I wonder but the demo itselfs does not crash with segfault, it freeze.
beside I am having mutch trouble with wine and Oni,
winecfg and I told wine to create virtual desktop (800x600 for example) and
windows 2000
wine oni.exe and message from Oni the games appears "Blam, Oni crashed"
now winecfg, I picked the Oni.exe and told wine to set a virtual desktop just
for oni.exe (800x600) and win2000
the intro runs and after the intro oni(the demo) freeze the games crash with
segfault
when I try to run again oni.exe -> "Blam, Oni crashed"
winecfg remove oni.exe settings -> game run and freeze after intro
beside under real windows xp sp2 oni always says "Blam, Oni crashed"

Things get complicated.
I compile the CVS 2005-05-26 14:44:00 CDT (the bad one, if U remember)
and set the native for odbccp32.dll in config file. It WORKS!
However, if I compile 0.9.3 with "native" set, bug is there.
Seems to me as if the patch I detected was not the only that has broken things.
But since I cannot reverse patch more recent versions, it will be wuite
difficult to find out, which other patch is doing bad here.
The only thing I can catch on for now is different behaviour of error that
appears from 200506 (see #5).
I suspect that it's possible, that the patch that has further broken things
could be the one that disallows me to reverse-patch. I'll see.

Yes, I'm using alsa, but I have working alsa sound in other things under wine
(starcraft for one).. Its a lil difficult to switch to oss, it dont work with
my logitech usb headset, so i disabled it at my last kernel recompile, yes even
the oss emulation.. didnt see any need for it, i only use sound in wine and for
my mp3's...

Another note.. If you change the options so that the car chase (1st) test
doesnt ever run, the app error doesnt pop up when it goes to run the dragothic
(2nd) test , but if you leave the car chase enabled, and disable dragothic, then
the app error appears before the lobby (3rd) test.. Seems to be something about
switching modes that wine doesnt like.
This is all still with native, will still retest all of this with builtin once
the regresion has been found and fixed.

Ok, well now with native msvcrt, the program doesnt die after the app error..
Since I cant get the app to run with builtin, I cant tell for sure if it was
msvcrt that caused that change or not, but we will find out tomorrow.

this doesnt just apply to movies, so its something in the way vlc is opening the

Anyone got an idea for a WINEDBG variable i could set?

This is a two-part installer: the EXE you download pops up a (non-working)
progress bar while it downloads an MSI file. The EXE fails, and the MSI also
fails when I try to run msiexec.exe on it.
The EXE can be downloaded here:
http://www.elliemae.com/products/los_encompass_pe_download.asp You have to fill
out the form, but you can just put in fake info and then get the download link
from the next page. If this isn't possible for some reason, let me know and I
can provide the EXE and/or MSI.

yes, you are right, diablo ii should work by itself, and if it does, then that
is fine, but some people (myself included) need to use a no-cd patch due to
lost/stolen/damaged discs, even though they have a legit key (myself included
again).. unfortunately, due to the aforementioned circumstances of missing
discs, i cannot install diablo ii at this time. when i get around to it, i will
download a copy or burn a friend's copy and use my key, and test this.. for
right now though, since the most recent reporter hasn't responded in some time,
we will resolve this bug as abandoned.
if this issue persists, please feel free to reopen.

After thinging about this. It doesn't look like as such a good idea after all
really.
All you will have is lots of meta bugs with no games. It would be hard to track
the progress (if any one will do it). Users wont's be able to tell what
protection system is it. And for us yo filter then makes no sense really.

Sorry I meant "Resolving FIXED"
When the fix is in CVS then it should be marked RESOLVED (Which is what I did,
but not what I said).
The next step is for the person who posted the bug to mark it as VERIFIED when
the next release is out (or when he has updated to the latest cvs)
So far waiting for people to verifiy bugs before marking CLOSED is almost
impossible since so few people actually mark their bugs as verified.
Please mark this as VERIFIED or reopen it as appropriate.

Tony, seems like we shouldn't close bugs until
there's been a release (like 0.9.4) and
the original poster verifies the bug is fixed
in the release.
The Wine community needs to agree on a workflow...
all this closing of bugs without the original poster's
involvement is unsettling.

I finally got IE6 SP1 to install on AMD64 FC4_64 so maybe this will help others.
For some reason I needed native advpack which wasn't mentioned anywhere.
Sidenet and winetools won't work either, until I edit the scripts to add native
advpack.
$ wine --version (Wine 0.9.3)
$ winecfg (set global version to win98)
$ WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ole32=n" wine DCOM98.EXE
$ WINEDLLOVERRIDES="advpack=n" wine IE6Setup.exe
I guess the goal is to get the installer working without:
* Setting global windows version to win98 (Secure pages won't load under 2000)
* Native DCOM (installer crashes without it on my box)
* Native advpack (installer crashes without it. Could these be separate bugs?)

This demo also has a regression (i guess it's the same patch that broke your

This is not a bug and pleas use mail lists/irc to ask this questions.
On the topic, you can copy whole compiled source tree. Or you can compile Wine
outside the source tree:
cd .. && mkdir wine-build && cd wine-build
../wine/configure && make.....
Also you don't have to install wine, you can run it from the source/build tree:
/path/to/the/tree/wine blah.exe
And please refer to developer's guide on winehq.org

Yes, Peto - Wine project is changing fast! This is the reason you cannot
exclude patches of some time range very simply. It ofter requires analytical
skills.
And that's why I told you to do cvs update near these patches. Or more exactly,
to update at '2005-05-16 14:44:00' and try reversing patches only then.
But now that you have found this patch (which was already mentioned by Tony),
you have workaround for the CVS Wine, I believe. set odbccp32 to native-DLL or
no-DLL in WINEDLLOVERRIDES:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES='odbccp32=n' wine ...
or
WINEDLLOVERRIDES='odbccp32=' wine ...
If the stuff works, this should confirm your finding. If so, try running
without overrides and use 'odbc' debug channel. Some text/string debug channel
would be helpfull but I don't know which one. Maybe try '+string', '+text' or
'+nls'. or all :) combined together:
WINEDEBUG='+odbc,+string,+text,+nls' wine ...
If you notice garbage in the log, the preceeding lines may give info on what
function of builtin ODBCCP32.DLL behaves wrong.
BTW, I prematurely say sorry, because all these are just my wild guesses. Maybe
all of them are wrong and you will require "+relay" log near the place where
garbage is introduced. Here I am weak tutorialer. :-/

Created new repository in /usr/src/wine-cvs/wine
Set the date
went to
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2005-May/015490.html
Right clicked at Patch, downloaded it into /usr/src/wine-cvs/wine as odbccp32.py
file
then ran
cat odbccp32.py | patch -Rp0
It complains that
"can't find file to patch at input line 31"
and requires me to specify file. Entering the odbccp32.py again dosen't help.
"Perhaps you used wrong -p or --strip option?"

Confirming. Seems you have stripped debug info from your wine-package so i'll
attach the crash with debuginfo. Following obvious patch (hack) makes the
installer proceed and the app seems to be installed fine, but i don't know if
it's an acceptable patch. Problem seems to be that pszDir is NULL, which makes
it crash in shell32. Maybe a shell32 guru can shed a light on this :)

I can confirm this behavior, especially the load process is very, VERY slow. It
takes half an hour on my Athlon XP 2600+ to load the scenario! During this time
the winepreload process is running at 100% cpu usage. I already tried the same
with debug messages disabled, but as Scott already said: it doesn't solve the
problem.
The game speed is okay then.

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine.dev(a)web.de
With Windows NT, windows did a switch from INI-Files to the Registry.
Older Applications (win9x) use INI-Files with the Functions around
Get[Private]ProfileString (implemented in dlls/kernel/profile.c).
This Set of Functions are Modified with Windows NT in such a way,
that the Informations are redirected to the Registry.
The Redirection is done on all Levels (INI-File, Section and Value) and the
Rules for the Redirection are saved in:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/IniFileMapping
Wine has no support for this and need to change settings twice.
This is a lot of extra code to maintain and also introduce Bugs, when only one
Place is changed. (Example is the Default Printer).

Ok guys, I must say I've put some mistakes in my suggestion.
First, one flag should be '+dsound3d'.
Second - we need '+seh' channel.
Third - maybe we don't need +module trace as it bloats the log.
But I guess you better follow Roberts advise and compare wave-traces. BTW, I'd
add seh and process channels to Roberts trace:
'+winmm,+wave,+driver,+tid,+seh,+process'

Well I've sent in a patch that should fix the first bug the game hits
http://www.winehq.com/pipermail/wine-patches/2005-December/022923.html
however it crashes later on, in the CreateD3DPalette in the findstuff32.dll file
(This is a game dll, not a system one).
The exact crash is
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code
(0x7e687550).
and microsoft has a kb article describing the issue
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q187381/
"In the Colors box, click High Color (16-bit)"
but the wine log shows
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 16
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_desktop_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 16
so chances are findstuff32.dll crashes because it expects the screen BBP to be 16.

I should note that most current distros, such as Fedora come with UnixODBC

Address 0xfffffff4 is evidently a temp. data address used to communicate with
ODBC (Available for download as MDAC_TYP.EXE).
Possible wine fixes:
I'm new to wine hacking but I could suggest adding a debug output when common
database-related messages appear, such as if debug="read access to 0xfffffff4"
echo "Is ODBC (MDAC_TYP) correctly installed?"
Evidently, if you do not install MDAC_TYP.EXE, Liberty installer tries to
install MDAC 2.7, which requires IE > 4.01 SP2 and DCOM98*. DCOM98 installer
often won't work without native ole*.dll...
I haven't tried this yet but some sites suggest compiling UnixODBC for linux and
configuring wine to use that instead of installing Microsoft's MDAC_TYP.EXE
If the above suggestion works, a better "fix" would be to have wine detect the
install of MDAC and automatically download and install the non-M$ alternative,
sort of like what it does for the MozControl.
This could be a duplicate. Lots of ODBC apps out there.

For issue 2: that's ok if resizing with the mouse is not supported, but the
current state is not very elegant (see screenshot)... I could imagine a number
of solutions:
1. on resize, clear that lower part of the window (i.e. erase the garbage), or
2. make it impossible to resize the window to a bigger size than the buffer
(window manager hint), and on resize adjust scroll position so that there's no
empty space (garbage) at the bottom, or
3. make it impossible to resize the window with the mouse altogether

Summary: Batch interface maximum line length still not long

This is actually tested with 20051208, but I couldn't put that in as a version
above.
Changing MAXSTRING in batch.c from 1024 -> 2048 makes Zilog ZDS II
Microcontroller Development environment work correctly (See the app. DB for
details). It seems that the IDE executes such long lines (with include paths,
compiler options etc...) that it goes longer than 1024, gets truncated and then
the compiler fails to generate object files correctly, with the message:
Line in batch processing possible truncated. using: ....
I've no idea if my change has any side effects but I haven't noticed any.
I'm not sure exactly what function batch.c performs, I just did a search for the
error message, then attempted to supress it.
As an aside, MSDN says:
"On computers running Microsoft Windows XP or later, the maximum length of the
string that you can use at the command prompt is 8191 characters. On computers
running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0, the maximum length of the
string that you can use at the command prompt is 2047 characters.
This limitation applies to the command line, individual environment variables
(such as the PATH variable) that are inherited by other processes, and all
environment variable expansions. If you use Command Prompt to run batch files,
this limitation also applies to batch file processing."
PS: Another bug is that the text should say 'possibly' instead of possible, but
it's hardly worth reporting separately.

FIXED: Made a fresh wine folder and re-installed liberty. Not sure why it
worked this time. Probably just needed the sidenet registry definitions.
DETAIL
1) installed wine .9.3
2) installed sidenet 1.9.0 from http://sidenet.ddo.jp/winetips/config.html
3) opened up user.reg and change comdlg32 to "builtin" to fix winecfg crash
4) copied over working win98 windows/system/*.dll to c/windows/system32
5) made a script to run regsvr32 on all the .dll files in there.
6) Installed DCOM98 and MDAC_TYP.
7) (Optional?) Installed IE6 and Media Player 9.
8) Installed liberty.
NOT TESTED

Summary: text entry behavior is broken. cursor is lost in some

Hello.
I'm using wine to run emule :) (www.emule.ru)
The minor problem is that in search tab text entry (where I should input text to
search) behaviour is wrong.
Suppose I clicked search and then I clicked text entry. This time I can input
words to search.
If then I click combo box and select type of file to search, then I click text
entry, any symbols I input from the keybord are lost somewhere. As a workaround
I have to click at triangle to the right from combo box to input text.
And second, may be realated problem. History of inserted text is not working.
There is no fall down list when I click that triangle.
In any way thank you for your time. And I can use eMule in Linux :)
Peter.

I found how to avoid a crash at the exit of the game.
Well the Bug really is in the dsound.dll.so of Wine ...
Just take a dsound.dll of Windows and use it together with OSS as Sound Driver
(even if you have ALSA)
Then it works great without any crashes - but sound is slower - so you need a
faster computer to enjoy the soundeffects/music - or just disable them in the game!

It apparently crashes when calling Main_DirectDrawSurface_QueryInterface with a
NULL riid, however the game doesn't call it directly because it's a VB game, so
I'm not sure where the bug is. Getting Main_DirectDrawSurface_QueryInterface to
return E_NOINTERFACE on a NULL riid does get it past this point but it crashes
later. I did hope to test this on windows but I'm having problems getting
directx stuff to build with mingw.

Summary: Party Poker lobby window shrunk and can't resize
Product: WineHQ Apps Database
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: website-bugs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: chrisvalvino(a)gmail.com
Party Poker installs correctly and initializes fine. In fact, I can even bring
up a table and play on it, but when I log into a table with Party Poker it
minimizes the "lobby" window (which is what it does in Windows), however I like
to play several tables simultaneously and the problem is that the lobby, once
minimized, shrinks to a very small window (probably about 50x50 pixels) and you
can not start up a poker second table.
Information that may be helpful:
-The lobby (and all windows in Party Poker for that matter are not resizable).
-I can access the menu items on the lobby window after it is minimized, but I
can not click on a table to start a new one.
Any ideas on why this is happening? If so, how can it be fixed?
Chris

Accepting the bug.
I really don't know when I'll find time to work on it though (I'm leaving for
the week-end, and next week I'll have only two evenings for building the binary
packages for RH for Wine 0.9.3 and/or 0.9.4 (if AJ releases it by then), and
then it's Christmas and New Year (and I won't be near a computer during that
time)). So no ETA from me on this one, sorry. Having a downloadable app should
help though.
For now, if you're not afraid of building from source, just apply the patch with
-R (reverse), and if it is indeed the patch which broke it (and it probably is,
considering the problem you see), you should have a newer Wine without that
problem, but without the ability to handle Unicode text for some systray functions.

I think it's a known problem with minimizing/restoring any window. Wine doesn't
communicate with window managers (Gnome, KDE, etc) and does not know that window
got minimized or restored. All Wine knows is that window got mapped/unpapped
to/from the screen (showen/hidden).
Try this in virtal desktop mode. If it works then it _is_ the problem.

|
| Is the CVS from tgz archive synced with online CVS?
CVS from tgz contains needed version information, so it is OK.
I think it really helps, because GIT logs were introduced at "Fri Dec 2 09:45:46
CST 2005" [6] and you didn't test patches of that time range.
You only need to ensure if timezones used in your cvs-client and cvs-server are
the same now. I'd say, lets go to the wine-cvs archive of May month [7] and
search for a patch which dates a day number 16 and minute number 42..44.
| If I have found the real patch that has broken things, is anybody willing to
| fix it? Or what shall I do next?
It's hard to say prematurely. Ask developers about that when the patch is found. :)

Louis: Since I'm cvs lama, Your advice is of no help for me. Could You be more
verbose, please?
For example I have found that bug has been introduced between 2005-05-16

Now how can I compile the newest wine so that I can get rid of patch that has
broken things and is of mentioned interval?
What do You suggest, how can I do that and could it be part of howto too, please?

We should definitely change the howto to explain regression testing with git,
it's a *lot* easier, git-bisect takes care of everything for you.

My €.02:
Earlier I have been using wine-cvs mailing list archives [1] to find a list of
dates I'm interested in. But since the AJ switched from CVS to GIT repository
maintaining, wine-cvs mailing list reports GIT repository times [2], not CVS
repository times, while the same patch in both of them differs by its timestamp.
And I know of no way to retrieve the incremental log for CVS repository.
wine/Changelog file provides only day-precise log information.
Maybe the most nice way here will be to rewrite HowTo, and to switch to GIT on a
client side too.. And if this is the only way, then regression testing will be
hard for a newbies (and other conservative users who use "cvs" command to
maintain Wine tree in their boxes) for a while.

Sorry, I haven't noticed the link above. This time it's mine fault, it could be
just slightly more obvious however.
Well, I'm finally able to do the testing.
Could there be the command, which will set the sources to newest CVS-available,
EXCEPT some selected period of time?
For example I have found the patch that has broken things -could I just cut it
out (in CVS sense) and compile the newest WINE available without it?
This could be interesting temporary solution until bug is solved in main tree..
