So, they _may_ be different bugs. But they do have a common cause, the com port connection failure, which hasn't changed during the three years this bug has existed. That more than justifies calling them duplicates IMHO, unless there can be pointed out a difference. Though it might have been better only to note them being just related to point out more (or redundant) info existing elsewhere for someone working on this. (This duplicate pair being the least obvious of all those I pointed out, I wouldn't be too shocked of an error by me in this very case, but I doubt it.) I do try to help and not cause confusion or trouble. Analysing and pointing out easy cases like duplicates first is just my way to get acquianted with the problems here and give some assistance while doing so. Such analysis did result in half a dozen ancient redundant bugs on this same subject and more else already being removed lately in any case, didn't it? Not too bad for a newcomer, eh? (All the relevant info is still in those left.) I promise I won't dig into any complex cases I don't have a clue of. Althogh I do know this and that, localisation stuff will be quite enough for me. But I'm sure you could use occational help analysing and organising bugs, too. The build environment runs under Linux and I using wine to run this DOS compiler from the makefile. When I run wine (0.9.22 or 0.9.25) from inside the makefile, wine causes segmentation fault immediately. The same command runs fine outside the makefile. Summary of what I found: - wine-0.9.8-r1 is working fine in makefiles. - wine-0.9.22 and wine-0.9.25 do not work in makefiles but work outside. I did not try the versions in between 0.9.8-r1 and 0.9.22. - If you use wine-0.9.22 and replace wine command with wine-pthread in the makefile, it will start the compiler but fail when the compiler forks other executables. For the time being I will use wine-0.9.8-r1 but I would like to use the latest version. It's worth noting that wine works fine with other direct3d games, such as DeusEX, which runs flawlessly on this setup. I got past the initial error output, by downloading (or copying from a Windows installation) the MSVCIRT.dll and placing it in the ~/.wine/drive_c/Windows/system32 directory. Native cabinet completely brakes HAL auto-mounting. With builtin I found something that seemed to eventually work: - Start install from CD1 - When prompted remove CD1 and insert CD2 - Wait for it to mount, tell installer to proceed. I had a working setup (v0.9.24) which broke after I upgraded to v0.9.25. The *only* difference is that I moved the PC into another room. Which would suggest hardware failures. But no other issue have popped up (been running various games, opengl-apps, videos, emulators). I'm runnin DeusEx inside a "emulated desktop", so wine shouldn't be able to blank the *entire* screen (KDE/Fluxbox). DeusEx seems to be running just fine and I can navigate through the menus etc. (in blind, since I can't see anything). I happens for both the OpenGL and Direct3D driver. In safemode/softwarerender It doesn't blank the screen until I toggle fullscreen. I've tried switching back and forth between virtual terminals/consoles as similar bugs seems to suggest but with no luck. Only way to get visuals back is to exit the KDE-session (ctrl-alt-del). DeusEx have been running perfectly since v0.9.19 through v0.9.24. Now, what's really puzzling me is that I have tried to revert to older versions (0.9.24 , 0.9.23 , 0.9.22) and now they too blanks the screen. I've deleted ~/.wine several time. took me a while to get the winegit setup but finaly managed it , however : started with good at wine-0.9.24 , which was the version that worked, perforemed the regression analysis as instructed , and found no working version, all test turned up the same problem tried again starting with wine-0.9.23 as good , same result tried again starting with wine-0.9.23 as good and wine-0.9.24 as bad ( not the case but I wanted to see what would happen with a range where I knew it would work) same result a further description of the problem would be this, the area below the text menu , which is dedicated to the toolbars is not high enough, bottom of the tool bars gets cut off, this also caries to the search feild at the other end of the bar ( to the right hand side) . In custom indicators to change the parameters in a custom input box press 'F2'. Unfortunatly I haven't found a way to change the fields in the 'colors' tab. So far it looks ok and I can't see any difference in quality. I can't test on the server where I had the problem as it is down for extended maintenance.
