Summary: Arcview 9.1 trial installer multiple failures
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.esri.com/arcview
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-msi
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
A free trial version of Arcview 9.1 is available on request,
but you have to wait a couple weeks for them to mail
you the cd-rom.
The installer runs to completion, but the result is not happy.
Before starting the installer, you should install the Visual C++ 6
runtimes, and set the registry key to indicate that IE 6 is installed
(see http://kegel.com/wine/fakeie.sh.txt).
A few highlights from the log:
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42u.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program
Files\\ArcGIS\\Bin\\afui.dll") not found
wine: Call from 0x7ee9db60 to unimplemented function
atl.dll.AtlModuleAddCreateWndData, aborting
Could not load 'KEYBOARD.DLL' required by 'UNWISE', error=2
It dumps a lot of files into c:\, and it dumps a lot of files into
c:\Progra~1 !
There's plenty to keep somebody busy here for a week, I bet.

I haven't used MATLAB4 for a long time, now I checked this bug, and it seems
that it has been fixed. MATLAB4 works fine with Wine 0.9.18.

Works now with wine 0.9.18
Now installs out-of-the box (i.e. on a fresh install of wine) with no need to
configure a different windows version. Furthermore now works with OS set to e.g.
win XP as well.
So for me it is fixed. (although I cannot pin it to a specific release)
I don't have the privileges to mark it as fixed though...

Summary: Setup asks for PidGen.dll when verifying the product
key.
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P4
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: spencercw(a)googlemail.com
In Age of Mythology, and possibly other programs, the setup program says it
needs PidGen.dll to verify the product key. This can be fixed by copying
mfc42.dll from C:\WINDOWS\system32\ on a Windows system to
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/, but a built-in solution would be better.

You need to have the SystemDrive variable set to "C:" to get past this exception.

Ignore the official site, and grab the download straight from:
http://download.esd.licensetech.com/Microsoft/DMMSO12B/PRO/AKAMAIFILES/OPPL…
as it will crash before you need the license key anyway.
Copy gdiplus.dll to windows/system32 before running.

WINEDEBUG=+msi dump
I tried to install with CVS from July 28, 2006. The installer loops through the
installation of quicktime over and over as previously stated. There are several
ole errors, and advapi errors in addition to the msi errors and when the about
itunes page comes up, no text is displayed on the screen. I finally killed the
application after watching it loop 4 times.

Hi more news.
I got now behind the loading screen, and was for 2-3 seconds ingame!
All I had do to was simply to select the 2nd Porsche Cayman, everything else
was default.
Before it crashed it displays 20times this message in the console:
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DQueryImpl_GetData (0x27f5808) : stub
The number in the braces varies.

No its crashing still. It appears to not be able to install due to permisions to
the commons folder under Program files Commons.
IKernel.exe could not be copied to 'c:\Program Files\Common\
Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32'
Make sure that you have the appropriate priveleges to copy files to this folder.
I have the proper permissions! I've tried a backtrace and I didn't capture any
backtrace information at all.

So, there are two remaining problems when starting this game:
* If Wine is set up to let the window manager control applications, Heroes V
does not appear (it shows a black screen for some time, then keeps running
with wininet errors, which are probably not related to the problem. However,
this seems to indicate that the game is still running, but does not display
anything
* It crashes when displaying intro films. In the full game, the game can play
the 'real' intro film without crashing, which can be accomplished by removing
the two logo films from an .xml file (see AppDB).

Heh. You're installing the JRE this time, not the JDK, that's why.
I was installing the JDK from the URL given above,
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
The behavior is the same with either JDK 1.5 update 6 or 7. md5sums:
d684c84a746da6139170437d4dc638cc jdk-1_5_0_06-windows-i586-p.exe
39be9eb7243160b72ac7a0da7ea13cf0 jdk-1_5_0_07-windows-i586-p.exe
The problem happens only if you check the
"install public JRE" box in the JDK installer.
And, as you reported in comment 6, sometimes the installer
reports success even though you still see a cabinet err and an msi
'Execution halted' err.
This behavior is unchanged with today's wine from git.
Thus the installer is probably not operating properly.
I have not yet checked to see which fails it fails to install...

Hi thx for response.
I play Dark Age of Camelot from 4 year and not use demo o trial
account but regular account.
A brief spiegation for this problem.
Case 1
New Installation
In this case is required double updating.
First step
- only file camelot.exe, updating.dat, game.dll and this phases work very well.
Second step
- check all file installed on pc before second updating (300/400MB or 2GB c.ca
in case of last expansion Darkness Rising) and this updating not work. After
finish check file appears at video mini popup and in this popup is write:
Error 308
Impossible to complete software updating.
Retry to connect in few minutes.
If this test failed check your network connection.
Case 2
Running client patched in other method, eg: from windows.
In this case is necessary only check for file installed before login windows
running but at finish check appears popup windows.
Error 308
Impossible to complete software updating.
Retry to connect in few minutes.
If this test failed check your network connection.
Attention.
Error 308 not is wine error but, i suppose, Mythic Entertainment error.
Look this link for details:
http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/article.php?id=271
I attempting to reboting wine (wineboot) and rename file but not solving
problem.
I not programming in C but suppose problem in wininet.dll and attempting to
debug but not redirect output in any file.
EG: WINEDEBUG="+wininet" wine camelot.exe 2&>1 > /home/my_user/winedaoc.log
not work and debug information appears in console.
Thx a lot for help.

Working patch for Wine 0.9.18
With Wine 0.9.18, WoW does not require a special patch to fix the targetting of
NPC characters.
However, nVidia users still need a patch because of these crashes. The
attached patch is a modification of the 0.9.16 patch posted earlier, but with
the mmap stuff removed. This patch stops WoW from crashing on startup with the
'Enable all shader effects' option, and when entering a building with the
minimap on.

My apologies for the false alarm. I guess trying to reinstall before asking

I'm marking this as fixed because the ole issue you saw was fixed. Please open
another bug for the black screen issue under the component "wine-shdocvw".

My patch just made it into git/cvs and will enable the shaders to compile
correctly, but there are still the following problems with the game:
- Moving the mouse at all before the Start button appears will freeze and crash
the game
- We don't support multiple render targets yet, so much of the screen is black
still becase we don't render the requested output. Henri Verbeet is working on
some cleanup in that part of the code, so we may support this soon.
- Sound is pretty choppy.
But, here's a screenshot with GLSL mode and the patch:

I've noticed that you submitted a patch mentioning Settlers 2. Will any

In continuum, which runs fine in fullscreen mode, fails to use it's windowed
component. If you don't have a virtual desktop it's running on, it doesn't show
any graphics, but it does have sounds, indicating it's connected. If it is in a
virtual desktop, it draws, but has an offset problem, causing it to be unusable.
This doesn't affect the fullscreen mode, which works fine.

Playing Alpha Centauri (the patched version, 4.0) on Wine 0.9.18 (it's new and
somehow not on the menu yet). The game appears to work as would be expected
except for the fact that it can't survive for more than about three second

It seems to install now with the latest version of wine, when it goes to the
Publishing Installer Information screen, you can move the screen out of the way
and it reveals a hidden screen which I think should be the active window, asking
you to choose which browser you want to associate java with, with a checkbox by
internet explorer, then after choosing that it seems to install, I don't know if
it will run though.

Actually, try this patch:
http://cmhousing.net/wine/shader_fix.diff.txt
It won't enable drawing of the extra render targets yet, but it will at least
let your pixel and vertex shaders compile, so you might at least get some
output. Henri Verbeet is sort of working on that issue right now.

Installed mIRC version 6.17 (the latest version) and it installs/runs just fine,
but when I run it in the console, the entire console fills up with the following
error. I've had some connection issues with the program, but I don't think it is
related to this. As far as I can tell, this doesn't have much of an effect of
the program running, though.

A few things to try:
Upgrade to 0.9.18 (or latest git)
Open "wine regedit" and add the following String key:
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Wine\Direct3D\UseGLSL = "enabled" (it is case
sensitive)
Try to launch again.
Please post a screenshot both before this change and afterwards (if it
launches). And, what video card & driver do you have?
Is there a demo available?

I just tested this again today, and while Wine no longer crashes, it doesn't
do the right thing yet either. The about screen comes up, but the window's
contents are entirely black, it seems they're drawn and then overdrawn for
some reason. If I move the window around I can briefly see some of the
contents (such as the "OK" button, which works if I click where it seems to
be).

Summary: udp traffic stop working after a time for dht/utorrent
and kademlia/emule
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: tazdev(a)punkass.com
After some times (from 30mins to several hours and even 1 or 2 days) , the udp
traffic for these applications aren't working anymore: with µtorrent
(http://www.utorrent.com/), the dht (the protocol using udp) doesnt work
anymore, the number of nodes connected reported starts decreasing until it
reaches zero and never increases again.
With emule (http://www.emule-project.net/) and kademlia it's the same problem,
kademlia (protocol using udp) gets disconnected after a while, and emule is
unable to reconnect to the network (stay in "trying" mode).
the output of netstat for that udp port is the folowing:
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
PID/Program name
udp 221064 0 0.0.0.0:10466 0.0.0.0:*
3281/wineserver
for the utorrent process the queue was around 1 mega
How to reproduce : for utorrent : install utorrent , launch it (make sure the
udp port is a reachable from internet) , the number of nodes (shown at the
bottom should start increasing, wait some times until it reaches zero, dht
doesnt work anymore (you can test it by adding a torrent, and modify the tracker
to something bogus, to force the use of dht, but the torrent won't start
downloading)
for emule : download it, install it, make sure udp port is reachable from
internet, if it's the first time you might need to connect to a regular server
first, then start downloading something, then go to the kademlia page and click
connect. now wait a certain amount of time (no downloads are required during
this) , until kad get disconnected (the top right arrow goes from green to red
in the bottom right corner of the screen) . you can click bootstrap or connect
from the kademlia page, it wont work anymore.

Here's a camera shot (some difficulty getting in-game shots to work...):
ftp://resnet.dnip.net/img_0223.jpg
Notice the mirror image across the y-axis. The top is the fake platform blitted
into the skybox (probably for distant visuals). This is without shader programs
being loaded. But with the hack soon to be attached, Battlefront will load
programs on DRI. It pretty much looks the same, but with the screen shifted
towards the lower right. Note, Roderick has a better version of the device
detection now. I can do more shots later when I get a chance to try those
modifications.

Wine needs to behave as close to Windows as possible, so if Windows has a bug,
Wine will probably need to duplicate it. Besides, this code relies on the
user having privileges to run sudo without a password, which few users have
(except on Ubuntu).

Oh, right, that was you. :-)
There are 3 places in wined3d/drawprim.c where it flips the MODELVIEW or
PROJECTION matrix when (This->renderState == TRUE). Try disabling each one of
those independently, and see which one fixes it (if any).
Also, humor me, and change the line in device.c which says "pbuffer_support ==
FALSE;" to TRUE instead, and see if that does anything (I doubt it, but it's
worth a try).
Is there a demo for this game?

Can you test with 0.9.18 and post a screenshot if it's still wrong?

Can you try this with 0.9.18 or later? My upside-down w/ shaders patch just
made it into the tree.

Confirming.
It stop to work between 0.9.15 and 0.9.16, so this is probably caused by the
DDraw rewrite.
Assigning to Stefan Dösinger, as I seem to recall he wanted these regressions
assigned to him.

So, printing works using the builtin notepad-application - I have no other app
to test right now. But as it sends postscript I think this should be okay.
I've to mention that the printed text doesn't look okay - the text is much too
big, so that only a few letters fit into a row - but at least the printer
doesn't print PS-source.

Demo has the same problem. Maybe a simple stub is sufficient
