To make this bug more clear.
First i suposed that those warnings had anything to do with black letter in
ingame, but it hadn't nothing to do with it, the richedit warning errors, has to
do with the EULA contract that MS games have in first run, and that we have to
accept to play the game.
So this messages has to do with the EULA contract.
The black letters, and the letters that appear in blue background ingame are
other issue that probaly are DDraw inplementation issue.
Sorry for the confusion, point made.

When you mean 'black letters' is it in-game ? For example, is it the letters
used in the menu screen over the various 'shields' for the game options
(tutorial / options / ...) ?
If that is the case, there is no link between this and the richedit errors as
the problem is in DDraw or in the Wine DIB engine.

nThis:
More and more copy-protection systems use object security to make some calls
fail. As an example:
1. Parent process creates the child process.
2. Sets the child process permissions with NtSetSecurityObject.
3. Child tries to open it's process with specific access mask.
This call should fail because set permissions do not allow such access.

It's from 06-01-05 cvs version.
I already understood, what is the meaning of that warnings, it has to be with,
the EULA contract that we need to accept, it only happens at first run.
Still don't know what is trigerring that black letters, for now i'm doing some
thing to ReactOS (Keyboard layout, some translations) then i'll try to
understand better what is happening.

Currently i can't try that regression test. I'll try debian stable package built
for debian unstable, if i can find a bit of time.

When starting the game "No Man's Land", you can hear the sound from the films,

display the main menu.
It requires a crack to work. MegaGames has only one for the German version, but
it worked fine for my non-German version.

Summary: Directory is confused by directories named "..."
Product: Wine
Version: 20050725
Platform: PC

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P1
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: giannis(a)stoilis.gr
If you have a directory named "..." (three dots), any directory-chooser window
invoked by any program, will be confused by it. When clicking on the cross at
the left of ther directory-chooser window, to expand it and show its contents,
the contents of the second upper dir will be shown instead. If for example you
expand the directory "/tmp/a/..." the contents of /tmp will be shown inside it
instead.
This happens only with a three-dot directory name. Any other combination of dots
doesn't seem confuse it.
This is the default wine distributed by Ubuntu.

Summary: Heroes of Might & Magic 4 - battle scene is slow unless
mouse is moving constantly
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.5.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: martyspamtrap(a)comcast.net
In a battle scene in HOMM4, animation is very slow, and CPU use is very *low*
unless the user moves the mouse around in continuous motion. While the user is
moving the mouse, animation occurs at full normal speed and CPU use is normal.
I suspect that since the mouse is a software drawn mouse cursor, it forces a
screen update when the mouse is moved. The normal code responsible for
maintaining the frame rate seems to be in error, throttling the frame rate back
way further than necessary, and moving the mouse overrides this because it
forces the update.
The same effect is noticed when on the video when the battle is over, where the
battle's stats are shown.
Please let me know if I can do anything to provide more useful information on
the subject.

On attempting to start up Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Wine will change to full

Reverting back to Wine 0.9.3, HOMM3 works flawlessly. Something broke between

Gilbert has opened bug 3994 for problem 1.
Problem number 2 is bug 4064; we should repackage
the activex control to include msvcp60.dll.
Problem number 3 isn't really a problem, it's
a feature; we don't want to force a modem user to do
a huge download.
Both problems 1 and 2 are valid, so I'm reopening this
bug and marking it as a dup of the most serious one,
bug 4064.

Hello again!
Please Sir, we're not requesting you to support Wine. We're wondering if you can
tell us what you did in the Steam platform update between the 22th and 23rd of
December 2005.
Telling us that will allow us to resolve the problem ourselfs.
Very best regards,
Magnus Glantz
----------------------------
Response (JeffH) 01/13/2006 01:29 PM
Hello,
We do not support the use of wine, Steam is a windows application. Using wine is
completely acceptable, however we cannot provide support for this application.
----------------------------
Customer (Magnus Glantz) 01/07/2006 09:16 AM
Hello,
After an update of Steam and the Steam platform between the 22-23th of Decmeber
a very nasty bug appeared with Steam and Wine. Wine is an Open Source
implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix. With Wine it has before
been possible to run Steam and Steam based games flawlessly in many diffrent
Linux platforms, until recently.
Between the 22 and 23th of December Valve made some kind of update that makes
Steam and all Steam based games to frequently freeze, making Steam and it's
games unusable and unplayable. Alot of people are using Wine or Wine based
solutions to be able to play you're games on Unix based platforms, but right
now, alot of them can not any longer.
The Wine Open Source community are trying to solve this problem. You would help
us and many of you're customers if you are able to tell us exactly what was done
in the update between the 22th and 23th December 2005.
A Wine Bug tracking ticket has been opened for this at:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4131 there you can read more information
about this problem. This bug has been verified by the community. Some useful
information that has arisen is that the problem does not seem to appear in
off-line mode.
Best regards,
Magnus

Looks like something is crashing there (blocked by 0000):
What you need to try is this:
1. Disable sound/set sound to OSS (make sure there are no programs using sound).
2. cd to the game's directory (cd /mnt/win_d/Spiele/Ultima Online). Then run it
: wine ow_client_4011c.exe.
3. Copy game to your ~/.wine/drive_c and run it from there.
4. Install while game under Wine (you might need to install dcom98).
If all fails:
Run game and attache /tmp/relay.txt to to this bug report :
WINEDEBUG=+tid,+seh,+relay wine ow_client_4011c.exe &> /tmp/relay.log && grep -A
20 -B 300 "seh:" /tmp/relay.log > /tmp/relay.txt && rm -f /tmp/relay.log
You might need to kill it from the other terminal.

you need to make sure that your WM' screen depth and wine's agree.
If you set the screen depth in winecfg to 16 then you need to log out and
restart your X session as 16 before you can use wine or winecfg.
It is not nessesary to wipe out your registry files.
With all that said. I'm pretty sure that this should work better than it does so
IMO it's not Invalid.

With Metatrader 4, there are many places (e.g. in View->Strategy Tester and then
the 'Expert properties' button in the new section at the bottom of the window)
where you should be able to doubleclick on a value in a table, allowing you to
change its value. Unfortunately, wine's inbuilt dlls don't let this work, i.e.
doubleclicking has no effect. Changing this for the Win2k comctl32.dll allows it
to work as expected.

Did wine running this program prints any warnings in the output?
The patch you mention starts wine using its internal Marlett font (marlett.sfd).
Maybe your installation just misses it...
Are main window icons drawn correctly if you go to the "Graphics" page in the
winecfg, uncheck an option "Allow the window manager to control the windows" and
just run "wine notepad"?

Just resize the earth window and the bottom navigation thing. I have wincfg set
to Enable a Vertual Desktop at 1024 X 768. You can change this and the tools ->

One more thing: let it do it's loading thing w/o clicking on anything. IE, the
activeX thing comes up, leave it alone until the "initializing" thing is throug
hand then click no.

Summary: wine and all fellow programs break after setting to
anything other than 24-bit
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.5.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-tools
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: me(a)benmassey.ca
When I enter winecfg, disable 'desktop double buffering' on the Graphics tab,
and set colour depth to 32-bit, 16-bit, or 8-bit, it becomes impossible to open
any Windows program with wine or even winecfg itself. The only remedy is to wipe
out all the registry files and start anew.
After I do this, the following error message results on the console when I try
to open winecfg or any Windows program with wine:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 1 (X_CreateWindow)
Serial number of failed request: 13
Current serial number in output stream: 14
This message is constant regardless of the colour depth chosen.
I am running Slackware Linux 10.1 with KDE 3.4.2 on a Celeron 1.0GhZ with 256
megabytes of RAM and an ATI Radeon video card that's fairly old, but
unfortunately I can't remember the number.

After a call to StrokePath the ViewPortExt is changed.
The reason is the call
"SetViewportExtEx(dc->hSelf, szViewportExt.cx, szViewportExt.cy, NULL);" in
line 1784 in "path.c", as it calls implicitely "MAPPING_FixIsotropic" which
changes (at least in my case) dc->vportExtX. (There is also the hint in MSDN to
call SetWindowExtEx before SetViewportExtEx).
A solution could to set the viewport and windowport explicit (without a call to
SetViewport/WindowExtEx).

In eMule 0.46c the text field that is used for entering keywords for a search
will frequently come to a state where a blinking cursor is displayed, but
keyboard input has no effect on the contents of the field.
Clicking with the mouse cursor on the text field has no effect. Keyboard input
still does nothing. Clicking on the button at the righthand end of the field,
having the label "6" will clear the field and allow keyboard input.
Sometimes the blinking cursor won't appear until the button marked "6" is clicked.
Switching to another tab on the eMule window and coming back to the "Search" tab
will return the input field into a usable state.

Summary: Potential metafile NULL-pointer dereference
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gdi-(printing)
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chris.kcat(a)gmail.com
A(n im)properly crafted wmf file can cause a NULL-pointer dereference if it
contains a META_ESCAPE record with GETPHYSPAGESIZE or GETPRINTINGOFFSET, in a
similar way to GETSCALINGFACTOR (which is currently filtered out).
Part of me thinks META_ESCAPE should be filtered out completely since it looks
like a few of the remaining Escape codes can reference potentially
un-allocated memory if given (purposely) mis-crafted data, and it also calls
ExtEscape for unknown Escape codes, which grabs the DC pointer and calls its
ExtEscape callback, if existing.
However, I'm not sure how metafiles work with META_ESCAPE, and they may or may
not need some of the Escape codes to work properly. If that's the case, then
someone with more knowledge should find what codes are valid and only call
Escape if it's one of them.
Here is a patch to prevent potential NULL-pointer dereferences in
dlls/gdi/driver.c, and modifies dlls/gdi/metafile.c so it doesn't do a
redundant check for GETSCALINGFACTOR.

Hi again.
To enable CUPS-Support in wine, you need to recompile with "libcupsys2-dev"
installed.
To enable a printer from "/etc/printcap" in wine, CUPS must fail
(compiled without CUPS or libcups.so not found) and you must add in
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Printing\PPD Files"
a String with your Printername as the String-Name and
the unix path and name of your PPD-File as the String-Value.

Hi.
OK. No Demo available, but:
-ISS is a shortcut for what?
-VFP9 is "Visual FoxPro"?
-Is a Homepage for ISS available (so we can create an AppDB-Entry)?
Regarding to yout logs:
winspool should print this:
trace:winspool:CUPS_LoadPrinters loaded libcups.so.2
Is it Possible, that you compiled wine without CUPS?
=> grep -i "cups" include/config.h
"libcupsys2-dev" is the Package on Ubuntu.
I think, we should first bring wine_cvs with VFP9 to the level where
VFP7 was on wine_20050310 (does print, but print-results are not correct).
Having your Printers in wine is first, then PrintDlgExA and so on.
For the Issue with PrintDlgExA, you can use a native "commdlg.dll" with
an DLL-Override. (winecfg -> Library)
I do this help in my spare time.
If ISS@VFP9 is critical for you, you my want to try "Crossover Office" or hire
CodeWeavers (http://www.codeweavers.com/) to get Profesional Support.

Hello,
we are trying to find solution for the ISS printing. We are using 'alien' test
machine mentioned by the bug reporter Peto. So, on this machine is installed
wine 20050310 - original Debian Sarge installation. For printing tests we are
using: "virtual printer" configured in CUPS as: Device URI:
socket://localhost:12000, name: to_file. Print requests is handled via simple
port listener in Perl. Additional printers are scx4100 and xerox_230.
The printer 'xerox_230' is default.
When we tried to print on the 'xerox_230' from ISS, this messages are shown in logs:
trace:winspool:GetDefaultPrinterW L"xerox_230,WINEPS,LPR:xerox_230"
trace:winspool:GetDefaultPrinterA 0x0000000a/0x00000104:L"xerox_230"
trace:winspool:OpenPrinterW (printerName: L" xerox_230", pDefault (nil))
trace:winspool:OpenPrinterW Can't find printer L" xerox_230" in registry
As you can see, printer name is " xerox_230" not "xerox_230". This name(with
space) is also in customized print dialog (Wine 200504 -dosen'print, but printer
visible -screenshot), but NOT in the default system dialog for printers
configuration. winspool driver uses correct name:
trace:winspool:OpenPrinterW (printerName: L"xerox_230", pDefault (nil))
We tried to make simple workaround by defining the printer ' xerox_230' in the
wine's registry (keys are copy of 'xerox_230'). Now logs is different:
trace:winspool:GetDefaultPrinterW L"xerox_230,WINEPS,LPR:xerox_230"
trace:winspool:GetDefaultPrinterA 0x0000000a/0x00000104:L"xerox_230"
trace:winspool:OpenPrinterW (printerName: L" xerox_230", pDefault (nil))
trace:winspool:DocumentPropertiesA (0x10042,0x1, xerox_230,(nil),(nil),0)
trace:winspool:OpenPrinterW (printerName: L" xerox_230", pDefault (nil))
trace:winspool:GetPrinterDataExA (0x2, "PrinterDriverData", "PPD File" (nil),
(nil), 00000000, 0x406bc094)
warn:winspool:GetPrinterDataExA Can't open subkey "PrinterDriverData"
err:psdrv:PSDRV_FindPrinterInfo Error 2 getting PPD file name for printer '

trace:winspool:ClosePrinter Handle 0x2
trace:winspool:DocumentPropertiesA (0x10042,0x1, xerox_230,0x489c0b18,(nil),2)
trace:winspool:OpenPrinterW (printerName: L" xerox_230", pDefault (nil))
trace:winspool:GetPrinterDataExA (0x2, "PrinterDriverData", "PPD File" (nil),

warn:winspool:GetPrinterDataExA Can't open subkey "PrinterDriverData"
err:psdrv:PSDRV_FindPrinterInfo Error 2 getting PPD file name for printer '
xerox_230'
Missing PPD file, ok so we added [ppd] section to the wine's config:
[ppd]
"generic" = "/tmp/generic.ppd"
Next tests was made on 'to_file' as default printer, because we have no local
access to the xerox_230.
Printing from wine's notepad is always succesful without errors. Command:
WINEDEBUG="+winspool" wine "c:\\windows\\notepad.exe". Also when we changed
printer in the system dialog, no error messages was generated.
Now ISS/VFP9 is able to print without errors in logs, but output are only lines
without text. When we tried to change printer in ISS, no action was made and no
errors or warning was in logs -- printer is still cups default.
When we tried to change windows type for ISS from 'nt40' to 'winxp' or
'win2000', no printers are available in the ISS customized print dialog and this
line is repeated in logs:
fixme:commdlg:PrintDlgExA stub
System dialog for printer configuration works fine from ISS application.
Best regards

Or something similar.
Well, I'll finish the testing.

It's most likely stack corruption that gets masked by the relay trace. Probably
a buffer overflow, especially since the fault address 31303635 looks like ascii.
Try disassembling a few instructions before the crash and look for API calls.

Debian Sarge, GNOME.
The installator of myODBC has buggy output. When executed, the window is blank.
Only when You switch to underlying window (terminal, for example) and back, text
and buttons are painted. When You click and do steps for installation, You must
"envisible" it everytime by clicking to underlying window and back.
The buttons are active even if invisible -You can click if You know the exact
location ;o)
This was not the problem everytime. In far past (beginning of 2005), it was
working well.
Since We don't know how many apps this bug can affect, I'll better do the
regression testing and tell more.

To answer the question, on most Linux systems here, there is CUPS shared network
printer used for printing. Only about 1/3 PC's have their local printer, and
they share it for others using CUPS.
There is also legacy of Samba shared printers here, but because of problems with
them, we don't use them anymore. We want to get rid of them shared to network,
because CUPS replicates them etc..

Summary: Can't run winecfg anymore
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.5.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-help
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: crbarron_48125(a)yahoo.com
I downloaded and installed 0.9.5 into my Ubuntu Linux system and ran winecfg and
wine several days ago. I had some problems trying to get programs working, but
nothing unexpected occurred until today.
Today I entered the following text and got the following result:
curtis@ubuntu:~$ winecfg
fixme:advapi:CheckTokenMembership (0x4c 0x7fdd6ba8 0x7fadfae0) stub!
fixme:actctx:QueryActCtxW stub!
err:win:CreateWindowExW bad class name L"SysTabControl32"
It happened repeatedly, even after I completely uninstalled Wine (including
configuration files) via the Synaptic Package Manager and reinstalled Wine.
Any idea what's happening?
Thanks.
Curt

I suspect you mean you get the error 0x80020005 - DISP_E_TYPEMISMATCH.
I am guessing it is the same issue that I've already been made aware of - the
app passes in VT_VARIANT to ITypeInfo::Invoke and we are expected to convert it
to VT_VARIANT|VT_BYREF. Of course, without any debug error messages to go on, I
am just guessing...

I just ran the game with
james@james:~/Wine/Games/Icewind Dale II$ WINEDEBUG=+relay wine IWD2.exe &>
relay_log
There were two surprising things. First, the relay output is at about 200Mb, and
it would take ages to upload something as big as that. It might not be
particularly useful either, considering the size.
Second, the game actually ran with WINEDEBUG=+relay, albeit too slow to be
playable, (probably due to all the stuff it's writing to the relay log). This is
very strange.

Thank You for Your time
Althugh I understand some of what You have written ;o)
,let me ask simply: can I (personally) do anything more to help fix the problem?
Please note I'm not programmer..
And second question, what can anyone do (I mean even programmers..)? We can get
some more help, if there is an idea, what can be done. Do You have some plan?

I forward ported fenix's patch to wine-0.9.5, and will attach it.

Fixes should be in WineHQ now (except for the IE registry patch which is more
for testing), so I'm closing this one.

Summary: Strange behavior of directory window in this EditPlus
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
URL: ftp://ftp.editplus.com/epp221_en.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P3
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wsun013.wine(a)gmail.com
Hi,
I am using EditPlus through wine, where the trial version of it can be
download from :
ftp://ftp.editplus.com/epp221_en.exe
The installer works all right, and program can be started without any
problem at all.
Just one strange behavior of it, here is the way to reproduce it
1. start editplus
2. view->make sure the "Directory Window" is ticked
3. browse to any directory which contains more than 3 files
here comes the strange part
4. click any file around the mid of files
5. click any file above the file you just chosed -> you will find that
the selection is more like a CTRL+click in win32
6. click any file below the file you just selected ->then it works as
expect, only one file is selected.
4 to 6 can be repeated and recursive.
Expection of ``normal'' behavior:
one file is chosen at a time, unless the CTRL or Shift-like key is
pressed at the same time.
Thanks in advanced,
Will
