to make Wine on BSD setup the address space a bit more nicely.

To me, it does not look like an exact duplicate. The problem occurs with a
single player game just the same as with a mulitplayer game (I do use TCP/IP
multiplayer, but not BattleNet).
The game itself runs rock stable. Playing for 6 to 8 hours is no problem. I
can host the game or connect to the game. There is no problem with the startup
of the game or with making connection. There is no problem with viewing the
intro or other video sequences (all videos were copied to my HD).
The only other problem is that I do not have sound with all the last versions
(0.9.x), but I'm not sure that WINE is the source of the problem (somewhere
within the timeline I switched from SuSE 9.3 to 10.0), so I left this part
out. With earlier versions I had sound but it tended to begin to stutter after
about 40 to 50 minutes into the game an fail completely afterwards without
causing other problems. Outside the game sound was fine.
The fact that the error message is not part of WINE (which was my impression)
is interessting, but in my opinion this does not mean, WINE could not be the
"trigger" for the error making it happen. The error does not occur at any
other time in the game, it is fixed to exactly the switch from one act to the
next. In fact, no other errors do break the game, making it stop.
As I'm not very good at creating my own RPMs (I want to use RPMs because I
_never_ install software without the package manager), I'd like to get the
next packaged version instead of using the CVS version and creating my own
RPM.
I hope to find out who does the packaging for the repository, so I can contact
him/her and check if some special patches or settings are used during the
process.

When I installed 0.9.10 the Office 2000 installed properly but the programs were
crashing on startup. That issue appears to be resolved. Programs are no longer
crashing on startup. At least the installation that I made with 0.9.10. However
when I removed the .wine directory and tried to reinstall the program. The
program didn't install. So although the programs now run from a previous
installation. The installer is broken again on 0.9.11 and it doesn't install at
all.
Another thing that concerns me is I can't get IE to install. Now that may be by
design due to the fact you all want to move away from that. But it would be nice
to at least install the program since it is the most popular browser out there
right now. Being able to install it under linux so we can test websites would be
nice. That installer is broken too.
Installation programs seem to be an issue in general. The quicktime installer
doesn't work also niether does itunes. But I guess I'm getting off topic here.
I'll file another bug report for quicktime.

Summary: Wine crashed on two little games
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.8.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: franklin(a)goodhorse.idv.tw
I'm using Mandriva 2006.0, with kernel 2.6.12-12mdk.
The wine package is from Mandriva club, package name: wine-0.9.8-0.1.20060mdk
When I tried to use wine to play two little games it crashed.
You can get this game at:
http://www.goodhorse.idv.tw/2004.exehttp://www.goodhorse.idv.tw/KI2005.exe
When running 2004.exe, it first complained about lacking MSVBVM50.dll file.
Therefore I got this file from Windows 2000 windows/system32 directory and put
it to drive_c/windows/system32, then run
wine c:/windows/system32/regsvr32.exe msvbvm50.dll
It successfully registered, then I tried to run 2004.exe again.
However, this time the 2004.exe bumped a dialog saying:
Run-time error '380':
Invalid property value
Then the wine crashed and a lot of debug messages printed.
KI2005.exe has similar behavior.
The debug output (last 150 lines) for 2004.exe is at:
http://www.goodhorse.idv.tw/debug_report
and for KI2005.exe:

Make sure that you patched Wine properly. Because last error is the error that

------- Additional Comments From linux(a)travisdale.net 2006-10-04 21:12 -------
Ok, here is what I did, and here are the results:
1. I had read the first e-mail and created the symbolic links according to my
interpritation of the webpage provided as follows:
/usr/lib/ln -s libGL.so.1 libGL.so
and found I also needed this step /usr/lib/ln -s libX11.so.6 libX11.so
2. I compiled according to the second e-mail as follows:
./configure --x-includes=/usr/include/X11/ --x-libraries=/usr
3. It reported that it could not find -lXext so I performed the following step:
/usr/lib/ln -s libXext.so.6 libXext.so
4. At this point it finally compiled. When I went to run WoW.exe (the reason I
am compiling in the first place) I got an error that told me I might be using
prelink or exec-shield ( I lost the exact error sory, if you need it I can try
and reproduce it -- shouldn't be hard just time consuming).
5. I found this site:
http://www.datastat.com/sysadminjournal/linuxworkstations.html
and followed these instructions:
prelink -a -u
<< Then I editted /etc/sysconfig/prelink to have these options
PRELINK_OPTS="-m --no-exec-shield"
then I ran prelink with the following options
prelink -a -m --no-exec-shield >>
6. This resolved the prelink error and caused this error when I run WoW.exe:
rr:module:import_dll Library OPENGL32.dll (which is needed by L"Y:\\World of
Warcraft\\WoW.exe") not found
7. So I removed the libGL.so soft link I made in step one, as I have read a few
things that seemed to imply this might be the problem, re-compiled, and I now
get this error:
X Error of failed request: GLXBadContext
Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 364
Current serial number in output stream: 364
8. Which error I thought I was finally rid of with the latest ATI Livina
driver. glxgears still works.
Feel free to let me know what I did wrong and what I need to do to fix all of
these problems. I read that WoW.exe will run under wine. I appreciate any help
you can give me in getting it to run on Fedora Core 5, x86_64, xorg 7.0.0
(X11R7) and an ATI X600 Card. Thank you.

As Dan mentioned we usually run matlab on Linux--and prefer that over Windows
because we can then blast the code through our Linux clusters. In this
particular case we have m files plus C code that has to be compiled into mex
files. A DLL (for which we do not have source code) accompanies the C code so
we have to compile and link in Windows and generate a Windows mex file which is
only callable from matlab running under Windows.
Actually this is only half the story; it gets more complicated. Once matlab
(for Windows) is installed we want to use the matlab compiler, mcc, to build a
stand-alone executable and will want to run that executable under Wine. Stand-
alone matlab executables do not use matlab licenses when they run. This gives
us the freedom to run the executable on many more cluster nodes than we have
matlab licenses.
As a proof of concept, I compiled a trivial m file on a Windows machine to
create a Windows .exe then transfered that to my Linux box to run that under
Wine. That fails too but I won't file a bug for that yet (too many other
possible reasons for failure, most to do with inability to locate runtime
libraries). I'm hoping that if I have a working matlab-for-Windows in Linux,
executables generated by the mcc compiler will also run under Wine.
Yes, I'm probably nuts for expecting all of this to work but Wine has impressed
me sufficiently in the past that I actually think this can be pulled off.

Just a little bit of insite into how the original loader works and why it
crashes when it does, compared to the loader script.
The original loader and the script are functionally the same, in that they both
allow you to get on battle.net using a patched exe. The differences are that
the original is a binary .exe, while the script is done in bash, and that the
original attaches itself to the diablo process, while the script does not.
What this means for you is that when you use the loader while playing single
player, the loader does absolutely nothing, but when you click enter battle net,
it picks up on that, and does some file renaming, so that when battlenet checks
the file named Game.exe, it finds the original and get the version info from it.
The script does this file renaming automagically, regardless of single player
or battlenet, and so it does not have the same problems because it is not a part
of the diablo ii process.
My guess is that something broke in interprocess communication, since the loader
watches your clicks on the main screen, and so since the loader is attached to
diablo ii, when the loader dies due to this breakage, so does diablo ii..
Now, if anyone who watches this bug was ever able to get onto battle.net while
using the regular D2Loader.exe file under wine (doesn't matter what version of
diablo ii, nor what version of wine), please post a note saying so here, as this
is a regression, and could affect other apps. If it does turn out to be a
regression, we need to figure out what patch caused this regression, and fix it.
Hope that info clears things up for you.

Summary: unable to install Windows version of matlab v7.0.4 with
Wine
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.11.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: al.danial(a)ngc.com
CC: dank(a)kegel.com
I have a Fedora Core 4 box running Wine v0.9.11 built from source. This is a
pure Linux box, not Linux-Windows dual boot. I'm trying to install a Windows
version of matlab v7.0.4 (Release 14/service pack 3) through Wine so that I can
run a complicated set of matlab m files which invoke Windows exe's and a DLL.
Wine fails quickly on trying to run the matlab installer "setup.exe" program.
I first copied the three matlab cdroms to the Linux file system, then with
winecfg assigned a drive letter to that directory. Then I issued the command
> wine E:/Windows/7.0.4/cdrom1/setup.exe
The MathWorks splash screen for matlab v7 comes up which is encouraging.
However a few seconds later the Java error
java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException appears followed by a popup with
"Exception calling main." [OK]
Notes:
1. I doubt this install problem is matlab-version specific. If anyone can
get this to work with matlab v7.2 or matlab v2006a then I will switch to
those versions.
2. Trial versions of matlab may be had from

Well, if that bug doesn't happen in 0.9.11, I think you shouldn't worry about it
too much. Now this bug does seem to be a graphics compatibility issue with Wine
and DRI, so I would ask our graphics programmers first. I lack any knowledge
here, and don't have an affected setup.

3) download patch installer from http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/ and run it

The problem is likely related to Wine painting not working across processes and

Its not the 64-bit part, its the X11R7 part thats messing it up. Try using
./configure --x-includes=/path/to/x/includes --x-libs=/path/to/x/libs to build
your wine.
If that doesnt work, let us know

Summary: Wrong size of commdlg OpenFile dialog in radvideo.exe
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.11.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

The radvideo's (http://www.radgametools.com/down/Bink/RADTools.exe)
GetFileName95 child dialog is cut down. Run radvideo.exe and you will know,
what I mean.
I try to investigate what's wrong, but I'm stuck.
First of all it return fixme:commdlg:GetFileName95 Flags 0x00800000 not yet
implemented (OFN_ENABLESIZING) - but this is probaly irrevelant to this.
If found that size of "File Dialog" is set by the The "ArrangeCtrlPositions"
function. In this case it won't work. I fix it (set good size in this case,
but this fix is probably wrong because I don't understand function) but it
didn't help.
So, for debug I print all WM_SIZE's params in "FileOpenDlgProc95". This tell
me that, ArrangeCtrlPositions works well but it occurs anothers window
resizing (4). First two are wrong, third are OK and last is wrong. I can't see
any code responsible for this additional "resizes". Directy they are caused by
WM_MOVE or WM_WINDOWPOSCHANGED. They occurs after end of WM_INITDIALOG.
I suspect that somwhere is some a ugly workaround for broken
ArrangeCtrlPositions which set inital width to dialog, instead counted by this
function.

This is by design. Wine's goal is to use builtin dlls in place of native for all
implemented dlls.
The very notion of *=native is absurd - then you should be using 100% native ==
windowze.
All the tools that you are talking about will have to change and not use this
setting anymore.

It looks like there were two bugs in x11drv/clipboard.c:
1) intern_atoms() had not been called after most of
firefox's formats were registered, so they didn't have X atoms.
2) wine was protecting itself against crashing due to BadAtom
errors on zero atoms when looking at the list of selection type atoms it *sent*,
but not when looking at the list of selection type atoms it *received*.
I'm attaching a somewhat tested patch that deals with both problems.
Another nice way to reproduce the problem is:
1) start firefox
2) select some html text and copy
3) start windows notepad
4) paste
Bammo, BadAtom error without this patch.

Several 3rd-party utilities, winetools, ies4linux, et. al. are broken when used
alongside wine-CVS. Specifically, the registry DLLOVERRIDES setting of
"*"="native, builtin" no longer works. It is being ignored. Instead, builtin
DLLs are always being used unless specified. Example:
With this setting of...
"*"="native,builtin"
Further native declares should not be necessary, as in:
"shlwapi"="native"
"urlmon"="native"
but they are necessary in any version of 0.9.11 or else builtin dlls will be
used. Is this a bug or was "*"="native, builtin" not intended to work in the
first place?

successfully, however before even getting to the menu the game crashes with the
attached debug output.
I'm running Wine .9.11 compiled with gcc 3.4.5 on a fairly current 32-bit Gentoo
install (but an Athlon 64 processor) with the FEAR demo installer from the URL
above. The DLLs were copied from an XP installation, but are also available online.

without patch you provided it plays for some time (2-3 minutes), then sounds get
garbled and sometimes it sounds as if it would be played in incorrect speed and
then this critical section problem appears
with patch sounds get garbled and all these audible problems remain, but
critical section problem will disappear. only err:wave i found in log was
'err:wave:DSDB_CreateMMAP checks initialized.', so no help here
i also tried to set audio to another system, with ess it didn't worked (sound

i hope it will help, if nothing else then it is easier to test with this app,

After downloading "sltg_dispatch.diff" file I start with command:
patch -p0 < sltg_dispatch.diff
in wine source root directory.
I got question about path and file name - I wrote full path to file
"typelib.c" and there was not any error messages.
Next I start compilation and installation with command:

Attached file was produced by command:

Hello,
I've tried "Baldurs Gate 1.1.4315" under Suse10.0 (64bit) with the rpm from
sf.net. Everytime I save the game (explicit or implicit), wine crashes without a
warning. Searching broght to daylight, that the distributed.net client I'm
running (v2.9011-496-CFR-05060815)(64bit/linux) seems to be involved somehow.
I disabled the client and wine crashed only once in that way (in 10 hours
playtime). After that I configured the distributed.net client to flush its
out-buffers, which made wine crash not so often. But it crashes still...
Do you have an idea?

I hope this isn't a duplicate, but I couldn't find a solution anywhere
(including here) so I'm opening this one.
I am running x86_64 Fedora Core 5, Kernel 2.6.16-1.2080_FC5 on a 7510GX Gateway
Laptop with an AMD64 CPU and an ATI X600 GPU, including the ATI graphics drivers
from: http://rpm.livna.org/fedora/testing/5/x86_64/
First, I was was working from the directions provided here:
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=4031
I made it as far as running ./configure, when it failed I also tried
./tools/wineinstall.
When I ran ./tools/wineinstall or ./configure I got this warning:
*** Warning: X development files not found. Wine will be built without
*** X support, which currently does not work, and would probably not be
*** what you want anyway. You will need to install devel packages of
*** Xlib/Xfree86 at the very least.
I have installed all developement packages I can find and I still get the error.
I did find this site: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Beats/Xorg
Which told me about this:
The /usr/X11R6/ Directory Hierarchy
X11R7 files install into /usr directly now, and no longer use the /usr/X11R6/
hierarchy. Applications that rely on files being present at fixed paths under
/usr/X11R6/, either at compile time or run time, must be updated. They should
now use the system PATH, or some other mechanism to dynamically determine where
the files reside, or alternatively to hard code the new locations, possibly with
fallbacks.
I tried to continue a few times despite this warning but wine, even though it
installed, failed to execute.
Thanks for any help.

I think I have another way to reproduce it, though it's not
reliable:
1) install windows firefox 1.5
2) in windows firefox, select some html text and do Edit/Copy
3) in wine, do something that uses the clipboard, e.g.
in wine/dlls/user/tests, run wine user32_test.exe.so clipboard
or run wine's notepad and try to use 'find'.
Sometimes if you have +clipboard set, you'll see
trace:clipboard:X11DRV_CLIPBOARD_QueryAvailableData Type 4,Format 32,nItems 14,
Remain 0
before the error. Most of the items returned are atom 0, which is invalid,
and causes the BadAtom error later in XGetAtomNames.
4) To get a stack backtrace, do
WINEDEBUG=+synchronous winedbg user32_test.exe.so clipboard
This should yield something like this trace from wine notepad:
...
3 0x7f231cea _XError+0xf4 in libx11.so.6 (0x7f231cea)
4 0x7f23229e _XReply+0x185 in libx11.so.6 (0x7f23229e)
5 0x7f212c7d XGetAtomNames+0x131 in libx11.so.6 (0x7f212c7d)
6 0x7f315cfd X11DRV_CLIPBOARD_InsertSelectionProperties+0x17b(properties=<register
not in topmost frame>) [/home/dank/wine/dlls/x11drv/clipboard.c:1788]

7 0x7f3182ae X11DRV_CLIPBOARD_UpdateCache+0x3e6(lpcbinfo=<register
not in topmost frame>) [/home/dank/wine/dlls/x11drv/clipboard.c:1911]
in winex11 (0x7f3182ae)
8 0x7f3187a8 X11DRV_IsClipboardFormatAvailable+0x28(wFormat=0x1)
[/home/dank/wine/dlls/x11drv/clipboard.c:2498] in winex11 (0x7f3187a8)
9 0x7f6c30f9 IsClipboardFormatAvailable+0x25(wFormat=0x1)
[/home/dank/wine/dlls/user/clipboard.c:583] in user32 (0x7f6c30f9)
...
As near as I can tell, sometimes windows firefox under wine
returns bogus atoms when another wine app asks it what types it
supports in the clipboard.
I'll attach a patch that works around it for me by simply
ignore atom 0. This is not likely to be a full fix if it's even
right at all, but I think it helps me.

There is now a script on the internet that will load the Diablo II cracked exe,
and substitutes in oplace of the d2Loader, so that you can get on battlenet.
This script can be used also for starcraft, as long as you edit it so that it
points to starcraft instead of diablo ii...
I can't link to it from here, but just google for "Linux D2Loader" and it shoudl
be the first hit.

I have confirmed with Toni Spets that the D2Loader-1.11b.exe executable type is
the cause of the problem. This is not a problem of Diablo 2. The following is
his message:
To be more exact this bug happens only with the original D2Loader (as
you know it) and it's still there as for cvswine few days ago. I don't
have the time to compile new one now.
And yes battle.net works great with my script and without (having the
cd inside).

Summary: Wine does not define CLSID_NULLRenderer
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.10.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dshow
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: it9zui001(a)sneakemail.com
When writing a simple program to test direct-show filters, I wanted to test the
filter without dealing with the output. The logincal answer is to use a
NULLRenderer, so my code does something like:
GUID CLSID_NULLRenderer={0xC1F400A4, 0x3F08, 0x11D3,
{ 0x9F, 0x0B, 0x00, 0x60, 0x08, 0x03, 0x9E, 0x37}};
...
CoCreateInstance(CLSID_NULLRenderer, NULL, CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER,
IID_IBaseFilter, (void**)&g_pRenderer);
g_pGraphBuilder->AddFilter(g_pRenderer, NULL);
...
g_pRenderer->EnumPins(&EnumPins);
EnumPins->Reset();
EnumPins->Next(1, &Renderer, &fetched); // renderer has only 1 pin, so
this is the pin we need
g_pGraphBuilder->Connect(Decoder_out, Renderer);
Renderer->Release();
...
However, the NullRenderer is not defined within wine. In the DirectX API, it is
defined in qedit.h, and linked from strmiids.lib
It is documented on msdn here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/directshow…
This is useful for testing codec performance through wine, as well as writing
directshow test utilities.

Summary: Inconsistent view when dragging listview columns divider
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.11.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mikolaj.zalewski(a)gmail.com
When I resize the columns of the listview by dragging the header columns
divider, the list columns scrolls after every mouse move while the header draws
only a track line and resizes only after releasing the mouse button. It seems
that this behaviour is because:
* The listview scrolls the columns after receiving the HDN_TRACK notification
even if the header doesn't have the HDS_FULLDRAG style
* The header is created without the HDS_FULLDRAG style so it is correct that
it only draws a track line.
* When the header is in the HDS_FULLDRAG mode it sends HDN_TRACK notification
and expects a TRUE answer unlike the MS implementation that sends
HDN_ITEMCHANGING and expects a FALSE answer.
I've written a patch that shows how I think it should be implemented - after
applying it the listviews are in the full drag mode but can be changed to the
tracking line mode by clearing the HDS_FULLDRAG bit - the same as for the MS
implementation. But of course I don't know if it doesn't break anything.

FFXI Setup Log in Wine 0.9.11
This same error is happening trying to install FFXI using wine 0.9.11. The
message says "Internal Error, 0x80040707." Pressing OK, the next message that
appears is "1628: Failed to complete installation." In the installshield
website (http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108464) they describe the
problem as being a problem with intallshield failing to complete script based
install. This doesn't happen with wine 0.9.10. I've checked the registry to
make sure it wasn't a registry problem.

I believe this can be considered resolved for versions of wine up to and
including 0.9.5.
Newer versions of wine on freebsd trying to run 16bit applications may need to
examine bug #5008. This new bug is undergoing regression testing to determine
the cause of application difficulties for those combinations.

Installing wine_0.9.9-winehq-1_i386.deb I get the same crash installing dcom.
(see attached)
Hence, the regression isn't in wine code, but somewhere in the run environment.
I suspect something to do with prelink, as this worked before both with 0.9.9
and 0.9.11.

It appears wine requires a newer version of fontforge. However, in configure.ac
there is no test for a particular version. Thus, if fontforge 20050502 is
installed, configure will not complain, but wine > 0.9.9 will not create usable
fonts. Therefore, it appears the resolution is to add a test to configure.ac so
that the output of fontforge --version contains 2006. This bug is resolved when
wine > 0.9.9 is built with fontforge 20060114 installed.
A simple test like this works:
# if fontforge --version | grep 2006; then echo "OK"; fi
Not sure of the best way to accomplish this in configure.ac. However, some kind
of test must be done.

Firstly, I have had ie6 setup and working before, so I'm aware of how to get it
running in normal circumstances. It's only a matter of installing dcom98. This
issue isn't specifically IE6, just that seemed the easiest way to log the bug so
it was reproducible. As above, the MozillaControl also fails, as does the dcom98
install, crashing with a "Unhandled page fault on read access"

Summary: SonEd program misses the scrollbars (and a few other
things)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.8.
Platform: PC
URL: http://stealth.emulationzone.org/SonED/

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Summary of SonEd:
SonEd is a program to view, edit and hack Sonic-related ROMs for Mega Drive/
Genesis. There are two versions: one for DOS and one for Windows. I'm talking
about Windows version.
Why it does not work:
It misses the scrollbars at right and bottom of screen (so, we can't "scroll"
the level).
Requirements to make it run:
- Must be on 16 or 32 bit color mode (24 bit color is not supported). [I hope
there is some way to make Wine report a fake color depth]
- You must have some Sonic ROM. Some ROMs require you to have also a savestate
from in-game. "Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (W) (REV01) [!].bin", however, does not
require savestate.

Closing again - whatever the problem is, it appears fixed in Wine CVS.

It is strange, I see this problem only on Wine from Fedora Extras, which is the
same as from winehq.org with only the mp3 support missing.

How does non-blocking sockets and connect timeout work? I would think if it is
using non-blocking sockets, the game would have it's own timeout by watching the
system clock by itself. If not, and it is waiting for a select call to tell it
the connect routine has been aborted, we may have a problem with it taking too
long or it being reported wrong.
In man 7 tcp, there are two tcp option for {set|get}sockopt TCP_QUICKACK or
TCP_SYNCNT that seem to be what we need to look at. But they are ugly because
they are not portable.
This should be easy to produce a test app for though.

Wine 0.9.5, built from CVS of 01-06-06, works (when patched
before ./configure) with the new application as well as the usual wine apps
(notepad) and at least some programs that come with XP pro (solitaire).
