The line "shopt -o nullglob" should instead be "shopt -s nullglob". "shopt -o"

I use this software from time to time. I see a difference running under win 95
via qemu vs native. When dragging a window frame under 95 it only paints the
boarders. Under wine it paint the entire canvas. I think I remember options on
win98 to enable the paint while drag which is the way that wine does it.
I did upgrade from Mandriva 2005 LE which used xfree to Mandriva 2006.0 which is
using DRI from the xorg. I have an all in one biostar mb with semipron 2500.
After the update the xorg DRI and OpenGL things are a work or are faster.
I did notice that when drawing nets that the big cross cursor that covers the
window does not show. I think it is a problem with my video drivers as I did a
regression testing back to Sept 2005 and it does not show the cursor when
drawing a net. When I get a chance I will install my older version on a spare
harddrive and test.

I posted this bug with hoping it isn't a bug, but a configuration error of mine
(in the dlls, etc) since I dont really understand this debugging messages and I
want to help the best way I can...
Is there a guide or something to get me thru this thing of deferred dlls? I know
that I can't mix native and builtin components such as ole32 native and oleaut32
builtin, that is the sort of information I want, the groups of libraries such as
this (ole32, oleaut32 and rpcrt4).
Hope you can help me get this info, so I can be lot more helpful.
Thanx

This bug is similiar to bug 4181, but I tried suggestion in comment #1 there
(regarding setting a registry key), and it didn't seem to make any difference.
(Also, I spelled "manger" as "manager.")

First, I found that if I use the native Win98 hhctrl.ocx it gets rid of the
'fixme:htmlhelp:HtmlHelpW HH case HH_INITIALIZE not handled.' error.
Second, attached you will find my dump that was generated by using the following
command line:
WINEDEBUG="+loaddll,+ole,+oledlg,+fixme" wine paf5.exe
In my winecfg, I have hhctrl.ocx, usp10.dll set to "native, builtin". This dump
is the paf5_dump_hhctrl file.
Running it again, without using the native hhctrl.ocx you get file paf5_dump.
This is running 0.9.8 compiled from source.

I'm not understanding what I'm supposed to do to patch the source like you did.
I tried patching the 0_9_8 CVS tag/version and the patch applied correctly, but
like it was already mentioned "fixme:winsock:WS_getnameinfo getnameinfo()
failed, not found during buildtime" appears, and bittorrent just pops up a
message about its log.
I tried getting the latest CVS checkout (into a new directory). That seemed to
already include the changes in the patch, but after compilation I got the same
results by running bittorrent.exe.
In the latest CVS checkout:
$ grep getnameinfo /usr/include/netdb.h
returns nothing and:
$ grep -A7 getnameinfo config.log
configure:14784: checking for getnameinfo
configure:14841: gcc -m32 -o conftest -m32 -L/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib/ -m32

I have the 32-bit X11 headers installed and shall use the switch you suggest.
Is it possible to set a link or something to cause Wine to find libwine.so and
associates under /usr/local/lib? Strangely, it is obviously finding all the
other dlls (under /usr/local/lib/wine), so it must largely be aware that I
have installed under /usr/local.
Thanks for all your help!

(1) When making ddraw.dll, gcc is correctly instructed to compile each
component C file 32-bit, with the correct X11 include path, e.g.:
make[2]: Entering directory `~/wine/dlls/ddraw'
gcc -m32 -c -I. -I. -I../../include -I../../include -I/usr/X11R6/include
-D__WINESRC__ -D_REENTRANT -fPIC -Wall -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing -gstabs+
-Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wpointer-arith -g -O2 -o clipper.o clipper.c
But it seems that winegcc is then being hardwired to look to the 64-bit X11
libraries, whereas it needs the 32-bit ones:
../../tools/winegcc/winegcc -B../../tools/winebuild -shared ./ddraw.spec
clipper.o ddraw_hal.o ddraw_main.o ddraw_thunks.o ddraw_user.o ddraw_utils.o
main.o palette_hal.o palette_main.o regsvr.o surface_dib.o
surface_fakezbuffer.o surface_gamma.o surface_hal.o surface_main.o
surface_thunks.o surface_user.o surface_wndproc.o version.res -o
ddraw.dll.so -L../../dlls -L../../dlls/ole32 -L../../dlls/user32
-L../../dlls/gdi32 -L../../dlls/advapi32 -L../../dlls/kernel32
-L../../dlls/ntdll -lole32 -luser32 -lgdi32 -ladvapi32 -lkernel32 -lntdll
-L../../libs/wine -lwine -ldxguid -luuid -L/usr/X11R6/lib64 -lXext -lX11
-L../../libs/port -lwine_port
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.0.2/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:
skipping incompatible /usr/X11R6/lib64/libXext.so when searching for -lXext
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.0.2/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:
skipping incompatible /usr/X11R6/lib64/libXext.a when searching for -lXext
/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.0.2/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld:
cannot find -lXext
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
Using --x-libraries=/usr/X11/lib will solve that problem, but - and with
respect - I wonder how widespread the issue is among 64-bit users, and whether
it might need addressing in code.
(2) /usr/local/lib *is* in my ld.so.conf file. I expect that using ./configure
--prefix=/usr will work, since *everything* will then be prepared for an
installation directly below /usr, so the libwine* files will conveniently be
in the right place. However, if one wishes to deliberately install wine
under /usr/local, then I would have thought that Wine *should* place its
libwine* files in /usr/local/lib and be configured to look for them there.

maybe its because it is german, you just have to click "free"
wait a entrity time and choose the download server
or use this

its the same wait 45secs and click
"Zum Starten des Downloads hier klicken"
anyway I am not going to make an entry for this
because it is just something that I have to build for
vocational school, so it is no use to other
just good enough for wine testing

I started with wine-20050310 (binary) and my oldest source was wine-20050419,
When I found the Bug, I tried as much as I was able to do with my non-existent
knowledge on OpenGL.
Tested 20050419: The Visual Bugs are the same.
Searching bugzilla for "OpenGL" result in ~50 entries, but no matching Entry.
- OpenGL left
- OpenGL bottom
- OpenGL client
- OpenGL area
- OpenGL clear
- OpenGL overwrite
=> No Entry found, so i filled the Bug 2 days later.
What i missed, was the wiki. Sorry for that.
When I got your commend, I downloaded wine-20050111, and yes, the Behavior is
different:
The Position-Slider and the Bottons are ok, but the Video-Area is Black.
So with vlc, we have an Application with Source to reproduce the Bug.
Feel free to change Bug #2398 to match this Bug (Summary, URL, keywords or what
you like.)

I was getting into similar situation once. I even wrote some patch to avoid
the crash [1], but it wasn't accepted. Maybe it is just tries to recover from
it too weak. But it helped me. Can you give it a go and report results? :)
If it helps, Nvidia binary drivers are the thing to blame. I wonder if OpenGL
specs tell it can work at 8 bpp color depth at all?

On my (Athlon 64-bit) system, there are a couple of library-path problems:
1. 'Make' does not find my X11 library files; I export
LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/X11R6/lib to get past this;
2. The installation process puts the libwine* files in /usr/local/lib, but I
have to move them to /usr/lib to make Wine find them.

A new thing in 0.9.8 is that it doesn't work with native DCOM98 either, and that
the isntaller hangs before it is finished, though it can be restarted to
complete the installation. The installer issue will have its own bug.

Confirming. By doing a complete dumb hack like replacing line 718 in
dlls/ddraw/main.c:
assert(bpp != 0); /* keeps happening... */
by
if(bpp==0) return 3;
the app starts up fine. return values like 1, and 10 work too, while others hang
up the application. Anyway, this is just complete dumb trial and error, and i
dunno anything about this piece of code. Guess you need to find out why bpp=0.
Maybe someone else could shed a light on this.

I appologize for the delay. I just upgraded my computer to SUSE 10.0 and I was
having trouble with the NVIDIA video drivers. I'm attaching the FULL debug
terminal output.
To get the attached output:
1. set X11 to 8 bpp.
2. used nVidia binary driver w/TNT2 card
(non-binary driver would result in "This program requires 256 colors" error).
3. then run "echo quit | WINEDEBUG=+relay wine math.exe >& fullreport.txt"
4. Ran this both with SUSE 9.2 and 10.0
5. Wine version 0.9.7 from rpm on winehq.org

After docking a component in top of main window (project manager, toolbox, ...),
when you open an form for edit, you can not see whoel form you want to edit.
In correct way, the top left corner of edited form, should be displayed in top
left corner of opened editing window.
When there is something docked in top of MAIN window, top left corner of editing
windows has correct coordinates (with respect of docked tool), but edited
displayed in this window is moved higher, out of editing area. (It has the same
position, as it would have, without anything beeing docked in MAIN window. )
Hope I managed to explain it ...

I have tested with latest wine 9.8. It is still the same behaviour.
I created form with textbox on it. Then I set background color to black.
Normally, when running under Win, cursor placed on such textbox shuld change its
colloer to white.
In wine, it remains black, so it is "invisible" which makes it very difficult to
enter any text.

Then it's probably a problem with your grapics card/ driver, and not a wine-bug.
You should be able to run for example linux-native applications as glxgears.

The trial version of the application can be downloaded here :
http://www.mpegvideowizard.com/download/MVW-DVD-JADYFCLAUJIFVC.exe
First time you run the application, you enter this trail serial number :
"MVW-DVD-JADYFCLAUJIFVC" (expiration date: 2006-03-21)
Afert this, the splash screen appear, and few seconds later, wine quit.
If you try again to run the application, you get a messagebox about the serial
number, press ok, the splash screen appears and it quit.
This can be reproduced.
Do you need any extra log files?

All components of wine (wine, winecfg, winebrowser ...) come back with 'Killed'

It is reproducible each time.

It appears to be an issue with the error checking order that Wine does. Your
patch, however, would not be a good idea as it disables error checking on
certain conditions. It will end up most likely breaking things.

Summary: Diablo II crashes with at level changes
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.8.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: adolf.j.winterer(a)inn-salzach.de
There is a reproducible crash at every level change in Diablo II.
This happens with the expansion set "Lord of Destruction", version
1.11. The No-CD patch is applied, which is needed for the game to accept the
CD, otherwise the copy protection prevents a start.
Whenever a character fulfilled the six quests in a level and is
changing into the next level (e.g. from the encampment to Kurast or from
Kurast to Lut Gholein) the game crashes and an error window is
displayed. The window title reads "Hey guys" and the message is "We
got a big error here :(".
On the console there are a number of error messages (see below). It is nothing
unusual that during the game some error messages are printed to the console,
but normally the game runs rock stable (even better than on Windows 98). The
only crashes I get occur during the level changes. If I use a Windows machine
to move the character into the next level, the game is happy and runs stable
until the next level change.
I'm running SuSE 10.0 (Retail) and with all WINE versions SuSE provided via
YaST download. It also happened with WINE 0.9.6 and now 0.9.8 that I
downloaded from the SuSE site. The only difference between 0.9.6 and 0.9.8 is
that the crash does not happen immediately after the command "go eastward" is
given (e.g. to Warriv), with 0.9.8 now the intermediate sequence with the
opening door and the progress bar is shown for about 1 to 2 seconds and then
the crash occurs.
I can rule out the videos that are shown between the levels, because the video
files are all on the hard disk and can be viewed without a problem.
Error messages before the crash occurs:

... is this still an issue? There's been some big wine releases between now and
then.
I've used it with fluxbox without issue - but your milage may vary.
I've had other problems with fluxbox not respecting full-screen WINE apps right
though - that other window managers would avoid.

Complete fix and new performance tests
This patch fixes up everything so far. Incidentally without this patch the new
conformance tests segfault under Wine as none of the IStream methods actually
check the state of the parentStorage pointer. This fix now allows all IStream
methods to return STG_E_REVERTED as per the MSDN docs. Also we now maintain a
list of IStreams in each IStorage, and orphan any left behind upon closure of
the IStorage, as does Windows. Badly written apps will leak memory, but they
will do this under Windows as well.
A fix has also been introduced pending implementation of transacted mode under
Wine to allow streams to be opened with an ostensibly incorrect grfMode -
Windows allows this and a conformance test has been added to demonstrate this.
I've sent this one to wine-patches.

My problem is that when I tried to compile wine 0.9.8 it returned with the
following error (the ./configure command runs well and the make returns with this) :

ldt.c:80: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once

No additional messages with native mcvcrt. Just the same message as I reported
initally. If you want to see the 'Money has encountered a problem..." dialog,
it is attached to bug 4560.
The only difference in virtual desktop mode was that the splash screen was
removed, but Money was still left hanging with a completely blank window. The
'Money has encountered a problem..." dialog is probably behind it, but I cannot
minimise the window to find out. I have to end the wine-preloader process (which
is shown as a Zombie) to terminate Money.
If there is anything else I can do to help, let me know.

Hi,if it's not too much trouble could you try if it works for you with earlier
wine-versions (i.e. wine 0.9.4) Also, you don't need to use nativ ole32,
oleaut32,and rpcrt4. Only native msvcrt and usp10 are needed, so
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msvcrt,usp10=n" wine GoogleEarth.exe
Last question, can you run simple opengl applications with wine, or do they also
givee problems?

The problem may be in shell32's handling of file names. There are some parts of
shell32 that don't use unicode, and that may be causing the problem.
Please try looking at the +shell logs, and comparing what happens with a chinese
name and a non-chinese name.

1) I installed the latest 0.9.8 wine from freebsd ports
2) I then tried running a setup program off of
turbotax... it crashed. I then tried age of empires
same result.
3) One of the debugs on all programs complained about
not being able to get memory 0x8000000 for its
core memory (sorry don't remember the exact wording).
I fixed that with a hack to the mmap() so that
the call when mapping that address used
MAP_FIXED which seems to have solved that
problem.. but still I crash.
Here is the most recent run with trying to run
setup.exe from turbo-tax... now this could be
some stupid thing I am not doing right too... but
after 1/2 of a day working on it I am hoping
someone wiser than I can provide me either a
RTFM pointer, a suggestion or agree its a bug.

Sorry I take back my last comment regarding Notepad saving to Chinese filename.
It works now correctly.
But the original problem with the financial software still exists, even with
0.9.8. Maybe it is not due to Chinese filenames. Could someone please take a
look at the log file? I will try to get a new one with 0.9.8, but it seems
uploading is very slow here.

I've experienced this with "Beyond Compare 2" (www.scootersoftware.com), but
also the registry editor (launched from winetools) shows this behaviour.
I'm using the Debian packages from winehq with Ubuntu Dapper.

Anything? Also what the message say?
You can make things a bit better by using "virtual-dekstop" mode.
