This is true, if the FLA file contains a picture (i.e. is not purely vector
graphics). The saved file gets corrupted. Verified with wine 0.9.24, probably
same on 0.9.23. This is a recent bug, wine 0.9.17 works fine.

If we were able to install DXSetup.exe by any means (using some native dlls,
hacks, etc.) and if Civ4 would become happy about this, then we could find the
stuff it needs to run without updating DX easier.
I mean, it could be done by comparing registry keys and file listings from clean
and updated ~/.wine directories, and eliminating the from the last until Civ4
starts to complain again. No?
Jeff, can you please find this DXSetup.exe file on your filesystem and post size
and md5sum of the file in this report (just for exact reference)?

Even copying these directx files from a working install, the game fails to
start. It crashes with the following message after loading character data
(before character-select):
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x11e73bc8 at address 0xa23fdd
(thread 0009), starting debugger...
This is using today's CVS.
So, while fixing the install of these DLLs is definitely an issue that needs to
be addressed, it unfortunately does not fix EverQuest.

Additional testing shows that:
- running the 32bit debian binary for 0.9.20 on Ubuntu 64bit has the same issue.
(therefore this is not a regression from 0.9.20 to 0.9.22).
- running the 0.9.24 binary as provided by winehq has the same issue as well.
- running the 32bit 0.9.24 binary locally through a X forwarding (ssh -X
localhost) also has the same issue.
Seems therefore related to the handling of X events in combination with the
32bit/64bit situation.

OK, thanks. I wasn't aware that it was supposed to work like that. Perhaps I
installed wine incorrectly or didn't configure something I was supposed to
configure. I see the dlls/wine3d3/ and I assume that is the directx part of wine
you are talk about. (I also found http://sourceforge.net/projects/directxwine/
but assume that has been merged or deprecated).
I'm not expecting civ4 to actually work. For what it's worth I also tried to
install it in the crossover product and cedega and it installed ok in cedega.
cedega installed the directx from the cdrom.

It helps for problem with registering dlls (I tested it with 0.9.24) .
But it still will not install. Criticl error "cant'start program" still
occurs. I sow output from debugger, and there are a lot messages about missing
files. Maybe this message is caused by some other missing files/libraries.

I don't think this is 100% correct, what wine misses are the d3dx9*.dll's and
that's why lot's of installers start the directX installation anyway. There is
already another bug opened for that (d3dx9* not implemented). However this
installer still seems to fail so i'd say :consider reopening this one.

When Simple Sudoku is started, the toolbar is hidden behind the third row of tiles.
After Minimizing and Restoring the main window, the toolbar is correctly placed,
but the client area is shifted up by the size of the menu bar and half of the
top toolbar, making the menu invisible.
The problem is the same with and without native comctl32, so it's likely to be a

I built Wine from git today and tried to install Civ4 to see how far it would
get. It got a lot farther than last time I tried! The install screen came up
with graphics and it popped into the DirectX installer. That is where it failed
to install. I've attached several files:
* Screenshots of the directx failure
* The DirectX.log file that the DirectX installer creates
* The stdout & stderr from wine (myoutput.wine)
* The strace from the DXsetup.exe (myoutput.6192.DXSetup.exe)
* The full strace logs for all the other spawned processes (strace.all.tar.bz2)
I set the environment variable WINEDEBUG=+process,+loaddll,+tid,+snoop and then
ran "strace -o myoutput -ff wine /media/cdrom/setup.exe &>myoutput.wine".
Once DirectX failed to install, I was able to click "finish" anyway and the Civ4
installer continued to run successfully. I didn't let it finish because all the
way, but it looked like it was going to.

works. but sometimes it shows color rectangles on its sreen (as it is resetting)
and then it freezes and i see this timeout messagein terminal. when i press
ctrl-c in terminal alnd launch it again it always works
i use wine with emulation of desktop window (800x600) if it is interesting.
system is mandrake 10.1, kernel is 2.6.11.11 and window manager is windowmaker.
graphics card is ati radeon 9600 with ati drivers.
i don't think it will help much, i just wanted to point to fact that same
message happens on older version then 0.9.22 too

Maybe SUSE NoExec protection is turned off by default? Please try to boot with noexec=on or use standard kernel downloaded from kernel.org instead.
For standard Linux kernel 2.6.18.x I can confirm this bug. I tried to compile Wine and kernel with different versions of the compiler (gcc) but result is the same. This is probably Wine bug and not kernel because all native application works perfectly - only Wine crashes.
Unfortunatelly debugging of this problem is problematic for me. Maybe I try again later...

Although I couldn't open the MClass Mastering Suite Combi (missing file?), I
tested the corrupted play button. I've just submitted a patch for the bug I
think was causing the regression to wine-patches. Bottom-up DIBs were being
misdetected.
Reason 3 makes heavy use of client-side DIB copying. Further work should make
it even faster. Thanks Willie, now I've got a good app to test my work on.

> In 2.6.17 and earlier, they work even with noexec=on.
just to clarify:
noexec controls the behaviour only for 64bit processes, so it doesn't (directly)
affect wine. And it is (and was) afaik always enabled per default when the cpu
supports NX.
noexec32 controls the behaviour for 32bit processes and it was off per default
until 2.6.16(?). It can only be activated if noexec is on. Setting noexec=off
implies noexec32=off.
There was a thread some time ago on wine-devel why noexec32=on breaks certain
windows applications: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.wine.devel/41332

Nick: Yeah I've also observed the higher eMule CPU usage under Wine on Linux
when compared with eMule on the same machine under Windows XP. Under heavy load
on Windows 3% is normal, but on Linux with Wine a comparable load runs around
14%. From watching my CPU monitor (GKrellM) while interacting with eMule's
interface, it seems like GUI drawing operations and event loops are responsible
for the lion's share of eMule's CPU usage.

http://wiki.winehq.org/GitWine or
http://www.winehq.com/site/docs/winedev-guide/x1344 for instructions.
Remember, one bug per report.
What do you mean by "it stops ti (to) display"?
What do you mean by "After deleting .wine everything
goes ok for a while." does it stop working eventually? How does it stop working?
It's not clear to me what version of wine you used to produce the given output
messages.

On linux kernel 2.6.18, i386 and x86_64 platforms, running with noexec feature
enabled (the default), a lot of windows apps cause wine to segfault or crash.
Booting Linux with noexec=off boot param makes the apps to work again. In
2.6.17 and earlier, they work even with noexec=on. There is probably a massive
stack corruption because it's not possible (at least for me) to get a valid
backtrace, even with a fully debug-enabled wine.

You're right : I'm experiencing exactly what you're describing, and I either
shut down manually emule when it happens, or my wrapper does it. So, I'll leave
emule running on its own as long as I can (probably ~2 days) to see how it behaves.

You're experiencing the phase just before the final crash happens, where
downloaded parts aren't able to be saved anymore and you see black/yellow
striped progress bars in the Transfers window and warnings in the status bar
about being unable to save some .met or .dat files. In my experience this state
is only temporary (it can last a couple of minutes to almost an hour) because it
always ends in a crash. If you have the time please do try to keep it running
longer to see if it happens to you.

You said your emule crashed, well, it never really crashes here, it just logs a
lot of errors "... too many open files" [which in fact means : too many open
handles, that is : sockets are also affected], and all connections are lost
forever, until I restart the app. After restarting it, I also experience data
corruption on .met/.dat files, which is probably due to emule being unable to
save the data because of the "too many open files" problem. I think there is an
option to force emule to regularly and securely save this data (in the advanced
options tab, can't remember the exact name), maybe it'll limit the data loss
during your tests. The above patch seems to resolve the whole bug for me, but
I'll try to test emule on my side for a longer time next weekend. I also use
kad+ed2k protocols, and I'll use the same settings as yours, just to be sure.

Summary: ALEPH500 crashes with X11DRV_DIB_DeleteDIBSection
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.24.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: luigi.messina(a)unimib.it
Hi,
i'm trying to run ALEPH 500, a library automation software client, under Linux.
This is, unfortunately a proprietary application, sold by ExLibris Group
(http://www.exlibrisgroup.com/aleph.htm).
The client features an installer program, which runs fine under wine and I've
been using to successfully install the software under wine, and about four
executable modules, the simplest one is CIRC.EXE, used for library circulation
activities such as loans, holdings and things like that.
The program starts and correctly displays the login/password window. Then, after
filling it with credentials and pressing OK, it displays the main window title
bar and menu bar, it hangs for some seconds and then crashes badly, with
0x7e5da114 X11DRV_DIB_DeleteDIBSection+0x34 in winex11: movl %eax,0x4(%ecx)
I'm using Ubuntu Edgy Eft 6.10 official release, with kernel 2.6.15-27-686 #1
SMP PREEMPT.
The wine package version i'm using right now is 0.9.24~winehq0~ubuntu~6.10-1
taken from http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/ repository, but I've reproduced
this, crashing always with the same message, also on Dapper Drake, both with
legacy wine packages and developement ones.
I've made many attemps, fiddling with winecfg options and trying with native
windows DLLs like comctl32, comdlg32 and shell32, without any noticeable
difference.
I also noticed the "use virtual desktop" option in winecfg is disabled for me,
maybe this can of help.

Summary: "make install" installs many libraries in wrong prefix

Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.24.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc

ReportedBy: rm.riches(a)verizon.net
With wine-0.9.22-mdk and wine-debug-symbols-0.9.22-mdk installed from binary RPM
on a Mandriva Linux 2006 system, built wine 0.9.24 from source, using
--prefix=/usr/local option to config, then installed. While the executables got
installed in /usr/local/bin, many libraries got installed in /usr/lib, in
violation of the specified prefix. A total of 397 files in /usr/lib were
overwritten by the install that should have sent all content to /usr/local/lib.
Many if not most applications can be installed with one RPM version in /usr/lib
and a non-RPM version in /usr/local/lib. I'll attach a list of filenames. This
problem not only corrupted the 0.9.22 installation but it caused failure of
attempts to run the 0.9.24 version from /usr/local on a machine that mounts
/usr/local over NFS.

According to developers, this is a problem with the DirectDraw code not being
thread-safe, so when DirectDraw gets fixed, SMP will not be a problem. In the
meantime, you can compile a kernel without SMP support and use it to play

Your DIB-copy patch introduced a regression, or exposed a bug. I just tested
Reason 3.0, a pro-audio application by Propellerhead*. The colors of one part
of the interface are completely messed up with your patch applied - hard to
describe. One of the "devices" (MClass Mastering Suite Combi) used to be light
gray, now it's grainy blue/ red/ yellow. The bug seems to be similar to bug
#1973, which is also supposed to be fixable using a real DIB engine.

There is no guarantee that you would get longdi~1 on Windows either, so I don't
think that's a bug. You can close it with wontfix instead of invalid if you
prefer, but either way unless there's a real app broken enough to depend on this
it's not something to worry about.

Please try again with latest wine git or 0.9.25. Another thing to do when you
get a lockup is attach winedbg to the process and get a backtrace. War3 should
not hang your entire system. You can also try disabling sound completely in
winecfg or in the game and see if it's reproducible. You can also check to see
if the game produces a crash dump in the Errors directory (relative to game
directory).

Without a fix, this will continue to be an issue as the new breeds of CPUs are

No, I'm not saying that this bug is invalid. I just was saying that it is not a
bug, but a different behaviour between Wine and Windows (which _is_ usually
considered as something to be fixed). Also, I'm proposing to change bug title to
something more correct (it sounds as "some basic function is broken" but the
sample actually wrong)

Since this is the place for discussing DIB engine related stuff, I'm posting
here to make you aware of the following.
On bug 3902, a pretty long discussion took place about the slowness of Heroes of
might and magic 4, which was caused by a lot of copying between DIBs and X11
pixmaps.
2 patches were made, one started by Iulian and finished by me, that calculates
the dirty rectangle of a bitmap before copying it, so less data has to be
copied. That patch would have to be extended significantly (every GDI function
has to set/clear the dirty rectangle), but people have reported improved
performance with just BitBlt setting/clearing the rect.
The other patch, which was committed today, was made by me, and it does
client-side copying of 15/16/24/32 bpp bitmaps (if you ever saw the "fixme:
potential optimization - client-side DIB copy", that's where it will help). This
patch vastly improves the performance of Heroes 4.
So can you please test all slow-running apps against the latest Git (or
alternatively against wine 0.9.24 patched with the client-side DIB copy patch
from bug 3902) and report how much it helps?

This sample is actually incorrect because it depends on particular method of
long-to-short filename conversion (and it would fail even on Windows if you
would have created, say, c:\longdirectorywithdifferentname)
GetShortPathName should return short (8.3) pathname what is an alias to long
file name and vice-versa with GetLongPathName. AFAIK wine's implementation do this.
So, this bug should be treated as "Wine's method of long-to-short conversion
differs from Windows'". Actual code for this buried somewhere in wineserver.

t35t0r, that means ies4linux overrides too much dlls to load as native. And
code of native DLLs is harder to debug.
If you could reduce count of native DLLs to the very minimal and then report
exact list of them (+process,+tid,+loaddll debug channels would suffice, I
believe), then maybe someone would help you...
BTW, have you tried installing IE6 without native DLLs and seeing if it works?

Ok basically the thing is this:
Under windows you execute Juiced.exe for the first time, it automatically
launches JuicedConfig.exe and after you made your settings, game starts.
Wine misses somehow to execute the the game after the settings dialog.

Any news on this bug? It seems to be around a few (?) years now with a working
solution. If the diff has been tested (no side effects) I suggest to finally
commit it ... otherwise it will never help anyone.

Output while running the installer
These are the interesting ones from the log I think:
err:msi:extract_cabinet_file FDICopy failed
err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles Unable to ready media
err:msi:ITERATE_Actions Execution halted, action L"InstallFinalize" returned
1627
It actually shows up as a message box:
Title = "Feature Transfer Error"
Message = "Error: -1627 ERROR_FUNCTION_FAILED"

I believe the patch would have to be applied to the source code prior to
compilation.
It would appear the bug is marked as 'unconfirmed' simply because nobody has yet
clicked on the "Confirm bug" button. I tried clicking on the button, but got a
big RED message that only the owner, submitter, or sufficiently empowered user
is allowed to do that. I'm seeing the same behavior, so it looks like four of
us. The original reporter should be able to change it to 'new' from 'unconfirmed'.
Unless I'm mistaken, the remarks in comments #1 and #5 are saying the same thing
about importing the Column_EN registry setting from a Windhose installation,
seeing the correct columns, then seeing the columns disappear after selecting
another tab and returning to the 'individual' tab.

I haven't the faintest idea as to what to do with a patch nor can I understand
why this bug remains as "unconfirmed". I know I'm not the only one to have the
problem.
I've made a discovery, however. In a Windows installation I've found that the
Individual tab headings are in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER -- SOFTWARE -- LDS CHURCH
-- Personal Ancestral File 5 -- Column EN -- binary value. If I import this key
and run PAF the Individual page is correctly displayed. However, upon clicking
another tab and then returning to Individual screen the display is blank once more.
Looks like Wine is overwriting the registry value as the user moves from display
screen to display screen.

This is probably a dup of bug #6183.
Disable the sound and you can go ingame with highest video settings.
Seems that all Need for Speed Games from Underground 1 to Most Wanted suffer
from this problem.

Update : after leaving wine+emule running for ~14 hours, I've cancelled my test
downloads and disconnected emule from the network, to close all active connections.
After 5 minutes (to be sure ghost connections were closed too), I measured the
number of leaked handles : exactly zero.
It's a total success for me, hope it'll work for others too.
