Is there something with the application that doesn't work? If so, please change
the bug to reflect that. If all you want to do is get rid of the messages, then
set an environment variable:
WINEDEBUG=fixme-all
If you are actually going to write code to implement the items in the fixmes,
then get a CVS copy of Wine and start writing.
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/wine-devel/index
Otherwise, please do not file bugs on fixme messages. They are not considered bugs.

As you already have debug outputs showing this problem, i can confirm this bug.
As far as voting for the bugs, it seems that we should only need 1 vote, so I
will talk to jeremy about it tonight, and see if i can convince him to change it.

Wine was fixed already for some long time (I didn't report this, sorry), but
recently it broke again in the same way.
I am sending unified diff (with large context to not miss startup info) of two

Outputs were generated by setting WINEDEBUG=+ddraw,+x11settings.

Dustin, thanks for the tutorial. I just have voted for my own bug. yeah! :-]
Ivan, as I've told your bugreport, you may want walking back from date of
"2005/03/21 06:37:00" to the past in your CVS tree. Or you may try using
official Wine release 20050310. This should render Diablo UI being more usable.
The offending patch [1] is OK AFAIK, but X11DRV library should be tuned up more
to get Diablo1 alive and kicking. I hope this to happen soon.
And yes, Ivan, thanks for correcting me: I need to switch with Alt-Tab (to next
application) and not to the next workspace using Ctrl-Alt-Tab (which doesn't
help much).
And after yesterday's cvs-update I am unable to run the game at all. It says
being unable to set some video mode or so. Hence, updating yet another, similar
old bug [2] created by me and reporting to it.

Jason, it would help us greatly to know the name of the app, and where we could
get a demo/trial copy (if available). If it does this for all apps, please let
us know so we can try to figure out what is going on with your copy of wine.
Also, if this program worked in a previous copy of wine, please post which
version it last worked in (to the best of your knowledge), and if you don't know
if it ever did, just say so.
I should also note that we are in the middle of overhauling our window code, so
that _could_ be the cause of the problem, but it is not guaranteed that that is
the reason.
Please answer the questions above and we can get to work on trying to squash
this bug.

go with mike's advice for now. they are in the middle of a big rewrite of
window management, so it could be that until this gets done, we are going to get
a lot of bugs like this. Perhaps we should put a note in wwn about that..
Something along the lines of "As many of you know we are in the process of doing
a major overhaul to the wine windowing code. As this progresses, we expect many
regressions to occur, but most of them should be fixed when this is complete.
Please continue to report bugs, but expect that this will get worse before it
gets better, with most applications having problems at one point or another."
should do...
As far as the length of time for completion of the overhaul... Think about how
long it took to do dll separation... now multiply that by 1.5... or think
adding strict to the compile and multiply that by 5...
lol

I expect this is because X11 windows are only used for toplevels now. If so then
it was a known and expected regression. Try asking on wine-devel about it.
If it's because of the WM rewrite then it won't be easy to fix. New X server
features will be needed.

Wine 20050419+Oliver's big patch
Max Payne 2 uses a lot of full-screen single-colour blending effects that
usually fade in and/or out. In Wine, these effects are rendered as full opacity,
making it impossible to see if you're getting shot.
During Part 3 Prologue, there is a point where the screen is blended with a dark
red at low opactiy. This effect does not go away until you get to a certain
point (where it MAY change to a differend blend). It is impossible to see where
you are going and thus the game is rendered unplayable. Fortunately you can
still escape to the menu.
There are no err or fixme messages for this problem.

If you are using unpatched version of Diablo (v1.00), then you could try going
back before the date of "2005/03/21 06:37:00" to avoid the patch [1]. In these,
old times Diablo1 was running quite fine. It just needed to press Space key two
times: once to skip the intro and the second time to skip non-interactive Diablo
Logo screen and to get to Diablo Primary Menu screen.
Then if you move mouse pointer over the the Diablo animated fire (top of screen)
or hover it over the menu items, an animation starts being redrawn as the
pointer position changes. Quite usable stuff.
Of course, by switching from one screen to another you need to redraw these
blackouts. To do this I am switching from current workspace to the next one and
back in my BlackBox (Ctrl-Alt-Tab twice).
Need to mention, my version of the game (Spawned one) is unable to load already
created characters. It can only to create them.
I agree this is somewhat mess, but if you apply the patch [1], things get messed
up alot more: Primary Menu isn't being drawn at all, on Character Selection Menu
there is some stuff too, which isn't being redrawn.
BTW, I have already entered similar bug. You can try confirming it so it gets
accepted. :-)

Okay, well I don't really have a CD inserted - but I have a mounted iso,
and it doesn't like that. Cedega has no problem with the iso.
Also, I think I tried with the CD some time ago, and it did the same thing.
Diablo 1 is an ancient game, so I doubt copy protection would be a problem.
Upon running Diablo, It goes to fullscreen, and I see a black box (which should
be textured, not black), on a black background, asking me to inser the CD (OK |
CANCEL). Retrying does not help, and Cancel reports:
"Diablo was unable to open a required file.... run SETUP.EXE again...
The problem occured while trying to load file: diabldat.mpq"

First thing would be to go to http://wine-devel.org/site/forums and subscribe to
the wine devel mailing list. There you can talk with all of the developers
themselves. Then just ask if someone can take a look at the bug. Basically, if
the game worked before, and it isnt working now, you can do a cvs regression
test to try and find the patch that caused the game to start crashing, but since
you said you are new, it probably did not work before. Once you subscribe, I
will send you an email tomorrow evening to try and get some more information.
For now, if you know that the game developer has a demo version of the game
available for download, please post a link to that here, and one of the
developers can at least try to run that. If that runs, then this confirms that
it is most likely a copy protection issue. If not, they will ask you to run
wine with certain command line args that might possibly help find the function
that is causing the crash. Either way, a good place to get started is the wine
FAQ's, especially ones related to development, testing, and contributing to the
wine project, as they give you the general guidelines for posting to the
different mailing lists, should you decide to make a patch. Another place to
look if you arent too familiar with linux is google. Try googling cvs commands
and diff commands to get a feel for how the patching system works, and how to
get the most up to the minute copy of wine. If you can't find anything there,
just ask and someone can give you exact command lines to do the same..

get you to do a regression test to find the patch that caused this problem? It
is simple enough, if you know what you are doing.. Keep us posted.

Stephen, this isnt necessarily a copy protection problem, this could be any
number of things. Before you try something like that, could you please tell us
what happens when you try to start the game? Do any game-related windows pop
up? If so, what do they say? Most of the time, if it is related to the copy
protection that game makers put in their software to prevent unauthorized
duplication, the game will pop up a window asking you to either "remove the
debugger" or "insert the game cd". Do you get either of those problems? If not
I will have you run wine with some command line parameters to try and see if we
can see what is causing the error.
You are on the right track to providing a good bug report, but it lacks a few
key things that we (the people monitoring the posts to bugzilla) look for to
determine who it is that the problem needs to be sent to, so once you answer
those questions, I will be more than happy to help you with your problem.

I see the same (cf. bug 2320). In my MDI application it overdraws everything
within the main window: child windows including the caption bar, toolbars and
status bars. Actually, here it only overdraws everything with the (OpenGL)
background colour and the actual drawing seems to be correctly clipped (though
it might to be a bit too low).

Summary: Menubar disappears in OpenGL program
Product: Wine

Platform: Other

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

When using the WeatherScope program in Wine-20050211, the menubar is not
visible. I can sometimes get the menubar to become visible if I switch focus to
a different window, like an xterm, but the menubar disappears when I switch
focus back to WeatherScope. I am still able to access the menus that are on the
menubar by clicking the area where a given menu should be. This problem does
not appear with Wine-20050111 and earlier. The problem also appears in both
Wine-20050310 and Wine-20050419.
Weatherscope is avaiable at: (Free for non-commercial and educational use.)

Frikkie, please ignore my last post, as I was not paying attention to all of the
details of this bug. The summary says that this game crashes when you try
loading a saved game. I was thinking it crashed when you tried to start the game.
You have made a good bug report, and I will forward it on to the appropriate
people. It does ssem a little odd though that the game would crash even under
windows 2000 when trying to load a save file.
This report unfortunately does not show up what is causing the unhandled
exception. Let me check with someone about what winedebug flags to set to get
the right output, and I will have you set them.
Also, in case you get a huge output (in excess of 500 lines or about 2 mb),
please save the output to a log file, and if it is less than 4 mb, add it as a
file attachment.
If it is more than that, find where the unhandled exception is, and take 500
lines before and after it, and put them in a new file, and attach that file
here. A small debug output like the one you posted already is fine, but when
they get much bigger than this it becomes hard to view the bug notes, and even
harder to try and find the problem in the output.

Hi. You said this crash also happens under a real copy of windows 2000, but
that setting wine's winver to win98 doesnt seem to have much effect. Did you
mean it happens when wine's winver is set to win2k or win98, or did you mean
that you tried it on real windows 98, and it works there, but not on real
windows 2000. And it doesnt work at all under wine, regardless of the windows
version.

luca, can you provide us with some info about the program? What is the name?
Is it open source? If so, where can the program and/or it's source be
downloaded from? If not, can the program be freely downloaded? If so where
from, and if not then is there a trial version? If so (again lol) where can
that be gotten from?
What command are you running to run the program? What is the program supposed
to do and if it shows any windows before it crashes, what do the windows output
(if anything)?
These things help in categorizing the bug and assigning it to the proper people,
as well as help in figuring out the cause of the bug.

Well... ...here it comes ;-)
It's a patch against last friday's cvs. I haven't done extensive testing (due to
lack of time), but I've tried several fullscreen apps, and all of them seems to
get proper input focus now, although it seems to have brought some problems of
its own (like tooltip "windows" with titlebar and so...). That's the part of
"contributing" I mentioned in my post ;-)
PS => As you can see, the patch itself is kinda small... ...but in my defense,
I've got to say that I learnt XLib programming last friday ;-)

Summary: Crosshair cursor display problems with LTspice /
SwitcherCAD III
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: jens-wine(a)spamfreemail.de
Hello,
two problems with an application that (according to their developers) is "wine
compatible". In the current version, which can be downloaded from
http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/LTspice, when the mouse cursor becomes a
crosshair (to draw wires) the crosshair is drawn all over the screen, and not
removed when you move the mouse.
Screenshot: www.jensbenecke.de/temp/swcad-wine.png
This did not occur with a release of LTspice from 2003, which I can provide
(if you want to debug both versions to see what functions are called).
I'm not sure what component to assign this to, because I don't know what part
of Wine is responsible for drawing the "crosshair" mouse cursor.
Thanks,
Jens

Ivan, in this case you were right to report it here, it was my carelessness that
made me type the last message to you, and for that I offer my apologies. As you
see, I have noted to the bugzilla admin what the problem is and what the
solution is, but only he can go and make the changes. This apparently affects
every app in the appdb, and quite frankly I am surprised that nobody has caught
it before. Nevertheless though, he will have it fixed as soon as he is able to
get in there and take a look.

Jeremy, he is right. I had to change the url listed in his bug to get it to
show up. Currently the appdb link is looking for bug_file_loc as appdb%202095
for his specific bug which is appdb space appdb_id_number.. Correct link would
be bug_file_loc=appId(whatever equals is)2095 or appId equals appdb_id_number...
May the force be with you ;-)

I didn't type anything - this is not related to the other bug which you closed.
This is the App DB - it has a button to search bugzilla. If you go
to Games -> First Person Shooter -> Half Life 2, and click on
Search All Bugs, it doesn't find my bug. It says that the link is established
via the URL field, but I have the correct URL, and it's not found.

Ivan, please report these things to the wine-devel list first, as they may not
always be bugs. If it is found to be one, we can go ahead and open up a bug.
In this case, what did you type in to try and find your bug (under the "Summary:
contains all of the words/strings" line)?
Im not having any problem finding it when I type in Half Life 2. In fact, its
the only bug in the list.

It just crashes, and doesn't get anywhere.
I tried to investigate some time ago, and found out
the problem has something to do with requesting the second CD.
I just wanted to have a place to track progress, as MSI features
are implemented. I can retest against cvs continually.

Summary: winrar in wine crashes when trying to paste a password

Product: Wine
Version: 20050310
Platform: PC

Component: wine-binary

ReportedBy: hisraeli(a)zahav.net.il
CC: hisraeli(a)zahav.net.il
I'm running winrar in wine. In the dialog window to enter a password, I try
pressing ctrl-v to paste the long and complicated password into the box, but
when I do this, it crashes. I tried doing it similarly by pressing both
mouse-buttons, and it crashed as well. Then I noticed that just clicking the
right-button in that window crashes it as well.
The error message I get in the terminal is:
----------
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 1 (X_CreateWindow)
Serial number of failed request: 498
Current serial number in output stream: 499
Wine failed with return code 1
----------
I believe this is a fairly new bug that must have crept in with a recent apt-get
upgrade (I use Debian SID), as I used to be able to paste passwords in with no
problem.
Thanks for your help.

Javier, this seems like the copy protection for the program you are trying to
use is not implemented in wine at this time. Unfortunately I cannot say when it
will be, only that one day we hope to have it. In the mean time, you can try
using WineX (http://www.transgaming.com) or looking for some sort of patch that
removes these calls to the vxd's you showed above. (Like a no-cd patch would do
for a game).

This is not a copy protection related error. Bearshare is a p2p application, so
it has no use for copy protection. Reporter, can you reproduce the problem on a

Edward, when you say that you tested with WineX, are you talking about WineX CVS
or the WineX binaries that you pay $5 a month for? If you have tested it with
WineX CVS only, then you have not tested it against a version of wine that
supports copy protection (the cvs winex doesnt include that). If you have
tested it against the binaries, though, that is another story. Seems to me that
this is copy protection related, as the only reason a game would try to load up
softice vxd's is to check and see if the copy protection has been tampered with.
Attaching to copy protection metabug. If this turns out to not be related to
that, please remove it.

What you have read is most likely correct, wine does support some copy
protection schemes, but any that are unsupported are likely to throw this
message or one of any number of other similar ones ("Please insert the Original
CD", etc). Seems that this one is probably not supported and wont be for some
time. You have two options.
1) Try a no-cd patch and see if you still get that message. If not, it will
probably still die, so if it does, please open a new bug for that issue, and if
it runs, great!
2) Try WineX (google it). It is a version of wine (not made by us) that has
licensing deals with the major copy protection companies, and is designed with
gaming being the number 1 priority, so it is more likely to run it regardless of
whether a no-cd patch is used or not.
Also, if you do decide to try the no-cd patch, whether it works or not, could
you post a note back in here with the result, so that we can know for sure that
it is copy protection?
Hope that helps.

I posted this bug with version 20050310, but it was closed because I was unable
to install CVS and do the research to figure out exactly when the bug was
introduced.
Under version 20050211, msmoney 6.0 runs fine. When I installed 20050310 from

When running msmoney 6.0, I get the following. I am *not* a Wine developer in
any way, so I have no clue how to pick through every CVS update since 20050211

When I am using the paradise poker client (http://paradisepoker.com) and hovers
over an user button the tooltip pops up and steals focus which is really
annoying. It also gets shown as a normal window without decorations which makes
it shown in the toolbar. I think it should be an override redirect window
instead of a normal
window.
It worked before 20050310 release (except the bug that made it not autohide).

I'm already working on it ATM, unfortunately the full version uses safedisk 1
copy protection and that makes things tricky, it will take some time to fix, but
work is in progress. Unless there's been a regression recently, the trial
version should work, even if it's too slow to be playable.
Don't worry about reporting details on this bug, I've got the game mysel, I may
have a patch for you in a few weeks, even if I don't know how long it will take
to get it into mainstream CVS.

Right now, it's just plan ugly, but I got keyboard focus in fullscreen windows...
Anyone interested in testing/contributing to it?

Summary: last-modified information not sent, not even with images
Product: WineHQ Apps Database
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
URL: http://appdb.winehq.com
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: website-bugs
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lamber45(a)cse.msu.edu
In the app database, there are a number of objects for which we have a
historical modification time and which shouldn't get changed very often, but
the PHP scripts always set the "no-cache" header and otherwise make sure that
they aren cached. In particular, /appimage.php (the screenshot viewer) sets
the following headers on a positive lookup:
Set-Cookie: whq_appdb=91649fe42c6dbd10991df9899e4cfa7b; expires=Thu, 21-Jul-05
14:47:31 GMT; path=/
Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT
Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0
Pragma: no-cache
Note the absence of a Last-Modified: header, the cookie, and the Cache-Control:
line. Since the URL includes "id" (which is the primary key of the appData
table) and a parameter for "thumbnail", there is no reason for these headers in
the response. Instead, the Last-Modified: header ought to be the modification
time (i.e., upload time) of the underlying image file, and it would be best to
also send:
Cache-Control: public
along with the response.
Furthermore, it should be OK to optimize the response to "HEAD" requests by
checking the REQUEST_METHOD CGI variable. At present, the script would not
need to do any image-processing, just:
1. Check whether the URL is valid
2. Check that the image is in the database
3. Get the file's access-time, and look for a JPEG or PNG header
4. Make sure it is public, or that the user (verified by the login cookie) is
an administrator. (This will prevent spam.)

Apparently this bug not only applies to starcraft (which should have been a
given anyways), as when dimitire and I last spoke about this issue a couple of
years ago, we realized it is something in the way unicode programs use treeview.
According to the notes for bug 2815:
When the browse for folders dialog is displayed there are no folders in it
except desktop. This means it is not possible to select any folders.
When using DVDShrink and then selecting open files this dialog is displayed but
it is impossible to use the program because one cannot select a directory
containing DVD files.
I don;t have Linux installed on my computer yet, so in the mean time, Dimitrie,
if you are still active on the wine list, could you work with the reporter of
bug 2815, and see about the difficulty of doing a workaround? I'm sure much has
changed since the patch that broke this went in, but at least we do have
confirmed reports that this is still an issue..

Debug output of working and not working Wine versions
The last version that ran UT-based games was 20041201. I compared
the debug output of this and 20050419 and I think the attached file shows
where it goes wrong. Maybe it helps, I _really_ hope for a fix.

Summary: Problems with OleCreateFromFile
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sdl(a)propco.co.uk
My application makes use of Winword.exe and allows the user to edit documents
inside my application framework.
Application is VisualC++ app created with MSVC 6.0 SP6.
Upon calling COleClientItem::CreateFromFile which in turn calls the
OleCreateFromFile, I get the error DV_E_FORMATETC (0x80040064).
This can also be tested using the CL32TEST.EXE which is distributed with MSVC
6.0 as an ole test program. From this utility select Insert->Embed from file,
select any word document and it fails in the same way.

Is there a known workaround?

Summary: SHCoCreateInstance class not found in registry when
writing to an AVI file
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ndumais(a)sympatico.ca
I get this error when trying to save an AVI file with VFAPIConv.exe
It's broken since Wine 2004-12-01 (2004-10-19 and earlier are ok). Tried with
CVS and same problem.
err:shell:SHCoCreateInstance failed (0x800401f0) to create CLSID:
{00020000-0000-0000-c000-000000000046} (Microsoft AVI Files) IID:
{00020020-0000-0000-c000-000000000046} (unknown)
err:shell:SHCoCreateInstance class not found in registry
It doesn't seem to be a registry problem since I does this error with: a clean
registry from a fresh install or the old registry that the software used to work
with wine 2004-10-19
Software needed to re-create the error:
DVD2AVI:http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd2av…
VFAPI Codec/converter: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software2.htm
Steps:
1- Open a MPEG-2 stream in DVD2AVI (eg: .VOB file)
2- Go to File-->Save Project and save it, then close DVD2AVI
3- Open VFAPICodec and click on Add file
4- Select the project file (.d2v) you saved with DVD2AVI and click Open
5- A window should appear, Click on OK
6- Click on the Convert button
Right now you should have the error in the console (and also Error Saving File
in VFAPI Reader). Versions 1.04 and 1.05 of VFAPI Reader do the same error.
Expected result:
It should create a small AVI file in the same folder as the DVD2AVI project file
without any errors.

Summary: 3 bug reports ... on 40tude Dialog
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P3
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: zhilla(a)spymac.com
first this: i'd say this is kinda important since 40tude dialog is one of the
best and most popular newsreaders. and freeware, well not open source, but it's
a good piece of software.
what's missing to it to work allmost perfectly??
1. it does not show in xorg taskbar. once, few month ago, it did. using
slackware 10.1, but same thing on 10. xorg versions: 6.7, 6.8.1, 6.8.2... and,
btw. when i try to dock it using kdocker, it says its not a normal window.
2. using hr (croatian) keyboard. when composing a post, pressing "delete" button
does not delete next character, instead it outputs ",".
UPDATE: i just realised this happends in ALL, and ONLY in wine apps for some
reason.
3. when editing post, deleting a line makes lines below it be pulled up - and
mostly if last line is deleted and post end line is deleted. this is not
refreshed properly, but switching to another window and going beck refreshes it.
try for yourself :) i am not an expert, but i think 40tude uses some sort of
richedit control...
otherwise, works quite nice... lot of ugly (especially toolbar!) bugs have been
fixed recently. iron this out, and you can put it in golden section :)

Summary: Typing problem
Product: Wine
Version: 20050310
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.sysreset.com
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P1
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ngompa12(a)hotmail.com
No matter what windows application I use, it will not allow me to input more
than 4 keys. However, that only happens when that paragraph symbol shows up.
It will show that you typed more than 4 keys, but it only sends 4 keys--the
first 4 keys. But no error shows up, so it might be a bug built in the program,
so i do not know which component to say is the problem, and I used Windows 98 SE
to power the codes. I tried it then with Windows XP libs and the same thing
happened. I used Red Hat Linux 9, with kernel 2.4.20-31.9 (upgraded from
2.4.20-8). This is a very serious problem. I also tried to do the same thing in
Knoppix 3.8.1, but it would happen also. Please solve this problem as soon as
possible, I wish I knew more about this problem, but this is the best I can do.
I guessed wine-binary because it seems to be the problem....

On X11 multi-head configurations, in particular Xinerama) the Windows Apps see
only one (big) monitor. I'd suggest to map the Xinerama monitor layout to the
monitor layout provided by Windows in native Windows multi-head configurations.

[Sorry if this is the wrong component - I'm not sure which is best]
I have followed various FAQs on setting up WINE to run the free Xnews
newsreader. However despite following these FAQs to the letter, Xnews does not
run correctly. If I double click a newsgroup, it attempts to connect. But then
does nothing more, including no screen updates although CPU usage goes to 100%.
Sometimes I can recover it somewhat if I press ctrl-c, or sometimes that doesn't
work and the windows still don't repaint, or sometimes it results in a spew of
messages in the terminal I started it with of:
err:syslevel:_EnterSysLevel (0x7766d500, level 2): Holding 0x77562d40, level 3.
Expect deadlock!
I have tried using native DLLs from both Win98 and WinXP, but the behaviour is
identical. My wine config was:
-=-=-=-=-=-

-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-
The commented DLLs are other native DLLs I tried.
I also reverted to the 20050211 snapshot RPM but that didn't help. Given other
comments from people on how it "just worked", I suspect it's some regression in
Wine somewhere. But unfortunately I cannot obtain older RPMs.

The issue with connecting to the wrong host might have been fixed in CVS,
because IPTraf showed no connections made to 56.0.0.0. I'm not sure, however,
since I can't find the rule that I had made in IPTables to get around the
problem, and thus cannot remove it. iptables -L returns no lines that contain
6900. The game does not crash after loading either.
The only problem now is the mouse sensitivity being way low, and stuff being
slower than it is when run under XP.
I'll close this since I'm pretty sure that it is working correctly.

I have to figure out why patches I send to wine-patches are silently

Since wine version 20040813 operations with files do not work properly in Lotus
Notes 6.5.1. When you try to access some file for attachment, embeding (picture)
or selecting, wine crashes. Version 20040813 is most stable with Lotus Notes
6.5.1 for now but still crashes with Create picture in richtext field.
The most problematic is that mail is not usable under wine, cause there are a
lot of attachments there.

Alright, that patch is definitely a great step in the right direction. However,
the text areas of the date/time boxes seem to have some updating issues. Try
cycling the digits so that you change the number of digits in one of the
numbers, like going from april to october (ie. 4/11/2005 to 10/11/2005). You
end up with a bit of a garbled mess until you click somewhere, which I guess
forces an update. Also, you can't type in a number to set it, while you can on
windows.
Thanks for working on this.

that DTS_TIMEFORMAT is a two bit field. So this change fixes it so that the date

Still several bugs though. I don't know yet why the arrows don't show up; they
do in control spy. SPY++ shows they were instantiated, so they may be off the

don't work, but using the arrow keys on the keyboard does work.

You just do 'WINEDEBUG=+winsock,+wininet,+tid wine YourApplication.exe 2>
log_file.txt' and attach the (gzipped if it's too big) 'log_file.txt' file to
this bug report.
If the 'error' is at the beginning of the application, you can even do a
'WINEDEBUG=+relay,+winsock,+wininet,+tid wine You...'. But this time you WILL
have to gzip it as it will really be huge.
I will try on my box the SakRay clients (only tried the 'normal' ones for now).

wine c:\\Program\ Files\\WeatherSoft\\WeatherScope.exe
works okay. But the command:
wine c:/Program\ Files/WeatherSoft/WeatherScope.exe
will crash. Hopefully this is just poor coding within the program itself, and
not something in Wine. From the backtrace, that looks like it might be the case.

Which version of RO are you using ? On my box, it's working just fine (both the
patcher and the game itself).
Anyway, could you attach a +wininet,+winsock trace to this bug report so that we
can check how the game tries to connect to this IP address ?

Platform: PC

AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

When trying to run the game Ragnarok Online under WINE, it never connects to
the server. Using a GRF extracter shows that the client tries to connect to an
ip address(this one connects to 67.18.209.218:6900). Using IPTraf shows a
connection being opened to 56.0.0.0:6900. There are no error messages related
to networking being displayed on the console. I don't know what other stuff
this effects, since some parts of WINE work, but this should never happen.

Well, this is the classical problem with Windows SDL games and Wine. Basically,
whatever the application requests, SDL initializes DInput (which makes the mouse
wrap due to relative mouse movements emulation).
After, if the game only requires absolute coords, SDL does not 'ungrab' the
mouse but rather uses standard Win32 APIs to get the position.
This is not supported in Wine (yet).
If I find out how to get the game to even start, I may try to take a look at it,
but I do not promise to find a way that pleases AJ (as it may be a bit of a hack
in the X11DRV).

I would disagree with the goals remark, here's why: Cedega's goal is to run
games, mainly, and the applications that support them. WineHQ's goal is to run
all Windows applications, libraries, and possibly down the road allow for
expanding to other things like drivers, etc.
Cedega's goal is with-in WineHQ's goal. I would, say, for example, agree with
you if WineHQ's goals were to only run games and the applications that support
them, and Cedega visa-versa.
When I received comments such as the ones I have made when I was an unpaid
open source developer, I would give the same responses I have received. The
responses are all valid and I respect them. The biggest problem, though, in
this situation is that we do know that a clean (non-kernel, non-real-time
priority) solution exists.
I downloaded the source to aRts (the sound server for KDE, as I'm sure
everyone knows already) and modified the file soundserver/artswrapper.c to
work with wine. Unfortunately it seems there is some kind of a problem as it's
not able to get real-time support from the kernel (or whatever gives real-time
priority). Obviously this wouldn't be a permanent fix, but it would (to some
extent) excersize the theoretical "fix" that was posted on wine-devel.
The question with that fix though is: Cedega doesn't require root privilages
after install (e.g. run-time), nor does it require the SUID=0 bit. This proves
to me that there IS another option. I wish I had more knowledge of sound
servers, buffers, and all of the various audio I/O stuff so that I could help,
but I don't. (It would be nice if Stefan [Westerfeld] from the aRts project
could investigate this since this used to be more of a problem with aRts back
in the KDE 2.x days)

Well, I think it's just that Wine's and Cedega's goals are different (or rather
the goal of the Cedega developpers and Wine's 'unpaid' ones). While Cedega
developpers do their code to please their clients (so that they keep being
subscribed), Wine developpers do it for their own reasons.
So even if a Wine developper may know how to fix the issue, he may not do it
just, for example, if he does not finds the solution clean enough or too hacky.
I.e. he would think 'well, we need this and that feature from the kernel so
that Wine can implement this thread prioritisation feature properly' and not
take the time to implement a hacky way that would maybe only fix one special
case to make some gamers happy.
And I do not know if they have an AJ on board that only accepts 'nice and clean'
patches to the tree or if they put 'it's ugly but if fixes application X'
patches in their trees :-)

Thank you for your response on this.
I'll give you a little background of my own as far as CS is concerned. I was a
programmer (mainly for KDE) for years up until the point where I become more
extroverted (social, etc) and had less time for programming. So, I do have a
lot of programming experience under my belt, as well as a good understanding
of how multiple open (or closed) source projects indirectly (e.g. Gnome and
KDE, WineHQ and Cedega) and directly (can't think of any examples off the top
of my head) compete.
Competition is good for everyone, even if you do all of your open source
programming on your own, unpaid time. As a KDE programmer, I saw Gnome (as
well as other various window managers, etc) keep us aware of what we are, and
aren't lacking. I think KDE was a big player in accelerating C++ on linux
(combreloc, etc).
On that note (now that I've given my speech), I would like to impress that
Cedega doesn't seem to have these problems, even under heavy load. As a matter
of fact, when Cedega is given a lesser or greater priority (negative or high
positives), it doesn't affect the sound processing at all. It's been like that
for a while (as long as I can remember using Cedega).
So, based off of my speech above: in comparison to Cedega, why do the WineHQ
developers find it such an impossible task (e.g. they don't have the tools
available to them, or the kernel is lacking, etc)? That's not really a
question to be answered to me, it's more of a question for the developers to
ponder to themselves - there is a way, a practical way.
I'd love to dive into the source and try to find the problem, but - like most
large projects - it would take me much time to just get used to the "WineHQ
Way", formatting, and the fact that it's C, not C++. I think there are other
ways that I can assist everyone in this matter - possibly more as a public
relations person? I could discuss the possibility of Transgaming releasing
their ideoligy for fixing the dsound problems, but dsound support is part of
their proud flag-ship: full DirectX support - so that may be impractical.
I seem to be spending all of my free time playing the game (which is what I'd
ideally like to do :P ), but I can sacrafice time to help out everyone else,
and myself, in order to fix all aspects of WoW working correctly.
Thanks again for your response and assignment as "NEW".

I can confirm this bug for you but as far as the rest, uhm, well you see the way
things work is that there are no component owners. That might not ever change.
Beyond that the real issue is that the reason that the buffer underruns happen
is that there is no practical way to currently increase a threads priority on
linux. That means that at times the process that is supposed to keep the buffer
full sometimes gets starved of processing time. The technicalities involved have
been discused many times on the Wine-devel mailing list. The most resent one is
here. (SetProcessClass and SetThreadPriority support)
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-devel/2005/04/0080.html
It is not realy that it "keeps getting shrugged off as a system issue" there are
people (more knowledgeable than myself) that are concerned about it. In the mean
time I will confirm the bug.

There are sufficient reports to verify this bug. Could this bug please be
assigned to the owner of the dsound component? This problem has been going on
for quite sometime now on various systems and it keeps getting shrugged off as
a system issue - there ARE serious problems with the buffering on wine's
dsound dll. If there is any information that you need from me, please let me
know.
