I haven't noticed any strange screen artifacts by changing it to Unsorted, but it's not the "correct" method. Here's the Xlib progamming manual on the topic: http://tronche.com/gui/x/xlib/GC/convenience-functions/XSetClipRectangles.h… Here's what it has to say on the last argument about clipping rectangle sorting: "If known by the client, ordering relations on the rectangles can be specified with the ordering argument. This may provide faster operation by the server. If an incorrect ordering is specified, the X server may generate a BadMatch error, but it is not required to do so. If no error is generated, the graphics results are undefined. Unsorted means the rectangles are in arbitrary order. YSorted means that the rectangles are nondecreasing in their Y origin. YXSorted additionally constrains YSorted order in that all rectangles with an equal Y origin are nondecreasing in their X origin. YXBanded additionally constrains YXSorted by requiring that, for every possible Y scanline, all rectangles that include that scanline have an identical Y origins and Y extents." There is a small 'loading..' dialog that pops up when it is loading, but is supposed to dissapear when it is loaded but never does.. In wine, this dialog stays on top of all other windows (which makes it pretty much unusable). Cedega has the same problem, but the dialog is not always on top so this is what I currently use. I'd rather be using wine, as it seems to be faster than Cedega, and is overall a better thing for the community. Clicking OK 13 times removes the error window and brings up the correct multitabbed window where report content is selected. A long string of "fixme:richedit:RichEditANSIWndProc ..." messages are generated by this action. BUT selecting any of the tabs brings up the same pop-up error message. Clicking OK removes the error window. This action generates a string of "fixme:richedit:RichEditANSIWndProc ..." messages. Clicking 'OK' 'Close' or the close window [X] button generates an endless string of the same pop-up error message. One must kill the program to exit. Apparently there are no additional wine messages displayed in the terminal window in the attempt to exit the report function. I would definately try the dos emulator for running the patch, and see if that works. IIRC, no no-cd patching programs that open up a command prompt in windows work under wine, although the ones that have an actual dialog box that you click a patch button work fine. The point is, though is this: a badly-written app surely would not try to access the stream after it had called the destructor for the storage object? If this is the case, then deleting the stream will stop the memory leak. However, it looks from your test that Windows does _not_ delete the stream and thus itself leaks memory. I thought I had tested this earlier and found that Windows did delete the streams, but I have just checked my notes and it turned out I was thinking of a different issue. However, what do you think the best way to handle the other issue (mismatch in grfMode of opened stream to the grfMode of the storage object)? That is a crash after the crash. Steam tries to get all the info for their memdump and crashing on not implemented function dbghelp.dll.SymGetSymFromAddr64. Or just pock around and see what might be wrong. Also make sure that you have OSS device available when you start CS:S. This patch corrects these errors. Furthermore this patch results in the storage object now properly cleaning up after itself if it is deleted ahead of streams within it. This now correctly implements the algorithm I had in mind (I hope) There is one issue with it that needs to be corrected: I need to call the destructor for the IStream objects from the code but I am not sure where best to place the prototype - would it be better to create a stg_stream.h file and dump it in there, or to place it elsewhere, say in storage.h. At the moment it is unprototyped which throws a warning, but will be OK in 32-bit code. I'd rather not leave it like this. Any suggestions? Re style - I take your points Mike, however I always thoroughly clean up the patch just before actual submission when development of it is complete in order to remove any redundant changes, alter style etc. During development when the code is being functionally tested it is a lot easier to spot my changes in a several-thousand-line source file when they look different, and it is quicker to code in a style I am used to.The "standard" list implementation is nice and simple, though. It installs, loads, and runs without crashing (and no warning whatsoever). I updated it to SR-2, no problem. However, trying to open a file leads to me being unable to navigate drives! The best I can do is move downwards from drive_c (I can't move backwards). I'm using WineHQ's binary RPM for Mandriva on Mandriva 2006 Community x86-64. It works well here, on both well behaved and badly behaved apps without leaking memory. I would appreciate it if you could take a look at it and make any comments/suggestions. Otherwise I'll clean it up and send it in as a fix. The object of the patch is for StorageBaseImpl to maintain a list of active streams that are opened within the object. If a well behaved app correctly deletes the stream before deleting the storage, the stream is removed from the object. If the app deletes the storage object, then all outstanding undeleted stream objects are mopped up as well. Testing has shown this seems to be the way Windows does it. It now passes the conformance test I developed. Note: The grfMode bug on OpenStream still remains - the commented-out lines at line 350 and 351 in storage32.c are there to bypass this bug until the major one is fixed. Try installing the package (the installer binary is called MDAC_TYP.exe). This package has a dependency on IE so you need to install IE first. However it then crashes.
