Summary: wine crashes linux completly with quake2
Product: Wine
Version: 20040309
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-debug
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: spamhans(a)yahoo.de
Debian unstable/sid
Linux 2.6.5-1-k7 precompiled
KDE 3.2.2
ALSA 1.0.4rc2 with VIA 8266/A/7 on board sound
AthlonXP 1800+ 256MB DDR RAM
nvidia module 1.0.5336-6 with GeForce 2 GTS 64MB DDR
XFree86 Version 4.3.0.1 (Debian 4.3.0-7 20040318043201)
1024x768@85Hz 81dpi
I changed to the quake2 dir and hit "wine quake2.exe" (only for testing wine,
the linux quake2 works fine for me)
Then I minimized wineq2 and browsed the web with Firefox.
10 Minutes or so later a a window poped up:
Exeption raised
Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x5dd029ec at adress 0x404fde43.
The mouse stops...
no ctrl+alt+f1 no ctrl+alt+backspace no ctrl+alt+del
I had to push the reset button.
Next time I will start with "wine --debugmsg -- quake2.exe" to provide more
informations.
btw I get
fixme:dsound:IDirectSoundImpl_SetCooperativeLevel level=DSSCL_EXCLUSIVE not
fully supported
err:wave:wodOpen Rate doesn't match (requested 22050 Hz, got 48000 Hz)
err:wave:wodOpen Rate doesn't match (requested 96000 Hz, got 48000 Hz)
and the ingame sound plays much to fast. How to fix that in alsa?
With OSS it works just fine.
regards phobos

Running Slackware 9.1 with kernel 2.6.0 (patched Xfree 4.3 and kernel for use
with Compaq Presario 2100 laptop) i am attempting to run the Ragnarok.exe
(http://iro.ragnarokonline.com) with minimal success. The program loads but
there is a constant flickering across the screen making the game unplayable. The
fps while in window mode are decent. When the program is run in full screen
mode, the flicker is gone, but the fps have now slown to a crawl. Ive tried this
on both the cvs version and the latest 20040408 release. both were compiled with
gcc 3.2.3. I have a 300+ MB debug msg from the WINEDEBUG=+relay Ragnarok.exe.

Status: With wine-20040408-1 it still shows the same behaviour. The splash comes
up and an empty window behind it and then - well nothing (visually) happens, not
even a re-draw of the grey background.
Is there anything I can do to help fixing the bug?

I am at the limit of what I can do for you here. I think it is time to ask for
help on wine-devel(a)winehq.org. Be sure to provide a link to this bug. Hopefully
someone there is able make some sense of it.

Well, I tried to produce a trace, but wine doesn't crash when run with --debugmsg +relay.
It does, however, put these fixme's in the log:
fixme:bitmap:CreateCompatibleBitmap got bad width 0 or height 1075782048, please
look for reason
fixme:bitmap:CreateCompatibleBitmap got bad width 0 or height 1075782048, please

look for reason
fixme:bitmap:CreateCompatibleBitmap got bad width 0 or height 1075782048, please
look for reason
When run without --debugmsg +relay, wine does crash, and the fixme's generated are:
fixme:bitmap:CreateCompatibleBitmap got bad width 1076953140 or height 64, please
look for reason
fixme:bitmap:CreateCompatibleBitmap got bad width 1076953140 or height 64, please

fixme:bitmap:CreateCompatibleBitmap got bad width 1082579840 or height
1075569213, please look for reason
fixme:bitmap:CreateCompatibleBitmap got bad width 1082579840 or height
1075569213, please look for reason
Since the values shown for the height/width of the bitmap are different when running the
EXACT same scenario, it further leads me down the road toward a bad parameter pass...
What should be my next step? I could try playing with the gdi32.spec file, but I REALLY
have *NO* idea what I'm doing there... (I could try just replacing the apparently erroneous
"long"s with "int"s, leaving everything else alone, I guess...)

FWIW, dlls/gdi/gdi32.spec also has
@ stdcall CreateCompatibleBitmap(long long long)
@ stdcall CreateDiscardableBitmap(long long long)
which doesn't match MSDN in the same way CreateBitmap mis-matches... (I didn't check
other function parameters. Might a vi-equivalent "s/int/long/g" been used to convert this
from gdi16.spec to gdi32.spec??)
HTH,
Carl

Summary: Wine incompatible with ALSA 1.04 dmix plugin
Product: Wine
Version: 20040408
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: LogicDonut(a)msn.com
Just as a note, it works fine if dmix is not enabled.
Tried oss, no sound, I won't try artsd because it causes instability with my
machine, and I do not have the other sound systems.
Got a work around?
Right now i got
2 /etc/asound.conf: /etc/asound.dmix, /etc/asound.nodmix, /etc/asound.conf
being a symlink between them. I'd prefer not to have to keep switching between
them using a shell script, but as of now that is what I'm doing.

BTW, wine crashes HARD with this error, so it never gets into winedbg. I won't be able to
provide a backtrace :-(...

Tony,
I'd be happy to provide the trace. A few questions, tho: (1) Would you like more than
--debugmsg +relay? (Note, +snoop doesn't work...), (2) should I attach the ENTIRE trace,
or should a few hundred lines do?, and (2) is there any particular version (cvs date) you'd
like me to use?
