I assume that the Esc menu is a buffer. What happened is that in windowed mode,
wine couldn't lock/unlock the d3ddevice, and as a result, it kept on switching
buffers spasticly.
In full screen mode. it's just fine.

I can confirm this behavior, especially the load process is very, VERY slow. It
takes half an hour on my Athlon XP 2600+ to load the scenario! During this time
the winepreload process is running at 100% cpu usage. I already tried the same
with debug messages disabled, but as Scott already said: it doesn't solve the
problem.
The game speed is okay then.

Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine.dev(a)web.de
With Windows NT, windows did a switch from INI-Files to the Registry.
Older Applications (win9x) use INI-Files with the Functions around
Get[Private]ProfileString (implemented in dlls/kernel/profile.c).
This Set of Functions are Modified with Windows NT in such a way,
that the Informations are redirected to the Registry.
The Redirection is done on all Levels (INI-File, Section and Value) and the
Rules for the Redirection are saved in:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/IniFileMapping
Wine has no support for this and need to change settings twice.
This is a lot of extra code to maintain and also introduce Bugs, when only one
Place is changed. (Example is the Default Printer).

Ok guys, I must say I've put some mistakes in my suggestion.
First, one flag should be '+dsound3d'.
Second - we need '+seh' channel.
Third - maybe we don't need +module trace as it bloats the log.
But I guess you better follow Roberts advise and compare wave-traces. BTW, I'd
add seh and process channels to Roberts trace:
'+winmm,+wave,+driver,+tid,+seh,+process'

Well I've sent in a patch that should fix the first bug the game hits
http://www.winehq.com/pipermail/wine-patches/2005-December/022923.html
however it crashes later on, in the CreateD3DPalette in the findstuff32.dll file
(This is a game dll, not a system one).
The exact crash is
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code
(0x7e687550).
and microsoft has a kb article describing the issue
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q187381/
"In the Colors box, click High Color (16-bit)"
but the wine log shows
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 16
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 16
so chances are findstuff32.dll crashes because it expects the screen BBP to be 16.

Address 0xfffffff4 is evidently a temp. data address used to communicate with
ODBC (Available for download as MDAC_TYP.EXE).
Possible wine fixes:
I'm new to wine hacking but I could suggest adding a debug output when common
database-related messages appear, such as if debug="read access to 0xfffffff4"
echo "Is ODBC (MDAC_TYP) correctly installed?"
Evidently, if you do not install MDAC_TYP.EXE, Liberty installer tries to
install MDAC 2.7, which requires IE > 4.01 SP2 and DCOM98*. DCOM98 installer
often won't work without native ole*.dll...
I haven't tried this yet but some sites suggest compiling UnixODBC for linux and
configuring wine to use that instead of installing Microsoft's MDAC_TYP.EXE
If the above suggestion works, a better "fix" would be to have wine detect the
install of MDAC and automatically download and install the non-M$ alternative,
sort of like what it does for the MozControl.
This could be a duplicate. Lots of ODBC apps out there.

For issue 2: that's ok if resizing with the mouse is not supported, but the
current state is not very elegant (see screenshot)... I could imagine a number
of solutions:
1. on resize, clear that lower part of the window (i.e. erase the garbage), or
2. make it impossible to resize the window to a bigger size than the buffer
(window manager hint), and on resize adjust scroll position so that there's no
empty space (garbage) at the bottom, or
3. make it impossible to resize the window with the mouse altogether

Summary: Batch interface maximum line length still not long

Platform: PC

Severity: major
Priority: P2

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bifferos(a)yahoo.co.uk
This is actually tested with 20051208, but I couldn't put that in as a version
above.
Changing MAXSTRING in batch.c from 1024 -> 2048 makes Zilog ZDS II
Microcontroller Development environment work correctly (See the app. DB for
details). It seems that the IDE executes such long lines (with include paths,
compiler options etc...) that it goes longer than 1024, gets truncated and then
the compiler fails to generate object files correctly, with the message:
Line in batch processing possible truncated. using: ....
I've no idea if my change has any side effects but I haven't noticed any.
I'm not sure exactly what function batch.c performs, I just did a search for the
error message, then attempted to supress it.
As an aside, MSDN says:
"On computers running Microsoft Windows XP or later, the maximum length of the
string that you can use at the command prompt is 8191 characters. On computers
running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0, the maximum length of the
string that you can use at the command prompt is 2047 characters.
This limitation applies to the command line, individual environment variables
(such as the PATH variable) that are inherited by other processes, and all
environment variable expansions. If you use Command Prompt to run batch files,
this limitation also applies to batch file processing."
PS: Another bug is that the text should say 'possibly' instead of possible, but
it's hardly worth reporting separately.

FIXED: Made a fresh wine folder and re-installed liberty. Not sure why it
worked this time. Probably just needed the sidenet registry definitions.
DETAIL
1) installed wine .9.3
2) installed sidenet 1.9.0 from http://sidenet.ddo.jp/winetips/config.html
3) opened up user.reg and change comdlg32 to "builtin" to fix winecfg crash
4) copied over working win98 windows/system/*.dll to c/windows/system32
5) made a script to run regsvr32 on all the .dll files in there.
6) Installed DCOM98 and MDAC_TYP.
7) (Optional?) Installed IE6 and Media Player 9.
8) Installed liberty.

Hello.
I'm using wine to run emule :) (www.emule.ru)
The minor problem is that in search tab text entry (where I should input text to
search) behaviour is wrong.
Suppose I clicked search and then I clicked text entry. This time I can input
words to search.
If then I click combo box and select type of file to search, then I click text
entry, any symbols I input from the keybord are lost somewhere. As a workaround
I have to click at triangle to the right from combo box to input text.
And second, may be realated problem. History of inserted text is not working.
There is no fall down list when I click that triangle.
In any way thank you for your time. And I can use eMule in Linux :)
Peter.

I found how to avoid a crash at the exit of the game.
Well the Bug really is in the dsound.dll.so of Wine ...
Just take a dsound.dll of Windows and use it together with OSS as Sound Driver
(even if you have ALSA)
Then it works great without any crashes - but sound is slower - so you need a
faster computer to enjoy the soundeffects/music - or just disable them in the game!

It apparently crashes when calling Main_DirectDrawSurface_QueryInterface with a
NULL riid, however the game doesn't call it directly because it's a VB game, so
I'm not sure where the bug is. Getting Main_DirectDrawSurface_QueryInterface to
return E_NOINTERFACE on a NULL riid does get it past this point but it crashes
later. I did hope to test this on windows but I'm having problems getting
directx stuff to build with mingw.

Summary: Party Poker lobby window shrunk and can't resize
Product: WineHQ Apps Database
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: website-bugs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chrisvalvino(a)gmail.com
Party Poker installs correctly and initializes fine. In fact, I can even bring
up a table and play on it, but when I log into a table with Party Poker it
minimizes the "lobby" window (which is what it does in Windows), however I like
to play several tables simultaneously and the problem is that the lobby, once
minimized, shrinks to a very small window (probably about 50x50 pixels) and you
can not start up a poker second table.
Information that may be helpful:
-The lobby (and all windows in Party Poker for that matter are not resizable).
-I can access the menu items on the lobby window after it is minimized, but I
can not click on a table to start a new one.
Any ideas on why this is happening? If so, how can it be fixed?
Chris

Accepting the bug.
I really don't know when I'll find time to work on it though (I'm leaving for
the week-end, and next week I'll have only two evenings for building the binary
packages for RH for Wine 0.9.3 and/or 0.9.4 (if AJ releases it by then), and
then it's Christmas and New Year (and I won't be near a computer during that
time)). So no ETA from me on this one, sorry. Having a downloadable app should
help though.
For now, if you're not afraid of building from source, just apply the patch with
-R (reverse), and if it is indeed the patch which broke it (and it probably is,
considering the problem you see), you should have a newer Wine without that
problem, but without the ability to handle Unicode text for some systray functions.

I think it's a known problem with minimizing/restoring any window. Wine doesn't
communicate with window managers (Gnome, KDE, etc) and does not know that window
got minimized or restored. All Wine knows is that window got mapped/unpapped
to/from the screen (showen/hidden).
Try this in virtal desktop mode. If it works then it _is_ the problem.

Yes! It installed. But there is still the point of it not detecting the
Windows version, yet that is perhaps not so important.

Do you really think it has ANY chances working on Wine? I mean you really really
think it might work?
At best this bug can be turned into an msi bug which is a duplicate of Bug 3806.

Summary: Error while installing Virtual PC (installshield)
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.3.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: i386dx(a)hotmail.com
When I try to install Virtual PC (5.2 and 2004) I get the error
"Unable to install Installshield Scripting Runtime" when the operating system
set in winecfg is NT 4.0, 2000, XP, 2003
The error in Console is:
wine setup.exe
fixme:actctx:CreateActCtxW stub!

fixme:advapi:RegisterEventSourceW (L"",L"MsiInstaller"): stub

fixme:advapi:DeregisterEventSource (0xcafe4242) stub
When I use Windows 98 it does work, but I can't install it because the program
(or the installer) needs Win NT +
I also copied the c:\program files\common\installshield\Driver directory of my
Windows 2000 installation to wine's. This directory contains installshield
versions 7,8,9 and 10.

Sorry, I had some changes in my tree that where not committed yet. If you update
now, it should work better.

Ah, the meat of this bug report is then a duplication of a few others.

Sorry for the delay, but I have currently less free time. Anyhow I managed to
track down the patch, which causes the problem. Thanks for your advice and the
hit with shell32. The evil patch is this one:
http://cvs.winehq.org/patch.py?id=21175 (from 2005/11/08 13:57:27). What does
the patch do? Do we really need it? For me everything worked fine without it.
I hope this bug will be fixed in 0.9.4. Thanks!

|
| Is the CVS from tgz archive synced with online CVS?
CVS from tgz contains needed version information, so it is OK.
I think it really helps, because GIT logs were introduced at "Fri Dec 2 09:45:46
CST 2005" [6] and you didn't test patches of that time range.
You only need to ensure if timezones used in your cvs-client and cvs-server are
the same now. I'd say, lets go to the wine-cvs archive of May month [7] and
search for a patch which dates a day number 16 and minute number 42..44.
| If I have found the real patch that has broken things, is anybody willing to
| fix it? Or what shall I do next?
It's hard to say prematurely. Ask developers about that when the patch is found. :)

My €.02:
Earlier I have been using wine-cvs mailing list archives [1] to find a list of
dates I'm interested in. But since the AJ switched from CVS to GIT repository
maintaining, wine-cvs mailing list reports GIT repository times [2], not CVS
repository times, while the same patch in both of them differs by its timestamp.
And I know of no way to retrieve the incremental log for CVS repository.
wine/Changelog file provides only day-precise log information.
Maybe the most nice way here will be to rewrite HowTo, and to switch to GIT on a
client side too.. And if this is the only way, then regression testing will be
hard for a newbies (and other conservative users who use "cvs" command to
maintain Wine tree in their boxes) for a while.

Sorry, I haven't noticed the link above. This time it's mine fault, it could be
just slightly more obvious however.
Well, I'm finally able to do the testing.
Could there be the command, which will set the sources to newest CVS-available,
EXCEPT some selected period of time?
For example I have found the patch that has broken things -could I just cut it
out (in CVS sense) and compile the newest WINE available without it?
This could be interesting temporary solution until bug is solved in main tree..

For some reson after vidio is done, Wine crashes unioading some dlls.

Hello
I am using FC4 x86_64 with wine 0.9.3 compiled from source.
I installed photoshop 7 inside wine and the installation worked fine.
but when I start it it says that it can't be started due to a unrecoverable
hardware error. In the terminal I get this output:

---
As reported here:
http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=ps7
it should work with wine 20050628.
note: msvcp60.dll was missing (error message at startup but seems not to affect
anything) so I copied it into .wine/drive_c/system32 and the error about the
missing dll was gone.
Any other info I can provide?

I doubt any trial will have copy protection, SD won't run without a CD. In any

I've found that, when not functioning properly, after pressing ALT twice (to get
onto the menu and then off again) it returns back to functioning properly again.
It also seems that when, back in normal function, I try ALT-M (something clearly
not registered with a menu) it beeps at me; but when I try ALT-X or ALT-R, two
keys that go dead (which are also not registered with a menu), it does not; and
as ALT-X is the equivalent to CTRL-TAB you would expect that not to work either,
which it doesn't. However, I am yet to find out what the equivalent to ALT-R is,
or even what its function is supposed to be -- it could be 'Search', that's all
I've come up with.
Does this help at all?

I can't get the patch to work. I have patched wine 0.9.3 (at least tryed), added
DWORD registry entries just like was said, added values 16 for BitsPerSamples
and 48000 for the other. When lauching foobar (0.8.3) with directsound output
and try to play something, it crashes. I get this error:
err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr

Wave output still works in that.

This problem still occurs with Wine 0.9.3 (it gets a bit further, but still
crashes). So I reverted to 0.9.2
I discovered that, when another app was blocking /dev/dsp, it worked fine!
So, I now have wine configured with disable audio (It was Alsa, using dmix),
and everything is now happy with 0.9.2 :-)

Greetings,
my first wine bug, so please let me know if I've missed something obvious, or forgot crucial info. Trying
to run windows console app, I get a series of fixmes, and then a memory allocation failure (in the
program). Under winedbg, I get a "first chance exception" and stack dump where it dies. Interestingly, if
I adjust the parameters downward to 155k, so the program uses less memory, there's no crash.
Any ideas? Log is as follows:

Confirming. It would really help if you could do a regression test
(http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/winedev-guide/x1344) to track down the patch
that broke it.
(BTW if you use native shell32, the problem seems to be gone, maybe you could
check if it changes Webmon back to normal:
get shell32, userenv.dll, shlwapi.dll and setupapi.dll from www.dlldump.com if
you have valid windows license, put them in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/
and run with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="shell32,shlwapi,setupapi=n" wine Webmon.exe; The
last 2 dlls seem to be needed for unimplemented calls)

Summary: Access violations using WebMon
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.3.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine(a)discardmail.com
Since wine version 0.9.1 I have problems with WebMon
(http://www.markwell.btinternet.co.uk/webmon/). Every time I start the program I
receive a error like "Access violation at address B7DE6ECC. Read of address
7FC30000." Instead of "WebMon" in the window title there is now "MainFrm" and I
have got no icon in the system tray like usual. Also the check of the webpages
at startup isn't working any longer. When I exit the programm I get an Access
violation error, too (adresses sometimes change).
With wine 0.9 I had no problems using WebMon. Problems started with upgrading to
0.9.1, 0.9.2 wasn't better and now 0.9.3 still contains this bug.
Hopefully this error will be fixed in the next upcoming release. I don't want to
stay at version 0.9. Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
The in-game text that I saw had the effect that the background color of the text
was dark red, with the text color still black.
The correct behaviour is a transparrent background with the text in yellow.
Unfortunately I can't generate in-game text messages. It is just random messages
from the computer opponent, changing his diplomacy level toward me from i.e.:
"neutral" to "enemy".
Regards,
Frikkie Thirion

Source build works now. ./configure wasn't finding my freetype libraries :O
I had to run configure twice. Once without any options and then again with
--x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/lib
I also edited ./configure and put /usr/lib as the path to freetype. I don't
know if this extra step helped, however since I still had to run configure twice.

For Unreal, everytime I start the game fresh it does infact show up windowed,
without the window manager decorations. It basically looks like a 640x480
window, but showing my 1600x1200 display, so its a small window manager
decoration-less box showing about 1/8 of the game screen.
However hitting alt-enter sends it back into the true window mode, showing the
full game in the window (meaning that the game did not start up windowed, but it
was a wine bug). Hitting enter again brings it into 1600x1200 (what I have it
set as) in all its fullscreen glory, and the game works find from there.
In addition, for some reason, if you start winecfg (or possibly any other
application that isnt some bad-ass full screen game) and THEN launch your Unreal
script, the game starts full screen just fine.

ups, really sorry about that!
well, what is happening is, when I run
$ wine ~/.wine/drive_c/virtualfone/VirtFone.exe
wine opens the program window. On this window, I need to select what directory
contains the "TDVA.cfg" file. On this moment,
I have the "fixme:commdlg:GetFileName95 Flags 0x00800000 not yet implemented"
error on wine console.
I select the "TDVA.cfg" file, click on "Select" button, and the program goes on
errors, startint with the
"wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0xfffffff4 at address 0x4f2c24"
I also try run with 0.9.2 version, getting the same version.
But what do you mean with "themes"? I really don't know what is themes... I only
run wine and the .exe file name....

ftp://ftp.bricscad.com/pub/Eng-Us/B4L/readme.htm
explicitly specifies
"It is necessary to install WINE beforehand. Please use a WINE version between
may and august 2005. This build of Bricscad is not compatible with WINE of
september 2005 or later."
Berno, if you want to use Bricscad with a more recent
wine, the windows version is your only option.
Please file a new bug for the installation problems
you're seeing with that.

Communication errors between MPLAB and ICD-2.
At the ICD-2 users manual i found something that maybe help in tracking down
this bug. Even under Windows some users have this problem. Microchip requires
those users to chenge com settings in the windows control panel to the following:
set Flow control to "Hardware", (dont know if this possible under Wine)
and disable using of fifo buffers. ( again dont know if this is possible)

Summary: COM device is not working in ZOC application
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.emtec.com/zoc
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: m.goemmel(a)compulab.de
Using the Serial/Modem device in ZOC (see http://www.emtec.com/zoc or AppDB)
will not work. Connecting a serial modem to a com device will not even makes
it possible to enter AT&F^M and see a valid OK^M result message. As mentioned
in the AppDB, ZOC is very sophisticated when using COMM routines, but if
someone who knows this area in Wine wants to take a look, it would be nice.
If further info is needed, please let me know

No, it's not a M$ special, it's a ZOC special :-) It is a WM_USER+43h message
ZOC is using to do an internal task. I have to correct this inside ZOC...
So CLOSED would be the right status for this...
