I think it's already fixed in the source. Either wait for Wine 0.9.16 or
download and compile latest cvs/git.

I just did a google search for the problem (since it was the only error that was
spit back at me I figured that it might be out in the world wide web. Needless
to say, there were posts with that problem peppered throughout several forums
(all seemed to relate to playing games, usually in cedega or wine) but none
seemed to really have any set resolutions to the issue (maybe this is a chance
to change that?) anywho, the one lead that I did get was to try changing the ati
agpgart from either internal or external to the other (so switching whatever it
is right now) Being a gentooer, a kernel recompile isn't much of a problem so
I'll see if switching this can fix the problem.

Yes, but which ones?
Lots of people are going to ask, we may as well have the answer
in bugzilla.
And if it doesn't work even with the right set of
dlls overridden, then perhaps this bug should be reopened.

Just updated to Wine 0.9.15. Tried running the game again (once again from a
windows installation) and I now get:
FATAL: fglX11FreeBuffer: firegl_FreeBuffer() failed!
To me it looks like an ati driver issue. I do have an ati card (x800 pro) but
the card, drivers, etc... are installed correctly and run just fine (and, yes,
3d acceleration is enabled and working). I checked the gentoo forums and
searched for this error and noticed that it only seemed to appear for people who
were running some games on wine or if their system was actually messed up, which
is making me think that it might be a wine issue? Please let me know if there is
anything else I could post (debug or whatever) but please specify the commands
for it, as I may not know what needs to exactly be run.

What you reproduced is the correct _intended_ behavior. Wine already has ie's
replacement.
So this is not a bug, this is by design. If you want to run native ie, you will
have to override number of Wine's dlls.

Summary: ie6 installs now, but doesn't work...
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.15.
Platform: Other

Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2

I removed ~/.wine, and installed ie6 with exactly wine-0.9.15 plus
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2006-June/027630.html
(careful, you have to run 'autoconf' after that patch).
The first time I tried running ie6setup.exe, I ran into bug 5409,
but just rerunning setup got me past the failure.
I was able to finish setup with only a few annoying warnings
(I had to click 'ok' on one error box about copying a crl file).
But the resulting ie won't display anything. Wine says
"Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled"
just as described here
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2006-June/048173.html
Installing the mozilla activex control helped, but at this
point a light went on, and I realized I'm still running Wine's builtin
iexplore.exe!
So I tried setting iexplore.exe and iexplore to 'native' with winecfg.
Oddly, that had no effect; I'm still getting a window titled
"Wine Internet Explorer"
when I run wine iexplore.exe in
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Internet Explorer
This is odd, given that I see
trace:module:load_dll Loaded module L"C:\\Program Files\\Internet
Explorer\\IEXPLORE.EXE" (native) at 0x400000
Setting shdocvw native didn't even get me a window; Wine complains
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {a5e46e3a-8849-11d1-9d8c-00c04fc99d61} not registered
(That uuid is identified as "Microsoft Browser Architecture" on a few sites,
for what it's worth.)
So, now that ie6 installs (yay), how are we supposed to use it?

Jordan,
| I'm not asking you to "support ies4linux."
ies4linux changes Wine configuration a lot, and it's hard for us to trace the
changes. Even if we know exact changes made, there will be native DLL used for
particular app. Most of Wine devs also give no support for this mode of using Wine.
| In fact, your own instructions say I should use ies4linux to install IE before
| I even try to install WMP.
You should consider that "we" are not one person. Every community is a more or
less differentiated system :)
Thank you, Jordan, for noticing this. I've already located AppDB page you have
in mind, I hope.
| Why am I trying to install WMP 9? Because I want to install Launchcast and
| WMP 9 is required. But I'm not sure why I have to justify this anyway.
Ok, that reason is fine.
And letting experienced developers to know your reasons can make them able to
give you a more exact advice about how to get Launchcast running (with or
without native DLLs -- it's hard to guess without trying).
Imagine you find installing WMP really helfull for your app. Then you just need
to find appropriate registry key and files (filename) changes, which makes your
app happy. And tell us about them in the report. Long story version of should
follow in a next my reply.
| There's a whole section of your website already dedicated to getting WMP 9 to
| work, and now I'm getting unfriendly replies from people?
That's because some members of Wine users (appdb) community don't know right way
to install WMP9. In our case I'd like to contact Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes to
ask him to transfer all changes being made by "ies4linux" into plain-text script
(on WMP9 page).
| Way to treat the newbie. Sheesh.
Well, maybe yes, but every newbie has to go through a starting point of
understanding that a users community consists of different people with different
abilities. And not all of them are able to do a job which meets primary goals
of Wine. Right? In fact they are asking for help.
Just don't associate such replies with negative emotions of an author, if you
can. And you already has made a good thing by making us notice this conflict of
interests, thanks once more :)

After reading comment 3 I decided to experiment.
I removed ole2nls.dll, riched20.dll, stdole32.tlb, and usp10.dll from 'system'
and 'system32'. I added usp10.dll from WindozeXP to 'system32'. I changed to
WinME emulation.
Then when PAF ran I could see text everywhere it should be EXCEPT the
'Individual' tab contents. But all text looked ragged untill changing to Arial
font in 'Preferences'. After diddling the text sizes in 'Dialogs' and 'Notes'
and making them all normal text, editing data became reasonably like it should
be. A few 'fixme' messages were displayed.
I copied riched20.dll from WinXP to 'system32' and fewer messages are displayed:

There's a problem with the way Wine installs itself and creates a "default"
Windows install. Basically, when you upgrade an existing Wine install that has
a ~/.wine directory, any new, changed, or removed files that go into Drive C
will not be carried over. This is because Wine only installs certain DLLs and
EXEs when ~/.wine is created, but for upgrades, it's already there. I wouldn't
doubt this is causing many obscure problems.
The only way to remedy this is to delete your ~/.wine directory and have Wine
create a new one. However, this comes at the nasty cost of wiping all your
Wine settings, the registry, and most Windows program settings. A good number
of Windows apps won't run if registry entries that were created at program
installation aren't there, meaning they need to be reinstalled and
reconfigured. Any and all DLLs previously installed and not provided by Wine
need to be reinstalled as well.
I'm not sure of the exact details to go about this, but a possible solution
may be to put DLLs and EXEs into $PREFIX/lib/wine (instead of in the
~/.drive_c/windows/ heriarchy), map / to Z: by default (already done, AFAIK),
and add Z:$PREFIX/lib/wine to the default Windows PATH setting.
Though this might not work for programs that expect stuff in C:\windows.
Another option may be to make use of /opt, which is for programs that rely on
their own directory structure. /opt/wine and installed files could be given
mode 775/664 and owned by root:wine (so "Administrator accounts" would be
users in the 'wine' group, and "Limited acocunts" wouldn't be). The drive
assignment symlinks would be somewhere in /opt/wine (eg. /opt/wine/dosdrives),
and the default Drive C would be made with make install, instead of first run.
As long as it only installs missing/newer files (and doesn't delete existing
stuff), this would ensure new files are installed and modified files are
updated, without having to behave as if you just reinstalled Windows.
A third, less drastic, option may be to include a script that copies the
proper files to the ~/.wine/dosdrives/c:/windows heriarchy. Something that
could be run after make install, and wouldn't change any existing settings or
delete existing files. The end of make install would alert the user that
people upgrading should run the script to update wine user files (with a
warning to *NOT* run it as root). In addition, you could make it so that when
wine is run and detects the current version is different than the last run
version, it invokes that script automatically before the Windows program is
run (CVS users would still need the script though, since CVS updates don't
always change the version number).

You guys are kidding, right? I'm not asking you to "support ies4linux." In
fact, your own instructions say I should use ies4linux to install IE before I
even try to install WMP.
Why am I trying to install WMP 9? Because I want to install Launchcast and WMP
9 is required. But I'm not sure why I have to justify this anyway. There's a
whole section of your website already dedicated to getting WMP 9 to work, and
now I'm getting unfriendly replies from people?
Way to treat the newbie. Sheesh.

Hmm. Then they contradict themselves. The dx sdk says that calling
QueryInterface on a IDirectDraw interface for the IDirect3D interface returns
a IDirect3D interface. Releasing the IDirect3D interface will not reset the
settings, because the IDirect3D interface has the same lifetime as the
IDirectDraw interface it was queried from.
It could be of course that each interface has its own refcount, but all
interfaces point to the same objects. E.g. that calling SetCooperativeLevel on
the IDirectDraw7 interface also modifies the IDirectDraw interface's refcount.
This needs some unit tests...

Hi.
My asumption was, that "transgressed mode" comes from bzip. Sorry for that.
>From your comment #72:
(If ISS is set to NT40, problem doesn't appear. Or if comdlg is native.)
Hm. We try to find the wine-dll, where the Problem is located,
and in a side-note is the answer.
Can you please Verify with a recent wine-version, that the Problem with the
leading Space exist with the buildin "comdlg32.dll" and that the Problem
is absent with a native "comdlg32.dll"?
Thanks.

Using Wine 0.9.15. Ran ies4linux first, and ran the installer in the ies4linux
directory (see below). Used winecfg to change the Windows version to 2000, then
98. Followed the directions on the AppDB website. It unpacks the installer,
but as soon as it's finishing unpacking it quits and gives me the following:
~/.ies4linux/ie6/drive_c$ wine MPSetup
ALSA lib seq_hw.c:456:(snd_seq_hw_open) open /dev/snd/seq failed: No such file
or directory
fixme:crypt:I_CryptCreateLruCache (0x7fb9fc94, 0x7159bdc8): stub!

err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for
L"C:\\windows\\temp\\IXP000.TMP\\setup_wm.exe" failed, status c0000142
Changing the windows version doesn't help. Neither does overriding the DLL with
a "native" or a "builtin" setting. I checked, the DLL is present in the Windows
system32 directory.
I also tried Henry K's idea: WINEDEBUG="+loaddll" WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msxml3=n"
wine MPSetup (note I changed the name of the installer because I downloaded a
different installer). Didn't work either. But then I got inspired:
~/.ies4linux/ie6/drive_c$ WINEDEBUG="+loaddll"
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msxml3=n;WINTRUST=b" wine MPSetup. That got me an installer
screen, but it said "Setup is currently unable to detect available updates.
Please try again later."
I tried Jim Burns' idea of installing WMP 7.1 first, using my special command
(see above). Once again I got to an installer screen, and it told me: "The
Windows Media Update Notifier is currently unable to detect available updates.
Please try again later."
I'm starting to suspect it's an internet connection problem, but IE6 connects to
the internet just fine.
Any thoughts???

I've found 2 other bugs about this game which describe a simmilar problem.
According to the other bugs(2789 and 2187) this problem has occured with the
old code on certain cards / drivers.
Improving the render target locking in wined3d is on my todo list. Either by
using access traps simmilar to the dib code, or hashing the surface to detect
unnecessary changes, or by using opengl pixel buffer objects. Other games are
affected by that problem too, for example Swat3, System Shock 2 and Empire
Earth.

I've debugged that problem a bit and I have the impression that windows
DirectDraw blatantly violates the COM rules(and the ddraw documentation is
wrong). Basically what ep1 racer does is
1) CreateDirectDraw to create a DirectDraw 1 interface
2) QueryInterface the DDraw 1 interface for a DDraw 4 interface
3) Release the DDraw 1 interface and expect the returned refcount to be 0
4) Continue working with the DD4 interface
The COM rules say that the DD1 and DD4 interface refer to the same object and
that QueryInterface increses the refcount of the object of which the interface
is returned. So step 2 increases the refcount to 2 for both DD1 and DD4 and
accordingly 3 has to return 1, not 0. A quick and dirty test showed that
windows returns 0 instead.
This needs a proper test case and then an idea how to implement that. I'd say
this is a programming sloppyness in ep1 racer:
hr = CreateDirectDraw(..., &DD1, ...);
if(hr != DD_OK) cry_bloody_murder();
hr = QueryInterface(DD1, DD4, ...);
if(hr != DD_OK) cry_bloody_murder();
hr = GetCaps(DD1);
if(hr != DD_OK) cry_bloody_murder();
hr = Release(DD1);
if(hr != DD_OK) cry_bloody_murder(); <--- DD_OK is (HRESULT) 0, but release
returns a ULONG, not a HRESULT
hr = SetCooperativeLevel(DD4);
if(hr != DD_OK) cry_bloody_murder();
etc...
Can you try to patch the game to the newest version?

------- Additional Comments From stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at 2006-17-06 08:39 -------
I found the reason for this crash, this isn't a refcounting bug.
Diablo uses palettized surfaces with 1 byte per pixel. It accesses the surface
with DWORDs, that means it always writes 4 bytes. It isn't careful enought at
the end of the surface and writes over the end of the surface.
For that reason the old ddraw code allocated 4 extra bytes for a surface, the
same happens in WineD3D. However, the gdi surface code drops the full power of
2 size to save memory and doesn't add the 4 extra bytes. I will send a patch
for that to wine-patches.
However, the old directdraw code used an unofficial function for dib creation
to create a DIB section for an already allocated memory which is 4 bytes
bigger. WineD3D uses the official CreateDIBSection function which allocates
its own memory and igores the size value passed to it, so even with the +4
byte fix the crash still occurs. I have to discuss the best way to solve this
with Alexandre. Possible solutions are:
* Use the unofficial function in wined3d and allocate the memory manually
* Modify the dib code to allocate 4 more bytes(see the hack)
* Modify the dib code to respect the size passed to it(bad idea maybe)
The hack I attached to this bug fixes the crash. However, after it the screen
stays completely black. I can hear the sound and it seems to react to input,
but the screen isn't updated, although diablo 1 writes to the front buffer.

My quick guess from the symptoms(slow, high cpu load) is that it locks the

Which Diablo 2 version is this? I've played the Diablo 2 Demo and the german
full version without problems with my new code. However, Jeremy Newman has
also reported crashes with the english Diablo 2.
Diablo 2 has a bug which causes it to crash on 64 MB cards. WineD3D emulates a
64 mb card, while the old ddraw code emulated 16 mb (afair). This crash is
fixed with Diablo 2 version 1.02, the german cds ship 1.03. Can you try to
install the newest D2 update?
Can you try the ddraw mode, d3d mode and gdi mode of diablo 2? (Gdi mode with

Please file different bugs as a new bug. Especially if they are in a different game.
Can somebody check if nfsu still crashes like in the initial bug report with an

Summary: "Checkbox list" widget does not work on Photoshop 5.0 LE
install
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.8.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: denilsonsa(a)gmail.com
Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE (Limited Edition) is the version of Photoshop that was
distributed with Canon N1220U scanner.
The install program has a "Checkbox list" widget that displays a scrollable list
of checkbox items. This widget is used twice in this install program, and allows
the user to customize how the program will be installed.
However, in Wine 0.9.8, if the user tries to change the selected item or click
on that widget, wine becomes frozen, the widget text becomes corrupted, and the
window is not redrawn anymore (although the widget is). It is needed to hit
Ctrl+C at terminal to close wine.
If the user does not modify that widget, install program works fine, and then,
Photoshop appears to work too.
I don't know if this Photoshop version can be distributed (I guess not), but you
can download it at http://denilsonsa.sh.nu/files/photoshop5le.rar.

Hey, can somebody please take care about this issue. May be a good idea to add a
other tabbed to the winecfg to configure how the printers are reported to the
applications and whats to do with the printing output from the programs. It
should not be that hard to fix this up. As far as I know, other programs (mainly
form Adobe) have the same problem. It seems to me that this is a major bug.

Summary: Get a BindException opening a server socket from java
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.2.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: des(a)icandriveatractor.com
I found this problem running the Buffalow LinkTheater application under Linux.
When I run the app a java.net.BindException is thrown while trying to open a
listening socket for HSQLDB. So I made a simple test java program and found the
same problem.
It tries to open a ServerSocket on a given port. It runs fine under the JVM but
not with wine. So the following command works fine:
java com.betplan.giles.tool.TestServerSocket <port>
But when I do:
wine java com.betplan.giles.tool.TestServerSocket <port>
the following exception is thrown:
Exception in thread "main" java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind
I've pasted the sample code below and I tested it using java version 1.5.0_07
import java.net.ServerSocket;
import java.net.Socket;
import java.io.*;
public class TestServerSocket
{
public TestServerSocket( int port )
throws IOException
{
System.out.println("Creating new server socket on port: " + port);
ServerSocket serverSocket = new ServerSocket(port);
}
public static void main( String[] args )
throws IOException
{
new TestServerSocket(Integer.parseInt(args[0]));
}
}

As soon as I put this TTF font into any fontconfig library font path then Wine
breaks (e.g., in the mentioned superpi application - just call the 'about'

I would close out this bug. As described in the APPDB listing for Photoshop 7,
Save for Web will only work if executed with the corrected path. Notes are
presented again below:
SAVE FOR WEB Solution
by Hordak on Wednesday August 11th 2004, 12:47
* SAVE FOR WEB Solution* : Well, after a fair amount of trail-and-error testing,
I have FINALLY found what WILL or WONT allow Save-For-Web to work... It actually
is how you execute Photoshop.exe ... if you try to run it with forward slashes
in the path, Save for Web will NOT work. If you execute with backslashes, Save
for Web WILL work.
So...
Save for Web works with:
wine "c:\program files\adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Photoshop.exe"
Save for Web WILL NOT work with:
wine "c:/program files/adobe/Photoshop 7.0/Photoshop.exe"

Summary: Menus don't collapse properly in Shareaza
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.15.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.shareaza.com/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: adrian.macneil(a)gmail.com
This is a minor bug and doesn't cause any loss of functionality.
In Shareaza, if you click on one of the main menubar items, then move your
cursor to the next menu, it draws the second menu without collapsing the
previous menu first. Once you click out of the menus they usually are all
collapsed, although sometimes they stay open and are visible on top of all
workspaces and don't disappear until you close the application.
