The game crashes early after starting when using the DX11 renderer:

...
Native d3dx11_42.dll is a workaround, but the game crashes later because of
some other lacking feature or bug in Wine's d3d11 implementation. Fortunately
the game offers DX9 mode which runs properly.

it seems d3dcompiler hlsl error is common for some dx11/dx9 games from wine
bugzilla, for Assassins Creed III / IV must switch to native d3dcompiler_43 to
avoid startup black window and must work with dxvk to avoid startup crash.
dxvk work almost perfect for most games i tested, with buildin dx11
implementation i always meet crashing or very low fps.
so if wined3d implementation port to vulkan driver including dx9~12 will
natural avoid many crashing, unimplementation, is it?
regards.

AMD Mecha Demo, uses DX11 and demonstrates use of OIT (order indepdenent
transparency), using per-pixel linked list. To implement it, demo uses atomic
counter in shaders.
Reproduced with Wine Staging 1.12.1, with Mesa 19.2.0-rc2, and Mesa
19.3.0-devel.
Demo works correctly when run using DXVK 1.4.1.
Before starting the demo, I suggest editing a Sushi.ini file to reduce
resolution and make it windowed. Even then you might need to kill it if it
becomes extremely slow.

+d3d_shader log of the suspected cause
This is on nvidia proprietary driver (although it seems to be replicated by
other users based on
[this](https://forum.kingdomcomerpg.com/t/linux-running-kc-d-with-wine/41173)
topic in the official games forum and is likely not hardware-dependent).
The bug occurs on 3.3, 3.3-staging (the new 3.x rebased fork), and
2.21-staging.
Basically, when the main character (and only him - NPCs with torches do not
seem to be affected) pulls out his torch from the inventory, no illumination is
produced. To be more precise, the illumination effect appears to be there but
blocked by something in front of the character; moving the point of view from
left to right very quickly shows the effect I'm talking about - the
illumination will briefly appear on the left/right but disappears as soon as
the movement stops.
I - perhaps mistakenly - assumed it may be a shader issue because the only
relevant log output when it occurs is a series of shader fixmes; the lines in
question only appear when the torch is enabled. I've attached a log of the
relevant section of the output with +d3d_shader to this bug report.

In game gamma settings are not having any affect on the game, and the gamma
reverts to 1.0 at all times, no matter what adjustments are set. I also ran
xrandr to preset the gamma, before launching wine 3.3 staging, and noticed that
it dropped the gamma back to 1.0 and would never change, even when the gamma
slider on the advanced settings tab in game was adjusted. since stable wine can
not launch WoW, I can not explicitly say if the problem is a patch, or the main
branch of wine.

Bug ID: 49377
Summary: Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory crashes when connecting
to a server running mod ETPro.
Product: Wine
Version: 5.0
Hardware: x86-64
OS: Mac OS X
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: bpnet.b3(a)gmail.com
Created attachment 67437
--> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=67437
Console output
When connecting to a server that's running Etpro mod the game crashes. In more
detail, when the game connects to a server running Etpro mod it's able to
download (if not already in your game folder) server specific files: map that's
being played, mod files and server configuration. After there's no other file
to download the game gets stuck displaying "Awaiting gamestate..." and crashes.
On the other hand, the game is able to connect to servers running other mods
such as Jaymod, Silent and others. So far the only mod I'm aware is failing is
Etpro. Moreover, the game is able to load Etpro mod from its main window: Mods
> Etpro > Load Mod.
The game is available for free from its developers page:
https://www.splashdamage.com/games/wolfenstein-enemy-territory/
A list of of active ETPro public servers:
https://www.crossfire.nu/threads/48131/etpro-public-servers
When the game is launched to connect to a specific server just open the game
console pressing the ~ key (above TAB) and type "/connect
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:yyyyy".

Apologies, I am a complete noob so I'm most likely reporting this incorrectly.
The program error states that it could be an issue with the .exe or Wine (I'm
using the stable version).
64bit Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
The .exe is apparently developed for both 32 and 64 bit OSs.
Back trace attached.
I recently ditched Microsoft for Linux completely cold turkey so I'm still
getting to grips with how things work. I'm not exactly a techtard so I should
be able to give you all the information you need.
This is a paid app so I'm hoping there's a fix.

It starts working for me when you temporary move the window out of the screen
which means the bug is still there. Maybe Plasma makes app receive additional

Hi
I had pretty old Fedora 18 om my laptop with wine 1.6.x, where I was able to
launch successfully Age of Empires II: Forgotten Empires. Furthermore, I was
able to launch it in such a way that I used my external monitor as the primary
output i.e. the game was on the external monitor.
I upgraded recently to Fedora 22, which comes with wine 1.7.44, and (at least)
Age of Empires II does not launch anymore on the external monitor. Wine crashes
with the "page fault" error (see more comments below). Interestingly enough, if
I use laptop screen as the primary output, it works without problems.
I downgraded wine to 1.7.5, same issue. However, once I installed wine 1.6.1,
it started to work on the external monitor without any problem! So, I heavily
suspect that this is 1.7.x series issue. I ufortunately cannot say whether it
is somehow specific to Age of Empires II and/or my video card. If needed, I can
try other games.
Coming back to the "page fault" error itself.. Based on my personal programming
experience, it looks like some uninitialized pointer because there were a few
rare cases when wine 1.7.x actually started on the external monitor!! The
success rate was however quite low, maybe 1 out of 20. What I noticed is that
the first launch after reboot has a high probability of succeeding, but all the
next runs always fail.
With best regards,
Alex

This is not a bug. But this is suggestion for an improvement. Wine would be
more user friendly if we could add this functionality.
Until now, when we open winecfg tab library and choose a dll from the list of
overwritable dll's, then we do not know, if there is really a "nativ dll" in
our prefix. And if wine can find it.
So when a particular program does not work correctly in wine it could be, that
it is just, because wine can not find the dll we have overritten.
Suggestion:
When we select a dll for overriding and wine can not access it, wine should
display a warning message right after we select the DLL.
Alternatively you could implement an additional button called "Check access to
native dll's" in the library register.
This way we were able to check if wine really can find the native dll's when
selecting the dll's. Or if we have to copy one in.

Some gog installers are visible in Gnome-shell preview, but some are not.
_NET_WM_STATE(ATOM) = _NET_WM_STATE_SKIP_TASKBAR - cause that this windows
aren't shown.
This maybe is "correct" behavior but is very it's very annoying and hard to
find correct window when this flag is set, so maybe this flag should be
forbidden.

Hearthstone Deck Tracker installer crash
At some point new version of HDT started asking for .NET 4.7.2 or newer and
refused to start anymore. Installed dotnet472 with winetricks. Did not work
properly and crashed.
Then did create new fresh wineprefix as this and tried to install fresh HDT:
WINEPREFIX=~/wine.hs WINEARCH=win32 wine wineboot
WINEPREFIX=~/wine.hs winetricks dotnet472
WINEPREFIX=~/wine.hs winetricks corefonts
WINEPREFIX=~/wine.hs wine ~/Downloads/HS/HDT-Installer_2020-05-15.exe
and the installer just crashes. backtrace file about it attached.

Trace of Fallout NV (fdelente)
Hello,
I'm on Fedora 26 64 bits, with wine staging 2.15 in a 32-bit prefix, I
installed Fallout New Vegas through Steam but it doesn't start: the launcher
shows up, I click play, I have the splash screen (the game is in windowed mode)
showing the copyrights text but it closes and Fallout NV stops here. I have
installed d3dx9 and quartz with winetricks though, as suggested on d3dx9, and
have plenty of other games working correctly (Dark Souls I, II and II Scholar,
Bioshock 2, Dishonored, Borderlands...)
A trace with WINEDEBUG=+d3d doesn't show any error, I only have fixmes for
gstreamer:
fixme:gstreamer:unknown_type Could not find a filter for caps:
application/x-id3
I installed all i686 versions of the gstreamer plugins, I tried disabling the
gstreamer library in winecfg, but no luck, the game won't start.
I attach the log I have obtained in the console.

Sometimes, not always, the game crashes when returning to the title screen
(either via the in-game quit option, or by backing out after selecting 'New
Game', which sometimes seems to trigger the crash more often-like).
The game has been also seen to crash every time when entering the title screen,
after it had crashed once before, but this was 'fixed' by making sure the Wine
processes were terminated ('wineserver -k' for example), although that may have
been experienced in a not-so-clean Wine prefix.
Both bug 38490 and bug 43398 seem different enough (and somewhat abandoned) for
this to be a separate issue (though they are very similar; perhaps the root
cause is not very different).

After upgrade to 5.9 (5.7 worked) the mouse in Fallout New Vegas no longer
works properly. Sensitivity increases greatly and it appears that each axis is
inverted. Moving the mouse on the launching screen and in game is very
difficult, it stutters, jumps around and changes direction randomly. The game
functionality itself or the menus are not affected and work correctly with
enough patience. Console output does not include any input-related errors.

When a graph transitions from pause to run with a VMR9 video window present
(which has been owned by another window with put_Owner) the Wine window
implementing VMR9 is incorrectly given focus. This will steal focus from an
active window in a different process, and because the actual owner wasn't
active, all focus is lost within the Wine subsystem.
I.E. Task bar says original app is focused, but that window title has gone
grey, the VRM9 window title goes blue but nothing actually has focus.
Note, if the graph is run when the app owning the VMR9 is focused, everything
works as normal including the Message-Drain API in VMR9, although focus is
still lost from the app owner window. This possibly obscures this bug.
Note also, I think "other things" like altering mouse pointer visibility with
mouse-move messages also cause the Wine window implementing VMR9 to gain focus,
so simply moving the mouse over video output can steal focus from a different
active application within Wine.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty). I have installed Wine 1.1.26 and IrfanView

example, and change its Preferences.
I have set IrfanView to be the default program for .wav files by right-clicking
on a .wav file and selecting Properties > Open With > IrfanView. When I
double-click on a .wav, I get this error message:
"Error: Windows can't play this file! Windows error text: Invalid MCI device
ID. Use the ID returned when opening the MCI device.. You can try to install
additional video/audio codecs from this site: www.fourcc.org/indexcod.htm or
try the DirectShow option in Properties->Video."
The DirectShow option does not fix the problem. After I click OK on this error
message, it repeats. I click OK again. This happens a total of four times. Then
IrfanView plays the audio file, with a little window that says "No Device." If
I click the arrow in IrfanView, to move on to the next audio file, the same
routine repeats.

The problem doesn't occur with plain Wine, because the incorrect commit from
bug 33479 somehow magically "works around" this regression. I am opening this
bug anyway because sooner or later a proper fix will get upstream.
To reproduce this issue, you have to revert
76bbf106a28c4caa82873e8450bde7d4adc765bf, or alternatively apply the staging
fix for bug 33479. See here for more details
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33479#c45 .
When starting Settlers 3 as fullscreen, before the bad commit was introduced
the mouse cursor appears and works properly on the start screen and in the
menu. After the bad commit the mouse cursor doesn't show up anymore. This makes
it impossible to enter the game.
Patch http://source.winehq.org/patches/data/108577 does not help in this case,
and the issue is still present in latest upstream Wine
(wine-1.7.36-83-gf75d1b0).
Desktop environment: XFCE 4.1

I've submitted a test case for this widl bug:
https://source.winehq.org/patches/data/186613
In order to see the bug one needs to remove #ifdef'ed code in server.idl.
Without '#if 0' widl generates broken format strings and the tests crash
under Windows and Wine.
As far as I can see widl generates incorrect memory offsets for embedded
structure fields with size_is() attribute, NdrSimpleStructBufferSize()
calculates wrong size, and later calls in the client/server stubs lead to
memory corruption.

In 4.15 and later it tries to start but hits some exception and pops an error
dialog, and then wine's error dialog. (next attachment)

Bug #: 29576
Summary: ImgBurn fails to get duration of FLAC files via
DC-Bass Source
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.36
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://download.imgburn.com/SetupImgBurn_2.5.6.0.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: RandomAccountName(a)mail.com
Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 38308
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=38308
Terminal output
ImgBurn supports burning audio CDs from a few types of audio files out of the
box, but additional formats, including FLAC, can be supported by installing
DirectShow filers. DC-Bass Source provides support for various codecs,
including FLAC:
http://www.dsp-worx.de/?n=15
Unfortunately, this doesn't actually work with Wine; trying to add a FLAC file
to the compilation after installing DC-Bass Source produces an error:
GetDuration failed!
File Name: <file path>
Reason: Error: 0x80004001
The file is added to the list of tracks anyway, but attempting to create a CUE
sheet for burning will fail with the same message until the offending file(s)
are removed. Using native qedit.dll makes that error go away, and a CUE sheet
is created successfully.
AAC files fail with the same error initially, but native qedit only changes the
error code for those files...
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install ImgBurn
2. Download and extract DC-Bass Source:
http://download.dsp-worx.de/?f=DCBassSource_v1.30_Binary.zip
3. From the DC-Bass Source directory, run register.bat
4. Start ImgBurn and go to tools -> create CUE file
5. Try to add a FLAC file

Wine sometimes fail to start in qemu_aarch64 + ubuntu16.04 because of assertion
fail in alloc_pages_vprot function.
It looks like it's related to address space limit being set incorrectly in
virtual_init:
#ifdef _WIN64
address_space_limit = (void *)(((1UL << 47) - 1) & ~page_mask);
After changing it to:
address_space_limit = (void*)(((1UL << 48) - 1) & ~page_mask);
wine starts successfully. According to arm8 documentation 48-bit virtual memory
addressing is used.

Proper DLL refcounting was implemented for quartz in

part of Wine 5.4. Based on the backtraces I think we can safely conclude that
this bug is due to missing DLL refcounting and is fixed now.

WIne log with native dsound (and other directmusic dlls as builtin)
Hi again
Imperium GBR need the directmusic components to be able to play in-game
(menu,game) audio (music, voices, UI effects). However the audio associated
with the videos is reproduced correctly with all builtin.
To be able to play in game sound the game need these dlls setted to
native:dsound,dmime,dmsynth,dmusic,dswave
However when setting dsound as native the audio of the videos (as the intro
video) is not played anymore (the video component of the video is still played
perfectly).
To experience this issue you need to set as native dsound.dll only.
If I also activate native quartz with native dsound the audio in videos is
reproduced correctly, but the game will terminate before entering the main menu

Created an attachment (id=33725)

Tiny test program which demonstrates the problem (exe and C++ source)
The WINE implementation of GetKeyState does not follow the spec regarding
"toggle keys" such as caps lock, num lock and scroll lock.
The documentation states: (about the return value) "If the low-order bit is 1,
the key is toggled. A key, such as the CAPS LOCK key, is toggled if it is
turned on. The key is off and untoggled if the low-order bit is 0. A toggle
key's indicator light (if any) on the keyboard will be on when the key is
toggled, and off when the key is untoggled."
Instead, what WINE appears to do, is flip the low-order bit when a toggle-key
is "un-toggled" (on=>off). When it is toggled (off=>on), the low order bit
remains unaffected. This is obviously completely incorrect.
I have attached a demo app (zip file with exe with C++ source code) which shows
the problem. When run on windows, it displays "CAPS ON" or "CAPS OFF" in sync
with the little light on the keyboard. When run on WINE it does not stay in
sync.
Tested on 1.2.2 and 1.3.16 on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat running in
VirtualBox, host OS is Win7.

When trying to run Red Faction: Guerrilla on Wine, the introduction credits
audio constantly loops the most recent second over the current audio, making it
sound really glitchy. When it gets to the loading screen everything is fine
again, and it loads the main menu. The menu works fine at full speed for less
than half a second, then my framerate tanks to about 1-2 FPS. After a few
seconds of this (the game works fine, it's just incredibly laggy) the window
locks up entirely. I can't do anything after that except mash ctrl+alt+delete
until I log off. I have used apt-get purge as well as apt-get uninstall and
then re-installing multiple times, and it doesn't help. (I launch it using
"wine /directory/Steam.exe -no-dwrite")

Summary: Unity: SystemInfo.deviceUniqueIdentifier always the
same under Wine
Product: Wine
Version: 5.8

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wmi&wbemprox
Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
Reporter: jamiesonc2(a)gmail.com
Distribution: Ubuntu
Unity's SystemInfo.deviceUniqueIdentifier always returns the same value under
Wine, because the underlying data used to populate the property are hardcoded
in Wine. Applications that depend on SystemInfo.deviceUniqueIdentifier being
unique between different systems may behave unexpectedly, including identity
collisions in cloud services clients.
This behavior was observed in the Syrinscape Online (beta) application, which
relies on SystemInfo.deviceUniqueIdentifier to link desktop apps with online
accounts. Wine users are getting linked with other Wine users' online accounts
because all of the Syrinscape Online clients appear to be running on the same
device.
https://www.syrinscape.com/online/
See this Syrinscape support forum thread where the issue was discussed:
https://forum.syrinscape.com/t/who-is-stuart-kehoe/8850
Details about Unity's SystemInfo.deviceUniqueIdentifier:
https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/SystemInfo-deviceUniqueIdentifier.…
The following data is retrieved from wbemprox to generate a UID:
Win32_BaseBoard::SerialNumber
Win32_BIOS::SerialNumber
Win32_Processor::UniqueId
Win32_DiskDrive::SerialNumber
Win32_OperatingSystem::SerialNumber
As of Wine 5.8, these values are hardcoded. From the latest wbemprox/builtin.c
at the time of this writing:
https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/93758fc3ef16eed6cf1639aa6c31f6a…
Line 1103: Baseboard serial number = L"None"
Line 1295: BIOS serial number = L"0"
Line 2117: DiskDrive serial number = L"WINEHDISK"
Line 3216: Processor unique ID = NULL
Line 3417: OS serial number = L"12345-OEM-1234567-12345"
As a consequence of the above, the value of Unity's
SystemInfo.deviceUniqueIdentifier is always:
12a9126b14ff9b78b28d00f78e2bff20a224611b
PROPOSED:
If it is impractical to obtain actual serial numbers/IDs for the aforementioned
components, consider populating the values in a way that facilitates more
convenient user customization to workaround application issues.
1. Consider sourcing the values from specially designated registry keys,
populated during new WINE_PREFIX setup.
2. Consider populating said registry keys with random values rather than fixed
values. This will obviate the need for users to do any manual workarounds. (Not
sure if it would break other things, but philosophically, it's not unreasonable
to treat every WINE_PREFIX as though it's a whole new system build.)

Patch for upcoming Wine 5.8
We Happy Few allocates an unusually large number of individual virtual memory
views (17k views allocated once the menu is reached), which then makes the
virtual memory allocation slower because of the large rbtree traversal.
Using a dedicated structure to track free memory ranges instead of the view
rbtree traversal leads to a huge FPS increase (tested at +20% when CPU bound)
once in game.

I'm having this problem in a couple of older games (Secret Files 1-2, Ufo:
Extraterrestrials, Fahrenheit).
When in-game anti-aliasing is enabled in those games, the mouse pointer leaves
a trail across the screen and the screen stops refreshing, making the games
unusable.
According to my testing this was introduced by
https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/7ec7d812f1d5eabef12ac97d46fbb…
Reverting the commit on current HEAD fixes the problem.
Plain terminal output doesn't show anything related.
To reproduce the problem in Fahrenheit demo:
Start the game, create a new profile, select <Options>, <Visual>, set <Graphic
Level> to custom.
Click <Advanced Graphic Options> and enable anti-aliasing. Click on <Back>
button to apply the changes. As you move the mouse and the cursor hits the
border of the screen, the problem appears.

Hello folks,
Garmin BaseCamp 4.1.2 runs pretty good with MS .NET Framework 3.5 installed.
There are (albeit rare) cases of startup failures when Wine loader fails to map
builtin RichEd20.dll to its preferred load base address because it is already
taken by another module.
RichEd20 needs a load address in lower 2 GiB virtual address space.
See bug 22551 "Multiple .NET apps fail to load riched20.dll into memory (.NET
Framework/Windows Forms wants riched20.dll loaded into lower 2GiB address space

Maybe Wine loader could try to map dlls which have requirements of preferred

As far as i get it, api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l2-1-0.dll is not a real dll
(right). I`ll attach patch that adds (a "real" one)it anyway hereafter; is that
for the moment the right way to go? Anyone advise on this??
Unfortunately I do not have this game, however i was able to reproduce similar
problem, albeit in a strange way
Google said djay Pro (trial) also uses this, but that has appx extension.....
However, if you unzip the appx (7z x) it extracts an exe, djayPro.exe.
I guess this is not the way this app should be run, but you get same problem:

and intros were successful for skipping by clicking left click. However, after
4 menu buttons appear, I cannot click anything, even Quit button (although I
can quit the game by escape).

My draft implementation has exactly the features Denuvo needed to start, not a
bit more nor less. My plan is to prepare for upstream those bits of WSK
functionality, with a possible extension of maybe just a bit more sane WSK
client dispatch callbacks handling.

Hi, a user tested some portable apps on forum:
https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33957
The app throws up an error window, and fails to start further.
+relay log shows what is below***.
When you manually create the key HKCU/Control Panel\\Desktop\
\WindowMetrics\AppliedDPI (with value 0x60i did) the error is gone and the app
starts for me. I guess this value should not be hardcoded though. Hopefully
someone knows how to retrieve that (and set that) value in correct way and make
a patch for it

Created attachment 55912
--> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=55912
This is the entire output that Wine spit out after erroring.
I'm attempting to run Ragnarok Online on Linux Mint 18, Mate, 32-bit. Here's
the app's page:
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=928
I've already exhausted everything in the page, so it's most likely not an
existing bug or a problem others have run into. I got the game to work on the
same system using Wine 1.6, which was in my official repository, but I hesitate
to call this a regression because a tester got the game to work with Wine
version 1.9.18, which is very close to mine.
If it IS a regression, doing regression testing is beyond my abilities, but
based on the latest test results, we can narrow the problem down to somewhere
between the tester's version of Wine (1.9.18), which the tester reported as
platinum, and my version of Wine, which is 1.9.21.
I'm using Wine HQ's official development branch, version 1.9.21.
To reproduce the problem, just:
1. Run the RO installer
2. Run "Ragnarok Online" shortcut on desktop
Here's the exact installer I used:
File name: Ragnarok_Installer-09272013.exe
MD5: 81D59BEE0621A858428E1CF76843BCF7
SHA1: A2795AA047F29A2547365AC7D4246F7B8F133899
However, I don't think the installer you use matters too much because the bug
I'm reporting happens after the game itself is installed.
If you do have my exact installer, however, the installer will hang at "Status:
Moving files". To work around the error, follow Richard Graham's comment here:
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=928
Specifically, first extract the real installer from the .exe file:
$ wine Ragnarok_Installer-09272013.exe /extract "$(winepath -w "$(pwd)")"
Then run the installer itself:
$ wine msiexec /i Ragnarok_Installer.msi
After the installer finishes, run the "Ragnarok Online" shortcut from the
desktop. The patcher will open and it will start downloading updates, but after
less than 30 seconds, you'll get this error:
------------------------------
Window title: Program Error
The program Ragnarok.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience.
This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine. You may
want to check the Application Database for tips about running this application.
------------------------------
I saved and attached the program error details, including the backtrace. Please
forgive any mistakes/omissions; I'm new to Wine HQ bug reporting. Let me know
if there's anything else I can do to help.

Summary: Protection c0000005 with MFC CPropertySheet::DoModal

Protections by CPropertySheet::DoModal
Applications using the MFC CPropertySheet::DoModal run into c0000005
protections every time the mouse moves over the app. Frequent protections are
created every time the mouse moves. For complex CPropertySheet dialogs an app
freezes.
I used the example from
https://www.codeguru.com/cpp/controls/propertysheet/article.php/c605/Update…
(and just added AfxMessageBox("Start Program"); before DoModal to see in the
log file when the protections start)
Please find attached
- The codeguru example created with VS2010 as x64 app: NewPropertySheet.exe
- The log file Wine_LOG.txt created by the command
WINEDEBUG=+seh wine64 NewPropertySheet.exe >& Wine_LOG.txt
This example app does not freeze but complex apps with CPropertySheet::DoModal
do in particular on Mac PCs.

revert the faulty commit
This bug has been spotted on version 1.15 of Torchlight, as sold on gog.com.
It has been reproduced reliably on a Debian Sid and an Arch Linux.
The symptoms are:
- the game takes a long time to launch
- switching between characters in the menu takes several seconds
- transition between zones in game takes much longer than it should
The issue is present starting with WINE 4.5, and is still present in latest
release (5.3) and current master (wine-5.3-181-geb63713f60).
WINE 4.4 is the latest non-affected release.
I did a bisect and identified the following commit as the faulty one:
f48ea297268e832c93a22fb5b92f73620c717280
"msvcrt: Use _strnicmp instead of strncasecmp."
The attached patch reverts this commit, it applies cleanly on both 5.3 and
current master, and restore normal loading times in the game.
You can see more information about this issue in the original bug report in the
issues tracker of ./play.it:

The following test program produces the expected result ("testdir\testfile") on
Windows, but fails on Wine:
#include <io.h>
#include <direct.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <sys/stat.h>
#include <stdio.h>
int main(void)
{
char buf[64];
_mkdir("testdir");
_close(_creat("testdir\\testfile", _S_IREAD | _S_IWRITE));
_putenv("TESTVAR=\"testdir\"");
_searchenv("testfile", "TESTVAR", buf);
printf("Result: %s\n", buf);
}
The cause seems to be that Wine doesn't seem to implement the quoting syntax in
the searchenv function family.
The problem was noticed when MS link.exe invocation failed on Wine but not
Windows, with identical environment / inputs. Such environment variables can
occur when building search paths for linker libraries (%LIB%), as seen here:

The root cause is that the OVERLAPPED struct does not have Offset and

In this case, the target file is the process_entry's control_pipe. MSDN
specifies the Offset and OffsetHigh members must be zero when writing to a file
that does not support seeking

Hello folks,
splitting this issue off from various Steam related bug reports for reference.
Many Steam games require DirectX runtime, usually stated in game folder
'installscript.vdf'.
Example VDF:

For various games the DirectX runtime install fails, resulting in repeated
install attempt on startup of the game.

--- snip ---
In many cases it's 'xinput1_3.dll'.
This kind of error is also encountered on Windows (lots of reports).
A reboot in between starts will fix it because the locked dll will be replaced
on next Windows startup.
There are multiple ways to handle this problem (apart from adding support for
SP_COPY_IN_USE_NEEDS_REBOOT to Wine itself):
1) install DX runtime without starting Steam in the Steam WINEPREFIX (make sure
you don't auto-run Steam services)
-> app folder -> 'installers' -> 'DirectX'
--- snip ---
$ wine DXSETUP.exe /silent
--- snip ---
2) remove the dll from 'system32' folder (or 'SysWOW64' on 64-bit prefix) prior
running Steam in the prefix
3) fake successful installation by adding registry key (see '17470_install.vdf'
where the registry key is located -> 'DirectX' DWORD:1)

Far Manager is usable under Wine (5.3) after bug 44253 is resolved but it
freezes every time when restoring from minimized to maximized window. It does
not freeze if restoring to normal floating (non-maximized) window. Tested on
KDE Plasma/Debian Buster. It happens with both 32bit and 64bit Far.
It might be related to bug 48203 or bug 48204 but that is uncertain.

Wine command line output
I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Wine 5.0 from the official WineHQ repository.
The Wine prefix is clean.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Get the portable version of WinSCP (currently
https://winscp.net/download/WinSCP-5.15.9-Portable.zip).
2. Extract it, execute WinSCP.exe and connect to a SFTP server.
3. In the remote server window try to drag & drop a remote sample file (like
/tmp/test.txt) into a remote folder (like /tmp/testdir).
4. The Move path dialogue appears flickering in an indefinite loop until WinSCP
crashes.
I've been in contact with the WinSCP developer Martin Přikryl about this issue.
We've done quite extensive testing with various debug builds and he came to the
conclusion, that Wine creates an infinite drag & drop loop after releasing the
mouse button causing WinSCP to crash. This behaviour does not happen on native
Windows.
Attached is the command line output of wine.

When building for 64-bit with MinGW or MSVC,
sizeof(DISPLAYCONFIG_VIDEO_OUTPUT_TECHNOLOGY)=4.
But when building against Wine headers,
sizeof(DISPLAYCONFIG_VIDEO_OUTPUT_TECHNOLOGY)=8.
It seems that when gcc/clang finds constants too large to be represented by a
signed int, like 'DISPLAYCONFIG_OUTPUT_TECHNOLOGY_INTERNAL = 0x80000000', it
increases the enum size to match, but MSVC doesn't.
This was tracked a few years ago in MinGW bug #456
<https://sourceforge.net/p/mingw-w64/bugs/456/> and fixed by casting the
constants to int:
<https://sourceforge.net/p/mingw-w64/mingw-w64/ci/5d61ecd2d087a3a1bdaa9db902…>
tomConstants in tom.h and RecordCreateOptionsEnum in adoint_backcompat.h were
also fixed in the same commit, and I can confirm those are also the wrong size
in Wine's headers. There may be other enums that need to be fixed though.

Wine versions: staging 5.0-rc6 and later
OS: Ubuntu Linux 18.04
Symptoms:
In the game the cursor will get stuck at one point on the screen if I move the
mouse quick enough on low enough fps. It is very noticeable below 10 fps. This
is a regression from Wine 5.0-rc5 and earlier, where the cursor moved normally.
How to reproduce:
1. Get Arma Cold War Assault.
2. Limit the fps to 10 in some way or use a slow computer.
- I could reproduce this issue on a powerful computer using this fps
limiter: https://github.com/ThirteenAG/d3d8-wrapper/releases Set FPSLimit = 10
in d3d8.ini and start the game with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b".
3. Start the game.
4. Move your mouse fast in the main menu.
5. You should see the cursor stuck at one point.

Bug #20695 got closed with wine-1.9.7.
It really fixes the problem when opening two existing files.
(e.g. by menu File - Open)
But if one opens just a new empty file comparison and pastes
the two file contents there the scrollbars do not work.
(e.g. by menu File - New)
(Even without pasting the scrollbars should be moveable a little bit.)
This started like the original bug between 1.1.16-pol and 1.1.17-pol
Version 1.9.7-pol shows also the problem as does 2.0-rc2-winehq.
Can this someone confirm?

Home Designer message log when run on Wine
I am attempting to run Home Designer Suite version 21.3.1.1x64 on Wine.
Immediately after starting it and supplying a valid product key, I get a
popup reporting:
c:\p4sync\dev\releases\21\chief\cacommon\error\artexception.cpp(146): Error
#272000009
"A serious error occurred (SEH). Please contact Chief Architect Technical
Support with steps to reproduce.
"
Note that the program continues to run, and I can shut it down normally.
This page:
https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00802/troubleshooting-exc…
says I should ensure my system meets minimum requirements and is fully up to
date. E.g. they want a graphics card with 1 GB memory and support for OpenGL
>= 3.3, which I have.
Home Designer writes a report of its execution, and there I found that it
reports the characteristics that it probed for the system it is running on.
Here I found that it probed "OpenGL VRam: 0" and "OpenGL GPU Count: 0". I've
attached this log as 'wine-Message Log.txt'.
When I run that same Home Designer binary on an up-to-date Windows 10 system,
it starts up without reporting a serious error, and its execution log shows
non-zero values for "OpenGL VRam" and "OpenGL GPU Count". I've attached this
log as 'real-Windows10-Message Log.txt'.
The terminal output from Wine is attached as 'run.log'.

CallProcEx32W16 takes a 'nrofargs' argument which may have the hight bit set by
the caller (CPEX_DEST_CDECL). Internally the function processes nrofargs in a
for loop but does not clear the high bit before looping.
This line (2475):
for (i=0;i<nrofargs;i++)
This needs to be changed to support correct argument counting to:
for (i=0;i<(nrofargs & ~CPEX_DEST_CDECL);i++)
Otherwise this routine crashes when called with CPEX_DEST_CDECL set.

When attempting to launch Cadence Allegro Professional* on Wine 5.0 staging,
the application loads and checks out the network license, but immediately
generates an internal fault and pops up a dialog to that effect. Dismissing
the dialog box exits the application (thankfully it returns the network license
cleanly at that point, otherwise debugging would be quite miserable).
This behavior was observed on all tested Wine versions starting with 3.0. 4.1
and 4.12 were also tested with the same results, as was both the OpenGL and
non-OpenGL version of the Allegro software.
* We hold a current network license for this package, and are looking to
migrate away from effectively airgapped (isolated license-only network) XP
systems for this software. My understanding is that the licensed version,
versus the trial / standalone read-only version, has received no testing up
until this point on Wine.

wine-staging 5.9 introduces a regression, which causes World of Warcraft 3.3.5a
to malfunction.
Issues:
Camera manipulation via right button press or middle button press is
stutteting, moving randomly every 1 second or so. Camera moving is unusable.
Problem is fixed instantly by downgrading wine-staging to 5.8

With Wine 5.9 there is a regression that results in erratic mouse behavior in
World of Warcraft: BfA. When you hold down both mouse buttons, your character
starts moving and you can use your mouse to change direction where you are
moving in. So far so good. However, if you try to run in circles by constantly
moving your mouse to the side, the camera will randomly jump to a random
direction as if mouse sensitivity went way up for a split second. I've tried a
different mouse, but the issue persists. Downgrading back to 5.8 instantly
fixed the issue.
OS: Arch Linux
Kernel Version: 5.6.14
Wine: Wine-staging 5.9

Hello everyone,
Sorry for my poor English first, I'm using plasma desktop 5.18.0-3 on
Archlinux.
I tried to run windows program with wine-staging 5.2-1, everything works fine
except the system tray.
When I putting my mouse hover on the system tray icon, nothing responds. A
floating window is supposed to show up.
Killed xembedsniproxy using Wine System Tray it works fine.
For example, Wechat(IM, Tencent Holdings Ltd., https://www.wechat.com/en/)
<b>Section I</b>
[img1]
No message, hover on the icon, text `Wechat`
[img2]
<b>Section II</b>
[img3]
The most important, when having new messages, the notification window(dialog
preview) couldn't show up.
[img4]
This also happened on QQ and TIM(IM, Simplified Chinese Only, Tencent Holdings
Ltd.)
I've no idea about whether other programs have such problem.

I walked through the steps using Sergey's guideline:
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=33495&iTestin…
I even tried black magic, but doesn't helped.
Terminal output attached:

--- quote ---
Cycle counter
All ARMv8 CPUs are required to support a cycle counter register. This is a
64-bit register that Windows configures
to be readable at any exception level (including user mode). It can be accessed
via the special PMCCNTR_EL0
register, using the MSR opcode in assembly code, or the _ReadStatusReg
intrinsic in C/C++ code.
Note that the cycle counter here is a true cycle counter, not a wall clock, and
thus the counting frequency
will vary with the processor frequency. If you feel you must know the frequency
of the cycle counter,
you should not be using the cycle counter. Instead, you want to measure wall
clock time, for which you
should use QueryPerformanceCounter.
--- quote ---
Defined as 'ReadTimeStampCounter()' in Windows 10 SDK header 'winnt.h'.
Current QEMU for ARM64 supports it (if not run under real hardware):
https://github.com/qemu/qemu/blob/master/target/arm/helper.c#L1410
--- snip ---
#ifndef CONFIG_USER_ONLY
...
{ .name = "PMCCNTR_EL0", .state = ARM_CP_STATE_AA64,
.opc0 = 3, .opc1 = 3, .crn = 9, .crm = 13, .opc2 = 0,
.access = PL0_RW, .accessfn = pmreg_access_ccntr,
.type = ARM_CP_IO,
.readfn = pmccntr_read, .writefn = pmccntr_write, },
#endif
--- snip ---
The relevant piece of Linux kernel code:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/60792ad349f3c6dc5735aafefe5dc9121c…
--- quote ---
arm64: kernel: enforce pmuserenr_el0 initialization and restore
The pmuserenr_el0 register value is architecturally UNKNOWN on reset.
Current kernel code resets that register value iff the core pmu device is
correctly probed in the kernel. On platforms with missing DT pmu nodes (or
disabled perf events in the kernel), the pmu is not probed, therefore the
pmuserenr_el0 register is not reset in the kernel, which means that its
value retains the reset value that is architecturally UNKNOWN (system
may run with eg pmuserenr_el0 == 0x1, which means that PMU counters access
is available at EL0, which must be disallowed).
This patch adds code that resets pmuserenr_el0 on cold boot and restores
it on core resume from shutdown, so that the pmuserenr_el0 setup is
always enforced in the kernel.
--- quote ---
Since the Linux kernel maintainers disallow PMU counter access in EL0 by
default, one has to patch the Linux kernel or use a helper kernel module.
Windows 10 ARM64 likely has PMU counter access in EL0 enabled by default.
There were some attempts in the past, but they never made it in.
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/5217341/https://github.com/zhiyisun/enable_arm_pmu/tree/dev
Anyway, nothing to fix in Wine here. Upstream (if at all).

I read https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1201#c34, but I don't have the
game; Instead, I'm using the demo link in the bug description, and that's
unfortunately the only exe I can find. Is there a link to the correct
executables somewhere else? I was looking for old bugs with old replies, and
the last comment referred to Wine 1.9.13, so I wanted to see if I could help
with this old bug. Thanks for your hard work, though!

Did you read comment 34?
Anyway bug still occurs with wine-5.9. I sent many times cleaned up patches
from Wine-staging to wine-devel. But no answers, no news....
