Summary: starting win32-version of tomcat fails with a "jvm_bind"
or "java.util.TimeZone.getTimeZone" error message
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.27.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-console
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

the command
wine "jre\bin\java.exe" -Xss2m -Xmx133M -
Djava.endorsed.dirs="tomcat\common\endorsed" -
classpath "jre\lib\tools.jar;tomcat\bin\bootstrap.jar" -
Dcatalina.base="tomcat" -Dcatalina.home="tomcat" -Djava.io.tmpdir="tmp"
org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap start
tries to start a win32-verion of JRE (Java Runtime Environment version 1.4/1.5
or 1.6) and a win32-version of Apache TomCat (version 5.5).
This Command works on a windows-System (without calling wine).
Under WINE tomcat throws two error messages:
1. JVM_Bind-Error: Address already in use (message is incorrect, port is not
used!) (with JRE 1.4 or 1.6!)
2. java.util.TimeZone.getTimeZone error message (only with JRE 1.5!)
Operating System: SUSE Linux 10.1
with newest WINE (wine-0.9.27-SuSELinux102.i586.rpm) and WINETOOLS (winetools-
0.9-3jo.i386.rpm).
How to make it:
1. create a new empty directory
2. copy a win32-version of JRE (or JDK with JRE) in the subdirectory "jre"
3. copy a win32-version of tomcat in the subdir "tomcat"
4. create an empty subdir "temp"
5. call the command line specified before...
A solution for the problem were nice...!?

However while playing with this today, I have found that unchecking the

When trying to run Simcity 3000, I would run wine SC3.EXE , a window would come
up for where the game would be displayed, I'd say an 800x600 box, the intro
shows up really grainy, and compressed into the left side of about a third of
the size of the 800x600 display box. I then go to click, to focus on the window
trying to see what options I have to fix the resolution of the game, it then
crashes with a box popping up saying "??? Exceptional Error". Then I can't do
anything more. Looking at my console I see the following:

I have seen something similar: only, the environment does not go
black---instead, it reverts to a much earlier state. That is, one could walk
through a door, and then press a button---but the video of the button being
pressed would play against the background of the room that one was in before
walking through the door.
Very disappointing, for a game which is rated Gold...
Tried this using both wine 0.9.28 and wine 0.9.22, got the same behaviour.

An Update:
Paf creates a combo (not comboex), which creates a sub edit/list.
Afterwards, Paf creates a richedit20 with the parent of the combo, so it goes on
top of the previous edit.
So there's some interaction going on between those windows.
And oddly, the first edit control's parent was changed to the parent of the
combo, but no SetParent() call did that.
Which might explain why some EN_CHANGE notifications don't get filtered out by
the code in combo.c.

This time a tested patch!
Direct Music is less implemented than I thought. This patch just returns a
valid format and buffer size so Direct Sound won't crash. The format doesn't
matter because this port can't be added to a performance yet anyway.
This has been tested with the demo version downloaded from the supplied URL
above.
Sound plays fine for me. The graphics runs at about 4 seconds per frame so the
game is unplayable for me.

We don't officially support sidenet, anyway.
I bet this was a problem caused by the custom build,
as suggested by Duane. Closing as invalid.
If the problem recurs with a recent official
build of wine, please open a new bug.

Bad me. I'm sorry James. Seems the demo works but the full game doesn't. Hidden
and Dangerous 2 is also effected if you can get your hands on it. The full
version of SWAT4 dies when copying DNA.utx (which the demo doesn't seem to
install). I forgot I hadn't tried the demo, something likely sidetracked me,
it's worth playing though ;)

He wasn't using git wine. Nathan, if you upgrade to git wine and the bug still
exists, reopen this report. Also, it looks like you're running the installer
from a CD, which can be different than a downloadable demo installer. Does the
demo have the same problem as the CD installer?

A little update: (so Thunderbird won't forget this bug ;))
>From the MSDN page:
If any of the following flags are set, ChoosePixelFormat attempts to match pixel
formats that also have that flag or flags set. Otherwise, it attempts to match
pixel formats without that flag set:
PFD_DOUBLEBUFFER
PFD_STEREO
So that's exactly what's the problem in this bug. I'll await the fix ;)

I'd reclassify this to Major if it affected all Delphi apps but this bug seems
long dead and no-ones kicked up a fuss about all Delphi apps not working so
switching it to normal.
Does anyone want to test this else it'll be switched to ABANDONED (to be honest
it looks like it may have been a buggy app in the first place or long since fixed).

Closing this as fixed. The original issues in this bug were resolved a while
back now, my issue was due to the game asking for a DLL that makes it crash
(d3dx9d_24.dll rather than d3dx9_24.dll).
Only game issues now are copy protection (already has its own bug) and specific
in -game graphical glitches that are being worked on and are not in the scope of
this rather vague bug. (I'll be opening up bugs when I test Stringfellow's
patches for them later).
Alex: Shame the full game actually has lots of graphical issues (at least 1.41
does).

Summary: Drakan crashes with a page fault

Version: 0.9.24.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx

ReportedBy: cyberfrag(a)gmx.net
The game "Drakan: Order of the Flame" stopped working sometime between wine
version 0.9.20 and version 0.9.24. Previously the game would show introductory
videos and load the menu (though keyboard input was not recognized since
sometime before 0.9.16). In recent versions the screen blanks, but the game
crashes immediately afterwards with an unhandled exception.
I'll post the console output and afterwards do some regression testing...

Also, having taken the time to try it out myself, the installer works fine. You
need to put msvcp60.dll and msvcirt.dll into windows/system32 in order to run
the app. If you still can't get it to work, then you need to be more specific
about what exactly you're doing and which files are not in the right

If I press any button in HL start menu (HL1, not HL2) nothing changes, and on
the screen there is still main menu. I think wine opens new window with submenu,
but don't give focus there.
How it can be bypass now:
I open any other task (gnome-terminal for example), run HL. Then, on main menu I
press, say, "New game", then press "Alt-Tab" to switch to gnome terminal, then
again "Alt-Tab", and voila! -- I'm in menu when I need to choose game difficulty.
I have Fedora Core 6 (2.6.18-1.2868.fc6), wine 0.9.28, compiled from sources.
PS. By the way, In OpenGL mode there is a bug with blood and other marks on the
wall. On my GeForce all these marks are flashing.
But I think it is not a bug of wine. Under Windows I can see same troubles. 8-(

Heh,
It seems I forgot to put do and done into my while loop:
while true ; do killall -STOP wineserver ; sleep 0.2s ; killall -CONT wineserver
; sleep 5s ; done
It seems the above loop doesn't work always (don't know why). You might need to
increase the first sleep timeout, but you wont get good gameplay with this
"solution" anyways :P
Also sorry for my terrible english, it seems that tonight it's especially bad
for some reason.

I tried MOO2 in with older wine versions, and it seems this bug persists even
with wine versions as old as 0.9.8 (coudln't compile any older wine, probably
because of current gcc issues with old code).
AFAICR, Moo2 used to work on some wine versions past that, but now it doesn't.
Could it be that something else has been updated on most distributions, and that
makes wineserver misbehave with Moo2? I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if
this is possible - just my 2 cents...
Can anyone confirm the last wine version in which Moo2 used to work (or works)?
BTW, since stopping and continuing wineserver makes the cursor move for a few
seconds if it hangs, Moo2 is kind of playable with 'while true ; killall -STOP
wineserver ; sleep 0.2s ; killall -CONT wineserver ; sleep 5s' ;)

Please do not paste _attach_ logs instead. You can create attachment after you
created a bug report.
It seems you had old/broken ~/.wine directory. Please (re)move it, make sure it
is removed, and reinstall your game.
Also one problem per bug report. If think there is something really wrong with
installer - open a separate bug. But if you just see error/fixme messages in the
terminal, you can ignore them.

richedit trace
I'm using version 5.2.18.
Attached is a trace of richedit while interacting with the editable combo.
An EN_CHANGE notification is sent from riched20, in which case paf does a
completion based on text entered with the keyboard. Doing the completion
causes some recursive behavior in which the new completion is reverted to the
old text.
If it was empty before, it ends with an empty richedit. If it had text in it
before (can be done by selecting from the combo list), it reverts to what was
in there before, or sometimes to garbage.
I'm still looking at this, but I wouldn't mind another set of eyes.

After installing MOO2 with some odd reports (refer to second shell message) and
updating to 1.31 manually, I ran Orion95.exe in the console (wine
.wine/drive_c/Orion2/Orion95.exe). I had set winecfg to windows 95 and left
other options to default. When I ran MOO2 a message appeared saying that
"fonts.lbx [entry 0] could not be found" after a black screen popped up. The
shell reported these errors:

Summary: The game Locomotion crashes on startup (after drawing an
empty desktop window) due to an unhandled page fault.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.27.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: matthew.king(a)monnsta.net
The game Locomotion crashes on startup (after drawing an empty desktop window)
due to an unhandled page fault.
This previously happened when I had a USB sound card plugged in (and therefore
two cards listed in /proc/asound/cards) and would work fine when it was removed.
Now I have a new motherboard with an on-board sound card which is disabled (by
forcing the module not to load) and the bug is still present. I am not sure if
it is directly related to sound but my previous symptoms indicate it might be.
I assume there will be an attach button later to put a stack dump in but in the
meantime some (possibly) relevant system data:
CPU: Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
RAM: 2GB
OS: Debian sid
Kernel: 2.6.18-3-amd64
Wine: 0.9.27-1 (i386 binary in pure64 environment)
Wine: 0.9.12~winehq2~ubuntu~6.06-1 (i386 binary in i386 chroot)
ie. Both wine builds have this problem.
Locomotion is installed in /home/mking, /home is an NFS mount
I *think* I have updated Locomotion to 1.76, either way Windows reports the exe
is version 4.2.168.0.
I am using a (the?) no-cd crack. MD5s:
f7972463d73165df9c411cfc3bf8a25b Loco.exe
8b8c76f6c35ad48549616b82942ee2cb Loco.orig.exe
Loco.orig.exe does not crash but quits when it cannot find the CD that is not
there. Which reminds me - I now have 2 CD drives which I did not before. Next
boot I will disable the new one and followup with the results.
