Missing Text in World of warcraft. Problem exists in 0.9.21 & 0.9.22. On ATI
9550 hardware. ( I don't think the problem exists on Nvidia hardware ).
Adding the DisabledExtensions key to the registry as per the WoW AppDB page
fixes the problem, however this isn't the correct solution.
See http://appdb.winehq.org/appimage.php?iId=3948 for an example.

When running wow on wine, when you exit the game the WoW screen just freezes and

Tested in a console, and get the same error, as well as some err:imagelist
errors as cmd.exe starts - which I assume is just because no X server is available.
Also - the crash doesn't occur with "rename", which just reports "Path not
found" as it should.

PowerDVD 4.0 is installable, if this workaoround is made:
Copy mfc42.dll in the /windows/system32 directory, with the corresponding dll
override in winecfg.
Detailed:
0. rm -rf ~/.wine
1. run winecfg and set mfc42.dll for overriding
2. copy mfc42.dll into the /windows/system32 directory
3. install PowerDVD
The idea was delivered from bug 6034 by Louis Lenders. Thanks Louis!

Unfortunately the fix that worked on the work computer does not fix the home
computer. The celeron box still can't start the game. Not clear what is
required to correct this, but it is an ugly error and may force me to go back to
dual boot. Did try removing the shading and running emulation but no
combination turned the system back on.
This remains a bug.
It seems to be hardware specific, so I will try to be more specific about my HW.
Not tonight though.

wine. The patch i'll attach hereafter avoids the crash, but i do not know if
it's fully correct, so i attach it here so hopefully someone can review this.

Summary: kernel32:Simple MSDN sample does not work.
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: xerox_xerox2000(a)yahoo.co.uk
Hi, the simple sample from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/fileio/fs/…
(end of the page) does not work for me in wine.
The output on wine is:
The full path name for the file test.txt is: C:\testfile.txt
The short path name for the directory c:\longdirectoryname is: c:\LONG~TX4
GetLongPathName failed with error 2.
On windows you get:
The full path name for the file test.txt is: C:\testfile.txt
The short path name for the directory c:\longdirectoryname is: c:\LONGDI~1
The long path name for the directory c:\longdirectoryname is: c:\longdirectoryname
I was not able to compile the sample with i386-mingw-gcc, because the linker
complained that _GetLongPathName could not be found, which is another strange
thing. So i compiled it on windows, and i'll attach executable hereafter.
There's also another bug in GetLongPathNameW, but i'll file separate bug for that.

You should read your log a bit more above:
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program Files\
\CyberLink\\PowerDVD\\CLFQEngine.dll") not found
err:module:import_dll Library MSVCP60.dll (which is needed by L"C:\\Program File
s\\CyberLink\\PowerDVD\\UPnP\\CLSplter.ax") not found
If you copy them, (and gdiplus.dll) to system32 , before you start the
installation, the installation works fine for me. Only thing is it takes a
_really_ long time (~ 15 min). It copies al lot of gifs and html files, and that
really takes a long time. But that's another bug.

On win2k:
c:\> cd "C:\Program Files\ACD Systems\ACDSee\9.0"
c:\Program Files\ACD Systems\ACDSee\9.0\> ACDSee9.exe
Displays error "The dynamic link library ACDInTouch53.dll could not be found..."
This is trial version and installed properly. Double-clicking on the link works.

Reply from ACDSee Systems:
-----------------------------
We have a work around for this issue which is as follows:
Copy all the .dll files to the appropriate application folder:
From: C:\Program Files\Common Files\ACD Systems\EN
&
From: C:\Program Files\Common Files\ACD Systems\
To: C:\Program Files\ACD Systems\ACDSee\9.0\
There is no need to reboot, the program should open directly after the files
have been copied.

Changing graphics modes and trying stuff I stumbled on something that seems to
work. Using winecfg you can let the display manager handle the game, and set
the display manager to provide an 800x600 window.
This reached the opening menu, which is to say, it got past the point at which
the bug has previously appeared. I have yet to determine if this means it is
playable. respectfully

It uses an intel 810 chipset while the previous one was a geForce.
It displays slightly differently than the previous one, but occurs in the same
place in the installation sequence and looks like the same thing on the
surface.
The ddraw prelude to the crash seems instructive.
Was there something about limiting the use of the ddraw 9 instructions?
Anyway, still not working.

I tried setting virtual desktop mode in winecfg, didn't seem
to change anything. But I can see there might be some fighting
between the app and the window manager - the taskbar pops
up after a second. Well, I'm no expert, either, guess we'll just
have to wait for someone who knows these issues to have a look.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible if the window manager is controlling the
windows, something like the splash keeps being redrawn over the
messagebox/window trying to pop up. I think it's possible for a window to not
show up in the taskbar for some reason or other, but then again, I'm not an
expert on this area, thus the "sounds like." The symptoms are similar to other
bug reports where that is a problem, so I thought I'd share. I think running
the installer in virtual mode will help. If no window pops up, then this is
probably not the case.

In fact, yesterday I had a conversation on both gnome as nautilus' IRC channel
and they gave some help. This results in me having a script "startSPSS.sh" that
contains:
wine /home/scapor/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/SPSS/spsswin.exe $(winepath -w $*)
This is associated as application for the .sav files and everything works fine
now. Somehow this "hack" should be brought upstream. Now, is it wine's task to
make .desktop entries for installed programs that created windows links in
startmenu/on desktop of the "fake" windows environment ? Well, there should be
a script for it too as the winepath conversion can't be done inside the Exec
line of a .desktop file. Any idea how this could be better integrated and who's
task it would be ? wine's ? the distro's ? gnome's ?

Sounds like there might be a window hidden behind the splash (a common problem
with Wine). I think running in a virtual desktop solves this problem, or you
can press whatever key combination allows you to move a certain window and move
it from behind the splash screen. Then again, this might not be the problem at all.

Warcraft III hangs in BattleNet when joining to a game which host's ports are
not opened. This does not happen under Windows, it may be caused due to the
higher TCP timeout in Linux.

Sounds simple enough. I assume you do this _before_ you compile and link,
rather than after, right? So you are modifying the source, rather than the
executable?

Not entirely correct. To make it as close as possible to native you should do
something like:
#!/bin/sh
wine start "`winepath -w "$1"`"
Of course you have to have that file type associated within Wine with
appropriate application.

There are two kinds of patches around, mostly: old generation and new
generation. Command to apply old patches:
$ cat old_style_patch.diff | patch -p0
Command to apply new patches:
$ cat new_style_patch.diff | patch -p1
To do that right you should be already in a directory containing Wine source.
Patch from Vitaliy is a new one.
Heck, guys, I can't find any place in our Wine docs about this case. Page of
CodeWeavers has one:
[2]http://www.codeweavers.com/support/docs/wine-user/getting-wine-source#GET…
I'll probably open another bug report about applying as I don't know where to
put such directions nicely.

they go here unmodified (except the argument number zero, full pathname of the
application that is). Generic offer is to run it such way, I believe:

I got no sound at all. I get the following error as soon as the game starts up:

displayed once, and if I move it over it again it will be displayed again but it
doesn't seem to spit this line out continuously):

Baldur's Gate II crashes if I select one of the follwoing classes in character

work fine.
More Information on the Crash:
After the class selection screen the game should display the kit selection
screen. A kit is something like a sub-class. Each class has its own set of kits.
All aforementioned classes have one thing in common: They offer exactly three
kits. When selecting Sorcerer, Monk, Barbarian (those offer no kits) or Mage
(has nine kits) the game doas not crash.

Doesnt really is a installer problem. 3D Setup is just a little utility to
detect the graphics card.
Problem is that the prog detects nothing. And also writes nothing to the
registry.
e.g. "Trash Driver" ""
As result when u start the game, it complains dx0 is installed.

The extracted setup.exe calls a custom action that tries to load clusapi.dll and
resutils.dll with LoadLibrary. These calls fail so the custom action returns an
error, thus the install halts. We need stubs for these two dlls before we can
test this any further.

This is actual behaviour of SwitchToThisWindow(hWnd, FALSE);
The previously active window is sent to the back of the z-order.
This emulates the Alt+Esc key behaviour.

The "App Paths" key is checked by ShellExecute. If you run ACDSee from the

Since Delphi encapsulates the win API there are a lot of things that happen in
the the base applicaion frameworks. So what happens after the ok or cancel
button will require tracing with debug channels or other debugging methods or
programs. If there is a debug channel or two that will log the messages I can
get some logs.
Here is the source and exe of a one line program Delphi 3 applicaion to execute

Summary: Running copy or move in cmd.exe with no files crashes
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: l_bratch(a)yahoo.co.uk
In Wine's built in cmd.exe, if you run copy or move without specifying any files
to copy/move, cmd.exe will crash.
1) Run "wine cmd.exe"
2) Type either "move" or "copy" on its own.
Wine then crashes.
Expected result should be something like "no file specified".
This occurs on the latest CVS as of a few minutes ago.
Back trace is attached.

Leslie, first of all it would be nice to know how did you get your Wine
installed. By default Wine compiles unstripped own library files. But some
packages strips the debug info, I am afraid. Hence my question:)

After more debugging and printing sessions ;-) I spotted part of the problem.
Comparing the ppd files of the generic postscript printer that Detlef
suggested and the one from my lexmark (and some others) revealed, that the
PaperDimension, PageRegion, PageSize and ImageableArea differs. If I edit the
ppd File and set the those options to the values of the generic ps pdf printer
my lexmark prints nearly perfectly for papersize A4 :-)))
The most important option is ImageableArea to move the origin into the
printeable area:
set
*ImageableArea A4/A4: "0 0 595 842" (original lexmark.ppd)
to
*ImageableArea A4/A4: "18 36 595 842"
I think, that my other applications (that print correctly) use custom margins
that override the settings in the ppd. Looks like this is no bug in Wine, but
a problem with the ppd files.
What still remains are wrong printouts with papersizes larger than A2. I will
test this and look wether this also corresponds with those options in the ppd
files.

Bug persists under wine 0.9.21
No-longer results in page-fault and exit: simply hangs indefinitely with no output.

To team:
should this be under wine-console component?
I've no idea - it runs under windows console.
5224 doesn't have testing under 0.9.21

This seems to be a duplicate of bug 5224.
Keywords 'Grim Fandango patch' should be put in to 5224's summary!
