This indeed fixes the issue for me, at an FPS cost of ~10% -- which is totally acceptable in my case. The game still seems to run more smoothly compared to running it with -nod3d9ex.
My apologies, I gotta take this back... in greater clashes with lots of effects my FPS drop to about ~15 (which is about -60%). So I guess either - playing with -nod3d9ex and accepting lag spikes when new stuff gets loaded, or - playing without -nod3d9ex but having broken tooltips/nameplates are still the ways to go until we got threaded occlusion queries.
Btw, I'm just curious: Are there any plans on this?
