I was playing prey (doom3 engine based game; uses opengl for graphics).
Using wine 0.9.16 the games runs as good as it where a native one (good work ;) )
but after updating to 0.9.17 (from fedora extras) the mouse is not really usable
in the menu (it hits invisible walls; moves veryslow, etc.) In game the mouse
problems continues;
have anything input (mouse) related changed from 0.9.16 -> 0.9.17 ?
if yes what? and could it be reverted; because it was working better before...

I'm using gentoo, now I upgraded wine to 0.9.17 and the problem is still
there... using native dinput.dll cause the game to crash during load.
This is the line where appears the error when using native dinput.dll:

This game creates multiple dinput devices - exactly what Wine doesn't really
support. Fortunately it seems it uses only one device at a time. So releasing
the other device works fine.
I haven't really tested the game but keys on login screen do work now (delete,
arrows, etc).
Patch sent.

Yes. Using native DINPUT.DLL allows the left and right arrow keys to work as
well as the Tab, Backspace and Delete keys.
PLease note that the Home and End keys do not work with Native DINPUT.DLL.

Another workaround is to patch the installer executable from ROC CD. You need to
copy ROC CD contents to a temporary location and edit Install.exe in a hex
editor (e.g. ghex2). Go to offset 0x11326 and replace value 75 with EB,
save&exit and execute it. The installer for FT doesn't need to be patched.

With Rob's patch reverted, and with two more variant.c patches
from Benjamin Arai, ChurchWindows actually starts! Though it still
needs Windows Scripting Host installed. Still, that's fantastic progress.
Hopefully we can get this bug closed out soon.

The real problemis not that the keyboard does not work but that the cursor keys
do not. Mainly it is that the delete an backspace keys don't work. If you type
in a wrong character you canot correct it without clicking off "remember login

Summary: In Starscape, mouse is unusable

ape.exe
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Rincebrain(a)gmail.com
With 0.9.17, Starscape now functions reasonably in OpenGL mode (IE: you can see
the in-game textures).
Sadly, the mouse will not function correctly in-game, and as a result, it
remains mostly unplayable.
If you attempt to run Starscape in windowed mode, and move the mouse into the
window, it will immediately jump to some point outside of the window.
If you, instead, attempt to run Starscape in fullscreen mode, the cursor will
not jump, but it will also not register in-game, and clicking anywhere is useless.
This behavior persists regardless of whether one chooses to use Starscape's
DirectInput 5 or DirectInput 8 configuration options.
The URL included is a link to the demo version of the game, which contains all
relevant functionality, as well as the bug.
As far as I know, this has never worked in Wine - I am certain it has not worked
within the last ten releases of Wine, and reasonably certain it did not work
prior to that, however, testing this would be difficult (as mentioned in the
first line, for a long time, this game was unusable in Wine because Wine would
draw none of the in-game graphics, resulting in the game's main menu being
invisible).

Summary: Wine and winecfg will not start up with some network
configurations
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.17.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: m.marwedel(a)onlinehome.de
Hello,
on my system wine and winecfg will not start up on some configurations of the
network.
If my eth0 device has a fixed IP, wine and winecfg are starting properly up.
After running 'sudo dhclient eth0' they will not start any longer. In this
state ifconfig shows this:
eth0 Protokoll:Ethernet Hardware Adresse
inet Adresse:192.168.1.12 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Maske:255.255.255.0
inet6 Adresse: fe80::...

RX bytes:1954 (1.9 KiB) TX bytes:1018 (1018.0 b)
Interrupt:20 Basisadresse:0xe800
After running 'sudo ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1' wine and winecfg are working again
and ifconfig shows a lo0 interface. Then running a 'sudo ifdown lo' switches
wine and winecfg back to not working.
For me it looks like wine and winecfg need at least one network interface with
a fixed IP to work. The problem is that wine and winecfg are not showing ANY
messages and you have to terminate them with Control+C.
I think it would be good to show a message why they are not working, because I
needed relatively long to find out why they are sometimes working and
sometimes not.

The trace seems pretty harmless. The only think I wonder is why a game that
requires a P90 according to the demo download page uses Direct3D :-\
Can you retry with latest git? I have fixed a bug related to Direct3D
initialization. If the game crashes again can you try to run it in winedbg,
maybe we can get a better crash dump.

The demo is a 650MB download.
It installs without trouble. You're given the choice to install Direct X.
(I chose 'no'.)
To run the game, you need first to install one native dll, d3dx9_25,
as with other games (e.g.
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=4905&iTestingId=3737)
although perhaps just clicking 'ok' when the installer wants to
install Direct X would do. So that's the first bug.
The second bug is the game calls the unimplemented function SetHeapInformation.
Adding an 'do nothing and always succeed' implementation of that function
(attached) helps it get further.
The next problem is that the game wants "version 1.1 pixel shaders",
and refuses to start, at least for me.
Here's the console output:
dank@lappy:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Lionhead Studios/Black & White 2 Demo$

(and then it gives a dialog box saying I don't have shader support.
Clicking 'ok' crashes.)

Summary|Mankind crashes when |running Mankind via Wine
|changing config |0.9.17 ruins gnome panel
------- Additional Comments From boeser.wolff(a)web.de 2006-15-07 16:46 -------
The crash does no longer occur when I remove my .wine-directory from Wine 0.9.16
and install Mankind again.
Mankinds options can be changed by menu and are also saved.
But as soon as Mankind starts all of my gnome panels turn black until refreshed
moving the mouse over each element, or clicking on it. Some applets can be restored.
So far there seems to be no evidence that this behavior does have anything to do
with nvidia-glx. It did not happen with wine 0.9.16.

Luckily I do not have the problem with the ALT key (as can be seen in the
screen shots).
My graphics card is a nVidia FX 5700. I'm using the closed source driver
because I need the 3D support.
Two screen shots are attached, one show the bad text background colors, the
other the screen after the flashing of screen areas started.
After reverting to 0.9.16 everything is fine again.
I can provide "good" screenshots for comparison if this helps.

Flashing screen areas in Diablo
The screen has broken up badly. The basic layout is still intact, but all kinds
of objects and areas are rapidly flashing. Many of the areas that are displayed
in some weird color in the screenshot flash in white on the screen. The
different colors in the screenshot may be a product of the color translation
(paletizing?).

Apparently set_queue_size isn't what is causing the issue, per an op on #winehq.

least part of the problem. This issue appears to be related to bug 5398.

Hi,
This bug is specific to wow, d3d9 and ATI 9550 graphics card (may affect other
ATI cards too) but does not affect Nvidia cards so I believe.
*** FPS is 10 times slower than opengl, ATI 9550, d3d9 ***
Hardware Config:

WoW V1.11.2
Graphics Card ATI 9550
ATI driver 8.26.18
Running in d3d9 (not opengl, which works fine)
- When running in d3d9 mode the FPS as shown in wow (CNTRL R) shows about 3FPS
for a specific location i.e. indoors, if you run in opengl mode 30FPS is
typical. 3FPS means the game is unplayable.

Okay,
The windows version must be set to Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 to avoid a crash
when attempting serial communications. Per the Wine user's guide, you must
create symlinks to your serial devices in ~/.wine/dosdevices:
ln -s /dev/ttyS0 com1
ln -s /dev/ttyS1 com2
ln -s /dev/ttyS2 com3
ln -s /dev/ttyS3 com4
The following errors are observed in the console. (these are the same errors
reported by others above):
fixme:comm:set_queue_size insize 16384 outsize 4096 unimplemented stub
err:comm:get_baud_rate tcgetattr error 'Input/output error'
Some related functions were implemented by Eric Pouech in may 2006, including
adding the stub for set_queue_size:
http://www.winehq.com/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-May/022683.html
The second error listed may be related to the first for all I know, so if
set_queue_size is implemented at some point this may start working.

It turned out the problem was fixed after all. Newer Wine versions create
registry entries for DirectPlay8, which was what stopped this application from
starting.

Rayman 3 hoodlum havoc in 640x480x16 (almost ok)
I have downloaded Rayman 3 demo (should be in appdb in a while). There is a
R3_Setup_DX8.exe program. It shows something silly as 640x480x0 resolutions.
Into screens looks better in 640x480x16 It looks that d3d code assume 640x480

debug output of the crash
I can confirm this bug with wine 0.9.17 (compiled from source).
InstallShield loads and seems to create a splash-screen (at least there is an
area in the middle of the screen which looks exactly like the windows it
covers, but which does not update). Then the window with the error-message
described in the original bug report is shown and the last line in the debug
output is
"err:variant:SafeArrayPutElement Invalid pvData would crash under Win32!"
The lines following after this message appear, when I click the OK-button in
the above mentioned window. The installer then terminates.

I don't think that this is a duplicate of Bug 4445. Bug 4445 happens when you
host a game yourself e. g. in a LAN or something. You can't do this on
Battle.net, because every game is actually being hosted on the Battle.net
servers. This bug relates exclusively to the Closed Battle.net.
Also, CPU usage doesn't affect this bug at all, i can play the game fine even
with _very_ high CPU usage (e. g. when compiling WINE CVS versions ;))

Hi,
Hardware Config:
0.9.17 (Patched as per WoW AppDB) otherwise targeting won't work
WoW V1.11.2
Graphics Card ATI 9550
ATI driver 8.26.18
Running in d3d9 (not opengl, which works fine)
I don't get the corrupt text problem, here's a snapshot showing what I get instead.
http://appdb.winehq.org/appimage.php?iId=3049
- vertical image offset by one third of image height downwards.
- character image (top left in circle) id not displayed
- FPS is 10 times slower than when running in opengl
Regards
Nick Law
WoW AppDB Maintainer.
That's strange.
Hardware Config:
0.9.17 from portage, and compiled (WoW-patched)
WoW V1.11.2
Graphics Card Nvidia 6200TC
Newest "nvidia" driver
d3d9 is faster than opengl, but as said, text is corrupt for me

I have not submitted the patch yet but it sent it to wine-devel@ to get

Summary: "False color" effects in text backgrounds and objects
(Diablo II LoD)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.17.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: adolf.j.winterer(a)inn-salzach.de
This bug occurred with 0.9.17 for the first time, with no other version
before.
The game I'm playing is Diablo II LoD Patch 1.11. I have been using all 0.9.x
versions of Wine and the colors had been fine. With 0.9.17 the background
colors of texts (like the name of objects you find on the floor) and the
backgrouund color of objects (like you have in your inventory or chest) are
drawn in false colors. After a short time into the game the miscolorations
start to spread to dialog boxes. And after another short time areas of the
screen (like the big orbs signalling your life and mana points) first go white
then start flashing. The color flashing effects get so bad that you have to
quit the game.
The game does not crash.
I will try 0.9.18 as soon as the RPM is available from:

And I verified Andrey's advice; creating that registry key helps some.

I'd like to see what you're looking at.

After reverting http://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-July/024546.html
to get around the crash bug, installing the PSDK gets quite far.
It annoyingly prompts you to insert disk some-long-name-ending-in-msi,
but clicking on Cancel gets you past that.
After a while, though, it aborts, probably after these lines:
err:cabinet:FDICopy PFDI_OPEN returned zero for

This is probably an easy bug to fix for an MSI developer;
ACTION_AppSearchComponents always sets value to NULL, so the
crash happens if ACTION_AppSearchComponents succeeds.
I'll attach a +msi log for grins.

Created an attachment (id=2908)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=2908&action=view)
output from morrowind installation
installation appears to be working as of 0.9.17.
Plently of err messages appearing though due to some interface not being
exposed correctly.
I haven't really experimented with native dll's or done a full trace on the ole
part to see what's going wrong.
Install hangs at the end and requires it to be explicitly killed.
Actually starting the game is impossible without a nocd crack or unless you use
the latest ntoskrnl.exe to support SecurRom (and even then it may not support
the version used by Morrowind). At least its getting closer now :)

I have the same Problem. Tried wine versions 0.9.15, 0.9.16, 0.9.17 (deb). Also
tried 0.9.16 compiled from deb-src.
The behavior is the same for full version and demo: Installation runs fine until
100%, then I get a message-box "Please insert disk 1, containing file
"setup.exe". This is needed for setup program to finish properly."
The box already has the correct path to Setup.exe. Clicking OK results in:
"Setup could not find a file on the specified path or disk. Please check that
the proper disk is insertedor specify a new path."

Matthias, could you check direct TCP/IP? Also the regression test seems promising.

Or rather what it does is.. it sets states to capture, then capture the data.
Then it sets another stateblock with its own data (apply).
Then it sets the stateblock previously captured.
It's a save-and-restore state sequence - I'm just not sure we're getting all the
details right.

I'll look at all of those next week - in process of moving to NYC.
However, one thing I should make note of is that this code makes use of a
stateblock capture feature. Specifically:
- begin stateblock
- set states to capture [ often with garbage data, since the data is ignored ]
- end stateblock
- capture states
- apply stateblock
This is exactly what caused the first bug breaking NFS:MW (lights-related), and
I fixed that one... maybe there's more, and that causes those new crashes. I
submitted a framework for testing stateblock behavior to wine-patches yesterday.
If accepted, I can add more test coverage which should help us fix some of those
issues.

It could be a crack, or any modifications you might be using (such as maphack,
item grabbers, etc). If you are not using any, could you please do regression
testing following the instructions at: http://winehq.org/site/docs/winedev-
guide/x1348 and let us know which patch broke it. If I remember correctly,
0.9.8 worked, so if you go back to the checkin date for 0.9.8 and start from
there you should be able to find it relatively easily.

It's been a while since I had a linux machine, but I have an extra hard drive
or 2 that I can toss into my current windows machine and just setup dual
boot. I will try to do that over this weekend, and post an update with a
regression test once I do get it done. Note that I did not report this but I
believe I can still find my copies of SC and BW somewhere, and can find out.
I will test 0.9.16 first, and then if it does as reported, I will confirm,
test on 0.9.17, and then regression test.

A very recent test report says:
"battle.net timeouts are really high sometimes(about 2-3mins+) "
Which would indicate that it might not be infinite anymore, but just very long.
Can someone else confirm?
