Use '-dxlevel 70' command line option or 'mat_dxlevel 70' console command.
80 might work too.

This fixes the problem with the reflection rendering in the skybox, but doesn't
have any effect on the water. It also slows rendering by about 75%, to the point
that the game is unplayable.

That's a registry setting now.
HKCU/Software/Wine/Direct3D/OffscreenRenderingMode, set it to "pbuffer" to
enable pbuffers, "fbo" for framebuffer objects. Anything else will use the
backbuffer for offscreen rendering. "fbo" should in theory work best, but right
now that doesn't work for HL2.

pbuffer_support is not a variable in the file mentioned in the above posts. Any

I'm seeing this too, OpenSuSE 10.2, Wine 0.9.24. (Stock kernel/wine/make from
their repo.) Tried wine 0.9.26, 0.9.27, and 0.9.28 too, same. Backtrace looks
like attachment 4166 (eip 0x40000412 with nothing in bt). `ldd /usr/bin/wine`
looks similar to comment 18 (the high word of the addresses are the same, not in
the range of the EIP). `ldd /usr/bin/wine-pthread` is similar.
Running kernel with noexec=off, doesn't help. I'm on an AthlonXP 1600+ so
there's no hardware NX support.
Strangely, it works fine again if I downgrade GNU make to 3.80... (It comes
with make 3.81 by default)

Please try using provided on the CD-ROM msvcrt.dll

At the end of the first level, Half Life 2 Episode One crashes. The program
throws an error that says: "failed to lock index buffer in

Other than that it runs great-- most notably, better than it does under cedega

I get this bug- and for me the circumstances that create it are
reproducible/predictable.
It happens when HL2 crashes or the wine server is killed.
I have found that it will be fixed by gracefully loading and then exiting steam,
then reloading it again.

Run 'wineserver -k' to make sure Wine is not running.
Upgrade to Wine 0.9.28 and try again.
Also make sure to 'cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files$ ll NoteWorthy\ Composer\

If the problem still occurs, run Wine with the following command and attach
/tmp/wine_log.txt to this bug report:

------- Additional Comments From ns03ja(a)brocku.ca 2006-31-12 00:30 -------
More specifically, it seems that just compiling dlls/gdi32/freetype.c with gcc
4.1.1 is enough to trigger this issue.
I compiled a full tree with gcc 3.4.6, then reconfigured for gcc 4.1.1,
removed each dlls/gdi32/*.o one at a time and ran make again in that
directory, until IWD stopped working again.

------- Additional Comments From ns03ja(a)brocku.ca 2006-30-12 23:47 -------
It looks like this is actually caused by Wine being compiled with GCC 4. If I
compile Wine with GCC 3.4 instead, IWD starts up properly (though it needs to
be run in a virtual desktop).
More specifically, when gdi32 is compiled with gcc 4.1.1, IWD no longer starts
up. To determine this, I compiled a full tree with gcc 3.4.6, then went
through the dlls one by one and compiled each one with gcc 4.1.1 until IWD
wouldn't start up anymore.

It can be tested with the existing dlls/ole32/tests/storage32.c. When running
the tests on Windows, it falsely states that the test failed (a file does not
get created but the test incorrectly expects it to). When running the test on
Wine, it falsely states that the test succeeded (a file does get created as the
test incorrectly expects it to).
The proposed changes are:
in the dlls/ole32/tests/storage32.c, lines 391-397:
/* try opening a nonexistent file - it should not create it */
stgm = STGM_DIRECT | STGM_SHARE_EXCLUSIVE | STGM_READWRITE;
r = StgOpenStorage( filename, NULL, stgm, NULL, 0, &stg);
if (r==S_OK) IStorage_Release(stg);
ok(!is_existing_file(filename), "StgOpenStorage should not create a new
file\n");
DeleteFileW(filename);
In the dlls/ole32/storage32.c, remove lines 6038 to 6045 that create a file if
it does not exist.

That patch is a hack of course. You need to figure out why source size is bigger.
And why can't you just do:
sbuf += min(width, slock.Pitch);
dbuf += min(width, dlock.Pitch);
This all reaquires testing.

Summary: Oblivion installer hangs.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.28.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ben.foote(a)gmail.com
Oblivion installs perfectly on older versions of wine(tested with 0.9.24) but
trying to install it with the new release of wine(0.9.28) causes the installer
to hang when extracting files.
The installer starts fine, walks you through the steps, but once it starts
extracting files, wine will hang randomly part way through the install process.
I tried installing from DVD, as well as copying the install files to my HD, no
luck.
I filed this as a major bug because its a regression from a previously working
feature.

Since the user has not posted a reply in several months, I will just assume he
had progress bars enabled. This makes the program freeze: fixmes for the
debug system are printed on the console, and the application window does not
respond or redraw. There are no console messages related to the progress
bars, however.
Steps to reproduce:
- Start DC++
- Open the hub list and connect to a hub
- Right-click on a user and select 'View file list'
This should freeze the program instantly.

I run wine 0.9.22 on a Gentoo Linux machine.
The installation program to the program that casuses the call failure can be
founde here:
http://www.handelsbanken.se/shb/inet/icentsv.nsf/vlookuppics/installation_p…
As a side note, I had an earlier version of this w2k application running w/o
any problems on top of wine.

I'm also seeing this issue, IWD crashes very early on, before showing any game
menu or anything. I wasn't able to get this working on any older Wine versions
though, I tested 0.9.{10,14,15,16,17,18,20} and today's git both with and
without virtual desktop. I also tried patching IWD to 1.06, which didn't seem
to help.
IWD2 works fine (starts up at least) with most versions of Wine for me though,
including today's git.
Debug output to follow...

It's weird, but I finally installed it. I made a new .wine directory, and
Dreamweaver installed just fine.
My old "drive_c" directory was made by winetools, under an old wine release. I
think my issue was related to this configuration.
(I tried your patch before making a new attempt, checked the regedit to be sure
about the implementation, but no luck again. Thanks Dan.)

It's probably looking for something like
IE6 to be installed on your computer before
allowing the installer to run.
You could try running http://kegel.com/wine/fakeie.sh.txt
to fake that out, but it could also be looking for
a bunch of other things. It'll take some digging
in the +msi log (and probably a few other flags) to tell.

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major

It has to be related to the last release of Wine (running 0.9.28) since I
haven't read anything to this kind of installation issue.
When running Dreamweaver 8 installation exe, after a while, I get an error
message "the exploitation system is not adapted for running Macromedia 8"

nothing has been changed on my computer.
If I try to launch the .msi directly, here is the console log :

I'm closing this bug - sorry for noise. It's a duplicate of bug 4860.
The software uses j2re1.4.2, and has it's own copy. I removed this, symlinked in
my own j2re1.5.0_10 and it installs, installing it's own version of java as well.
Adding my Digital Certificate should allow me to log on, but no joy so far.
https://www.ros.ie/java/javachecker.jsp
shows no java :-(. But that's not a wine issue.

I can't test it because the last couple of releases of Wine wouldn't even
start on my system anymore. There's some GDI deadlock:
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x155460 "?" wait timed out in
thread 000c, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x605b18a0 "gdiobj.c: GDI_level"
wait timed out in thread 0009, blocked by 000c, retrying (60 sec)
andreas@bthunder> err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x155460 "?" wait
timed out in thread 000c, blocked by 0009, retrying (60 sec)
Maybe it's because I ran the uninstalled version with the "wine"-wrapper
script rather than installing it first, but I have little inclination to
install a version without knowing whether _anything_ will work with it.
I don't remember which was the first version that broke like this, but
generally speaking Wine was a catastrophe for me ever since the 0.9 release:
frequently the source wouldn't even compile without errors and I could
literally watch how fewer and fewer things worked with each release; so now
it's completely dead, at least it can't get worse. Over the course of
three years of using it I haven't come across a single game that worked
with newer releases, but many that ceased to work, at least temporarily.
The last usable version for me was 0.9.8 and frankly, I've pretty much
given up on Wine at this stage, at least on this machine.

The eMule webinterface problem persists with Wine 0.9.28.
I tried using native ws2_32, wsock32, ws2help, wininet libraries from Windows
2000 but unfortunately eMule fails to create any sockets then. Maybe someone can
tell how to use the native libraries?

Have you tried enabling visual treatment and overbright in the game (both
together)? The whole scene is black then (for me), but if I revert the patch it
becomes visible again - but semi-transparent, although with only Visual
Treatment and no Overbright its black in both cases.
I couldn't try this before (see http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6997),
and just noticed if I set OffscreenRenderMode to fbo I avoid the slowness that
somehow results with high VisualTreatment (preventing me from testing) (at least
on 2 GeForce FX GPUs I tested) as result of the backbuffer contents being copied
back to a texture.
It's possible that the blackness is NOT caused by the blending though, needs to
be investigated further, I guess.

Whatever it is, it's outdated. The game runs fine for me (0.9.28), so this

While in base 10 mode, use UDM_SETRANGE to set the range to [-10, 10]. Then
switch to base 16 mode. Since numbers are unsigned in base 16, the range should
become [A, 0xFFFFFFF6]. On Wine, the range is [0, A], [0xFFFFFFF6, 0xFFFFFFFF].
Also, the numbers are not formatted correctly: 0x5000 gets displayed as 5,000.

ReportedBy: thestig(a)google.com
I'm trying to write automated tests using Autohotkey and Cspy 1.00. Autohotkey's
"Click" and "MouseClick" commands generate mouse_event() calls to simulate
moving and clicking the mouse.
On Windows, interacting with the control window in any Cspy application works
perfectly. On Wine, when using mouse_event(), the controls react to mouse
movements, but not mouse clicks. Physically clicking the mouse works.
I did some traces and compared the calls from mouse_event() vs physically
clicking the mouse button.
mouse_event() produced:
send_hardware_message( id=0000, win=(nil), msg=00000201, time=00002f51,
wparam=1, lparam=0, info=ffc3d44f, x=332, y=233 )
whereas clicking the mouse produced:
send_hardware_message( id=000d, win=0x1002c, msg=00000201, time=00003507,
wparam=1, lparam=0, info=0, x=332, y=233 )
Anyone know what's going on here?
BTW, Autohotkey and Cspy both have source code available for download.

I frequently got those 'Your connection has been interrupted' messages too. Very
annoying, because in a TCP/IP game, when a sudden disconnect happens, your
character does not get saved properly and you lose some of your progress
(quests, items, etc). The situation improved a lot when I reduced X server color
depth to 16 bit (less CPU intensive).
However, I doubt this is a wine bug. It's just that for local TCP/IP games, as
opposed to Battle.net games, Diablo II does not seem to be able to cope with lag
at all. So even slight hangs (which may occur in wine by itself or due to
outside processes) cause loss of connection.
There is a solution that works great: Play on Battle.net. Hangs are not a
problem there. You can have your Linux box act as a local Battle.net server, see
the PVPGN project. All you have to do is install it, run bnetd in default
configuration, edit the registry (or use one of the many battlenet gateway
selector utilities) to add the server IP to Diablo II list of Battle.net
servers, choose 'Open Battle.net', create a game and you're ready to go.
Now you'll notice slight sync problems sometimes, but instead of kicking you out
like TCP/IP game does, Diablo II now compensates for what it thinks is caused by
Internet lag.
There are also many other advantages over the normal TCP/IP game, since you get
the whole Battle.net menu (list of games to select from, easy game creation
dialog, host can leave the game without kicking all others out, etc.)
Hope this helps

1) Yes and No. Launching from a shortcut UBSpay.exe gives same result than

2) You're right.
I understand your point, but I do not understand why so many softwares can be
launched without cd'ing to their home path. I use plenty of other windows'
software, which don't require a batch.
It doesn't seem to be great issue (especially when one knows the workaround),
but it is still at least a strange behaviour.

I have used winecfg to set my sound driver to alsa, I also tried it with the
driver-emulation. The sound works in the main menu of the game, but when I click
on "start game", I always get this error message and the game does not start.

I'd sure do that, if at least I could run Notes 7... I couldn't see its
interface yet.
But, assuming it hasn't changed much from R5 (however unlikely), one can just
click "new memo" from the start page, paste or type in a long paragraph, select
it and, from the menu bar, click "Text">"Align Paragraph">"Full" (one can also
right click the text area, select "Text Properties", click the second tab [text
alignment] in the popup window that'll appear, an then click the fourth button
[justify] in the top row).
The wording in the interface might not be exactly that in English, as we have
the Portuguese version of Notes R5 here.
I'll try to run Notes 7 here and keep you all informed.

Lei, per my comment#5 I made 2006-08-24, it also runs fine for me on Linux, but
coredumps on FreeBSD. So I am currently forced to switch on my Windows box each
night just to read my Email.
Best regards

Summary: StgOpenStorage API function should not create a file if
file does not exist
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.28.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-files
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mikegardiner(a)bigpond.com
Comparing the behaviour of StgOpenStorage in Wine and WindowsXP,
Windows: StgOpenStorage calls CreateFileW with the creation parameter set to
OPEN_EXISTING, even if the file does not exist.
Wine: StgOpenStorage calls CreateFileW with the creation parameter set to
CREATE_NEW if the file does not exist.
This confuses an application that I am trying to get fully working (Orcad
Capture 9.2), because it expects the StgOpenStorage API to return an error if
the file does not exist. I removed the code in StgOpenStorage that creates the
file if it does not exist, so it now behaves as the Windows fn does, and this
fixed this particular bug in Orcad.

You should not have a config.h in the source tree, do a make distclean in there.
You cannot build both inside and outside of the source tree at the same time.
