Upgrade your Wine before reporting problems.
You have to have at least wine-0.9.20
If you can not update - report that problem to your distro. Or build Wine from
source.

Summary: Rollercoaster Tycoon unhandled exception
Product: Wine
Version: 20050310
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: piotrwozniak0(a)wp.pl
The problem is as follows: RCT 1 (polish lang. version, seems unsupported by the
vendor?), unpatched version (AFAIK, patch for this ver doesn't exist) doesn't
install and doesn't run.
I got around the installation problem by installing it on another computer with
win'98 installed and copying the installed files on a cd, then onto my laptop
(the perpetrator of this bug). It's impossible to install it properly on the
laptop since it "Can't copy files".
When I try to run the rct.exe file, it asks for the cdrom, and when the correct
path is entered the screen goes garbled for a moment (see footnote 1) and then
it crashes with this error: "Exception raised - access violation. Error
location: Unknown" - NB, wine exits with 'a successful status'.
Footnote 1: 'He who upgrades does not always win..." - my laptop is too new, and
I can't get a working graphics chipset driver for linux, so graphics from other
games gets mangled also. OpenGL *sometimes* works though.
Missing info: The computer is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro v2030 laptop, running
Knoppix 4.0 (hd-install) - so essentially it's Debian testing/unstable. Proper
graphics card drivers missing (see footnote 1). Can't upgrade Wine since it
(apt-get / synaptics pkg mgr) wants to remove most of my system, including the
whole KDE (which I use) and kernel (!!!). Building from source doesn't work
either, so I'm stuck with this version.

at the wrong resolution.

Hello Benjamin,
Still having an issue with the compile of Wine. I have followed your
instructions to the letter and have started from scratch using Wine 0.9.21
autoconf 2.60 and gcc 4.1.0
It looks like there is an issue with the make depend command, something about a
"missing separator" - Is it possible that there is something wrong with the
patch file that I have - have I got an out-of-date version perhaps?
I have attached a couple of text files which are my standard and error output
for your review.
Believe it or not I am quite technical in the real world! But this is the first
time I have got into some nitty gritty on linux for years.
Thanks again for your assitance to a "newbie".
Kind regards
James Gillies

Robert, Wine already provides all the necessary cd-rom IO support, and this is
evident with some forms of copy protection already working. The problem with
*safedisc* is that it runs by loading a device driver. The code necessary to
load the device driver had been written, but not ready for merging.
Mount/Unmounting is totally independent of Wine...

------- Additional Comments From esd45(a)earthlink.net 2006-23-09 01:36 -------
This likely could be fixed by providing direct CDROM IO libararys. Additionally
this method would fix mount/unmount issues on CDs for all apps, and fix almost
all copy protection systems that do not require external DRM/crypto apps.
Most copy protection methods need direct IO to the CDROM to be able to make the
hash they use to verify the disk.

When somebody submits a test result they have to fill in the 'what works', 'what
doesn't' and 'what wasn't tested fields.
I believe the software used to check that they entered something in those fields
rather than just left them blank.
The Appdb no longer appears to check whether the person submitting the test
results has left those fields empty.
What should happen is that it checks and requires the tester to enter data into
all three fields before the test result can be submitted.

The v0.2 is more correct because it fixes upside down ship icon in Pirates.
(Shader case?)

It puts back the Upsidedown case that makes Star Wars Battlefront skybox upside

I haven't noticed anything else wrong.

Just an update on the progress of this patch:
I sent it to wine-patches some time ago, and AJ was concerned that it wasn't
synchronised properly. I resent it with some fixups, and still no go. One
issue is that the whole d3d and ddraw code is not thread safe yet. I started
making ddraw thread safe, and decided to wait with this patch until ddraw and
wined3d are thread safe as a whole. The thread safety patches for ddraw are
currently beeing reviewed by Alexandre, but he is pretty busy at the moment.

And the problem is?
Wine can print LOTS AND LOTS of fixme messages. That doesn't mean it's an error.
It could be something that's not implemented yet. Or just a reminder that things
might not work right.

getting latest Wine from GIT and see how it goes.
At a glance, it doesn't look (to me) like those patches deal with the specific
problem I'm experiencing though.

a) 0.9.21 fails (Ubuntu Dapper) like 0.9.19.
I.e. the GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest bug from 0.9.20 is gone, but no other
improvement.
b) With the well-working 0.9.15 and .16, it's important to use "enable desktop
double buffering" in winecfg. Otherwise, chopping/staccato effects known from
0.9.19/20/21 appear as soon as the game opens its window, making it unplayable
(but unlike the newer versions, it doesn't hang).
With 0.9.19/20/21, this switch has no effect.

Summary: Starting from 0.9.10 until now, some Powerpoint
Documents have mangled fonts in PP Viewer
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.10.
Platform: PC
URL: http://alain.knaff.lu/bug-reports/wine/Soldes.pps
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine(a)wine.lka.org.lu
I have a Power Point document here (Soldes.pps, you can download it from
http://alain.knaff.lu/bug-reports/wine/Soldes.pps) whose fonts appear slightly
mangles in 0.9.9, and seriously mangled in all versions from 0.9.10 to now,
when viewed with Microsoft's Power Point Viewer (downloadable from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/powerpoint2000/ppview97/2000/WIN98/E…)
Until 0.9.8, everything is ok (press Enter a couple of times to see
presentation), all texts display normally.
In 0.9.9, texts are displayed in a less nice font, which looks slightly more
blockish than in the versions before. Moreover, it doesn't have the Euro sign.
Starting from 0.9.10 until now (0.9.21), all text appears all mashed up (i.e.
in words and sentences, each letter is printed over the previous letter,
rather than to the right of it).
As tested with 0.9.21, the problem shows up both on-screen (x11) and when
printing it out.
The problem has been observed on SuSE 10.0 and SuSE 10.1.

After applying the patch you need to run "make_dlls" from dlls/ and "autoconf"
from the wine top level directory. Then you can do ./configure && make depend
&& make.
Also, make sure you are using autoconf 2.60 or greater.

Hello Benjamin,
Thanks very much for looking into this, and please bear with me I am still very new to Wine but learn
quickly.
It would appear that after applying your patch to a fresh source tree of wine 0.9.21 with:
patch -p1 > adds-stub-implementation-nddeapi.bin
inside the wine-0.9.21 dir this is patched fine.
I then figured out that I *think* I had to run make_dlls inside the /dlls dir.
When I did a ./configure inside the wine-0.9.21 dir but I did not see it "pick up"/create dlls for the new
dll name even though I could see the line:
dlls/nddeapi/Makefile
inside the configure.ac file
The problem boils down to if I run a "make depend" the process fails saying:
Entering directory 'home/james/wine/wine-0.9.21/dlls/nddeapi'
*** No rule to make target 'depend' Stop.
*** [nddeapi/__depend__] Error 2
If I then try to run "make" on it's own the process falls over when it gets to that dll as well.
Can you offer any suggestion as to where I am going wrong?
Thank you very much in advance.
Kind regards
James Gillies

If freetype (of freetype-devel) can not work _properly_ without zlib, then they
have depend on it. Not Wine (which does not use it).

"FreeType 2 runtime libraries installed, but freetype-config is not in your PATH"
freetype-config was in my path, but zlib-devel wasn't installed. after I
installed the zlib-devel package everything worked fine.
Would be a good idea to fix that, so the ./configure script says zlib-devel is
missing.

Please, in the future, do not paste your output in the comments field, please
output to a file and attach the file, as it makes the bugs easier to read.
What doe the program itself do when all of this is going on? Does it crash,
give you some error, does it just not ever show anything on the screen?
At what point is this error from, the start, when you try to do something
specific, when you try to close it?
This information will give us a basis of where to start troubleshooting.

implementation
This is a patch for the current git tree. I cleaned it up so it could apply to
the current GIT tree, but it was coded by Robert Reif and Vincent Povrik.
I do not get any errors whatsoever; one of the biggest problems before was
supposedly that once a program registers a hotkey, if another program were to
attempt to register it, an x error would return and crash x. However, I tested
this with the two apps affected by this bug (click on the appdb link) and when
trying to re-register hotkeys between the two, the program simply would not
allow it, no crashing, nothing, it worked beautifully.
Please test this, it'd be real nice to get this in git asap.

It seemed in both your comments #2 and #7 you were blaming a bad or
misconfigured fontforge. That is why I asked you if you looked. What I'm
thinking now is the SuSE Wine RPM was built correctly, and his compiled copy is
missing the wine fonts. I do not agree that his SuSE RPM is at fault because my
build work the same, and so does two other people. Regardless of what he is
doing, the preference of Marlett is fairly unfriendly to the user in this
situation. That is why I mentioned the order. It might need to be looked at
because there are fonts on his system that do work.

Jesse, did you even look at the screen shots? The first screen shot, with the
bad font problem, was taken with Wine from the Suse rpm. The second screenshot,
with a readable font (albeit small), was taken with Wine from compiled Git. I
didn't say it was a problem with the distro. It's a problem with the Suse Wine rpm.

James did you even look at the screen shots? He correctly compiled wine with
working fonts. The weird symbols he is talking about in the first screenshot is
the from the Marlett font that Wine built. The second screen shot is a font from
the Bitstream Vera font, which is on practically every distro. I was able to
overrride Marlett with Vera two ways, by copying it into the \windows\fonts
folder or by removing all wine built fonts.
To get a more readable font instead of Vera, don't copy Vera in to the
\windows\fonts folder, and just remove Marlett from /usr/share/wine/fonts,
keeping the rest intact. I think it chooses the System font then...
What the problem is here is Wine's preference of Marlett, which cannot display
the correct characters. The order goes something like this:
1. Choose a font based on registry keys (there are none by default)
2. Choose a font from \windows\fonts (there are none installed here by default)
3. Choose a font from /usr/share/wine/fonts (prefers marlett)
4. Choose a font from based X font paths (varies according to settings)
This is not simply a distro problem.

Sorry for my incompetence, but please calm down. I've not reopened this report
and I do nor want any wonders from you. I have no other fonts, the prepackaged
wine.rpm of SuSE 10.1 has only this strange font (not readable), the self
compiled with additional fonts still has hard to read fonts. IMO this is not
only a problem of the users config, there is no way that a dummy user can
understand this cryptic fixme-message. How can a user relize which font the
programm needs? There should be a more informative message for users without
wine or compile knowledge, this would improve the usability.

Apparently the AC_CHECK_LIB call for FT_Init_FreeType is failing
As you can see: Not only do I have FreeType2 (which seems to work fine
compiling every other app that needs it), I even upgraded from the latest CVS to
see if it corrected the problem. It didn't.
I know almost nothing of autotools/autoconf. Is this a bug in the 64-bit
AC_CHECK_LIB, or could there something wrong with the parameters being passed to
it that would still work on 32-bit?
Here's how the output of freetype-config --cflags and --lib varies between my
32-bit chroot and my 64-bit environments:
32-bit:
------------
evil@pluto:~$ freetype-config --cflags
-I/usr/include/freetype2
evil@pluto:~$ freetype-config --libs
-lfreetype -lz
64-bit:
-----------
evil@pluto:~$ freetype-config --cflags
-I/usr/local/include/freetype2 -I/usr/local/include
evil@pluto:~$ freetype-config --libs
-L/usr/local/lib -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/local/lib -lfreetype -lz
I'm wondering if all that extra stuff in the libs variable is messing with
AC_CHECK_LIB's results. I tried to override the libraries myself, but I have
another problem in that whenever I make changes to configure.ac and run
"autoconf configure.ac > configure", I get a lot of SED errors like this:
...
config.status: creating dlls/ws2_32/tests/Makefile
sed: file ./confstattYvqXN/subs-4.sed line 14: unterminated `s' command
config.status: creating dlls/wsock32/Makefile
sed: file ./confstattYvqXN/subs-4.sed line 14: unterminated `s' command
...
I'm guessing there's a parameter that I'm unaware of that I need to be using on
the autoconf command.

This is another invaild report where the proper libs and packages aren't
installed before compiling wine, so the fonts are messed up.
> The fixme still appears, maybe there could be a better notification for users
with bad configured font settings or a message which font is missing
./configure --verbose
will tell you what packages you're missing. Wine can only work with the fonts
you have installed on your system, so if you want a better font, install more fonts.

If you apply the patch for GetCurrentHwProfileA
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4468), Full Tilt Poker can be made to
work fine in 0.9.20 and earlier Wine.
The patch was sent to wine-patches but never committed or commented on, and is
here: http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-August/029470.html
I've ended up just putting it into my packages now.
However, in 0.9.21, full tilt poker now crashes after login.

retestet with newest dev-version from git:
With installed FontForge, wine and fontmodules configure and compile without
problems (only some ignoreable messages like "Missing glyph for char 0xyz"
appeared).
Now I can see a valid font, but it seems that this is a non fitting
one, 'cause it looks like the wrong font (to small and really hard to read).
The fixme still appears, maybe there could be a better notification for users
with bad configured font settings or a message which font is missing (see the

Invalid. Wine doesn't ship with mfc42.dll, so you must have copied a native
version from somewhere, and the version you copied does not have the function
that's being called. I just tried the app with mfc42.dll from dlldump, and it
worked fine.

Guys, i have a problem in directsound; i have some sound in certains
applications, but others i have no sound. (i.e. Counter Strike works great, but
only wave sound (i think that's wave sound) plays; mp3 or other formats doesn't.)
so, i'm encouraged to run winecfg an set up the audio, as the stacktrace said.
But when i click over Audio tab, i have an error. I saw it works on Ubuntu (the
audio Tab), but unfortunely i haven't tested yet; on my Slackware i have that
"boom", and i don't know why.
I will try to attach 2 stacktraces, and i hope that someone can understand what
happens.

I hope I have the fonts property configured but I have the same problem when I'm
using a clean ~/.wine without any extra fonts installed. The first font
WineEngCreateFontInstance chooses is Marlett and the text is unreadable. If I
install more fonts another font is chosen so the text becomes readable.
The application uses "MS Sans Serif" which is built by wine but it asks for
charset=SHIFTJIS_CHARSET (128) so maybe that's why it doesn't work.

------- Additional Comments From saulius.krasuckas(a)elst.vtu.lt 2006-20-09 10:15 -------
As noone has given any advices, I gonna make some generic ones...
| Since then I have updated wine regularly but the DCOM98 wont install on them
| and the game installer didnt work without it.
Hmm, first of all DCOM98 installer should work, I've updated instructions on
this topic recently:
[1] http://wiki.winehq.org/NativeDcom
| I've tried at least wine versions 0.9.16 to 0.9.21 and the game doesnt work
| with them.
| Last time the game worked was with (if I recall this right, will test if need
| be) wine v.0.9.10 and DCOM98 installed.
Then if the game still doesn't work with native ole32,oleaut32,rpcrt4 and if you
are able to compile Wine by yourself, you should do some regression testing
between wine-0.9.10 and perhaps wine-0.9.16:
git bisect start
git bisect bad wine-0.9.16
git bisect good wine-0.9.10
When you find offending patch, inform us about it in this report, please.
Detailed instructions are available at our wiki page about Git:

I've noticed a problem when playing poker with PokerStars.
This has previously worked like a dream but has started just grabbing the mouse
and preventing it being moved. I can Alt-Tab to another window and the mouse
is fine again, but once I got back to the poker table it is grabbed and held.

for you, then it's your distro that's broke.

Someone download game run it on 0.9.18 then run it on 0.9.20 and see the car has
been kinda choped into bits.
There are other faults as well. I kinda class this as the most critical next
most critical is fixing the transpant texts. At that the game become playable.

Can anyone tell me if there is ANY difference in the way WINE works on different
distros? A member of the Soldat forums has posted screenshots of his working
Soldat in Fedora 5, using Wine 0.9.20 (and he's upgraded to 21 without problems).
http://www.soldatforums.com/index.php?topic=8.msg63075#msg63075
But how is it that the people using Ubuntu have the mouse problem? Even using
GIT (incase something happened during packaging) it appears. Can someone explain
that?

1. Change you behavior! You' re quite inpolite! Things can be said in
other words without pissing one off!
2. Back to the problem: I did the retestsing because of changes in
the MSI. The result ist quite similar. However, I cannot
distinguish any changes than before before the text is not 1:1
equal, but the order has changed. For me, Wine is a black box.
3. The changes for each version of Wine could be documented better.
Then unnecessary retests could be avoided.
4. I re-checked only the apps that had installation problems.
5. Some bugs haven't been change for a long time. Many of them were
closed fixed or orphan. Thought, that an updated info would be
better. The flow of the output in the report looked better than
before. So I posted an updated console log.

Summary: wincfg Applications tab gui layout is misleading
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.15.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Component: wine-tools
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jrodman(a)winebugzilla.spamportal.net
Brief:
When using the winecfg application, the Applications Settings tab is somewhat
misleading in that it contains two controls, suggesting a relationship between
these two controls which is special.
As a remedy, I recommend moving the Windows Version control out of the
Applications tab.
Detail:
More clearly, on this tab there are two items. First there is an applications
settings list, which allows one to select Default Settings, or an alternately
added Application, and buttons to manage the applications which are added to
this list. Secondly, there is a "combo box" labelled Windows Version, which
allows the user to select values such as Windows 2000, Windows ME, etc. The
implication of this second control matches the documentation: it informs which
of the many subtly different windows API implementations to conform to.
However, the implication of the first control is that it enables one to add
applications which will be handled as if they were running under alternate
versions of Windows. Because these two controls are presented on a single
tab, an implied relationship is created suggesting that this is the only
Application-specific settable value. It is quite possible that the
documentation for this control explains it fully and completely (I haven't
checked), but the barrier to understanding for me was so high, that I began to
go look for command line options to pass to wine to set other values that I
wished set in an application specific manner.
I believe the usability of winecfg would be improved without usability
regressions (save the transition) if the Windows Version selector was placed
in another tab, perhaps a new one. For the sake of argument, I believe a
System & Libraries tab with two enclosed discrete boxes for the two types
would not have cognitive confusion, although it might be too crowded.

BTW, Saulius, if the temp folder, "/tmp/ksocket-$USER" I believe, exists, then
it won't crash anyway. Some people have never run KDE, but they have arts
installed so they crash.

arts patch from Patrick Volkerding
Looks like good old Pat Volkerding has the same idea as I:
Tue Sep 19 18:13:09 CDT 2006
l/arts-1.5.4-i486-2.tgz: Patched an annoying bug where audio programs such
as ogg123 would not work unless KDE had been run first.
So I have attached the patch for anyone to try. I haven't tried it myself
because I have removed arts from my system completely ;) If this is something
we can resolve with arts or in the distro packaging, can we please close this
bug ? :)

Summary: CListCtrl: Control in the first column does not resize

In my application, I have a List Control. It is derived from CListCtrl, and
the columns are added at run time to the list using the function InsertColumn()
The first column has a combo control and is inserted as:
InsertColumn(nPos++, CBO_CTRL,
ARRAY_KEY,
pParent, "Array", LVCFMT_LEFT,
nWidth = rect.Width() * 0.05f);
Under Wine, when the column is resized, the control does not get resized.

regression may be considered as a rewrite of the HTML stuff and it was known
that there will be some regressions... Also it would be great if you could
