Two details I forgot:
- I tested the Webinterface by accssing it from a machine on my LAN using Firefox2.0
- The logfile only contains information about the CPU usage problem, I did not
access the Webinterface while creating the logfile because I was using
WINEDEBUG=all and accessing the Webinterface would have created an insanely
large logfile I guess.

Summary: eMule uses 40% CPU when idle, Webinterface does not work
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.27.
Platform: PC
URL: http://mitglied.lycos.de/sdf1014/emule.zip
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: aollamer(a)gmx.net
Software used to test:
- eMule 0.47c vanilla
- Debian latest testing branch, all packages updated, wine 0.9.25
- Ubuntu 6.10, all packages updated, Wine 0.9.27 directly from winehq.org
Machines used:
- Debian: P2 400Mhz, 256MB RAM, native Debian installation
- Ubuntu: P4 2.8 GHz => running WinXP => running VMWare (384 MB RAM) => running
Ubuntu => running Wine
- The machines were idle when doing the tests, no other software using CPU time.
Configuration used:
- blank eMule configuration, eMule was idle during the tests, no network
connection, no downloads, just the plain main menu.
- blank Wine configuration, Win2000 mode
- the Ubuntu installation was also completely new and unconfigured.
Symptoms:
eMule.exe and wineserver use about 40% CPU time together permanently on the
Pentium2 box, 70% in VMware on my Pentium4 (both use half of the CPU time). This
happens with a completely blank eMule configuration without network connection,
downloads or anything. Furthermore, I cannot access the Webinterface because all
pages stop loading at some point, i.e. the browser cannot receive the whole
data. Waiting for like 5 minutes does not help - the Webinterface does not load
and the CPU usage stays constant. Note that the CPU usage is also that high when
I have not tried to access the Webinterface yet.
I have always had this problem since I tried eMule on Wine for the first time
about one year ago - with all kinds of different Wine/Debian versions etc.
updating did not help.
The only thing which has changed: In previous wine versions the CPU usage was at
100% always!
Since I've now been able to run the test on the native debian installation and
not only in VMware I consider this as a Wine-bug and not a Wine-on-VMware-bug.
Reproducing:
Just run a fresh eMule on a fresh Debian/Ubuntu installation.
I have finally also done the effort of running it with WINEDEBUG=all and
creating a log. I let eMule run for about 5 minutes so that the startup code
should have been finshed and only the debug messages of the infinite loop
creating the CPU usage should be in the end of the log now. This indeed seems to
be the case, the attached logfile (see URL) is very repetetive.
http://mitglied.lycos.de/sdf1014/emule.zip
Feel free to ask me further questions.

I was using git from Saturday and I did a bunch of opening and closing of the
game, restoring sessions and playing with options trying to reproduce the
problems you mentioned. I could save and restore games without any problems and
the grahics lookd fine.
I have freetype fontforge and opengl installed. I did not ues any dll overrides.
The only thing I did not test was sound since I was using a vnc connection from
an old laptop to my main machine (more comfortable that way).

Using Suse Linux enterprise Desktop with lastest version of wine 0.9.27 with
Lotus notes 6.5.1 is crashing every time I try to create a new mail and put some
text in italique. It only does that with italique everything else is fine.
You can reproduce the bug using a trial version of Lotus Notes 6.5.1. This bug
seems to have appeared from 0.9.22. 0.9.21 and before is working well. An other
bug as appear at the same time and can be found here

OK, quick update: I got the latest from GIT, built it and it works like it
should. I will look into configure options (it seems to have built without
freetype2, opengl and fontforge here, and I might have other weird options).
I will also try reinstalling the game, although it dosn't look broken - it is OK
in 0.9.8 (other issues later).
If this works for me, I will abandon this bug (and the other one - 6909).

Sorry, I don't think I explained that terribly well :)
If I run Corel Painter using the builtin wintab32, it crashes on startup (see
the debug log report I attached). But if I run it using the native wintab32, the
crash no longer occurs. I therefore assumed that the builtin wintab32 was the
cause of the crash...

1) Saving works OK, it is just opening/loading that beeps without doing anything
... (I can only tell because the main menu (the thing at the top of the window)
works, so I see which actions are disabled - like start new scenario ...)
2) Just to ve sure: which version of wine? 0.9.27? Latest CVS?

It is a client application that I am working on. And I do not have the
permission to share the code.
However, I created a sample application so that you can check the bug. Please
find attached the executable for the test application. It consists of a
richedit control which displays some lines of text from two files. Some of the
text is hyperlinked. However whenever the scrollbar appears on the control,
and atleast one line is scrolled, the links no longer work under Wine.
My application consists of hyperlinked file names, and the relevant file is
opened when the link is clicked.
Let me know if it helps.
Thanks
Renu
PS: In case you have any problem in running the application, please copy the
attached res folder in the same path as the exe

The effect of this blending patch is, appart from the code move, that GL_BLEND
stays always active when one state that needs it is on. Maybe one of those 3
states shouldn't activate GL_BLEND.
I noticed that a lot of things seem to be missing or semi-transparent in this
game. The road ahead of you, the bumpers to the right(or whatever it should
be). Maybe this patch just exhibits a different bug.
One thing looks suspicious, can you try to edit dlls/wined3d/state.c,
state_blend(), around line 215(my line numbers are slightly different):
if (stateblock->renderState[WINED3DRS_ALPHABLENDENABLE] ||
stateblock->renderState[WINED3DRS_EDGEANTIALIAS] ||
stateblock->renderState[WINED3DRS_ANTIALIASEDLINEENABLE] ||
stateblock->renderState[WINED3DRS_BLENDFACTOR] != 0xFFFFFFFF) {
end remove the WINED3DRS_BLENDFACTOR condition here? It looks pretty wrong,
especially with the || condition to the others.

please leave my bug. you are obviously quite occupied in your life and have
better things to do than hear me out. since you closed my bug out of spite, not
out of genuine closure, I am obligated to reopen it to seek a real answer. I
also forced to ask: Did you read my apology?

Summary: Corel Painter Essentials crashes on startup, but starts
if run without wintab
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.27.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: karlerlandsen(a)yahoo.com
Hi,
In wine 0.9.27 (and many earlier versions too) wine currently crashes when
trying to run Corel Painter Essentials 2, the version that came free with my
Wacom Graphire 4. Painter starts running, the main window appears, and then
crashes just as it starts drawing the pallettes in the interface. However if run
with "WINEDLLOVERIDES=wintab32=n wine CorelPainterEssentials2.exe", Painter
starts successfully without crashing (although the menu and toolbar no longer
respond to mouseclicks, the pallettes continue to respond mouse clicks perfectly).
If run as described above, the following is printed to the console:
fixme:win:WINNLSEnableIME hUnknown1 0x20028 bUnknown2 1: stub!
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateWindow invalid window width -16
If run without "WINEDLLOVERIDES=wintab32=n", a crash occurs and the following is
printed to the console:

err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateWindow invalid window width -16

ms Vitaliy I wish you would would read my comments with the diligence that you
used to pwn my posts. anyways it says [quote]
"However when i attempted to go to audio when running winecfg (as suggested by
the terminal), i got this error message (after it shut down after clicking on
the audio tab):
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:456:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file

sry for offending your sensibilities. I was unaware and did not see your
exclamations before posting a second time. I will now on use attachments. as to
upgrading to the latest wine version, I am not sure (as a relatively noobish
linux user) how to do that in ubuntu w/o screwing up my system. most of my
makefile and other compliling attempts have been disastrous, and thus I am
"compile shy". If this is what I should do, I will. however I hope that the
answer is somewhat easier. Thx for posting at all, and angry help is better than
none!

Correct, this is misconfiguration in Ubuntu. You should remove all references to
none existent devices, such as Wacom tablets, etc from xorg.conf.
I'm not sure what comment #7 refers too here. This bug as about "Photoshop 7.0".

I'm on that one, SIO_ADDRESS_LIST_QUERY the last on my list. The same output is
there for a lot of other games.
I presume the closesocket is the last thing in the trace by accident.
I'll see if I can get a better stub for the address list query done next week,
just to see if that's it.
While you're at that, would you mind getting a ethereal/wireshark network trace
of creating a game, joining the lobby from another box, and starting/ending a
game session for me? I'm always looking for more data on that. :)

This problem is *not* solved in 0.9.25 however to add to the mix I am running on
an AMD64 system. Sufficiently beefy to run it smoothly in 0.9.12.
Running as a user which does not have direct access to the graphics card seems
to alleviate (but not resolve) the problem.
*ahem* I meant to post this about 7 hours ago but, well, very smooth in 0.9.12...

Confirming, that eFax Messenger 4.2 failed to Install after this
failing OpenPrinter.
Printing in Wine works only with:
1) the buildin Postscript-Driver "wineps.drv / wineps16.drv"
2) CUPS/LPR from the Host-OS as Backend
I'm working on Isssue #2:
> fixme:winspool:OpenPrinterW PRINTER_DEFAULTS ignored => (null),(nil),0x00000001
> It makes msgrplus.exe fails.
No. It just show, that the Application has OpenPrinter with
SERVER_ACCESS_ADMINISTER, but we Ignore Access-Restrictions.
>From your log:
> trace:reg:NtOpenKey (0x64,L",XcvMonitor Local Port"
OpenPrinter has no support for XcvMonitor yet and uses the String
as Printername. I'm already working on this Part.
Issue #1 need much more work in many Areas in wine.

I don't know. On my system the heroes patch never gives me the "installation
support file"-error when using a wine version between 0.9.21 and 0.9.27. This is
why I thought that this bug was fixed in those versions but the other bug kept
the patch from detecting that the game is installed. But you might be right, it
might be the other way round. I will try to do some other tests if I have some
free time.

I could run notepad and other programs with wine before. I did now a new install
(compile without fomit-frame-pointer) and now it starts but it crashes while
loading a map, starting a scenario or creating a new game.

It's not clear whether the original bug report refers to fonts created using
CreateFont or to stock fonts returned from GetStockObject. It is certainly
the case that the SYSTEM_FIXED_FONT, ANSI_FIXED_FONT and OEM_FIXED_FONT stock
fonts are incorrectly proportional-spaced in Wine 0.9.12, as my testcase
demonstrates. This problem causes my application 'BBC BASIC for Windows' to
fail: http://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/bbcwin/download.html

BTW one more note: native does not support setting only one axis' mode. Only
whole device. It could be that your app tries that, fails then sets whole device
to absolute. And because Wine doesn't return failure app thinks axis mode changed.
But again, if you have the app with this problem, please specify what app is it
and where to download it (if demo is available).

ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
I saw a problem report at
http://mafia-server.net/blog2/alternative-zu-locad-fur-linux
saying that "locad doesn't work well with current wine"
So I downloaded them demo and tried it myself with wine-0.9.27.
Sure enough, it seems to have trouble. The
first thing it does is pop up an 'Info' dialog
twice, which is ok, but when you click it away,
it hangs around with no body; seems the main window
just doesn't draw itself, leaving the blank dialog there.
Likewise, you can use the menus, and try
to place a logic element like this:
Datei / Neu
Bauteile / Auswaehlen / Und
(mouse to somewhere and click left)
but it tells you it can't place the gate there.
Presumably the main window shows you where you
can put gates, but it isn't drawn, so you can't
see where you're going wrong.
I haven't tried it under Windows yet, so I can't
be sure of how it's supposed to work, but it does seem
screwed up.

Using the demo with Wine 0.9.27 gives a very good result: the graphics are
drawn perfectly, even in high detail!
The screenshot and instructions (basically create a registry value to use fbo
rendering) are available at the demo's AppDB page here:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3834
I got the registry hint from test results for the full game, so it is likely
to work just as good.

If, during a game of Stronghold, the host selects to quit the game, the other
player will first be presented with a winning screen, and then returned to the
game lobby. If he tries to leave the game lobby, however, the game goes into
a simingly infinite wait. The following message appears periodically on the
console.
fixme:winsock:WSAIoctl -> SIO_ADDRESS_LIST_QUERY request: stub
All the other cases of infinte wait upon DirectPlay exit seem to have been

After saving a game in Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, the menu appears for

When exiting the game, a DirectDraw error appears if you have saved a game

Large explosions in C&C: Red Alert are supposed to shake the game view, but in

in tank battles, for example.
This can be reproduced in the demo (remember to choose Windows 98 in Winecfg):
- Start a new mission as the Soviet side
- Take the men you start with and head north-east over a bridge, and destroy
the explosive barrels at its end

Looks to me that this patch caused GTA to use D3DFMT_P8 and this triggers a

I think this is a valid bug account. I have used both the installer and a copy
of CS2 copied from windows and I get the long (4 minutes) startup times and lots
of PIDL errors. Fix this and CS2 will probably become as stable as photoshop 7
under wine.
You can stop these errors using DLL overrides and also reduce startup to a mere
20 seconds but I found that the save and load dialogs were very buggy (winxp DLLs).

The startup of PS8 is probably the same as for "CS2" and is related to lots of
"PIDL" errors being dumped in the shell on startup. It takes around 3 minutes
for these to stop and then photoshop CS2 runs fine.
err:shell:HCR_GetFolderAttributes HCR_GetFolderAttributes should be called for
simple PIDL's only! err:shell:HCR_GetFolderAttributes HCR_GetFolderAttributes

HCR_GetFolderAttributes should be called for simple PIDL's only!
err:shell:HCR_GetFolderAttributes HCR_GetFolderAttributes should be called for
simple PIDL's only!
You can speed up the startup and get rid of these errors by using real DLLs and
the following overrides (as documented in the AppDB Howto):
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="shell32,shlwapi,rpcrt4,comdlg32,setupapi=n" wine Photoshop.exe
However this seems to break the load and save dialogs for me and overall makes
photoshop CS2 less stable (I used winxp DLLs). A fix for the "PIDL" errors would
make CS/CS2 almost as good as Photoshop 7 under wine. Bug #5347 is probably a
duplicate of this.

Summary: win16: garbled/corrupted window content (bad colors?)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.27.
Platform: PC

Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-dos
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

(note: I *really* don't know where this bug belongs properly, the symptoms don't
connect with any single component .. and it is only in win16)
Bug found while using: blades of exile (available from
http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/)
Since 0.9.20 [1] (and at least until 0.9.27), the win16 subsystem has a very
serious problem with, I assume, colors.
Pictures are worth a thousand words (big, screenshots):
correct: http://xKiv.matfyz.cz/wine-bugre/0.9.7-correct.png
buggy: http://xKiv.matfyz.cz/wine-bugre/0.9.20-verybad.png
(it was the same in all later versions that could actually run the program)
I seem to remeber this happening in some ancient versions of wine too.
There is an related issue that I will mention here, since it might have similar
cause (and is not worth fixing before fixing this bug):
In all versions of 0.9.x, where applicable (I managed to build wine, the program
was actually started and the 0.9.20-verybad issue was not yet present)
[this means: in 0.9.2-0.9.8, 0.9.10-0.9.14 and 0.9.16]:
some parts of the window content are black when first displayed, but are
corrected after re-exposure such as window movement (eighter the X window, or the
win16 window inside wine desktop), switching destops forth and back, clicking on
the area so that the application repaints it, ...).
Exhibits (full size gimp screenshots):
after startup: http://xKiv.matfyz.cz/wine-bugre/0.9.7-before.png
after clicking: http://xKiv.matfyz.cz/wine-bugre/0.9.7-after.png
As a sidenote, in 0.9.11, I noticed that the colors changed after futher
grabbing:
http://xKiv/matfyz.cz/wine-bugre/0.9.11-incorrect-after-gimp-grab.png
[1]: or maybe even before that, I couldn't fire my test case (running blades of
exile) in 0.9.15-0.9.19 because of unrelated bugs - unhandled page faults,
etc...)

Bug found while using: blades of exile (from http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/)

I tested the following versions of wine (if I demangle my notes correctly):
0.9.1 - 0.9.2: I failed to build these
0.9.2 - 0.9.8: OK
0.9.9: not tested/can't even run the program
0.9.10 - 0.9.14: OK
0.9.15 - 0.9.19: not tested/...
0.9.20 - 0.9.24: bug present
0.9.25: not tested/...
0.9.26 - 0.9.27: bug present
Build environment:
gcc 4.1.1
linux 2.6.16-mm1
glibc 2.3.6
Once upon a time, in one ancient version of wine (sorry, don't remember which
anymore, it really was too many years ago), I tracked a bug that had similar
effects (namely, the win16 open dialog let me choose anything, but wouldn't let
me open it - win32 is OK) and found that after I chose a file, the choice got
overwritten by the default value.
That means: the application (say, blades of exile) used an Open file dialog with
a default of BLADES.SAV.
I chose A.SAV (and clicked OK or Open or Load ... the label does not matter).
Then BLADES.SAV was assigned to the choice string. And the application got that
instead of my chosen file.

Summary: Delphi applications printing bug

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gdi-(printing)
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: paolo.salvan(a)xvision.it
I'm using Wine 0.9.27 and Ubuntu 6.06.
I've problems when printing from Delphi Apps that use QReport (the
default reporting engine for most Delphi versions), and after some
hacking I've prepared a minimal executable and isolated a trouble:
it seems that Delphi printing over a Canvas works only if I show the
system PrintDialog or the PrinterSetupDialog befor printing, and I
press OK in this dialog: printing directly to the default printer
doesn't work under Wine, but works regularly under Windows ("doesn't
work" meens that nothing is encoded in the printing spool... and the
only error that is shown is "fixme:psdrv:PSDRV_EndPage Already ended a
page?")
Ie, this code works both under Windows and Wine:
procedure TForm1.Button2Click(Sender: TObject);
var SetupDialog: TPrinterSetupDialog;
begin
SetupDialog:= TPrinterSetupDialog.Create(Application);
SetupDialog.Execute;
with Printer do
begin
BeginDoc;
Canvas.TextOut(100, 100, 'Test');
EndDoc;
end;
end;
...while this code works only under Windows:
procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject);
begin
with Printer do
begin
BeginDoc;
Canvas.TextOut(100, 100, 'Test');
EndDoc;
end;
end;
Enabling deeper log on "psdrv", and comparing the log files of the two
version ('-' is the non-working one, "+" is the working one...), I've
found something interesting:
