Summary: DATALINE Office Demo: install fails - sometimes
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.14
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

ReportedBy: andreas(a)braml.org
Created an attachment (id=25727)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25727)
console output of a crash during install
When testing the install of DATALINE Office Demo on 1.1.36, I noticed that it
crashes Wine. Since it used to work with 1.1.24 (according to my test report
over at AppDB
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=15365), I went off
to run a regression test.
When I was finished, I reverted the patch in HEAD and ran the installer again.
It went through as it did witch 1.1.24.
To make absolutely sure, I ran the installer again, with clean HEAD (and 1.1.36
from the Ubuntu PPA to make sure). And it didn't crash! But then, on second run
(starting from scratch witch a clean .wine) it crashed as before, that is, at
the same point according to the installer's progress bar).
I tried several times, and sometimes the install works, sometimes not. The
number of failed installs is greater though).
So I fear my regression test was useless, since I didn't test the install at
the different points more than once. I could re-run the regression test doing
so, but I might still miss a "bad" one simply by not trying often enough.
I don't know how to test this further, but I attach the console output of a
crash on 1.1.36 for a start.

I'm afraid that the commited fix does not fully resolve the issue as it uses
"clock_gettime()" function to get the elapsed time. To my knowledge such a
function is not available on all supported platforms (MacOS X for instance)
where WINE retains the old behavior.

Summary: Font smoothing doesn't work in Ubuntu except for large

Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.4
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

Whenever I installed wine on Ubuntu (on many machines) since the days when font
smoothing appeared in wine, I've not been able to enable font smoothing.
After some experiments it appeared that despite fonts not being antialiased for
the normal window text, it is antialiased for sample text in font selection
dialog.
Also, it appears that if I select >121 dpi screen resolution in winecfg
Graphics tab, I do get all the fonts smoothed. But of course, in this case the
text is way too large to be usable.
Here's my ~/.fonts.conf: http://pastebin.com/icJbnkiT
As for wine versions, this happens since 1.1.12 up to current versions.

The visual novel, Rewrite, has broken movies as well, although only the MPEG-1
ones as far as I can tell (which there are only a handful of). Installing
quartz + ffdshow doesn't work in this case, nor CCCP or WMP9/10. I don't get
the "MPEG-1 system streams not yet supported message" but I do get this message
instead when a MPEG-1 movie is tried to be played:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {6bf52a52-394a-11d3-b153-00c04f79faa6} not
registered
err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {6bf52a52-394a-11d3-b153-00c04f79faa6}
could be created for context 0x1
The video is basically just skipped, it doesn't crash at least. I don't have
gstreamer support compiled so it shouldn't be an issue there.

It seems that this patch works.
I do not have sufficient knowledge about the ps or pdf specification.

The program installed fine, but then it is impossible to actually run the

There should be two links:
1) Register the next time you start the program
2) Submit your registration data to the server
Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/Lu2di.png
Neither of these links are clickable, hence making the entire program useless.
Update also failed with a blank page, but that's probably another bug(?).

terminal output
There is a strange problem with playing audio during the intro sequences in
Dark Horizon and in Tarr Chronicles (both games use the same game engine).
The game starts with 4 intro videos (3 short logos and a longer introduction
video). When a video ends and the next one begins to play, the audio part of
the previous video keeps playing.
It doesn't matter if I skip the videos or let them play until they finished,
the problem is there.
This results in cacophony when the player finally gets to the main menu.
Sound doesn't work well in mid-game either: I can hear dialogue (radio
chatter), but sound effects and in-game music are missing. What I hear instead
is the audio from the last intro video.
Besides, there is a short, periodical sound in the menus, which I can't
identify where it comes from.
Can be reproduced with the demo too. The demo requires: corefonts (Verdana) and
native d3dx9_36.dll
Videos are in avi format and all but one have the following properties:
Video: VC-1/WMV3 codec
Audio: uncompressed PCM, Stereo, 44,1 kHz
One of the intro videos are in Motion Jpeg with audio sample rate 48 kHz.
I think this could be either a quartz or winegstreamer issue.
Native quartz and devenum dlls don't seem to help:
1. native quartz + devenum and disabled winegstreamer=videos don't play and the
game is erroring out
2. native quartz + devenum and winegstreamer enabled: the first video begins to
play but Wine soon becomes stuck with

Summary: Reason 4,0 display bugs and "out of memory errors"
whilst playing music
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc1
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: stupidcatofdoom(a)gmail.com
Reason 4.0 by Propellerhead Software installs and works well on Linux, however
it seems to have limited access to memory on my box (Ubuntu 8.04 x64, newest
kernel, newest version of WINE, OSSv4 for sound) - after opening around two
files (one after another, not at the same time) and playing them, the program's
GUI stops painting sections of the screen when they update.
The program then begins to throw infinite "Out of Memory" error windows which
prevents the user from being able to close the program (even ctrl+c in console
won't close the program, have to kill manually via another terminal). Program
completely locks up after a while, with none of the GUI being painted. However,
the music playing thread is unaffected and will continue to play the music
without any stuttering or slowdowns or issues playing back samples.
Shortly before I start receiving error messages, these two messages are printed
repeatedly in the console (included here instead of an in attachment as it's
only two lines):
"err:imagelist:ImageList_Create Error creating mask bitmap!"
"err:region:CombineRgn Invalid rgn=(nil)"
The program reports no other error messages.

Energy XT 2.5.1 crashes after a few seconds of recording audio.
This happens whether the selected audio backend is Direct Sound or WineASIO.
This has happened with Wine 1.13, 1.14 and 1.15.
Actually, the problem has started arising with version 2.5.0 of Energy XT;
older versions of Energy XT2 can record flawlessly with any version of Wine
that I have tried.
Some other Energy XT users have reported to be using the program without any
problems, but on my system, the bug happens consistently (though not
systematically).

warcraft 3 reign of chaos debug file - video display problem
System : openSuse 11.4 i586
Gstreamer : bad. ugly and good plugins loaded and gstreamer opengl plugin.
Problem : All video's show black screen, but the sound does play.
Don't really know where to start with this. must be settings I reckon but cant
really get info on it to fix. Also with openSuse (and I think Ubuntu also) the
policy not to distribute codecs that can have license problems it might be hard
to get this working I believe. (Note the sound does play, thus it can link to
Gstreamer if I understand correctly)
Anyways i attached a debug file with the error that occurs, it is I THINK
because it cannot get a codec to decode the video. But please view to see all
errors.
Also will there be possibility for other decoders maybe ? VideoLan is free and
almost plays anything and has alot of libraries ? just a thought.

Before that, the installer extracts M5if32.dll and M5drvr32.exe to the Director

I tried changing chmod for the file.

However, when I installed this for the first time, it just gave me an error.
I attached this log as file name macromedia_backtrace.txt
Secondly, if I choose to ignore this SWDNLD problem, it leads me to another
error.
I also attached the error log for this as backtrace2.txt
Some one made not of this in the app db and also said that version 1.3 has no
problem of this but I thought I would just file this.
Thanks in advance.

Summary: Ahriman's Prophecy messagebox loop with error 80004002
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.27
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: quartz
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: damjan.jov(a)gmail.com
Download http://www.amaranthia.com/downloads/Ahrimans_Prophecy.exe (10 MB)
Install it
Run it
Start a new quest
Walk to the right half of the bookshelf at the bottom right of the house
Press enter or space to collect an item
Walk around and talk to the granny (again with enter or space)
Walk out of the house
*boom*
Window resizes and has infinitely many messageboxes with error 80004002
(E_NOINTERFACE). You have to Ctrl+Alt+F1 and run "wineserver -k" to be able to
use your desktop again.
Some strategic hacks to dlls/quartz/filtergraph.c led me to conclude the origin
of the problem: BasicAudio_put_Volume() calls GetTargetInterface(This,
&IID_IBasicAudio, (LPVOID*)&pBasicAudio), which fails to find the
IID_IBasicAudio (even though the "This" is IFilterGraphImpl, which has
IBasicAudio built-in?). So it returns E_NOINTERFACE, leading to the failure in
the game.

OS: Ubuntu 9.10
With Wine 1.1.42, the sound works fine but no the video. So, I updated to Wine
1.1.43 to try and fix the video and found that sound does not work (neither
does video but that will be another bug). The output from Wine 1.1.43 differs
by one line:
AL lib: alsa.c:675: set access failed: Invalid argument
Hopefully that makes sense to all of you. It seems pretty clean that I can
switch from 1.1.42 to 1.1.43 and reproduce the problem.

The screen is black save cursor, and it just sits there. I'm using a 9800GT w/
260.19.06 drivers. It is configured correctly, other games run, and 3d
acceleration works.
I was using Arch x86_64 and Ubuntu 10.10, the WINE versions I believe were
1.2.1 and 1.3.7. Both received the same error. I'm using no DLL overrides.
I remember these games running perfectly fine my older OS installations, the
only thing that changed was I switched to x86_64 when I got 4GB of RAM. So for
experimentations sake I installed Ubuntu 10.10 32bit.
Everything worked perfectly. I know I'm not the only one experiencing this
problem, that error I posted was actually grabbed from the AppDB, it was posted
by someone else.

Tax time, so tried Turbo Tax 2011 under wine. Installer starts up, then says
it's fixing file/registry permissions. It then attempts to install .NET 4 (so
this is may be blocked by bug 25535).
Instead, I tried mono210, which has .Net 4.0 support:
$ rm -rf ~/.wine
# It wants mfc42u.dll, and there are some vbscript fixme's followed by turbotax
output about not finding the .net directory.
$ winetricks -q mono210 vcrun6 wsh57
# attempt install
$ wine setup.exe
fails, saying:
".NET 4.0 Framework verification failed. Please repair it from the Add/Remove
Control Panel."
Potentially a mono bug, though looking at the terminal output, it's using NTFS
security features, so the bug may be in wine..
Focht, feeling lucky? :)

Savegame to reproduce the crash
Steps to reproduce:
1. Download and install the demo from:
http://www.gamershell.com/download_32652.shtml
2. Change to the game directory (containing kb.exe) and do:
mkdir \$save
3. Put the attached kb_crash.sav savefile to the $save directory
4. Run the game with "wine kb.exe",
click "Load" and select the save from previous step.
Left click on the nearby enemy unit to start combat.
5. Hit the 'b' key to cast a spell,
click on the green skull image (Poison Skull),
click on an enemy unit to target it.
The game crashes displaying an error box with the following message:
.\BMRender\rmode.cpp(3972): DirectX call failed: 64, 64
code=0x80004001 (-2147467263)
Workaround: "winetricks d3dx9"
I discovered the crash with the KB:TL bought from gog.com. Symptoms and
workaround are identical except that the error message refers to
rmode.cpp(3987).
Except for this crash, the game appears to run fine on plain wine 1.5.13.

+seh +relay wine activation.exe (warning: 1Gb extracted)
Dead Space 2 was bought and downloaded via Steam, and is as such up-to-date as
of 2011-05-10. The system is running Kubuntu 11.04 64-bit, with Wine 1.3.19
from the ubuntu-wine ppa (plus winepulse patches). While probably not relevant,
the graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 580 and running the proprietary
270.41.06 driver.
When starting the game it automatically runs activation.exe to activate the
game. However, the activator instantly crashes and only spawns a wine debugging
session that soars to 100% CPU and never exits. The attached log is 1Gb when
extracted, and that's only because I stopped the debugger there and hit Ctrl+C.
It would likely have grown in size until the disk was full.
The game does not get activated and cannot be played.
This may be a duplicate of bug 25853, but the description of that bug lists

Some of the temple of elemental evil overlays 3d over 2D that the game uses for
"advanced" effects like flames, particles and spells are misbehaving in recent
wine versions.
I am using the fglrx driver:
Catalyst™ Version 11.11
Driver Packaging Version 8.911-111025a-128237C-ATI

You can test it in the current version by running the game; waiting a while in

exists they flicker in and out of existence - they almost can't be seen - (or

wined3d: Don't set GL_MAP_UNSYNCHRONIZED_BIT for WINED3D_BUFFER_DISCARD
maps.
WINED3D_BUFFER_DISCARD means the (current) buffer contents are undefined
for
subsequent operations. I.e., the map doesn't have to wait for any pending
operations to finish, and can just return a new buffer with undefined
contents. GL_MAP_UNSYNCHRONIZED_BIT means the driver doesn't wait for
previous
operations to finish, and just maps a buffer that's potentially in use.
Proper
synchronization is left to the application. Note that we set both
GL_MAP_INVALIDATE_BUFFER_BIT and GL_MAP_UNSYNCHRONIZED_BIT.
GL_MAP_INVALIDATE_BUFFER_BIT corresponds to WINED3D_BUFFER_DISCARD, and
might
cause the driver to return a new buffer, but it's not required to make that
optimization.

Nvidia's 270.xx.yy driver series fix the glMapBuffer alignment issues that
caused major

doublebuffered loading, which means that we fall back to the current

is the one currently in the default Debian apt repository (1.0.1).
When installing Medieval: Total War from CD the installer crashes most of the
way through installing the second disk.
I am going through the process of downloading and installing the latest Git
version to see if the issue still exists.

TeamViewer 3 with OS=NT4.0 to workaround bug 12067
All seems to work (except for the unrelated bug 11727) but the chat the other
windows seems to loop (when a connection is active) when many input messages
are sent on this windows (for example when you press 2 or more keys on the
chat). Obviously in windows there aren't problems.
To workaround this in then dlls/user32/message.c
...
break;
case MSG_HARDWARE:
if (size >= sizeof(msg_data->hardware))
{
...
HOOK_CallHooks( WH_GETMESSAGE, HC_ACTION, flags & PM_REMOVE, (LPARAM)msg,
TRUE );
return TRUE;
}
...
I add this check (or you can remove the whole call...)
...
if (flags & PM_REMOVE) <-
HOOK_CallHooks( WH_GETMESSAGE, HC_ACTION, flags & PM_REMOVE, (LPARAM)msg, TRUE
...
and now there aren't problems and it works very well.
I know the patch isn't right, since the WH_GETMESSAGE should return also the
not removed peeked messages but I think there is something wrong with the
hooking system!
Note:
To understand what Teamviewer do I have followed the source code VNCHooks.dll
'cause it's very similar (also with the name and meanings of the registerd
messages).

Patch replacing getpagesize() with sysconf(_SC_PAGE_SIZE)
Tried compiling Wine with the Linux Standard Base SDK (Beta 4), which works
fine, using the following script:
#!/bin/sh
set -ex
PATH=/opt/lsb/bin:$PATH
CC=lsbcc
CXX=lsbc++
LSBCC_SHAREDLIBS=wine
export CC
export CXX
export LSBCC_SHAREDLIBS
./configure
make clean

make
Though you may need to use the following to work around another bug, according
to an old report (didn't verify):
make depend LDFLAGS=-ldl
make LDFLAGS=-ldl CFLAGS="-g -O2 \"-DRTLD_DEFAULT=((void *)0)\" -DMAP_FILE=0"
Once you've done that, try compiling. You'll get a few warnings :-P. First one:
lsbcc -c -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include -D__WINESRC__
-DWINE_UNICODE_API="" -D_REENTRANT -fPIC -Wall -pipe -fno-strength-reduce
-fno-strict-aliasing -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wwrite-strings

I've patched most of them, but didn't touch the configure stuff, wasn't sure
how to handle it. Seems like Alexandre's area of expertise...
These are the areas that I didn't look at:
include/wine/port.h:#ifndef HAVE_GETPAGESIZE
include/wine/port.h:size_t getpagesize(void);
include/wine/port.h:#endif /* HAVE_GETPAGESIZE */
include/wine/port.h:#define getpagesize ___WINE_NOT_PORTABLE(getpagesize)

libs/port/getpagesize.c:#endif /* HAVE_GETPAGESIZE */
server/mapping.c:# ifdef HAVE_GETPAGESIZE
server/mapping.c: page_size = getpagesize();
Though should give someone who wants to fix it somewhere to start.

terminal output
This would be a follow-up to bug #32085. Both Fantasy Wars and Elven Legacy are
affected as they use the same game engine.
The games come with native msvcp80 installed, the crash occurs with the
built-in msvcp80.
Somewhere during the tutorial missions (when an aerial unit attacks the enemy)
the game crashes due to the unimplemented function in msvcp80.
If you'd like to reproduce the crash with the demo:
- the game needs native d3dx9_30
- select tutorial-> basic tutorial from the main menu
- follow the steps in the tutorial, the crash occurs in the 3rd stage:
1st stage: unit deployment & melee attack
2nd stage: ranged attack
3rd stage: aerial unit attack (this is where the game crashes)
Mscodescan output:
./ElvenLegacy.exe imports following stub symbols:

screenshot (comparison)
Certain combination of letters in the built-in help viewer of LTSpice v4.x
appears as if they were bold.
They are always the letters 'fi' which appear incorrectly.
Currently the application has bug #31823 so the help viewer isn't displayed
correctly (there is a patch in #31823, though).
'winetricks corefonts' doesn't help. Plain terminal output doesn't show
anything interesting.
To reproduce the problem:
1. install the application and start it with scad3.exe
2. press <F1> to open the help viewer and browse the contents...the occurrence
of the characters 'fi' is quite common.
It seems to be a regression from Wine 1.5.13:

Where to click to adjust settings to full-screen
I'm testing with Wine 1.5.20, Lubuntu 11.10 x86-64 (Openbox window manager),
Nvidia driver 304.64.
This issue shows up with the WinUAE Amiga emulator. It doesn't happen when you
do "winetricks ddr=gdi" and tell WinUAE to use DirectDraw. So maybe this is
OpenGL-related?
- Download and run the WinUAE installer. Run WinUAE.
- When the WinUAE Properties window appears, click Display in the treeview.
- In the Screen section, select your preferred full-screen resolution and depth
from the drop-down lists.
- In the Settings section, change Native display from Windowed to Fullscreen.
- Click Start to start emulation. After a few seconds you should see something
on screen.
- Press F12 to open the Properties window.
- For me, the window appears but I can't click in or drag it. I needed to
Alt-Tab so the properties window is active before being able to drag it. (Is it
worth opening a separate bug for that?)
- Drag the Properties window around. Exposed parts of the full-screen
background are not refreshed; they contain trash from the Properties window
decorations.
That happens when the Graphics API option is either Direct3D or DirectDraw (can
change that in the Miscellaneous settings page). However, after doing
"winetricks ddr=gdi", the problem does not occur with Graphics API set to
DirectDraw.

The font size and or weight used in Windows dialogs cause line wrapping and/or
line truncations to occur on dialogs that have long strings. An example of
this can be seen in Putty version "Release 0.62" in the Terminal-Features and
Windows-Translations dialogs.
A git regression of versions 1.5.17 and 1.5.20 shows the following commit
identified as causing the problem.

Attempts to install Visual C++ 2008 on MacOS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion) using
winetricks vcrun2008 generates a thread wait timeout then eventually fails.
This occurs prior to any dialog. I've tested this again with 1.5.21 but has
been occurring since at least 1.5.18, maybe prior to that.

I have a copy of plants vs zombies which has been working perfectly with wine
versions 1.5.19 and earlier, but after upgrading wine from 1.5.19ubuntu3 to
1.5.20ubuntu1 tonight with wine's ppa the game no longer works. When clicking
the file PlantsVsZombies.exe the game starts and crashes immediately. I am
attaching the backtrace for your investigation. Thank you.

When using the built-in d3dx9 dlls, shadows appear only in the very first scene
in the game, but they're rendered wrong: they appear as miniature silhouettes
(see upcoming screenshot). In later scenes projected shadows are completely
missing.
The demo version can be used to reproduce the problem (~600 MB download size),
just don't install DirectX and remove/set to built-in the installed
d3dx9_32.dll.
The demo starts with a scene where Van Helsing and Mina are talking. You can
see their tiny shadows dancing on the carpet.
I created a +d3dx log but I couldn't squeeze it smaller than 1 MB, so I
uploaded the compressed log here (105 MB uncompressed size):

Reporting this, is kind of confusing too, Most of what I see here dose not

More details...
The solution wasn't very tricky after all...
I downloaded the free font editor FontForge and Force Encode the font.
Step for the fix:
1) Download and install the FontForge. Right now I am using the Linux Mint 14
Cinnamon edition and I found the FontForge from software manager. The official
site is the http://fontforge.org/.
2) Run FontForge and load the font etsans2.fon (You can found it at
drive_c/windows/Fonts folder of .wine folder or Playonlinux folder (depends how
you install the Solar Fire). Its easier to copy the etsans2.fon to your desktop
and load it from there.
3) From FontForge select Encoding -> Force Encoding -> Windows Latin ("ANSI")
4) Save the font with the same name (File -> Save or File -> Save as)
5) If you load the font from your desktop folder (or any other) put the new
etsans2.fon to the drive_c/windows/Fonts
6) No more steps! :)
Check for errors. Its looks to me that its working but I am not really using
the program. I just installed it for someone else...
In case you don't want to fix it on your own I attach the fixed font.

If I run "wine control" I get the CP for the default prefix and in Game
Controllers I see my rumblepad 2 and thrustmaster joystick but if I load
"control" from one of the other prefixes, the controllers are not there.
Theres some games in my steam prefix I'd like to play but need a joystick.
None of my games installed in other prefixes detect the control devices. I've
got prefixes for both vanilla wine and playonlinux (where steam is installed)
and I get the same problem accross the board. Some of the games I play require
specific overrides so I can't just bung them all into the default prefix.
Any ideas?

Wine debug output
Rendering in the Civilization III: Conquests game is really slow in the 1.5.10
version of wine - about 2-3 FPS. This is most likely related to the OpenGL DIB
engine introduced as per bug 30669 - the game was not rendering properly in
prior wine versions.
I have tried profiling, but with very limited success - I can't get valgrind to
work with wine, and sysprof reports high CPU usage in Xorg caused by copying
bitmaps around, with no further details. Xorg also has a 90%+ CPU usage while
the game is running.
I have tried both the integrated Intel card (Sandy Bridge) and a GeForce GT
555M through bumblebee, with identical results.
Attached a dump with WINEDEBUG=warn+all,+gdi,+dib,+opengl,+d3d,+ddraw - not
really sure what else I can do to diagnose the issue.
The problem is present in both the Steam and a NoCD version - the dump is from
the noCD one to eliminate any possible Steam interference.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Get GTAIV running in WINE

3. Start GTAIV and see the bug.
Some cars are visible, and this is usually when they get some damage after a
collision.
When GLSL is used, this bug doesn't appear.
(If you wonder why I'm trying all this, ARB shaders appear to compile somewhat
faster, thus reducing some delays in game).

Hello,
Like i explain in the bug report #30671, i succeeded to launch this game.
Now, there is a new problem, the game is very slow in the main menu and in-game
itself. It's very unplayable.
I tried different tests in my Prefix.
- Put the game options in low : the game is always slow but less important than
Medium/High.
- Install d3dx9 with winetricks : always unplayable.
- Install gdiplus without success.
- Add differents Directx9 options in Regedit : always the same problem.
And now, i haven't solution for this problem.
I add the output console when i launch the game in a clean prefix.
