Summary: Turbocad LE file save error
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.25.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-winelib
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tedhansen(a)sasktel.net
Saving files in Turbocad native (.tcw) format results in an unreadable corrupted file with
wine version 0.9.25. Attempting to reopen Turbocad gives a "Failed to open ?: Loading
Header" error.
Other file save formats available (.dxf, .dwg & others) appear to be working correctly.
Last version known to work properly is 0.9.20, I have not tested versions in between
0.9.20 and 0.9.25. By mixing & matching wine & libwine versions I have determined that
that the bug is in libwine, not in wine.
The error message that shows up when attempting to open a corrupted file is:
crashedagain@desktop:~$ wine .wine/drive_c/IMSI/TCWLE/PROGRAM/tcw40.exe
fixme:ole:CoRegisterMessageFilter message filter has been registered, but will not be used
fixme:ole:ITypeInfo_fnRelease destroy child objects
err:ole:StdMarshalImpl_ReleaseMarshalData could not map object ID to stub manager,
oxid=800000009, oid=10
err:ole:CoReleaseMarshalData IMarshal::ReleaseMarshalData failed with error 0x8001011d
Wine exited with a successful status
(The fixme's are normal, only the err's are relevant to the bug)
I will attach samples of a good save (wine 0.9.20) and a corrupted file if I can figure out
how....Sorry, I cannot figure out how to create the attachment. The files are small (35kB
each) I will email them to anyone if they want them. Looking at the files with a text editor
it appears the order of some of the information is mixed up...some data which should be
near the beginning is tacked on at the end, maybe more errors as well.

Orginal installation (from 2 CDs) of Red Orchestra wasn't working with wine, so
I installed it in Windows. After installation I switched back to Linux and
copied Red Orchestra (consisting steam installation) to ~/.wine/drive_c/Program
Files. Then I started Steam in simple way - wine Steam.exe. Steam was working
(and still is) fine. I was trying launch RO via Steam\My Games, but all I've got
was runtime error.
I didn't give up, so I deleted local game files via Steam and downloaded game
(by Steam). Steam done everything, but RO still not starts.

Summary: WINE stops responding after function call (app specific
problem)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.28.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: doom3d(a)atw.hu
I tried to use Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete game's mapeditor. Whenever I
try to use "show passability" button, WINE stops responding.
I can reproduce this failure by running this exe, load any map and use ctrl+p.
I also tried to create a new map using this option. When I add new land squares
to the map, "show passability" function works, but the mapeditor slows down
exponentially. I reached very soon 100% CPU load, (mapeditor should run on PI
100Mhz under Win98, I have Athlon XP 1700+, 768MB RAM), 94% taken by
/usr/X11R6/bin/x:0 -br.. , and 5% by mapeditor.
This executable needs some additional resources, so right now I can't post it.
(I have to dig for them using the heroes resource editor.)
I am using Ubuntu Linux 6.10, with WineHQ 0.9.28.

It's a pity because fluidsynth is lightweight and has a nice GUI (qsynth): it's
a perfect midi complement for wine on machines without hw midi functions.

Summary: GetFileAttributes returns wrong error code 123
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.28.
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: felix.huber(a)schyf.de
Winword 6 makes a (wrong) call to GetFileAttributes with the path set to
"C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.AS$". This call returns an error code of 123
(ERROR_INVALID_NAME) which then leads to a fixme:int21:INT21_GetExtendedError
Unknown error 123.
A test with plain DOS or Windows 98 shows that the error code should be 02
(ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND).
The internal wine error code was found to be 0xC0000033 and should probably be
changed to 0xC0000034 or the error mapping table should be changed.

Setting ole32 to (native) only for winword6 still calls the builtin ole32 and

I am seeing the same issue with T42p on Debian Etch. Using the latest ATI fglrx
driver, wine, winecfg and all related commmands fail with page fault [using wine
0.9.25]. I then switched to radeon driver and everything started working fine. I
read about the UseFastTLS option, set it to 2 and now wine is working fine with
the ati driver fglrx. I think this setting should make it into the wine release
notes.

I have one wine tree that has the "overdraw google
earth menus with black starfield" bug, and
another that works great. I'm trying to
narrow down the difference... the trees
are on different (but nominally identical) machines,
so it's possible one system just has the right
build environment, and the other doesn't.

I see...
But anyway, if people want an easy way to at least get it running, this could be
an opportunity. After copying the files, you can always uninstall IEs4Linux.
IEs4Linux doesn't do anything except automatize the installation of a lot of
native Windows components (downloaded from microsoft.com), so I would say that,
in some way, it's not _directly_ related in that way (I think we're still only
talking about Wine + Evil Genius).
Maybe I should try finding out exactly which components are needed by Evil
Genius, and then we can continue from there :) I guess it's just a matter of
trial and error, seeing how many native component I can disable.
I hope this is not a stupid question, but what are your policies about native
Windows files? And... well... I didn't bother to read any of Microsoft's license
agreements to be honest, but is it legal to freely download something from
microsoft.com and use it in a non-Windows environment?
Anyway, I'm still unable to play the game due to the RAM leak. I'm not a skilled
programmer (or Linux user for that sake), so I don't really know how to approach
this problem.
It would be great if someone knowledgeable could help troubleshooting the
problem. I'll gladly spend some more hours trying to find the bug, if anyone has
any suggestion what I should try next.

graphics mode other than High is fine and the game is playable. Not really sure
what to provide when it doesn't seem to have anything that says it went wrong.

about the wrong texture: I see the same thing(only with nvidia card though), but
it happens even if I go back and use an earlier wine version, where it
definitely worked some time ago. So I assume some (X-related) system upgrade is
responsible for this.
And OpenGL isn't initialized at all when the font error happens, so I would
think it's not related to this error.
btw. a much simpler workaround for that font error is to make lsans.fot
immutable with "chattr +i lsans.fot".(You only need to achieve that Civ3 can't
delete that file)
The demo doesn't work at all for me too

RufzXP requires dot net 1.1 (so in a way it depends on bug 5358,
but really maybe we need a dotnet component in bugzilla).
So I ran http://kegel.com/wine/fakedotnet.sh
to create the needed registry entries and install mono,
which should simulate dot net 1.1.
That let RufzXP for dot net 1.1 install.
However, on startup, it crashed with
call to unimplemented function mscoree.dll.CorBindToRuntimeEx, aborting

Hi all,
The screenshot I posted above shows the dialog box you'll get if you wont run
LSANS.fot in the background (see the Civilization 3 Conquests appdb entry -
there should really be a separate bug report for this, although there is a
workaround). The problem here I really wanted to point out, is that previously
that dialog box had proper texturing. Maybe that is related with Civilization 3
Conquests not running at all (even with LSANS.fot running in the background)?
I'm running under wine 0.9.28 and Gentoo. If I run LSANS.fot in the background
I'll get the following (again slightly different) output:
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 16

I'm using the proprietary nvidia drivers (1.0.9631 - the last version that works
on my GeForce4 TI 4800SE). Also, I tried the Civilization 3 demo, but it dies
silently without any output to console.

No this isn't a joke, the application does not connect to the Microsoft Server,
which it should legitimately do, connect before it can scan the registry key's
for wine related keys and tell me my Windows isn't valid. According to the
Microsoft Website GenuineAdvantage.exe should connect to their server, download
a key, scan my hardware, then report that my windows isn't valid, but the
program fails to download the key/connect to their servers.
This program demonstrates valid bugs in the wininet .dll.

If you don't have the native ole32, then the builtin will be loaded, and so the
corresponding 16-bit builtins will be loaded too since they are contained in the
32-bit builtin.
The right solution in that case would be to set ole32 to native only, to make
sure the builtin is never loaded. Though from reading the code I suspect it will
cause the 16-bit dlls to fail to load too, but that one could be fixed.

http://www.linuxforen.de/forums/showthread.php?t=229225http://www.linux-community.de/Neues/story?storyid=21594
So I tried installing their one free demo.
Installation failed at first because it wanted IE 5.0 or higher.
Running fakeie.sh made that happy, so this bug depends on bug 7081.
The next problem was the installer tried to install .net 1.1,
so this bug depends on bug 5358. Fortunately, the installer lets
you continue anyway.
Starting the app fails unless you copy in mfc42.dll
and msvcrti.dll. The next problem is

and registered it with regsrvr32.

I believe new window manager code went into Wine back in 2005 or 2006. I have
since had improved input device support for games. Some regressions and
problems with builds of wine prevent me from trying a heap of programs on it,
but I will give a round of testing for some of the games I had posted here.
I was playing Jedi Outcast with a 0.9.2x build a few months ago. Didn't
experience input problems.

Something new happened today when I tried:

err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateWindow invalid window height -15

err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateWindow invalid window height -15
fixme:win:SendIMEMessageExA (0x2003e,7fe5079a): stub (repeated)
---/
Okay, at this point extend is loaded up, and displays a blank model.
Now I'll begin to hover the mouse pointer over the toolbar, causing tooltips
to appear in a rapid succession. When quick enough this happens:
/---
X Error of failed request: BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 54 (X_FreePixmap)
Resource id in failed request: 0x600b32
Serial number of failed request: 41135
Current serial number in output stream: 41159
---/
And then application crashes. This was with wine 0.9.28, is it
reproduceable? Assuming it is, I set it to 'Critical' now.
Could this be some other problem? I choose wine-comctl32 based on a guess.
/Joel

Andreas, your bug was obviously NOT the same as mine if you had just forgotten
to tick that box on the Graphics tab on winecfg. So I am changing the summary
BACK, thank you.
You will observe the following in the original config file that I posted:
; Allow the window manager to manage created windows
"Managed" = "Y"
The bug that **I** observe is that the game does not regain keyboard focus even
when the mouse pointer is within the window. The "allow window manager to
manage" option is enabled, although the game's window doesn't show any signs of
*being* managed. It starts with keyboard focus, but never regains it once lost.
This bug has definitely NOT been fixed yet, as of wine CVS on 2007-Jan-05.

FWIW, I used a free win32 font viewer program and got the same problem. The
exact cause is that extended ascii characters 130-136 (used to indicate 1/8 -

This is is still an issue with wine version 0.9.28-1.
The drive type of C: or Z: makes no difference.
There is nothing using the sound card (and even if there were it should not make
this a non-bug as there are enough channels on the sound card to go around).

I tried it, and it _almost_ works. Maybe it does for you too.
What I did was installing IEs4Linux from
http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page
After installing IE6, I copied the newly generated files from ~/ies4linux/ie6/
and used them as a base for my Wine environment.
Reason for doing this is that I can't get the Gecko engine to work AT ALL. It
totally crashes the application every time it is loaded.

The trial version of the shareware game Eets (http://
www.eetsgame.com/news/download) crashes with an unhandled
exception. Seems to be related to d3d8 pixel shaders.
I use Ubuntu 6.10 with linux 2.6.17-10-generic, linux 2.6.17-
10-generic, gcc 4.1.2. My wine is from winehqs apt-
repository. However, to debug this I have re-compiled the
0.9.28 deb-package from source to get debug symbols. I have
also tested with latest git (0.9.28-gfa053b7).
When Eets.exe starts it first show a mshtml page with links
to buy the game, enter key or continue. When clicking
continue and the game tries to start the exception occurs.
The backtrace shows that the exceptions is from the return
statement of IDirect3DDevice8Impl_GetPixelShaderFunction.
Attached are traces
(warn+all,trace+d3d,+ddraw,+d3d_shader,fixme+all,err+all)
from 0.9.28 and 0.9.28-gfa053b7

Hi james, just retried and works for me too now... I just found out what the
trouble was, i was running the installer from a directory that didn't exist. So
like:
mkdir /garbage
cd /garbage
rm -rf /garbage
msiexec /i Bufferzone.msi
Then it crashes like in the crash log. Sorry about the noise........i'll try be
more careful next time!

Wine Error
Trying to run the demo now at least changes the screen resolution. But then the
game crashes. The error is different this time however, there are some
err:wgl:...
lines at the end of wine's output.
The Output is attached.

I've made some quick tests with CrossOver Linux Standard Trial 6.0 RC 3. The
application doesn't work correctly but at least starts. I enclose the

I found version 2 of the noteworthy viewer. Here's a side by side screenshot. I
see the boxes that show up in Wine but not in Windows. Is this the problem you
are having? If not, can you post a screenshot?

Two remarks: 1. this dll is not implemented in wine, and will not be implemented
(i guess). So your application has to provide this dll, or you should copy it
over from a windows partition.
2. You should check if the manifest file microsoft.vc80.crt.manifest is present
in the working directory. (maybe 'touch microsoft.vc80.crt.manifest' is already
enough.

I am trying to run a Windows application we created using Visual Studio 2005
(VS8.0). When trying to execute the program, I get the error "MSVCR80.dll
failed to initialize" and it refuses to run. I reloaded the latest version of
wine from source (0.9.28) and expected it would have support for VS8.0. This
dll is specific to the latest VS8.0 and most programs generated under VS8.0
depend on it being there. It appears it is still missing with the latest
release. I have tried "CrossOver" on a trial basis and it works OK. I would
prefer to use wine as I may have more control over it once I get it working. Is
it or will it be available and when? Thanks.
