To be more specific, Wine should move to the new XEMBED based systray protocol
developed at freedesktop.org - kde will be moving to this new protocol shortly
also (kde 3.1 may already implement it, not sure).
I've been pondering doing this for a while, but since I have other priorities I
won't be starting until it drifts to the top of my todo list or some funding is
available. It's not a huge amount of work but it basically involves rewriting
the system tray code, so it's not a 2 minute hack job either.
This should probably be done for 0.9 as it's a highly user-visible problem and
will only get more visible as time goes on and the legacy systray protocol is
abandoned.

Summary: Wine should use gnome 2.2 systray applet if available
Product: Wine
Version: 20030219
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-gui
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.com
ReportedBy: bugzilla(a)simguy.net
Gnome 2.2 has added a system tray applet which some applications are now
beginning to handle. In Gnome, under wine, I get little "wine systray" window.
Perhaps wine could be made to use this applet to place its icon, when the tray
applet is available?
I believe wine already supports this technique under KDE.

This is an excelent time for you to switch to CVS since the best way to get this
fixed is to do some regression testing via CVS. As a bonus you can be bleading
edge up to date as you want.

This has a download page at

Perhaps someone would like to do the regression testing for you for you. What
was the last version of wine that ran this?
