No, it's not an installer bug. The installer keyword is for bugs involved in
the installation process of an application. Also, this works absolutely fine
for me, no crash, so I'm going to need to see a backtrace and a log; otherwise,
this bug will be closed.

On basis of what I've been reading on some other similar bugs, I'm pretty
convinced this is an installer bug in advpack:install dll. Solving it might even
solve numerous other bugs as well.
Added keywords "conformance" and "installer".

A better way to fix this bug is to add:
[Software\\Wine\\OpenGL] 1162641904
"DisabledExtensions"="GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object"
to ~/.wine/system.reg
As to the white/black minimap problem, this is purely cosmetic but deeply
annoying. Perhaps
err:wgl:X11DRV_wglGetPixelFormatAttribivARB Unable to convert iPixelFormat 0 to
a GLX one, expect problems!
err:wgl:X11DRV_wglGetPixelFormatAttribivARB Unable to convert iPixelFormat 0 to

Unless it was fixed just last night, it still doesn't work correctly. The last
wine I tested with was a pull from yesterday. It still produces the "orphaned"
window and no input is allowed to the main program. I basically did a pull,
cleaned everything, removed the old wine, removed my old setup directory and
went ahead and installed GSAK fresh. It asked to download a gecko control (I
think it was gecko) and then proceeded. It created the orphaned window just the
same. Unfortunately, I don't know why the orphaned browser window is being
created. I don't know enough about how the interface asks for a window.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong?
The input lock-up might also be related to a problem I had with GSAK before,
even under Wine 0.9.16, where after a while, it would lock-up unless I could get
it to redraw. I don't know what was causing it to lose the input capability,
but this is somewhat similar in that respect. Is there anything else I can turn
on as far as debug that would narrow down the problem? Maybe I've even got the
wrong module here...

I think this is what happens to me when running the conformance tests. When
starting the test program, the pop-up appears normally, but the other dialog box
containing the buttons and the area for tagging the test goes behind it. So, to
run the test, one needs to move the first pop-up covering the start button box
somewhere first. Also, when the test has finished, the submit button goes
somewhere behind and one has to look for it to get the results sent. I was just
about gonna report it as a minor nuisance bug only related to the conformance
tests, but according to this bug it seems to be a more general case.
To me this bug appears when running conformance tests irrespective of OS. I have
been running those tests both on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS/Wine (several latest versions)
and Win XP, and in both cases this same bug does exist, so it likely isn't about
the OS. Therefore I would change this bug to cover ALL OSes instead of just
Linux now. Although it might be the case, that there actually are two similar
bugs, too. One would then be in the tests, the other in Wine itself.
But I would put my money on there only being one bug somewhere in a suitable
place, which affects both all those tests and Wine itself. Possibly in some
early part of the source, which has been used for writing both.
To me this does confirm the bug I am experiencing.

This is a problem since mscoree.dll.so has been added to the dlls. This dll is
not yet really implemented in wine. As a work around you might try move
mscoree.dll.so temporarily away from /usr/local/lib/wine/. The Direct X
installer will then (probably) succed.

PS: upack not check for LoadLibrary failures, so program will crash with access

I tested using DRI R200. I don't suspect the video drivers themselves, because
the latest nvidia driver worked when I tried a few days ago. It could be a
compatability issue between AIGLX and nvidia. Have you tried the option :
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" ?
But you can also try disabling AIGLX and compiz completely.
Make sure you are fully up to date. I am running final release version of ubuntu
6.10.
I also built my own version of wine 0.9.25.
There is really not much else to check.

the bug exists with the zipped test but not with the .exe file.
I will try running the conformance test from .exe with 0.9.25 in a minute. If it
works, that will confirm there is something wrong with the zipped file.

I'm guessing that by using the native msi you mean to run "msiexec /i

I missed the last comment posted to gun, I was referring to the following 2
errors being the same. I know nothing about them being generic in MSI or why the
message box comes up, I only know they both have a dialog box that pops up in
the middle of installation with the same message after the same set of errors
and they look similar.

If we ever (even though it's an redistributable) implement this dll, perhaps

I upgraded to Wine 0.9.25 today, and ran the latest conformance test
winetest-200611101000-paul-mingw.exe just to see it crash while testing
advpack:install dll. The only way to continue is to force abort.
As there were already a few dlls tested succesfully before that, and there
haven't been changes to the test for advpack:install since I've run the test
successfully (I've done it frequently lately), I assume there must be something
wrong with the new version of advpack:install itself now.
I did run the same test on a Win XP machine successfully. I also ran it on the
previous build 0.9.24 successfully. Test results for those runs have been
submitted as th-w18 and th-wine18 respectively.

I decided to submit this bug because there was some confusion between the
different dungeon keeper problems in Wine. This one only relates to the demo
(AFAIK), but hopefully it might give insight into how to make the full version work.
I installed the game with this long command:
$ rm -rf ~/.wine-testing/ && WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-testing wineprefixcreate &&
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-testing wine /vault/files/dungeonkeeper2demo.exe
Next, I'll attach the output that I get from wine by default and with relay enabled.

I may be tracking things down a little bit. Because GSAK produces an embedded
browser window for the cache pages, that appears to be what causes the problems
I'm having. The embedded browser appears to not show up in the window and
causes problems with GSAK input (eventually it freezes GSAK).

> Gun is still broken
Thanks for the totally useless information. We know it's still broken. If
you'll take the time to read the bug report for Gun, you'll see that I have a
patch that fixes the Gun installer.
> I have a copy of Gun, this error message is the exact same as the message from
Gun.
I'm guessing you're referring to:
err:msi:extract_cabinet_file FDICopy failed
err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles Unable to ready media
That message is a generic message that says, "MSI couldn't find the cab we need
to extract" There are several different reasons why this could happen, so you
can't be certain that this is a duplicate. Read my comment in the Gun bug
report about why the Gun installer has this problem.

Tested with a few RTS games, and this is causing issues with them.
A lot of them seem to use GetCursorPos (windows) for gui interaction, and Dinput
relative mode for dragging/moving stuff in the 3d world (such as camera orbiting).
So resetting the mouse cursor's position to the center makes all of the
dragging/moving stuff work (relative mode), but breaks the ability to touch the
gui. And making it so the cursor doesnt snap to the center makes it so that the
gui works, but the dragging/rotating no longer does!

I am, in fact, using x86.
I've been trying to confirm what version this starts in, but for some reason,
building wine 0.9.19 and 0.9.20 on Edgy results in binaries which core dump.

Upon further inspection, the real problem is that the installer takes control
the installer UI by running the command MsiSetInternalUI(NONE). It then calls
MsiSetExternalUI(uihandler). We should be calling the external handler if it
exists when we change media. I'll send a patch shortly.

Specialy for Vitaliy Margolen: no version of WINE worked for me with koi8-r

I've finally had the time to actually log some time with GSAK. Wanted to update
some info here on the problem:
GSAK runs, but upon running, windows appear outside of GSAK's main window. Once
GSAK is completely started and the cache database is filled in, the cache window
(which is an html window below the cache listing embedded into the main window),
appears on the Linux root window. After this point, GSAK cannot receive anymore
input from the user unless it is in a sub-process (for example, if GSAK has
"crashed" and its databases are out of whack, it asks if you would like to
correct the problem. This popup window can be clicked in and made to disappear
as it should be, but once GSAK is up after this, nothing else can be done with
GSAK).
I have some output from mshtml, urlmon, exec, shdocvw... If necessary, will run
another pass with other options turned on. There are some mshtml errors that do
appear. Also, there are some OLE errors that occur. I don't know which, if
any, of these would cause a window not to find its parent and be embedded within
it (there may even be an embedding error... I am unfamiliar with the embedding
output). I do need to update my copy of wine slightly as I'm only running from
newest since Oct 18th or there-abouts.
I'm running FC5, but believe that this probably occurs with other apps.
Hopefully I've got the right component as it might be mshtml, but I cannot be
sure which component causes the issue.

This is the log with +mshtml,+shell,+shdocvw,+urlmon, +exec
I ran this through and it appears that GSAK creates 2 windows on the root that
may be considered "out-of-band" windows that should have been children of a
main window somehow.

===== Overview Description =====
When using BabasChess v3.6 from [1], it seems to crash quite randomly in
different situations.
Attached is output for a particular crash which happened while just observing a
game in FICS. (I was unable to try BabasChess with "WINEDEBUG=+relay" because it
was too slow so I used just "wine path/to/BabasChess.exe")
Other crashes have happened in different situations, e.g. when starting to move
your piece while playing.

problem with WXTIDE (which can be downloaded free from the internet).
This bug report was filed a year or two ago but seems to have disappeared from
the bugzilla list. If one presses one of the mouse buttons at a location on the
graph, a box is supposed to appear displaying information about the tide at that
time. However, the box just flashes on the screen - it should remain as long as
the mouse button is pressed.
Otherwise, the program seems to run quite well :-)
There is already a bug report about problems installing wxtide; however it can
be run by just unpacking in in the desired directory.

Couple things to make sure of:
1) You have to make sure your cdrom drive is recognized in winecfg before you
run the installer, or it won't work.
2) This is the process you *have* to use in order for it to work:
$ cd /media/cdrom
$ wine setup.exe &
(asks for cd 2)
$ cd ..
$ wine eject
(if wine eject doesn't eject the cd, do the next step)
$ eject
(insert the new cd)
(if you don't have hal setup:)
$ winecfg -> setup cdrom drive again
bash holds a fd on the cdrom if your cwd is /media/cdrom, which will keep you
from being able to eject...that's a bash bug though. Honestly, this bug is
fixed...I've installed HL2 about 10 times now, so if you have a problem with the
install process, ask about it on wine-users.

IDL of the ADODB typelib with the Attach method
This is the IDL of the typelib responsible for the crash.
One thing is apparent in close examination: There are really two methods.
There is an:
[id(0x00000003)]
void Append(
[in] BSTR Name,
[in] DataTypeEnum Type,
[in, opt, hasdefault] ADO_LONGPTR
DefinedSize, [in, opt, hasdefault]
FieldAttributeEnum Attrib,
[in, opt] VARIANT FieldValue);
And then, there is an:
void _stdcall _Append(
[in] BSTR Name,
[in] DataTypeEnum Type,
[in, opt, hasdefault] ADO_LONGPTR DefinedSize,
[in, opt, hasdefault] FieldAttributeEnum Attrib);
The key differences between the two methods (apart from the underscore) is that
1) Append and _Append differ only in the presence of the critical parameter
FieldValue. Note that FieldValue is declared as [in, opt], but does not have a
hasdefault attribute.
2) _Append does not have an ID for the IDispatch interface. If I understand the
code correctly, this means it cannot be directly invoked through IDispatch.
I have a hypothesis, that native oleaut32 checks the number of parameters given
to the Invoke method. The Invoke method was given the ID of the Append method,
but in the 4-parameter case, _Append gets called instead, since its parameter
list more closely matches the actual usage. So the general rule might be: if
there are ommited parameters with [in, opt] attributes, but no hasdefault
attribute, then check whether an underscore-prefixed version of the method
exists which does not have the problematic parameter, and call that instead.
This obviously requires a testcase, but this seems sensible to me, at least in
principle. The underscore might then work as a kind of crude method
overloading. Builtin oleaut32 does not follow this rule, and ends up invoking
the wrong version of the method, with the exception explained earlier.

Visual Basic 6 testcase demonstrating bug.
This attachment is a minimal sample program that demonstrates the bug. The
program requires MDAC for the ADO objects. The program was demonstrated with
MDAC 2.8, but 2.6 might work as well.
When run, this program will display a dialog with two buttons. The top one with
the label "Ejecutar prueba" (Spanish for "Run test") will execute
CreateObject() to get an instance of an ADODB.Recordset, and then invoke the
Append method on the Fields member of the returned object. The exact sequence
of actions can be reviewed in the source code (wndPrueba.frm), in the method
cmdPrueba_Click().
The second button deliberately crashes in native as well as in builtin, and is
intended to demonstrate failure modes in order to write a testcase.
A trace is provided in the file salida.txt, included inside the tarball.

Summary: ADODB.Recordset.Fields.Append method fails when last
parameter omitted
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.24.
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: source, conformance
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: a_villacis(a)palosanto.com
Visual Basic application instantiates an ADODB.Recordset with late binding (say,
with the CreateObject function). The ADODB.Recordset object has a Fields member,
which is a collection of Field objects. The Fields Member has (according to the
docs) an Append member to add a new Field object. The documented signature is:
ADODB.Recordset.Fields.Append Name As String, Type As DataTypeEnum, DefinedSize
As ADO_LONGPTR, Attrib As ADODB.FieldAttributeEnum, FieldValue As Variant
The last three parameters are supposed to be optional.
With builtin oleaut32, the bug is as follows:
Works correctly: Append "fieldName", adVarChar, 128, adFldUnspecified, Empty
Throws exception: Append "numeroRucB", adVarChar, 128, adFldUnspecified
With native oleaut32 (WinXP), both calls work correctly.

I copied the d3dx9_26.dll into the system32 manually and you were correct, the
install continued this time.
Someone else pointed out that wine has it's own directx. I don't know how to
proceed to try to figure out how to make the Civ4 installer detect the wine directx.
Is there some conversion process to turn /usr/local/lib/wine/wined3d.dll.so into
"MS-DOS executable PE for MS Windows" dll format needed in the system32 directory?
Looking at opengl32, perhaps I guess the dll is some sort of wrapper that calls
into the .so file.

patient with me on the windows side of things.

The problem with this installer is that, for some reason, MSI thinks it's

Hm.. it's hard to tell from the logs what, precisely, is causing the installer
to quit. It looks as though it's GetProcAddress'ing a whole bunch of functions,
many of which return NULL, so any of them is a candidate for the cause of the
problem.
If you're a hacker, you might be able to tackle it. If not.. try again later ;)
Is there a demo available for the game?

* Added "ru_RU.CP1251 CP1251" line into "/var/lib/locales/supported.d/ru" file.
* Run `locale-gen` from root.
* Added "LANG=ru_RU.CP1251" to wine startup parameters.
Now everything works. Thanks for your patience.

Sorry to disappoint you but even with your startup parameters I've got the same
results for both binary and compiled wine versions.
I tried to run "LANG=ru_RU wine notepad" but it didn't accept cyrillic input
with the same message as I posted earlier.
When I run simple "wine notepad" (my locale is en_US) it didn't allow me to
enter cyrillic letters (but w/o any error messages) with default "System" font
(it had only "Western" script available). So I changed Notepad font to be
"DejaVu Sans" instead and script to "Cyrillic". Now I can enter cyrillic
symbols correctly in Notepad, but not with LANG=ru_RU.
My application doesn't have cyrillic output; when I'm trying to enter cyrillic
letters I've got "?" marks for en_US LANG. Obviously this application isn't
compiled with Unicode support contrary to Notepad.
Do you have any ideas?

Ok, I've got wine sources via git and compiled it as described in wiki for
Ubuntu distribution.
After running the application I've got neither cyrillic output nor input. At
least I had cyrillic output with binary package...
I'm running the application with following command:
LC_ALL=ru_RU.UTF-8 LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=ru_RU.UTF-8 /usr/local/bin/wine
grym.exe
Here's the log of wine messages (it's short so I'm not attaching it):

Correct, the problem was introduced with that change.
And it still persists in the CVS head.

Well, I just ran through the install, and started the game, and everything works
fine. I don't have to rename the movies folder. I don't have neither a crash on
start or on exit. So it's pretty much up to you to show why your install crashes
there. Is your wine prefix clean?

Alright, renamed the Movies folder to Movies~
If i just run wine .wine/blah/Warcraft III.exe -opengl it crashed the first
time. Then i ran WINEDEBUG=+relay,+seh wine Warcraft\ III.exe -opengl >&
relay.log to get the error log and it ran perfectly and generated a 300meg txt
file which i tried to open, but it crashed linux.
After the reboot, i tried wine warcraft III.exe -opengl again and it worked!
SUCCESS!
Only problem is it crashes on exit, but i guess that's not really a major
problem, but if you want i can place the error details here or another bug report.

AFAIK the installer of the demo checks for d3dx9_26.dll. Copy that dll into
system32, and see if the behaviour changes (that is, if the DirectX install is
skipped this way). If so, this bug should still be fixed (installer fails)

Summary: Need DIB engine - Unnormal slowness in Arx Fatalis
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.24.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: romain.iehl(a)gmail.com
I decided to create this bug, since bug 3902 is resolved.
The fps in the game Arx Fatalis drops dramatically in the game menus, and ingame
under certain circumstances, this is most likely due to the lack of a DIB
engine, as bug 3902.
The patch which solved bug 3902 doesn't seem to take into account the kind of
structure which is used in arx fatalis. I don't know much about it, but looking
at the code, the patch seems to check for this kind of dib, and discard it, as
it cannot handle it.
The wine output is filled with :
"fixme:bitblt:X11DRV_ClientSideDIBCopy potential optimization: client-side
compressed DIB copy"
