Usually in /usr/share/wine/fonts. Note, I'm updating this bug to clarify this is the /older/ crash. This has to be especially true for the original reporter since he reported it far before the ddraw rewrite. This crash only shows up since 0.9.10 however. Also, this has nothing to do with fontforge, freetype, etc (proved with help from Saulius). And the extra 4-bytes patch from Stefan does nothing with or without. You can remove sserife.fon in older versions and these screens will not crash. Alternative solution, run with DirectDrawRenderer = opengl. I tried versions 0.9.15, 0.9.14, 0.9.12, 0.9.11, and 0.9.8 (all from snapshot.debian.net) and they all pagefaulted. This went away when I updated to 0.9.18, so I guess it's fixed already. I am now running the binary package distributed by winehq. The second bug is also a pagefault, but at a different location in memory suggesting it is a separate issue: ... Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x0129c000 in 32-bit code (0x003e0494). ... This one went away after I copied over the windows/fonts directory from a windows 95 install. In fact, there was a Linux binary... silly me. However, there is a more significant problems that seems to be universal. Many DirectDraw games will now display a black screen instead of the original picture. It works with older version until 0.9.15. The affected program included azutama (http://egs.cug.net/circle/azutama.html), kioh, and others. azutama should be a good game for debugging this problem since that game works for very early version as well (I think it was version 2005 or 2004). But now, it just gives black screen. You could try setting "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D" to "gdi". If the program requests 3D (as it appears to based on the log, although I'm not sure I know how to read that properly), the new ddraw will use the opengl backend, which isn't complete. This bug should have been marked as resolved a while back. It's been a non-issue since about version 13. No library overrides are presently required other than 'usp10.dll' which addresses a different issue. As far as I know there is only one open bug that relates to PAF 5.2. And that's an issue with PAF and Wine not talking to each other about registry data updates. Since Wine will not recognize my login information anymore I can't fix it. Would you please post for me? RHETORICAL QUESTIONS: Why does every web site insist on a user id and password which seem to be of absolutely no value to anyone on the face of the earth???? Once a potential user has jumped through the appropriate hoops to satisfy the site why the &^%# can't it remember a user's login data???? I wrote it down first then entered the data into the site so I know it's a Wine side issue!

I do not get the texture limitation problem mentioned above. I have a GeForce 6600GT 256MB, and the game only requires GeForce 2 or 3. When I attempt to play a game (that is, the main menu and such work), the game window resizes from full-screen to an unmanaged window covering most of the screen. Then, the progress bar goes for some time and stops (it is not possible to see whether it reaches 100%). The game hangs at this posotion. One thing to note is this: 000d:Call kernel32.CreateFileA(0033820c "Data11.cab",80000000,00000005,00000000,00000003,00000000,00000000) ret=7edaaa28 These lines will continue in a loop once the error occurs. The very first cab file the setup will extract will show the same two lines except that the full path of the cab file will be used like so; 000d:Call kernel32.CreateFileA(0034f4b8 "Z:\\full\\path\\to\\Data1.cab",80000000,00000005,00000000,00000003,00000000,00000000) ret=7edaaa28 I think this could be part of the problem. This would explain why placing every cab file the installer needed in the same directory and running the setup in that same directory will work. Since you would be in the directory with all cab files, "Data11.cab" and so on would always be found. This is also true for Half-Life 2 and other games that contain multiple cab files and install discs. There's still the issue of games/software with cab files in multiple directories or install discs. Most of the game works. However, when I am at the world map screen and a "map message" dialog comes up, the screen goes black. I noticed on the console the following messages: fixme:ddraw:Main_DirectDraw_CreateSurface failed surface creation with code 0x80070057 err:ddraw:create_dib CreateDIBSection failed! I think this may be due to the fact that the map message is a .tga file with transparency (which is not handled in wine?). And wine cannot draw this on screen. This only happens when such an event happens. I must add before this exception, there are a number of errors on the console: err:ddraw:set_render_state Unhandled texture min 6 ! err:ddraw:set_render_state Unhandled texture mag 6 ! ( a long list of this) But the errors just mentioned does not stop the game (I can still play in the game) Audio is ALSA driver with full accelleration. (as a side note: Most of the dialog buttons and texts in the game also don't appear in the game - but I think this is not related ??) I am running the game with DirectX (in game option) and 1024 x 768 and winecfg is set at windows98 for this game (to work). Hope this helps someone and let me know if you like me to try something with this application. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: the.weird(a)gmail.com Dreamfall: The Longest Journey 2 crashes on game startup with a "TLJ2 Crashed" dialog. It initially complained of missing d3dx9_27.dll and refused to start at all, but copying this file over to /system32 and attempting to run the game gives me a "TLJ2 Crashed" message. I noticed there wasn't a d3d9.dll in Wine's /system32, so i copied that and d3d8thk.dll (required import by d3d9.dll) and tried running again with similar results.
