1.3.37 output from start till main menu is shown
I have upgraded wine from 1.3.18 to 1.3.37, and my Medieval 2: Total War Steam
installation has become considerably slower - the initial loading takes longer
and there are glitches when I am in main menu. Campaign map scrolling is also
laggy while before it was smooth. Rolling back to 1.3.18 solves the problem -
everything works good again.

I'm investigating ways to try to get it to run in case no one else is able to

Logs created by PlayOnLinux
When trying to start The Sims 3, I can start the launcher and see the games
intro video followed by the loading screen. After that I get an ingame message
that "Disc authorization failed. It could not be checked whether the disc is a
valid The Sims 3 disc or not. Please contact customer support." and the game
exits.
The disc seems to be recognized at /dev/sr0 (according to winecfg) which also
shows a serial for the CD. It's automatically assigned letter "D:" and set as
"Network share" (cannot change this). The mounting point "/media/Sims3" seems
to be correct.
The games checks for the CD two times: The first check right after starting the
game from launcher is passed successfully if the CD is in the CD drive. The
second fails every time I try to start the game.
I'm attaching two debug logs created by playonlinux which I used to install the
game.
I also installed vcrun6, vcrun2010, vcrun2005, d3dx9, dotnet20sp2 and mono210
(because there was an error message in the logs that said to install mono)
using playonlinux. I also installed the official EA patches and brought the
game to the latest version.
Further I adjusted settings as described in the appdb: GLSL disabled, Offscreen
Rendering: fbo, Direct Draw: opengl.
I don't see any graphic problems so far.
This all happens on up-to-date Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Could there maybe be a permissions problem?
Please let me know if you need any further information.

In Touhou 12.5 (Double Spoiler), Touhou 12.8 (Fairy Wars), and Touhou 13 (Ten
Desires), Wine versions 1.5.5, 1.5.6, and 1.4.1 (there may be more) are unable
to access configuration data, save data, and replays from drive_c's Application
Data (/ShanghaiAlice/th###).
>From testing, it seems that new config data, replays, and score data cannot be
saved either, rendering the entire system based on replays and unlockables
unusable.
This problem was first found on Mac OSX Lion, and it was found when I used Wine
Version 1.5.5. It has not been fixed since then, and it was not present in 1.4
or 1.2.3. This may be a unique problem, but there is a chance that wine is
unable to access data from the folders. There is, of course, no error log since
it is not an actual "error," and the games in question run fine otherwise.
If this problem is not solved, it may affect future Touhou game releases.

It applies not for all applications. It is not only the problem with current
version of Wine, because it happened before.
Take for example Great PWN Dictionary -- you install wine, you install this
app, everything works fine. But when you update wine something is changed in
that way that this app is corrupted and it (not wine) says the installation was
not successful, reinstall is required. After reinstall everything is fine again
until... next wine update. And so on.
I know there is not much details here, please ask what should I add, I will
help for sure.

The screen display of the graphics lags when running the SDET OpenGL
application on 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 with Wine 1.5.8
On Windows the application zooms/spins and highlites elements correctly based
on the users input.
On Ubuntu/Wine the screen display lags ie. it's out of step!
At the source code level the application uses the WGL call to
"SwapBuffers(hdc)".
I replaced this with a call to "wglSwapLayerBuffers(hdc,fuPlanes)" but the
result is the same!
I have discovered a kludge/workaround:
- when running on ubuntu/wine if I call either of these functions twice, ie.
one immediately after the other, then the application works correctly ie. the
same way it does on Windows!
Perhaps this workaround will help identify the problem.

Native quartz.dll is a workaround.
To reproduce the problem with the demo version:
1. Install the demo as usual.
2. Launch the game with ../Bin/ClonesGame.exe. You will receive an immediate
crash in quartz/filtergraph.c, as can be seen in the attached log.

New UPlay Ubisoft's games
Since few days, the Ubisoft Game Launcher had a big update. The game launcher
is replace by UPlay, a service like Origin for exemple.
(see this screenshot in the attachment.)
Since this update, it's impossible to launch the Multiplayer Mode for
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood/Revelations (and maybe others games).
For these 2 games, the only way to launch the Multiplayer Mode is to pass by
the Soloplayer Mode.
In fact, when you launch AC Revelation with Uplay, ACRSP.exe (soloplayer mode)
start. In the game main menu, if you click in 'Multiplayer', UPlay close
ACRSP.exe and start ACRMP.exe (Multiplayer Mode).
The problem in Wine is here. Uplay close ACRSP.exe and start ACRMP.exe
correctly but I have ACRMP in my process list and the game does not appears.
ACRMP is in zombi state in my process list.
If i look in my output console, i have these messages :

I don't think anyone denied there was a driver/hardware bug involved as well.
But that doesn't change the fact that the way XRandR is currently used in Wine
causes completely unnecessary EDID polls.
This doesn't happen just once on startup either. As the linked source shows,
calling XRRGetScreenInfo() causes a poll. X11DRV_XRandR_GetCurrentMode() calls
XRRGetScreenInfo(). This is what is used to implement the ENUM_CURRENT_SETTINGS
part of the EnumDisplaySettings*() calls, and it's certainly not unheard of for
applications to call those.
You can certainly argue that this bug isn't a very high priority for Wine, and
that it's more important to get the driver fixed so that polls aren't so
expensive. You can't argue that Wine doesn't cause these polls.
> Wine doesn't do anything of the listed below things as the reporter claims:
>
> > - wine is requesting the information again and again
Calls to EnumDisplaySettings*() with ENUM_CURRENT_SETTINGS do this.
> > - and is forcing xrandr to do a reprobe instead of just getting the current
> > information.
Just about any XRandR 1.2 query will do this. The way to fix it is to use
XRandR 1.3 RRGetScreenResourcesCurrent for querying, and e.g.
RRScreenChangeNotify events to get notified of configuration changes. This is
practically needed for proper multi-head support anyway, and listening for the
appropriate events will also fix the issue where applications are unaware of
mode changes by other applications.

Created an attachment (id=32154)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=32154)
A patch to add support for XRandA 1.2. It will break many things.
Wine currently supports XRandR 1.1, which is fine for single-monitor users. It
is bad for multi-monitor users because every time wine tries to change the
resolution it completely mucks everything up, and usually switches off a
monitor, eg, bug 16958 (which is a XRandR problem).
XRandR 1.2 introduced some very major architecture changes (*) to support
multi-monitor setups.
I've attached a badly formatted & crufty patch that implements the required
bits of XRandR 1.2. Some issues remain:
A) Fullscreen applications no longer occupy the whole X Screen - only one
physical screen. Games will need to confine the mouse pointer to that screen to
remain playable, and I don't know where in Wine to do this. This may run afoul
of bug 6971.
B) I'm not certain how this patch might interact with DirectDraw & Direct3D -
it probably breaks the screen co-ordinate assumptions in wine.
I don't think it is worth tidying this patch to the formatting standard
required for Wine until A is dealt with.
The patch includes a lot of garbage included as I tried to work out how ddraw
and xrandr interacted (sorry), and what Xinerama was doing in the mix. The
really important parts are X11DRV_XRandR_Init(void), make_modes(void), int
X11DRV_XRandR_GetCurrentMode(void) and LONG X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode(int
mode) in xrandr12.c.
(*) http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/proto/randrproto/tree/randrproto.txt -
Sec. 1.2 - wine should be resizing crtc, not the screen.

Nvidia's 270.xx.yy driver series fix the glMapBuffer alignment issues that

Other bugs related to this commit: bug #27534, bug #27600, bug #27959.
This might be a dupe of any of those.
As for performance issues due to this commit, I don't see major performance
degradation, just because this game always performed badly on my system, when
one or more cameras were activated in the game (5-6 fps @1024x768 resolution).
Steps to reproduce the problem in the demo:
Install...launch...new game..skip the intro video...the problem can be observed
right in the opening sequences.

Summary: The Walking Dead Episode 1: Black screen after startup
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.3
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hein(a)kde.org
Classification: Unclassified
The short version: Starting "The Walking Dead: Episode 1 - A New Day" my
screen goes from 1280x1014 to 1024x768 and at the same moment also goes black.
Audio indicates the game may be running fine otherwise. The log indicates an
"unhandled blend op".
Full info:
"The Walking Dead: Episode 1 - A New Day" is an adventure game made by
Telltale Games, and most likely uses similar technology to other recent games
by the company, such as the episodic "Back to the Future" adventure game and
their "Jurrassic Park" adventure game. However, it's visually distinct from
them in that it uses a celshading look.
I've installed the game using Wine 1.5.3 from the Fedora 17 Beta x86-64
repositories. The WINEPREFIX is shared with a Steam install used to play Portal
2, and the following was installed via winetricks for the benefit of Portal 2
according to an AppDb how-to: vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 corefonts
(The AppDb does not have an entry for "The Walking Dead: Episode 1 - A New
Day" at the time of writing.)
Upon starting the game via "wine WalkingDead101.exe", there is a brief flash to
white, followed by the screen going black. This is accompanied by a video mode
change from 1280x1024 to 1024x768. The screen remains black, and after some
time, audio is heard that sounds like it might be the game's menu screen. After
a while of staring at black, I then bring up a drop-down terminal (Yakuake) by
keyboard shortcut and run "wineserver -k". The log is filled with an endless
repetition of:
fixme:d3d:gl_blend_op Unhandled blend op 0.
Full log is attached.

As title says, if Dota 2 is run with the d3d9ex rendering engine, the game

Of course an easy workaround exists, with the -nod3d9ex switch the game can be
forced to use a different renderer that works fine under Wine.

Summary: Gruntz: Slow down a lot when displaying text
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.28
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: miro(a)hroncok.cz
Gameplay slows down a lot, when text is displayed in game window. I mean white
text with information in top left corner or text when writing cheats.
Displaying text in game guides is OK, same as text in classic Windows dialogs.
Steps to reproduce:
For white text in top lef corner:
1. start playing the game (SINGLEPLAYER > QUICKSTART)
2. click the mouse button twice, to actually start playing the game
3. hit F5 to quicksave the game
4. set a name of the game and click on Save
5. OK all the dialogs
6. F5 again
5. the white text appears in top left corner, game slows down until text
disappears
(This may not work in the demo.)
For writing a cheat:
1. start playing the game (SINGLEPLAYER > QUICKSTART)
2. click the mouse button twice, to actually start playing the game
3. hit Enter and write something
4. game slows down
5. hit Enter again
6. game is OK again
It is not playable during the time, game is slowed down. Also I know two
things:
1. Neither CPU or Memory usage goes up during the slow down.
2. There are no errors or text in the terminal during the slow down.
Demo link: http://download.cnet.com/Gruntz-demo/3000-7562_4-10026065.html
PS Sorry, but I didn't test this in any earlier version of Wine, so it is
possible this is happening since ever...

2. No other bug report suffers from this commit.
3. Revert of this patch after git checkout makes that problem go away. (Can't

Crash log from wine-1.5.3 is the same as from wine-1.3.13.

Summary: hh,exe: Missing icons, problem displaying initial pag
of sample CHM-file
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.37
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: michael.istinger(a)gmx.at
CC: michael.istinger(a)gmx.at
When displaying the sample CHM file, the "closed book" and "open book" in
the tree control on the left side of the window are missing.
The right window complains that "the page cannot be displayed".
I have verified that the file displays ok on Windows XP SP3, so
the problem appears to be in my wine setup.
I assume that this may be related to the "err:" messages I receive when running
hh.exe.
I will upload the following material:
a) Sample CHM file
b) output generated from hh.exe
c) sample screenshot showing display on Windows XP SP3.
Is there anything I can do to get hh.exe to display correctly, or is this
a genuine bug that needs to be fixed?
All the best
Michael

terminal output
The game is an old-style RPG, developed by Basilisk Games. I can reproduce the
problem with the demo version (v1.04) as well as with the full (Steam) version
of the game. The sequel, Eschalon Book 2 is also affected, but only when DX7
renderer is used.
The problem: text appears as coloured blocks in the launcher as well as in mid
game (see attached screenshot).
The game offers DirectX and OpenGL rendering modes: in the main game the
problem occurs only when DirectX is selected (the OpenGL renderer is free from
the problem). However, the launcher always displays corrupted text (probably
because it always uses DirectX).
The problem is due to a recent commit:

Still present in Wine 1.5.8, tested with Hearts of Iron 3 demo. Installation
took 48 minutes on a EXT4 partition which was 88% full.
The 2 patches in bug #17956 (attachment #40936 and attachment #40937) greatly
reduce the time needed to install HoI 3 demo: installation took only 12 minutes
on the same partition. That's roughly the same amount of time that I received
in a Win XP (running in Virtualbox).

Actually in 0.9.60, but there isn't an option for that yet...
In both the car selection screen and the races, the cars in the Need for Speed:
Hot Pursuit demo are all but invisible. The only trace of them in the race is
the shadows and the sparks that fly when you hit stuff.
The cars used to be rendered perpendicular and textureless (See bug 10613). Now
they don't render at all, and the output at the command line is decidedly
different. (See attached file)
When you have vertex/pixel shaders turned off manually in winecfg, you get Bug
12252.
The game should run without shaders, as it supports nvidia chipsets all the way
back to the original GeForce. My card is an nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440 with the
latest nvidia drivers for the card.

Summary: Final Fantasy VII hangs in
IDirectInputDevice::GetDeviceState loop
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ewfewfe(a)wh4f.org
This problem is probably not only with Final Fantasy VII but that's the only
affected application I know of. Basically, the normal flow of the game has a
message loop like any other with translatemessage/dispatchmessage etc. However,
sometimes it goes into a loop which doesn't handle window messages and this is
where the problem appears, suddenly it doesn't see any input anymore and you
can't do anything but kill the application. I traced the input routines and
found that the game uses GetDeviceState for keyboard input, I can only guess
that this is not updating if no messages are being processed, I haven't
actually run it through a debugger to check. In windows this works fine of
course, input is recognized as usual and the game does not hang. An easy way to
trigger this is to try to quit the game from the ingame menu, a confirmation
dialog appears and the game is still running but you can't do anything.

"Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 2 - The Siege of Spinner Cay" is a 3D
adventure game made by Telltale Games.
The game is available for purchase and download online at
http://www.telltalegames.com/.
After purchasing the game, you download an installer executable:
ToMI_SiegeOfSpinnerCay_Setup.exe. This installer appears to complete
successfully.
Upon launching the installed game, you're presented with a launcher window in
which you can either enter your Telltale online account name and password, or
the game-specific serial key (which you can find out on the website after
logging in), to unlock the game.
Unfortunately, the launcher gets stuck on "Unlocking, please wait."
indefinitely after entering either information.
This is a regression: In older Wine versions - unfortunately, I don't quite
remember what version - the game installed, unlocked and then worked
flawlessly.
Of note is that with this older version, the launcher was just a white
rectangle with a HTML line edit where you put the serial and a Submit button to
then unlock it. Now, the launcher appears graphically much more sophisticated,
with proper backgrounds, themed input forms and animations. But it's probably
still HTML-based. Thus my assumption is that what happened here is that Wine's
MSHTML implementation has greatly improved, but those code changes have also
broken the crucial bit that makes unlocking work.
My Wine is 1.2-rc6 on Fedora 13 x86_64. I started with a fresh ~/.wine with
default settings, then used the latest version of winetricks to install the
gecko component, and then ran the installer.

I finally understood that this bug is not about mpeg video files... It's really
about mp3 audio files used by the game.
And yes, there is still an error when a sound is to be played. I could not find

> Wintermuted: can you give the latest Wine development version a try? Currently
> 1.5.6, http://www.winehq.org/announce/1.5.6
Just wanted to confirm this bug. I'm using Gentoo x86_64 and have it set to
accept all new wine releases when I update. I've experienced this bug with
every version of wine since approx 1.4.1, whatever version of Wine was
available roughly 4 months ago.
Currently on 1.5.8 and the problem persists. You can Enable Hardware Vertex
Shaders after the game is running, and it will continue to run AND you will get
the better graphic effects / reflections whatever the vertex shaders allow.
But if you have them Enabled when launching the game, all character models are
just invisible with floating names and an occasional weapon or armor piece
showing.
Every time I update wine I reset VertexShaders=TRUE in eqclient.ini and check
again. I'm using an Nvidia GTX 460 and I keep those drivers up to date as
well, not sure if ATI users have this problem. I haven't tried the modified
DLL method.

Well, yeah. Or when you configure wine with CFLAGS="-ansi", you could
go further and do CFLAGS="-ansi -DBSD_SOURCE".
Given the ease of the workaround, and the limited audience, it's tempting to
resolve as WONTFIX.

test in a clean .wine and got the same results (my normal .wine is mostly clean
as I have .winealt for installing native dll etc)

not really a problem but a bit annoying in trace logs and debugger.
In certain situations IClientSecurity::SetBlanket() causes in internal

Regression SHA1: fd31112ab0a0528fd9be99e0afd49dd98f523d2f
Some images in TrackMania United Forever are not displayed properly anymore in
wine 1.5.7: Only the first few lines are shown, the rest is just grey. This
affects the flags shown all over the place as well as the preview images of
tracks. I will attach a screenshot. This used to work fine in 1.5.4.
I did a bisect (which was a bit troublesome as TrackMania crashes with wine
1.5.5 and 1.5.6, but I think I got it right by applying the simple work-around
patch from that crash [1]). This is the result:
fd31112ab0a0528fd9be99e0afd49dd98f523d2f is the first bad commit
commit fd31112ab0a0528fd9be99e0afd49dd98f523d2f

When I open Word 2007 (SP2) and go to the Insert->Cover-Page, the MS crash
report comes up and forces me to restart Word. I run Ubuntu 11.10 64. I have
attached the console output - to me this smells like some threading issue.
err:ole:CoInitializeEx Attempt to change threading model of this apartment from
multi-threaded to apartment threaded
I have also seen similar crashes in e.g. the insert footnote and header, but
the list does not pre-load as many at once, so it is not as consistent.

This bug affects Stockfish, a chess engine. I've made a simplified test case.
This C++ program copies a line from stdin to stdout, or complains on EOF.
It works on WinXP, but under Wine 1.2.2 or 1.3.17 it says "No input". (You do
have to type a line before it will terminate.)
Here's the code and build command. The exe is attached.
$ cat setvbuf-test.cpp
#include <iostream>
#include <cstdio>
#include <string>
int main() {
std::string input;
setvbuf(stdin,NULL,_IONBF,0);
setvbuf(stdout,NULL,_IONBF,0);
if (std::getline(std::cin, input))
std::cout << "Input was: " << input << "\n";
else
std::cout << "No input\n";
return 0;
}

Summary: Spirits of Metropolis doesn't work properly without
using 'Emulate a Virtual Desktop'
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P3
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lostoverthere(a)gmail.com
The game, Spirits of Metropolis, does not display either full screen (default)
or windowed mode correctly. However, this issue is easily resolved by enabling
Emulate Virtual Desktop and setting it to 800x600.
However, if you dont do that and let the game run by itself. When it starts for
the first time in full screen. The game appears in the top left hand corner if
the users resolution is larger then 800x600, with the rest of the space just
being black. The game is meant to be stretched to the users resolution by
default.
If the user changes the games settings in options to run in windowed mode, the
game goes into windowed mode but the game itself shifts up approximately 500px
so the bottom 100px are only visible in the top of the game (the rest is
black).
Although this problems are irritating and should be easily fixed this in no way
alters or distracts the user from the game as the problem can be very easily
sorted by setting WINE's global settings to run in an Emulated Virtual Desktop
at 800x600 (the game's native resolution). Problem temporarily solved.

Before the return on line 1624 a TRACE() would be very helpful, printing the
actual values of out parameters: cluster_sector, sector_bytes, free_clusters,

Additionally a hint if the values were capped due to Win9X compat (capped=0/1).
Actual 32-bits overflow warning would be a bonus but not required ;-)
Thanks.

Hi,
The following doesn't work as expected:
$ export WINEPATH="C:\dir"
$ printenv | grep WINEPATH # Check if it's in the shell's environment.
WINEPATH=C:\dir
$ wine ./environment.exe # E.g.: printf("PATH=%s", getenv("PATH"));
PATH=C:\windows\system32;C:\Windows
I expect that by defining WINEPATH it would get appended to PATH. I also expect
wine to search in WINEPATH folders to locate a command, e.g. "wine
compiler.exe".
Before filing this report I did some research into this, and apparently there
has been only one person so far who complained about this feature not working
anymore (http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-users/2006-August/023179.html).
I have also browsed the source code, and found the following identifiers that
should be of interest:
http://source.winehq.org/ident?i=__wine_main_environhttp://source.winehq.org/ident?i=build_initial_environment
I could help debugging this, but only if someone guided me through setting up
everything that is required to debug wine in a graphical and sane environment.

0) At this time you must first patch Wine with the attachment to Bug #30948.
1) Download ContentAPISetup.msi from the MS website
2) cabextract -F _4E8D3D4C602B47F5A445D1B7AABCFE9F ContentAPISetup.msi

Bug #: 31032
Summary: Ragnarok download manager shows a .NET exception on
start (GdipLoadImageFromStream stream clone fails)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.7
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gdiplus
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: focht(a)gmx.net
Classification: Unclassified
Hello,
bug 30987 talks about a problem with builtin gdiplus and Mono.
Actually with .NET Framework 2.0 it fails too.
The issue (regression) is:
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commitdiff/9e12bc0175f6a65ee45ebce1ca…
(gdiplus: Create a copy of the source stream when loading an image.)
Mono still suffered after partial revert so these might not be related hence I
made an extra one.
With MS .NET 2.0 there is a managed backtrace shown in console.
--- snip ---
Unhandled Exception: System.ArgumentException: Parameter is not valid.

Actually it's the result of problem happening earlier.
Using a managed debugger this backtrace is more likely the culprit:

Thanks to the latest improvements in Wine, it's now possible to watch the
intros of game missions, which didn't even reveal in the quite recent past. But
I've noticed at least two strange things.
To see the first one:
1. Download the demo
2. Install and run it.
3. Get into the main menu.
4. Click "Neue Kampagne"
5. Keep everything in its default values and click "Spiel starten"
6. Make a click to skip a short video
7. Now you see street view; mission details are being explained to you and,
periodically, "camera" switches in top view mode. When it is acting in top view
mode, the rotated red aim moves from one key building to another.
This happens between screenshot 1 and screenshot 2.
Here is the first issue: in Windows, these movements are smooth and last for
several seconds; in Wine, they are done nearly immediately.
The second issue: when the intro is over, click the "X" button on the bottom
right. When the black area is shown up, take a look at the blinking adviser
icon on the bottom left. In Windows, it blinks around two times a second. In
Wine, it does so a few times faster.

Wireshark doesn't show *any* SSL/TLS attempts (on port 443).
Extracting the URL AudibleManager is attempting to open (a GET that includes

I'm aiming to test the patch attached to bug #15482, "negotiate TLSv1 instead

After playing the game, you exit by clicking "Quit game" and "OK", then you get
an error message from Wine about the program encountering a serious problem and
needs to close etc. and Wine freezes after that.
Sorry, but you can't download the game. If anyone has the disc, the good news
is that the game runs properly in Wine until you exit.
I've been told by the Ubuntu forum guys to run troublesome programs in Wine
using the terminal. Having just worked out how to do that, I've copied and
pasted the lines of weird error messages from the terminal and put them into a
text file. I've attached it to this bug report. This is my first attempt at
attaching terminal output for Wine - I hope it helps.

Program under wine can call Linux syscalls. The quick way to get the proof:
compile this code: http://pastebin.com/NNxPcYxx with Windows version of nasm
and run it under wine. It works. The program illustrates syscalls "write" (to
print the message to a terminal) and "exit".
But users of wine usually believe that their filesystems can't be damaged if
they configure wine's drives not to point on files outside .wine. It is wrong:
if malware developer is aware of wine, he can use Linux syscalls to have a full
access to the whole computer with rights of user that ran wine.
I think, wine should use chroot in order to avoid this problem.

When using Nvidia driver 270.41.06 to run World of Warcraft 4.1 in Windowed
Fullscreen mode on my dual head (TwinView) setup, the sides of the image are
basically letterboxed. There are two black bars on the left and right and the
image is compressed in the middle.
If I disable one display and relaunch the game it works fine.
Oddly enough, the letterboxing goes away if you enter the game world, but you
can still see that it's distorted and compressed horizontally. The UI elements
are much thinner than they should be. Everything else is compressed but the UI
is the most obvious.
I'm attaching a screenshot of the login screen. If more information is
required, I would be happy to do what I can.

I am not sure how important the top-warnings are, but at least the err: line

Wine 1.3.15 (compiled with GCC 4.4.5 and tried 4.6.0 aswell)
glibc 2.13
libxml2 2.7.8
What can I do?
I also tested this with the WoW version installed on the native windows
partition (via ntfs-3g) which once worked, but now raises the same error as
above.
Launcher.exe itself works fine.

Summary: Recovering HOWTOs from Re-Volt AppDB Entry
Product: WineHQ Apps Database

Hello,
My name is Bastian and I am a Super Maintainer of the application
'Re-Volt'. I somehow managed to remove all HOWTOs written by myself in
the process of merging two version entries for this application. Asking
on #winehq led me here, and I am now requesting a recovery of these
HOWTOs. From what I have been told, Codeweavers keep backups of the wine
application database. The HOWTOs got removed April the 14th just a few
hours ago.
Here is some background:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=3151
There is quite many sub-versions of Re-Volt 1.20 due to unofficial
patches being released every 3rd month. Since a previous version becomes
obsolete once a new version is released, me and Super Maintainer Luke
has agreed to keep a version entry named "1.20" for older versions and
keep one separate entry for the latest patch released, as suggested in
the maintainer guidelines.
A new version of Re-Volt was released the 7th April 2012 named
"1.2a12.0405". The previous version entry "1.2a12.0107" therefore had to
be merged with version entry "1.20". I moved all test entries, one by
one, from "1.2a12.0107" to "1.20". The version entry "1.2a12.0107" was
thereafter deleted.
When I started as Super Maintainer I wrote 3 HOWTOs. These HOWTOs was
created at the page of version entry "1.2a12.0107" but was set to be
displayed at version "1.0", "1.10" and "1.20" too. Deleting version
entry "1.2a12.0107" also deleted the HOWTOs because I was unaware that
the HOWTOs was dependent on this version entry. I am not sure I
understand why it is either when the HOWTOs was supposed to be shared
across several versions of Re-Volt. Is this intended by design? Anyway,
if these can be recovered I would be very pleased.
Best Regards,
Bastian

Some days ago I've updated Wine to 1.5.7 (from the official repository). It
worked good, but yesterday evening some new update was downloaded. After this
update Wine doesn't work at all.
Now when I try to install a program, I have "an internal error". A disks tab in
winecfg is not available ("failed to open mount manager").
I have reinstalled Wine several times (I have also removed the .wine
directory). Useless.
Now I installed 1.4 from the Ubuntu repository, and now it works.
So, as I understood, the problem is in Wine 1.5.7?

When running programs in Wine with Unity in Ubuntu, problems arise. When using
GNOME, the problems disappear!
Here's one way of reproducing the problem in Ubuntu version 11.04 (64-bit):
Log into Ubuntu with Unity (the default) and open the game called "Ballistic"
with Wine - download the game from here:
http://www.classicdosgames.com/game/Ballistic.html
Try playing that game with Wine; simply right-click within the game's window
and use the left mouse button to release the ball. Watch how it doesn't work
in Unity, now the next step... Logout of Ubuntu. At the bottom of the login
screen, change the login session to "Ubuntu Classic (No effects)". Now play
that game in Wine - it works properly without Unity.
This bug/conflict with Wine and Unity is not caused by old hardware, as my
computer is less than 1 year old.

The problem with ffmpeg is because the package gstreamer0.10-ugly-plugins (or
gst-plugins-ugly depending on the distribution). Installing the package can
hear the sound, but I do not see the image. The game returns to normal
