Checking this on a W2000 dual booting on the same hardware and it ALSO fails to
run in a native Windows environment. On my laptop with XP it runs OK. On a
350 AMD running W98 it runs OK. The cataclysm forum at relic contains some
instructions about making things run which may prove useful. I will try some of
the command line options. The fault on W2k is also somehow related to hardware
and directx and it's all pretty nasty. I may create a 3rd boot option using
W98 on that hardware, as the compatibility issues for W2k are pretty major.

Summary: a-10 cuba fails to change resolution and to be topmost

Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.22.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.gamershell.com/download_8121.shtml

Status: UNCONFIRMED

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mizvekov(a)gmail.com
a-10 cuba used to work on older versions of wine, but now there
are 2 regressions:
when you are in the mission selection window and you start the game by
clicking in fly mission button, this window keeps on top of the
directdraw window, making the game unplayable. This only happens when you are
NOT in virtual desktop mode, otherwise its ok.
Changing resolution in the preferences window doesnt change the
resolution per se, but the game draws in-game windows and fonts
bigger, making everything look weird. This happens in BOTH virtual desktop mode
and window mode.
What looks suspect is this:
fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetCooperativeLevel (0x16cfd0)->((nil),00000008)
fixme:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetCooperativeLevel (0x16cfd0)->(0x10046,00000013)
Ive read the description of this function, and those 2 errors seem
related to that.
you can download the demo (7mb) from:
http://www.gamershell.com/download_8121.shtml
It exhibits those 2 problems as well, exactly like the full game.
Other than that, and directplay, the game is 100% fine, and i hope by fixing
that the game could go silver.
Thank you.

Vitaliy, I tried your patch this weekend, but it still hangs whenever I move the
mouse. Thanks for submitting it, though; I appreciate your effort.
I thought I would document the exact procedure I used to apply the patch, for
the benefit of anyone who hasn't done it before. It really wasn't that
difficult, and I hope others will now be willing to try it.
First, I logged in as root and removed the version of wine I had installed with yum:
#yum remove wine
Next, I downloaded the source for wine 0.9.21 ("wine-0.9.21.tar.bz2") from
sourceforge.net and Vitaliy's patch ("hook_complete.diff") from Bugzilla. I
unpacked the wine source code:
#bunzip2 wine-0.9.21.tar.bz2
#tar xvf wine-0.9.21.tar
I went into the new wine install directory and ran the initial configuration setup:
#cd wine-0.9.21
#./configure
I then applied the patch, compiled wine, and installed it:
#cat ../hook_complete.diff | patch -p1
#make depend
#make
#make install
It really was that easy.
Anyone else have any patches they would like me to try? Or anything else I can
do to help diagnose the problem? As always, thanks in advance to anyone who
responds.

it is wine's bug because wine is calling arts on machines that do not use arts.
hence, wine should be smart enough to not call arts on machines that do not use
arts. or have the system set up so that if arts does get called that things are
as arts expects.

I highly suspect you are seeing the results of the ddraw rewrite. Wine no longer
supports DGA. This means starcraft is completely unaccelerated in default
0.9.22. Therefore you either need a very fast machine or you need to use the
opengl backend with an Nvidia Geforce 2-FX. See the appdb. Setting the color
depth to 8bpp helps prevent the need for color conversions also.
I wanted to resolve this WONTFIX, but I'll give you chance to find perhaps a
regression if your problem is linked to something else.
Starcraft is plenty fast for me, in both unaccelerated gdi surfaces,
accelerated, and as well on my ubuntu test box--700Mhz.

Wine: 0.9.22 for Ubuntu from WineHQ
Starcraft under this version of Wine is much slower than with 0.9.9 that comes
with Ubuntu Dapper. I just installed 0.9.22, and speed of the game became
greatly reduced. After downgrading to 0.9.9, it went back to
extra-fast-and-smooth (better than windows).
Starcraft under 0.9.22 is laggy and speed momentarily goes up for half a second,
then again drops, goto 1.
If needed, I am ready to help track down the exact version that caused this
behavior, but will probably need some guidance.

it appears that arts tries to make a new directory in the user's .kde directory,
but since .kde does not exist (because the user is not running kde), winecfg
crashes because the directory cannot be created. a simple solution would simply
be to detect whether .kde exists, and if not, then don't attempt arts. here's

bugzilla alone, let alone on the mailing lists. If the problem were easy to
solve, it would have been fixed by now.

James,
i appologize for not doing my homework before submitting this issue. however, i
don't think duplicate bugs are a bad thing. it tells you which parts of the
software your users are having the most issues with, and thus what you should
direct your attention at. seems like this is something that would be easily
fixable and impact a lot of users.

I can confirm the full version AvP has the same bug appearing at commit:
c8901d6f6253f6c97610eb1068ac4ff89758ed0a
I am seeing a different manifestation of this bug using the GIT wine build.
Textures rendered, but some red boxes around text, and again very slow framerate.
See screenshot AvP-git-shot.png
Is there some patch / different behaviour in the gentoo ebuild which might cause
this?

Possibly, but as soon as one kills WINE through "wineserver -k" everything
returns to normal. I think that somehow the window maximizes, but doesn't
redraw, so it catches all of the Mouse Events and prevents redrawing of
everything behind it.

Does the for loop "for(i=0; i<msihandletable_size; i++)" execute the entire

it only execute the line directly below it without using brackets to group the
statements after the loop?

It seems the problem is related to the --libdir=/usr/lib32 option passed to the
configure script by Portage.
If I compile Wine from the tarball with that option Civ3:C doesn't work (it
works without), while if I edit the ebuild to not set it, Civ3:C works (and I
didn't need to apply any patch, yeah!).
Btw, I never installed Wine from the tarball (or git), I always ran it from the
directory where I built it.

Summary: Minimizing Steam causes a freeze of the graphical shell

Version: 0.9.22.

Priority: P2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

While running steam outside of a virtual desktop, attempting to minimize it
causes something important to crash. (Be it gdm, metacity, SOMETHING important
because the GUI becomes unresponsive). However, going into a virtual terminal
and executing "wineserver -k" and then going back into the graphical shell works
just fine, meaning that perhaps nothing is being "killed" but Steam is just
doing something bad.

With today's wine, and today's Dark Ages of Camelot downloadable
trial, the installer completes successfully with remarkably
few console messages. I can't see any hint of the original complaint.
Unfortunately, running camtest.exe seems to have wininet
problems, as it then bombs out
after updating one file, and running camelot.exe bombs out
complaining that many key files are missing or corrupted.
I doubt many files are missing, as all two gigabytes seem to have
been installed.
Let's focus on the apparant wininet problem with camtest.exe...
I'll leave the installer keyword on, as the updater is
kind of like the last step of the installer.

minimizing to tray when "close to tray" is checked in uTorrent works,
minimizing with minimize button when "minimize to tray" is checked doesnt.
I suspect the window manager sees the minimize click and does its thing -
minimizes anyway. Ill try it with something other than metacity and report back.

This bug is difficult to fix due to limitations with X. The X protocol does not
give exact control over the Z order of windows, and the window manager is
permitted to ignore requests from Wine (or any other application) to place
windows in certain positions.
In short, it's not solved because it's difficult to make it work right with all
X window mangaers.

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: michael.s.gilbert(a)gmail.com
when i start half life 2 from the steam games menu, it launches, then displays
the valve splash screen, then loading, then it drops out to my desktop. about
30 seconds later, i hear the sound of the soldiers walking around as should be
expected in the hl2 main menu. however, i still am at the desktop, and there is
no taskbar button for hl2. now, if i right-click on the steam icon, and select
exit, boom, i am back in hl2. i can confirm the same behavior for both xfce and
gnome desktop environments.
fyi, i am running debian etch, which i suggest you use to test this behavior.
thank you for your consideration.

fyi, i opened winecfg while running kde, and selecting the "Audio" tab works
just fine. then, i logged out and back in to xfce, and again the "Audio" tab
does work. so it appears that if the audio tab has never been pressed, winecfg
attempts to access mcop. once the user access the audio tab while in kde,
winecfg seems to no longer need access to mcop. i believe winecfg should not
need to access mcop regardless of whether this is the first time or any
subsequent time accessing the audio tab.

Summary: [PATCH] TIME_ClockTimeToFileTime calculation incorrect
on FC5
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.21.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sveit(a)earthlink.net
The TIME_ClockTimeToFileTime function incorrectly divides the clock ticks by
1000000 on Fedora Core 5. The calculation is correct on Fedora Core 3. The
problem is that the code uses the obsolete CLK_TCK macro, which doesn't exist on
FC5. On FC3 the is set to 100. The code defines CLK_TCK as CLOCKS_PER_SEC
(defined as 1000000) on FC5. According to the times(2):
The number of clock ticks per second can be obtained using
sysconf(_SC_CLK_TCK);
In POSIX-1996 the symbol CLK_TCK (defined in <time.h>) is mentioned as
obsolescent. It is obsolete now.
The attached patch fixes this problem.

Adding a little more informtion....
Some numeric keys do work but they don't seem to function the same in windows,
there seems to be two separate symptoms and it may be something to do with
numeric lock, however the problem described as regards the 0 key remains true.

Summary: Numeric keypad keys do not work in WoW or only work
once.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.22.
Platform: PC
URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=5606
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-resources
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: nlaw(a)nildram.co.uk
The numeric keypad does not work in wow running on 0.9.22 or any earlier versions.
Specifically selecting options in wow then selecting key bindings you can assign
a n action to a key. This doesn't work, when you press a key you should see the
key number ie 0123456789 or home,PgUp, PgDn, End etc appear on the key binding
button in wow. This doesn't happen.
A clue to the cause of the bug could be this ......
The numeric keypad button 0 is programmed in wow as standard to make the
character jump. Now, if you start the game, select you character & enter the
world then press the numeric keypad key '0' the character does indeed jump. If
you press numeric pad key '0' again, the character does not jump. So the key
basically can be pressed once then that's it...it won't work anymore.
If you exit the game & restart, then once again you can only use the key once.
This is not how it behaves in windows.
Any developers that know what general area I should start looking for the bug,
please let me know.
Regards
Nick

start the game, choose "play the demo"
choose "join game" and try joining a game. currently because of the really
recent release of the game the server list is SWAMPED. most of the games won't
be connectable because of missing port forwarding of the hosts.
when you can't connect to a server it will count the number of attempts and
return to the server list.
if you try to connect to a server and you can reach the server you'll see the
game freeze for a couple of seconds and then crash. i'll attach the error log

i marked this as critical, because defcon is a multiplayer focused game.

seems the games need pixel shader enabled. Check in winecfg that support for

#
As of git on June 9th, 2006, you can use GLSL by enabling this registry key:
*
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D\UseGLSL -> "enabled" (it is case

More info:
I *thought* this had been fixed because fonts were being drawn correctly.
Then I found out that my TrueType fonts were not in my X font server setup.
When I added them to the font server config and restarted the font server, BAM!
the fonts were at an angle again - and also were very small (I run a very high
DPI screen).
I would conjecture that when non-Truetype X fonts were being used, then all was
well, but adding the TrueType fonts exposed the bug again.

I tried running $ msiexec /i Adobe\ Audition\ 2.0.msi
As I expected, it didn't work, but now the installer popped up an error message
about an unsupported OS and wine printed out some error messages and FIXME's too.
See the new attachment (will be posted shortly). You can see it whines about
missing MSVCR71.dll. But I downloaded a native version this DLL and the result
was almost the same, only difference was that it didn't complain about missing
MSVCR71.dll.
So, as the problem seems to be with MSI, I changed the component accordingly.

Summary: Ballance hangs on rendering a specific effect
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.22.
Platform: PC
URL: ftp://ftp.avault.com/demos/ballance_demo.exe
OS/Version: BSDI
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: daniel.skorka(a)stud.uni-karlsruhe.de
Both the demo (see download) as well as the full version suffer from this. In
this game, you control a ball. When this ball runs into a powerup that gives you
another ball, the powerup is shown to burst (it is represented as a soap
bubble). At least, this is what happens under Windows. In wine, the beginning of
this animation is rendered, then the game hangs. There is an odd workaround:
When this happens, change focus to the terminal from which you started the game.
Hit CTRL-C and return to the game window. The game continues normally.

This commit introduced this behaviour with earlier versions of fontforge:
commit 593665b6b9ecd7e149fe8e33f84f732d3c20914a
Author: Huw Davies <huw(a)codeweavers.com>
Date: Tue Apr 4 20:46:55 2006 +0100
fonts: Add a few missing glyphs.
:100644 100644 86c34f4... 9d7011f... M fonts/ms_sans_serif.sfd
As fontforge support pkg-config, detecting the required version in configure.ac
should be trivial. "$PKG_CONFIG --atleast-version=20060703 fontforge" should be
adequate after checks that pkg-config is present and sufficiently recent. (The
version used here is the version I upgraded to after regression testing and
seems to work perfectly. The tests were performed with 20050502.)

Note: the double GW_HWNDNEXT on my system is because you can't actually send a

No need for your step 1. It should work even without setting mfc42.dll
to be overridden; just copying it (or installing some app that installs it)
should do fine.
In general any recipe that has a step "... and mark this DLL as override ..."
cannot be used to close a bug in wine. (In this case you're fine since
wine does not ship a mfc42.dll, but e.g. marking ole32 as override is never
going to fly, as Wine does include ole32.dll, and the dlls that do come with Wine
*have to work*.)

Are there some differenc between git and cvs? I am using latest cvs (20060929)
and it is stil there. OSS+Hardware, OSS+Emulation, Alsa+Hw, Alsa+Emu, ARTS+Hw,
ARTS+Emu, still the same crash. It is happening when I try to start Career from
begining, or Challeng Series. There is only one Challeng series working with
sound, it is number 69 (last).
My system is:
Debian Sid, kernel 2.6.18 (250Hz, SMP), 1GB RAM, CPU Intel Core 2 Duo X6800,
Nvidia GF6800GS PCI-E (latest stable drivers), Sound Blaster Live! I tried it
with integrated sound card (same problem), with different MB+CPU+RAM (A 64

problems in cedega.

I can confirm this. We have had to modify our software to hide the splash
screen when asking for registration details, otherwise the registration form
is not visible and is sitting behind the splash screen.
This seems a very important bug. It must affect almost every Windows app that
uses modal forms, and I'm surprised it was not fixed years ago.
