It seems, that moving files in Salamander works fine (except many fixmes in
console output) for me after applying that patch.
Thank you very much for good and quick work.

Summary: Riven Crash in second movement node
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.25.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P3
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: i80and(a)gmail.com
While playing Riven (Myst 2) on wine 0.9.25, wine abruptly crashes while turning
in the node right outside the link-in spot of the first age. The screen
resolution does not revert from 640x480 to the original resolution.
To reproduce this bug, after installing and running riven, and after the intro
movies have finished, move out of the link-in enclosure. Step forward and
attempt to turn. Riven will ignore attempts to turn (but ambient sound
continues), and seconds later will crash. What should have happened was that
riven would have allowed you to turn where indicated.

OK, I have just done a review of this with 0.9.26 .
Installer works fine with the regkey noted above . I needed to touch
riched20.dll for it to run natspeak.
Natspeak spawns IE which crashes , this seems unimportant. It's probably a
"phone home" or displaying a home page. This is not new and does not seem to
matter.
Wine can now go through the whole of voice training with just a couple of minor
hicks already in my install notes.
The good news ends when you select "start dictating" , ugly crash, big mess in
msvcrt. This was one of the dlls that my last working installation with -.9.20
needed.
This looks very close to being 100% native now.
One issue remains to close this bug : whether the version regkey Version vector
is sufficient. It seems there may also be a need for Version for backwards
compat with older software written around IE installations.

suggest refering to install notes for version 7 for earlier wine releases that
did work with the installer.
regression happened around 0.9.20, this could presumably traced back to where
the breakage came in.
v7 uses a known buggy installshield/MSI installer that is known to show exactly
the same errors on some HP windows machines.
It appears that wine is correctly emulating some set of conditions that
triggers this MSI bug. It would be nice if it could emulate a windows env. that
does not trigger the bug.

OK, first of all have a good read of the notes I posted for installing dns7 ,
it will give you on overview of the situation.
Wine is getting very close on this one now but there was some regression wrt
the installer in wine>0.9.20 , you will find comment about that as well. I
recall I needed to use an earlier snapshot to install then I could run it with
0.9.20 with just a couple of natives.
The installer looks for regkeys to see if IE5 or later is present because it
needs some of the MS speach API.
I did look into this extensively with c.20050524 wine
You can fairly simply trace and add the regkey needed to fool the installer
into continuing, but at that stage it failed further down the line when it hit
the actual lack of the files it required.
IIRC adding the reg key was sufficient to get it through the installer.
I am very insterested in ironing out some of the remaining issues on DNS. V7
seems to be the best prospect at this time since there are additional issues
with the online registration process required for >=v8.
The heart of the speach rec. engine has not changed since v7, most of the diffs
seem to be stuff like IE integration and commercial changes.
The key to getting top quality speach rec. on wine seems to lie in v7.
regards.

Summary: failure enumerating interfaces on NetBSD

OS/Version: NetBSD
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jmmikkel(a)mit.edu
I'm running wine on NetBSD 4-BETA. I am getting the following error:
err:winsock:WSAIoctl Unable to get interface table!
I traced this down to dlls/iphlpapi/ifenum.c. The enumIPAddresses() function
uses the SIOCGIFCONF ioctl to get a list of interfaces on the system. It has the
comment "there is no way to know the interface count beforehand, so we need to
loop ... until returned < max". Unfortunately the algorithm is failing because
the ioctl is returning the _required_ length in ifc_len, even when that is
larger than the provided buffer.
So on NetBSD there actually is a way to know how much to allocate, but I figure
there might have to be a special configure test written just for this. A simpler
solution that fixed my problem and I think will work in general:

Sorry, but there is no prove that it _is_ Wine's problem. Firs you have to look
at your kernel, drivers & co. Especially as gentoo user the burden on your
shoulders to prove that something is wrong with Wine and not your system.
As mentioned before, if you not running as root, there is no way for Wine to
crash your system. To prove it is Wine, you will have to produce some crash
backtraces, showing where Wine crashes.

Likely hardware problem. Are you running as root? Wine cannot simply bring down
an entire system. The only things that could are kernel, drivers, hardware, etc.
"I wouldn't blame Wine, but as it stands right now, there is no concrete proof for
or against Wine."
But you opened a wine bug report. This is really hard for us to do anything with
if you have no information.

I'm still using the 8776 drivers. I haven't done any hardware upgrades recently,
nor have I tested penumbra before any hardware upgrades which I might have done
before.
Also, I'm still using the 2.6.17 kernel (with Gentoo patches).
My system has never experienced this kind of crash even though I play a large
variety of 3D games.
If there was something else that I could run to reproduce a similar behavior, I
wouldn't blame Wine, but as it stands right now, there is no concrete proof for
or against Wine.

At various parts of the game, my whole Linux system crashes. X disappears. My
monitors go blank. I actually hear my case fans spin up as if they do when the
system boots. I cannot ping the machine. In fact, I believe the system reboots
itself, but fails to get beyond POST. If I press the reset power button on the
case, the system reboots, but doesn't get beyond POST again. Only after the
second time of pressing the reset button my system boots up properly.
I tried piping the output of wine to a log file but either no messages are
printed, or the buffer isn't written to the disk before the machine
crashes/restarts. I also checked my Xorg and syslog but neither show any problems.
I have experienced this problem 4 times - always at different spots in the game.
As far as I remember, this is the first time my Linux system crashed this badly.
Wine version 0.9.26 and 0.9.25 was tested. Wine was obtained from git and
compiled. OS: Gentoo amd64.

I've made a little research of the problem and I believe that I found the
reason. As a matter of fact the problem isn't in the localization, but instead
it is in the character set of the font used to display the messages.
I beleive that, the information of LC_CTYPE is used to decide the font's
charater set and LC_MESSGAES the language. If these two variables have different
character set values the messages are not displayed correctly.
Example:
1. LC_CTYPE=bg_BG (cp1251) LC_MESSAGES=en_US (cp1252) - wine will display
engish massages using cp1251
2. LC_CTYPE=bg_BG (cp1251) LC_MESSAGES=ru_RU (cp1251) as the bulgarian and the
russian uses the same character set the messages will be displayed correctly.

Wine works completely without fontforge, you just won't have any supplied Wine
fonts (your second problem). We do not make this a hard requirement for the
builder because the builder can provide his own.
For your Xrender problem, you need to dig a bit deeper, as it works fine here.
Maybe report your video driver and window manager+version. Also check your
/etc/ld.so.conf, and maybe try recreating your ld.so.cache. Also run this:
ldd /usr/X11R6/lib/libXrender.so

Yes, that is true - undoing of the patch is wrong, but I did it for testing that
my regression analysis is valid. And it is.
Nobody should use that patch for anything more than testing.
And yes, the problem is the cursor being on beginning of the text:
When you start quick-search function by hitting any letter, Notes brings up
quick-search window with the letter (you hit earlier) already there. But, the
cursor is on the left side of that letter, not on the end as it should be.
I think Notes does something fancy to get the cursor to the end of the text?

So, I've finally found some time to look at this again.
The attached patch performs a binary comparison of the two strings if LCID == 0
(rather than a Unicode compare), which is what I believe Windows does. This
now gives the same results as Windows on the test data I fed it.
Is the patch alright?

> What is the showstopper in not merging the patch?
Well, the patch that is supposed to work, does not. I'm not happy merging the
other one, because WS_shutdown() does much more than call shutdown(), so it
might help Warcraft III but break other apps.
This weekend I might look into what exactly happens for shutdown() and what
overlapped sockets really are and how wine handles them. Then I'll either write
a proper patch or submit this one.

So just simply removing it won't do.
So from what I understood, the only problem is that when the "search window"
shows up, the cursor is at the beginning of the text, not the end?

Summary: Latest Steam update (22. Nov 2006) breaks Steam
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.25.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sjsepp(a)utu.fi
Latest Steam update (22. Nov 2006) breaks Steam when running Wine 0.9.25 in
Debian Sarge (2.6.18.1 kernel, swsusp2 patched). Halflife with latest pre-steam
patches (1110) installed. Logging on to the Steam server just hangs.
If I enter a false Steam password I can see with Ethereal that Steam makes a TCP
connection to Valve servers, but it does not hang. Instead it informs me of a
wrong password. If I give the right password, it will create TCP connections
also, but the will just freeze.
Two days ago when I first installed Steam under Wine it worked like a charm and
the only difference now is that Steam has updated itself. The Halflife part is
not probably relevant, but I'll include it just in case.
Steps to reproduce
1) Install all recommended libraries (lib*-dev) for Debian Sarge
2) Install latest version of Wine (0.9.25) from sources
3) Install Halflife + latest patch (1110)
4) Launch Halflife and enter the registration key
5) Launch SteamInstaller and let it update itself
6) Work around the tahoma.ttf problem by changing every entry of "Tahoma" to
"Arial" in file $STEAM_INSTALL_DIR/resource/steamscheme.res
6) Launch Steam, enter a valid username and password
7) Try to connect
Steam will hang forever. If I press Ctrl-C (xterm + windowmaker) the Steam
window pops up and says: "Connecting Steam account: myaccountname". Couple of
Ctrl-C's or Ctrl-Z + "kill -9 %1" will get rid of it.

Tested with wine-0.9.24, applies cleanly. Of course, this is only for testing.

Summary: Mouse movement is "oddly constrained" in PokerStars
table window
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.25.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: winehq.org(a)machturtle.com
Definately new for 0.9.25. For any poker table window in PokerStars, the mouse
seems to stay in an area near the center of the table. It does not appear to be
constrained to a simple rectangle. Close the table window (ALT-F4) an mouse
movement returns to normal.

It is not a regression after all.
I didn't have this problem in Ubuntu 6.06 but I do have it in 6.10.
So I guess it is a problem with a library update or something.
Can anyone with any of these two versions check it?
I don't have the stack overflow problem, what version (Linux/wine) do you use Lei?

Re-opening this as the problem still occurs when GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object

back in again when viewing an area with discolouration it is no longer
discoloured when you log back in.

Ok it doesn't really matter how you launch it. The intro video hangs after
playing now. I'll try to determine if this is a regression (I do think so). You
can bypass the intro.
The first crash is a dupe of bug 6086. The second is new, but unusual because I
don't hit it. Upgrade to latest CVS/git and try again.
PS, always attach logs or crash dumps. I almost didn't catch there are two
seperate crash logs here.

problem, but I don't know much about the code and if that introduces other problems.

However, I did not see the source to version 1.15.

I have just checked the git version. I don't think the defect is fixed.
The only difference with version 0.9.25 is that there is no messages displayed
that wine is unable to determine the language.
The result is the same, if LC_CTYPE is set to bg_BG - the incorect localization
is used (see the attached picture for details).
I have to mention that only LC_CTYPE is set,
the other LC_ environment variables and LANG are not set.

menu, but I only see the main menu. I get the feeling I can change stuff in the
configuration menu, but if I can't see what I'm doing, then I could make it worse.

Xrender in Slack 11 works for me. The second problem you have is you're missing
fontforge or freetype to correctly build the fonts.

for the missing fonts: check if you have fontforge installed.
for the mouse problem: a work around will probably be running the app with

winetest-200611221000-paul-mingw.exe crashes on Wine 0.9.25 just alike.
I did notice there is some new patch added to the GIT possibly fixing this, but
I didn't manage to find out how to use the newest GIT version instead. So, I'll
be waiting for the 0.9.26 version to test, whether this has been fixed already
by those. Until then, this is still a critical bug for running tests on Wine for
me.
(Note: There have been NO test runs submitted on versions later than Wine 0.9.23
at all, most likely because of this bug.)

Invalid. Leave the version at 2000. You're not running native IE6 if it's
asking for Gecko...that's the builtin IE. Installing IE6 works just fine.
Running it is a different matter, and we already have a bug report open for that.

I CNC regeneade runs well under Wine 0.9.7. In 0.9.8 major d3d changes were
made and the game no longer works. When I start the game with 0.9.25 It freezes
at the menu. In 0.9.7 it runs....A little slowly but everything works....WHen I
look at the log it says STUB: Using idirect3d but it works....Any ideas can I
force idirect 3d for a game?
<betolley> I can't regression test because I used fedora 6 and there is a
problem with fedora and prelinking with fc6. I can't make old versions work
even after disabling prelinking.

my objective for this exercise was to run IE6 to log into a corporate MS only
web site. at first, i installed IE6 with ies4linux, and it ran very well except
that it wasn't using 128 bit encrypting that is required by that site.
i tried to install IE6 myself to see if i could do anything to see it report
that it was using 128 encryption, but failed, and i learned about the winetools
controversy, and the wine developers' need to get reports.
so, here's one of those reports: straight out of the box, wine 0.9.25 cannot
successfully install IE6 despite reports on winehq's forum that such a thing has
been possible since 0.9.16!

Summary: installation of IE6 SP1 on 0.9.25 fails
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.25.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P1
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: voidvoidpointer(a)yahoo.com
Each time that I tried to install ie6setup.exe with a virgin .wine directory,
the installation failed using wine-0.9.25 on Ubuntu 6.06 on a Pentium 3 box.
When I set the Windows version to 98, an attempt to install a minimal
installation of IE6 SP1 with "wine ie6setup.exe" failed to install all
components, and the IE6 browser was not available for use.
When I did _not_ set the Windows version to 98 and left the version at the
default setting of 2000, installation of IE6 SP1 does not fail, but that does
not result in a successful installation. After a wineboot, an attempt to run
IE6 results in a request to load Gecko components, and when that finishes, there
is a pure white IE6 window with nothing else on it. Neither killing that white
window nor rebooting improves results for subsequent runs of IE6. The result is
always a pure white window.
The difference between trying to install IE6 on Windows versions 98 and 2000 is
that for 98 winboot does not report any errors, but for 2000, winboot reports
three WFP errors.
If anybody is interested, I can capture either or both sequences of error
messages with script to yield a typescript file as the errors are reproducible.
