I was waiting for saulius to comment, but as far as the hack goes, yes it does
fix Master of Orion 2 for me, but not Diablo/Starcraft because of the font
problem. I'll open a new bug if I can't resolve it.

Also, on CVS from 23-07 i still get the

How to produce such backtraces:
- start Warcraft Frozen Throne with winedbg instead of wine
you will get a console output like this:
...
2163 status = entry( peb );
Wine-dbg>
- enter "cont" in oder to continue starting warcraft 3
- join a game which is hosted by someone with closed ports
- change to console (e.g. with [alt]+[tab])
- press [str]+c
- you should get again:
Wine-dbg>
- type "info process", you should get something like this:
pid threads parent executable (all id:s are in hex)
00000013 12 0000000e 'war3.exe'
00000010 1 0000000e 'explorer.exe'
Wine-dbg>
- enter "attach 0x" plus the process id of war3.exe. In the given example you
would type: "attach 0x13"
you will get a output similar to this:
0xffffe40e: jmp 0xffffe403
Wine-dbg>
- type "info thread"
you should get the thread IDs of each thread like this:
00000013 (D) C:\Programme\Warcraft III\war3.exe
00000026 15 <==
00000023 0
00000021 0

0000001d 0
0000001c 15
00000019 15
00000017 0
00000016 1
00000014 0
00000010
00000011 0
-For each thread ID of the war3.exe process you type "bt 0x" + the ID of the
thread.
The command for the first thread of the example would look like this: "bt 0x26"
- save now the produced log.
- you may continue playing(= seeing the blocked interface) with "cont" if you
want.

Hi Dan,
when you look at the list of incomming mail's, then can you similar press any
letters (like "test"). Lotus Notes brings a popup windows on front with these
letters. If you then press Enter, Lotus Notes search the incomming mails list of
these letters.
This function works with every list (like the incomming mails list).
The problem is that Lotus Notes place the cursor after typing the first letter
before the letter and not after the letter (like "estt")
When I set the cursor by hand after writing the first letter after these letter
ist the rest fine.

To get this to run at all, you have to
copy in MFC40.dll. When I ran it today,
I got runtime error dialogs on the first run,
but the second run was clean.
Things seem better than last time I tried it; I can
at least click on "calculate performance".
But that gives me an unending series of
"Error Encountered: ERR=11 ERL=2534 ERR IN LIBRARY"
dialogs.

Also, I don't have a Domino server here; I can

I reproduced the bug with today's wine and Notes 6.5.4 demo.
I bet this is the same underlying cause as bug 2620;
maybe Notes is doing a "switch id" to yourself before
saving files, just to make sure it gets the permissions right.

Summary: Alt-tab broken on DirectDraw application
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC

Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

I did a cvs update yesterday (24-07-20036) and i find that i can't Alt-TAb
exit from my game (Diablo2) to get to the desktop(kde 3.5.3), it just flickers
and won't go away, it doesn't minimize and insists on being the top most
window.
Also, i get this mesage in the terminal:
err:ddraw:IDirectDrawSurfaceImpl_Flip Can't find a flip target
The game is using DirectDraw interface. Before (like 3 days ago) it was
working fine. I know the bug was introduced recently because i make a CVS
update about every 2 days. The CVS form today (25-07-2006) has the same
behavior.

Reconfirming with Wine 0.9.17, Ubuntu.
This bug is getting old. I also vote that it be increased in severity from normal to "major" or "critical"; it meets all three criterion of "crashes, loss of data, severe memory leak", but this happens gradually, so "major" may work. Other than this bug and superficial graphical issues that can be ignored, eMule would work fine.
The same bug also exists in Crossover Office 5 (so don't bother trying that). WineX appears to have the same problem with some networked game.

Ugly hack which makes Civ4 work with current Git/CVS
I don't know much about how this part of the code works, but this patch fixes
it and here's what happens w/o the patch:
Once you launch the game, it launches a small "Loading" type window which has a
background and a status bar. As soon as the app (or Wine?) passes the
WM_SETFONT message to this window, it crashes with the previously attached
debug output. With this patch, it happily gets past this point and the game is
somewhat playable (there are other d3d bugs, but with current git, that stuff
is unreachable).
If you need any more debug information, please let me know and I'll be happy to
provide it. Thanks!

Summary: Lotus Notes 7 trial complains "Invalid or nonexistant

Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/downloads/
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
After applying the two patches in bug 5736, Lotus Notes 7 trial
version installs and more or less runs. I was able to use
it to delete lots of email from an IMAP account.
(I'm not a Notes user, and I don't have Notes or Domino,
I'm using Notes client as a naive email client for testing.)
But only the first email in the inbox can be read;
all the others are displayed as red, and double
clicking on them yields the message
"Invalid or nonexistant document".
Syncing (with F9) doesn't help.
Oddly, if I then mark the one good message to be
deleted, and hit sync, the other two become readable.
(But I'm no Notes user, so maybe that's normal behavior...
guess I should test under Windows to rule out that obscene possibility.)

Aha. Thanks to Stefan Siebert, there's a fix coming.
The app exits silently because a DLL is missing, it seems.
Applying Stefan's patches (I think they're
http://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-July/028607.htmlhttp://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-July/028608.html )
and then doing a totally default install of Notes 7 trial
seems to cause the following files to be installed that
weren't installed even if the user picked EVERY install option
without Stefan's patches:
ncompact.exe ndefault.exe nfixup.exe nhkdaemn.dll nimui.dll nimuires.dll
nimuiu.dll nlsxbe.dll nmstrings.DLL notes.exe nsd.exe nstclient.dll
nstclientu.dll nxvcrd3.dll nxvcrd.dll nzlib.dll qnc.exe smarttags.dll
and now nlnotes.exe actually starts up and present a GUI!

dinput8 has been modified to handle these stuff. And you didn't have updated
class registrations in your registry.
wineprefixcreate imported those registrations that were added to wine.inf.
Please in the future before submitting bugs, try to test each app separately in
their own WINEPREFIX. Also please don't submit obvious duplicates.

is at http://svn.python.org/view/python/branches/release24-maint/Tools/msi/
and yes, those insane clowns wrote the MSI installer in Python.

This is a case of multithreaded direct3d, which is unsupported by wine. You
can try the hack at http://stud4.tuwien.ac.at/~e0526822/thread , it fixes the
issue for Empire Earth but it lowers the performance by 90% and apparently
breaks lighting.

I'd say this bug is invalid, for debugging using a virtual desktop is highly
recommended, with it the game won't be able to mess up the screen. Otherwise
if the game crashes unexpectadely than the actual crash is the real bug. If
the screen resolution is not restored properly after crashes then this is
incorrect cleanup, which should IMO be fixed in the X server or window
manager.

As Dan Kegel said, I have sent to wine-patch list a patch with a probable fix
for this bug.
Therefor, after studying the GDI API a little bit (from Huw Davies test and MSDN
documentation), I don't have a clear idea how to make a test for this bug.
As I thought, a initial approach would be manually create a DIB (dib.a) to use
with the SetDIBits function, get the resultant DDB and pass it to the GetDIBits
function, at this point, get the new resultant DIB (dib.b) and check if it
matches with that first one (dib.a) initialy passed for SetDIBits function, but
I didn't find sufficient information about DIB struture to manually create a
instance in the DIB_PAL_COLORS format or how to compare two instances of this type.
Assuming that the HBITMAP returned by LoadImage function is a DIB, this function
may be used to create a the necessary DIB for the approach above, but again I
didn't find how to get (or build) the bit array from HBITMAP to use with
SetDIBits function.
I don't even know if the data flow "DIB->SetDIBits->DDB->GetDIBits->DIB" and the
comparison of initial and resultant DIB are a apropriated approach to validate
the right behavior of SetDIBits funcion.
If someone have comments on this subject, please post here.

I've also tried the setup with wine 9.11 9.13 9.15 and 9.17 and the setup crashs

time for the keyboard to respond to the keys and switch to a termial run

Summary: Photoshop 7.0: alt modifier key doesn't work
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.17.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ahlgren(a)mit.edu
Problem:
When using Photoshop 7.0, and you use the alt key to temporarily change the
functionality of a tool, then nothing happens (the brush doesn't do anything
when you use it).
Example (Major):
Equip the stamp (clone) tool. In order to use the clone stamp, you need to
alt-click on a portion of the image to 'imprint' it on the stamp. As you hold
down alt, your cursor will turn into a crosshairs, but when you click nothing
will happen (if you try to draw with the clone tool without holding alt, instead
of working as it should, an error dialog will appear saying the imprinting
didn't work).
The clone-stamp tool is an extremely useful, bread-and-butter tool whose utility
rivals that of the paintbrush and eraser, and is commonly used for both art and
photo restoration. It is disappointingly broken under Wine.
Example (Minor):
Equip the paintbrush tool. A common thing artists want to do while painting is
to use the dropper tool. By holding down the alt key while using the paintbrush,
you turn your cursor into a eye dropper, and are able to change the current
foreground color by clicking. However with Wine, despite the cursor turning into
an eye dropper, alt-clicks don't change the foreground color and produce no results.
Misc.:
Made priority +2 due to this being a critical feature in Photoshop, which is in
turn an important reason people use Wine.
However, it should be noted that ctrl-alt-clicks work fine.
My system:
KDE 3.5.2 on Ubuntu.

As of Wine 0.9.17...
(Finally, Photoshop is usable again (has not been as of v0.9.15.)
I had this occur when I first installed wine 0.9.17, but after a few uses it
went away. However, it still recurs every once in a while.
Also, when Photoshop crashes, the entire Linux *system* crashes, and I can't
even open a terminal to kill the process, nor ctrl-alt-esc-click; I've never had
that happen before except when using Wine -- I think Wine is doing something it
really shouldn't with interrupt priority.
ADDITIONALLY, the right-click menus are broken. Specifically the one in the
layer palette that you get when you right-click a layer.
Someone please take on this old bug, and increase priority due to Photoshop
being a popular app.

This works but this is yet one more hack which doesn't fix anything.
The whole MOUSE_HACK thing is invalid. It doesn't account for lost warping
events. So touching it doesn't really make any sense at all. If anything it
needs to go away. Especially it make it impossible to fix 2) bellow.
Looking at several games that have mouse problems they all different:
1. Re-centering mouse in none DISCL_EXCLUSIVE mode.
2. Games re-centering mouse themselves:
a) center of the window
b) arbitrary position
c) immediately when they receive mouse move notification
d) once in X mseconds
1) Could be fixed really easily. But it will expose more problems with 2)
Currently we can handle only 2a and 2d. I sent patch to fix it for 2c
But because we do not detect 2) at all, we just lucky that things work the way
they do.

OK. Here's a bit more data.
I'm attaching a test program, hello.asm, which calls
int 21h, ah=36h, dl=0, and am posting an improved patch
which has a bit less magic in it, and comes closer to
the output from XP.
Here's a table of results on both XP and wine with (new)
and without my new patch (old):
OS size free int21/ah=36 results
XP 78GB 8GB ax 007F bx 0F69 cx 0200 dx 3D83 c:
XP 186GB 156GB ax 007F bx 3D83 cx 0200 dx 3D83 g:
old 101MB 88MB ax 0002 bx AAE6 cx 0400 dx C578
new 101MB 88MB ax 007F bx 0561 cx 0200 dx 0637
old 19GB 953MB ax 0020 bx 6F2E cx 1000 dx F61C
new 19GB 953MB ax 007F bx 3D83 cx 0200 dx 3D83
Why XP is only reporting 7f * f69 * 200 = 256MB for
the drive with 8GB free, I'll never know. Maybe there's
a lower limit on C: for some reason.
Anyway, my new patch faithfully reproduces the 3d83
cluster limit without kludges and without danger of overflow, I think.

/media/IWD_HOW/ is of course the Icewind Dale Add-On CD.
Removed .wine, as you said, installed the main program Icewind Dale via
winefile, after that tried to install the add-on also via winefile, without
luck. If I install both only via wine the add-on installation won't find the
main program, don't know why.
Then I started the Add-On setup with WINEDEBUG=+relay wine, but the debugging
output is huge as the universe, so I packed and attached it.
I've not installed any native dll's, only the main program.
And yes, I donno how to use the debugger :-)
Say me how I could help a little bit more!? I've started to read the wine
debugging tutorial, but it seems to be a little bit to complex, for debugging
this game, only :-)

Thomas please don't paste backtraces attach them instead.
winedbg will not give you anymore information then WINEDEBUG will. And it seems
you don't know how to use debugger anyway. So please don't use it to run programs.
Also remove ~/.wine dir and do not use any native dlls. It seems you are using a
bad mix of native and builtin ole dlls.

Interestingly now all fonts are broken: I just entered the game and checked the
console, and all the text was blocks. I don't know what changed, but this
worked 2 days ago, and I don't think that there were new git patches since
then. To be sure I will run a git bisect from wine-0.9.17 to the current
version. Maybe we have now a d3d bug on top of the other bug

------- Additional Comments From stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at 2006-23-07 14:44 -------
Sadly this is not a direct3d bug, otherwise I would know how to debug it.
My d3d-site investigation shows this: BF1942 draws the text with a user pointer
drawprim call, with one texture activated. The texture is a 128x128 DXTN5
texture, which is apparently supposed to hold the fonts. There is nothing
special about this surface d3d wise, it is just created, locked and unlocked,
then used for drawing.
I suspected a DXTn loading bug and wrote a small function which dumps the
unmodified surface content into a .dds file, which can be read by the dxtex.exe
utility in the DirectX sdk and quite a few Linux applications too(like
kuickshow). Interestingly Battlefield 1942 only fills the surface with a dark
gray instead of the text, so I think I can say that the missing fonts are not a
problem in the direct3d surface or drawing code.
I suspect that bf1942 generates the font textures at startup and that this
fails. I looked at a +font,+gdi,+bitmap trace but I couldn't find anything
obvious. I set the bug to wine-gdi as this isn't a binary specific problem.
BTW, I couldn't find any font files in the installation directory of the full
version. Interestingly, some in-game fonts work, like the player names when you
look at them, or the console (°) or the fps counter('fps 1' in the console).
Those fonts are not drawn from the same texture, but the broken in-game fonts
are.

Summary: Final Fantasy 8 using hardware renderer gives a black

Product: Wine

As the title says as soon as I start Final Fantasy 8 I get to see the squaresoft
logo, afterwards the screen goes black for a while, then afterwards the game
goes to the menu and after the menu selection the screen simply goes black and
stays black.
The cvs version I am using dates from: 23-07-2006, it used to work in Hardware
mode in previous versions of wine so something definately broke during that period.

see the main menu (with New and Load game selection) with the logo missing,
after new game is chosen all I get is a black screen, nothing else.
