vcrun2010' (native msvcp100.dll is needed)
Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. install then start the demo with ProjectBlackSun.exe
2. in the main menu select new game, wait until the intro scene is over or
press <Esc> to skip the intro
3. 'Loading...' can be seen in the lower right corner of the screen for a

Getting and installing the program:
Program download on http://utau2008.xrea.jp/ by clicking on the link that says
"v0.2.76 インストーラ"
The program is in Japanese, but there's an English translation here ->
http://utau.wikia.com/wiki/UTAU_wiki:UTAU_GUI_Translation
I installed the program with
$ LANG="ja_JP.UTF-8" wine utau0276inst.exe
It won't work without setting the LANG environment to Japanese, because it
generates the default voicebank with Japanese filenames.
I went forward accepting all the default values.
Then I copied the res folder of the English translation in the installation
directory (the bug happens even without adding the translation, so it's not
related).
Steps to reproduce:
Launch the program like this
$ LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 wine "C:\Programmi\UTAU\utau.exe"
Click the pencil button and place some notes on the piano roll.
Select the notes.
Press the play button.
The program doesn't play any note, and gives a "Failed to generate a wav file.
Please check settings." error message.
No settings I could try managed to solve the problem, but I noticed the program
has a slightly different behavior depending on the value of the "No batch file
for rendering" option in Tools->Option...->General
- With the option checked, the output of the resampler.exe tool (which does
pitch manipulation of the voice samples) is shown in the console and a bunch of
wav files corresponding to the notes are generated in the cache directory.
- With the option unchecked, it doesn't generate any wav file in the cache dir
and tries to execute wavtool.exe (which I believe applies the envelope to the
rendered samples) on wav files that don't exist (probably because the previous
step failed).
Either case, it eventually shows the above mentioned error and it doesn't play
anything.
I have a log file for both cases. The output of Wine and the one of the program
are mixed together in the files, I don't know how to set them apart, sorry.

Try double-clicking a function name in this pane.
You get:

After closing this message you can go on. The function we called positions the
editor at the right place and places focus in the right pane. It works as
expected. The only thing is this message.
This may be connected with windows switching / activating / deactivating as it
is a 2 pane app.
Prerequisites:
After installing the demo app

guidelines from AppDb
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=20710 to properly
configure it for wine. Just 2 simple steps.
Additional info:
The same result as double-clicking can be achieved by clicking once and
following it with the enter key. This does not cause any problems.
Trying to locate the same function name many times doesn't bring the access

It appears only when you try to follow a new function. After that the function
is freed from the annoying message box.
I contacted Jan Goyvaerts, the author of the app. He is familiar with wine and
he says this is a wine bug.
What else can I provide to make it solved? Brothers programmers, this editor is
a powerful crossplatform tool for editing code. It's worth investigating some
time. I spent already several hours to test this bug and report it. Maybe I
should make another report with specific WINEDEBUG options?

I have tested Oblivion 1.2.0416 with many different graphic settings with Wine
1.3.1, 1.3.9, 1.3.22, 1.3.23 and 1.3.24 (it seems Oblivion does not run with
Wine 1.3.25).
The following problem exists in all tested versions:
1. There its some sort of grass that is only temporary visible, it flickers
(also if you stand still in some positions).
2. If you are using magic there are also graphical "grass" artifacts visible at
the target (especially if the spell duration is more than 1 second).
3. If you turn on distant trees this flickering phenomena is also visible with
temporary visible trees everywhere in medium to near distance.
I am no expert but it seems there are some problems with unclean graphic
buffers. Some graphic is applied where it does not belong to and this also
seems to have high impact on performance. On my new AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
graphics board I have at least about 40 FPS with really everything turned on,
as long as I'm not in exterior cells with grass or trees. But in that case I
get only 10 FPS and graphical errors as described above

I'm running Wine on FreeBSD 7.1-RELEASE. I was successfully able to install
Firefox 3.0.10 via wine.
However, in Firefox itself, I cannot enter passwords into any of the HTML
password form fields.
Under any other platform, Firefox displays dots for each character in a
password field, under Wine, nothing is displayed, no matter what key is
pressed.
Under normal HTML text fields, everything is fine.
See the attached screenshot. In the top Gmail login, this was Firefox running
in my OS. I typed 'foo' in the username field, hit TAB, and then typed 'foo' in
the password field.
In the bottom Gmail login, I did the exact same thing, but Firefox was running
through wine. Notice how the same keystrokes show nothing in the password
field.
This is not a display error, if I hit 'submit', the server seems to receive
nothing from the password field.

Selecting a campaign (the training missions) there is sound on the introduction

I am using a USB headset (Micro$oft LifeChat LX-3000) which is selected as my
default output device in OS and also selected for default output in winecfg.
The internal onboard sound card is disabled in bios as it has a Xonar DG card
installed but I never use it as I have the USB headset and no speakers (Mint

I have no problems with sound on other steam games (that I've found so far) and

Bug #: 31962
Summary: Wine configuration update window hangs, new prefix
configured incorrectly.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.15
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: julianmelvynjones(a)gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Wine was working perfectly fine until a few days ago, before I even updated to
1.5.15. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, 64-bit. Clean installation.
Basically, whenever I try to create a new prefix, the folder is successfully
created, and the little 'The Wine configuration in % is being updated, please
wait...' window appears, and then repeatedly stalls, greys out and un-stalls.
The directories appear to be populated and the winecfg window for the new
prefix does eventually open after about 10 minutes, but the new prefix is
inoperable, and winetricks wont run in it.
Terminal spits out the usual fixmes and also one single error I've not seen
before, 'err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out'.
I researched this error and tried a proposed fix, 'wineboot --update', but this
didn't solve the issue either.
Eventually, terminal spits out 'err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception
code c000013a flags 0 addr 0xf7776425', and then appears to start the whole
process from scratch, showing the usual fixme errors.

After the last known raw input bug with Guild Wars 2 was solved (#31702) I
decided to buy it. But on the first start (after my character was created) I
got some troubles with the mouselook. If I'm pressing the right mouse button
and want to look around this works only up to a maximum of ~90° (even a little
less). After this I can't continue looking around in the same direction - but I
can go back to the other direction until it stops again after ~90°.

- I copied all files from the cd into /blub.
- I created a clean wine v1.1.25 environment: WINEPREFIX=/bla winecfg
windows XP
sound turned on with default (ALSA) settings that work for me in other
programs
d: = /blub as type CD-ROM
- I installed the application (ASSIMIL french CD version 3.10): WINEPREFIX=/bla
wine d:\setup.exe
This seems to have worked.
- cd /bla/drive_c/Programme/Assimil/d_fr
- WINEPREFIX=/bla wine Assimil.exe
The program starts.
But when it comes to play sentences that are stored in mp3 files I hear nothing
and see the above error message.
Unfortunately with google I didn't found a lot about it.
I tried several reinstalls with "winetricks vb6run d3dx9 ie6 vc6run" but it
does not work.
Any hint will be highly appreciated!

Many bugs have been marked duplicate of this one. Can the name of the bug be
changed to reflect what needs to be implemented and prevent more dupes to be
created? (software vertex blending?)

Summary: Mouse "lags" and doesn't pick up quick movements.
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.15
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: winex11.drv
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: nheart(a)gmail.com
After installing wine 1.3.15 and running F.E.A.R. (from steam) Mouse ingame
(the menu is fine) is not responsive enough and doesn't pick up fast movements
at all.
Related console output is:
fixme:d3d:state_zfunc D3DCMP_NOTEQUAL and D3DCMP_EQUAL do not work correctly
yet.
I suspect one of Alexandre's commits
winex11: Synchronize the mouse cursor in update_mouse_state.
winex11: Update the window cursor at most once every 100ms if nothing changed.
is the culprit. I'll do a regression testing later to find out exactly the
offending commit.
