Rhapsody has come a long way since 0.9, and with the Mozilla ActiveX control
installed, it gets all the way to asking for a username and password. (Assuming
it makes it past the race condition described here:
http://www.warpedview.com/rhapsody-on-linux/) If you try to log in, the
following messages appear on the console:
fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW Option INTERNET_OPTION_CONNECT_TIMEOUT (30000):

fixme:wininet:INET_QueryOptionHelper Stub! 2
fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW INTERNET_OPTION_SEND/RECEIVE_TIMEOUT not

fixme:wininet:INET_QueryOptionHelper Stub! 6
After a couple of seconds, Rhapsody gives up and pops up an error dialog saying,
"There was an error (122) communicating with the server. Please try again later."
There must be other applications which also depend on this functionality.

My patch is now in the Wine CVS, as is another by Alexandre that removes the

they should get a big warning message after configuring without FontForge.

Summary: MS Access - big space between lines in reports
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.11.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Marcin.Polak(a)indigo.pl
Hello, thank you for Wine, it's a Great Thing (tm).
I have a quite a big accounting application written for MS Access 2000.
Everything works fine, except one thing - in some reports, some fields have set
"Can grow" property, so the field could be automagically resized when carrying
more data (like a long description). When happens so that field should be
resized, between lines in this field there is a big space. It looks like:
line1 and text
(empty space)
(empty space)
line2 and text
and so on.
Unfortunately I cannot make Northwind reproduce this error:-(, it happens in my
application only, even if I create new empty report with one field only (but in
my application). To make things more strange, in newly created empty report,
sometimes, very seldom, it looks OK. I can offer my time and computer to build
and test other versions of Wine against this error.
This bug is independent from the font used, text alignment, position and size of
the field and other field properties that could be changed from menus (I've
tried for several hours:-)
Hint: I have noticed that when displaying such a report, wine prints log:
fixme:enhmetafile:PlayEnhMetaFileRecord ExtSelectClipRgn
This error exists since I'm usig Wine, from about 0.9.7 to 0.9.11.
Regards from Poland
Marcin
PS. If you think, I could try to use some Windows DLLs to avoid this problem,
please give me a hint.

I believe it is mostly doing it with games that have already started. I don't
know if there is any relation to a firewall.
The calls to select with timeout are probably correct, and sitting here watching

SYN packets going out to the probable host (comcast?). Nothing is coming back.

This bug report has two problems:
1) You didn't specify which software you were trying to run, so it's not
reproducable.
2) You build Wine either without FontForge or Freetype present, so bitmap fonts
were not build, thus the ReadFontDir errors.
setupapi.dll.RegistryDelnode is not implemented, and that is a real problem, but
it would be nice to know which software is trying to use it.

Reading many WWN at once, I got confused, got to think I was reading an older

countries, like mine (Spain), MM-DD-YYYY is used. In some others, DD-MM-YYYY is
used instead. To avoid confusion, I suggest the use of ISO 8601,

Correct, so this is an OS fault, not a Wine fault.

kicks in and reboots it. No I am not removing the heart beat card box has other

Second example demonstrating normal and dialog mode
This example demonstrates the fact that MLE controls have two modes of
operation, which can be referred to as "normal mode" (as in Notepad) and
"dialog mode" (as in dialog boxes), and the discovery as to what implicitly
triggers the mode switch under Windows. In particular, the MLE's handling of
both the Tab and Enter key is heavily dependent on the current operating mode.

I will change it to blocker, based on the notion that we can't use it to "roll
our own" custom RPM files, if it won't build without intervention.
In case anyone is browsing this and just wants to know how to force their way
through a compile, I simply went through the normal steps, (./configure && make
depend && make) until the error happened and then I searched for and edited out
the '64' in the makefiles within the winearts and wineesd directories (it prints
out the offending folder location in the error report) and then re-ran 'make'
from within the wine directory.

When I set the Windows version to Windows 95 or 98 the application at

old K6-2+, but not on my Pentium M. When I use WINEDEBUG=+all to slow my system
down it works on the Pentium M as well (though too slow to be useable). I see
this problem with wine versions 0.9.6 and 0.9.10. I don't know about other versions.
When running the application on a fast system it won't display any windows.

The same, for native msvcrt.
Please note, that in ALL cases (both native and builtin msvcrt) the ISS haven't
started because Foxpro ended up with "transgressed node" error.
If I run it without the +snoop parameter, would it be of any help for You?
Because without +snoop, the "transgressed node" error will probably not appear
and ISS will work..

Rudimentary regression test:
wine .9.10 works fine with just ./configure && make depend && make.
wine .9.11 fails with above error
Today's CVS also fails.
I can get it to build with some editing of the makefiles, but that's not the
point of this exercise.

Created an attachment (id=2194)

puts some DWORDS with magic values around the crit.sec.
I made this modification to find out if anything accidently overwrites part of
the struct where the crit.section is saved. But now i can't get it to happen
anymore. The deadlock does not happen nor do the magic values change. I'm not
sure if this patch just somehow works around the bug or if I just didn't yet
run into the bug again.
If anyone wants to test it please report any ouput starting with "err:wave:"
except if it only are some lines of "err:wave:DSDB_CreateMMAP checks
initialized.".

Hi, Detlef
I think I understand Your feelings. Please, assume that I also am willing to
provide any info needed to help fixind the issue. I apologize if something
escaped from my focus during the time and, ehm, 70 posts :o)
The very good way of formulating Your requests is do it the simple way. Just ask
"please test with builtin msvcrt.dll and debug parameters +msvcrt,+loaddll,+ole
...". I'll do it.
I'll of course test behaviour of native versus builtin. Right now I'm compiling
Wine 0.9.11 for the sake..
As of Your previous request (the +snoop log), I'm afraid I can't help much. I
really don't know, why VFP claims "transgressed node" error, I only know that
unfortunately it comes if the +snoop debug parameter is activated.

Hi,
mfc40.dll is just required to prevent the msieinfo5.ocx error coming out (ie
installs successfully in this case). However, in wine 0.9.11, all kinds of
registration errors come out, and the result is that the browser, plugins, and
other ie parts don't get registered in the registry (files are copied however).
At least with wine 0.9.10 (patched), ie6 gets installed using the howtos in the
app database.

Summary: 3DMark 2001 always crashes when attempting to run a
second test (regression)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.11.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ns03ja(a)brocku.ca
Under Wine 0.9.11, attempting to run any two tests within a single session of
3DMark 2001 causes a crash. This is not specific to any particular test, but
in fact any two tests run in succession produces the crash.
This is a regression since Wine 0.9.10. Wine 0.9.10 allowed all tests (except
point sprites) to be run in immediate succession without this crash, although
0.9.10 had other problems that were fixed in 0.9.11 (most notably, vertex
shaders).
To reproduce:
- run the default benchmark
- 3DMark crashes in the transition between the first and second test, at the
point where the screen has faded to black, and not yet shown the loading
screen
-or-
- clear all tests
- select any single test, except for point sprites
- run the test
- wait until the test completes
- attempt to run the test again
- 3DMark crashes immediately
Note that even if the test is skipped due to "No hardware support", the crash
is still the same.
-or-
- clear all tests
- select any two tests, except for point sprites
- run the tests
- 3DMark crashes in the transition between the first and second test, at the
point where the screen has faded to black, and not yet shown the loading
screen
Note that in this case, if you choose a Pixel Shader test (such as Nature, or
the (Advanced) Pixel Shader tests and you have Pixel Shaders enabled through
winecfg, 3DMark will complain that it cannot initialize your 3D accelerator,
and thusly will not continue on to the next test. Attempting to run any test
after this still causes the crash as seen above, however.
Tested on the following systems:
Gentoo x86 (Wine 0.9.11 was not installed through portage, but was self
compiled)
1.3 GHz Pentium-M
Radeon Mobility 7500
512M RAM
Gentoo AMD64 (same binaries as above)
Athlon X2 4200+
GeForce 6600 256M
2G RAM

What graphics card/drivers and Wine version are you using? I can confirm that
this happens on
my laptop with an Intel 855GM graphics card, but it does not happen on the
desktop computers I have tried, with nVidia cards using the proprietary nVidia
drivers.
I tested the laptop with Wine 0.9.9, and the desktops with 0.9.10 and 0.9.11.
I'll upgrade to see if it makes a difference.

as soon as the mouse cursor enters the window the game becomes extremly slow and
cant render properly. tried playing around with some debug channels but tbh i
dont have a clue what im looking for.
there wont be any events processed while the cursor is inside the window. after
the cursor leaves again they are however being processed after a while.
you can find the german beta test http://woq2.gamigo.de/ (its free btw)
the starter doesnt seem to work properly for me so i had to start it with:

hope anyone can help me get this running.

Actually, I haven't tried this enough with plain cvs wine, and I should have. In
cvs wine, the desktop window becomes larger for no apparent reason where it
hadn't before (display window is off the screen and wine now adjusts the desktop
window to accomodate it?). Clicking around randomly caused the game to minimize,
and sometimes restoring it makes the frontend show up. Of course, when that
happens, input from the mouse has no effect. So I'm now totally convinced my
theory is correct and there are separate "drawing" and "input" windows.

Created an attachment (id=2188)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=2188&action=view)
patch for making everything a lot worse
Ok, this patch was created to test a guess at what's happening. Here goes:
<guesswork>The W:A frontend creates two windows. One of the windows is
responsible for getting input, and it has normal controls (frames and things,
which you really see in wine). As far as the windowing system is concerned,
this one is always visible (except when an always-on-top window pops up and
ruins everything, a problem known that has plagued this frontend in the past).
However, users never really see this window because W:A uses directdraw to
hijack the screen and draw something else. Except that in wine, they do. This
is because directdraw in wine doesn't hijack the display; it just draws to an
existing window, which in this case is not visible.</guesswork>
Screenshot of W:A running with the break-everything patch:
http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotwaborked4pu.png
Now, the idea of this patch is to confirm or disprove that story by forcing the
"display" window to be visible. Hopefully, you'll then be able to see some of
the frontend being drawn. And that's exactly what happens; the right and bottom
parts of the frontend are drawn. I'm assuming you don't see the rest of it
because that's where the "input" window is. I was expecting the display window
to be on top of the "input" window..I guess this makes more sense in
retrospect.
Of course, since I'm not familiar with how ddraw works, I don't know what the
best way to fix this is. It seems to me you could create a new unmanaged
window, on top of everything else, for drawing things (thus hijacking the
display), but that doesn't accept any kind of input (that's possible, right?).

> I'm not an MS developer, guess I can't read MSDN
Anybody can read MSDN. It's free.
\\.\ is the prefix of all NT path names, and we already support some of them.
Files, named pipes, device drivers, mailslots and other things all start with
this NT prefix, so it is not the problem. The problem is the "NSLOCK" bit after
that.
It looks like your Stock Analysys program requires some kind of device driver (a
Windows kernel module) to run. Unfortunately, since Wine does not implement the
Windows kernel itself, device drivers don't work in Wine.
Maybe the "NSLOCK" driver is meant to prevent people reverse engineering that
software? I can't really imagine why stock analysis software needs a device driver.
Please investigate further to see if this is the case. I'm happy to try running
your software if you send me a mail with details of how to do so.

"Please read MSDN. \\.\ _IS_ supported. '\\.\NSLOCK' which is a device is _NOT_."
Am not an MS developer, guess I can't read MSDN (don't quite want to dig in to
that mess anyway and that is the very reason I want to use Wine under Linux).
But I did researched a bit, though not an expert. My question to your comment
is: since Wine support \\.\ (the root under Windows), why doesn't it allow the
program to install NSLOCK on \\.\. The program runs perfectly in XP, so if Wine
doesn't support some critical features of Windows (such as \\.\ in my concern),
can anyone please document (or even list) them clearly?
In any regard, making the program I am testing run in Linux is crutial as it
(along with a couple other programs, which seem to have the same issue under
Wine) is nearly indispensible for Chinese stock analysis and at the moment a
large community is looking to convert to Linux pending on this.
Please help. I am a strong advocate of Linux and really want most people to be
free of an OS that is not only junk but also too controlling of ourlives.
BTW, would it be easier for you if you have the program at hand? If so, I can
arrange to get a demo version set to you so that you can debug on it. Please
advise.

Since my last upgrade of wine (20050930 to 0.9.10 & 0.9.11), the (email)
selection list in Eudora do not work properly.
I am seeing these errors, but i am not sure if it is related:
err:comboex:COMBOEX_WindowProc unknown msg 0530 wp=00000000 lp=00000000
err:listview:LISTVIEW_WindowProc unknown msg 0530 wp=00000000 lp=00000000
There is a list (of email) with a preview panel below. An email is pre-selected.
When I click on another email, the first one is not been unselected (as it
should). The concequense is that the preview panel cannot preview properly since
2 (or more) emails are selected.
I am running Eudora 6.2.3.0.

Summary: Arindal Win-Client not usable anymore, OpenGL

This might be of minor interest, but there´s a MORPG called Arindal
(www.arindal.com) which uses a Win-Client that used to work pretty fine with
WINE 0.9.8 (besides OpenGL, which causes wrong positioning of the main window -
same as in Google Earth, besides) but since 0.9.9 it´s not playable anymore
(same with 0.9.10).
I´m using Ubuntu Dapper Drake Alpha, but the same error ocurrs with Ubuntu 5.04
as well (especially the wrong positioning).
As this is my first report here, I´m quite unsure what else to post, but it
would be nice if I got some clues how to make OpenGL work correctly at least. I
know that this game is absolutly not important, but it would be nice if it
worked with WINE > 0.9.8 as well.
Best regards and many thanks for your extraordinary work so far :-)
Greets,
Alex.

I'm trying to run the CSLU toolkit (writen in TCL for windows) in wine, but the

do it VERY VERY fast.

Claudio,
Yes. Well I was quite aware in the first week of the month that the splash
screen regressed. But it was easy to workaround, so it was not on my critical
TODO list. It is not a blocker at all. The problem seems a bit more serious
now, since many applications with multiple threads have problems. But it will
remain so until completely fixed because the original patch was needed. This is
the only regression with current wine and the game. Regressions like this are rare.
There are also GLX issues, but I can't do anything about them because I don't
have an affected driver. This is more on general graphics compatability and
wine improving towards it. This is an ongoing problem.
As for videos, they are DIVX videos, not bink. The problem comes from
increasing thread priority. Some people do not have a problem. There is a
patch now available to allow users who run as root to be able to run demanding
threads more smoothly. But quartz support is undoubtly buggy and could still
make the game crash. If you want it fixed, please capture the crash output and
file a seperate bug report. Quartz/Dshow is another long, hard project that is
ongoing. However, I don't consider this critical feature for War3 to work as
you can delete the movies folder and the game will not load quartz. So if you
want stability there, you *must* do that.
I was told a long time ago, that the windows API is far too large to quickly
build complete support for. Testing every patch against a set of applications
will slow wine development down immensely. Testing applications against
corresponding changes won't work either because some other app will break that
no one thought of. Wine is also in Beta, meaning it will work for some things,
but will still be unstable. Development is ongoing, and because of the size of
the project, it can still take years before Wine is not beta. We do already
have a mechanism for testing support, and voluteers to keep track of apps. But
try to understand that not everyone has the understanding about why something
broke or how to fix it. Yes it is exhausting for the users, but it is also much
more exhausting for me keeping track of all of this. Also, if you want to
continue this topic, please take it to the AppDB node for the game. This is not
the place for this discussion.

So I tried winamp and when an application is playing a sound it doesn't even
find a sound device in wine.
But even when wine is the only one accessing alsa - it still reports what looks
like a corrupt char* for the device name. So I assume it is a general problem in
publishing the sound hardware.

Oh, and about the app being marked as gold, that was some time ago at the

been some modifications to the current wine that render it inoperable right now.

That may be the case, but I don't think it would cause every application trying
to play a sound to hang like that. The symptoms you describe are the same as
when any program tries to access the sound hardware and it is already taken by a
sound server, or by some other program.
If you can try this instead of the last test, we can know for sure if it is a
problem with wine or with a sound server.
Take any sound player that is known to work well with wine (I think winamp
does), and try to play 1 song. If winamp hangs (especially toward the first
couple of seconds of the song), then there is a sound server running.
Otherwise, it is a bug in wine..
The reason this is a good test is because there can only be 1 song playing at a
time (unless you try to run multiple copies), and so the hardware cant be in use
by any other sound (at least not from wine).

Hello,
I also experienced the problem.
In my experience the best versions to run warcraft 3 are wine-0.9.6 / wine-0.9.7
using the -opengl option on the command line.
with wine-0.9.9 wine tries to handle the bink cutscenes, which results in
unavoidable freezes and X protocol errors in single player.
There are already bug reports about these problems.
with wine-0.9.10 the splash does not work, as explained before by the other
user. The same issue remains in wine-0.9.11 and current CVS.
Using wine is quite exhausting as an user, as it tends to break a lot of
programs every new version, resulting in lots of time-consuming regression work.
If I can give a humble advice, you should have a pool of applications to test
manually before committing relevant changes to wine.
For example, I found a serious regression that dates back to 2005 (pre wine 0.9)
that breaks the game "Icewind Dale 2", and it's still not fixed yet.
This is to mean that regressions should be best avoided by prevention, if you
understand me.

My theory: The intro is playing the sound of the first intro and wants to start
another sound - but the sound of the first one has not yet finished and the
second somehow hangs the first.
Some info to the issues I have in dapper:
Using esd - I can play multiple streams parallel. I assume esd is not working
that performant because some issue xy.
Using alsa - I can play multiple streams serialized.

Ok, I try to explain once again. So, there is no any missing glyphs. Every chars
good and nice and visible. But those are visible only in that case when we are
using the right format. I think it isn't depend on glyphs. Therefor, in my
oppinion, someone have to add some lines to the wine code, that understand both
of different formats.

Oh. lol ok. In that case, just make sure you arent running any other sound
servers, like arts, or whatever esd's replacement is, or jack or anything.
Those are known to cause problems because they block access to the sound
hardware, and when wine is configured to use them, IIRC, they have a bit of a
lag with playing the sounds.
another thing to try is playing a sound with the aplay command in the console.
If it plays, then you know that there is no sound server running, or that if
there is one, it is configured properly to allow other programs access to the
sound hardware. If it doesn't play, or give an error, then you know there is
still a sound server running, that needs to be killed.
