I think the problem reported by this bug must be fixed then, as you seemed to
have some success. Note the err message about find data has just been fixed in
patch http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-patches/2005/04/0009.html
Resolving as fixed, but if this problem returns then just reopen

problem and the small length issue, but also flagging this as fixed as the

requires modification of inluded headers, so there is no way to fix this without

dlls/wined3d/directx.c rev 1.22 date: 2005/01/31 16:34:07 author: julliard

active.

But a question for the original reporter: I also have the problem that in combat

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Component: wine-tools
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wine.dev(a)web.de
For automatic tests, almost every Script should be aware of WINEDEBUG
(parsing stdout)
A modified Version of wineprefixcreate is aware of Class "TRACE, ERR and FIXME"
with Channels "all" and "wineprefixcreate", even if mixed
example: WINEDEBUG="+all:TRACE-all:TRACE+wineprefixcreate"
Is a Guideline nessesary for a naming to prevent problems, when a script calls
another script?
Actual I'm testing with the prefix "wp_" (variable) and "WP_" (function).
examples: wp_scriptname, wp_do_err, wp_do_trace and wp_do_fixme and
replacing "echo" with WP_TRACE, WP_ERR or WP_FIXME
Using the complete Scriptname instead of a Prefix need more typing/filesize but
allow different Channels in a script.

The lastest version of Gentoo sources I can find is 2.4.28-r8 are you using the
normal sources, or the hardended versions?
On my 2.4.28-r8 I removed CONFIG_2GB, I tried CONFIG_3GB, I tried CONFIG_1GB but
everytime I ended up with a kernel that would boot but just hung the machine
trying to start X. As soon as I can get 2.4.39 I will give it a try.
Cheers

Ok, I have installed the last wine CVS(20050310)
More and more is working all the time :)
Now the MultiPoker installation gets almost to the end, but then I get a popup

another window over it, then that graphic will be the background).
If I try to close the window, I get "Window belonging to wine is not

Running locally built VB 6 applications the minimize button is missing.
Probably related, the application is not shown on the task bar. Every
application I have written is the same (almost a dozen different programs).
When using the Crystal Reports module included with VB6, the report window has
these missing components (min button and taskbar icon).

I've tried rewinding my source tree back to 20040121, but it still failed. This
sounds unlikely to me, because I'm sure this app was working more recently than
that. However, my tool-chain is choking when trying to compile earlier versions.

Hello
I installed an original 2.4.29 kernel
It didn't even seem to accept the CONFIG_2GB option
(I made a "make oldconfig" on the Gentoo's .config file)
Is CONFIG_2GB a Gentoo special?
I don't get the error:
"err:heap:HEAP_CreateSystemHeap system heap base address 0x80000000 not available"
Very good!
But wine "C:\\Program Files\\MultiPoker\\MultiPoker.exe" still doesn't work.
I get:

fixme:advapi:GetOldestEventLogRecord :stub
fixme:advapi:GetNumberOfEventLogRecords stub

fixme:advapi:ReadEventLogA stub
fixme:advapi:ReadEventLogA stub
fixme:advapi:ReadEventLogA stub
fixme:advapi:ReadEventLogA stub
....
I don't have that much time tonight, but can you get me some tip on what to
do.
Do I need to recompile wine?
I will try to reinstall MultiPoker, since it also got ".... 0x80000000 not
available" on the install.
And perhaps try a clean wine directory tree, and registry.
I also tried:
wine ./dcom98.exe
No wine error's
I got "A newer version of DCOM98..."
(I don't know what is supposed to happen in that case)

The type is always a VARIANT for each parameters of each method, so it seems
that something goes wrong when reading the type-library.
I've no idea about the iternal structure of a type library, if you can provide
me a link to some docs, I can try do debug it myself.
The "reverse engineering" way seems to me a bit challenging...

I was having the same problem with World of Warcraft until I came across a forum
post somewhere about renicing the wine-preloader process. Making wine-preloader
lowest priority (renice 19) fixed 99.9% of the stuttering for me without any
side-effects I could see (both OSS-via-alsa and native ALSA wine driver)
Perhaps this bug should be called "why does wine-preloader take 100% CPU"?

Summary: Japanese Keyboard layout not correct
Product: Wine
Version: 20050310
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: Aric.Cyr(a)gmail.com
I was having a mysterious problem with my Japanese 106 keyboard in World of
Warcraft. The keyboard worked just fine when logging into the game or typing
messages in game, etc. However, using the macro keys for the quickbar (1 2 3
... 0) each of the keys was off by one. The keys were mapped as:
1 = 1
2 = 1
3 = 2
4 = 3
5 = 4
...
Notice that the 1 and 2 key both mapped to one, and every key after that maps to
the previous key. This only occured for the top keyboard row and text input
fields all worked correctly (which was the mysterious part).
Anyways, I tracked down the problem to the keyboard layout for jp106 in the
x11drv/keyboard.c. For Japanese keyboards, the first printable character on the
keyboard is '1' (as the shown in the main_key_JA_jp106[MAIN_LEN][4] array).
However, the jp106 keyboard is defined to use the regular qwerty scan and vkey
maps, which seem to define the first key as OEM, not '1'. I believe this was
causing my off-by-one key problem, so created a new jp106 qwerty scan and vkey
map to fix the problem. I have tested the patch with World of Warcraft, and
indeed my keys are now all mapped correctly. I am not familiar with the
keyboard stuff too much, so let me know if there are any problems with the
patch, otherwise please commit it.

Hmm, seemingly the date is local time (CET/CEST). At least I get a shift of one
hour compared with yesterday (summer time/daylight-saving time started this
night)...
Anyway, I could trace the CRASH down to a single patch
wine/dlls/user/edit.c "Implemented !ES_AUTO[HV]SCROLL."
cvs -q up -PdA -D2005.02.25.13.59.30
=> Shows splash screen (only window border, not content) and opens up main
window. -- Then nothing happens (100% CPU load).
cvs -q up -PdA -D2005.02.25.14.00.00
P dlls/user/edit.c
=> http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-cvs/2005/02/0506.html
=> It shows the splash window (no content neither) and then crashes with a
memory-access error.
Next task is to find the regression between the endless loop and the working
program.

I think those two versions (6.0 and 7.5) differ a lot.
Using cvs update -Pd -D.... I see the following behaviour:
20050225: Works
2005.02.25.12.50.00: Does not crash, but seems to hang in a loop
2005.02.25.13.00.00: It crashes with a memory access error

OK. I have downloaded the latest from CVS (20050310), compiled, (fine without
error, nice job guys!) applied patch to ./dlls/msvcrt/file.c, recompiled.
Then it shuts up the error messages that I was getting from mingw cross-compiled
programs (from libg2c endfile.c). Thus the fix works at least as far as getting
rid of the crashes on mingw executables. That's success for me!

I did an implementation of _chsize (see attachment) using win32
primitives because that's how msvcrt is implemented in Wine. So
we can't use ftruncate straight away like you suggested although
in the end that API is called to truncate a file. This happens
in Wine's ntdll where win32 primitives are implemented on top of
Unix APIs.
Can you test this patch and report back?

_chsize, the windows equivalent of ftruncate is not currently implemented in
msvcrt.dll. As a result some trivial programs, notably ones that are produced
from mingw (but this is hardly mingw's fault) break.
In principle, implementation of _chsize is trivial, since it is the same as
ftruncate. However, elsewhere in wine there are macro definitions that
#define _chsize ftruncate
Then if you try to implement (or work around) _chsize by calls to ftruncate, you
are screwed because it references back to _chsize.

I am working with Mandrake 10.2 Cooker and wine-20050310, compiled from
scratch. When running PVAStrumento 2.1.0.13, I have the following problem:
When I open the "open input file" dialog ('...' button right of the 'input
stream box'), the window is correctly displayed for a short moment and then gets
fully grey. Clicking on aereas with dialog elements (buttons, list window, etc.)
makes the selected item appear, and the dialog behaves correctly.
With wine-20041019-mdk the dialog is displayed properly.
The problem is the same with older versions of PVAStrumento.

Hi all,
Wine 20040716, winetools-211jo
I installed winetools, created a new .wine/, installed DCOM, Internet Explorer 6
, Windows Installer, MDAC 2.8 German (all via winetools). I had to run IE
installation twice (it failed the first time).
I copied msado15.dll and oledb32.dll from my windows directory, but I believe
this would not have beed necessary (regsvr32 failed anyway).
Then I installed EasyTax ZH directly from CD (including MDAC), ran wineboot, and
lo, it works... almost.
Meaning: It runs, I can enter data, save the file, all perfect, but it crashes
upon printing. I have not tried printing anything else from WINE yet though,
have to check the configuration first. I will get back on this one.
In my case this was the Zurich edition (which cannot be downloaded from the web)
, but I think they should be identical.

This exists since the creation of richedit20 up to today's CVS version.
While Krystof's richedit20 produces rather nice results, there are still some
loose ends. One which bothers me most is that tabs are drawn as rectangles which
does not help with the legibilty of the text.
Expected: Instead of the rectangle there is some whitespace (e.g. " "); ideally
, of cause, would be tabs or even obaying the set tabstops. But anything better
than the [] would be really appreciated.

[regression] the beta character, which was correctly shown a couple of days ago,
is now also only a box [other crystal, not visible in the screenshot].)

Add the following two lines to WTSEnumerateSessionsA in wtsapi32.c:
*pCount = 0;

With this, I get the "fixme:wtsapi:" messages, but it does NOT crash and does
NOT give any superfluous errors!
Maybe all the functions in this file should have similar lines added.

------- Additional Comments From a_villacis(a)palosanto.com 2005-23-03 11:33 -------
The review for the code continues, now with the second bug.
The second problem is a cryptic "Runtime error 13 - Type mismatch" before the
main GUI is displayed. This second problem cripples the GUI beyond usability
(not even the menus work). Last night I traced the problem to the way an
underflowing negative float was converted into a string.
This program's GUI has two textboxes in which the integer and fractional part of
the gain are displayed. In order to fill them for the first time, the program
extracts the integer and fractional part of the value stored in the registry.
For the fractional part, a series of truncating and rounding are performed on
the original value, followed by a floating-point subtraction. When no values
are stored in the registry (as it is on the very first run), the substraction
is supposed to yield a floating-point zero, but instead produces a very small
negative number (something in the order of -1e-300 to -1e-400). The code
assigns the number to the Text property of a TextBox control, which implicitly
invokes the TextBox_Change event. It is at this stage where things turn nasty.
The root cause is a difference between the way native and builtin oleaut32
handle the conversion of a negative underflow. With a number in the range
mentioned in the preceeding paragraph, native oleaut32 decides it is too close
to a zero, and yields the string "0". Builtin oleaut32 does the same, except
that the negative sign is left behind, and it yields the string "-0". This
difference is significant when the code in TextBox_Change invokes a routine
that (expecting an unsigned integer) keeps just the first character of the
textbox string ("0" for native oleaut32, "-" for builtin oleaut32). Then a
string-to-float conversion is attempted on the string, which naturally fails
for the single dash.
The solution is to disallow negative zeroes from ever being returned from a
string-to-float conversion.

To set up screen resolution etc. use wine ./rb.exe --setup. Thiws will create

Hi,
well this need more investigation (for keyboard).
as you can see in alloc_device:
<snip>
EnterCriticalSection(&keyboard_crit);
if (!keyboard_users++)
keyboard_hook = SetWindowsHookExW( WH_KEYBOARD_LL, KeyboardCallback,
DINPUT_instance, 0 );
LeaveCriticalSection(&keyboard_crit);
<snip>
so keyboad_hook should be ok on first allocation (but for you dont seems).
Can you attach a zip who contains game + data + cfg.
I can't get it running :( (complaining about missing room datas)
I will analyse.
For mouse problems, seems you game use mouse wrap. Usually used when game use
game handled cursor (but no handled by wine dx for now, so you continue see
wine cursor instead game one)
This need to enhance/implement "mouse icon" support
Regards,

As was said above, the idea of a bug is something we can fix whereas a fixme
may just be missing functionality but not cause you any problems. You list 2
specific problems, which is more the aim of these (although I would generally
say one per bug please), ie
- Sometimes the program closes out
- when you go into the data area it doesnt show the paths
What happens when the program 'closes out' - what gets logged in the console?

I think the problem described is that the code goes into an infinite loop
if the top item in the treeview is 'selected' and any key is pressed
since it fails when the wrap point == the search end location.
I have a patch for this, submitting soon

Ok, I managed to get keyboard running, too.
I found out by doing heavy TRACE calls, that the WH_KEYBOARD_LL Hook was never
called. the I saw in the debug log that there are some Acquire/Unacquire calls.
While the mouse stuff then does UnhookWindowsHookEx and SetWindowsHookExW,
the keyboard stuff did not.
When I finally put
keyboard_hook = SetWindowsHookExW( WH_KEYBOARD_LL, KeyboardCallback,
DINPUT_instance, 0 );
at the end of SysKeyboardAImpl_Acquire()
and
UnhookWindowsHookEx( keyboard_hook );
keyboard_hook = 0;
at the end of SysKeyboardAImpl_Unacquire()
it worked!
Any comments?

The bug has appeared with version 20050211.
I've tried all previous versions until the bug appears.
It's present in versions 20050211 and 20050310.
I don't know how to find where the patches are in the cvs tree.
I suspect a regression because in my case it worked until version 20050211.
Or it's perhaps some change has been made for another problem.
Could you tell/direct me to an howto find the patches. I'll try to do my best.
This bug needs to be corrected because it will enable to test directx/opengl
either natively supported by wine, or with win4lin.
My test shows that directx 9 works with wine+windows. Very interesting for
games. The sim runs at 120 frames per second instead of 8 fps under wine !!!.
Not so bad and playable, a good beginning.
I would like to try an directx patch from http://oliverthered.f2s.com/projects/wine/
that seems very promizing, but I need my sim working on 20050310 with the com1 port.
Thanks.

I have been reviewing what happens when MP3GainGUI starts up that triggers the
first of the errors (the dialog box that claims mp3gain.exe could not be found).
The source code of MP3GainGUI has been helpful for this.
MP3GainGui tries to invoke mp3gain.exe at startup in order to get the program
version. This backend reports its version on stdout when invoked with a /v
switch. So, the VB frontend opens a pipe and connects the backend stdout to it
in order to read the version string from it. Since the routine to fetch a
program's stdout is a generic one, and the execution of the program might take
a while, the routine polls for available data from the pipe (much in the way the
select() call is used in Unix) before reading, and calls DoEvents (a VB keyword
that yields control to the GUI in order to process window events) if no data
is available. The function called to poll for available data is PeekNamedPipe(),
with a (supposedly) NULL buffer pointer, and a buffer length of zero. The Wine
implementation of PeekNamedPipe() checks for a NULL pointer before attempting
to read data from the pipe with recv() and the MSG_PEEK flag.
The problem arises because the VB frontend fails at specifying a NULL pointer
for the buffer pointer of PeekNamedPipe(). Because of some poorly-documented
rule about the way an Any parameter in VB behaves, the attempt to pass a
literal 0& (which is, as far as I can remeber, an equivalent of "0L" in C) to
the lpBuffer parameter (declared as Any in the VB file) does NOT translate into
a NULL pointer, but to a non-NULL pointer that points to the zero value (or so
I think). Then PeekNamedPipe() receives a non-NULL pointer, which it interprets
as a valid buffer, and fails to check that the buffer length is set to 0, so it
end up trying to perform a zero-length peek on an invalid buffer with recv().
This operation is (apparently) not supported, and so it says in the errno value.
The PeekNamedPipe() function should check for the buffer length as well as the
buffer pointer before trying to perform the recv() peek on the pipe.

Summary: Keyboard/Mouse does not work on AGS games
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-dinput
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: mteske(a)imagnos.com
on games constructed with AGS, the AdventureGameStudio,
keyboard and mouse do not work correctly.
1. The mouse always stays in the center of the screen. This I could fix by
commenting out (as of now) line 786 of dlls/dinput/mouse.c:
SetCursorPos( This->mapped_center.x, This->mapped_center.y );
Of course I don't know if that's a valid fix, so I post a bug here for help on
how to debug/fix it properly.
2. Keyboard input does not work at all. although the window gets the events from
X11 (I see them with WINEDEBUG=key) they do not reach dinput (Nothing is seen
on keyboard input and WINEDEBUG=dinput except initialization).
A short Example for such a game can be downloaded under
http://www.bigbluecup.com/games.php?action=detail&id=8
Called "Rob Blanc 1".
To get it running under wine, after unzipping one needs to create a file
acsetup.cfg with e.g. the following contents:
---- cut ----
[misc]
cachemax=5120
screenres=1
windowed=1
forceletterbox=0
antialias=0
[sound]
digiid=-1
midiid=-1

This permits afpro to run using opengl and directx

afpro-good is the trace when working with wine 20050111
afpro-bad is the trace when not finding the dongle on com1 port with wine 20050211
In the bad trace, there are ioctl errors.
I think there has been a regression between the two versions.

I've just downloaded a demo of the game and I'm not experiencing this crash.
I can enter the menu but there are some problems later though...

I don't understand what is the bug.
The fact that DrawDibProfileDisplay is a stub does not mean there is a bug.
What's wrong with this app ?

I just downloaded this program. I was able to install and run this program
without any problems. The program works fine when I have it in desktop mode but
if I run it full screen the "Icons" show up as windows as described.
I am going to resolve WORKS for me since I beleive that the only reasoable way
of running this program is in it's own desktop.

Uses clipboard and one must turn on/off the "Monitor Clipboard" option to read

I tried to compile from the CVS. After a few hours of scrolling text, the
compile failed. I'm just going to stick with V.20050211 until the next version
comes out as an rpm. Maybe the bad patch that calls IPersistStream_fnLoad will
get fixed by then.
