disable using VFAT_IOCTL_READDIR_BOTH
seems VFAT_IOCTL_READDIR_BOTH is buggy on 64bit(or at least behaves different
then on 32bit). Though I have no idea what exactly is going on there ...
This patch could be used as workaround to disable the ioctl.

Some games are using 32 bit rgba cursor files. This file format isn't supprtoed
by wine. Effect in game is that no cursor is vissible when this kind of rgba
cursor is used.
Solution 1:
Load 32 bit cursor as 24 bit one and ignore alpha. (I have made hack that works
this way)
Solution 2:
Use X transperancy support. (Game creators had good reason wanting transperant
cursor)

Both these games hang on the splash screen when they are loading and don't get

something may be wrong with your machine and it may be overheating or have a
virus (which shows it hasn't locked up).

compiled executable (Project2.exe).
On running it, it creates an empty window. A msgbox pops up (saying "Error")
if the compare mistakenly matches the two different strings:
a$ = Chr$(1) + Chr$(0) + Chr$(1)
If a$ = Chr$(1) + Chr$(0) + Chr$(2) Then MsgBox ("Error")
Under Windows XP, no msgbox appears.

Fixme's are not errors, you don't need to report them as such.

You don't need sidenet anymore to install IE and there is nothing we can do if

This isn't a duplicate of Bug 5409... The issue is subtly different... This
bug is about it before it downloads... If this bug was a duplicate, I would
not have reported it... The other bug is AFTER it sucessfully connects to
the system to download. This bug is saying it cannot connect at all to
Microsoft web server! I thought you guys would see that...

The attached patch confirms that CryptVerifyMessageSignature is the problem.
Without it the application quits immediately after calling
CryptVerifyMessageSignature. With it the app makes a couple more calls to
verify the (NULL) certificate passed to it.
Fixing this will likely require implementing CryptSignMessage (to understand the
format) and CryptVerifyMessageSignature.

It looks like this bug is not a duplicate of bug 1631, because in my case (see
bug 5476) everything works nice under 2.6.16.20 (both alsa/oss). I'm using only
vanilla kernels with no patches applied. So, this bug is _not_ gentoo specific.
I have Creative Sound Blaster Live (emu10k1 kernel driver) soundcard which
allows full hardware sound acceleration. And only in 2.6.17 (both alsa/oss) I
get numeroes errors like:

Other than James's suggestion which kinda worries me that I'll end up having to

It's been what, nearly a year now and this is a rather severe issue rendering

Now done. The result is what I expected: It is no longer necessary to copy in
the native inseng.dll; the installation works fine without it on my FC5 machine.
So, the inseng.dll patch seems to work great.
However, this bug is not about inseng.dll at all, in my opinion. This is tracked
on bug 1293. I still get the error "The download location information is
damaged" on my FC4 machine (and it's not the MS server problem).

The menus when Half-Life is started don't draw other than the initial one
meaning it's impossible to actually go into the video section and change the
screenmode or to select load game and pick a game. You can click one of the
links on the original menu and it plays the sound, but you can only hit escape
to get back again as it doesn't update anything on the screen. Moving the mouse
around and trying to click things also has no effect.

Summary: pbrush.exe (windows 3.1 version) does not handle mouse-
button-down quite right
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.15.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P5
Component: wine-winelib
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: pokey(a)yellow5.com
When the user attempts to draw in the image window with the mouse button down,
the proper behavior that Windows (all versions from 3.1 to XP) observes is that,
when the cursor hits the border of the image, the cursor is blocked from moving
outside the image. In wine, the cursor moves out of the image.
Example: A user wishes to circle some text near the edge of the image. The
user clicks and holds the mouse button and begins to move the mouse around the text.
When the user reaches the edge of the image, the cursor should be prevented from
moving past the edge so that the text may be fully encircled. Windows-proper
prevents the cursor from moving past the edge, thus allowing the text to be
demarcated. Wine does not prevent the cursor from moving past the image,
thereby making this task vastly more difficult.

Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: test
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ravinderonline(a)yahoo.com
The problem is this: CFileDialog has a built in function called
OnFolderChange, that is used to determine whether the user has changed
folders in the dialog, whether by double click or what not.. the
program i'm working on overrides the CFileDialog class, and includes
more code for the OnFolderChange function (and for other functions) for
its own
purposes. the new OnFolderChange function works perfectly fine in
windows, but is completely ignored when using wine - it never even gets
called, while the rest of the dialog window retains all of its intended
functionality.
Here is the sample code.
class CVDBChooserDialog : public CFileDialog
{
//other code
virtual void OnFolderChange();
virtual void OnFileNameChange();
}
void CVDBChooserDialog::OnFolderChange()
{
//AfxMessageBox("Inside OnFolderChange");
TRACE("\n\nOnFolderChange Start");
//my desired code is written here but control isnt coming in this function
in case of wine.

I have tried with both SuSE 10.0 32 and 64 bit editions.
The default Wine shipped with SuSE (Wine 20050725) works fine, but whenever I
upgrade it; be it by compiling or by RPM; I stop having access to the Internet.
I have tried deleting the ~/.wine directory, using or NOT using "wine tools" and
nothing I try works; any windows application just refuses to connect to the
Internet after upgrading.
I'm thinking there may be a configuration option that defaults to no in the
newer versions, but I haven't found it.
I have found this error (at least) in the last 3 releases of wine, including the
latest.

I took a look at this and it is true that staredit uses 100%. It is perfectly
stable though. I ran a trace and see a lot of X11DRV_DIB_Lock, Coerce, and
Unlock. I think massive DIB surface converting is the problem. It's not a ddraw
app. So I thought about it and shrunk the window from 1280x1024 to about
300x200. It's much more responsive now. Still uses 100% of cpu though. I think
this issue is really dependent on the DIB engine.

When running dotnetfx.exe directly downloaded from msdn, the install bails out
pretty early, complaining that "Extracting file failed." Looking through a
+file,+relay shows nothing that would warrant the error, but it's worth looking
into. I was able to run install.exe from the temporary directory it was
extracted to though, and I get the same error. From information in the link,
the installer is trying to stop the Windows Installer service *if* it's already
running, to not conflict with the install. I'm thinking we should see what
return values the installer is expecting from advapi32, seeing as how we don't
run as a service, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Definately a sound issue. I would mark it duplicate of 1631 because of other
similar reports I have gotten on blizzard games (seen below). Although that bug
report is becoming a mess. Also, there may be two issues going on anyway. I'm
going to rename this bug "Blizzard Games give unhandled exception with ALSA driver"
>From War3 ROC AppDB:
"RE: Warcraft ROC crashes after ~1 hr. gameplay
by Gain Paolo Mureddu on Sunday June 18th 2006, 5:23
Well, it turns out to be a sound issue (as I suspected) For other appliction I
set the default sound driver to OSS instead of ALSA (I had both enabled,
actually), enabled ALSA and bam! crash within 1hr. of gameplay... Use OSS, and
no crashe. What I DID notice, though, were a LOT of buffer underruns. To be
precise messages like this:
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne underrun on sound buffer 0x7fe756f8
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne underrun on sound buffer 0x7fe756f8
err:dsound:DSOUND_MixOne underrun on sound buffer 0x7fe756f8

Quite a bit of them (I'm not surprised, actually). Is there a way to make the
buffer bigger only for Wine?"

The problem is as follows:
The installer calls MsiDatabaseOpenView with the query "SELECT Condition FROM
Component WHERE Component='_scr56chs.exe'. The call succeeds, but when we try
to allocate a handle to return to the user, via alloc_msihandle, we fail because
we've reached our max number of open handles allowed, MSIMAXHANDLES, which is
240. Either this limit is too low, which a simple test case can clear up, or we
have a handle leak somewhere.

The problem is as follows:
1) msi calls the custom action CA_AcquireKey.
2) CA_AcquireKey tries to open a browser window, or connect to the internet in
some way.
3) CA_AcquireKey returns the result "1603", which is an error.
4) CA_MigrateCurrentUserTempKey fails to copy temporary registry keys, which
indicates that the key was never written in the first place.
5) CA_CleanupInstallationFiles fails to delete the file
c:\windows\temp\corel\programs\psikey.dll, which indicates that the file was
probably not copied in the first place.
1-3 is one problem, 4 and 5 are each separate problems. My guess is that the
installer needs to connect to the corel site to get a temporary serial (key),
and fails because it can't connect.

This is a known problem caused by Linux kernel changes. Read wine-devel mail
list archive for more info.
The only solution is to renice Wine processes. (or use uncommitted patch that
does exactly the same).
Of course you can downgrade kernel to pre 2.6.12. Or use one of the mentioned
branches with the fix.
Other then that, it's the dup of Bug 1631
PS I have played with HoMM3 whole weekend long, so I know what I'm talking about.

I get a quick simulation at 98% cpu on a semipron 2.5GHz. The only problems I
have had with switchercad was a bad xorg 6.9 s3 unichrome driver. The fix was to
add a nvidia fx5200 agp card. But that driver just caused the net drawing tool
to not show any the net being drawn.
It is looking like a hardware or distribution specific problem.
Is that a 32 or 64 bit AMD micro and what mode is you OS running. Also add some
details as to hardware and kernel version. Any missing components from the
./configure phase of the build.
You could also try a make clean or make distclean. I switched to GIT from CVS as
CVS seems to leave things in the tree if directorys are moved.

Summary: VB6.0 string compare gives wrong result
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.12.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: charles(a)diagnos.co.uk
Running a test program with the following code in it (compiled using Visual
Basic 6.0) gives different results on Windows XP and on Wine 0.9.12 running on
Debian (unstable):
a$ = Chr$(1) + Chr$(2) + Chr$(0) + Chr$(3)
If a$ = Chr$(1) + Chr$(2) + Chr$(0) + Chr$(4) Then MsgBox ("WOW1")
Under Windows XP, the correct result is given (ie no msgbox).
Under Wine, the msgbox pops up.
The program gets the correct length of the string (ie 4), and can read the
correct characters off, but thinks that the two strings match when compared.
It only has this problem when the chr$(0) is in the string. Does the string
compare function see the chr$(0) and think it's a null-terminated string?

Summary: Switchercad scad3 doesn't run at full speed
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: BSDI
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bon(a)elektron.ikp.physik.tu-darmstadt.de
On the Athlon board at work, a switchercad simulation doesn't run at full speed.
CPU utilization is below 20 %. On my Centrino laptop, the simulation runs at
full speed. Switchercad is avaliable as a free download at www.linear.com
(->Design Support). As refernce, I use the LT3479 demo circuit (search "lt3479"
-> Software and Simulation LT3479 Demo Circuit).
The program author, Mike Engelhard, is normally quite helpfull when asked and is
supportive to run switchercad on wine.

>I still don't see how is that Wine's bug and not microsoft's?
>Several of last posts indicated that this behavior exactly matches that of the
>native.
Again, I think we are facing several problems here:
1) The MS Web server bug. Causes error "Thw download location information is
damaged." Can be solved just by trying again, or "prefetching" the file with
"wget http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6sp1/download/rtw/x86/ie6sites.dat"
2) Some other problem which causes the installation program to not even try to
fetch the file. Also causes the error "The download location information is
damaged". See comment #12. This problem is that this bug should focus on, IMHO.
As you point out, we can't fix the MS server. I've confirmed this problem on one
machine only, but with many versions of Wine.
3) The need for inseng.dll. Can be solved either by downloading the native
inseng.dll, or use the patch pointed out in comment #13.
4) The problem that IE doesn't *run*, after installation. Confirmed by me and
Dan Kegel. Bug 5463.
Until we have found out why ie6setup.exe doesn't even try to download files on
one of my machines, this bug should be left open, IMO.

With the Individuals tab sometimes I've had a problam that there were no columns
in the list. Sometimes switching from the Individuals tab to another and then
back to Individuals was enough for all the columns to disapear. Try to right
click on the header and add some columns. Also for the data won't show up, the
column that was chosen for sorting must be added.

Your bug is somewhat lacking.
Firstly, Gentoo is an unreliable operating system, gentoo problems are common,
various and difficult to reproduce.
Second, you need to specify how to reproduce the problem, ie. which application
that using, and which specific sound driver.
Thirdly, we need to know the sound chip (Linux driver) that you're using.
I'd advise nobody to work on this bug until you reproduce the bug on a stable
distribution (eg. non-Gentoo), and specify the application, wine sounds driver,
and chipset you're using.

I just did a google search for the problem (since it was the only error that was
spit back at me I figured that it might be out in the world wide web. Needless
to say, there were posts with that problem peppered throughout several forums
(all seemed to relate to playing games, usually in cedega or wine) but none
seemed to really have any set resolutions to the issue (maybe this is a chance
to change that?) anywho, the one lead that I did get was to try changing the ati
agpgart from either internal or external to the other (so switching whatever it
is right now) Being a gentooer, a kernel recompile isn't much of a problem so
I'll see if switching this can fix the problem.

Just updated to Wine 0.9.15. Tried running the game again (once again from a
windows installation) and I now get:
FATAL: fglX11FreeBuffer: firegl_FreeBuffer() failed!
To me it looks like an ati driver issue. I do have an ati card (x800 pro) but
the card, drivers, etc... are installed correctly and run just fine (and, yes,
3d acceleration is enabled and working). I checked the gentoo forums and
searched for this error and noticed that it only seemed to appear for people who
were running some games on wine or if their system was actually messed up, which
is making me think that it might be a wine issue? Please let me know if there is
anything else I could post (debug or whatever) but please specify the commands
for it, as I may not know what needs to exactly be run.

I removed ~/.wine, and installed ie6 with exactly wine-0.9.15 plus
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-June/027630.html
(careful, you have to run 'autoconf' after that patch).
The first time I tried running ie6setup.exe, I ran into bug 5409,
but just rerunning setup got me past the failure.
I was able to finish setup with only a few annoying warnings
(I had to click 'ok' on one error box about copying a crl file).
But the resulting ie won't display anything. Wine says
"Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled"
just as described here
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2006-June/048173.html
Installing the mozilla activex control helped, but at this
point a light went on, and I realized I'm still running Wine's builtin
iexplore.exe!
So I tried setting iexplore.exe and iexplore to 'native' with winecfg.
Oddly, that had no effect; I'm still getting a window titled
"Wine Internet Explorer"
when I run wine iexplore.exe in
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Internet Explorer
This is odd, given that I see
trace:module:load_dll Loaded module L"C:\\Program Files\\Internet
Explorer\\IEXPLORE.EXE" (native) at 0x400000
Setting shdocvw native didn't even get me a window; Wine complains
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {a5e46e3a-8849-11d1-9d8c-00c04fc99d61} not registered
(That uuid is identified as "Microsoft Browser Architecture" on a few sites,
for what it's worth.)
So, now that ie6 installs (yay), how are we supposed to use it?

Jordan,
| I'm not asking you to "support ies4linux."
ies4linux changes Wine configuration a lot, and it's hard for us to trace the
changes. Even if we know exact changes made, there will be native DLL used for
particular app. Most of Wine devs also give no support for this mode of using Wine.
| In fact, your own instructions say I should use ies4linux to install IE before
| I even try to install WMP.
You should consider that "we" are not one person. Every community is a more or
less differentiated system :)
Thank you, Jordan, for noticing this. I've already located AppDB page you have
in mind, I hope.
| Why am I trying to install WMP 9? Because I want to install Launchcast and
| WMP 9 is required. But I'm not sure why I have to justify this anyway.
Ok, that reason is fine.
And letting experienced developers to know your reasons can make them able to
give you a more exact advice about how to get Launchcast running (with or
without native DLLs -- it's hard to guess without trying).
Imagine you find installing WMP really helfull for your app. Then you just need
to find appropriate registry key and files (filename) changes, which makes your
app happy. And tell us about them in the report. Long story version of should
follow in a next my reply.
| There's a whole section of your website already dedicated to getting WMP 9 to
| work, and now I'm getting unfriendly replies from people?
That's because some members of Wine users (appdb) community don't know right way
to install WMP9. In our case I'd like to contact Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes to
ask him to transfer all changes being made by "ies4linux" into plain-text script
(on WMP9 page).
| Way to treat the newbie. Sheesh.
Well, maybe yes, but every newbie has to go through a starting point of
understanding that a users community consists of different people with different
abilities. And not all of them are able to do a job which meets primary goals
of Wine. Right? In fact they are asking for help.
Just don't associate such replies with negative emotions of an author, if you
can. And you already has made a good thing by making us notice this conflict of
interests, thanks once more :)

correctly with both richedit 1.0 and richedit 2.x mode.
Looks good at a first glance.

If it is with any sound app. under wine and with alsa the same as with oss, it's
clearly not a wine problem. Try to verify that it works correctly with a native
linux sound app. . If you need help setting it up resort to the user mailinglist
or the irc-channel. If it is realy a wine bug respond here and __name the app.

After reading comment 3 I decided to experiment.
I removed ole2nls.dll, riched20.dll, stdole32.tlb, and usp10.dll from 'system'
and 'system32'. I added usp10.dll from WindozeXP to 'system32'. I changed to
WinME emulation.
Then when PAF ran I could see text everywhere it should be EXCEPT the
'Individual' tab contents. But all text looked ragged untill changing to Arial
font in 'Preferences'. After diddling the text sizes in 'Dialogs' and 'Notes'
and making them all normal text, editing data became reasonably like it should
be. A few 'fixme' messages were displayed.
I copied riched20.dll from WinXP to 'system32' and fewer messages are displayed:

Summary: Fix Wine install
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P4
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chris.kcat(a)gmail.com
Not sure whether to file this under critical/major or enhancement, so I went
with the safer bet.
There's a problem with the way Wine installs itself and creates a "default"
Windows install. Basically, when you upgrade an existing Wine install that has
a ~/.wine directory, any new, changed, or removed files that go into Drive C
will not be carried over. This is because Wine only installs certain DLLs and
EXEs when ~/.wine is created, but for upgrades, it's already there. I wouldn't
doubt this is causing many obscure problems.
The only way to remedy this is to delete your ~/.wine directory and have Wine
create a new one. However, this comes at the nasty cost of wiping all your
Wine settings, the registry, and most Windows program settings. A good number
of Windows apps won't run if registry entries that were created at program
installation aren't there, meaning they need to be reinstalled and
reconfigured. Any and all DLLs previously installed and not provided by Wine
need to be reinstalled as well.
I'm not sure of the exact details to go about this, but a possible solution
may be to put DLLs and EXEs into $PREFIX/lib/wine (instead of in the
~/.drive_c/windows/ heriarchy), map / to Z: by default (already done, AFAIK),
and add Z:$PREFIX/lib/wine to the default Windows PATH setting.
Though this might not work for programs that expect stuff in C:\windows.
Another option may be to make use of /opt, which is for programs that rely on
their own directory structure. /opt/wine and installed files could be given
mode 775/664 and owned by root:wine (so "Administrator accounts" would be
users in the 'wine' group, and "Limited acocunts" wouldn't be). The drive
assignment symlinks would be somewhere in /opt/wine (eg. /opt/wine/dosdrives),
and the default Drive C would be made with make install, instead of first run.
As long as it only installs missing/newer files (and doesn't delete existing
stuff), this would ensure new files are installed and modified files are
updated, without having to behave as if you just reinstalled Windows.
A third, less drastic, option may be to include a script that copies the
proper files to the ~/.wine/dosdrives/c:/windows heriarchy. Something that
could be run after make install, and wouldn't change any existing settings or
delete existing files. The end of make install would alert the user that
people upgrading should run the script to update wine user files (with a
warning to *NOT* run it as root). In addition, you could make it so that when
wine is run and detects the current version is different than the last run
version, it invokes that script automatically before the Windows program is
run (CVS users would still need the script though, since CVS updates don't
always change the version number).

fact, your own instructions say I should use ies4linux to install IE before I
even try to install WMP.
Why am I trying to install WMP 9? Because I want to install Launchcast and WMP
9 is required. But I'm not sure why I have to justify this anyway. There's a
whole section of your website already dedicated to getting WMP 9 to work, and
now I'm getting unfriendly replies from people?

Hmm. Then they contradict themselves. The dx sdk says that calling
QueryInterface on a IDirectDraw interface for the IDirect3D interface returns
a IDirect3D interface. Releasing the IDirect3D interface will not reset the
settings, because the IDirect3D interface has the same lifetime as the
IDirectDraw interface it was queried from.
It could be of course that each interface has its own refcount, but all
interfaces point to the same objects. E.g. that calling SetCooperativeLevel on
the IDirectDraw7 interface also modifies the IDirectDraw interface's refcount.
This needs some unit tests...

------- Additional Comments From wine.dev(a)web.de 2006-17-06 15:35 -------
Hi.
My asumption was, that "transgressed mode" comes from bzip. Sorry for that.
>From your comment #72:
(If ISS is set to NT40, problem doesn't appear. Or if comdlg is native.)
Hm. We try to find the wine-dll, where the Problem is located,
and in a side-note is the answer.
Can you please Verify with a recent wine-version, that the Problem with the
leading Space exist with the buildin "comdlg32.dll" and that the Problem
is absent with a native "comdlg32.dll"?
Thanks.
(The DEBUG-Channel is "+commdlg", but the output has no usable infos)
