Looks like you're using native advpack, which isn't necessary anymore to install
IE6. Either change the settings in winecfg to use builtin advpack, or remove
your .wine directory and start fresh with wineprefixcreate.

The icon that is created on the desktop, by the way, starts the launcher just

removing the dinput=n repeats the original error (I tried this because this last

The problem here is that overlay surfaces and related pixel formats aren't
supported. The failing assertion is just a symptom of the real problem. That
vlc starts with my code is just because such an assertion isn't there, but not
because the bug is fixed. The next problem, the blue video, is because the
whole video is missing and just some blue background is shown.

In your case it seems something crashes/locksup. Could you run it with +tid and
check if it is multithreaded?
Also enable some more traces (around x11drv) to see what it's waiting on?

You can't avoid this even with native...
But Wine has WINEPREFIX that you can use to isolate separate applications.
Please enable "synchronous" trace channel with some others to see what fails for
you. Check things like bitmap sizes that could be too big/invalid.

That you have 3/1 GB memory split (user/kernel).
That your video drivers properly installed and configured.
That you have all the correct access to what you are planning on using (like DRI
which is absolete now).

On your wiki page you said you installed Wine and winetools. Please remove
winetools and forget about them.
Make sure that Wine's fonts are correct (run notepad, and check "SYSTEM" and "MS
Sans Serif" fonts). If they are invisible - then you have bad fonts and need to
recompile Wine from source.
Upgrade to Wine 0.9.13. Then remove ~/.wine directory and try installing program
again.

GetMenuItemCount() fails to return the proper menu count when you pass a HMENU
for a menu that's associated with a window in a different process. Attached is
a minimal test case where behavior when querying a menu in-process and out-of-
process can be compared.
Run as:
menu_iteration_test.exe <-- out of process
menu_iteration_test.exe inprocess <-- in process
On Windows, both result in printing the menu items. In Wine, the first one
gives a menu item count of -1.

Same application on bug 4897 but different bug. readme.txt has overview and run
instructions.
With git of 2006-04-21 things were ok with this app. I have upgraded xorg at
6.9.9-5.6.2006mdkdrivers for my unicrome built in video and it seems to still
have bugs. After the wine-0.9.13 updates it now crashes without a console error
and leaves winedvm and wineserver running after control C at console.
Prior to tag 0.9.13 I did get an exception of out of resources trying to make a
window but I can not duplicate it. tried a regression test and can nolonger get
the kpn1.exe to run. Other Delphi 1 apps still run.
I am looking into getting a video card to see if it is xorg related. I can make
X crash with KDE or icewm when I run some apps with wine or do panning in native
qcad or eagle cad.
If I can get a works for me I will upgrade my video card.

There is a problem with "File/Open File" :
I can't select tree/directories with the mouse

Thank you,

Note: There is also a free compressor limited

Dmitry, you are right, I checked it in Windows. Currently the message test
(dlls/user/tests/msg.c) does not contain such ShowWindow tests: with WS_CHILD
style, min/maximization/restoration, with invisible parent, hence I earlier
missed that. With other SW_ parameters, like SW_SHOW, calling SetWindowPos is
blocked.
In a sense, it simplifies matter: (in ShowWindow) with invisible parent, the
SetWindowPos (sending the messages) should be called when the state of the
window (min/maximized/restored) has changed, regardless of whether it is
WS_CHILD or WS_EX_MDICHILD, or something else.
Perhaps you can submit a patch to add your tests to msg.c?

Sorry, ies4linux's configuration needs to be updated. As we change the way
configuration works, 3rd party tools may break, and that is a fact of life. We
don't encourage people to use 3rd party tools such as ies4linux and winetools
exactly because they break alot.

Summary: Internet Explorer doesnt work (shlwapi and shdocvw
error)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.12.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-winelib
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: s.marechal(a)jejik.com
None of the Internet Explorers will work anymore on the latest version of Wine.
I have tried the ies4linux package that gives me IE5, IE5.5 and IE6 (from
http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/) but they all die with the same error
message. I have also tried the Internet Explorer in Wine itself (by running
"wine iexplore") but it dies as well.
The IE in wine did seem to work in the beginning. A popup came up telling me I
needed the Mozilla ActiveX component. It installed, but after that IE dies. I
quickly see a frame of the main window pop up but it goes away instantly.
I'll attach the output of Wine in two attachments.

Bernd, by comparing my pseudo-code and your log you can see that I ignored
C-string escape-mechanism in my mind. If you want to tell a backslash in C, you
should put a double-backslash:
| 0009:trace:file:CreateFileW L"\\\\.\\D:" GENERIC_READ FILE_SHARE_READ
| FILE_SHARE_WRITE creation 3 attributes 0x0
So you need to correct this in your code, I am afraid. Thanks for testing
WinAPI, you're quicker than me.
Cheers:)
(though Vitaliy may not agree with the usefullness of testing this part)

Regression testing shows the commit that broke the installer was:
ntdll: Fix size check for NtQueryInformationToken(TokenGroups).
So it _is_ a duplicate. IMHO it would have been handier to revert this patch
before the wine-0.9.13 release. I guess we get a lot of these bug reports with
failing installers with wine-0.9.13 now....

Problem:
There is at least one instance in Quicken 2005 where there is a window that pops
up and resizes constantly from it's normal size to about 100px square, see the
url for an image of the small window. You can also see how big it should be at
http://murray.no-ip.org/big_split_window.png (the contents of the window is
mostly the desktop background, I think because it is resized before it finishes
drawing the contents.
Steps to Re-Create:
Open Quicken 2005. Select an account (create if needed), select a check
(create..), push the split button in the bottom right of the check entry.

When winecfg creates an entry such as this:
[Software\\Wine\\AppDefaults\\win31app.exe]

into user.reg, wine does not "see" it on execution. It used to work in alpha
20050725 (I haven't tried any versions in between).
Proof (pr1.exe is a Windows 3.1 app, lexibase.exe is a Win32 app). I have the
following in my user.reg:
[Software\\Wine\\AppDefaults\\lexibase.exe] 1124807597
"Version"="winxp"
[Software\\Wine\\AppDefaults\\pr1.exe] 1124807597

And here is the result when executing the following:
[saudet@vaio PR1]$ export WINEDEBUG=all
[saudet@vaio PR1]$ wine pr1.exe 2>&1 | grep "getting version"
(i.e.: nothing is displayed)
[saudet@vaio exe]$ export WINEDEBUG=all
[saudet@vaio exe]$ wine lexibase.exe 2>&1 | grep "getting version"

So it seems something is not working right in version.c or somewhere near

If it works on Windows but not Wine, then it's a bug - regardless of whether

Wine compiled with -Os optimization flag crashes when loading some native dlls.
Using git bisect I've tracked it down to this recent commit:
Alexandre Julliard: ntdll: Add wrappers for the string functions.

+loaddll,+module,+imports log and backtrace attached.
You can see from the backtrace that the top of the stack is corrupted. I tried
to single-step to the crash, and it happens on a TRACE_() in fixup_imports().
When I step by single instructions, I see that it enters wine_dbg_log@PLT and
next segfaults - I think that the relocation table or whatever this @PLT thing
uses gets overwritten with ASCII data at some previous stage.
When I comment out these TRACE_()s or compile without -Os, everything works
fine.

Summary: Visual Basic App: Runtime error after "redim preserve"
(OLEAUT32 bug)
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download, source
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: hallo(a)michael-kaufmann.ch
This Visual Basic code works fine on Windows. On Wine, this message appears:
"Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range". It also works with native oleaut32.
Global A() As Integer
Sub Main()
ReDim Preserve A(1 To 3, 1 To 4) As Integer
A(1, 1) = 100
A(3, 4) = 200
ReDim Preserve A(1 To 3, 1 To 5) As Integer
A(1, 1) = 300
A(3, 5) = 400
MsgBox "OK"
End Sub
This code creates a two-dimensional array and resizes the second dimension of
the array. The content of the array is copied to the resized array ("preserve"
keyword).
I'll attach the executable. It needs MSVBVM60.DLL. Download it here:

The runtime installer works, but it doesn't show the "copying files" window. The
bug is probably in Wine's setupapi.dll.

Summary: Rhapsody Plugin in Firefox 1.5 cannot connect to its
server, but works with native WININET
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.12.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.rhapsody.com
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-net
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jathey(a)comcast.net
On Linux, the Rhapsody plugin for Firefox only works on Firefox 1.0.x, not on
1.5.x. However, the plugin does work in Firefox 1.5.x on Windows, so I
downloaded and installed Firefox 1.5.2 in Wine.
With stock Wine 0.9.12, after I enter my username and password, the login fails
with invalid user name or password. At the same time, the following messages
appear on the console:
fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW Option INTERNET_OPTION_CONNECT_TIMEOUT (30000):
STUB
fixme:wininet:INET_QueryOptionHelper Stub! 2
fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW INTERNET_OPTION_SEND/RECEIVE_TIMEOUT not
supported on protocol 4
fixme:wininet:INET_QueryOptionHelper Stub! 6
If I start Firefox with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="wininet=n" and WININET.DLL from
Windows 2000 (version 6.00.2800.1485), Rhapsody works great. In fact, I'm
listening to music from Rhapsody right now using this workaround.
This bug strongly resembles http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4992.
Anyone can test this, since Rhapsody offers a free membership where you are
given a few free song plays.

------- Additional Comments From m.goemmel(a)compulab.de 2006-10-05 04:17 -------
Eric mailed me this some time ago, so I post it here before it gets totally
lost:
the normal way of working is:
- the client references an object in the server (thru a windows-socket, which
is in fact a server handle)
- the server in its object references the unix-socket (fd)
however, some wait operations are done in the client by:
- retrieving from the server the unix-fd
- waiting on that unix-fd
what happens in your case is:
- server has a unix-fd opened on the socket
- client get one copy of the unix-fd (to wait on)
- client blocks on it (select)
- another thread (client) closes the windows-socket
- another thread closes the handle (from socket)
- server is called, and object is destroyed in server, hence closing the unix-
fd (from server)
at this point,
- the windows object in server for the socket is destroyed
- but the unix object (in unix kernel) is not destroyed as there's still a
reference to it (thru a unix-fd) (the one used in the select)
Thanks
Markus

Sorry about that backtrace Vitaliy, I just noticed the comment up top. I think
I may have created a duplicate bug with
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4524
for Skype 2.0 production release. It appears this client just enables video
support when a call is placed instead of right when it starts. It doesn't
matter if you disable video support in your Preferences or not. I think just
probing for it causes this error. As the other bug, this can be fixed by using
Win98 or lesser mode, however in this client, this causes the menus to cease
working, which I'll post another bug on.
I'll recompile Wine with debug information and post back.

I runned SPSS and do some testing. Then SPSS crashed. After several crashes,
SPSS cannot be started again:
$ wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/SPSS/spsswin.exe
I receive NO OUTPUT AT ALL (in console or graphical). After some time SPSS can
be normallly runned. However, it seems that wine is working:
$ wine
Usage: wine PROGRAM [ARGUMENTS...] Run the specified program
wine --help Display this help and exit
wine --version Output version information and exit

With wine built from cvs, this has been happening
a lot. I just got it to happen four times in a row
by going to news.com and picking the Google Calendar review.
'Course, now it isn't happening. Probably some flash ad rotated out of the way.

Just so you know, I had a look at what the SUSE folks are doing about HAL and
it seems that they are aware of the issues that they having with it -
including the fact that it causes problems for wine. They've been doing some
changes to how HAL works in SUSE and it appears that they haven't got them all
sorted out yet. Either way, as far as SUSE users are concerned this problem
will likely be resolved soon.
Thanks for the info on HAL. I'd never even heard of it. You learn something
new every day.

I am using the latest git and getting a configure warning about hal.
from ./configure
Package hal was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `hal.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'hal' found

My HAL is 0.4.8 a May 2005 release.
What is the minimum required version of HAL?
If things go the way the fontforge change over went it could break things. Some
distributions don't seem to have a new enough hal with devlopment libs
available. So if wine 0.9.13 requires HAL to run and build it will cause
problems. But it seems mandriva 2006 does not remap CD mount points like the
newer distros that casuse some problems.

Now run regedit and look for the key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.XMLDOM\CLSID
there should be a (Default) entry in the right pane with the value
{2933BF90-7B36-11d2-B20E-00C04F983E60}
Then look further for the key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2933BF90-7B36-11d2-B20E-00C04F983E60}
What do you see in there?
Your log clearly indicates a problem with those settings.
Although fixing them dosen't neccessarily make your game run properly.

I think you missunderstood. wine-0.9.12 does not have support for HAL. It's
currently in source tree only. And will be available with 0.9.13.
If you want to compile Wine from source then you will need lots of development
packages to make Wine use everything it can work with.
