proposed fix
This is a proposed fix -- I think it works, but I can't really test it because
actually building a working Wine on AMD64 is a non-trivial task.
However, I did manage to produce a Wine build that complains about a lack of
DirectX 3.0a when running Fallout instead of producing a huge list of
check_no_exec messages followed by a SEH stack overflow, so I think there was
an improvement.
Somebody who actually knows something about Windows image loading really needs
to look at this, too, because for all I know, I broke something horribly.

This installs fine for me with current cvs. The game wouldn't start as it stated
that msxml4 was not properly installed. In the directory "redist" there was a file
msxmlenu.msi and after installing that the game started up fine into the menu's.
Starting the actual game gave a crash but that's another bug

Upon further inspection, it appears that Titan Quest uses multithreaded D3D,

support this somehow before Titan Quest will work.

pidgen.dll comeswith almost all MS-products starting with ie5.5sp2, ie6, office
2000, various Development environments and is present in windows since w2k.
When this Game is 2000/XP only and expect pidgen.dll, we must provide our
version with our ie6-replacement.
Chris, can you please retry with a native "pidgen.dll".
Thanks
Is a Demo-Version available for Download?
Marking the App "Gold", when it requires native dll's is wrong.

This bug is actually against wine 0.9.18, but that wasn't available in the drop
list.
The function InternetCheckConnection in dlls/wininet/internet.c is to naive:
It checks for an available connection to a host by pinging it. The problem
arises from misconfigured hosts (or routers along the way) which drop pings
without responding. The application which initiated the call then assumes the
host to be unabvailable.
The URL links to an application which exhibits this behaviour. An account is
needed, which can be got here:

Summary: ntdll/virtual.c:map_image messes up section permissions
when sec->Misc.VirtualSize is wrong
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: nmiell(a)comcast.net
After mapping sections and performing relocations, map_image goes back to each
section and sets it's image protections to their final values. When doing this,
it calls VIRTUAL_SetProt with size = ROUND_SIZE( sec->VirtualAddress,
sec->Misc.VirtualSize ). If sec->Misc.VirtualSize is less than
sec->SizeOfRawData, this doesn't set the permissions for the entire region,
leaving the permissions of the section "c-rW-". Executable sections don't get
their x bit, and this breaks on systems where read doesn't imply exec.
This breaks Fallout, Fallout 2, and their respective setup programs.

On AppDB, searching for the term "Dawn of War" (sans quotes) does not yield a
result for the title "Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War", which is in the database.
Searching for "Dawn of" (sans etc) does. Likewise, searching for "War" does, as
do "dawn", "Warhammer", or most puzzlingly, "Warhammer dawn of war". "dawn war"
does not yield a result for that title.
I submit that this is broken behavior.

There is the same alpha-chanel-problem in the game Icewind Dale
(http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=208), 'cause it uses the same
engine. I use the intel 855 graphics card, with relative new drivers (Suse
10.1). So this is no graphic driver or hardware bug, furthermore the game
gives the possability to select software rendering for transparency, but this
does not solve the problem.

A free trial version of Arcview 9.1 is available on request,
but you have to wait a couple weeks for them to mail
you the cd-rom.
The installer runs to completion, but the result is not happy.
Before starting the installer, you should install the Visual C++ 6
runtimes, and set the registry key to indicate that IE 6 is installed
(see http://kegel.com/wine/fakeie.sh.txt).
A few highlights from the log:
err:module:import_dll Library MFC42u.DLL (which is needed by L"C:\\Program

wine: Call from 0x7ee9db60 to unimplemented function

It dumps a lot of files into c:\, and it dumps a lot of files into
c:\Progra~1 !
There's plenty to keep somebody busy here for a week, I bet.

works with wine 0.9.18 (with wordviewer 97 at least).
I don't have the privileges to change the status, so feel free to close it.

Works now with wine 0.9.18
Now installs out-of-the box (i.e. on a fresh install of wine) with no need to
configure a different windows version. Furthermore now works with OS set to e.g.
win XP as well.
So for me it is fixed. (although I cannot pin it to a specific release)
I don't have the privileges to mark it as fixed though...

Summary: Setup asks for PidGen.dll when verifying the product
key.
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P4
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: spencercw(a)googlemail.com
In Age of Mythology, and possibly other programs, the setup program says it
needs PidGen.dll to verify the product key. This can be fixed by copying
mfc42.dll from C:\WINDOWS\system32\ on a Windows system to
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/, but a built-in solution would be better.

You need to have the SystemDrive variable set to "C:" to get past this exception.

Ignore the official site, and grab the download straight from:
http://download.esd.licensetech.com/Microsoft/DMMSO12B/PRO/AKAMAIFILES/OPPL…
as it will crash before you need the license key anyway.
Copy gdiplus.dll to windows/system32 before running.

WINEDEBUG=+msi dump
I tried to install with CVS from July 28, 2006. The installer loops through the
installation of quicktime over and over as previously stated. There are several
ole errors, and advapi errors in addition to the msi errors and when the about
itunes page comes up, no text is displayed on the screen. I finally killed the
application after watching it loop 4 times.

Hi more news.
I got now behind the loading screen, and was for 2-3 seconds ingame!
All I had do to was simply to select the 2nd Porsche Cayman, everything else
was default.
Before it crashed it displays 20times this message in the console:
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DQueryImpl_GetData (0x27f5808) : stub
The number in the braces varies.

No its crashing still. It appears to not be able to install due to permisions to
the commons folder under Program files Commons.
IKernel.exe could not be copied to 'c:\Program Files\Common\
Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32'
Make sure that you have the appropriate priveleges to copy files to this folder.
I have the proper permissions! I've tried a backtrace and I didn't capture any
backtrace information at all.

So, there are two remaining problems when starting this game:
* If Wine is set up to let the window manager control applications, Heroes V
does not appear (it shows a black screen for some time, then keeps running
with wininet errors, which are probably not related to the problem. However,
this seems to indicate that the game is still running, but does not display

* It crashes when displaying intro films. In the full game, the game can play
the 'real' intro film without crashing, which can be accomplished by removing
the two logo films from an .xml file (see AppDB).

I was installing the JDK from the URL given above,
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
The behavior is the same with either JDK 1.5 update 6 or 7. md5sums:
d684c84a746da6139170437d4dc638cc jdk-1_5_0_06-windows-i586-p.exe
39be9eb7243160b72ac7a0da7ea13cf0 jdk-1_5_0_07-windows-i586-p.exe
The problem happens only if you check the
"install public JRE" box in the JDK installer.
And, as you reported in comment 6, sometimes the installer
reports success even though you still see a cabinet err and an msi
'Execution halted' err.
This behavior is unchanged with today's wine from git.
Thus the installer is probably not operating properly.
I have not yet checked to see which fails it fails to install...

Hi thx for response.
I play Dark Age of Camelot from 4 year and not use demo o trial
account but regular account.
A brief spiegation for this problem.
Case 1
New Installation
In this case is required double updating.
First step
- only file camelot.exe, updating.dat, game.dll and this phases work very well.
Second step
- check all file installed on pc before second updating (300/400MB or 2GB c.ca
in case of last expansion Darkness Rising) and this updating not work. After
finish check file appears at video mini popup and in this popup is write:
Error 308
Impossible to complete software updating.
Retry to connect in few minutes.
If this test failed check your network connection.
Case 2
Running client patched in other method, eg: from windows.
In this case is necessary only check for file installed before login windows
running but at finish check appears popup windows.
Error 308
Impossible to complete software updating.
Retry to connect in few minutes.
If this test failed check your network connection.
Attention.
Error 308 not is wine error but, i suppose, Mythic Entertainment error.
Look this link for details:
http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/kb/article.php?id=271
I attempting to reboting wine (wineboot) and rename file but not solving
problem.
I not programming in C but suppose problem in wininet.dll and attempting to
debug but not redirect output in any file.
EG: WINEDEBUG="+wininet" wine camelot.exe 2&>1 > /home/my_user/winedaoc.log
not work and debug information appears in console.
Thx a lot for help.

watch for patches here.

Working patch for Wine 0.9.18
With Wine 0.9.18, WoW does not require a special patch to fix the targetting of
NPC characters.
However, nVidia users still need a patch because of these crashes. The
attached patch is a modification of the 0.9.16 patch posted earlier, but with
the mmap stuff removed. This patch stops WoW from crashing on startup with the
'Enable all shader effects' option, and when entering a building with the
minimap on.

Reinstalled the game. Seems to work well this time round. I could have sworn

My apologies for the false alarm. I guess trying to reinstall before asking

I'm marking this as fixed because the ole issue you saw was fixed. Please open
another bug for the black screen issue under the component "wine-shdocvw".

My patch just made it into git/cvs and will enable the shaders to compile
correctly, but there are still the following problems with the game:
- Moving the mouse at all before the Start button appears will freeze and crash
the game
- We don't support multiple render targets yet, so much of the screen is black
still becase we don't render the requested output. Henri Verbeet is working on
some cleanup in that part of the code, so we may support this soon.
- Sound is pretty choppy.
But, here's a screenshot with GLSL mode and the patch:

i.e. that bug is a duplicate).

I've noticed that you submitted a patch mentioning Settlers 2. Will any

please note also:
the demo of this game might never have exisited. but the bug is the _same_ for
Baldurs Gate 2 when the ``3d hardware accel`` is disabled (e.g. in the ini). for
BG2 there was a demo floating around.

IIRC there is another bug filed for this. I say IIRC because if it was
submitted, it was done so by me, but I cant remember if I actually submitted it
or just mentioned it on the dev list.. If you can find it, please close this bug.

Just compiled Wine from the latest possible CVS and it still launches KeyNote
just fine. I don't know what's going on with your installation, but I think
something's screwy...

Something has got to be different in our settings/distro? I just deleted my
.wine directory and was able to install it again fine from the link I provided.
I can't replicate this bug now and I'm using todays CVS release.

That's very odd. I just right now downloaded and installed with a completely
fresh Wine 0.9.18 and it installed and started just fine. What Wine are you using?

In continuum, which runs fine in fullscreen mode, fails to use it's windowed
component. If you don't have a virtual desktop it's running on, it doesn't show
any graphics, but it does have sounds, indicating it's connected. If it is in a
virtual desktop, it draws, but has an offset problem, causing it to be unusable.
This doesn't affect the fullscreen mode, which works fine.
