Proxomitron.exe set to autoload at OS boot.
Runs perfectly under 0.9.8. (SuSE RPM install via YaST). Visible systray icon
left/right clickable and required for manual app control.
Under 0.9.9 (SuSE RPM install via YaST) no systray icon displayed nor detected.
It appears that Proxomitron is running, but without user control, since tray
icon is not available. No workaround.
Needed to revert back to 0.9.8 (SuSE RPM install via YaST) to regain icon manual
control functions. Went back and forth between versions twice to verify problem.
Same results. No error messages. No load/run problems.

The patch is a workaround. It seems that my system does not have MS Sans Serif
installed. My guess is it is only available when you copy window fonts. Their is
a font override section of the registry but it is in an NT section. The source
looks in a different registry key for the substution. I do have FreeSans and
FreeSerif installed via rpm from Mandriva.

I noticed quite a few games hanging when the intro is shown. Accidentally I
messed with the sound config and see - it works using esd (which is my system
default). So I tested this with some games and it's always the same story -
ingame movies tend to hang when using alsa.
Problem is using esd it seems the sound processing is somewhat wrong because I
have continuesly many little hangs and stuff and my console is bombed with
"fixme:wave:ESD_AddRingMessage two fast messages in the queue!!!!" messages (not
only in the movie scenes).

Summary: Resizing out-of-sync window freezes and then crashes
wine. Seen in Photoshop.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-programs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jeff(a)storago.com
I rated the severity here as major since this completely crashes the
application, and causes the entire system to suspend for several seconds.
To reproduce: In Photoshop 7 (and other versions as well) on Wine 0.9.9, and
also 0.9.8, and possibly all prior versions, open with default settings, create
a new file, grab the bottom edge of the layer palette and pull up to resize.
This will cause the crash.
Observations: The buttons normally along the bottom of the layer panel are not
showing either. Noting this, I decided to mess around - so I clicked on the
"Paths" tab in the same tool palette, and the window instantly expands to a
different, longer size, now including the missing buttons! Once i've done this,
I can resize the palette - at least for the moment - with no crash. Future
adjustments to the number of layers and so forth seem to make it crash prone
again. My theory is that Adobe is tracking the size the palette "should" be,
and using its own mathematics to figure out the internal arrangement of the
layer palettes various parts, but the window Wine has is for some reason at
variance in its Height from what Adobe thinks it is. This difference causes
perhaps a negative number in the math calculating the resize of the window, and
the program enters a negative loop. Possibly some recursion/overflow involved,
since it bails out after a few seconds with a complete crash?
This bug is particularly nasty because you can easily lose all your work if you
don't save constantly.

In running Ultima Online, there is a "Ultima Online is loading..." dialog,

the game window (and all other windows), making it unusable.
If there is a way to make these dialogs not always on top, that would also
solve the issue.

Because in this bug, like in bug #4662 it chooses a bad font, which it is

In my opinion, at least until this `dib engine' gets implemented, the old
behaviour should be configurable at runtime, i.e. in winecfg. It's not a good
approach, but it's neither a hack, and since this patch breaks so much stuff,
users should be able to select whether they want to run an opengl game with
full performance (old code) or some application which requires new code.

Celestia is a very nice freeware 3D astronomy software, similar to GoogleEarth
but for our Universe. While starting the application when my desktop was
switched to different resolutions sometimes it was working. Excpet that the
graphics ovewrites all GUIs (see other bugs) it works well. But in most cases
the application was crashing at startup, after the graphic is displayed the
first time. With wine-0.9.9 is seems to crash always. It also seems to me that
the crash has something to do with switching the desktop resolution... For
details see trace.

The game worked more or less fine, but sometimes there are cases in which the
sound synchronization seems to go wrong such that the game crashed. Roughly 50%
of the game I could play, then I got stuck at a point at which it always crahed.
Since 0.9.9 the sound directly stops if the main menu appears. If you choose the
option dialog the game hangs. Switching (Alt-Tab) back to the console it crashes.
I guess all this problems is due to the err and fixme in the trace. The exact
moment when the problem takes place sightly varies depending on wine's sound
settings.

Summary: Deadlock on Hungarian tax software
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: zboszor(a)dunaweb.hu
I wanted to try Wine whether it was capable of running "Abev",
the official Hungarian tax software. System is FC3/x86-64, Wine
was obtained from Fedora Extras 3/i386.
The tax software in question can be found here:
http://www.apeh.hu/cgi-bin/lap.php?id=prog/pr2006
Main installer is: http://www.apeh.hu/cgi-bin/pil2006.pl?abev2006telep.exe
and one has to install at least one tax form type for this software to be
usable. Choose one of the numbered tax form installers, e.g.:
http://www.apeh.hu/cgi-bin/pil2006.pl?0601.exe
and run it, too.
Then run ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Abev 2006/abev.exe"
The application displays these shortly after startup:
fixme:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters We don't handle PRINTER_ENUM_CONNECTIONS
fixme:winspool:WINSPOOL_EnumPrinters We don't handle PRINTER_ENUM_CONNECTIONS
Choose "Adatok -> Új nyomtatvány" menu, it will display
the installed tax forms in a combo box, choose one,
or leave the first chosen. Don't be bothered by the other two comboboxes,
they will be empty.
The form isn't displayed correctly, it flickers badly and its
position is wrong. The application gets non-responsive from there on,
pressing Ctrl-C in the terminal where I started it this is displayed:
err:syslevel:_EnterSysLevel (0x55eca3a0, level 2): Holding 0x55f78900, level 3.

err:syslevel:_EnterSysLevel (0x55eca3a0, level 2): Holding 0x55f78900, level 3.

...
Under Wine 0.9.7, winedbg starts about after a second.
Under 0.9.9, I had to press Ctrl-C two or more times to start winedbg,
at which point some other "err:" lines also appear, the end of the debug lines
quoted below:

to be fixed. The application itsself has other issues, but i was able to get it
working using the following overrides:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="oleaut32,shdocvw,shlwapi=n" wine CVitae.exe
However, looks like all files have been installed sucesfully by the installer

That's \\.\ - read MSDN for more info. In two words - special device namespace.
I think that's the problem... Your program might be trying to install a driver
of some sort.
warn:ntdll:NtCreateFile L"\\??\\E:\\fxj\\SELF\\" not found (c0000034)
>> what does "\\??\\" mean?
Same thing, only in winNT language ;)
warn:file:CreateFileW Unable to create file L"\\\\.\\E:" (status c0000034)
>> what does "\\\\.\\E:" mean?
Tries to open device that is mapped to E: (read partition, or a whole device).
warn:file:CreateFileW Unable to create file L"E:\\fxj\\MultiPy.cfg" (status
c0000034)
>> MultiPy.cfg is a file. Why can't it create MultiPy.cfg while some other
files are created?
c0000034 is STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND.
Read MSDN again. All files are opened/created in this way (CreateFile).
In this case that error could only came from atempt to open an existant file,
not to create a new file.
Anyway, I would like to see WINEDEBUG=+ntdll,+snoop log

Unfortunately, the test program isn't mine, and I have no experience dealing
with either wine nor windows code.
I was hoping that this bug would get some attention as it seems to be a function
that's used often.
In any case, if I have a lot of extra time later, I wouldn't mind poking around
the code to see what's going on.

You might be waiting a long time for others to fix the bug fox you. If you can
write a test program that shows the problem, I think going one step further and
fixing the bug probably isn't too difficult.
How about proposing a patch to fix the problem? I'm happy to guide you through

is hard to do anything here, because the mousepointer is centering to the mid of

So you are right. It is a soundbug.

To answer your question, E: is simply mapped to ~/WinProgs directory and I do
have rwx permission to it and all its subdirectories. StockDrv.dll is in
WinProgs/fxj directory and I have rw permission.
The installation of fxj (superstkn) went through successfully with Wine. I
agree that it seems from the messages that the program can not find a lot of
files. But I can't tell what the messages really mean. For instance the
following few messages:

Hello Rob i have just uploaded two Debug Files.
The One Debug file is created while the Programm run under wine.
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=1980&action=view
It show allways the error Message
"fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionExA Flags 00000000 ignored"
Normally this "InternetSetOptionExA" Function is used to tell the Programm how
long should the Programm wait till it release a TimeOut InternetException.
After this message it show allso that the Timout of the Internet Connection is
not setup right.
"fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW Option INTERNET_OPTION_CONNECT_TIMEOUT (800):
STUB"
The Other Debug File is created while the Computer has no acces to the Internet
or better not Connected to the Internet.
In windows normally the Programm execute in this "no Internet Access" state
allways the CInternetException Routine to catch up Timeouted Internet Connections.
In wine the Programm Crash after one time the CInternetException is executed.

When did having IE working was the highest priority? AFAIK you still need to use
native advpack if you want it to install.
Also Sven if you want to add any debug output, please make sure that you have
NOT stripped version of DLLs. (run 'file /path/to/ntdll.dll.so' to see what I mean).

I'm sorry. I only posted that final debug thing because that's what I said I'd do.
I did say I got a DIFFERENT set of errors when I ran completely clean without
the with no winetools/wine-config-sidenet.
Now that it's clear to me has it's own built-in MSIEXEC this bug really is
INVALID...
the fact that it lacks some support (which is what my last debug dump really
demonstrates) that will be filled in in the future is something all of us wine
users are already used to.

1. Where is E: drive mappend to? It looks like Wine can not open it for some
reason. Make sure that you have at least read permissions on the device that
hosts e:.
2. Please check that you do have StockDrv.dll

not found on e: drive. Have you installed it properly?

I can't say that this is due to Chinese filenames as other programs write

I ran a Chinese stock analysis software called TDXW with Wine 0.9.9 on Ubuntu
6.04. Somewhere in the program you can check financial news headlines. When I
do that, I guess Wine pops up and small window telling me that it needs to
download Mozilla ActiveX and I accept. Then it connects to winehq.com to
download. Sometimes it finished downloading and sometimes never, but in either
way, the program hangs. I seem to remember that this worked under 0.9.7 perhaps.
Attached are the error messages before I killed the process.

It is a Chinese financial account management software called TdxWT (I am not
sure about other English names). You won't reproduce the problem as you may not
be able to log in and before logging in it doesn't crash. Just let me know if
you need anything.
I was running Wine 0.9.9 on Ubuntu 6.04, but the program didn't work before -- I
just didn't follow up.

once OK is clicked I was able to resume play. I noticed that in the table chat

I'm wondering if smilies are not allowed in PartyPoker and Wine is catching an
exception because of it. I'll test it out on a WinXP box and add my findings to

Actually, that won't work anyway because of the way wcmd uses to find the
executable.
Try just running "wine explorer /systray"

The problem is now fixed with Wine 0.9.9 and eMule 0.47a. However the "6" is
back for some reason, but this is not a functional issue, just cosmetic.

Summary: RenderMonkey doesn't run properly
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.8.
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.ati.com/developer/rendermonkey/downloads.html
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: philip(a)digitalinfinity.biz
Program has trouble rendering images. This problem has been here for several
versions. There is still problems with the direct3d rendering and OpenGL
rendering in this program. Getting this program working would be extremely
useful in fixing large numbers of bugs in wine. This program is used for
development of many games and fixing its compatibility problems will fix
problems in many video games that work under windows.
I'd suggest getting the software development tools for windows working. This
would be a very useful strategy in fixing allot of bugs in wine. If the software
development tools work out of the box there is no reason why the applications
that were built with them wouldn't work either. I'm not sure if my comments will
be taken seriously but this is a general recommendation. Its something worth
considering. I still can't get visual studio enterprise edition working. The
version with visual j++ in it. It won't install.
Render Monkey although it loads fine Its not useable. Second you try to use the
program it crashes. I've included the URL for this program. Its a LGPL'd program
so its on the ATI website.

Yeah forgot to add. That's been a default config in SuSE 9.2 and needless to
say, Novell changed that back. So it looks like FC going the same path. So
unless they fix it before FC5 is out, they probalbly will fix that for FC6.

Just tried this with the open source game Pingus in SDL mode
(http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=4299), and the problem still
persists (SDL mode is accessed by running Pingus -S). However, the game works
fine in OpenGL mode.
I tried the patch listed above, and that didn't fix it either. Not sure if this
is because of all of the recent changes with wined3d or if the Pingus error is
technically unrelated but similar. Just wondering if this patch/hack still
works for everyone else in their apps?

Try winNT+ version. It might work better or have the same problem...

If your VPN clients needs a kernel driver (likely) then you're out of luck.
Wine is only a user level implementation of Windows, and drivers don't work.
If it's possible to make your VPN driver work, it would be using something like
ndiswrapper, not Wine.

Timeouts aren't currently supported in wininet. Additionally, in Windows, a
cable unconnected event is generated and causes the adaptor to behave as if it
were offline. This isn't the case in Linux.
I'm not sure why the exception occurs. Please generate a +wininet log and attach
it to the bug.
