that is the right place, not sure why that doesn't work - maybe delta is still
too close to 0?

for the workaround, try either:

-    if (t < 0.0f || t > 1.0f)
+    if (isnan(t) || t < 0.0f || t > 1.0f)
         return TRUE;

or:

+   if (isnan(t)) { t = 0.0f; }
    if (t < 0.0f || t > 1.0f)
         return TRUE;
