I just bought the double pack of warhammer and its upgrade; winter assault.
Warhammer does not install from the two cd's. (winter assault has its own two
cd's and needs warhammer already installed)

At first, a graphical Dawn of War menu is shown on which I can click the Install
button.
The two fixme's appear on the console. A small neat Windows dialog appears as
well, claiming to find a windows version that is not suitable to install Dawn of
War on. When I press the Ok button on that dialog window, the final error line
is shown and another neat Windows dialog box informs me that the installation
failed.
How can I help you help me get this game running?

fter running moo2 at the console (via Orion95.exe after navigating to its
directory) the intro screens ran. When it came to the intro movie, the sound
began to stutter mildly. As the movie progressed the stutters occured more and
more frequently, from about once every 5-10 seconds to 3-4 times per second.
The first time I ran moo2, no menu came up after I pressed space to clear the
then-horrible intro movie (I pressed alt-f4 after a few seconds of blank
screen). The second time I ran moo2 I skipped the intro after hearing the first
stutter and got onto the menu, and saw a double cursor. The menu itself
stuttered mildy and was quite slow. I tryed to start a new game and went to the
first screen (universe variables and creation) when the cursor froze (after
perhaps a few seconds time). again I alt-f4ed. This is where I am at now.
After previous moo2 probs and reading about other moo2 probs, I realize some of
this is pure duplication. As an unexperienced bug-poster however, I don't know
how to incorporate my unique stuttering experiences with the hanging double
mouse-cursor problems. next is an attachment of the console.

links to bugs that are available for MOO2.
For me, MOO2 runs fine except for the sound, and IMHO it's still an unsolved
problem why it works for some people but not for other people.
The best you can do is to add yourself to the Cc of the bugs affecting you, and
respond if anyone is asking for more information (you can also vote for the bugs
that affect you).
In all cases, please follow the "only one problem per bug" rule, otherwise
quickly a mess consisting of half a dozen issues mixed into a dozen bugs will
occur making everything unreadable.

Summary: segfault running rc.exe via make
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.29.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mook.moz+sites.org.winehq.bugs(a)gmail.com
This has symptoms similar to bug 6714 but only happens with rc.exe (the resource
compiler) from MSVC 7.1 SP1. (The general case has been fixed for wine 0.9.29,
thanks!)
When invoking rc.exe from GNU make 3.81 (the Linux native version), wine
segfaults. This does not occur with make 3.80.
The segfault does not occur when using winedbg, or when running wine under gdb.
(Both while being run by the same make.) It does occur when running bash via
make, and then wine from there.
Backtrace from a core dump: (Admittedly useless looking)
#0 0x40023d34 in ?? ()
#1 0x7bc615f4 in ?? ()
#2 0x00000033 in ?? ()
#3 0x7ffddb5c in ?? ()
#4 0x7ffdc000 in ?? ()
#5 0x7ffdc1ac in ?? ()
#6 0x00000000 in ?? ()
I'm not quite sure why it can't find symbols, considering I ran it out of the
object directory. GDB keeps on thinking the source file is ''.
Wine 0.9.29 built on a SuSE-10.2 system via a git checkout of the wine
repository with the following:
CFLAGS="-DLDAP_DEPRECATED=1 -O0 -g -m32 -fmessage-length=0 -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2"
../wine-git/configure --enable-debug --prefix=/home/mark/apps/wine-head
--srcdir=../wine-git
(The CFLAGS was copied out of building the source RPM, except with optimization
turned off.)
I am attempting to find a freely downloadable version, but failing so far. (I
think it's part of the VC Express downloadable from Microsoft, but that doesn't
install on Wine yet)
Will attach strace and WINEDEBUG=+all logs in a moment.

The "fonts.lbx [entry 0] could not be found" error goes away if you go to the
MOO2 directory before starting the game (see #7053).
Wine crashes _after_ quit'ing MOO2 are somewhat normal, I'll open a bug for this
later.
I'm not sure whether there's already a bug for the screen resolution problem
(workaround: Winecfg -> Graphics -> [X] "Emulate a virtual desktop"), but that's
a different issue. I'll check whether there's already a bug for it.
Do the crashes after the intro movie still occur with 0.9.29?
If yes, does it help if sound was disabled in winecfg?

i didnt find a 100% reproducible way of triggering the bug, however it always
appears after some minutes of play.
Description : start a new game, move the hero around the room, there are several
objects you can look at and/or use, the bug seems to be triggered when one of
these actions are requested on an object. You can use the magnifying glass
(bottom right) to see where are these objects in the room. So just play a bit
looking at/using objects.
when the bug is trigered, a popup error box is shown with "unknown error" (in my
case it was in french because of the french version of the game) and the game dies.
I've logged the relay output, it's 1.5 giga non compressed and 20 meg

Component: wine-user
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cdunn42(a)yahoo.com
I have been experiencing a crash with page fault in QCharts, usually when
closing a dialog (I can always reproduce it by playing with preferences for less
than a minute). After much testing, I've determined that it is being caused by
this patch :
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-December/028783.html
Although it seems unrelated (that is a mshtml patch, while the crash seems to
occur in the user32 winproc code), I've found that if I back out that patch, the
problem disappears. I've tested that several times. This continues to be the
case with current CVS as of 1/10/2007.
I will attach the console output of the backtrace.

This is a problem with C&C Generals. Under Windows (XP,Vista) with a desktop
expanded to two monitors, the game also doesn't capture the mouse properly, so
you have the same behaviour.
Try using the cursor keys for scrolling, that's what I do when playing Generals
(and I do that quite often).

show up. If you start with some other level and then go to one that works fine,
the bug does still show up.

I've been experimenting a bit with this bug in Warcraft III, trying to find a
reason for it. As with WoW, the numpad keys are only usable once. Each of the
numpad keys that I tested (1,2,4,5,7 & 8) behaved as expected the first time.
Subsequently, the game refused to recognise additional presses of each of those
keys.
The bug is still present in 0.9.29
I gathered some relavent debug information, which is at least interesting.
Pressing the numpad 7 key generates the following messages, regardless of
whether it's the first time you are pressing it or not:
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx NumLockMask = 0010
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx AltGrMask = 0010
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx Found keycode 79 (0x4F)
For comparison, I tried pressing Z, which is bound to one of my hero's spells.
This generated the following messages:
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx NumLockMask = 0010
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx AltGrMask = 0010
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx Found keycode 52 (0x34)
The only thing that changed is the keycode. Since every key works fine, except
for the numpad keys, this bug must result from either 1) the differences between
numpad keys and normal keys, or 2) the difference in wine's handling of these
two types of keys, or 3) Warcraft's handling of these types of keys.
I had thought of only one more test, so I pressed enter and held down numpad 7,
in order to see if entering chat text was any different. It resulted in a score
of the following messages:
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx LockMask = 0002
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx NumLockMask = 0010
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx AltGrMask = 0010
trace:keyboard:X11DRV_ToUnicodeEx Found keycode 79 (0x4F)
Everything is the same, except for the first line, which is new. This didn't
mean much to me, but I hoped that someone else might do something more with this
information. I'll do some more testing if I think of anything else and have a
look at the source code, if I can decipher it. In the meantime, I hope this helps.

Hi,
I have not tried 5.12, however, I'm seeing the same problem in version 4.1 (for
Windows 3.1). Thankfully I sorta know where the buttons on the instruments are,
and thus can still use this package, however it does present a significant
barrier to usability.
Also worth mentioning, I'm not able to run the installer for 4.1, the main
dialogue appears then disappears, dropping me back to the bourne shell prompt.
I shall give the suggestions in this bug a try and report back.

Just tested the client with WINE 0.9.28 on Ubuntu 6.10 and found out that the
wrong positioning issue of the game's child window when turning on OpenGL is
gone - that's nice.
However, all you can see in that child window is the gaming area, the server
messages and the text input field on the left side of that window are covered
black now (with OpenGL enabled).
Also, the letters of the own character and the ones that share experience with
you are still not bold - but maybe there's something wrong with my wine-fonts
configuration, although WINE 0.9.8 displays the letters correctly.

There was some activity around WODM_PREPARE in 2005, see e.g.
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2005-March/016469.html
No idea why they took that out, guess it was busted.
To work around the crash, use winecfg to disable all sound. The
game then continues. (It hangs with a blank screen on
my system; maybe it wants an 8 bit per pixel screen, I haven't
tried restarting X with --depth 8 yet.)
Incidentally, installing the game is a pain for two reasons:
1) the cd-rom has to be the current directory, or the
installer will silently hang; +file reveals it's looking for
a file on the cd-rom without using a drive letter or absolute path.
2) the Z order of the windows is whacked out; once you use alt-tab
to see the README window, you then have to move the readme window
out of the way before you see the installer dialog.

I think there is a workaround for the JVM_Bind problem that could help!
I have been researching this problem for a while. A Linux strace revealed that
Java tries to use IPv6 address space to open a port by default. And it seems
that Wine does not support that, making the JVM fail with a misleading error
message.
There is a Java system property called "java.net.preferIPv4Stack" that, when set
to "true" makes the JVM use the tried-and-true IPv4 network stack. Running
Tomcat with that property set to true makes it work, and strace confirms that.
I'm sure other folks have gotten to this workaround already, but I couldn't find
a mention of it yet. Hope this helps.
P.S. the TimeZone bug also has a workaround, it's documented somewhere on the
Internet.

In Settlers 3 (1.60 Gold), the mouse should change
from the arrow to a cross and the map should scroll,
when you move the mouse, while RMB is down.
This works with native dinput.dll, but failed with the buildin version.
(wine-0.9.29):
How to reproduce (line-numbers from the log):
0: Start the game
~200: Select "Tutorial" and move the mouse to the screen-cented
~330: Press RMB and move the mouse: The Bug is now visible
~780: Release RMB, move to the "Quit" -Button and Quit
A Demo is available, but does not help (crash wine very early)

I tried several alternatives to install ie6. Manual install using tips on the
web and executing ie6setup.exe on wine (including, DCOM98.EXE,
ie6_overrides.reg, mfc40.cab etc). The ie6 installer program started but
crashed after accepting the legal conditions.
I also tried version 2.0.5 of and ies4linux wine-0.9.28. Then I got ie6 to run
but many web pages just turned up as blank. I am sure you can reproduce the
problem if you try the above combination of versions and try to visit (a major
bank home page in Sweden)

The Unreal Tournament runs perfectly (3d, sound), but sometimes i lost the control.
http://www.inf.bme.hu/~sg634/Xterm_log.txt
This is the terminal output.
One of my keyes seems to be rut. (for example: the player goes ahead, but i dont
want, the player died, and i cant push fire to respawn...all works fine (sound,
3d), the game continues, but i cant play)
Another bug: (maybe hang together)
In the "Control Setup" (?) menu I set the "f" and the "NumPad0" to jump in the
game. The "f" button works normally, but if i press the NumPad0 the player jump
only one time, then it happend, i cant never jump again with the NumPad0, just
with the "f".

I didn't know that support existed. The only place this seems to be
documented is this wiki-page http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectX-Shaders that I
have found after your comment.
Anyway, enabling UseGLSL don't seem to make any difference. Tell me if you
wan't a trace with it enabled.
> Please update your OS/Hardware
Could you be a bit more specific with what I need to update?
I already run the latest released Ubuntu (6.10, released 2006-10-26). The
only thing I can think of that might need upgrading is the NVIDIA drivers.
6.10 has version 1.0.8776 and I know that the 1.0.9***-drivers have some
major improvements. Do Wine need the 9***-drivers for all shader support?
You also mention hardware. My graphics card is a GeForce FX5200 which
supports shaders 2.0 (with poor performance), but this game only requires
DirectX 8.

The NWC2 install programs use NSIS CopyFiles instruction with the /SILENT
directive, which calls the Windows Shell function SHFileOperation with the
operation set to FO_COPY. In Windows, this operation can be used to replace an
existing file. In Wine, this operation will fail when the target file exists.
The exact cause can be found here:
http://source.winehq.org/source/dlls/shell32/shlfileop.c#L1075
if (SHNotifyCopyFileW(entryToCopy->szFullPath, fileDest->szFullPath, TRUE))
By setting the parameter "bFailIfExists" to true, the file copy operation will
fail when the target file exists.

I can confirm the bug, but I think it's rather a bug in the imput handling.
For me, I can get it to work with the following:
I join battle.net, I quit battle.net. Now StarCraft hangs, e.g. pressing escape
doesn't get me back. I move the mouse, the swooshing of controls are audible,
screen is still black. Escape still doesn't work. I click somewhere on the screen.
The OK and Cancel buttons appear, moving the mouse reveals the rest of the
screen, Escape works now.
Given that I can get it to unblock while moving the mouse, I think something
blocks in the input handling.

I guess it got reported only 43MB of pure free memory and that is really not much.

Sure.
With today's git it gets much further in the shader code, before crashing in
SetVertexShader:
Backtrace:
=>1 0x7c5d0e65 IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetVertexShader+0x85(iface=0x1701500,
pShader=0x16fe678) [/tmp/wine/git/wine/dlls/wined3d/device.c:3280] in wined3d

device.c:1225] in d3d8 (0x0034e95c)
I am attaching full traces using both hardware and emulated vertex shaders.
Using hardware shaders wine sometimes gets stuck in some infinite loop after
the final d3d trace message ("trace:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetTexture App is
setting the same texture again, nothing to do") instead of crashing and giving
a backtrace.

This probably affects other applications as well, but so far I have seen this
only in Lotus Notes R5.
In order to reproduce this bug, fire up Lotus Notes R5 and create a new e-mail
message or open an existing one, then select and justify (Text|Align
Paragraph|Full or right-click|Text Properties|Alignment tab|Justify) a
paragraph. If you toggle between left-alignment and fully justified alignment,
you'll notice that the selection highlight remains the same (oddly, if you
copy/paste the text, it'll be all there).
There's an MSDN article [1] that could provide some insight. Also, the results
of a 'gid -r EM_EXSETSEL' seem to point 'dlls/riched20/editor.c' as the culprit.
Btw, I verified this before and after I applied my patch [2] to bug 50.

Summary: Newer version of wine do not function properly
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.22.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: philip.nystromer(a)telia.com
I use wine together with ie6 for an important application where my service
provider requires ie6 and windows (you can think whatever you would like about
this service provider but this is the way it is).
Everything worked excellent before I upgraded my wine installation from
wine-0.9.10 to wine-0.9.28.
After the upgrade I have not been able to run ie6 w/o problems and the client
sw from my service provider could not be run properly either. I have spend
considerable time to try to figure out the root cause why these two
appications can't run properly on my latest wine-0.9.28 installation.
Finally I rolled back to wine-0.9.10 and everything got back to order. My apps
work again (I tried a few, but not all version between .9.10 and .9.28 with no
luck).
I just would like to convey my frustration over the newer versions of wine. I
think it is very unfortunate that a new version makes it impossible to use
applications on wine. Through my root cause search, I recognize that many
people are in the same situation as I have been.
Please attend, with high priority, to this general problem. Wine is otherwise
a blessing.

Proposed patch
With this patch the justify1 example François Gouget mentioned earlier now
justify the text properly, [1] even though the spaces' widths are a little
different from those under windows [2] -- you can see the differences by
looking at both screenshots simultaneously as if they were a stereograph image,
which creates a nice 3D floating text effect in this case... =) Also, Lotus
Notes R5 now justifies text properly, too.
There remains an issue, however: when I select justified text in Notes, the
selection mark appears as if the text is left-aligned, nonetheless the text is
copied/pasted properly. o_O! [3]
I'll be looking into this, but feel free to come up with a solution faster than
me... =P

Wine-0.9.28 doesn't crash. Strange enough, testing with Wine-0.9.5 and
Wine-0.9.18 also doesn't expose any crash.
I am testing Wine offline so can't test repository version of 2006-07-06 right
now, but I guess this report can be related to bug 3738 as large part of the
backtraces looks the same to me. Although testing around the patch which cures
mentioned bug shows wineconsole don't crash before it as well as after it. May
be just due to some changes in my nVidia driver setup (update).

Installing courier32 from http://corefonts.sf.net fixes this,
but users should not have to do that. We should at least
get the text metrics right.

I think that it's actually very good idea to fix this bug because this bug
forces all users (that cares about spam) don't use primary e-mail.
For example, my primary e-mail address is "research science.su" and it should
be clear to everyone that it is impossible for me to change it to something
else for obvious reason. This address not only "show" that my profession is
related to science but it also looks very good and I cannot risk by posting it
to the whole Internet everywhere - otherwise I will get a log of spam.
Fixing this bug is very simple (so I actually don't understand why it isn't
fixed for so much long time) and will resolve this problem forever.

With BG2 running "sudo wine /media/cdrom0/setup.exe" installation ends with

I'm using Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 - wine 0.9.28

directory and suffix but no filename!

If I change my email address,
I want Bugzilla to ensure
my new email address
will not be found again by robots.
I will not give my new email address
as long as this Bugzilla bug is not fixed.
***
The risk for Wine project
is that many testers/developers
don't see notifications sent by email
and thus slowdown the project
because they don't reply to posts.

Similar problem with quicken 2006 on initial "Get started with Quicken 2006"
dialog. Workaround from comment #10 solves it.

A workaround from bug 3221, winecfg uncheck "allow window manager to control
windows", gets rid of the problem. This is on dapper 2006.06 with the
default (gnome).

To quote myself then:
"I also installed fontforge, but it didn't make a difference. If that helps: in
xwine the fonts show up just fine."
I still have it installed. No change to the problem, there still isn't any font
visible in winecfg. And that's also why i asked if this should maybe added as a
new bug instead.

Actually no I can't confirm this. It does not freeze for me at all.
Menu graphics and game are corrupted. But otherwise works fine with current GIT.
If anything, cutseens and videos actually work (in openGL mode they are invisible).
