I had originally tried this with 0.9.14, then noticed 0.9.15 was released, and
tried again with it, the results were the same (and actually, the trace is
from 0.9.15, not 0.9.14, I forgot to update the title).
So yes, same results on 0.9.15.

Im still trying to get Mankind to run under Linux. One thing I recently stumbled
upon was a winsock trace, that looks suspicious to me.
I can only guess what keeps Mankind from running, but I suspect either a bug in
the application itself (most likely), a bug in wine's networking or filename
handling...
After having a look at that, I tested wether a simple thing like ping does work.
I used the freeware program 'hs-ping' - by HollerSoft, found in a software
database at t-online.de. It does work to ping loopback and any other host.
I also tried hr-ping, which did not work, but I did not want to investigate that.
The point is: Networking works, as I also see wine's logs: Mankind can create a
socket, resolve a hostname, connect to it and receive data.
Im now wondering about 'wsaErrno errno 11' and the 'to (nil) in 'WSASendTo
socket 0010, wsabuf 0x7d64e060, nbufs 1, flags 0, to (nil), tolen 0, ovl (nil),
func (nil)'.
Does this work as expected?

Hi, I uploaded a new copy of the source with the missing files.
I do have the VCL source and have looked at it, but have not been able to find
the exact spot that is causing the problem.
When the AV occurs in WINE the command line does not show any error at all, so i
don't know how I can debug it further on the Linux side. There is a product
called MadExcept for Delphi that provides much more detailed error messages when
a AV occurs, I guess I could try that. Or is there a way to make wine have more
verbose messages when a exe is run from the command line?

it still immediately crashes if I press return after adding a small and then two

By chance i found out that it does not crash if I first just enter a single

Wine now crashes if I remove the focus from the Derive-windows and give the
focus back later. (Just pressing alt-tab)

Money 2004 ran well in version 0.9.9 (but with bugs - see Wine Application DB

This is the second time Wine has regressed to not running Money. It is a real
problem as I want to migrate more to Linux but cannot if Money is not available

Just tested the Broodwar Battle.net with ubuntu 6.06 (kernel version 2.6.15-23-386)
and the wine 0.9.15 and it now connects and you can join games, though the
problems described in Bug 2467 are still there.
So I would recommend, at least if it works for other people with other
distributions as well to declare this bug as fixed, since the other problems are
already described in Bug 2467.

It shouldn't be trying to access accessor.cab. Copying a cabinet there isn't
going to do anything but try to extract files from the wrong cabinet. Even if
you proceed past accessor.cab its going to be trying to extract the files from
the wrong cabinet file the entire install, as it returns the wrong LastSequence
# in the query. Your always going to be reading from the first install medium
the entire installation as the query/logic is broken.

I have created a test case exe built with Delphi 2006 SP2
To reproduce this bug, click the create form button, then click the set border
style button and the AV will pop every time.
The interesting part is the forms border does get changed, if you then click the
show form button the form will be shown without it's border.
this leads me to believe it should be an easy fix.
A try except around the statement "form.borderstyle:=bsnone" that takes no
action prevents the AV from being shown to the user.

If you set version to win98, the install proceeds successfully. Note that this
is just a workaround for the bug, as the install should work for any version of
windows (especially our default, win2000). Now we just have to find out what
it's doing differently because of the version difference (or do a git bisect as
mentioned before).

Windows peek at registry access when running
May help with debugging, though the licensing scheme looks like it may be using
the windows licensing system, and I have no idea how wine handles that.
In .CSV format, sequentially, filtered for Explorer access.
It also looks like (Based on the demo) the application would be easy to
repackage for linux with a native linux driver in binary form. Pretty Please?

1. fire up winecfg

3. double click on the 2nd header separator (the one which ends drive path column)
in order to autosize drive path column
You will see that drive paths column is not repainted.
Double clicking on the 1st separator (in order to autosize drive letters column)
works correctly for me.

This bug is a COM/OLE automation bug. Installing DCOM and setting the dll
overrides to ole32,oleaut32,rpcrt4=n lets the installer install all the files

The original CreateService bug has been fixed, but there is one last bug keeping
the Oracle Client installer from working (on some machines). In msi, we set the
property 'PhysicalMemory' by calling GlobalMemoryStatusEx and wsprintf'ing the
total memory reported into a string. On a machine with enough ram, >2gb, the
integer value is overflowing into the negatives and when the installer checks if
we have at least 256mb of ram, it bails out because we're reporting a negative
amount. I have a patch for this that I'll send shortly.

Well, if no one is working on this I think I can cope with this.

This bug is invalid. For one, there can't be a regression in the installer,
because before very recently, ie6setup.exe didn't work at all with all builtin
dlls. You're probably thinking about how it looked using native
advpack/comctl32/etc. If IE6 setup doesn't install Flash and it should be able
to, it's more than likely because the Component Selection screen isn't shown.
The missing animation is possibly a bug, and the missing component selection is
possibly a bug, but these need to be filed as individual bugs, and don't mark
them as regression, because it's never worked before. Also, don't associate
running native internet explorer with installing internet explorer in future
bugs; they are two completely different things.

With Wine set to emulate WinXP, the text to speech installer does run.
So that leaves two problems, one of which is an install failure

I tried it just now, and didn't see the "install fails" bug.
I did see three problems:
1. As EA Durbin noted, after the unzip finishes, it tries to
launch the app, but fails. But the name it tries to launch
is triali~1.exe. (It does this even on Windows XP.) Wine
can't find the file:
0009:Call kernel32.SearchPathW(00000000,7fd644c8 L"triali~1.exe",7fa45480
L".exe",00000100,7fb9d69c,00000000) ret=7fa22695

trace:file:RtlGetFullPathName_U (L"Z:\\home\\dank\\installers\\triali~1.exe" 520

warn:file:wine_nt_to_unix_file_name L"triali~1.exe" not found in
/home/dank/.wine/dosdevices/z:/home/dank/installers
trace:file:RtlDosPathNameToNtPathName_U (L".\\triali~1.exe",0x7fb9c444,(nil),(nil))
trace:file:RtlGetFullPathName_U (L".\\triali~1.exe" 520 0x7fb9c204 (nil))
warn:file:wine_nt_to_unix_file_name L"triali~1.exe" not found in
/home/dank/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/temp
which is wrong (unless we really don't support short names anymore).
2. Microsoft text-to-speech wasn't installed at all, or at least,
it didn't give me a choice of whether to install it, like it does
under real Windows.
3. When you run the app, you get a big blue screen that pops
in front of everything, and you can't quit (except with ctl-alt-backspace).
This has been happening since Jan 2005, see
http://www.redhat.com/archives/k12osn/2005-January/msg00590.html
So it's pretty much no joy for me here. Guess I'll try installing
as winxp and see if that helps.

Ok I intalled a fresh copy of Ubuntu 6.06 on my new PC. First, I tried the
official ubuntu Wine 0.9.9 package, which worked fine. Then, I upgraded to the
winehq 0.9.14 package. Still worked fine. Next, I installed arts, and now when I
click the audio tab winecfg crashes with:
Creating link /home/adrian/.kde/socket-aids.
can't create mcop directory
Which is obviously because I have arts installed, but I don't have kde. I can't
reproduce the Unhandled exception error I had before without installing kde,
which I don't want to do at the moment. Sorry I can't help you any further,
perhaps someone who uses kubuntu would be better suited.
On a side note, is there any reason why wine has it's own apt repository? Why
not use the ubuntu universe one?

You're looking for WINEPREFIX env. var.
man wine :
[...]
WINEPREFIX
If set, the content of this variable is taken as the name of the
directory where wine stores its data (the default is $HOME/.wine
). This directory is also used to identify the socket which is
used to communicate with the wineserver. All wine processes
using the same wineserver (i.e.: same user) share certain things
like registry, shared memory, and config file. By setting
WINEPREFIX to different values for different wine processes, it
is possible to run a number of truly independent wine processes.
[...]
Thus :
wine --confdir ~/.wine.hostA whatever.exe -> WINEPREFIX=~/.wine.hostA whatever.exe
wine --confdir ~/.wine.hostB whatever.exe -> WINEPREFIX=~/.wine.hostB whatever.exe

PROBLEM
In NFS mounted systems each user shares the common directory.
The problem is that changing host, means that the ~/.wine created in another
host cannot be used.
host A -+
+------ NFS host sharing /home/foo
host B -+
SUGGESTION
Provide --confdir argument which would set the correct configuration directory.
This way it would be possible to run:
wine --confdir ~/.wine.hostA
wine --confdir ~/.wine.hostB

When opening a file in Nautilus (Gnome's filemanager) that is associated with a
windows program installed with wine (SPSS 11.0), this windows program says it
can't open "ome/username/Desktop/subdir/file.sav". It says this while it should
be "/home/...", this is not typo. I guess this might be something like gnome
passes "file:///home/..." and wine wants to translate this into "Z://home..."
but the parser is somewhat broken or misses some bits or requires another format ?

My analysis of this bug is wrong, and it turns out that wine's msi is doing the
right thing in not installing the files that aren't installed. The components
for the files not being installed have the following condition:
(Version9X OR (VersionNT AND ((VersionNT < 500) OR ((VersionNT >= 500) AND
INSTALLPFILES))))
According to the traces, VersionNT is 500, so we're in the VersionNT >= 500
case. INSTALLPFILES does not exist anywhere in the msi file, and the only way
to set it is on the command line e.g. 'wine Setup.exe INSTALLPFILES=1'. The
reason INSTALLPFILES must be specified on VersionNT >= 500 is because these
files should already exist on these version of Windows. So the real bug is that
we don't provide these dlls out of the box, but in the meantime you can install
the files using the INSTALLPFILES=1 option. I'm thinking about marking this bug
as invalid, unless anyone has any objections. Thanks to Mike for helping me
analyze the real bug.

This issue is not simple to fix:
The "Gerneral" Property-Sheet (where you can select the Printer) is located in
comdlg32.dll,
the other default Propety-Sheets (Layout and Paper/Quality) are located in
compstui.dll.
More Property-Sheets can come from the Application
(IE uses this: "Selected Frame only" or "List of Links" as examples) and
from the Printer-Driver (through winspool.dev,DocumentPropertySheets).
The Printer-Driver is also able to replace the default Property-Sheets.
In the W2K-Layout of the PrintDlgEx* - Dialog, the default Property-Sheets
(Layout and Paper/Quality) are displayed in the same Dialog as the
General-Page and the other Pages.
The Layout on WinXP is a bit different: The default Property-Sheets
(Layout and Paper/Quality) are not present in the Default Dialog.
The user need to Press a "Preferences" - Button on the "General" - Page
and then a new Dialog with the default Property-Sheets is opened.
Help from someone, who knows the Magic behind Dialogs would be great.

This is wrong. Presumably you meant to add the other bugs to the "blocks" list,
not the depends list, but that's wrong too. Unless you really understand what's
going on, and are not just relying on what somebody said on a mailing list,
don't open these kind of bugs as it just confuses the issue and wastes other
people's time.

Running dotnetfx.exe, the installer states that you need to have Microsoft
Windows Installer 3.0 and Internet Explorer 5.01 installed, and you have to exit
if they're not installed. To fix this without using native dlls, we need to
advertise (the way dotnetfx.exe wants to see it) that IE and Windows Installer
(msi?) are installed. After that, we can keep testing this. In the meantime,
installing the respective apps lets the install proceed.

The files are not installed during setup because our MoveFiles msi action is not
implemented. MoveFiles differs from InstallFiles in that MoveFiles will locate
already existing files in the system and move (install) those files to another
destination, whereas InstallFiles just copies files listed in the File table to
a destination directory. This bug can be identified by installers that extract
all install files to a temp directory, say from a zip file, and then run the
setup application. This should be fixed once the MoveFiles action is
implemented in msi.

I think I know what's happening here.
I've explained in detail at http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4009#c22
Summary of that comment: The main window passed to SetCooperativeLevel has a
child window that obscures all of it. Wine's ddraw does not draw to the area
obscured by child windows. Presumably Windows' ddraw does. I do not have the
skills needed to do anything about that.

WINEDEBUG=+win log
Ok, it finally occurred to me to get a +win log, and I'm pretty sure I
understand this now. No more guesswork.
The window passed to SetCooperativeLevel is called "Worms Armageddon"
(0x10028). While the menu is showing, this window has some child windows
representing controls on the screen. The heiarchy looks something like this:
0x10028 "Worms Armageddon"
`-0x10023 "#32770"
|- Single player button
|- Hotseat game button
|- Quit button
`- etc.
The immediate child is destroyed and a new one is created every time the
"layout" of the menu changes. Its size is always the same as Worms Armageddon's
size, and it always obscures the entire window.
Someone (I don't know if it's the game or Wine doing this) appears to check
which window the mouse is on whenever it moves. The result is always a child of
Worms Armageddon.
I tried the demo of Diablo (see bug 2082), and it follows the same pattern: a
main window passed to SetCooperativeLevel, a child window the same size, and
child controls on that window. It also has the same problem, fixed by the same
hack (yay Byte).
Since the hwnds appear to be the same every time, I tried modifying ddraw to
draw to 0x10023, the immediate child of Worms Armageddon. The menu showed up
fine (this is a little odd; I expected only part of the menu to show up and
part of it to be obscured by that window's children).
So the problem seems to be that ddraw is drawing to the area of the SCL window
that isn't obscured by children. I don't know why it's doing this. It already
uses a call to GetDCEx without the DCX_CLIPCHILDREN flag. I also don't know how
to make a test for this or correct the problem.

Windows Installer 3.1 installation bails out early with a MessageBox error
"Unable to find a volume for file extraction. Please verify that you have
proper permissions." I'll attach the significant portion of the log. The
installer is calling QueryDosDeviceW and searching the returned drive string for
either 'harddisk' or 'ramdisk', which we don't have. Our drive is drive_c. The
check fails, and the installer errors out. One possible fix is to change the
name of our c: drive to harddiskvolume1, like Windows does, or at least
something that has 'harddisk' in the drive name. Hans Leidekker has provided
such a patch [1].

The problem is that the installer calls MsiSetComponentState on the component
"REGISTRY.tcl", which is an unknown component if you ask wine's msi (seems to
work fine with native). Running the python msi with the Oracle msi verifier
reveals that this component is a part of the component table, but does not
belong to a feature in the feature table. This might be why we can't find the
component.

Summary: Photoshop CS2 install fails.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.14.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Xordan(a)gmail.com
The photoshop CS2 installer crashes when I try and proceed from the last stage
before file copy. Will attach a log with the console output. There seems to be
quite a few 'fixme' but also a few errors which I'm not sure are related or not.
I also don't see another bug report about this versions installer either.

I agree Vitaliy that this bug is invalid, because the method of install you used
is not reproducable. You should use the Photoshop CS2's install to install it,
then report bugs on the problems you find with that.

Ok, I am home and I've rerun the test and output to a log, not sure why I didn't
think of that originally,,, I blame it on Saturday night, heh. In any case, the
log was a whopping 327MB but thankfully compressed down to only 17MB.

Mike, I hope this gives you what you need... the PC I am on at the moment is
limited to 100,000 lines of history. Please let me know if you need me to redo
this when I get home. Boy were right about this making it slow, heh.

Not a blocker. Probably a dup or even invalid.
AppDB has reports of it working. But you probably have not copied all the
relevant registry entries.
Do NOT:
- change severity (seems you have no idea what it means)
- mark bugs as new (leave that for some one else to verify
- change priority (actually do one looks at it)

The following is a quote from another test report by Mark Gallina in extra comments:
"I was impatient and tried playing immediately after Diablo II installed without
patching or installing the expansion pack. I received the dreaded "Access
Violation Error Cx0000000005" which used to be caused with some newer CD drives.
Since my machine was built years after DII was released, I think that was the
problem. Once I installed LoD the game ran fine without a hitch."
Based on his report, this may be a hardware compatibility issue resolved by a
patched Diablo 2. If I am unable to reproduce with 1.00, I may resolve this bug.
Since I believe this is 1.00, I updated the summery. Will update later.

Hi, when I try to run Photoshop CS2 (copied from my windows install, so I
haven't tested the installer) the program starts to load up and then it freezes,
printing this output hundreds of times in the console (never seems to end actually);
err:shell:HCR_GetFolderAttributes HCR_GetFolderAttributes should be called for
simple PIDL's only!
I'm not sure what other output I can give, especially as I don't completely know
what this error means :) Maybe someone here does though.
Thanks.

Summary: Library initialisation crash with USER and X11DRV
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, source
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hallo(a)michael-kaufmann.ch
This simple program crashes Wine:
#include "windows.h"
int main(int argc, char * argv[])
{
static const WCHAR szDisplayW[] = { 'D','I','S','P','L','A','Y','\0' };
HDC dc = CreateDCW(szDisplayW, NULL, NULL, NULL);
DeleteDC(dc);
return 0;
}
This happens:
- CreateDCW wants to load X11DRV
- USER attaches to the process and registers its builtin window classes. It
also loads a cursor for a window class
- LoadCursor calls CreateDCW again
- This time Wine thinks that X11DRV is already loaded
- CreateDCW calls X11DRV_XRender_Init() which uses the variable gdi_display.
But this variable is uninitialized because X11DRV's DllMain has not been
called.
I hope that somebody can help.

Sorry, I don't have a clue why the patch is breaking the installer for you. A
good start would be a +msi,+msidb debug log.

You not runinng it correctly.
Most programs can't cope with that path that you used.
Instead you should _always_ cd into program's dir and run it from there.
To make it even closer to native, use full windows path:
cd /home/andrew/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/DAZ/Studio
wine 'c:\Program Files\DAZ\Studio\DAZStudio.exe"
And please before reporting bugs make sure that you running latest version. It
could be fixed already. Or broken even more. <g>
