Your wine install is messed up, and you should reinstall.
> err:module:import_dll Loading library MSVCR71.dll (which is needed by
L"C:\\windows\\temp\\msid972.tmp") failed (error c0000020).
This is inconsequential to the install.
> err:module:import_dll Library MFC42.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\MediaComplete\\MediaShout 3 EV\\TXClasses100.dll") not found
Wine does not provide mfc42.dll; you need to find a copy of it and put it in
windows\system32.
> First, the installer stays running in my window list.
It's not the installer, but IDriver.exe, which a simple ps would show you. This
is the COM gateway installshield uses. If you want a bug about this not
closing, you need to file a new bug; it's either a problem with ole or kernel32.
The installer installs all files, and the app runs assuming you provide a copy
of mfc42.dll. Re-marking fixed.

Many have tried iTunes 7.0 with Wine 0.9.20 (me under Suse Linux 10.0 x86_64).
Result:
- Installation works. You have to run the installation twice: First for
QuickTime, then for iTunes.
- Running doesn't work. See comments in:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=5774
I recommend to leave this bug until the installation works properly and without
workarounds.

The bug reporter talked with me on irc: This was with the winehq 0.9.20 and
0.9.21 package for Ubuntu Dapper and he also had no success with a self compiled
version. Gentle on irc also tried this and the winehq package failed for him but
his self compiled version worked. This also works on current git for me. It
seems the winehq deb-packages are somehow broken.

Summary: wine direct draw/memory allocation issue with PI game
Victoria
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.20.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: villemal(a)paju.oulu.fi
The bug concerns wine direct draw or memory allocation. See attached debug logs
for details. What happens is that when one tries to launch the game it crashes
during graphics initialization.
The bug is reproducible. I have 'reports' from other players that the game
doesnt work with several latest wine versions. I've tried at least wine
versions 0.9.16 to 0.9.21 and the game doesnt work with them.
Last time the game worked was with (if I recall this right, will test if need
be) wine v.0.9.10 and DCOM98 installed. Since then I have updated wine
regularly but the DCOM98 wont install on them and the game installer didnt work
without it.
My current setup is: Gentoo linux version 2006.1, wine v.0.9.21. Winecfg uses
default settings except for os which is set to 98 and sound uses emulation and
OSS. HW is AMD64, gfx card is integrated nvidia 6150. X is xorg-x11 v7.0.
I tried using the game with and without winetools too but it didnt help at all.
Tried remove and reinstall wine (and winetools) but I still get same results.
Wine allways installs just fine, it has allways been the easiest part. Getting
anything else working with wine is another matter.

Hi James. Indeed, the -1603 error is gone, and the installer finishes, but
there are still a few problems. First, the installer stays running in my window
list. Second and more importantly, trying to run the application gives a lot of
missing DLLs.
If the native msvcr71.dll is given for the installer (because it complains about
it missing), then the -1603 error comes back.

There are actualy two graphic issues in this game.
1. I get whole white screen instead of briefings between missions, splash
screens and other static screens. In every ingame menu the menu is drawn, but
the bacground is blinking white instead of solid black.
2. During gameplay the game changes gamma for 1-2 sec. and changes back to
normal. It happens more often when a "laser shot" is preformed :). The collors
of the game then changes, depending on what color the laser was. Tested in
0.9.21. Demos can be downloaded from
http://www.sigma-team.net/AlienShooterDemo.exe and
http://www.reflexive.com/index.php?PAGE=Download_Landing&AID=134 The seccond
one requires imagehlp.dll override.

The game runs horribly slow for me too.

Well...
If you don't have pbuffer support, offscreen rendering is not going to work one
way or the other. So, I'm not sure it matters whether the surface is flipped or
not - I guess it depends on which breaks more apps. I see no reason to flip
anything in that case, but I didn't mean to change existing behavior.
If you think the skybox isn't using offscreen rendering, and is still getting
reversed incorrectly, then that would be a bug.
I'd recommend trying what happens on a card with pbuffer support.

So this issue really isn't fixed yet. Which is the offscreen version? The upside
down case? The behavoir changes some when vertex shaders are enabled as both
versions are visible on screen. I need to put up those screen shots again.

You don't have support for pbuffers.
The reason for the errors is lack of proper extensions detection for pbuffers.
Anyway, I'm about to post a large cleanup patch on wine-devel for testing, which
should:
- fix this "problem" - i.e. revert unintended behavioral change
- add proper extension detection for pbuffers
- significantly clean up lots of ActiveRender code (cleanup v 2)
- not break anything else

This patch should be a noop cleanup.
Apparently it wasn't, which I don't like.
What I think caused this issue was that the render flip was moved from the
common codepath into onscreen/offscreen cases. However, the offscreen case is
always disabled at the moment. Please try to set pbuffer_support=true in
device.c, and let me know if it reverts back to the "correct," or upside-down
mode :)

Please try setting pbuffer_support=TRUE in device.c, and let me know if it fixes
the problem. The renderUpsideDown flip is now applied separately in the
offscreen and onscreen case (instead of always in the common path). However,
offscreen case is disabled completely if pbuffer_support = false. One could
argue this is the correct approach - either offscreen works completely, or not
at all.

Actually i tested the german demo
(http://www.gamershell.com/download_2674.shtml) a few days ago, and noticed
some weird things:
the cursor in the menu is a white square instead of a mouse. If you look under
"Allgemein" (general) you see an option to disable hardware mouse cursor. I did,
and after that the cursor was visible. Could you try if that helps for you too?
Might help to track down the bug.
Unfortunately this game runs horribly slow on my computer. Do you have same issue?
(BTW just do unzip nmldemo.exe, and then run wine NML.EXE)

On further inspection, the problem might not be in SHBrowseForFolder, though
it's possible. The installer is modifying the browse dialog by creating the
edit control and adding it to the dialog. There's probably some message that
we're not passing correctly from either the edit control or the browse dialog.

Dupe. Wine no longer support the old threading style. You need nptl/tls and you
can upgrade to slack 10.2 to get it officially (for libc built with nptl). You
also need kernel 2.6 to run from the testing series, and the 2.6 headers to
build wine correctly.

Not fixed with Wine 0.9.21 (which is the latest version I can try out due to
Ubuntu x86_64 missing some 32bit devel libraries necessary to build a useful wine).
I am running setup.exe, and it bombs out with error code "-1603" - see the
attached screenshot (which was made with 0.9.20 - but it looks exactly the same
with 0.9.21 for me).
So either my setup is completely screwed or I'm tripping over something very
exotic, so it seems.
Anybody an idea what the error code 1603 is supposed to say?

I just tried to change the background picture. Blobby Volley uses "bvbg.bmp" in
it's directory, if existing, as game background instead of the default picture
(rendered beach), see "Instructions.txt". I used Image Magick's convert program
to create such a file (convert whatever.png -scale 800x600 bvbg.bmp) and this
picture was shown correctly in the game. (The blobs still were not, as was to be
expected)
I hope this helps to narrow down the bug.
I *guess* it has to do with parsing the images, which are packaged with BV,
thinking of e.g. a rarely used or compressed bmp subtype. This is, if there is
an API/wine call like LoadBitmap(..) or LoadTexture(..) or so.

Summary: Diamond Mind Baseball used to work now does not
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.20.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: stevefeinstein(a)yahoo.com
I use Ubunutu Dapper. Under Ubuntu Breezy, Diamond Mind Baseball worked without
problems. Dapper uses Wine 0.9.9. Under this version, one of the display
controls (the one showing Replay) - which I think may be a listbox - is not
showing all text, only some of it and is difficult to read.
I installed both version 0.9.20 and 0.9.21 to see if the problem was fixed. The
problem is now worse. Diamond Mind Baseball loads information from files in a
folder called rptdes. You can see if it was successful by going to
Reports->Standard and seeing if anything is in the listbox.
Diamond Mind also uses those files (or similar ones in another folder - not
sure) to populate the playing screen. So now because the files are not getting
loaded, I get the message "Error loading the report design information". And
then the program crashes.
I installed Crossover Office. It appears to use Wine 20050830. Diamond Mind
Baseball works fine under this version.
So the error was introduced between 20050830 and 0.9.9 and a worse error was
introduced between 0.9.9 and 0.9.20.

I did try 0.9.21 (winegit from a day or so ago) with native DLLs. It works much
better than in 0.9.20, however, it runs into the problem below and then it
doesn't work after that (no input works, except close), plus it never populates
the cache listing area with the default database (which has 41 caches in it).
fixme:shell:MLLoadLibraryW (L"shdoclc.dll",0xcc0000,2) semi-stub!
If I use SHLWAPI.DLL natively, I just get a crash (wine crash).
Everything was a fresh install. GSAK and .wine directory. It still doesn't
work with non-native DLLs. Same issue.

I have tried reinstalling (removing my .wine) several times with various version
of wine past 0.9.16 including a few versions of crossover wine (based on 0.9.19
and I believe the later one is based on 0.9.20). Same result as the above. I
did try it with the native DLL SHDOCVW.DLL a few times (only with SHLWAPI.DLL
once), to the effect that it eventually popped up the caches window, but never
populated it with anything. I tried to get some output from that to see why it
was getting hung up, but when I used the same debug switches, I no longer saw
the "crash" (wine didn't crash before, but the application looked like it
crashed which is what I meant in my previous posts) but instead it appeared to
be in some sort of sleep loop. I'll have to post a log of that when I get it
recompiled with the latest code (I stored some of the logs, but they were just
HUGE and I had to get rid of them). I even tried putting in stubs for the
interface that was missing (IPerPropertyBrowsing as it turns out) and I got as
far as the SHDOCVW.DLL, but no further. I'll try again with the native .DLLs
and see if I can post my logs. It just seemed, at the time, with all the shell
FIXMEs that appeared I wasn't going to have much luck getting past that screen.
And yes, that link will point you to an older version of the app. You can also
download it from www.gsak.net (that is the version I'm using 6.6.3). I have
tried 6.6.1, and gotten the same result. There is another forum of users (most
of whom haven't tried as much as I have to push past 0.9.16) that are having the
same problem there. For now I let them know they should probably stick with
0.9.16 until a patch or workaround can be found.
I'd really like to get this working with version 0.9.21 because it appears that
Wine has fixed a "bug" I was having with wcmd before which would make it much
easier to use and I could at least put it in the "bronze" column.

Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.liveperson.com/downloads/lp/lpsetup.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-richedit
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: xerox_xerox2000(a)yahoo.co.uk
Due to other bug, you have to run this by:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="shdocvw,shlwapi=n" wine hc.exe
It then crashes with the attached log. It comes up fine using native riched20.

This bug boils now down to a bug in shdocvw. Using native shdocvw and shlwapi it
crashes in riched20. if riched20 is set to native as well, the login window
comes up fine. I'll open a new bug for the richedit problem (one bug per bug
report, right?)

Hi, this is one example of games that stopped working for me in wine-0.9.21. If
i have time i'll do a regression test to track down the patch that broke it ,
but it must be related to the opengl-->x11drv move.

and then a crash. I have an ATI-Radeon 9600 with livna drivers from Fedora extra's

Gentoo bug #147533 refers (see URL.)
If dlls/oleaut32/tests/vartest.c is compiled under GCC 4.1.1 with
"-finline-functions" (e.g. using -O3 or -Os optimisation), the cc1 process will
consume all of the available memory. Other versions of GCC may also be affected.
The workaround is to use -O2 or less, or append "-fno-inline-functions" to CFLAGS.

Are you sure this is the patch that caused the regression? I just changed my
master branch to the patch right before this, and the behavior is the same for
both points. I can click any other directory and it will install into that
directory, but if I delete 'Activision' from the path and replace it with
something else, 'Activion' remains the install directory.

I doubt it, because as far as I know this bug doesn't appear when you are using
kde, only if you have kde (or arts) installed but are in some other window
manager (gnome for me). So removing arts support would stop kde users from using
the (working) arts backend.

Does 'xrandr' outputs the mode(s) game wants?
Try virtual desktop mode (configured via winecfg).

You have to run the installer with setup.exe. It doesn't work when using
msiexec in Windows either. Make sure to rm -rf .wine, update to latest Wine,
and run wine setup.exe. Marking fixed as it works now and all the files are
correctly installed.

Kain, please read all the posts. Your comment clearly has absolutely nothing to
do with the source of the problem. Nor it's resolution.
Author, please verify that this is fixed in 0.9.21

I think this is a duplicate bug of 5159, but unless the author posts back with
what their sound setting in winecfg is...we won't know for sure.

Let me ask this then, because I ONLY experienced the problem when I switched the
sound driver to ALSA in winecfg. Can you play Half-life (and mods like this one)
with ALSA setting in Winecfg?

With 0.9.21, it now appears to work pretty reliably using OpenGL. Haven't had
it fail yet. Perhaps related to the OpenGL restructurings; good job. No
improvement in DirectX, though.

You are correct that WaitForVerticalBlank doesn't have anything to do with it.
Another thing related to cutscenes when they run poorly is the audio driver's
performance or threading issues.

So the real bug is that mail notification from AppDB doesn't have the apps name
filled in. It should possibly also contain a link to the apps page.
Perhaps we also should enter some reasonable template with the notice that it's
the predefined non-edited response, instead of something that needs replacing
anyway by the admin.
