------- Additional Comments From ville.aakko(a)gmail.com 2007-05-01 12:12 -------
I disagree with comment #31.
The problem I've described is identical to this bug IMHO. The cursor hangs
exatcly as described by the original reporter. Although the description gives
the impression the hang happens right away in the main manu, in comments #2 and
#20, and the two most recent test result entries in the appdb, give the
impression that the main menu might work OK. That's what I'm experiencing also,
and wanted to make it clear in comment #30, so that possible tries to reproduce
the bug are done further than in the main menu. Also I believe my observation
about the effect of STOP and CONT kill signals is consistent with comments #6
and #21 (I believe going to the logout menu gives stop kill signal for all GUI
processes).
Just to make sure, I tried the patch from #31 in wine 0.9.28, and also compiled
from the newest CVS (was too lazy to install GIT, but I believe the newest CVS
is the same as GIT for now). It had no effect on this bug.
Instead, bug #6033 is totally different to what I described in comment #30.
Fallout 2 newer hangs the input totally (only makes it slow and inaccurate)
whereas in Moo2 it does. I believe that bug #6033 should not be linked to Moo2
in appdb.

Summary: Page Fault on "Learn to Speak German"

Platform: PC-x86-64

"Learn to Speak German" ( http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=4395 ) is
prone to a Page Fault when placed in the background. Basically, if you
foreground any window (firefox, kate, or konsole), the application will crash
and a page fault appears in the log.
I have attached the console output as a txt attachment. Ping the bug if you
need better debug output or a copy of the application.
Thank you for your time,
Frank Russo
One thing of note. I have to uncheck "let window manager handle application" in
wincfg in order to run this application.

Summary: Weatherscope filtering of combo boxes is broken
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.28.
Platform: Other
URL: http://sdg.ocs.ou.edu/builds/final/win/WeatherScope/Weat
herScope-1.4.1.exe
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-comctl32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rmay(a)ou.edu
Weatherscope uses a text entry field as a filter to eliminate choices in a combo
box. Under wine, this behavior is broken. With a blank filter (empty text
entry), no options are displayed in the combo box, though all possible options
should be displayed. As text is typed into the filter text entry, the options
in the combo box should be updated instantly, which does not happen under wine
(this behavior used to work, but broke under wine in Weatherscope 1.4.x). If I
double click enough times on the filter text entry, the combox box does
eventually update. Also, If I click another element on the dialog, and then
click back to the filter, the combo box will (usually) update.
As an example to reproduce this bug, run Weatherscope, and click on the product
menu and select New Radar. (This menu may be hidden by a black bar due to OpenGL
child window clipping issues, but click around enough, and you can find it. I
also find that alt-tabbing to another application and tabbing back will make the
menubar visible.) You will see an empty text entry field labelled "filter" and
an empty combo box labelled "site" which should list _all available_ radar
sites. Enter the text "ok" into the filter should cause the combo box to show
only those radar sites that contain the text "ok", but nothing happens. Some
combination of clicking on the site combo box and clicking back to the filter
text entry or double clicking the text entry should cause the combo box to
eventually update, showing 7 different radar sites available in the combo box.
Weatherscope is freely available at the above URL.

Changing the name again to be more generic as this is an issue with most apps
(over time you'll find you have about a 60/40 split of apps that have Icons for
their shortcuts and apps that don't).
Does anyone else think this should be on the Wine 1.0 task list milestone? (it's
kinda a major aesthetic issue).

to be required on windows as well). I still get this problem in Weatherscope

Unfortunately, this is the most recent version of wine that I have readily
available. More unfortunate is the fact that I don't have enough time to spend
on getting to the root cause, although I've spent considerable time on this in
the past. If someone is willing to spend some time with me on this, I can be
persuaded to dive back in (although it might be time consuming just to get to a
point where I'm able to do any real debugging work - i.e., set up a working cvs
version).
I can't verify this, but after looking at the patch, it seems to me that I tried
it to no avail. If this bug becomes active again, I could give it another shot.
However, after refreshing my memory on C syntax, it doesn't look like it will
work in the case provided above (both height and width are huge). (It looks like
it just prevents the message if one of the height or width is zero. Am I
reading this right? It's been a while since I've used C...)
This is a real pain when printing checks, but the checks do print (the crash is
after sending the spool file). I just have to manually enter the check numbers
- after re-launching Quicken, of course...
HTH,
Carl

FPS is really low (1-2FPS) and the game crashes after a minute of play because
of what appears to be 1-2 sec. delays in glsl_shader.c although that might not
be the real problem... I'm in the process of generating an error log. More
clues about the delays may be revealed with sysprof utility.

No. When I launch another kind of software, which open a file from their very
own directory, I do not observe the same behaviour.
For instance, using a software like Whereisit, works perfectly with the command
line
wine "c:\Program Files\Whereisit\whereisit.exe"
but
wine "c:\Program Files\UBS e-banking\UBSPay\UBSPay.exe"
It could be related to the software itself, I don't know.

>The reason I am posting here is because my bug has been RESOLVED as a DUPLICATE
of this one, because the error is the same 'Unable to get ShortPath size' thing.
Other bugs related to installation failures of MS Office 2002 and 2003 also have
been marked as RESOLVED - DUPLICATE of this one.
'Unable to get ShortPath size' is a message for developers that really doesn't
mean much anymore; it's certainly not a bug. Someone went a little dup crazy on
this bug. Read comment 12.
> Maybe this bug could change its description,
Nope.
> because currently its description makes it look like it's a problem specific
to MSVC, while it's not.
Yes it is. That's why we have a wine bugzilla standard of naming bug reports
after the problem, not what's causing the problem in the code. Someone came
along and saw the same 'err:' message and marked all the bugs as dup's when
they're more than likely not dup's.

DUPLICATE of this one, because the error is the same 'Unable to get ShortPath
size' thing.
Other bugs related to installation failures of MS Office 2002 and 2003 also
have been marked as RESOLVED - DUPLICATE of this one.
Maybe this bug could change its description, because currently its description
makes it look like it's a problem specific to MSVC, while it's not.
I have kept filing the install logs to raise the awareness that this same
problem affects other apps as well, and to keep feedback available about the
evolution of the bug, because the devs themselves might not have the
installation files of the apps involved, which can make debuging a little bit
harder...

I tried the demo with wine-git and the first time it asked me to set audio
acceleration to emulation. I did that and the game started. The graphics are
messed up, but it did not crash. I also ran it in wine 0.9.24 and that worked too.

Please keep bug postings in bugzilla. I used git wine. The app didn't work,
but that doesn't mean it didn't install correctly. For the app not working, you
need to open a bug report that says "app x doesn't work", being more specific of
course.

Use the OSS driver for now, the ALSA driver is currenty buggy and causes deadlocks.

Summary: "Ultima Online - Mondain's Legacy" client 5.0.2e (patch
31) hangs after a while when sound is activated and ALSA
plugin is used
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.28.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P3
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: arekfu(a)yahoo.it
CC: arekfu(a)yahoo.it
Sound effects hang the UO-ML client in an apparently random way. I marked the
bug as critical because one is forced to kill the process at this point.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Download the game from http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/uo/uoml_setup.exe
2) Install it with "wine uoml_setup.exe"
3) Run the game
4) Move around quickly to produce a lot of footstep sounds
Actual result:
The game runs fine for a while (about 1 min if you walk around continuously) and
then hangs, with the last few fraction of seconds of the sound effect repeating
indefinitely.
Expected result:
The game should not hang :-)
Using wine 0.9.28 on Debian Linux, precompiled binary package 0.9.28-1.
I could not reproduce the bug using WINEDEBUG=+relay. The game still hangs every
now and then, but only for a second or so, and then comes back to life.

Many applications refuse to install unless
registry keys for IE4, 5, or 6 are installed.
These registry keys should probably be set by the
Gecko autodownload process, there should probably
be an easy way to trigger Gecko installation
(it's not triggered at the moment by these installers),
and packaged Wine should probably come with Gecko preinstalled.

Just to make sure, I'll elaborate the problem (I thought someone already did,
but couldn't find it anymore above, so it is possible others miss it too); the
mouse doesn't stop moving in every part of the game, at least on my setup. For
example, the main menu works OK, as does the main galaxy screen, and Colony
screen. But there are problems in at least the following:
- New game screen (galaxy size, age, number of players etc. selection screen)
- Load game
- Custom race creation
- Game menu (the button in the top of the screen in main game screen)
In these screens the mouse (i.e. the MOO2 cursor - system cursor still moves)
and keyboard input hangs after a few seconds. In my experience it doesn't matter
if you actually try to interface with the game or not when it's about to hang
(it's as if there is a timer or a buffer that get's filled up). Stopping the
game process (or wineserver) for a while and continuing it makes the mouse move
for a few seconds again. Sometimes clicks and keypresses done after the hang are
registered after giving CONT signal. The same applies for the keyboard. Also
note that the game doesn't seem to actually hang or crash (music continues
playing), the problem is only that no input gets registred by the game, making
it unplayable. It's actually difficult to say if the game has hung or not,
because most of the game graphics are static (i.e. mouse cursor is the only
moving part in the game usually), but given that successive STOP and CONT
signals kind of work around the problem suggests there is only problems in the
input handling (?).
I'm also using wine 0.9.28, on Gentoo and Kernel 2.6.19, glibc 2.4 and gcc
4.1.1. Adrian, what is the current glibc and gcc version in Debian?
As for bug #881, I'm also experiencing that and have been AFAICR. That bug is
way older than this one.

Try again under 0.9.28. Make sure to switch your DirectDrawRenderer to 'opengl'
(http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys) and it should be back up to full
speed. The game should also start and run fine (although it does seem to have an
issue with randomly locking up but that's a seperate matter).

Starcraft seems to be fine for everyone these days with the "slowdown" being the
only issue. Closing as fixed unless you want to show that it's still broken with
the current version of Wine. "Wizard" that was an old version even back then,
you needed to update.

I'll try the game later today if I get a chance. I remember the game would crash

I reinstalled the game using the official installer instead of the loki
installer (http://liflg.org/). I also upgraded to the latest git
I installed the radio mp3s too (aka the Vice City Radio Station). The music
started to work in the audio _menu_ but when I started to play the game, it was
cracking again, like the most of the audio. Seems that only the "action" sounds
(see above) are working (mostly) okay.
My DirectSound settings:
Hardware Acceleration: Full
Default sample rate: 22050
Default bits per sample: 8
Driver: ALSA (I haven't compiled the OSS support into kernel and I'm really not
willing to)
--
Olaf, with "I only hear", are you meaning that you don't hear the sounds at all
or is it cracky?
BTW, if you're having (any of) these sound problems, could you confirm this bug?
Thanks alot!

wine-0.9.28, cut scenes in general are okay for me. But the game somtimes stops
randomly for about one second - also in cut scenes.
I also see the textures-problem.
Furthermore I noticed that the shift-keys are swapped (pressing left shift emits
a signal for right-shift and vice versa)

Well, the depth buffer is shared between onscreen and offscreen in D3D, so it's
probably the device's implicit depth buffer that's bound to the FBO. If depth
testing is disabled we might be able to skip the copy, although we would have to
take care to copy it anyway if that state is later enabled again.

Remove depth_blt does help since the slowdown actually occurs when calling
glVertex (so it must be the very texture access in the shader, it helps removing
it), as I forgot to mention. I can't reproduce such a condition that causes the
slowdown using OpenGL myself, but it seems Cedega can ...
But I don't understand why the depth blit has to happen in the first place since
I haven't bound an offscreen depth surface (only did SetRenderTarget(0,
texSurface), not enabled depth testing, and the result isn't any different when
removing the depth_blt (although this could be because of the simplicity of the
program).
And in this context I don't fully understand the (purpose of the) function, to
me it looks like the onscreen depth buffer is copied to texture and then the
depth values of the texture are written to the FBO depth surface, which isn't
bound, that means back to the onscreen depth buffer ?

I'm not the original author of this bug, but i have a similar problem with
winecfg. No font at all is showing up (just some underlines at where the hotkeys
are located i believe)
I've attached a screenshot "winecfg with missing font"
I also installed fontforge, but it didn't make a difference. If that helps: in
xwine the fonts show up just fine.
This first occured when i updated wine a half year (sorry, i don't have the
version nubmer) or so ago and didn't change since then. I'm now using 0.8.28.

the VB code:
MSFlexGrid1.AddItem "row1" & vbTab & "1" & vbTab & "comment1" & vbTab & usern1"
MSFlexGrid1.AddItem "row2" & vbTab & "2" & vbTab & "comment2" & vbTab & "usern2"
MSFlexGrid1.AddItem "row3" & vbTab & "3" & vbTab & "comment3" & vbTab & "usern3"
runs fine under windows, but crashes under wine. Attachment is a complied

You can always install wine_gecko using 'wine iexplore http://winehq.org'
And even if that doesn't work for you - manually extract wine_gecko.cab into
c:\Program Files
This is minor problem of installing wine_gecko on-time.

I believe this bug is also the source of problems for Terragen2. It is a 3D
landscape generation tool that has some OpenGL windows within the interface. It
seems to function just fine except for the GUI widgets disappearing.
I'm on a Gentoo system, Nvidia GLX, last tested using Wine-0.9.28
Terragen2 can be freely downloaded to test against Wine if you would like:

Summary: Grand Theft Auto Vice City (GTA VC) graphic (dinput/d3d)
problems
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.rockstargames.com/vicecity/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rchayster(a)gmail.com
Grand Theft Auto Vice City actually has quite of some graphic problems with
WINE, here's the listing:
* Some textures are just black or not detailed
* Cut scenes are very slow to render, possibly because the sound problems ( see
the bug #7074 )
* The sun is not usually working, at least not properly. There might be darkness
in the middle of day.
Using the native dinput.dll and dinput8.dll won't do any good.
Here's the output from the bug #7074
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=4495&action=view
The git is 2006-12-31 and I'll be compiling a recent version shortly. I just
doubt it makes any difference.

Summary: Grand Theft Auto Vice City (GTA VC) audio problems
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.rockstargames.com/vicecity/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dsound
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rchayster(a)gmail.com
Grand Theft Auto Vice City has some serious problems with the audio. Seems that
the only audio working properly are the "action" sounds like fighting, shooting,
car crash, etc.
Other audio like car music and speech is very cracky, which may be (the part of)
the reason why the cut scenes are terrible slow to render (I will post a
separate bug report about the graphics problems later). Using native dsound.dll
crashes the game with an "unhandled exception" and using the native dinput.dll
and dinput8.dll aren't doing much good either.
I'm using the git from 2006-12-31. I'm going to compile a newer version shortly,
but I don't think there is a lot of the difference.

I originally started with version 0.9.28 with very little success. I was told
that there was a regression with any version north of 0.9.15, upon hearing that
I purposely downgraded and actually made more progress than with 0.9.28. If I
must choose a bug, even though I mentioned them not knowing if they were
related, I choose to have the video bug resolved first, then i'll submit a bug
for the "??? exceptional error". Thank you for your prompt response, I do
appreciate that.

This could caused by one of the many things you did wrong. Does your NTFS drive
even have write support enabled? As what Dejan said, DO NOT use root, do NOT run
from a Windows partition directly.
Closing as invalid. Feel free to re-open this if the same issues occur after
installing it WITH WINE onto the fake windows drive inside Wine and as a user,
not root.

I've written a DX9 program with wineLib which tries something similar, rendering
to a texture and then painting this texture onto a primitve and I could
reproduce this rendering-gets-stuck (slowness) issue, although this time it
turns out it occurs when copying to texture in the depth_copy function when FBO
is enabled (where the output visual is correct), and doesn't when using
backbuffer for offscreen rendering (but the result is different, I see what was
rendered to texture and not the surface with the texture on it with backbuffer,
or both). Maybe the slowness is really a graphics driver bug ...
When not setting the TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER parameter in depth_copy the slowness is
gone but I don't see anything (FBO).
As for the black background in NFSMW, enabling the save texture to file stuff in
drawprim shows that all textures that have been rendered to and are subsequently
used for rendering are plain white.

Bug dependency is when one bug blocks resolution of the other one. If anything,
then this crash should block the graphics glitch (because you can't get to it).
But if you can, then it's not blocked, and can be worked on at the same time.

I'm sorry - I'm a bit confused now.
I asked on IRC how to handle this situation and was told by Enverex to depend
the new bug on this one. I explicitly asked, because I was unsure whether to
file 7071 or not, as 7064 needs to be fixed in order for developers to verify
7071 (you can't really verify a graphical glitch if the game crashes before you
see any graphics).
So - how else do I tell developers that a bug can only be verified when another
bug is fixed first? Or should I (contrary to what was said on IRC) not file bugs
like 7071 in the first place?

First, i don't know, whether this is the right category, because i have no idea,
what part is failing. Anyway:
This game does not work: It does not start.
I will try to debug this, but i have no experience in debugging wine, so this
might fail.

Tested this app on behalf of another user who was having the same issue with
PhotoImpact 10. I tried version 12 and had the same issue.
When the program starts it complains that "Unable to read version information
from the file "C:\Program Files\Ulead PhotoImpact 12\Iedit_.dat". Insufficient
memory or system resources low." and then errors out immediately afterwards.
Oddly enough there don't seem to be any errors written to the terminal when the
applications error message comes up.

ReportedBy: cyberfrag(a)gmx.net
Starting with one of the major D3D changes introduced last year (I think it was
between 0.9.15 and 0.9.16), Drakan started to draw "additional shadows" for
shadow-casting characters (I'll attach a screenshot).
The problem definitely didn't exist in version 0.9.12 and it is yet unfixed in
version 0.9.28.
I'll try to verify whether this happened between 0.9.15 and 0.9.16

I managed to reproduce the first part of the problem.
1. clean wine installation
2. install delphi5
3. wine c:/Program\ Files/Borland/Delphi5/Bin/delphi32.exe
4. go to form view
5. drag quickrep object (in QReport tab) to the form
I immediately get these errors:

Tried WAR as suggested in bug 4561 and added Option "UseFastTLS" "2" in Device
section. Same problem.
This has not been seen on earlier combinations of wine/fglrx, as I have used ie6
under Wine/linux for some time due to Siebel apps.

Rick G. from the NWC2 forum told me it can come out from the fact that it's a
_Symbol_ font, but my knowledge doesn't go that far:
Quote from: my font editor (Softy) documentation
When assigning codes for the Microsoft map, these should be Unicode values.
Windows remaps these when the font is installed. For Symbol fonts, which should
have codes starting at 0xf020, Windows assumes that the first character
corresponds to a space (code 0x20, decimal 32), then that the next 223 character
codes map to (decimal) 33-255. 0xf000 is added to the input value when a glyph
is mapped to a character in this context. For UGL character sets, the following
mappings are made to produce the Windows ANSI character set where the Unicode
value is not the same as the Windows character set value.
