Summary: FMP 6 installer works on Debian 2.6, not 2.4
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: emarsh(a)mac.com
This is an FYI. I had installed Filemaker Pro 6 on two Debian Linux machines
running 2.6. When I tried to install on a 2.4 machine the installer never got
to the first screen, even though I tried multiple times. It would start a
whole batch of wine-prepare processes, they would go to sleep and never
return. As a sanity check I installed Etch (2.6) on the machine in question
and the installer worked just fine.

Ehm... I'm afraid I'm not able to test the patch, because there has been long
since I've made sytem programs... Vitali, Lei, Mr Bugs ?

Dmitry Timoshkov: Why is the patch absolutely wrong? Anyway, this bug still
happens, the WM panels are over the top of fullscreen games.

Yes, it's still a problem. It seems to me that wine's lieing about permissions
or something. From a +virtual trace:

Summary: Halo just presents a black screen rather than the menu

Halo worked on 0.9.29 but on 0.9.30 it just seems to stop when it should reach
the menu, leaving the screen just entirely blank. No obvious breakages in the
terminal.
I'm trying to regression test this but the breakage seems to come in two parts.
First: It reaches the menu but only about 20% of the screen (top left corner) is
visible.
Second: The error reported above, the screen is just black when it should be on
the menu so you can't see anything.
I'll try and single out at which point both of these occur.

Hi, i use the windows version of mplayer (yes, i know that sounds dumb, but i
cannot get the sound correct in the linux version, and the sound in wine works
well...)
If i run the command like:
wine explorer /desktop=foo,800x600 gmplayer.exe /tmp/somemovie.mpg
there's a crash after a few seconds. See the attached log.
(the virtual desktop is needed, otherwise the screen remains black, probably a
ddraw bug)
mplayer works fine if you just start it without the argument "somemovie.mpg",
and then select the movie from the menu, but i'd like to run it in the way above.

yes, Alexandre beat me to fix the debug buffer overflow issue. But there's still
the demangling issue, where we still don't support all the new stuff for
symbols' name demangling.
As I said, your issue pointed out two issues: one with debug buffer overflow
which is now fixed, and one with some unsupported demangling features, which
still require some work.
We'll close the bug when both are fixed.

Using native MSI fixes this bug as well as allows one to, with some other hacks,
install the program and in fact it is quite functional. For more info see:

Question. Are these private servers using the RO client, or are they using
custom Sakray? There's a difference between them, and could be why the official
client works, and private servers aren't.
((For those who don't know, Sakray is a client for RO test servers, and is
easier to mess with for server maintainers, which is why alot of servers use it.))

The d3d errors come well after repeated errors of the sort:
err:heap:HEAP_ValidateInUseArena Heap 0x110000: in-use arena 0x15ff78 next block
has PREV_FREE flag
so I wonder if this isn't a memory corruption problem rather than a d3d problem.

$ export WINEDEBUG='+heap'

When my patch is committed (still have to change it so it works on 64 bit) this

Summary: Graphical corruptions in Sim City 4
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.30.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-winelib
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: kde(a)3danim.de
When running Sim City 4 in its default DirectX hardware mode (can be forced
using -d:DirectX parameter), the images drawn on screen are broken. The screen
is drawn somewhat correct after stopping to scroll, however it then degrades
again as seen in the screenshot below. The game also does not enter a city but
always crashes during loading.
Furthermore, the cursor icons do not work, with only the default Windows cursor
being shown all the time. This makes gameplay hard, as it is impossible to tell
which tool is selected. This problem applies to the OpenGL version (-d:OpenGL
flag) as well.

Melty Blood appears to have a bug in EnumZBufferFormats - when it sees any
format with a stencil (e.g. WINED3DFMT_D15S1) it aborts the enumeration. This
causes it to not use any DirectX provided z-buffers (I think - I'm guessing
based on output of "Debug.txt" Melty Blood writes to the working directory).
However, changing this does not make the game work. It seems to find that 16bit
z-buffer format, but the characters are still not visible.
Melty Blood - the Original, as opposed to ReACT - displays the background
without the characters (instead of the white screen). It also doesn't spew the
CreateSurface failed with hr = 8876017c lines.

Hi,
MSI files use a string table to store all different strings, and in the other
tables, only references to it are used. These references are usually stored in 2
bytes, but when there are more than (about) 2^15 strings, each reference takes
up three bytes. There may be also installers which use only one byte?
This is the case with Visual Studio 2005, for example, and there are other
applications in the AppDB which fail with the same error (invalid table size) as
well.
Two weeks ago I asked Mike McCornack about it on IRC, and he asked me to file a
bug, so here it is.
Regards

Same behaviour with half life 1.
Wine version 0.9.29 (OpenSuse binary release from sourceforge)
OpenSuse 10.2
Gnome
1. Disable virtual desktop if enabled(winecfg)
2. start steam
3. start half life 1 or 2 (possibly others)
*Steam window is still displayed (known bug)
4.Press X to close steam window (to minimize it)
*Gnome desktop is displayed
5. right click on steam icon in Gnome tray
6. select any menu item
* Game is re-displayed.
There is no window in Gnome's window manager list when wine runs in "full screen
mode" as opposed to "virtual desktop" whereby there is a window entry in Gnomes
list - the wine virtual window.
Can we not have a root window created even when wine is in full screen mode, so
that the window manager can be used to switch to it? A status window or what
have you.
I am not able to produce a helpful screen shot for this problem.

A picture of Steam running in wine in a virtual desktop. The steam client was

The answer is that I am almost certain that it did.
I re-installed Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd 2 yesterday, upgraded
it, and then installed the latest wine from the wine edgy
eft repository. Then I installed VVPro USB 10.
I believe that VV Pro USB installed without a serious hitch,
and that your patch worked. It certainly solved the earlier
problem I had.
I am waiting for some more time tonight and some help to see
if VV10 works. If it does, I will file a report in the
application database.
I know that people have been trying to get Dragon
NaturallySpeaking to work, and that it is very far from
working at all. But ViaVoice, although not quite as good a
product, will probably run better in Linux.
Thanks for your help.

I talked to my hardcore geek friend about getting the 20041201 version of wine,
and he told me I didn't need to find an archive file to get it. Instead, he
told me to do:
export CVSROOT=:pserver:cvs@cvs.winehq.org:/home/wine
cvs login (use password "cvs")
cvs -z3 checkout -D 20041201 wine
That worked like a charm. Once I had the files, I tried to compile and install
wine by doing
./tools/wineinstall
as the README file suggested. However, the process died midway through, giving
the error messages
gcc -c -I. -I. -I../include -I../include -Wall -pipe
-mpreferred-stack-boundary=2 -fno-strict-aliasing -gstabs+ -Wpointer-arith -g
-O2 -o preloader.o preloader.c

make[1]: *** [preloader.o] Error 1

Ville, is that the error you ran into, or can it be worked around?

This time I run emerge -cC wine first, what removed all files & sources from my
system (I checked with find / -iname "*wine*"), removed ~/.wine directory ,
installed wine using emerge wine, and used wineprefixcreate. I installed Worms,
followed all steps described in HOWTO (http://appdb.winehq.org/
appview.php?iVersionId=3905) and the error reappeared. But this time with a lot
of debug infos. I attch everything wine wrote to stdout.

I see this bug, but it doesn't appear to be in richedit. Using a native richedit

Perhaps this belongs under another component? (I'm not sure how to find out

I've implemented EM_LIMITTEXT so that shouldn't be a problem.
WM_STYLECHANGING and WM_STYLECHANGED are not problems, really - we don't really
need the information in them for anything so they've never been implemented.
If you're still having problems, please try to be specific about what they are.

I use many .wine_* directories for different programs (much like bottles in
codeweavers wine, but created manually). When I install a program which wants to
create a link on the desktop, it's created, but points to "wine $PROGRAMPATH".
This sometimes won't work, for example if you have run the program from a
$WINEPREFIX different from the standard one. Maybe this could be changed to
point to the program, but running with the $WINEPREFIX specified when first
running the installer.
Great Work!

I just tested this on latest git with ls.exe directly and various others from
wineconsole --backend=user cygwin.bat .
The first line is always:
"29 [main] ? (8) cygheap_user::init: GetTokenInformation (TokenUser), Win32 error 5"
with the first two numbers changing somewhat.
The line appears in the wineconsole, not in the output from wine.
Subsequent invocations from within bash don't have that line.
Otherwise everything seems to work.
Seems like some recent change fixed this, please retest and close if you can
confirm.

Tested with git wine-0.9.29-g747ab4b.
The patch in comment #9 removes the X cursor (but keeps the game's cursor) when
the cursor is inside the System Shock 2 window. This, of course, means that the
cursor becomes invisible whenever I mouse over a Wine window and the windows app
doesn't draw any cursor.
The line to delete is 1457 of dlls/user32/cursoricon.c

I will enable that for more of the applications that I use. With the most
current version of the beta (fresh install and everything), it still has an
issue finding faultrep.DLL.
josh@linuxmaster:~$ wine "C:\Program Files\Supcom\Beta\Supreme
Commander\bin\SupremeCommander.exe"
err:module:import_dll Library faultrep.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program

err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program
Files\\Supcom\\Beta\\Supreme Commander\\bin\\SupremeCommander.exe" failed,
status c0000135
I don't know why this would happen. I also tried copying the entire Windows
installation (which works fine, I play it regularly) over and it didn't seem to
help at all. It could be a bug mainly with the patch itself. We might just
have to wait for the next patch to see if it works...
Unfortunately it is still a beta, so there are probably still bugs in the actual
code, and I am sure that causes even more problems for trying to debug the code
and get WINE to work with it. I'll check in with a newer version of WINE and
the retail version of Supcom at a later time (hopefully with a different bug to
report).

The compile errors are gone with current git, so basically this bug is fixed. I
guess that's due to this patch that was committed today:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2007-January/029760.html
In the console there's now this output:

err:msvcrt:demangle_datatype Unknown type

Eric, should i close the bug, or is it still necessary to find out , why the
demangling fails?

In another application (Genedoc) menus do not disappear, but additional window
decorations appear after opening a file (multiple minimize, maximize and close
buttons on right and multiple window icons at left). I'm not sure if the window
decoration bug is included.

On a Xinerama systems using NV-GLX wine is producing the following console error:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 144 (NV-GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 4 ()

For me wine runs the first application I start fine, however if I close the
application and restart the application and/or any other application wine throws
out the above error. After a reboot wine will again run one application, with
the same issue as above for any consecutive windows app.
I am not the only person with this issue:
http://groups.google.com.au/group/comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine/browse_thr…
The issue for me started some time around 0.9.24, sorry term just started so I
don't have time to Git regression test right now, and I though it was a unique
config issue I had created until I saw the above news group posting this evening.
Thanks in advance.

GLSL is the GL Shading Language. There is a registry key,
"//HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D/UseGLSL" which you can set to "enabled". This
enables (for now experimental) support for using GLSL for the shader
implementation, and should support vs_2_0. See also

GLSL? Are we talking about a certain debugging mode or something?
I am running it in shader mode (from winecfg dialog) if that makes a difference.
Is there a way to make it support openGL 2.0 or something like that?

> The bounds do seem to randomly appear
No, bounds isn't random. Imagine that your system cursor isn't hiden: when it
reachs bound of the screen (which isn't random at all of course) it stops.
Because game has its own cursor which moves depending on increments of the
system cursor postion bounds appears "random" to you but they are not. That
means that problem is because system mouse cursor isn't wrapped/recentered as
usually.
This maybe regression. For example I have game Postal 2 with same problem. But
this problem appeared recently i.e. with older Wine versions it (the mouse)
works perfectly (I know that I'm should do a regression test but I havn't time
for that currently; however I will do it in near future and then report proper
bug with results). Please try wine-0.9.24 for example and if it works you may
want to do a regression test. Unfortunately I havn't UT2k4 so I cannot help you
with that.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: shoeberto(a)gmail.com
UT2k4 under OpenGL runs very well via wine, but for some reason it likes to
restrict mouse movement to seemingly random boxes in the screen. These bounds
prevent reaching buttons, which can be worked around by using tab to select
them, but more importantly it restricts the range of movement for aiming. You
can only move your mouse so far left or right (I don't think it affects vertical
movement; either that, or the game's vertical bounds are hit before wine's are)
before being stopped and not being able to turn any further.
The bounds do seem to randomly appear either in the top-left or bottom-right
part of the screen, more prolifically the top-left; the bottom-right restriction
only seems to have happened after playing a match. I've tried various options
(run in virtual desktop, switching between fullscreen/window, etc) but it
doesn't seem to make a difference; I always end up with mouse movement being
restricted.

------- Additional Comments From p.beard(a)blueyonder.co.uk 2007-23-01 13:08 -------
To install items 'HOME' uses two files.
The first is a .cab file which contains the update. The second file is a
.toc file that contains information about the .cab file. This is where I
have my problem.
the toc file is a xml file and contains the location of the cab file in the
form;
<Location>file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/patrick/My%20Documents/TomTom/HOME/Downloads/navcore_6.52.7690.go-rider-one.cab</Location>
When the application reads the toc file it errors because it is unable to
fine the cabinet file.
If I edit the path in the toc file to read
<Location>file://z:\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\navcore_6.52.7690.go-rider-one.cab</Location>
It finds the cab file and installs the item just fine.
This is an ok work around that I don't mind doing. However there is one
weekly update that is automatically put into the c:\windows\temp folder. It
use the same method of toc/cab files however this happens automatically and
when the app can't find the cab it then deletes them from C:\windows\temp.
The workaround is to copy the toc and cab file out of the temp folder before
acknowledging the error, then edit the toc and install as if it was a update in
the \TomTom\HOME\Downloads\ folder.
This is slightly more frustrating.

I can not confirm for this game, but the same thing occurs for the demo of Pro Evolution soccer 4.
I think that the problem is the stub undocumented function IWineD3DDeviceImpl_ValidateDevice .
So, I think that there is no solution for our problem.... :(

Summary: Cannot install TeleCharts on Linux FC5 system
Product: WineHQ Apps Database
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: website-bugs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: r2crandall(a)centurytel.net
Install (from setup.exe) runs normally up to the point where it says
'configuring system'. At that point, it gives error # 0x8000FFFF. Install
stops consistently at this point, but I had to move the cursor to get the error
box to pop up.
To reproduce this, please go to the www.worden.com website and look for
downloads (note that you cannot take the default because it assumes a Windows
system, but there is a link on that page for Mozilla, which lets you download
the exe). Only message associated with the error is 'setup will now terminate'.
This is a stock tracking application (and critical for some of us!)
I'll be happy to answer questions.
Thanks, Bob

The latest beta patch (ver 53) using wine 0.9.29 gives me this:
err:module:import_dll Library faultrep.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Supcom\\Beta\\Supreme Commander\\bin\\MohoEngine.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MohoEngine.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\Supcom\\Beta\\Supreme Commander\\bin\\SupremeCommander.exe") not found
err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program
Files\\Supcom\\Beta\\Supreme Commander\\bin\\SupremeCommander.exe" failed,
status c0000135
It says it can't find a faultrep.DLL which really doesn't exist. Its possible
the installer just failed to copy it for some reason, but the windows VER
doesn't have this file either.
Testing in ver 44 works fine, but will not start because it thinks I am using an
outdated graphics card. It gives the message "Make sure your system meets the
requirements".
Adding more support for Direct3DCaps will definitely be a step in the next
direction to getting this game to actually run. The new DLL error seems a bit
weird though.

Summary: DNS resolving with computer name.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.29.
Platform: PC
URL: http://ash-fox.theden.ws/temp/weird-dns-issue.txt
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Ash-Fox(a)QuickFox.org
When trying to install "Magic the gathering online", I encountered a weird DNS
issue.
This DNS issue seemed to be caused by the fact my system's computer name
(Tapestry) was not resolvable, which caused the program to ultimately fail with
a host resolving issue.
After adding the IP address to the /etc/hosts file for 'Tapestry', that didn't
help it, infact I got additional errors in the program popping up (see .txt link)
Only after I had added the entry (Tapestry) to my DNS server and removed it from
/etc/hosts would it work.
*** Upon further testing I found setting anything in my hosts file would cause
the "warn:winsock:wsaErrno errno 12, (Cannot allocate memory)." issue when
trying to resolve it.
I'm currently using Kubuntu edgy, and the binary repositories listed on WineHQ's
website.

We have a tool called widl that is used to generate code for marshalling and
unmarshalling parameters for remote functions, but it isn't ready yet, so we
need to use a Microsoft tool called MIDL instead, but there are objections to
having MIDL-generated code in Wine because it is difficult to maintain and is
hard to apply fix bugs.

So far I've noticed this in Need for Speed Carbon and Black and White 2. The
picture that should be in the left hand side of the window is replaced with text
saying what the picture should be. See attached for specifics.
It used to work because I remember trying to install NFS:C before and seeing the
picture. I'll regression test it when I get the time.
